Текст песни The Little Things In Life (Irving Berlin) с переводом
Great big houses with great big rooms
Were not fashioned for brides and grooms
A little place is where we should be Great big troubles and great big cares
Come from houses with marble stairs
A little place for you and for me Just a little room or two can more than do a little man and wife
That’s if they’re contented with the little things in life
Living on a larger scale would soon entail a lot of care and strife
We could be so happy with the little things in life
A little rain, a little sun, a little work, a little fun
A little time for loving when the day is done
And a little thing that cries for lullabies could make a man and wife
Tell the world how much they love the little things in life
Перевод песни The Little Things In Life
80 Little Things in Life That Make You Happy
All too often we take the little things in our life for granted. We are merely aware of these elements in our life but we seldom take the time to appreciate them. Let’s have a look at the little things that make life truly worth living.
In many cases, it can be really difficult to (re-)discover the true beauty of the little things in our lives. We are so heavily occupied with the pursuit of ever more that we are no longer content with what we already have.
“It has long been an axiom of mine that the little things are infinitely the most important.”
Arthur Conan Doyle
We no longer pause the pursuit in order to reflect on the joy and happiness all the wonderful aspects of our lives – no matter how small – bring us.
The more simple pleasures you discover in your life, the happier you’ll get.
Instead of being able to experience happiness in this very moment, we are – more often than not – postponing our happiness. In fact, we often make our happiness dependent on the outcome of certain events. In falsely assuming that the accomplishment of certain goals (wealth, fame, status, power, etc.) will add great amounts of happiness to our lives, we give away our control over our happiness.
The Beauty of the Little Things in Life
The pursuit of happiness makes us strive for more all the time. And once we’ve accomplished a certain goal that promised great happiness, we are already pursuing the next one.
This kind of attitude focuses our attention on the things we do not have and tricks us into believing that by adding these things to our lives, happiness will emerge. It is a way of thinking that makes it quite difficult to be quite happy in the present moment. Similarly, it can result in greater levels of discontent when we are not able to attain what we desire.
It also shifts our attention far away from the present moment and all the beautiful joys that can be found in it.
The ability to draw happiness from the little things in life also has a lot to do with gratitude. If you are able to center your attention on all the beautiful aspects that are already to be found in your life, you will become a much more grateful person.
“The small things of life were often so much bigger than the great things… The trivial pleasure like cooking, one’s home, little poems especially sad ones, solitary walks, funny things seen and overheard.”
Barbara Pym
Being grateful for the little things is a unique skill to not only be content with your life but also to be less dependent on the outcome of external circumstances.
It marks the first step towards discovering the true source of happiness which lies within.
80 Little Things in Life That Make You Happy
If you need a little inspiration for discovering all the magnificently beautiful little things in your life then have a look at the following. Enjoy this collection of the truly beautiful little things in life that make life worth living.
These ideas are a great place to start with.
All it takes is the awareness to take note of all the beautiful little things in your life. You can always rush through life without looking right or left. But you can also pause for a moment to appreciate the beauty of a simple pleasure you’ve just came across.
If you become more aware of the joyful little things in your life, your life will become much more pleasant. These seemingly little things hold the magnificent power to turn gray and stressful days into days that are a little bit better.
To maximize the power of the little things that give you joy, see if you can bring more of them into your day-to-day life. The more of these joys that you can include in your daily routine, the more pleasant will your days become.
Say, for instance, you are an avid reader of novels who loves nothing more than drinking a good cup of coffee. You could start your day by taking a little bit more time for breakfast so that you can read a little longer in your favorite novel while drinking a cup of freshly brewed coffee. Bake a couple of croissants in your oven and eat them with your favorite jelly.
Right after your breakfast, take a warm shower and enjoy the relaxing feeling of the water on your skin.
When you drive to work, listen to your favorite audiobook or continue reading in your novel if you’re going by train. Once you have arrived at work, be sure to regularly make a pause during which you treat yourself to something nice. After you’ve finished working, watch one of your favorite movies or take a bath.
See what I mean? Simply arrange for all the simple pleasures that you enjoy to become permanent aspects of your regular routine.
It does not even take much time to include these little things in your life. They are more often than not free or cheap, can be enjoyed in many places independent of the time, and can brighten your entire day.
Never underestimate the great power of including many of these joyful little things in your life. Taking the time to enjoy just a couple of them can quickly fill you with feelings of happiness and satisfaction.
You don’t even have to limit yourself to the 80 simple pleasures that I’ve outlined in the above. Instead, create your own list with all the magnificent little things in your life that you enjoy. It doesn’t even matter how many of these simple pleasures you find at the time of writing the list. Simply consider the entire list a work in progress that you can add one simple joy after another once you rediscovered them.
Creating such a list can be quite helpful. Not only will it help you to remind yourself of all the fantastic little things in your life, but it will also assist you in including more of them into your daily routines.
