Если вы видите одежду, и вам, хочется в неё всматриваться, вчитываться и непременно «нырнуть», скорее всего, это вещь от Faith, Hope, Love. И это нам рассказала не основательница бренда Эрика. Это поняли мы сами.

Что такое Faith, Hope, Love?

Faith, Hope, Love сейчас — скорее, собственный мерч, это идеи и эмоции, в каждую из которых я вкладываю и частичку души. Мне всегда нравились вещи со смыслом, и идея создать такой своеобразный мерч показалась очень близкой.

Как и когда ты решила создать бренд?

3 года назад из-за травмы пришлось завершить спортивную карьеру (Эрика мастер спорта по теннису), и в один прекрасный день захотела футболку с фразой из песни. Такой футболки, естественно, нигде не нашлось, и я решила сделать её самой. Нашла футболку, заказала краску по ткани и расписала. Позже все знакомые и даже незнакомые спрашивали, где взять такую же, и в итоге заказали у меня. А бренд как-то родился сам собой.

Почему Faith, Hope, Love?

Вера, надежда и любовь – три главные истины, составляющие наш мир, поэтому я решила, что название Faith, Hope, Love станет более, чем символичным (ведь большинство цитат именно и любви). А ещё 30 сентября день моего рождения, и именно в этот день празднуется день святых Веры, Надежды и Любови. К слову, я даже получила благословение церкви, и мои работы в повседневной жизни носят служители православной епархии, образы святых я, конечно, на толстовках не изображаю, а вот псалом однажды процитировала.

Как рождается рисунок?

Обычно я смотрю на вещь и уже вижу, что там будет, но, конечно, стараюсь воплотить то, что человек хочет, подойти максимально индивидуально к каждому, понять, что близко, выделить общие связующие образы и потом просто их стилизовать. С разными людьми всегда интересно: у каждого свои представления и желания, — но результат всегда всем нравится, это радует. Сначала многие просят минимализм, потом видят полностью расписанную толстовку и говорят, что хотят вот так:) А как-то был случай, когда всю одежду принесли: джинсы, обувь, куртки, — и один раз даже цветочный горшок попросили расписать. А из масштабного заказывали разрисовать форму для детской теннисной сборной.

Сколько занимает весь процесс?

Сама роспись, даже если это сложный портретный рисунок, занимает в среднем день, но всё зависит от количества заказов (всё-таки, я этим занимаюсь в одиночку). Разрисовка не занимает много времени, а вот просушка слоёв и закрепление – да, поэтому и краска держится более двух лет.

Просят ли написать нецензурную лексику, и как ты к этому относишься?

Пару раз просили написать мат, но эти фразы и цитаты противоречат моим убеждениям, поэтому стараюсь предложить заказчику альтернативу, но если прямо очень просят и настаивают, могу замазать одну букву. Ну, и конечно, всякие сатанинские символы я тоже не рисую. На это я вообще не соглашусь, несмотря на то, что стиль не выглядит белым и пушистым.

Было ли, что на эскизе одно, а вышло совсем другое?

Скорее, в голове одно, а по итогу другое, но сейчас уже такого нет, опыт внёс свои правки. Ещё, бывало, могла перепутать буквы в тексте, тогда замазывала все слово и писала поверх старого, выходило даже лучше, чем планировала. А однажды вообще случайно разлила краску на всю толстовку, подумала, что так и нужно и допачкала её окончательно, но выбрасывать толстовку из-за того, что что-то не получилось, ну уж нет. В работе художника приятно то, что всегда можно всё исправить.

Сколько стоит?

Стандартная роспись (например, несколько фраз) в среднем стоит 3500 рублей. Но цена, разумеется, зависит не от моего настроения, а от сложности и масштаба рисунка, на него уйдёт не только больше времени, но и краски. И если это что-то более грандиозное, то цена будет примерно 5500. Мне хочется, чтобы это было доступным.

Где купить и какие планы на будущее?

Хочу развивать этот бренд и мечтаю открыть офлайн магазин, где всем было бы уютно, а пока основным местом продажи выступает Инстаграм и телеграм-канал.

FAITH, HOPE, LOVE, THESE THREE.

The Holy Bible introduces us to concepts which theologians sometimes call «metaphysical» concepts. These are concepts generally of «being and knowing» which are not based on «hard physical science.» They include Biblical concepts like those of spirit, soul, heaven, hell, angels, demons, Satan, the Almighty God, etc. In short, the so-called «metaphysical» concepts include all to which the Bible refers as «things which are not seen.» The scripture further informs us, «For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.» (2 nd Corinthians 4:18). It is with things «eternal» and «not seen,» things which cannot be discerned with the five senses of the fleshly body, which I am concerned in this study. Instead of the term «metaphysical things,» however, I prefer to use the Biblical term «spiritual things,» as does Paul in Romans 15:27.

«Spiritual things» are of such importance in the Bible that they are discussed with a special vocabulary of spiritual words. Of course, many of the spiritual words are adaptations of material words, having been given new meanings when used in spiritual settings. Words like «life,» «death,» «garden,» «house,» «armor,» «body,» etc. are of this type, being often used metaphorically to describe spiritual concepts. But other words like «soul,» «spirit,» «angel,» «demon,» «God,» etc. have their primary meanings in the spiritual realm. Three such words, «faith,» «hope,» and «love,» are primarily spiritual words.

To Christians the words «faith,» «hope,» and «love» convey non-material concepts, being related to the functions of the spiritual «inner person,» although having important effect upon functions of the fleshly body as well. It is the spiritual concepts contained in these three words, «faith,» «hope,» and «love,» that I want to explore in this study. The great attention given to these three words in the New Testament prompts us to try to gain further understanding because of their obvious importance.

First of all, note that «faith,» «hope,» and «love» are very important parts of the message for Christian living in all of the epistles of the New Testament. Moreover, they are always mentioned as being specifically related to each other, as though they form a sort of triumvirate governing the Christian life.

