Our Story
How did Guinness World Records begin? How long have we been around? How many adjudicators are there? Here you can find out all about our origins and what the brand does today.
Origins Story
The idea came about in the early 1950’s when Sir Hugh Beaver (1890—1967), Managing Director of the Guinness Brewery, attended a shooting party in County Wexford. There, he and his hosts argued about the fastest game bird* in Europe and failed to find an answer in any reference book.
In 1954, recalling his shooting party argument, Sir Hugh had the idea for a Guinness promotion based on the idea of settling pub arguments and invited the twins Norris (1925—2004) and Ross McWhirter (1925—75) who were fact-finding researchers from Fleet Street to compile a book of facts and figures.
Guinness Superlatives was incorporated on 30 November and the office opened in two rooms in a converted gymnasium on the top floor of Ludgate House, 107 Fleet Street.
After an initial research phase, work began on writing the book, which took 13 and a half 90-hour weeks, including weekends and bank holidays. Little did the McWhirters know that taking shape was a book that would go on to become an all-time best seller and one of the most recognized and trusted brands in the world…

Frequently asked questions
Here you can find answers to frequently asked questions about record-breaking and the Guinness World Records applications process, as well for our website and other products
Record breaking and applications
Visit our How to collect and submit evidence to get an idea of the evidence you need to provide as part of your record attempt.
All evidence must be submitted online. You can upload your evidence by logging into your account. Please do not send evidence to Guinness World Records by post as all file types are accepted online.
After this, our expert Records Management Team will assess your evidence. If your attempt is verified as successful, you will be eligible for one complimentary Official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ Record-Holder Certificate to confirm your record-holder status!
Unfortunately we are unable to respond to letters, so please make an application online or check our contact page.
Please do not send us evidence before submitting an application and receiving your guidelines, as we will not be able to process it.
Guinness World Records has an expertly trained Records Management Team who undertake substantial research and verification checks to confirm whether a new record title has been achieved.
When you submit an application for a new record title, Records Category Specialists carefully assess it to confirm whether or not your proposal can be accepted. When you submit your evidence for a new or existing title, the Records Management Team will run comprehensive checks on this evidence to confirm whether it is sufficient to demonstrate that you have achieved the record title in question.
During the application process you will be able to search our entire database of records and find out if we already have a record matching your idea and what the target to beat is.
If your proposal for a new title is accepted, or if you are applying for an existing title, you will receive your guidelines to attempt the record. It is important that you read these and the evidence checklist pack carefully, and document all requested evidence. This is so our team can assess all evidence provided and verify whether your attempt has been successful.
It is also important that you ask any questions well in advance of any record attempt. This is to ensure we have time to respond, as it can take up to 2 weeks for us to get back to you. If your application has been accepted, you will be able to send all correspondence via your online account directly to your records manager.
Visit our How to collect and submit evidence to get an idea of the evidence you need to provide as part of your record attempt.
For new record ideas please note that Guinness World Records only recognises WORLD records. We do not verify national / country specific achievements.
Unfortunately, our Kids Records are not currently open for proposals on new titles, but you can apply for our existing records via our Kids Website and we suggest you check this page for any new Kids Record releases in the future
We currently hold more than 15,000 records online, so if you wish to find out if a record exists, please feel free to explore our website!
You can locate a record by using the search and entering keyword(s).
To search for specific keywords, please use quotation marks (“xxxx”), as this will show all results containing your chosen keywords.
If you still can’t find what you’re looking for, it may be that the record you are interested in has not been updated on our website yet, is not a record that we currently monitor or currently does not exist.
If you are enquiring about a record to break or set, then please register an account with us. Then login, click on ‘Apply for a record’ in your dashboard to make an application. You will have the option to ‘Apply for a New Record Title’ if you cant find the record you are looking for.
As we do not provide an individual consultative service, we are currently unable to answer questions relating to multiple record enquiries or specific detailed record enquiries.
You can also review the rest of our FAQ section for more answers.