Reflecting on the little things in life when also help you to understand that life provides you with so many little and free ways to create happiness. All that matters is whether or not you allow yourself to enjoy these simple pleasures. Most people let these chances go by unused as their entire focus is directed towards the future. Don’t be such a person. Don’t become someone who postpones happiness for far too long.
Everything in the above has shown you that happiness is a choice. You can create happiness from even the tiniest and smallest things in life. But if you are always seeking for the big things in life, you will never be able to fully appreciate the simple pleasures of your life.
I hope you enjoyed this article about the beauty of the little things in life. We’re excited to hear from you about the little things in your life you are grateful for. Let us know in the comment section below.

Текст песни Little Things In Life (Green On Red) с переводом
Before I met you baby
The little things in life just passed me by
The sound of children’s laughter
The tune to some forgotten lullaby
I was out of town on business
Back when i had no place to call my home
I was arrrested by your beauty
We locked into a cell of all our own
You know i love you baby
Ah honey what else could i do?
So let me know if there’s anything
Just anything i can do for you
When i was just a youngster
I collected crazy songs in my head
Yeah the scene from ‘the night porter’
A broken jelly jar crushed by the bed
Yes at times our love was fragile
Like a hand me down watch that slows down when its old
But our love could last forever
Like a sacred ring of precious stones and gold
Before I met you baby
The little things in life just passed me by
The color of the twilight
The reflection of my smile in your eyes
Перевод песни Little Things In Life
Why Little Things in Life Matter the Most
Table of Contents
To be happy, make your life easy. Breakdown your goals into small chunks, develop healthy habits and improve your life by doing small things daily. Mastering smaller things in life will have a compound impact and you’ll get a turbo boost in your life. Here’s more about why little things in life matter the most and the six things that you should start focusing on right away.
You’re cast into this big ball of blue. Filled with curiosity, you explore the world, the people you live with, and yourself as days pass. Soon you come across this concept called goals.
The idea of exhausting yourself to reach some arbitrary standard – it’s here that you’re carried away by the big picture.
Your fantasies of becoming a famous basketball player or CEO fail despite your best intentions. What could be worse than failing to reach your dreams?
Tying happiness to the success you aim to achieve by pulping the last drop of life out of you.
I’ve got an argument to make: “Little things in life matter the most.” Focusing on little things helps you achieve your goals and contributes to your happiness.
Habits
Have you ever set big goals with complicated plans, but never even get past step one?
The problem with goals is that they’re often huge and may become overwhelming. But habits are small, easy to do, provide a surge of motivation every day.
For instance, it’s unrealistic to try to learn touch typing all letters in a single day. But the daily practice of typing 30 minutes per day is far more tangible and doesn’t cause burnout.
English novelist Anthony Tropelle wrote a quarter of every hour. He sets a timer for fifteen minutes and writes around 250 words.
Fifteen minutes now and then throughout the day. That’s it. Using this technique, he’s been able to publish 40+ books, several works of non-fiction, and a few plays.
Though typing thirty-minutes each day isn’t anything to brag about, it builds up.
You’re more likely to fail if you plan to write a book or become a CEO. Break them down into little chunks, achieving them becomes more comfortable.
It’s those little consistent acts that matter the most.
Relationships
Weddings and fancy vacations are the glamorous parts of our life. You reckon it’s these moments that make us happier. But the little moments matter the most.
Calling your old friend, making a cup of coffee for your spouse when you make one for yourself or celebrating your 9-year-old’s victory in an ice-cream parlour. These little moments amount to a lot.
The next time you go to work, try smiling at the watchman as you enter. You are immediately put atop of a pedestal in his heart amidst a dozen others who walk away as if he didn’t exist.
Marriages and vacations are one-time events. But the consistent act of taking care of your friends and family, making time for them – it’s these moments that matter the most.
Identity
Our identity inflates with our goals. Talented artist, successful businessman are examples of inflated identities. You think you rise to the level of your personal identity.
But these identities never make us happy.
But having little and mundane identities makes you happier in the long run. Instead of trying to become a successful businessman – become a guy who is curious about business.
When you stack many of these boring identities, you become better. For example, instead of having an identity like – I’m a successful businessman, with tons of money, who also has an athletic body, create identities like – I’m a guy who is curious about business, money management, and works out thrice a week. I’m also kind, hard-working and put friends, and family above everything else.
The latter identity;
Because your behaviour adjusts based on your identities, and broad identities always tend to overwhelm you, a small shift to a mundane identity makes a difference.
The Boring Parts of Our Life
You wish you could live in the happy moments of your lives forever – Holidays, Road trips, or Weddings. But you often underestimate the importance of the boring parts of your life.
Sleep, Self-discipline, Money management, taming your distractions, personal hygiene… these are the unsexy parts of your life that make us better. Getting good quality sleep is nothing to be proud of, but it’s these little things that make us better.
Money management is monotonous. But without it, even a million bucks would seem trivial.
Lack of proper financial skills is akin to a hole in a ship. And getting a larger ship never solves the problem. Fixing the holes does. Here’s another example. Nobody likes you regardless of your Gucci belts and Rolex watches if you smell bad. Personal hygiene is an ordinary yet dominating aspect of our life.