FAITH, HOPE, AND LOVE, A TRIUMVIRATE OF GIFTS FOR SUSTENANCE OF THE CHRISTIAN LIFE.

In Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians, chapters 12 and 13, Paul indicated that «faith,» «hope,» and «love» are a related set of spiritual gifts granted by the Holy Spirit to each and every Christian. First, in chapter 12, Paul spoke of several other more special gifts and said that one Christian may be given «special wisdom» by the Spirit, another may be given «special knowledge,» another «special faith,» another «special gifts of healing,» another «special ability to work miracles,» another «special ability to prophesy,» another «special ability to distinguish spirits,» another «special ability to speak in various tongues,» and another «special ability to interpret the meaning of those tongues.»

Paul stressed the point that various Christians are given different gifts, some one gift, some another, and perhaps, some no special gifts at all. Paul added, however, that whatever gifts are given, they are given by the same Holy Spirit who distributes to each Christian just as He wills. (1 st Corinthians 12:4-30). After discussing these special gifts, Paul made it clear at the end of chapter 12 that there are greater, more excellent gifts to be received by Christians than the special ones he had just discussed. Paul then, in chapter 13, entered into his great discourse on «love,» relating it to the previous chapter by intimating that the special gifts are only «partial» and will give way to «perfect» gifts like «love.» The time for the «giving up» of the special «partial» gifts to a «greater more excellent way» seems to be indicated in Paul’s words (historically spoken in the first century), «But now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.» (1 st Corinthians 13:13).

The evidence of these two chapters, coupled with the great importance given throughout the New Testament to the specific spiritual gifts of «faith,» «hope,» and «love» in the fulfillment of God’s purpose in Christian lives, prompts this study. The premise of the study is that «faith,» «hope,» and «love» are a related set of spiritual gifts granted by the Holy Spirit, not to certain individuals only, but to each and every Christian; furthermore, that God created them to work together as a system to accomplish in a specific way His purposes in the lives of His Christian servants. I will attempt to illustrate by analogy to physical systems at work in God’s universe how the specific gifts of «faith,» «hope,» and «love» work together as a spiritual system.

First of all, it has not always been clear to me that these three attributes, «faith,» » hope,» and «love,» are not attributes that we don’t have naturally. Must they be received as gifts from God? They once seemed like characteristics which emanated from my own soul, especially from my own human will power. Whatever else God gave to me, I once thought it was my own responsibility to supply «faith.» Great faith seemed to only require great striving from me. And «love,» I thought, was only mine to give or hold back. One person might seem more lovable than another, and love must depend on my own personal preference, I thought. And «hope,» I thought, that was only a will-o-the-wisp, a longing with a mere possibility of coming true. I once thought I had to provide my own power to enable my own little world. What a small, meager world it was. How wrong I was! I was ignoring the greater spiritual realm in which we live, where the Almighty God enables His people with spiritual gifts appropriate for all.

«FAITH» IS THE BASIS FOR THE REVEALING OF GOD’S RIGHTEOUSNESS IN A CHRISTIAN’S LIFE.

«For in it (in the gospel) the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, ‘But the righteous man shall live by faith.'» (Romans 1:17).

«For this reason it is by faith, that it might be in accordance with grace, in order that the promise may be certain to all the descendants, not only to those who are of the Law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all.» (Romans 4:16)

«Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.»(Romans 5:1).

«So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.» (Romans 10:17).

«The life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God.» (Galatians 2:20).

In his Roman letter Paul makes it clear that faith in the gospel is the basis for people to receive the «righteousness of God.» The phrase «righteousness of God»seems to include all the grace and favor which God has toward His creation, especially toward His human beings. It includes justification and sanctification bringing about salvation of sinful human beings, reconciling them with their Creator God. The «righteousness of God» is revealed and granted to sinful human beings through their faith.

Since the favor of God indicated by the term «righteousness of God»is so needed by sinful mankind, and since God’s favor cannot be earned or merited by sinful man, God in His grace grants it simply upon the condition of man’s faith in His Son who made propitiation for sins by shedding His blood. So man’s faith is based on a gift from God, the gift of His Son’s life. Moreover, faith comes by man’s hearing His Son’s word. And His Son’s word is also a gift from God. Thus faith is based on gifts from God.

Paul quoted the Prophet Habakkuk, «The righteous man shall live by faith.» This makes it clear that the faith of which he speaks supports a dynamic life that is lived. Paul states in his Galatian letter that he «lives by faith.» Faith, then, should be an integral part of a spiritual Christian life.

«FAITH» ITSELF IS A GIFT OF GOD THAT GROWS DURING THE CHRISTIAN LIFE.

«As your faith grows, we shall be, within our sphere, enlarged more by you.» (2 nd Corinthians 10:15).

From Paul’s letters we learn not only that «faith» is based on certain great gifts of God, «faith» is itself a gift of God. It is given to every Christian in a «measure,» a «measure» that grows during the Christian life. There are other gifts listed in Romans 12:3-8 that differ according to the grace given to each individual Christian, namely: «prophecy, service, teaching, exhortations, giving, leading, showing of mercy.» These other gifts are to be exercised according to the «proportion» of the»measure of faith» God has given. Thus we learn that «faith» is a very important gift that supplies the motivating force for Christian life activities, such activities as the exercising of the seven other gifts mentioned in Romans 12:3-8. And as «faith» grows in the Christian because of his continuous obedient relationship with Christ, so shall his activities under the grace given to him be enlarged. A Christian’s «faith» gains potential as his spiritual relationship with Christ progresses.

