i need to change a little.
and learn a lot.

good to be home for these couple days.i didnt get to see everyone i wanted to.
but i did see a good few and the hangout at tjs was pretty satisfying.our network
in st pete is like a huge family.at least thats what it felt like tonight.probably because
it was thanksgiving.i just realized that i have so many memories with so many people.
even people that i only talk to once a week or month i am still thankful for all of you.
our huge group of friends that extends farther out than we can imagine.does have a
shit load of drama.and some fucked up things happen.but overall i think there is more
good than bad and we are all always there for each other.at least i like to think that.

Best Answer: A lonely person may feel empty or incomplete, and an empty or incomplete person may feel lonely, but they are not quite the same.

A lonely person feels alone, which may also make him feel like he is missing something and therefore incomplete. If someone feels empty, though, it may not be other people that the person lacks. His job may not be fulfilling, for example.

Не говорите «I feel myself», и другие правила английского языка, которые вгоняют в ступор

Английский язык на первый взгляд довольно логичный. Когда только принимаешься за его изучение, практически все правила кажутся понятными. Но среди них есть и ужасно странные правила и нормы.

Сегодня мы расскажем о некоторых правилах английского языка, при знакомстве с которыми хочется сказать: «Да что ты, черт побери, такое несешь?». Готовы? Поехали!

Порядок прилагательных: черт ногу сломит

Одно из тех правил, на которые крайне часто не обращают внимания. Но оказывается, что если возле существительного есть два или больше прилагательных, то их нужно ставить только в определенном порядке и никак иначе.

Преподаватели онлайн-школы английского языка EnglishDom говорят, что на этом правиле засыпается просто огромное количество студентов, которые проходят TOEFL или IELTS.

В русском языке нет разницы, в каком порядке писать прилагательные. Поэтому многие по привычке не обращают внимания на это во время разговора на английском или написания текстов. А это ошибка, за которую снимают баллы.

Запомнить порядок прилагательных с помощью логики невозможно — его нужно только зазубрить.

Вот как должны размещаться прилагательные в английском языке:

1. Оценочные прилагательные (или субъективные) — usual, lovely, nice, fine, beautiful, horrible.
2. Фактические прилагательные (или объективные). Но у объективных своя собственная субординация:
2.1. Прилагательные, которые не входят ни в одну из категорий ниже: cheap, expensive, well-known.
2.2. Размер, форма, возраст, цвет — big, small, tiny, short, round, old, young, yellow, red.
2.3. Происхождение — Arabic, Russian, Spanish.
2.4. Материал — wooden, plastic, silk, leather.
3. Существительное в форме прилагательного — sports, coffee.

She was a beautiful (1), tall (2.2), thin (2.2), young (2.2), black-haired (2.2), Scottish (2.3) woman. — Она была красивой, высокой, стройной молодой черноволосой шотландской девушкой.

И тут сразу открывается целая куча нюансов, которые студенты запоминают очень с трудом.

Для начала, числительное должно быть в любом случае перед всем скопом прилагательных. С этим просто.

С оценочными прилагательными вроде тоже никаких проблем — это субъективное мнение.

Внекатегорийные — тоже не сложно. По сути это прилагательные, которые очень близки к оценочным, но по факту ими не являются.

«Cheap» описывает цену, то есть, факт. Но цена тоже может быть субъективной. Для кого-то она низкая, а для кого-то высокая.

Well-known описывает степень известности. Но для разных групп известность чего-либо будет разной.

Если не уверены, то просто ставьте такое прилагательное после оценочного — и будет счастье.

Дальше еще сложнее. Потому что у лингвистов по сути нет единого мнения. Одни считают, что прилагательные размера, формы, возраста и цвета равны между собой и если таких несколько, то их можно ставить в любом порядке. Другие же утверждают, что порядок обязателен: размер, форма, возраст и цвет.

Мы же советуем все-таки придерживаться четкого порядка.

Двойное отрицание: нельзя, но если очень хочется, то можно

Преподаватели английского языка все как один говорят: двойное отрицание в английском использовать нельзя.

На самом деле не совсем.

В разговорном языке всем до лампочки. Двойное отрицание используют очень активно.

— I didn’t see nothing. — Я не видел ничего.

— I saw nothing. — Я не видел ничего.
— I didn’t see anything — Я не видел ничего.

Основная проблема в том, что в английском языке как в математике минус на минус должен давать плюс. То есть, в стандартном английском фраза «I didn’t see nothing» будет означать не «Я не видел ничего», а прямо противоположное: «Я что-то видел».