Author Mark Manson mentioned; improving your life is not hard, just repeat these every day for years.
This makes it simple.
You overlook the smaller yet-meaningful moments aspiring for the big ones.
Little things and compound interest go hand in hand
In commerce, there’s a concept called compound interest. It works the following way.
Our life works based on the concept of compound interest.
Learning to take care of your body and personal hygiene are time-investments that you put in to reap the rewards. Now add in money-management and mental health.
The principal amount increases, and your reward increases. Invest more and more little things in yourself, your self-worth raises at an exponential rate with time, down the road.
These small efforts compound over time leads to great results.
Smaller things in life often overlap with each other
Getting a promotion provides momentary happiness. But little things in life overlap with each other.
Say you work on your body for becoming fit. Besides becoming healthy, you are energetic, feel good about yourself, and look attractive. Consider another example:
You work on improving your social skills to make new friends. Besides making friends, you speak with confidence (especially on dates), become a great negotiator (a valuable skill in business), your relationships deepen, and there’s a lesser chance of miscommunication.
Working on a single skill impacts many fields. What if you double down working on mastering the smaller things of life? You get a turbo boost in your life.
Why should you let go of improving something that has several benefits?
What happens when you avoid the smaller things
Avoiding the small things in life accumulate like debt and impact you in the long run. Failing to get a job promotion or win a tournament is one thing.
But if you ignore smaller things, like personal hygiene, you’re never going to work there in the first place.
Avoiding working on smaller things impacts several fields at the same time. Lack of personal hygiene hurts your relationships, your career, and your ability to make new friends. It’s going to pile on top of one another ready to crush you down your throat on one fine morning.
You don’t want to genocide many facets of your life. Do you?
6 Small Things You Should Start Focusing on Right Away
We’ve been talking about focusing on the smaller things, but where should you start?
Personal Hygiene
If you think you take care of your personal hygiene, let me ask you a few questions.
When was the last time you flossed? How about cleaning your tongue? I doubt you wash the dirty area behind your ears. How healthy is your hair?
The point of this is not to call out people as dirty couch potatoes. But to realize that we don’t know a lot about personal hygiene. I didn’t. Start learning about taking care of yourself, you’ll find yourself attractive.
Health (Exercise, Diet and Sleep)
Sleep at least 7 – 8 hours a day. It rejuvenates your body like nothing else. A year back, I was a typical workaholic. Sleeping less than 5 hours left me depressed and sad all time. But my life improved as I slept a lot more.
Also workout or play a sport at least 3 times per week. It refuels you full of life. Cut back on junk and make sure to eat your veggies.
Social Skills
This opens you up to a wide variety of opportunities. Becoming a good communicator helps you deepen relationships and communicate well in general.
Public Etiquette
How should you behave in restaurants? Should you gobble as soon as your food comes or should you wait? What should you do if food sticks to your teeth? These are small things that are fun knowing. And public etiquette includes restaurants, meetings, offices, and a lot more.
Body Language
Did you know that walking with a straight back conveys confidence? About 50% of what we communicate is through body language. So it’s worth developing.
Money Management
Something they fail to teach in schools. We’re often pushed into this world without the slightest idea of money. Should you spend it all or should you save it? What about investing? This is an invaluable skill that plays a crucial role in how well you live your life.
Wrapping up
There’s nothing wrong with having big goals but never ignore the smaller things in life. Because smaller things;
Master the boring parts of your life, sculpt them one-block at a time. Good things will follow over time. Take a peek into the following list and identify areas you could improve upon.
Embrace the little things in life and become better.

The Little Joys In Life
Life is funny, isn’t it? No matter how hard you try, you won’t get full control. As a matter of fact, it mostly remains unexpected. Indeed, you can never be fully prepared. Some times, surprises are unpleasant, some other times, they are great. Also, more than often, it is the little joys in life that matter. Taken separately, they might seem insignificant but combined all together, they make life great.
25 littles joys in life
I listed those little joys that make me happy. They are tiny insignificant things but they do make life amazing in an instant. Those smalls things that can brighten up a shit day within seconds!
1. Biking in the sun, hair in the wind.
2. Baking delicious treats.
3. Treating myself to some new books.
4. Receiving a text from him.
5. Rocking that new jumpsuit with confidence.
6. Finding a new gem of a novel.
7. Planning trips away with him.
8. Drinking spritz in the sun.
9. Diving my hands in a bag of grains.
10. Walking barefoot in the grass.
11. Seeing him.
12. Taking time off for myself.
13. Securing a new collaboration.
14. Daring a bit more everyday.
15. Driving.
16. Meeting new bloggers.
17. Spending time with him.
18. Working on improving the blog.
19. The thought of Gingembre moving in with me soon.
20. Going for a run once in a blue moon.
21. Shooting outfits with Ana.
22. Meeting my friends for drink.
23. Having good laughs at work.
24. Spending time with my family.

Dear Daisy, It is your first day at school.