Let us consider some analogies in the physical realm of God’s creation which may help us understand «faith.» «Faith» appears to be like water backed up behind a dam, potentially ready to provide the force to propel the current of a river. Or «faith» is like the electromotive force present in a battery providing the voltage to propel electrical current through a circuit. «Faith» is just one element necessary to make God’s spiritual circuit perform. Next we will consider the place of God’s gift of «love» and how «faith» provides the motivating potential to «love and good works» in God’s spiritual circuit.

«LOVE» IS A GIFT FLOWING CONTINUOUSLY FROM GOD THROUGH HIS HOLY SPIRIT.

«Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.» (1 st John 4:7-11).

«But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.» (Romans 5:8).

«But whoever keeps His word, in Him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him.» (1 st John 1:5).

«No one has seen God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.» (1 st John 4:12-13).

This word «love,» represented in the New Testament by the Greek noun «AGAPE» or the Greek verb «AGAPAO,» is not the common word we hear thrown around loosely to express human personal preference. It is an attribute of God so pervasive in His righteous makeup that the Biblical writer was inspired to declare «God is love.» This «love,» which God has expressed to mankind to a superlative degree in that «He gave His only begotten Son,» can scarcely be defined, but only described with phrases like «all-embracing benevolence and goodwill.» God’s «love» always seeks the highest and best good for mankind with no requirement for merit on man’s part.

This kind of love is not a natural attribute with which man is born. Man is the object of God’s perfect affection, but man does not emit naturally this Godly affection toward other humans. But God wants people to have and to utilize His unique «love» in order for them to exercise it in performance of «good works» as Christians in His eternal Kingdom. So when people embrace Christianity by a «new birth of water and the Spirit,» God grants to them the gift of His «love,»»poured out within their hearts through the Holy Spirit.» Through this gift of His perfect «love» God shares Himself with Christians. Thus this «love» comes only from God into the hearts of those who are «in Christ,» with the Holy Spirit being the communication link.

«LOVE» IS TO FLOW THROUGH THE CHRISTIAN OUTWARD TO PERFORM GOD’S WORK IN PEOPLE AROUND HIM.

«By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love one for another.» (John 13:35).

«Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Fathers commandments, and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full. This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.» (John 15:9-12).

«Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.» (1 st John 4:7).

Again thinking in an analogy of God’s physical creation, God’s «love» appears as a current that flows like water in a channel, or electricity in a circuit. Christians receive great benefits for themselves when God’s «love» flows through their hearts to react with their own «loads» of worldly life. But God’s «love» is not intended to stop there in the Christian’s own heart. It seeks a continuous circuit into other hearts. If it can flow through the Christian into the hearts of others it will perform the «good works» for which God has purposed, and the flowing love will continue in a closed circuit giving glory to God. But if the flow of «love» stops, the circuit is open and no «good work» is done, not even in the heart of the Christian, much less in anyone else. «Love,» like electrical current, really does not exist if it does not flow or is not exercised. On the other hand, when it does flow, it is not dissipated, lost, or even diminished when it is passed on by Christians to others.

«HOPE» IS A SPIRITUAL GIFT PROVIDING PRESENT ENJOYMENT OF THE FUTURE FULFILLMENT OF THE PROMISES OF GOD.

«And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body, for in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one hope for what he sees? A popular use of the word «hope» expresses a mere wish that «everything will probably turn out all right.» This popular use of the word «hope» is usually in reference to expectations of fleshly things. Not so, this «hope.» It is a spiritual word dealing with things «not seen,» or things not detected by the five fleshly senses. This «hope» is a firm, substantive «output» in a Christian’s fleshly life, but it is a spiritual «output» providing a spiritual foretaste in anticipation of the fulfillment of spiritual promises of God. As a spiritual output, «hope» is realized by the spiritual parts of a Christian, being enjoyed especially in the «intellect,» the «volition,» and the «emotion» of the soul which will live forever with Jesus our Lord. Although «hope that is seen is not hope» seen by fleshly eyes, when this «hope» is received, it is «seen» by the «eyes of your heart.»

«Hope» is an «output» of a process God sets in motion in the lives of those who are dedicated to Him. It is not a full and final realization of God’s spiritual promises. But it is received through the working of a God-driven process that deems God’s promises «as good as done.» It is the «output» of a process involving the interaction of «faith» and «love.» Following are some of the spiritual outputs of this hope to be enjoyed during the Christian life on earth:

The assurance of «a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked.» (Acts 24:15).

The assurance of «glory» because Christ is in us. (Colossians 1:27).

The assurance that «God has not destined you for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.» (1 st Thessalonians 5:8-9).

«We exult in hope of the glory of God.» (Romans 5:2).

«We wait eagerly» for the fulfillment of our hope. (Romans 8:25).

God will «fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.» (Romans 15:13).

«We use great boldness in our speech» with which we proclaim the gospel. (2 nd Corinthians 3:12).

We receive «joy» and «crown of exultation» now because our brethren will be «in the presence of our Lord Jesus at His coming.» (1 st Thessalonians 2:19).

We receive «strong encouragement» and «refuge in laying hold of the hope set before us» (Hebrews 6:17-18).

We «draw near to God» even in our fleshly life through our «better hope.» (Hebrews 7:19).

«Everyone who has this hope fixed on him purifies himself just as He is pure.» (1 st John 3:3).

MEANING OF «HOPE» EXEMPLIFIED IN THE LIVES OF GOD’S PEOPLE.

Perhaps the best way for us to understand the blessed gift of «hope» is to read about its exemplification in the lives of Biblical characters. «Hope» has been a gift of God to man throughout the ages of mankind on the earth. Although we are studying it now in order to learn its practical value in the lives of Christians living in the New Testament age, there is much Biblical evidence that God has used «hope» to enable men in the leading of godly lives from the beginning. Although the word «hope» as such is not used in the following New Testament excerpts, the principles of «hope» are revealed.