Чтобы избежать подобной двойной трактовки, двойное отрицание в стандартном английском не используют. Ведь какой смысл во фразе, если не понятно, что именно ты хочешь ею сказать?

Зато в сленговых форматах и в дружественных беседах — всегда пожалуйста. Это, наоборот, считается вполне себе допустимым инструментом разговорного английского.

Более того, его активно используют в культуре. Вспомните песню «Another Brick in the Wall» группы Pink Floyd.

We don’t need no education. — Нам не нужно никакого образования.
We don’t need no thought control. — Нам не нужно никакого контроля мыслей.

Главное — запомнить, что в таком случае двойное отрицание всегда значит отрицание. Математика тут не работает.

«Good» или «Well»? «Bad» или «Badly»?

Правило большого пальца — правило, основанное на практических закономерностях, не привязанных к конкретным четко определенным лингвистическим особенностям языка.

«Good» и «well» имеют практически одинаковое значение — «хорошо».

Но если тебе говорят «Be good!», то это значит «Веди себя хорошо!». А если «Be well!», то «Будь здоров!». Но «Будь здоров!» только в смысле «Не болей!». А если человек чихнул, то принято говорить «Bless you!».

Если не углубляться в теоретическую лингвистику, то слово «Good» выступает в роли прилагательного и имеет все его свойства, а «Well» — в роли наречия.

Лучший способ запомнить это — фраза «If you have a good day, then your day is going well».

«Good» изменяет существительное. То есть, что-то может быть или казаться хорошим.

«Well» изменяет глагол. То есть, какое-нибудь действие идет хорошо.

Но тут добавляется одно исключение. Если разговор касается здоровья, то «well» тоже получает свойства прилагательного.

По сути получается, что Джеймс Браун в своей песне «I feel good» поет «Я чувствую себя хорошим», а не «Я чувствую себя хорошо». Чувствуете разницу?

Кстати, группа Muse делает точно такую же ошибку. «I’m feeling good» — это «Я сейчас чувствую себя хорошим».

Оправдывая исполнителей, скажем, что разговорный английский вообще чихает на любые правила. Но мы тут за правильную грамматику.

Казалось, с «Good» и «Well» разобрались, но тут появляется пара «Bad» и «Badly», и все снова идет как попало.

Проблема в том, что «Bad», и «Badly» — это наречия. По логике они должны обозначать примерно одно и то же. Не-а. Потому что если дело снова касается самочувствия, то снова включается «правило большого пальца».

Возьмем две крайне похожие фразы:

Переводятся они обе как «Я чувствую себя плохо». Но как говорил Чапаев в бородатом анекдоте: «Есть нюанс».

«I feel bad» нужно говорить, если ты чувствуешь себя плохо из-за болезни, к примеру, тошноты. Также фраза подходит, если тебе морально плохо из-за переживаний.

«I feel badly» используется реже, потому что имеет куда более узкое значение. Она уместна, только если тебе плохо из-за физического контакта с чем-нибудь. К примеру, отлежал руку или ударился мизинцем ноги об угол кровати. Тогда «I feel badly» подойдет идеально.

Важно! Очень часто студенты хотят перевести с русского фразу «Я чувствую себя плохо» как «I feel myself bad». Кажется логичным, верно?

Но тут кроется подвох, который опозорил сотни человек. Потому что словосочетание «feel myself» — это эвфемизм для «трогать себя» или «мастурбировать».

Интересно, что подумает начальник, если сказать ему: «Я сегодня не пойду на работу, потому что я плохо feel myself? Как думаете, как скоро уволят такого специалиста?

Но одновременно с этим фраза «feel myself» может быть вполне приличной. К примеру, «I feel myself falling asleep». И переводится она как «Я чувствую, что засыпаю». То есть, если после «feel myself» будет причастие с окончанием «-ing», то фраза будет означать «Я чувствую, что…». Вполне себе цивильно.

Мозги можно сломать, не правда ли?

Подобные «правила большого пальца» или, как мы их называем в EnglishDom, «правила левой пятки» — это одна из тех проблем, с которыми студенты сталкиваются постоянно. Потому что если не знать их, то можно попасть впросак.

Так что учите английский язык и пусть всякие левые правила не мешают вам общаться с носителями языка.