Super Easy Meringue Kisses: Valentines Baking Ideas
As you can probably tell baking is one way I am passing the time during lock down! I have always loved baking but tend to dip in and out of it. A friend asked me to start sharing some recipes and I have been doing over on the Grazing Brew Box and thought I may as well here too.
I have also thought meringue was tricky and that there must be a knack to it. These meringue kisses look super impressive but are actually really easy to make. If you’ve made meringue before then you will know it’s just a case of whipping your egg whites and then slowly adding your caster sugar.
There are various ways to add colour but you need to be sure to use a paste colouring not a liquid form. Sugar Flair colourings are great for this. You can either add some colour in when mixing your meringues (not if you have a liquid colouring as it will ruin your meringue and it won’t stiffen) or to paint your piping bag! It depends if you want a block colour or swirls.
In the photos below I twirled some into the finished meringue mix loosely to leave stains if you like and then painted the piping bag too! It came out pretty intense which is exactly what I wanted!
Of course if you are going for a valentines look then red is the key!
2 cups of caster sugar
How to make your Meringue Kisses
Preheat your oven to around125C FAN
Have you caught up with my super goey NYC Nutella filled cookies recipe yet?
The Most scrumptious Nutella Filled NYC Style Cookies
If you are anything like me then you have been hunting for super easy Cookie Recipes to smash during lockdown, maybe with the kids, maybe just for yourself!
This recipe is an old favourite of ours and one that I do at least monthly, it is pretty much fail proof and always goes down well! I love a thin cookie but I absolutely love a filled cookie recipe and even better than that, a New York Style Cookie! I meannnnnn. How could you not?
People often think these may be be a little complicated to bake, but actually they’re super easy!
You have to be a little more prepared for when you are going to do them as you have to freeze the chocolate sauce into mini portions to pop inside the cookies, but that’s it!
* Nutella frozen into little portions (My recipe usually makes around 10 but I like them BIG)
175 g Light Brown Sugar or Coconut sugar (slightly healthier. )
1 tsp Vanilla Essence (The better quality the nicer they will be!)
275 g Self Raising Flour
Small pinch of Salt
200 g Chunks of Chocolate (I use a mix of Milk and Dark but any is good!)
Pop dollops of your chocolate spread or Nutella onto a lined tray, and freeze till solid. The smaller they ae, the quicker they will freeze!
Preheat your oven to 190C/170C Fan, you are going to want to cook them on a middle shelf.
Beat together the Butter and Sugar until as fluffy as possible, and then pop in your essence and Egg and beat again till smooth. Please note Coconut sugar doesn’t go as fluffy as other varieties so don’t panic!
Add all of the other dry ingredients in to the wet mix. Make sure it is well combined.
Next choose how big you want you cookies to be, you want them pretty standardized so they cook well. If I am doing for the kids an ice scream scoop is the perfect size to portion out. If I am doing for all of us or friends then GO BIG!
Roll your dough gently into a ball and flatten the dough slightly so it goes a bit flatter, and add a frozen Nutella piece to the middle and then ensure the dough goes all around it. Careful not to over work your dough though.
Line your baking trays with baking paper or grease if you don’t have any. Your cookies will spread a bit whilst baking, so spread them out well on the tray.
Lockdown 3.0: Coping Strategies
And here we go again.
On NYE I sat and wrote the first blog post I had got around to in some time, thanks Covid! And yet here I am again, back in lock down. How awful is it that it feels almost normal now a days to not see anyone for weeks on end? To not get out of the house except for the daily walk and to pop for some essential groceries?
Unsplash Photos: Glen Carrie |
Anyway, this isn’t our first rodeo! I thought I would share a couple of coping tactics that I have picked up along the way that I definitely helping me out this time around. I would love to hear of your own coping strategies if I have missed any and should be doing them! The coronavirus pandemic has been hard for lots of us, for lots of various reasons and all that we can do to help one another right now has to be a win!
Mind says «Coping is our ability to respond to, and deal with, unpleasant, difficult or stressful situations. Our ability to cope with things can vary – we can cope well one day, and poorly the next» and this couldn’t be more true for myself.
1. Look for something positive in each and every day. At the end of each day when the little ones are tucked up in their bed and I get that moment to take a deep breath and turn on the tops to a very hot bath I like to remind myself of something positive from the day. Some days this is easier said than done, but there is ALWAYS something. Maybe it is that the kids got their set work done without too much fuss, maybe that huge pile of laundry got put away, perhaps you spoke to a friend or family member, maybe you got 5 minutes too pick up a book or just sit outdoors with a hot cuppa.
2. Get outside. Again I appreciate this isn’t always an easy option for everyone. But IF you can then get out. In doesn’t have to be a huge, long hike (Boris won’t let us anyway hey!) but just a 5 minute walk around the block can help so much. I even find just wondering about the garden with my cup of tea helps me clear my mind a little. And my 2 kids have to get out once a day or they are at one another’s throats all day long, it seems that they forget any tension as soon as they are out. They can be free and I don’t need to shout at them or restrict them! We often just walk up to a muddy old field where they can just be free and kids for half an hour, let their imaginations run free. And I can have 10 minutes to just observe and be still.