Many of the Psalms written by King David, son of Jesse, reveal the gift of «hope» ennobling David’s life. One such Psalm was quoted by the Apostle Peter in his sermon on the day of Pentecost following the resurrection and ascension of Jesus. In this case, the inspired Psalm written by David not only served to be a declaration of David’s «hope»while he lived, but also a prophecy of his hope’s fulfillment in Jesus Christ. (From this we learn that the evidences of «hope» demonstrated in Christian lives today also renew the prophecies of the promises of God that formed the bases for the hope,) Here is how the Apostle Peter quoted David:

«For David says of Him, ‘I was always holding the Lord in my presence; for He is at my right hand, that I might not be shaken, therefore my heart was glad and my tongue exulted; moreover my flesh also will abide in hope; because Thou wilt not abandon my soul to Hades, nor allow Thy Holy One to undergo decay. Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; Thou wilt make me full of gladness with Thy promise.'» (Acts 2:25-28; Psalm 16:8-10).

«FAITH,» » LOVE,» AND «HOPE» ARE USED TOGETHER BY CHRISTIANS IN THE SPIRITUAL PRESENCE OF GOD.

«We give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love which you have for all saints; because of the hope laid up for you in heaven, of which you previously heard in the word of truth, the gospel.» (Colossians 1:3-5).

«We give thanks to God always for all of you. constantly bearing in mind your work of faith andlabor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of our God and Father.» (1 st Thessalonians 1:2-3).

In Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians (Chapter 1, verses 2 and 3) Paul refers in a single sentence to all three gifts, «faith,» «love,» and «hope,» each with a single word explanation of how each gift is used in the life of a Christian. Notice the phrases «work of faith,» «labor of love,» and «steadfastness of hope.» The single word to characterize faith is «work.» The single word to characterize love is «labor.» The single word to characterize hope is «steadfastness.»

MEANING OF «WORK OF FAITH.»

Let us consider the phrase «work of faith.» The word «work» is translated from the Greek word ERGON which meant «a business,» «a trade,» or «a work.» The phrase «work of faith,» then, is a metaphor indicating that a Christian is to be in «the business of faith.» It is often necessary for inspired writers of the Bible to describe spiritual things in the language of physical things. In this metaphor, the analogy is a worldly business. In «the business of faith» a Christian takes a «supply of faith» and does something «profitable» with it. The efficacy of the business depends upon the Christian having a supply of «faith» and using it. The «profit» to be gained from this «business» is the accomplishment of God’s purposes in the life of a Christian.

In accord with our previous analogy of «faith» as the voltage in an electrical circuit, the supply of faith provides the motivating force or potential for this «business.» But faith is not the only prerequisite for the starting and the running of this «business.» The «business» must have more than just a motivating force. It must have something to «flow» through the «circuit» to produce «a product to be dispensed.» This brings us to the Christian’s use of the gift of «love.»

MEANING OF «LABOR OF LOVE.»

In Paul’s phrase «labor of love,» the word «labor» is translated from the Greek word KOPOS, which meant «a beating,» «wearing out work,» or «weariness.» The metaphor «labor of love,» then, seems to indicate the constant exercise of «love» to the point of «weariness,» of being «worn out,» or of being «exhausted as from a beating.» The real meaning of this may be hard to contemplate. As the perfect example let us contemplate God’s exercise of His «love» toward mankind. «For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.» (John 3:16). The Biblical account of the constant «labor» of God, from the time of creation through the ages to this present day, to give this gift of «love» to mankind, and the account of the grief that mankind has given to God in constant rejection of the gift, should give us some inkling of the meaning of «labor of love.» Christians will never be able to duplicate God’s «labor of love,» but nevertheless, God’s admonition is for Christians to perform this «labor of love» to the point of «exhaustion or weariness.» This phrase «labor of love» seems to support quite well our use of the analogy of «love» as being a constant, never ending «current flow»in a spiritual system that works on the principle of an electrical circuit.

MEANING OF «STEADFASTNESS OF HOPE.»

In Paul’s phrase «steadfastness of hope,» the word «steadfastness» is translated from the Greek word HUPOMONE, which meant «patience,» «endurance,» or «continuance.» This seems to indicate that God’s gift of «hope» in the Christian life is»enduring» and gives «continuing» help until the «hope» is fulfilled and is no longer needed. In terms of our analogy, «hope» is a sure «product» generated by the «business of faith,» or an enduring «output» caused by the «flow of love» through the «loaded circuit» of one’s Christian life.

«Hope,» then, is far more than a mere wish, but is a substantive spiritual grant to be enjoyed by the soul of the Christian even while he lives on earth, satisfying to the intellect, challenging to the volition, and pleasing to the emotion.

HOW THE TRIUMVIRATE OF «FAITH,» «LOVE,» AND «HOPE» OPERATES IN GOD’S SPIRITUAL SYSTEM.

First, let us list the working parts of the system in which Christians are called upon to exercise their gifts in «good works that God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.» (Ephesians 2:10). The major categories of working parts are:

3. Our brethren in the Lord’s church.

4. All other people of the world.

Each part of this great spiritual system has its own unique part to play in God’s business of saving mankind. God the Father is the great Manager and Enabler. God the Son is the great Creator and Doer who reached out to mankind in the flesh. God the Holy Spirit is the great spiritual Communicator who gives life to mankind and speaks to their personal spirits and souls.

Each person, Christian and non-Christian alike, has been created in the likeness of the triune God with «spirit and soul and body.» The «soul» is the eternal essence of a person, created to self-manage all aspects of the person with exercise of unique intellect, volition, and emotion, all in the likeness of God the Father. The «spirit» provides the person’s communication terminal with the spiritual realm, receiving and transmitting spiritual messages through exercise of communion, conscience, and intuition, in the likeness of God the Holy Spirit. The «body» is a person’s own unique temple for his soul and spirit, created as suitable for God’s physical universe, with provision to be transformed as suitable for God’s wholly spiritual realm. The «body» is created or transformed as necessary for service in a person’s environment, all in the likeness of God the Son, who took on a fleshly body, sacrificed it as He saw the need, and then led the way in receiving it back as a transformed spiritual body.