As the world’s unrivalled authority on record-breaking achievement, our role is to celebrate the world’s best, to inspire ordinary people and to entertain and inform.
For these reasons, we do not pay record-breakers for their achievements or for carrying out a record title attempt. We are also unable to cover any expenses, offer sponsorship or provide equipment for anyone attempting a record.
In addition, we are unable to make contributions to individuals, charities or businesses. This is to maintain our unbiased stance as the world’s global record breaking authority and to ensure that we are truly inclusive of all applicants.
Some of the most frequently broken records include the Longest DJ marathon, the Heaviest item lifted with glue and the Most apples bobbed in one minute! Another record that is broken regularly is the Oldest person in the world, but the oldest person ever remains Jeanne Louise Calment who lived to be an incredible 122 years and 164 days old.
While Guinness World Records no longer monitors who tops the overall leader board of ‘most records broken’ (as all titles we monitor are very different and require an array of skills), some of our most prolific record breakers of all time include Silvio Sabba (Italy) Ashrita Furman (USA), David Rush (USA) and André Ortolf (Germany).
There are more than 40,000 current records in our database, however due to space constraints, we can only publish around 4,000 records in the book each year which always makes it a tough decision for our editorial team and editor-in-chief!
If your record hasn’t been selected for publication, there’s always a chance that it may be included in future editions, or it may appear on our official website.
There are more than 40,000 current records in our database and we try our best to feature as many as possible online. We currently include over 15,000 records online which we update every week, so make sure to check the site regularly!
For any record titles associated with large amounts of food, our Record Guidelines stipulate that it must either be consumed or distributed for consumption after it has been measured. As with all record titles, the Record Guidelines must be adhered to in order to be considered a successful Guinness World Records title.
To enable us to continue to be a part of thousands of personal achievement journeys, we can only provide access to use services such as an official adjudicator through our fee-based Consultancy service.
Visit the business solutions section to learn more about the services they provide; if you would like to speak to a member of the Consultancy team, please select the option to Contact an Account Manager.
If you wish to break an existing record or set a new record, and want to view the guidelines, you will need to submit an online application first.
Each application for a new record title is reviewed individually by an expert and we are unable to tell you if your record can be accepted by email or phone.
If you need some ideas on what to choose, take a look at What Makes a Guinness World Records title? or explore our records showcase for inspiration.
Also visit our guide to evidence page to get an idea of the evidence you need to provide as part of your record attempt.
Please note, we cannot respond to postal enquiries.
We do not provide individual consultative services as part of the Self-service application. All Self-service application proposals must be made via our website by submitting an application.
Before suggesting a new record, please view What makes a Guinness World Records title?
If you are applying on behalf of a business, agency or non-profit organisation, you may be interested in our Record Consultancy Service.
Yes, depending on the type of record you wish to attempt. However, if you are under the age of 13, you will need either a parent or guardian to create an account and submit the application on your behalf.
If you need some tips on what is a record then please have a look at What makes a Guinness World Records title?
Don’t forget, you can always explore our Records Showcase to get some great ideas too!
Guinness World Records enforces a minimum age limit of 16 years old on a number of record categories. These are typically for highly physical, dangerous or endurance based records. There are also other records we consider unsuitable for people under the age of 16 to attempt, this is at Guinness World Records discretion.
If you’re under 16 you’ll be unable to apply for the record, so we encourage you to apply again when you’re older. In the meantime please search the website for other records you can attempt.
Guinness World Records does not accept any records relating to chain letters, sent by post or e-mail.
If you receive a letter or an e-mail which promises to publish the names of all those who send it on, it is not genuine.
Even if it states that Guinness World Records or the postal service are involved, we are not and no such attempt would be recognised as a world record.
If you have reached your limit, you will get a message on your dashboard that will tell you how long you have to wait until you can make another application.
Priority Application / Priority Evidence Review
You can choose the Priority Application service during the online application process when you first submit your application. If you decide you want to speed things up a bit later, you can switch to Priority Application at any time. If you choose the Priority Application option, your application will be reviewed within 5 working days. Normal application processing can take up to 12 weeks*.