3. Feel productive. Each morning I write a list. I have to admit I love a list and I love getting pen to paper, although I know it isn’t for everyone. For me I like to write a list purely for the reasons of ticking it off and feeling accomplished. It is a feeling that I like and gives me real satisfaction. I do it for my day job but I also do it for generic things such as post letters, do the ironing, walk the dog, call mum, anything that I know will make me feel productive.
4. Talk to People. Yes, we can’t physically see them but we have great social media now which means they are just a tap of a button a way. I am lucky in that my day job means I speak to people all day long but it is also good for me to put time aside to talk to friends and family. Make a conscious effort to pick up your phone and call family and friends, it is all too easy to lock yourself away and become lonely. You could even create a habit or routine out of it, such as having a morning coffee with a family member, virtually of course. If you have the facility to do this over a video call, then even better. I often sit and have a coffee break with someone from work, or call my mum during my lunch break so I can see her and have a catch up.
5. Cut out the noise. This has been a big one for me this time around. As much as I love social media and I am a visual person and love scrolling and procrastinating, but sometimes the clutter of all those notifications becomes too much. The endless messages and posts were almost starting to become expectations and competitions and no one else was setting them for me, just myself. I found by coming off a few WhatsApp groups and limiting my social media usage, for example I have removed the Facebook app off my phone then I started to feel free, like I had more time, and no one was expecting anything from me. This is very much my personality traits though and you may be very different. I love social media but the endless scrolling was not doing me any favours! Especially when home schooling was top of the agendas!
So they are just my top 5! I would love to hear what else you have been doing to help yourself this time around. I of course am still a HUGE fan of a hot, long bath and the odd bar of chocolate with a trashy series, (Oh, Hello Bridergton!) but these are other steps I have taken to survive this next few months!
The Little Things In Life…
The little things in life matter most. However, we get so caught up in the big moments that we don’t see them.
In today’s fast-paced, forward-thinking world, it’s easy to forget about the little things in life. People get so consumed with the big house, the flashy car, and the million dollar dream, that they forget to relish in the happiness that the little things in life bring.
The big things are great, but I have found that the simplest of things in life have made me the happiest. Dr. Glenn Williams, a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Nottingham Trent University, says, “An effective route to happiness is not necessarily through experiencing major events. Rather it is the small, and often unexpected pleasures in life that can help us build more meaningful lives.”
In the words of Ferris Bueller, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you might miss it.” Are you ready to learn 7 ways that you can start valuing the little things in life?

Do you pay attention to the little things in life?
Too often we become obsessed with achieving big goals in life. However, we forget that all of those big goals are comprised of hundreds of small decisions that lead to the result that we are after.
Don’t get me wrong, having big goals that you work towards is really important. However, if you get too caught up in the final destination, you will ignore the journey. As Bruce Burton said, “Sometimes when I consider what tremendous consequences come from little things, I am tempted to think there are no little things.”
We underestimate the power of a small gesture of kindness, a loving embrace, a smile from a stranger, or words of compassion These little things in life tend to have a ripple effect. A single drop of water can create a wave of change, and so can you.
You don’t have to do something monumental in order to change your life or the life of someone else.
We’ve been conditioned to believe that the ordinary things in life are boring and uninspiring, which is why we tend to live for the big moments. We are inundated with messages like, “Think big!” However, when you adopt the mindset that big is better than small, you fail to notice that life is comprised of a series of small magical moments.
If you neglect to enjoy the little things in life, you are only left with challenges, struggles, and stressors. That is no way to live. When you stop and take the time to smell the roses, you have a greater appreciation for life’s beauty. Research shows that those who regularly take notice of something beautiful are 12 percent more likely to say that they are satisfied with their lives.
Here are 7 ways that you can start to value the little things in life.
1. Slow Down
Life moves so fast that it can feel as if we are on autopilot. Do you ever feel like there isn’t enough time during the day to accomplish everything? If so, you aren’t alone. This way of thinking has become the norm. When we are in a state of perpetual doing, we can run ourselves into the ground and forget to enjoy the moments that make life worth living.
In his book, Thank You For Being Late: An Optimist’s Guide to Thriving in the Age of Accelerations (Version 2.0, With a New Afterword) Pulitzer Prize-winning author Tom Friedman points out that the most meaningful things in life aren’t things that can be obtained through technology. He suggests that “The faster the world gets … the more you need to step back and appreciate everything that’s old and slow.”
Work isn’t going away. It will always be there, so why not slow down for a few minutes and bask in the simplicities of your day? They are there for a reason, so I encourage you to start noticing them more. Whatever you enjoy doing in life, slow down and savor those experiences more often.