God’s gifts of «faith» and «love» are attributes of the Godhead which are shared with Christians to accomplish the «good works which God prepared beforehand» that they should do. God gives «hope» in order that Christian laborers may taste the results of their work even while it is being done. «The laborer is worthy of his wages.» (Luke 10:7). The gift of «hope» is evidence that the grace of God provides God’s promised reward for His Christian workers.

Thus, all the working parts are in place. We can now see how the motivating potential («faith») and the current («love») flows from the great Power Source (God the Father) through the great Communication Link (the Holy Spirit) into the active elements (spirits and souls of people «in Christ») to transmit the Gospel to mankind on earth today. In the physical analogy the force of voltage multiplied by the current equals the power developed in the load. Similarly, in God’s spiritual circuit, «faith» multiplied by «love» equals the spiritual power of «hope» developed in the souls of those who receive the gospel.

Faith, Hope, Love – and Wisdom

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit!

I congratulate you all, dear brothers and sisters, with today’s celebration of the memory of the Holy Martyrs Faith, Hope, Love, and their mother, Sophia.

The liturgical texts repeatedly draw our attention to the fact that these holy martyrs’ names repeat the order and titles of the virtues that Holy Scripture sets at the cornerstone: Faith, Hope, and Love. Today, therefore, on the feast day of these holy martyrs, let us give thought to what these virtues mean, what they teach us, and to what they call us.

Holy Scripture itself, when speaking of these virtues, arranges them in ascending order. One grows from one virtue to another: from faith to hope, from hope to love, and then to wisdom. How is this so?

Let us give first attention to faith: what kind of word, what kind of action, is this? We very often use this word, especially in church circles, but we use it just as often outside the Church. We say what we believe in: in ourselves, in our dignity, in our ability, in our talents, in our abilities, and in our success… We also say that we believe in the people around us; we also often believe in imaginary, contrived spiritual mirages and phantoms. We believe (or some of us believe) in signs, in horoscopes, and in Incan predictions about the end of the world… We believe in our politicians… What don’t we believe in! This very quality of faith, therefore, stands in need of clarification.

What should faith be like in order to be authentic? Here we cross over and take another step: to hope. Someone has firm faith only when he finds that his faith is addressed to something living – to something alive, with which he can establish a relationship, with which he can be united.

We discover that we do not only have our intentions about life set out before ourselves, before our conscience, and before those around us, but we also discover a certain response from the side. We discover that our expectations and hopes have a certain foundation in reality: whether the people around us are able to give us an answer back; whether there is something higher to which we appeal, which also responds to our call, our cry, and our tears. Then our faith is strengthened and our hope is enforced. Because if we can have faith in abstract and far-fetched things, then one can sometimes also have false hope – and we can see this. However, for faith to acquire an active character in our life, we need to assign some basis, whether real or invented by us, to that with which we believe we have entered into a relationship; something that can give us an answer, something that can realize our expectations and these plans of ours.

But it turns out that one can also have hope in invented things; one can have unjustified hope. We, who hear the reading of the Holy Psalter at the daily services, need sooner or later to pay attention to those verses in which the Holy Prophet David repeatedly states that a sinful man’s hopes will be confounded. And that only genuine hope will be justified. What is this genuine hope?

It turns out that it is insufficient for our faith if we have established some relationship; it is insufficient for our hope to know that that there will be a response to our call. We need to know that this response will contain attention, that it will contain genuine interest and concern in who we are, in what we are looking for, in what we want, and in what pains us. We discover that hope is only truly strengthened when that object to which we turn this hope cares for us and loves us.

But it turns out that even that is not much. Not only should this object, as I just called it, be able to feel love for us, but we also need to be able to feel love for this subject of our hope, because hope can be unsubstantiated and dictated by our selfish aspirations, egoism, and self-love.

The Holy Fathers also tell us that that hope will be justified that does not have our “I” as its cornerstone. That hope will be justified that is ready to cut off its own selfish interests, that is ready to cut off all that is impure – just like what Holy Scripture writes about hope:

If thou prepare thy heart, and stretch out thy hands toward him: if iniquity be in thy hand, put it far away, and let now wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles. For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot, yea, thou shalt be steadfast, and shalt not fear: because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away: and thy age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, though shalt be as the morning. And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope, yet, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety (Job 11:13-18).

Thus, for our hope to be based in reality; for it neither to weaken nor to become depleted; for it neither to perish nor be destroyed – it is necessary that the person on whom we have placed our hope should love us, and that we should love the object of our hope.

But would it not be true to say that we also daily use this great word, love, in a completely profane and debasing context? Due to our lack of churching or spirituality – or due to our corporality, materiality, and sinfulness – this word brings to mind images of love that are not at all worthy of hope and do not deserve to be lived for.

We talk about passionate love, about love that is ready to take advantage of our neighbors, to make him or her an object of our lust, of our desire, and to see in this person exclusively a source of pleasure for ourselves. We say “I love” as easily in regard to those people closest to us as to pets, food, and art… Through this much-repeated “I love,” we often lose the meaning of the word “love.”

Therefore it turns out to be insufficient simply to have love, and in love to have hope, and to strengthen hope with love – it is essential that all of these, in the words of our contemporary saint, Paisios the Athonite, be crowned, be betrothed, with the queen of all virtues: Sophia, wisdom, prudence – prudence, which will be able to distinguish good from evil.

For we read in the life of the Holy Venerable Anthony the Great that he addresses his disciples with the words: many people have exhausted their body with fasting; many people have sacrificed their health and many years on the altar of their ascetic struggle. But it often happens that, after many years of ascetic struggle, these people fall – because their ascetic struggle was not guided by prudence. It was not wise. Therefore the Holy Fathers call the very crown and queen of all virtues that same wisdom that Holy Scripture, and today’s feast day, places at the end of this enumerated series of virtues.