To do this, please login to your Guinness World Records account, select the relevant application and click on Upgrade to Priority Application.
Once you have sent us your evidence, you can also purchase our Priority Evidence Review service to prioritise the review of the evidence and the approval of your record.
The Priority Evidence Review service is only available AFTER we have received your full evidence, and will ensure that your evidence is reviewed within 5 working days (waiting times are up to 12 weeks* for standard applications).
We currently accept 2 methods of payment for Priority Application and Priority Evidence Review: PayPal and Worldpay.
If you prefer to pay by bank transfer, please request an invoice when you come to the payment page during the application process and follow the instructions.
Please note our Priority Application service is not a consultative service for standard applicants – it only speeds up the standard application process. Using the Priority Application process does not guarantee that your application will be successful, and we do not issue refunds if your application is unsuccessful.
If you wish to learn more about our fee-based Consultancy services or if you are applying on behalf of an organisation or brand please visit the Business Solutions section of our website.
Please refer to our Current application waiting times page for the most up-to-date information.
Our priority application and evidence review services are only available to individuals or small groups whose primary purpose for attempting a record is personal achievement.
If you are attempting a record on behalf of an organization, please contact our Consultancy division where they are included as part of a wide range of products and services to help maximise the impact of your record attempt. To find out more about how we can help, visit our Business Solutions pages.
N.B. receipts are not generated if you pay via bank transfer
If you have already generated an invoice for your application you must pay by bank transfer.
If you would prefer to pay by another method you need to cancel your current application and start a new one.
You will then have the option to pay by credit card or PayPal.

Record policies
Guinness World Records has a strict list of record policies that must be adhered to for all our record breaking achievements.
We assess all new record titles against our values of integrity, respect, inclusiveness and passion and it is of the utmost importance to us that all our records reflect this.
As such, we have a number of internal policies that all records must adhere to. Our policies are regularly reviewed and updated in collaboration with expert organisations and based on feedback from our readers.
Please find a non-exhaustive list and details of our policies.
Any record involving the consumption of alcohol as part of drinking contests, binge drinking or speed drinking.
Any records that could potentially endanger or harm animals. This includes any records in which the animals would have to be put to greater stress to achieve a new record, such as endurance records, or records which include any level of danger for the animal. For all animal records, the animal must do the attempt without any physical contact with their owner/trainer. Any attempts that would require physical prompts from the owner/trainer are not allowed.
Food wastage
Inbreeding has historically been used to exaggerate extremes in animal conformation (body shape, structure, or appearance). This practice has led to the suffering of many animals, due to their extreme conformation, which compromises welfare. Promoting sensible breeding practices ensures we maintain the health of future generations and taking a welfare-focused approach helps to eliminate health problems associated with some breed/species standards. This ensures animals lead full and pain-free lives. Society, including brands such as Guinness World Records, must accept responsibility and promote improvements in breeding practices to protect animals from exploitation.
Guinness World Records will not monitor any records involving unsuitable activities or those which could cause potential harm or danger to spectators.
Such as largest release of party balloons, sky lanterns, etc. are no longer monitored.
We do not monitor any records for excessive eating records. All of our eating records showcase the skill of speed eating only and as such are limited to short time periods and small quantities of food, such as fastest time to eat three cream crackers.
We require any record relating to food to follow strict policies regarding food consumption and donation.
Guinness World Records will not endorse or permit Illegal activities in pursuit of record breaking. Any record attempt proven to occur outside of the local law would be disqualified.
Guinness World Records will not process inappropriate or offensive applications.
Guinness World Records does not monitor any medical testing records that involve the skin being pierced, or an examination in which a device enters the body beyond what is reasonably comfortable. This includes any tests which require a needle; or an internal physical examination.
Guinness World Records is an apolitical organisation, determined to protect the integrity of our records by remaining politically neutral. Therefore, we do not accept record applications which we consider to be politically motivated and we reserve the right to reject or cancel a record application should we deem it to promote a political agenda.
