История о молодом парне, что учится в старшей школе. У него есть подруга детства, которая постоянно за ним приглядывает, и больше рассматривается как старшая сестра. Зовут девушку Куроха Сида. Она же на самом деле не просто так находится с главным героем: девушка давно хотела бы признаться ему в любви, но не может набраться смелости. Тем более, что юноша проявляет внимание к другой девушке, которую зовут Сирокуса Кати. Она популярна, к тому же лучший писатель в школе, что не замечает таких как главный герой. Правда Сирокуса постоянно ему улыбается и даже здоровается, заставляя парня поверить в себя.
Всё бы хорошо, но главный герой неожиданно узнаёт: у девушки уже есть возлюбленный. Это становится неожиданным ударом для юноши, после чего он идёт домой, запирается и не хочет никого видеть. Парень в шоке, так как он много лет мечтал признаться в любви Сирокусе, а уже кто-то сделал это раньше. Тогда к нему приходит Куроха, что чувствует гнев в сердце своего возлюбленного, и шепчет ему на ухо: нужно отомстить! Первая влюбленность – прекрасный жизненный период у каждого человека. Для Суихаро первая любовь стала полной неожиданностью. Парень и подумать не мог, что способен испытывать подобные чувства. Ему казалось, что дружеские отношения с Шидо Куроха и есть любовь, но, увидев первую красавицу школы, понял, как ошибался. Предмет его мечтаний, кажется, не обращает на него внимания. Качи Широкуса настолько прекрасна, что добиться ее внимания хотят многие парни. Во всем Суихаро советуется с Шидо, которая вынуждена скрывать от него истинные чувства.
Парень воспринимает ее как старшую сестру, как товарища, тогда как она видит в нем любимого человека, о котором готова заботиться всегда. Настоящим ударом для юноши становится наличие у Качи Широкуса парня. Synopsis
Suehara Maru is childhood best friends with one of Hozumino High School’s most popular girls, Kuroha Shida. Cute, outgoing, and affectionate, Kuroha is the perfect older sister type. She has boys constantly begging at her feet to be with her. Yet, when she confesses to Suehara one day, he immediately rejects her; he just can’t think of her in that way! Besides, he already has his sights set on his first love—school idol and renowned author Shirokusa Kachi.
Suehara believes that he has a chance with Kachi after one fateful meeting, but soon, he finds out that Kachi has a boyfriend! With his dreams now shattered, Suehara agonizes over what could have been. That is, until Kuroha approaches him with a proposal: «let’s get revenge.»

A failed attempt at an amazing concept.
Initially when looking at the shows I was potentially going to watch this Spring 2021 season, this show’s title caught me by the corner of my eye. ‘Osananajimi ga Zettai ni Makenai Love Comedy’ or otherwise known as, ‘Osakmake: The Romcom Where The Childhood Friend Won’t Lose’. Sounds amusingly interesting, right?
Shortly into the series, we learn that all of the heroines are the main protagonist’s childhood friends. Touché. Touché.
Now with this in mind, the whole concept of a singular childhood friend winning amongst all the other heroines is completely blown out the window. Some would argue that by knowing who the end winner of the series is, it would ultimately be a boring watch. I would argue otherwise. The concept of not knowing who is going to win at the end of the series can be exciting, yes. Cheering on your best girl/guy with other fans of the series can be massively entertaining, yes. The disappointment of that heroine losing or the excitement of seeing them win, is honestly one of the few moments I really appreciate being in this community. But of course, this is only achieved when done correctly.
Here is the problem with many of these harem series: They try to take this approach, but ultimately end up failing by unnecessarily dragging the series out way too long or in some cases not even giving us a winner at the end. By knowing we have an end winner, we as watchers or readers of the series have closure that a heroine will even be chosen at the end. This concept alone would make a series stand out way more from its competitors. But because of this decision, it makes Osamake just another generic romcom thrown down the rabbit hole of many.
What happened to getting revenge? This whole revenge aspect was actually something I found to be a pretty interesting concept when initially reading the synopsis. It would’ve been fun and interesting to see a show revolve around the childhood friend and the main protagonist trying to get revenge on the person who rejected him. And by doing so, the childhood friend and the main protagonist slowly grow closer together. Or so I thought this was going to be the case when reading the synopsis.
The whole ‘revenge’ theme was completely chucked off of the roof as soon as it was introduced. With the recent trend of a lot of new series coming out now, many are starting to overuse this whole ‘revenge’ theme now— most notably, the recent Redo of a Healer. Osamake’s attempt at this shallow theme of revenge was poorly executed and was hardly brushed upon at all. I thought this theme was supposed and going to be built upon more. Heck, even the name of the of the Opening Theme is, “Chance! & Revenge!”. Instead, it was used as a cheap plot device to initially bait the viewer into checking out the series and keep the story going— great.