Let us strive to live in such a way that we would not be mindless in our actions; that we would not be self-assured in our ascetic struggles; that our faith would be tempered by genuine self-sacrifice for the sake of Him for Whose sake we should sacrifice ourselves. Because He showed us how firmly He loves us, that He was ready to give Himself up for our life. Amen.

Why «Faith, Hope, and Love» Are So Important and Will Last Forever

The Purpose of Faith

Faith is one of the first things we learn about as Christians. It often starts with the quote from Jesus in Luke 17:6 where He says, “If you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘May you be uprooted and thrown into the sea,’ and it would obey you!” Hebrews 11:1 gives this clear definition of faith: “Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.”

I remember about a year after getting tattooed experiencing deep regret, almost mourning a part of myself being lost. I was barely 18 years old and working through some missed opportunities of my own personal development. In the shower I would see these tattoos and “wipe” them away along with a faithful prayer. I genuinely believed these Scriptures to be that I had the power and authority to believe something “as hard as I could” and it would be done, even if it meant defying the physical realm. I did this patiently for months before I started to lose hope and I began weeping to God. “Why! I truly believe you could take this from me! Why won’t you do it!?” I was hurt. Ten years later, the tattoos are still there, but I gained the most valuable lesson from this experience.

The purpose of faith is not to influence my own comfort. The purpose of faith is to lead us to know the heart of God and then trust His ways to guide us. It is practical exercise reminding us of our place on the vine. We are the branches, and we can do nothing apart from the vine (John 15:5). Hebrews 11:1 is a great definition of faith, but I believe Hebrews 11:6 gives us the life application of it. It states, “For we come to God in faith knowing that He is real and that He rewards the faith of those who passionately seek Him.” (TPT)

The Purpose of Hope

Hope is defined by Google as “a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen.” It can also be defined as “a feeling of trust.” So faith is the belief that there is something better to seek, while hope is the expectation, or the certainty, that it is there. Hope is the fuel that keeps faith alive in our quest to find love.

The way that faith, which is the seeking of the Lord, connects with hope, which is the expectation of finding Him, is through wisdom. Proverbs 24:14 says, “In the same way, wisdom is sweet to your soul. If you find it, you will have a bright future, and your hopes will not be cut short.” Jesus is our model of constantly seeking wisdom. Often in our spiritual development, we hit a place of complacency where we are good with what we have. It is a great thing to be grateful, but there is more for your life when you continually seek wisdom. At each level we should be graduating, moving, and growing, constantly adding to what we understand. This is what keeps hope alive. As we seek more, we learn more, and we store up confidence in who we are on the vine. In Luke 2:52 we get a subtle, yet powerful, picture of Jesus’ character that reveals the foundation of his influence and confidence. It says, “Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.” Jesus is our leader and we should follow his lead by constantly seeking wisdom and relationship with others.

The Purpose of Love

Paul makes it very clear in 1 Corinthians 13:13 that the greatest of all spiritual gifts is love. Based on this, we know that love is the result that we see of our faith and our hope. Love is the goal. How wonderful is it to understand the goal! When you start a new game, the biggest hurdle is often obtaining an understanding more than physical limitations. If you understand the goal, you can use what you have to get there.

The purpose of love is evident in 1 John 4:7-8 that it is the clearest picture of God that we have. It states, “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” It goes on to say in verse 19 that “we love because God first loved us.” So the purpose of love is twofold. First, it is revelation of identity. It tells us who God is and who we are in God.

Second, it is the very power that allows us to do the work of Jesus and even greater works as Jesus described in John 14:12. He says, “Whoever believes in me will also do the works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.” Love has the power to help us believe again and restore hope in others. It is the engine that drives our spiritual lives.

Faith, Hope, and Love: The Perpetual Cycle of Life

If faith, hope, and love are the things that last forever, it becomes clear that these are the things we should pursue with our lives. Some may feel concerned at the thought of knowing what the end goal is, that perhaps there is no point to life if there is nothing left to discover. But there is life in these things that will never run out!

In the beginning, we are born with no other understanding besides faith. As babies, we naturally seek care and to be nurtured. We confidently look for someone to give us the care that we need. As we earn the badges of life, we become scarred by experiences that strip our faith and our hope away, and in turn, we forget our natural instinct to love as we become consumed with finding a new starting point.

Finding faith, hope, and love for ourselves does not mark the end of anything. It can mark the beginning for someone else. If you have ever been in a broken place, you know the power of someone else showing you kindness or believing in you. When you are shown love, you ignite a new belief of what you could be. Then you become hopeful that there is still good in this world. Then you love yourself. Then you share love with others and spark this cycle over and over again. This is our beginning, our new beginnings, and our forever, both for us and our fellow man.

A Prayer for Faith, Hope, and Love

We can start with this prayer from 2 Corinthians 1:3-4: “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.”

God, thank you for loving me. Thank you for starting my cycle of life and giving me the wisdom needed to walk with you. I pray that I will continually be interested in wisdom so that my hope cannot be cut off. I pray that as I stay full, I will look for ways to carry out your work to help someone else in need. Amen.

Goals for 2021

2020 was a rough year. I hope 2021 will be much better.

2020 had many challenges. I felt very stressed and anxious. I went on medication that has helped. I still need to learn how to cope so I can learn to be more resilient to changes.

Making my body more compliant to do what I am supposed to do is my number one goal this year.

Freaking out body has been my biggest problem this year. For the first half of the year I was aggressive towards others when I got stressed. I would grab and scratch people. I did not want to do it but this is how my body acted automatically when stressed.

In September I started propranolol and Lexapro for anxiety. Propranolol kept me from having fight or flight responses. This helped me tremendously. I stopped being aggressive. It made me more relaxed because i was no longer attacking others and hurting them.