Positive action can be described as the implementation of measures to increase representation and participation amongst underrepresented groups of people.
To GWR, that means ensuring our record titles are as inclusive as possible. Where a case for positive action can be made, GWR will therefore consider record titles, timeframes and other factors outside of our standard criteria. Typically, this would see us create a new record title with an impairment classification which would usually be unavailable to a non-impaired person, as a means of encouraging greater interest and participation in record-breaking from individuals with a physical, visual or intellectual impairment.
Guinness World Records tries to include as wide a variety of activities as possible to appeal to different age groups, and concentrate on absolute records, rather than those that are qualified in some way.
GWR may decide to implement a reasonable adjustment to record guidelines or evidence requirements to level the playing field and ensure that an impaired person is not at a disadvantage to someone who is not impaired when attempting a Guinness World Records title.
For example, we may allow adapted equipment or extended rest breaks if required, allowing a participant to attempt their chosen record title under the appropriate conditions for their impairment.
Guinness World Records no longer accepts applications or creates new record titles that are related to the consumption, preparation or use of tobacco, cannabis or nicotine products.
The principle of voluntary participation requires that people must not be coerced into participating in a record attempt. However, participants may be recompensed for their expense, time, and inconvenience.
Participants at Guinness World Records events must take part of their own free will. Organisers must ensure that all participants are full informed about the record they are taking part in.
Applicant Information Alert: Coronavirus Update
With COVID-19 still prevalent in many countries around the world, Guinness World Records is aware that there are concerns and restrictions around large gatherings of people. Please read below.
GWR encourages all applicants to seek local health and safety advice before deciding to go ahead with their attempt and if in any doubt, they should consider postponement or cancellation.
We are mindful that people around the world may be part way through a journey record attempt and suffering travel restrictions or facing quarantine periods. We are allowing these attempts to be paused and encourage applicants to adhere to local and global health and safety advice, and only continue with their attempt when safe.
During this time we kindly ask any applicants to continue to submit evidence to us only by uploads through their application and refrain from sending anything by post. Postal evidence is not something we usually accept and as many of our offices are closed due to the COVID-19 situation it’s unlikely the packages will be delivered by postal services successfully.

Have you ever wondered where the largest climate change protest took place? Or what cool tricks cats and dogs can do?
Or maybe you’d like to be a Changemaker with Earthwatch?
If the answer is yes, and you’re curious and ready to start a fun-packed journey, you’re in the right place.
Meet some of our record-breaking superstars.
Let yourself be inspired by their amazing achievements: every single one of them is a real-life reminder that amazing things can bloom from focus, enthusiasm and fun.
Fastest 5m on a scooter by a dog and cat (pair)
Meet Lollipop the dog and Sashimi the cat, two scooter enthusiasts from Canada.
Their favourite pastime? Scootering around the house together – a trick they came up with all by themselves, much to the surprise of their owner, Melissa Millett.
With a record of 4.37 seconds, Lollipop and Sashimi confirmed their (unlikely!) partnership as more than a hobby: it’s a record-breaking sensation.
Fastest 100m forward rolls and Most backwards somersault burpees in 30 seconds
Like many others, 28-year-old gymnast Bethany Lodge (UK) struggled to keep her motivation during the pandemic.
Her solution to win over the lockdown slumber? Setting herself an ambitious goal: breaking a record.
In the end, she broke two: fastest 100m forward rolls (42.64 seconds) and most backwards somersault burpees 30 seconds (5).
“I’m honoured,” she said upon discovering that she would feature in the book. Her attempt inspired her friends and family to sign for records of their own, but it also reminded the world that exercising doesn’t have to be a chore. Find something you love, make it fun, and make it happen!
Most skips over a person’s own hair in 30 seconds
An artist who creates sculptures with her hair, model, actress, and record-breaker: the ever-versatile Laetitia Ky has done it all.