Speaking of things that the show introduced, but never mentioned or touched on ever again. Osamake consistently did this, including their main selling point of the love revenge plot. At times they would bring in a major focal point as a cliff hanger, but never mention this point again (i.e. the cooking contest between Maria and Shiro). You may argue that, these scenes just may have happened in the sidelines, but if your going to make something a major point in the episode, heck even the entire anime, wouldn’t you think they would at least give us 5 seconds at the beginning of the next episode to show us that the scene did happen?
Initially, when looking at the art style and the character designs from the Light Novel, they were actually pretty good in my opinion. On the contrary though, the animation was just really stiff and awkward. A lot of the stills and backgrounds used throughout the 12 episode runtime, was real hard to look at in combination with the very colorful palate used. Many, if not all, of the characters movements throughout the show looked like a PowerPoint presentation, from little things like running towards or grabbing ‘x’ item, to the dance performances they would give.
I can barely even recall any of the soundtrack used throughout the series, but the Opening Theme, Ending Theme and the insert song used in episode 9 (Paradise SOS) were some pretty catchy songs. I even caught myself re-listening to them a couple times when going out for a morning jog. The voice actors are great, and I’m sure everyone knows and agrees on that at this point. Inori Minase fits perfectly towards Kuro with her gentle and soft spoken voice, yet if needed, can go in the complete opposite direction for a cuter and energetic tone. Ayaneru is known for being able to voice a lot of energetic, soft spoken, cute or cold and sarcastic characters; so Shiro definitely fits her. Ever since Matsuoka Yoshitsugu’s role as Kirito, he has filled a lot of harem protagonist roles. Maru, if not obvious, definitely fits that description. I don’t want to fit every single voice actor, but I think you get the gist at this point.
Our main protagonist is Maru Sueharu. He is very indecisive most of the time, yet very impulsive when it comes to his emotions. He is also a bit perverted, but who would blame him when he has such pretty girls all over him? He is your average harem protagonist, that the average person would find his actions and mannerisms to be pretty annoying.
All of the other characters though are as generic and unlikeable as it can be. Kai Tetsuhiko: The main protagonist’s best friend with a painfully obvious foreshadowed secret. Shirokusa Kachi: typical cold exterior with cute insides type character trope. Kuroha Shida: the wannabe onesan. She doesn’t give off that onesan aura at all and in combination with her very aggressive and stubborn personality, she was really hard to listen to at times. Maria Momosaka: The yandere loli, it may surprise you that she was actually one of the better characters too. Rena Asagi: Big boobs #1. Midori Shida: Big boobs #2. Everyone else from this point is barely worth even mentioning and I’m sure you get the gist.
As much as I hate to use the word cringe, I have to admit that most of the dialogue between characters and their actions were indeed, cringe. All of the lines between the characters made it a really hard watch to actually get through the entire show. The dance performances given looked like they were out of a 2000s pop music video, basically all of Maru’s actions were the definition of cringe, the commercials they filmed were just plain hard to look at, etc. etc.
Look I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this show to anyone. There are a lot of other copy pasta shows just like this that are done twenty times better. But for anyone who is looking for a trashy harem to indulge themselves in because they have free time, here is the show for you!
Although, Osamake is just your average run-of-the-mill harem/romcom show, with a majorly clickbaity title.

Watching Osamake is an incredibly painful experience. The story is riddled with so many dumb twists and cliches, and the characters always act so stupid and nonsensical that it becomes extremely difficult to sit through a single episode.
The protagonist of the story is Sueharu Maru, a high school student who is in love with his classmate Shirokusa Kachi, the idol of his school. After saying «Hello» to her a few times (keep this in mind), Sueharu prepares to confess his love to Shirokusa—only to get disheartened when he finds out that she has a boyfriend. But don’t worry, Sueharu’s childhood friend Kuroha has the perfect solution to this situation! What is that solution, you ask? Get revenge on her, of course! What else would it be? That would show her how big of an alpha male you are!
From then on begins the moronic tale of Sueharu and his equally dull romantic interests, as they make fuss over anything and everything for no goddamn reason—because what’s more entertaining than watching high school students-cum-mentally inept kids do dumb shit?
It may seem as if I’m exaggerating everything, but that’s pretty much what Osamake is in a nutshell. Nearly all the characters of the show are extraordinarily dumb and childish. They make foolish mistakes on numerous occasions and incessantly cry over them, but instead of learning anything from it, they continue to make those mistakes again and again. Their immaturity doesn’t only show in their actions but also in their speech. The script of the anime is rife with stilted and unnatural dialogues, and some of them are so inane that they remind me of conversations I had in elementary school. Legitimately.