2. Help Others
Think back to a moment when you helped someone. How was it received and how did it make you feel? Helping someone can be achieved in a number of small ways, whether that’s by giving a compliment to smiling at a stranger.
I believe that the secret to long-lasting happiness and fulfillment lies in helping others. Unfortunately, a lot of people get caught up in the hustle and bustle of their own lives, that they forget to think about others.
We are all on this crazy roller coaster of a ride that we call life, together. Why not support one another through the highs and lows? When we step outside of our own world and contribute to the lives of others, it gives us a sense of purpose. No contribution is too small. Open your eyes to the needs of those around you and ask yourself, “How can I be of service?”
By turning your focus on others, you will gain more perspective on your challenges, realizing that they aren’t as bad as you made them out to be. We can improve our own lives, simply by helping others improve theirs. What a simple and beautiful idea.
Moreover, helping others is infectious. Those who feel your compassion will, in turn, be inspired to be more compassionate themselves. Be the change that you desire to see in the world. It’s the little things in life that can have the biggest impact.
3. Adopt An Attitude of Gratitude
An attitude of gratitude helps us to value the little things in life that we often take for granted. The more thankful that we are for what we have, the less likely we are to focus on what we don’t have. This is why I am a big believer in the power of a morning ritual.
By starting your day with a grateful heart and being present with yourself, it gives you the inspiration that you need in order to see the good in everything. This is why I love keeping a gratitude journal. By recording my daily blessings, I move throughout my day feeling more optimistic and happier overall.
4. Live In The Present
I believe that if we want to feel fully alive and happy, we need to live in the present moment. A Harvard study found that we spend about 47 percent of our waking hours thinking about what isn’t going on. In other words, we are not present for almost half of our lives, proving that a wandering mind is not a happy mind.
Being mindful allows us to appreciate the little things in life, instead of worrying about what’s to come. Chicag0-based therapist, Chelsea Hudon says that “We often miss out on life’s little treasures because instead of using our senses to engage in the world around us, we remain in ‘our heads,’ worrying about the future or ruminating about the past.”
Being present starts with self-awareness. It’s about paying attention to what is going on around you, without trying to change anything.
A great way to ensure that you are living in the present moment every day is to create a morning ritual. When you wake up, it is so important to not get caught up in your thoughts. The morning is an opportunity for you to start fresh and set the tone for your day. As part of your ritual, I encourage you to create a mindfulness practice, like yoga or meditation. Doing so will allow you to calm your mind, connect with yourself, and feel a sense of deep gratitude for yourself and your life.
5. Smile More
Research has shown that smiling releases serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter that produces feelings of happiness and well-being. Think about the little things in life that make you smile, whether that’s listening to the sound of the rain, walking in nature, writing in your journal, or enjoying a bath.
The people that find a reason to smile, despite their life circumstances, are oftentimes the most resilient. Every time shit hits the fan, although they may be disappointed, they will still remain hopeful and determined to find the silver lining. Why? Because they have programmed their mind to look for the good.
In the words of Mother Teresa, “I will never understand all of the good that a simple smile can accomplish.” If you are feeling negative emotions, a smile can instantly shift how you are feeling. We forget how quickly we can brighten someone else’s day simply by smiling at them. This proves that the little things in life mean the most.
6. Stop Comparing Yourself To Others
Do you look at others and feel jealousy or envy for what they have? If so, it’s time to stop. Comparing yourself to others will only cause you pain and suffering. Instead, focus on how far YOU have come, and do the work to define your own version of success.
Social comparison is the killer of dreams. Many of us can be so hard on ourselves. When we turn our attention to others’ lives, we neglect our own. As a result, we can miss out on a lot of amazing opportunities.
Sit back and think about all of the little things that make your journey so special. This is an act of self-love. Count your blessings and embrace all of your strengths. If you only concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never have enough. This scarcity mentality will affect every area of your life.
If you are going to compare yourself to anyone, make it count and compare yourself to you! How can you continually upgrade your life so that you are growing and evolving into the best version of your higher self, every day? Don’t give away your power. Love your story and trust that you are on the path to success, whatever that may look like.
7. Spend More Time In Nature
Have you ever experienced a wave of positive emotions as soon as you immerse yourself in nature, whether that’s going for a hike in the mountains or running in the forest? Spending time in nature is a beautiful way to connect back to yourself and what is important to you.
Oftentimes we forget what a powerful experience it can be to activate all of our senses. The act of breathing in fresh air and feeling the ground underneath your feet is a reminder of all of the small wonders of the world that we take for granted.
Over 100 studies have shown that being in nature, living near nature, or even viewing nature in paintings and videos can have positive impacts on our brains, bodies, feelings, thought processes, and social interactions. Pay attention to these micro-moments because they can help you cultivate a great sense of connection to yourself and the world at large.
When you have an appreciation for the little things in life, you experience optimal fulfillment and meaning.
Sometimes the journey is more important than the destination. I encourage you to be mindful and pay more attention to the little things in life. One day you will wake up and realize that, in actuality, they were the big things.