The hairstyles Laetitia (who comes from Abidjan, Ivory Coast) creates can take from 20 minutes up to 3 hours to finish, and vary across a series of different styles, lengths and difficulties. They are all, however, inspired by the pre-colonial tradition of women in African culture.
Combining her hair-sculpting abilities and athletic skills, and with the aid of extensions braided with her natural hair, 25-year-old Laetitia has skipped a rope made out of her own hair for 30 seconds.
Fastest 20m walking on hands
Zion Clark (Ohio, USA) was born with Caudal Regression Syndrome.
Despite the difficulties of his condition and suffering an abandonment during his childhood, Clark’s positive mindset helped him persevere through life: he was first introduced to wrestling in elementary school and became a professional in high school. He features in Guinness World Records 2022 for the fastest 20m walking on hands – scoring a stunning time of 4.78 seconds.
After pursuing his passion with strength and motivation, Zion is now aiming for the stars.
His current goal is to become the first American athlete to compete in both the Olympic (wrestling) and Paralympic (wheelchair racing) games in 2024.
Shortest competitive bodybuilder (male)
Pratik Mohite started bodybuilding in 2012.
He got off on a rocky start after struggling to grip the equipment during workouts, and people around him often considered him weak. He fought to prove them wrong.
Measuring 102 centimetres in height (3ft 4in), Pratik’s is not a story of easy success – his is a narrative of commitment, of strength, and it’s even more inspiring.
“Anyone can do anything” is the uplifting message behind his athletic preparation.
Today, the 25-year-old bodybuilder from Maharashtra, India, broke the record for shortest competitive bodybuilder (male).
Embark on an amazing adventure with these record-breaking heroes, and many others, discovering a wide new world well beyond the boundaries of your imagination – but accessible from the comfort of your home.

Про Книгу рекордов Гиннеса даже есть видеоигра — «Guinness World Records: The Videogame».

Understanding guidelines
Each and every record monitored at Guinness World Records has a set of specific guidelines. Our guidelines detail the rules that must be followed when attempting the record and the evidence that must be provided. The guidelines ensure that the record is standardisable and verifiable. In other words the guidelines tell you how it needs to be done and what you need to submit to us in order to prove it!
It is vital that your guidelines are read before your record attempt. We also have a Guide To Your Evidence document which supports your guidelines and will provide further guidance on the evidence needed to verify your attempt.
The guidelines you receive are unique to your record. All stated rules must be followed and all evidence must be submitted in order to become a Guinness World Records title holder.
Where can I find my guidelines?
You will find your guidelines on your application page, these will appear as a link below the current record title and above the current record. Select the link to view your guidelines.
What do each of the guideline sections mean?
Your guidelines consist of five different sections:
When you open up your guidelines you will see a legal notice. This is very important information that must be read and understood fully before you choose to proceed with your record attempt. See an extract below.
This document acts as a guide to the specific considerations and undertakings for your potential record attempt and is to be used in conjunction with the Guide to Your Evidence, which outlines the evidence we require to verify the success of your record attempt. These guidelines should be read and understood by all concerned with the record attempt prior to the attempt – this includes every participant, organiser and witness.
These guidelines are specific to your record attempt and must be followed. Should any part of these guidelines be contravened, your record attempt will be disqualified, without any right of appeal.
Additionally, these guidelines in no way provide any kind of safety advice and cannot be construed as providing any comfort that the record attempt is free from risk.
Guinness World Records accepts no responsibility for the safety of participants or bystanders in any record attempt. It is your sole responsibility to ensure that (a) all necessary safety precautions are in place and that all equipment used is suitable and thoroughly checked prior to the record attempt taking place and (b) you are in compliance with all applicable health and safety laws and regulations.
If you are attempting a record online using a non-GWR website, GWR is not responsible for the content of that platform or anything that may happen, including technical issues, during your attempt.
If you are organising a record attempt in association with an alcoholic brand you must seek explicit written permission in advance from GWR, otherwise your record may not be approved. Please send your requests to GWR using the Correspondence section in your online application.