Our main character Seharu is the typical happy-go-lucky protagonist you would find in any other romcom anime, except that he is much more stupid, shallow, and pathetic. If the first episode wasn’t enough to convince you he is completely brain-dead—don’t worry, he doesn’t take much time to outdo himself.
To be honest, I didn’t dislike Shirokusa at first. I actually sympathized with her quite a bit—up until a certain point of the story. Like almost everyone else in the anime, it doesn’t take long for her to become annoying. After some time, we get to know that Sueharu used to be Shirokusa’s only friend when she was a child. Because of this, she admired Sueharu and instantly fell in love with him. But before Shirokusa could confess her feelings, they were separated from each other due to Sueharu’s predicament. This sounds quite heartwarming, but guess what Shirokusa does when she meets Saeharu again? Instead of confessing to him, she decides it would be better to fake date another guy so that she could make him jealous.
Kuroha is even worse, though. Her personality is pretty detestable right from the beginning. She is usually the one who causes the most trouble and makes the dumbest decisions, yet half the time she behaves like she is totally innocent and blames others for her own idiocy. I’m not saying that Sueharu and Kachi are sensible people by any measure (they are absolutely not, as I have stated and elaborated earlier), but they are relatively not so bad (huge emphasis on «relatively»), because some of Kuroha’s actions are a lot more questionable in comparison.
Later on, we are introduced to Maria who serves as a younger sister-like character to Sueharu—because what harem would be complete without an overly obsessive imouto? To be fair, Maria is probably the least unlikeable one of the bunch (which isn’t something to be proud of), but she still remains severely underdeveloped as a character. Disregarding the fact that her tough background is brought up completely abruptly, the anime doesn’t bother to properly flesh it out either. It’s implied that her parents are abusive and that’s why she lives separately with her sister, but it never gets mentioned again.
When Osamake doesn’t concentrate on its insufferable romance and comedy, it shifts the focus to its forced drama. The overarching plot of the series revolves around the trials and tribulations of working in the acting industry (supposedly), and without a hint of surprise, it’s not well-written either. Now, the concept does have some potential in my opinion, albeit it has been used quite a few times before. The problem with Osamake is that not only does it fail to provide any insight into the filming industry, but it also dumbs everything down to an incredible extent (just like the romance and the comedy). And the fact that the characters are so obviously one-dimensional only makes the matter worse.
Let’s take Sueharu as an example. At the end of episode 1, it’s suddenly revealed that Sueharu was a renowned actor during his childhood. However, after his mother had passed away due to an unfortunate accident, his acting career was abruptly brought to an end. Later in the anime, Sueharu manages to overcome his trauma and resolves to become an actor again. So, exactly how does he do that? I have no idea. Despite what the series expects us to believe, Sueharu doesn’t face any actual difficulty in confronting his past (except for once in the ENTIRE anime), so there’s exactly zero reason for the viewers to give a shit about him.
This is no different for any of the other main characters. Due to how carelessly the anime handles the characters’ backgrounds, their traumas can only be seen as something that is half-assedly thrown in to add artificial depth to them—not something that is naturally integrated into their respective personalities to make them genuinely nuanced. For this reason, all the characters of the show have a painfully overt artificial air to them and make it difficult for them to be taken seriously, a problem which is even worsened by their usually idiotic personalities.
Also, how the hell is Sueharu supposed to be a prodigious actor? Practically everyone around him thinks that he is amazing for some reason, but never once does he manage to validate his overwhelming fame. In fact, his so-called «brilliant acting» is painfully mediocre; there isn’t a single scene in the anime where he performs nearly as good as he is constantly made out to be. In the confession festival, he does this awkward Fortnite dance or whatever, and I kid you not, it’s easily one of the cringiest things I have ever watched. Everyone in the anime apparently thinks it’s amazing, though, and I have absolutely no clue as to why.
As for the other significant characters, there aren’t any besides Tetsuhiko. All the other side characters are treated as complete fodders who are simply there to heighten the idiotic drama, obsess over Sueharu for god knows whatever reason, and resolve plot points whenever it is convenient. I wouldn’t have complained about this that much if the said characters were at least bearable, but it seems like the author only knows how to make them obnoxious. By the end of the anime, I ended up disliking pretty much all of them either due to how bland or unlikeable they were (especially Ooragi—she was SO ANNOYING). And seriously, what is the purpose of those gorilla-looking guys? Could they be any more punchable?
Let’s talk about Tetsuhiko now. Tetsuhiko looks extremely identical to Yakiatsu from AnoHana, and their personalities are actually similar too—if you remove the depth of Yakiatsu and only keep the smartass attitude. Tetsuhiko is that one annoying playboy character that you see in many romance anime, and the fact that he takes up a sizeable portion of the show doesn’t help. Despite his overbearing presence in the series, Tetsuhiko is far from being a fleshed out character. We are suddenly told that he actually has a significant reason behind why he is starting up a film club, but the author completely forgets about it the second he introduces it. What could have been an interesting subplot is quickly vanished into thin air, and Tetsuhiko remains an obnoxious smartass.