Enjoying The Small Things To Improve Your Life In A Big Way
Do you take time every day to enjoy the small things in life? Most people don’t at the time they happen — only in retrospect.
You may naturally feel excited during big life events – weddings, newborn babies, first homes, job promotions, and so on – and I don’t mean to diminish their importance.
However, we often reminisce about enjoying the small things in life, those everyday moments that have made up the fabric of our lives.
Kurt Vonnegut said, “Enjoy the little things in life because one day you’ll look back and realize they were the big things.”
Why are the little things in life important?
The little things are essential because they comprise the vast majority of our lives. Significant events occur sporadically. Small ones happen from moment to moment. When you neglect the little things, you miss out on enjoying a considerable swath of your life.
Thinking only about the big things without appreciating the little things can even be detrimental.
There’s an outer and inner pressure connected to grand achievements, and being under a lot of pressure negatively affects your mental and physical health.
Feelings of anxiety, sleep difficulties, a compromised immune system, and unexplained aches and pains are not uncommon symptoms of being overly stressed.
Always wanting more instead of enjoying the simple things we already have can lead to a very unsatisfying life.
While goals and dreams certainly are beneficial, an insatiable desire to have more can leave you feeling dissatisfied and resentful. Continually striving to get further ahead removes you from joy and gratitude in the present moment.
This type of mindset removes the focus from what you have and puts it on thoughts of lack. However, a grateful heart allows you to see the good in appreciating the little things happening right now.
The ability to appreciate the small things can upgrade your life in a big way. There is reason to celebrate the small things and be grateful every day with just a slight shift in perspective.

Julianne Moor in Christian Dior Couture
kelly osbourne in zac posen
ginnifer goodwin in monique lhullier.
leslie mann in naeem khan
and our not-so-favorites:
january jones in zac posen.
we love this dress. but would you have been able to tell that this was january?! probably not. the styling of this look killed this gorgeous zac posen. all she had to do was tone down on the eyeliner and actually wash her hair.
elizabeth moss in dolce and gabana.
seriously?! just no. never. we do like your bleach blonde hair, though, elizabeth.
kristen wiig in balenciaga
kristen has a picnic to be at after the emmys. excuse her.
this is james van der veek’s date and are unsure of what designer she is wearing.
you are lucky enough to be at a red carpet and this is what you decide to wear this get up? and you are with james van der veek. we are sorry.
ashley judd in carolina herrera.
this has to be the ugliest dress/ styling that we have seen in a while. your hair. that flower. jewelry. shoes. ashley, the only good thing we can say is that we don’t hate your clutch. we are dying inside that this is a carolina herrera.
we would now like to take this time to give some special props to kat dennings for actually trying this year when it came to the red carpet. you’ve come a long way, ms. dennings. and if it weren’t for the ungodly amount of cleavage showing, you would have looked great. maybe next time, right?
before at the people’s choice awards back in january:
after (much better, right?):
the dark side
trends: i am loving this ‘ gothic glam’ vibe. are you a fan of this darker look?

xo & happy wednesday!
three things
loving these three things:
ceremonial collection
ok, ok. i know i’ve already gotten married, BUT LOOK AT THIS COLLECTION by bona drag. it is to die for. i’d wear any of these guys (esp. the 1st pairing and the last). click the link to see the rest of the collection (yes! this isn’t all of it.)
also- a side note on that beautiful serpent ring: i learned from my friend courtney that queen victoria wore a similar ring and it was a popular wedding band during victorian times! i would love to have that on my finger. and how cool to wear the same type ring as queen victoria?
hope you’re having a happy wednesday and are as inspired by the beauty above as i am!
dear creatures
jump into my closet. especially mia and constance.
Love Is In the Little Things
“Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.”
Valentine’s Day has never been a big deal to me. It always felt commercialized, so forced. I’ve never felt I needed Hallmark to remind me to do something special for my husband, or vice versa.
This certainly isn’t a reflection of how we felt about, treated, or appreciated one another; it just wasn’t a priority to us.
In our more than seventeen years together, some years I would receive a card, flowers, or chocolates, but other years it would pass by like any other day. I’ll admit on a couple of those occasions I felt a little hurt, even slightly unappreciated.
In November 2009 my husband Bill was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia. It was a total shock, as cancer always is. Breaking the news to our three children was almost as devastating as the diagnosis itself.
Bill was a very involved father, never missing a special event or game. He coached our ten-year-old son’s hockey team at the time. His life was his family.
While Bill had a very successful and demanding career as an electrical engineer, he always put us first. Sometimes that meant staying up until 3am to do work, just so he could make it to our daughter’s soccer game.
After Bill was admitted to hospital, his concerns were still about the kids and me. He was actually worried that I had to put out the garbage myself and shovel the driveway. He liked taking care of things like that. He was always trying to make things easier for me.
During Bill’s time in hospital we did a lot of reminiscing. We laughed, we cried—more laughing than crying. Bill and I shared an unusual sense of humor, sometimes making light of things that weren’t funny. It was our little way of coping.