The above guidance does not constitute legal advice and does not extinguish or dilute your contractual obligations to GWR.
If upon reviewing your evidence it becomes clear that any one of the above measures has not been adhered to, GWR reserves the right to disqualify the record attempt.
Finally, the provision of these guidelines in no way constitutes GWR’s consent for you to undertake a record attempt. Any record attempt will only be considered to be authorised by us where you have signed our standard agreement in relation to record attempts.
Here is an example of a Record definition (for the Most skips in one minute):
This section is the list of rules unique to your specific record, the points here will give you specific guidance on how to attempt the record. Please be aware that there are more rules found below in the category guidelines. The rules are listed by number but all are as important as each other and each and every one must be followed.
The category guidelines contain the rules and evidence requirements for all records of that format. For example the rules that must be followed for all attempts made in one minute, or our standard rules and evidence requirements for large food items.
So remember the Category Guidelines include ALL general points and ALL evidence requirements, so they are very different from the Record guidelines, which only include points that are specific to your record title only.
The category guidelines title will indicate to you the record format. You do not need to worry about this. For example:
You will then see the sentence ‘Please make sure you follow ALL these rules:’. The rules in this section are guideline point/rules that are applicable to all records within the same format. These points are listed using lower case letters (a. b. c. etc.). For example:
You will then see the evidence section, which is introduced by the following sentence: ‘Please make sure you supply the following evidence:’
These points are listed using bullet points and they list what evidence you must supply to enable us to verify your record attempt. Each piece of evidence is underlined and then repeated in the checklist.
An example of Category Guidelines- Evidence:
You will also see a reference to the Guide to Your Evidence document. This document is a crucial document and explains in detail our evidence. For example you will find information on who can act as an independent witness, what we count as independent etc. You will also find templates that can be used to create your evidence documents for example for a witness statement.
The final section of the guidelines is the evidence checklist. This provides you with a checklist of items that Guinness World Records requires. You’ll find the information on each item in the evidence section of the category guidelines and further guidance in the Guide To Your Evidence document. It is important that you have ALL items on your evidence checklist before you submit your evidence for review. Otherwise you risk your evidence review being delayed or rejected.
How to print your guidelines
You will find in the top right hand corner of the screen a button to convert your guidelines into a PDF document. This will create a printable format. Remember that the guidelines need to be shared and read by the participants and those involved in the verification process such as the Independent witnesses so this function will allow you to do this.
Guide To Your Evidence
View our Guide To Your Evidence where you will find further information on the Evidence we require to verify your record attempt. You will also find templates for evidence such as the cover letter, witness statements and log books.
What if I have questions about my guidelines?
If you have any questions about your guidelines you will be able to ask these direct to the Records Management Team through the correspondence function.
23 of the Weirdest Guinness World Records Ever
It includes this guy, who has the stretchiest skin we’ve ever seen.
Trivia time: The idea for the Guinness Book of World Records came out of an argument Sir Hugh Beaver, managing director of the Guinness Brewery, had on a hunting trip in the early 1950s. He wasn’t able to find the answer to the fastest game bird in any reference book.
Later, that inspired his plan for Guinness to do a promotion around a book that would settle pub arguments. That first book, written by Norris and Ross McWhirter, was published August 27, 1955. And the 2016 edition — complete with an updated round of titles — will be available on September 10. In honor of the 60th anniversary, here are some of the wackiest record holders.
Go, ‘Murica. U.S. resident Donald A. Gorske consumed his 26,000th McDonald’s Big Mac on October 11, 2012 — after 40 years of eating Big Macs on a daily basis.
This illustrious honor (we want to know how many people were brave enough to actually compete for it) is held by London-based performance artist Johnny Strange. He established the record of eight apples in one minute in October 2013 in South Yorkshire, UK.