Debbie Gibson Says She’s Single and ‘Loving It’ at 50: ‘I Don’t Feel Incomplete’

«Marriage was in the picture I had of my life, but it was never in the cards for me,» the ’80s teen queen tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue

Debbie Gibson might be single, but there are three guys who have already stolen her heart: her dachshunds Joey, Trouper and Levi.

«I think I’m going to have to wait to date ’til I’m 65 because my dogs will not let anybody near me,» the ’80s teen queen quips in this week’s issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday. «They’re like, ‘That’s our mom! Paws off!'»

All jokes aside, Gibson says that while she’s open to finding love, she doesn’t feel any pressure to date.

«Here I am at 50: I’m solo, I’m loving it and I don’t feel incomplete,» she says. «I don’t feel like I’m missing anything, so if I do meet someone, what a great place to be in to not be looking to someone to complete me in any way.»

After shooting to superstardom at 17 in 1987 with her debut album Out of the Blue, Gibson says she put her love life on the back burner.

«My life has been very unconventional,» she says. «I was an adult as a kid. I was employing a hundred people by 17 years old, and I had adult pressures. I’m not breaking out the world’s smallest violin — but I lived life out of order.»

«I didn’t go to college, and I was learning how to cook and do my laundry well into my 20s, later than most people,» she continues. «My dating life kind of took a back seat. Marriage was in the picture I had of my life, but it was never in the cards for me.»

While working on her first collection of original music in 20 years, The Body Remembers (out Friday), Gibson channeled all that she’s learned about love and life into her songs. On the track «Strings,» for example, she sings about «putting self-love above everything.»

«‘Strings’ is a song about creating boundaries with people and saying, ‘You know what? I can’t do strings-attached friendships or relationships,» she says. «There’s a line in the song — ‘The faith I lost in you, I found in me’ — that’s everything. It’s like, ‘Oh, wait a minute. Why am I attaching strings to somebody? Let me cut all those cords and be me.’ And that’s the place I am in my life.»

In the midst of her own «Hot Girl Summer,» Gibson says the «texts have been rolling in» from male suitors.

«I’m like, ‘Oh, okay. Maybe we’re heading into this chapter,» she says with a laugh. «I don’t know! I’m open to it. I mean, I’m kind of too busy for it right now, but again, that’s a fun place to be in. Something really needs to enhance my life to make it worth letting a person in.»

For now, Gibson — who will next kick off a series of shows with New Kids on the Block’s Joey McIntyre in Las Vegas on Aug. 26 — is focused on taking the advice she’d give her younger self: «Don’t stress too much and take in the moments.»

«Growing up in show business, I felt like it was noble to run myself into the ground,» she says. «Now I see life as an adventure.»

Джорджо Мородер посмотрел «Звездные войны» и его внимание привлекла сцена из бара, где якобы играли музыку будущего. Он сказал себе: «Это не музыка будущего. В это время он как раз работал с Донной Саммер и своим давним соавтором Питом Пелотти над альбомом «I Remember Yesterday», у которого была интересная концептуальная мысль — певица проносилась через годы и расстояния при помощи всего восьми треков, от сороковых до будущего, того, что должно было быть за 1977 годом. Как и во многих других случаях, все-таки общая: и голоса Саммер, и внезапной мысли Мородера о будущем, и незаменимого помощника Пелотти, и инженерного гения Ведела. Сами авторы в некоторых интервью — хочется верить, что из скромности — заявляют, что во многом им помогли шишки с лейблов: якобы президент Casablanca Records видеть не хотел в качестве сингла никакую другую песню, кроме этой — а потом ее заметило гей-движение. Это явно не так: сначала синглом вышла «Can’t We Just Sit Down (And Talk It Over)», а «I Feel Love» была лишь би-сайдом. Затем слушатели явно полюбили вторую сторону — и ее в срочном порядке издали следующей.