Life with three kids is busy, especially without any family nearby. Couple time was hard to come by, and as sad as our situation was, it gave us a chance to reconnect.
Bill began an intense four-week cycle of chemotherapy. The first cycle would prove to be unsuccessful, and a second cycle was also a failure.
On New Year’s Eve, Bill’s hematologist told us things didn’t look good. The doctors said they could make one more attempt at a very risky, experimental treatment. We decided to go ahead with the treatment, despite the risks.
A few weeks later Bill developed fungal pneumonia, a very dangerous situation for someone with a compromised immune system. On February 13, Bill’s doctor asked to speak with me privately. I was told he was dying, maybe only having a week or so left.
I was heartbroken and devastated. What was worse, he didn’t know. We decided it was best not to tell him since he was already so sick.
I spent that night at his bedside, and the following day he deteriorated quite quickly. He was struggling to speak and breathe. The medical team increased his medication to make him as comfortable as possible.
Bill remained in and out of sleep that day. He briefly woke up and asked me, “Am I going home tonight?” I said, “No, not tonight honey.” He responded, “Wouldn’t it be cool if I went home tonight?”
I told him I loved him, and he whispered the same. I spent the rest of the night holding his hand while he slept. Then it hit me: it was Valentine’s Day. The realization brought me to tears, tears I had been fighting back for weeks.
I didn’t give a damn about roses, chocolates, or jewelry. I just wanted my husband to live. He was only forty years old and I was thirty-seven. We had so many things we wanted to do together as a family and a couple, so many dreams for our future.
I didn’t sleep a wink that night; I just held his hand and prayed. The next afternoon while standing at Bill’s bedside, I placed my hand on his chest to feel his heartbeat. Moments later it stopped. He was gone.
It hasn’t been an easy seven years since Bill’s passing, but I am grateful we had the opportunity to say what we needed to say and have a real understanding of how much we truly appreciated each other.
Now when Valentines Day rolls around, it’s a reminder of how life’s tender moments have the most impact on us.
It’s the feeling of contentment that I miss most. I had no idea what an underrated emotional state it really is. We don’t need a dozen roses once a year to make us feel loved. It’s the little, everyday things that give us that feeling… even taking out the garbage.

Текст
[Verse:]
Great big houses with great big rooms
Were not fashioned for brides and grooms
A little place is where we should be
Great big troubles and great big cares
Come from houses with marble stairs
A little place for you and for me
[Refrain:]
Just a little room or two can more than do a little man and wife
That’s if they’re contented with the little things in life
Living on a larger scale would soon entail a lot of care and strife
We could be so happy with the little things in life
A little rain, a little sun, a little work, a little fun
A little time for loving when the day is done
And a little thing that cries for lullabies could make a man and wife
Tell the world how much they love the little things in life

Enjoying The Little Things
“Enjoy the little things in life because one day you’ll look back and realize they were the big things.” – Robert Brault
To make things worse, social and traditional media bombard us with stories about celebrities and rich people ’ s lifestyles, making that seem like what we should aspire to. A Rolex watch, an Armani suit, a cruise or vacation spent in a bungalow over the water in Bora Bora. These become synonymous with luxury and our supposed life goals.
But that is only the tip of the iceberg. It ’ s time to take back the definition of luxury and start enjoying the small things, happily and simply.

Why It’s Enjoying the Little Things in Life That Makes All the Difference
What are elements that add to your pleasure or comfort even if they are not absolutely necessary? How might you indulge in something that provides pleasure, satisfaction, or ease?
In other words, when was the last time you …
This is a subjective list of course, as it reflects “ small ” things I enjoy doing, things that do not require any monetary investment or significant change in lifestyle, yet never fail to make my day better. Whatever your list looks like – and if you don ’ t have such a list I highly recommend you giving it some thought, there is no time like the present to start weaving more elements from your list into your everyday life.
These actions do not need to take more than a few minutes, or cost anything. The point is to find – and create – moments of happiness throughout your days and make sure you are aware of them when they happen.
These may be labeled “ small ” things, and perhaps they are when compared to spending a few weeks on a deserted island accessed by private jet. But between you and me, the island fantasy might be overdone. What if you were able to take such a trip but were not in good company? Or the island is full of mosquitoes? Or upon arrival you realize you forgot sunscreen?
I am not suggesting anyone should find fault in things unnecessarily, but rather that you add a touch of realism to fantasies if that ’ s what it will take to make you internalize that happiness is not waiting for you on an island, nor will it be unlocked by an expensive item you wish you had.
Enjoying the Small Things: What Does it Mean to You?
Happiness is everywhere you let it be. Small things that happen any given day, or every day. And this is what ’ s big. To realize it ’ s there. Mostly up to you.
So, while it is laudable to have goals such as saving up for a car, vacation, or that piece of jewelry you ’ ve had your eye on for a while, let ’ s balance that out with enjoying life every step of the way. A smile, a kind gesture, a shared moment.