British man Garry Turner can stretch the skin of his stomach to 6.25 inches due to a rare medical condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. It’s a connective-tissue disorder where the collagen becomes defective, and includes the loosening of the skin and hyper-mobile joints. «I have always known that my skin was different — as a small child my uncles used to have fun showing their friends,» Turner told GWR. «Stretching doesn’t hurt at all. However, other aspects of the syndrome are very painful, [like my] joints.»
After her first skin piercing in January 1997, Elaine Davidson was hooked. The Brazilian former restaurant owner has been pierced a total of 4,225 times as of June 8, 2006. The GWR site says she is constantly adding and replacing jewelry, primarily on her face, but also likes adding tattoos, makeup, and feathers in her hair.
Talk about strong choppers! Georges Christen from Luxembourg ran 38 feet and 8 inches while carrying a 26 pound table — and a 110 pound woman sitting on it! — in his mouth in Madrid, Spain, on February 9, 2008.
Apparently, that’s a real thing. And Andrew Stanton, a sideshow performer in Las Vegas, achieved the length of 11 feet, 10.91 inches in March 2012.
Ram Singh Chauhan’s mustache is the longest, at 14 feet. The Indian man’s facial hair was measured in Rome, Italy, on March 4, 2010.
What he lacks in length, Karl-Heinz Hille makes up for in style. The German has taken home 8 wins at the World Beard and Moustache Championships, competing in the Imperial partial beard category.
Charlotte Lee (USA) has 5,631 different rubber ducks, as of 10 April 2011, which she has been collecting since 1996. (Here’s another peek at her, um, flock.)
At her four-acre «Gnome Reserve» in West Putford, England, Ann Atkin has 2,042 gnomes and pixies, as of March 2011.
The Force is with Steve Sansweet in abundance. A former Wall Street Journal bureau chief who went to work at Lucasfilm, Sansweet turned his Star Wars obsession of 37 years into a museum. He’s amassed an estimated 300,000 unique items at Rancho Obi-Wan in northern California. By May 4, 2014, he’d «only» accurately audited and catalogued 92,240 items — still sufficient to beat the previous title holder many times over.
As my grandmother would say, «Be careful, or your face will freeze like that!» Anne Woods doesn’t worry about that though, as the British woman has won the most world championships for gurning — 27 — between 1977 and 2010. The Egremont Crab Fair in Cumbria, England, where the championships are held, was established in 1267, which makes it one of the oldest fairs in the world.
Victor «Larry» Gomez, Gabriel «Danny» Ramos Gomez, Luisa Lilia De Lira Aceves, and Jesus Manuel Fajardo Aceves are four members of a family of 19, spanning five generations in Mexico who all suffer from the rare condition called congenital generalized hypertrichosis. The condition is characterized by excessive facial and torso hair. In women, that means a lighter coat, while men have thick hair on about 98% of their body. Larry and Danny currently perform in the Mexican National Circus. The entire family have also assisted scientists in studying the genetic cause of CGH.
You all know that sound of summer — but Allan Ganz has been hearing it for 67 years and counting. He started selling ice cream with his dad in 1947 at the age of 10 in Peabody, Massachusetts. Allan bought his own ice cream truck in 1977 and has sold ice cream in Massachusetts ever since.
Magic Mike had nothing on Bernie Barker. The American (a former real estate agent) got into stripping in 2000 at age 60, as a way to get in shape after overcoming prostate cancer. He won over 40 contests. Unfortunately, he died in 2007 at the age of 66.
Konjo managed to race 5 meters on his front paws in just 2.39 seconds in California, December 22, 2014. Konjo is half Papillon, a quarter Jack Russell, and a quarter Chihuahua.
Puggy, a Pekingese, possesses the longest licker on record at 4.5 inches. The measurement was taken at Avondale Haslet Animal Clinic, Texas, in May 2009, when he was 9 years old.
Ever wonder just how many a bird could do? Zac the Macaw unopened 35 cans in one minute in San Jose, California, on January 12, 2012.
Sorry, Giselle. Russian woman Svetlana Pankratova officially has the world’s longest legs, measuring 51.9 inches (approximately a little over 4 feet) on July 8, 2003.