My latest problem is getting paralysis. I lose functional movement at times. I cannot make my body obey. I hate when it happens.

People think I am being willfully resistant, like I am having a battle of wills with them. I am not trying to disobey people. My body gets stuck. It gets unstuck on its own. But the more demands there are the more it keeps being stuck.

I understand how frustrating this is for everyone around me. I think it causes lots of power struggles. I know I have to do something and I plan to do it once I can.

In 2021 my goal is to have my body be better behaved. I want it to be calm and well mannered. I want it to listen and obey what it should. I want it to stop freaking out. I want it to stop freezing.

I think I will try to get back to exercising. I want to work on handwriting. I should pray and read Bible everyday. I want to get back to writing more. I hope I can meet my goals this year.

Pandemic Schedule

The coronavirus pandemic really tested my nerves. Lately, I am getting better with not letting my anxieties get the best of me. The lockdown from March to June was scary for me. I was not able to feel calm. I was too worried that someone I loved would get sick. I got worried I might get sick. I wanted to try to have a more positive outlook but seeing the news everyday got to be very distressing. Many people were getting sick and dying. I stayed at home every day. I got really messed up. My aggression got more difficult to control. I was grabbing anyone who came too near me just because I felt mad and anxious.

Problems with my aggression and anxiety were getting so bad. I felt depressed because I was a hardship on my family and I could not stop myself from getting more treacherous to deal with. The worst was panicking in the car and grabbing the driver of the car. I was my lowest in June. I could barely do anything.

Mom researched how to help me. Mom has been helping me by doing things to help me feel less anxious. Mom reads me a chapter in the Bible every morning. I love hearing it and talking about it. Then I practice handwriting to answer questions about what we read. Then we pray. Hearing the Bible helps me hear God’s voice so I can be more connected to His peace.

I have learned to quiet myself with meditation. Sometimes we listen to a meditation app to guide us. It is relaxing.

Then I do my neurodevelopmental movement program and my Special-Fit exercises. It helps me feel more control over my body so my crazy impulses don’t surface as much. I lift weights because it is supposed to help me be more tolerant to stress. I feel good having exercise as a daily routine.

I eat lunch next. I have been doing the ketogenic diet to help me with my anxiety. I eat salad or eggs for lunch. It is bearable. I don’t get my goldfish or grapes but I can still eat berries and cauliflower pizza. I take a probiotic. Looks like my health is getting better. I am slowly getting better. I feel calmer and happier. I get more restful sleep and energy with being on this diet.

In the afternoon I ride my bike. I watch TV. I visit my grandparents. I might write a little. Every Monday I see my friend Brielle on Zoom. We have a Bible study. Her Uncle Terry teaches us. I love getting to participate. Brielle and me get to share our thoughts. Fear that I had about covid-19 gets less as I get more close to God by hearing His word.

At night I have a healthy dinner with my family at the table. I make myself eat everything that is served. I have tried new foods like salmon, cashews, broccoli, and snap peas. I never would have tried these before.

After dinner I help with cleaning up the dishes. Sometimes I throw out the trash. Then I go on another bike ride, listen to piano, or watch TV with my family.

That is my daily pandemic schedule. Making a schedule with healthy habits is helping me to get through the pandemic.

Sadness and happiness are discrete. They do no stay at a similar place for a long duration.

If you are feeling unhappy today. If you are feeling that the time is suffocating you. Your thoughts are only wondering about the unpleasant memories. Don’t worry, it will pass. Happiness and sadness are the two faces of a coin. Coins flip. You will find the way. You will realize what’s important for you. You will understand your heart.

I can understand that you are feeling alone. All your friends and special ones have left you to suffer. You are feeling left out and there is no one you can tell about your heart. They will not understand. You somehow pass the days but the nights are difficult to pass. You often cry. You kept staring at the unknown places.

I understand that this time is difficult to pass. I want to tell you that your heart will heal. Change is the only constant. One year from now, you will be looking backward and you will be proud of yourself for being so strong. This time will teach you the most vital lessons of your life. You will recognize the people you can rely on.

If you cannot explain your emotions, it’s okay. We cannot explain everything. Being sad isn’t always about being a broken person. Stop being so harsh on yourself. Take it one day at a time. Let this process be a slow process. Allow your mind to observe and reflect on the essentials. There is no rush.

We are together in this. My heart goes to every person out there. I can feel your pain. We will fight together. Our journey is a long one. But we do not have to be scared. This shall pass too. We shall overcome. Smile. You can always vent out here in my space.

She is the girl who loves sky and moon more than anything else. The rain gives her vibes. She can sit quietly on a rooftop looking at the clear sky. She is happy with her thoughts. She doesn’t need anything to be happy but nature. She likes to read books. She doesn’t like kindle. She is a mountain person.
She doesn’t care about modern love. She is an old school. She only thinks of the person she loves. There are no doubts about her love. Being in love, she is clear of her feelings. She is honest about everything she feels and she says. There is no comparison of her love. You can find her smiling alone thinking about her lover.

She likes music. Her taste in music is different. She doesn’t like the mainstream noisy songs. She calms her mind with music. She likes to walk on empty roads. She likes to look at the stars. She finds the handwritten letters better than the texts.
She looks at the soul of a person. She is not judgemental of your looks or anything else. She closes her eyes when she smiles and it is so cute. She talks with enthusiasm. She falls for the smile and the eyes that contain a thousand stories.

Her childish smile is the most wonderful thing you can ever find. She asks a lot of stupid questions too. You have to handle her on her bad days. There will be days when she will push you away. You have to take care of her with love. She doesn’t want anything from you but love. Love her and she will make you the happiest person. Do not ever let go of her.