А это уже настоящее — совершенно грандиозное — живое выступление

Именно про нее Брайан Ино сказал Дэвиду Боуи после первого прослушивания: «Я слышал звук будущего. Этот сингл поменяет звук клубной музыки на следующие пятнадцать лет». Как справедливо он отметил позже, приблизительно так и случилось — и неделя электронной музыки здесь очень даже при чем. Мородер оказался одним из первых, кто поверил в силу синтезаторов и компьютеров, первым понял, куда пойдет будущее. «I Feel Love» — это больше, чем диско; здесь и прототехно, и упор на музыку, а не на текст, но все-таки лучше не искать в ней больше, чем в ней есть и просто вслушаться и попытаться понять, чем она пленит слушателя. Почему когда Кристиан Бейл бежит по застробоскопленному танцполу за Дженнифер Лоуренс под «I Feel Love» в «Афере по-американски», сердце замирает? Почему когда мы вообще слышим эту песню, душа уходит в пятки? Саммер здесь словно Афродита, одновременно порочная и невинная. Из-за своего максимально краткого текста у нее не может быть других трактовок — это песня о величии любви: пусть здесь и поется скорее о плотской, но одновременно подразумевается и неотделимость от духовной. И голос Саммер эту идею только подтверждает — она сама и есть любовь. Как спела в этом году одна русская певица, поет любовь для нас свою последнюю песню, бегут мурашки вниз по коже, когда она поет — словом, нам остается только молча внемлить. Революцию не показали по телевизору — но насчет радио и танцполов уже нельзя быть настолько уверенными.

Кайли Миноуг

Во время своих туров «I Feel Love» исполняли и Blondie, и Red Hot Chili Peppers, и Warpaint, и Бек, и Мадонна, и Kasabian, и Franz Ferdinand, и Мисс Киттин, но перед исполнением на концертах только Кайли Миноуг решилась записать студийную версию. Впрочем, она так и не вышла и осталась неизданной — зря: с Саммер, конечно, мало кто сравнится, но у Кайли в 2000-м получилось как минимум сделать достойную версию в духе времени.

Клаус Номи

Один из самых диких и одновременно лучших каверов на песню — Номи явно заменил текст, но спел песню на итальянском, как и положено оперному певцу. Получилось так, как будто бы нью-вейвовая группа выступает в консерватории — оторваться от этой перепевки просто невозможно.

Blue Man Group

Одни из главных американских чудаков делают из песни — впрочем, как всегда — настоящее шоу: вокалистка Аннетт Стрин в светящемся платье, немного хэви-метала, эквалайзеры, и много-много-много перкуссии и барабанов; смотрится это просто невероятно — уж что-что, а устроить из концерта представление они умеют.

Bronski Beat и Марк Алмонд

Джимми Соммервиль и Марк Алмонд на пару исполняют кавер не только на «I Feel Love», но и на другой хит Саммер, «Love to Love You Baby» — и попутно не забывают про песню Джона Лейтона «Johnny Remember Me». Вместе с клипом песня создает, гм, интересный эффект — по нынешним временам вполне может попасть под какой-нибудь закон; впрочем, дает и повод для размышлений о континууме танцевальной музыки.

Plantains

Малоизвестная группа из Мичигана, вообще-то играющая серф, прославилась после того, как их кавер-версия Саммер попала в трейлер нового фильма Джейсона Райтмана «Мужчины, женщины и дети», посвященного любви в эпоху мессенджеров и соцсетей. Тем интересна их тихая, акустическая перепевка — практически воздушная, но из-за эффектов все-таки припадающая к земле.

Недавний номинант Mercury Prize тоже представляет свою акустическую версию: здесь все-таки куда важнее свободное падение, а не любовь — во всем этом чувствуется какой-то нешуточный нерв. Ну и нельзя не отдать должное тому, что он просто играет ее на гитаре, без эффектов и прочего — в такой трактовке ее представить было несколько сложно.

Black Strobe

Французы, чтящие заветы электроклеша, не могли не отдать дань уважения эпохе, благодаря которой появился их жанр — и записали целый сингл «I Feel Love 1979»: это тягучий синтезаторный номер, который больше напоминает о вышеупомянутой Мисс Киттин и французском хаусе третьей волны; главное, что в звучании явно оглядывались на монументальность оригинала.

Balaam and the Angel

В мире есть и габбер, и хардкор-нойз версии «I Feel Love» — но в интернете их нет. Поэтому ограничимся близкой к хардроковой версии — как будто бы Джон Бон Джови зашел в студию к группе Sparks и зачем-то записал этот кавер. Это, конечно, скорее забавно, но почему бы и нет.

Ham Sandwich

«I Feel Love» в некоторой степени похожа на госпел — и несколько странно, что эту тему развивает группа с названием «сендвич с ветчиной». Впрочем, на этом шутки у ирландцев кончаются — это барокко-поп-версия, очень красивая и сыгранная с максимальным уважением к оригиналу (и приблизительно поэтому очень сильно от нее отличающаяся).

Mundongo

И напоследок — человек с гитарой в ванне, драм-машина и некто с пузом и ведром на голове исполняют «I Feel Love» и танцуют — не запомнить это видео нельзя. К тому же, теперь вы точно видели все.