And you thought it was on The Bachelor! Ekkachai and Laksana Tiranarat’s love has gone the distance — clocking a kiss at 58 hours, 35 minutes and 58 seconds. The couple, from Thailand, won at a Ripley’s Believe it or Not event on February 12-14, 2013. (They brought home a cash prize and two diamond rings!)
Bullseye! Nancy Siefker shot an arrow into a target 20 feet away — using her feet! — on the set of Guinness World Records Unleashed in Los Angeles, California, on June 20, 2013. Now, the guidelines only require a target of 12 inches in diameter. But Nancy, who’s a cirque performer, hit a just 5.5 inch one.

Ripley’s Believe it or Not 12-14 февраля 2013 года.

🌐 Джейки Майли обладает самой большой коллекцией плюшевых медведей (8025 штук);
🌐 Кролик Бини – лучший кролик-баскетболист в мире: за минуту он семь раз забрасывает мяч в корзину;
🌐 Април Чой за минуту сбивает четыре блока в настольной игре Дженга;
🌐 Андрэ Ортольф без помощи рук за минуту съел 716 граммов желе;
🌐 Скай Броберг пролезла всем телом через теннисную ракетку;
🌐 Баю Денгчун бросал игральные карты в арбузы так, чтобы они застряли. За минуту получилось 17 раз;

Guinness World Records
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Guinness World Records, known from its inception in 1955 until 1999 as The Guinness Book of Records and in previous United States editions as The Guinness Book of World Records, is a reference book published annually, listing world records both of human achievements and the extremes of the natural world. The brainchild of Sir Hugh Beaver, the book was co-founded by twin brothers Norris and Ross McWhirter in Fleet Street, London, in August 1955.
The first edition topped the best-seller list in the United Kingdom by Christmas 1955. [3] The following year the book was launched internationally, and as of the 2022 edition, it is now in its 67th year of publication, published in 100 countries and 23 languages, and maintains over 53,000 records in its database.
The international franchise has extended beyond print to include television series and museums. The popularity of the franchise has resulted in Guinness World Records becoming the primary international authority on the cataloguing and verification of a huge number of world records. [4] [5] The organisation employs record adjudicators to verify the authenticity of the setting and breaking of records.
Thickest ice
The thickest ice in the world forms part of the Antarctic Ice Sheet where it sits over a region known as the Astrolabe Subglacial Basin to the south of the Adélie Coast. Here, the ice sheet has been measured to be 4,897 metres (16,066 feet) thick. The basin is named after Astrolabe, the flagship of the French Antarctic Expedition (1837–40).
Ice thickness is often measured using ice-penetrating radar, and many areas of Antarctica remain unsurveyed, which means that thicker ice could exist but has yet to be measured.
Previously, the greatest recorded thickness of ice was 4,780 metres (15,682 feet), as measured by radio echo soundings from a US Antarctic research aircraft at 69°56’17 in Wilkes Land, eastern Antarctica.
The research that confirmed this as the thickest ice recorded to date was published in the journal The Cryosphere on 28 February 2013.

Strangest diet
During his lifetime, Michel Lotito (France) (b. 15 June 1950) of Grenoble, France, known as Monsieur Mangetout, ate metal and glass throughout his lifetime, beginning in 1959. Gastroenterologists X-rayed his stomach and described his ability to consume 900 g (2 lb) of metal per day as unique.
His diet since 1966 included 18 bicycles, 15 supermarket trolleys, seven TV sets, six chandeliers, two beds, a pair of skis, a low-calorie Cessna light aircraft and a computer. He is said to have provided the only example in history of a coffin (handles and all) ending up inside a man.
He first became aware of his ability when a glass from which he was drinking, broke and he began chewing the fragments. By October 1997, he had eaten nearly 9 tons of metal. He said that bananas and hard-boiled eggs made him sick.
Mr Lotito died of natural causes on June 25, 2007.