There is no driving force as strong as Love. In this world full of hatred and pity, choose love whenever you get to choose. As a great man once said, «Love wins, always». And I am not talking about the love between the couples, Love is broad and I believe it shouldn’t be tied to a person or anything. It is love that helps a heart to grow. A heart, full of love, blooms while a heart full of hatred always feels jealous, self-pity, and remains dull and unhappy. It gives hope and balances the fast-moving life.

There can be a variety of reasons that can make you a person full of self-doubts, anxiety, and hatred, but always choose to look at the bright side and have different perspectives because most of the time, the problem doesn’t look from a distance as bigger as we react in that period. It feels better when you grow out of the situation rather than reacting in a way that it hurts both you and your family. Self-love always helps in these situations.

There will be people that will make you feel like you are being utilized because you have a good heart. Don’t change yourself because of those people. Be conscious of how much you give to a person, but don’t lose your beautiful heart that knows how to love. Because the world is turning into a place where being cold is celebrated. I am afraid that in this trend, people find it extremely tough to remain honest about their situations which is alarming because if we don’t vent out, we suffer.

We should be more welcoming and give comfortable space to people where they can feel safe about their feelings. The least we can do is to stop judging and listen. Vulnerability has become so common these days, yet we wander everywhere protecting our feelings with a tough outer cover. We should be treating everyone around us with love.

It’s time to become selfish | Aman Raghav

You have spent enough of your time for others. You have always cared for their opinions, for their well being that you have hurt yourself in the process. You are shattered. You have trust issues.

The one regret that most of us have is that we spent our life not for us but according to others. We never thought enough about ourselves. And regrets are the worst things to have.

You have come a long way ahead. There were people you did everything for, yet they left. They once meant the world to you. You think about them and you ask questions. You regret. You keep thinking about all the efforts you put in. You were ready to leave everything.

It changed you. It has shaped you into the person that has trust issues now. They ask you why don’t you open up. You only smile. They do not know the complete story. They only know about the person who doesn’t believe in love. They don’t know about the person who was once madly in love.

I know that there are nights when everything comes to you at once. And you think of all the things that went wrong. You regret because you lost your self-esteem in the process. You lost everything. Yet you didn’t get anything but pain in return. They are lessons now.

Apart from everything, this is the time to become selfish and think about yourself. Do what makes you happy. This is the time to live your life according to yourself. Take your decisions. Work on yourself.

You are not alone in this process. We can work together. I care for you. I am with you in this journey.

Set your boundaries | Aman Raghav

There will be people who will be available to you according to their needs. They will leave you whenever you will be in need and they will come back as if nothing has happened. The problems are created when you love them. You get hurt in the process. You get confused. Often, you do not know how to react.

I hope you handle the situation bravely. I hope you are choosing yourself every time and setting your boundaries clearly. You are not an old home that can be visited only in need. You need clarity in life. These confusions only destroy you slowly.

I hope you understand the value of good people around you. They are everything you need. I hope you are comfortable enough to be yourself around your people. They will help you to get out of every situation. You will not feel alone. Good people back you and bring the best out of you.

The boundaries you set for your sanity are not wrong. If you are being told to settle for any less, don’t listen. You don’t deserve any toxicity. Keeping things simpler only helps us. I hope you are strong enough to stay firm on your decisions.

We are only humans. We can make mistakes and it doesn’t mean that we will live our life according to that mistake. Forget it and move on with your life. Don’t allow negativity. Create your space and allow only those people to enter into it who are ready to be with you in your ups and downs. You do not need temporary homes anymore.

Letting go is not easy | Aman Raghav

I understand that it is not easy to let it go. It is not easy to forget everything that we have believed all our life to be true. I understand that there are sleepless nights thinking about that person we have always believed to be our soulmate. It really affects the way we think. We tend to blame love. We start to believe that the world is not a good place to live in. We start hating couples. We start hating to go outside. We start searching for peace everywhere but our hearts.

Trust me, it happens to all of us at some point in our life. You are not alone. And you really don’t have to fight this battle alone. You have friends, family, and other people who have felt exactly how you are feeling right now. They have won the battles, you can too. The battle is a long one. We just can’t wake up one day and start feeling better. It happens one day at a time. We win small battles with ourselves before winning the wars. It starts with gratitude. It starts with being grateful to life for whatever it has given to us. It starts with talking to friends. It starts from withing before anywhere else. No one can make us feel better if we are not ready to be happy from inside.

Trust yourself before it’s too late. This is the right time to take decisions in the right direction. You just cannot sit and wait for the day when everything will be alright. Take care of yourself.

In this journey, if you ever need anyone to talk to, if you ever feel like giving up, if you ever feel like you don’t know whether you are right or not, you can always talk to me. My DMs are always open. Thank you for being so kind. Now it’s the time to be kind with yourself.

I wanted to give this letter as a handwritten letter with fresh flowers. I will do that someday too.

I feel like you are a person of flowers and cold breeze. It’s those vibes for me. You’re sunshine. You are a person of bravery, hope, and someone who stands tall. You defeat every odd. I love how you give yourself time.

2020 was a bit tough for you and I feel a bit bad about it. You were harsh with yourself. I hope this year will be better.

I appreciate your patience and the way you take care of your loved ones. You surely make everything lighter and full of colors.

You have all the capabilities to turn everything you into gold. You have infinite potential. What you require is self-belief. Sometimes you lack confidence in your decisions which can turn a good decision into a bad one. You cannot always categorize a decision as a bad one or a good one. There are shades of grey. Those decisions need to be watered well. Always back your decisions. You aren’t less than any person and it’s not late yet.

There will be moments when you will have self-doubt for all of us feel so at some point in our life. This is where you have to hold your head high. This is where you have to tell yourself to keep working. This is where you will need yourself more than anyone. I hope you will trust your instincts. I hope you will not allow those self-doubts to vanish all the hard work.

I love how you never complain and go on with life. Sending you love, hope, and happiness.