One argument fans use against Osamake’s criticisms is that it’s supposed to be a parody of typical romcom/harem anime, so we shouldn’t be taking the series at face value. Here’s the problem, though—Osamake is far from an actual parody. And even if we pretend that it is one, it’s definitely not good at it. Here’s what I mean.
To make a genuinely entertaining parody, first you have to establish that you are being self-aware. There’s no need to be blatant to about it; you simply have to make it apparent or discernible. Then you have to make the parodies clever and unexpected in a way they don’t seem forced and/or provide some sort of insight. Likeable characters are also very important depending on what kind of story we are handling. If it’s a romcom anime for example, you have to make the characters somewhat likeable given they are pretty much the driving force of your show.
Osamake doesn’t have any of that. The show pretends that it is parodying basic tropes and cliches, but then proceeds to use those exact tropes and cliches as serious plot devices. There’s almost never any real sense of irony in the unbelievably awkward events that occur, and even when there is, it doesn’t make the anime much better due to how unlikeable the characters are. Occasionally, Osamake tries to justify it being self-aware by showing satirical third-person perspectives of the romance storyline, but they are always so blatant and uninteresting that it only makes the series more pretentious.
The production side of Osamake is by far its best aspect, and that’s saying something when the said aspect is mediocre at best. The quality of the animation is mostly okay, but unfortunately it worsens drastically from time to time. Sometimes, the characters look like they are deformed or something, and other objects seem abnormal as well. And can I talk about how awful their classroom looks? Seriously, why the hell does it look so gloomy? Can’t you guys buy some damn lights at least?
The soundtrack is satisfactory. The background tracks are surprisingly pretty good, and while the opening is very annoying, the ending isn’t that bad. The voice actors are actually amazing; they pretty much singlehandedly carry the entire show. Some of the not-so-cringey scenes were surprisingly enjoyable solely because of the competent voice actors. Their voices were irritating to listen to sometimes, but that’s because their assigned characters are crap to begin with. If the voice acting had been garbage as well, I would have had a much harder time sitting through this shitfest.
Osamake encompasses everything that is wrong with the romcom genre; it’s an utter failure of a romcom anime. The comedy is painfully unfunny, the romance is incredibly obnoxious, and the drama has less depth than the puddle of water in my backyard. As much of a trainwreck Domestic na Kanojo was and will be, at least it succeeded at keeping me constantly entertained. Osamake isn’t capable of providing that kind of entertainment either. At best, it’s a painfully generic romcom anime; at worst, it’s an egregiously written pretentious garbage devoid of almost any enjoyment value.

A failed attempt at an amazing concept.
Initially when looking at the shows I was potentially going to watch this Spring 2021 season, this show’s title caught me by the corner of my eye. ‘Osananajimi ga Zettai ni Makenai Love Comedy’ or otherwise known as, ‘Osakmake: The Romcom Where The Childhood Friend Won’t Lose’. Sounds amusingly interesting, right?
Shortly into the series, we learn that all of the heroines are the main protagonist’s childhood friends. Touché. Touché.
Now with this in mind, the whole concept of a singular childhood friend winning amongst all the other heroines is completely blown out the window. Some would argue that by knowing who the end winner of the series is, it would ultimately be a boring watch. I would argue otherwise. The concept of not knowing who is going to win at the end of the series can be exciting, yes. Cheering on your best girl/guy with other fans of the series can be massively entertaining, yes. The disappointment of that heroine losing or the excitement of seeing them win, is honestly one of the few moments I really appreciate being in this community. But of course, this is only achieved when done correctly.
Here is the problem with many of these harem series: They try to take this approach, but ultimately end up failing by unnecessarily dragging the series out way too long or in some cases not even giving us a winner at the end. By knowing we have an end winner, we as watchers or readers of the series have closure that a heroine will even be chosen at the end. This concept alone would make a series stand out way more from its competitors. But because of this decision, it makes Osamake just another generic romcom thrown down the rabbit hole of many.
What happened to getting revenge? This whole revenge aspect was actually something I found to be a pretty interesting concept when initially reading the synopsis. It would’ve been fun and interesting to see a show revolve around the childhood friend and the main protagonist trying to get revenge on the person who rejected him. And by doing so, the childhood friend and the main protagonist slowly grow closer together. Or so I thought this was going to be the case when reading the synopsis.
The whole ‘revenge’ theme was completely chucked off of the roof as soon as it was introduced. With the recent trend of a lot of new series coming out now, many are starting to overuse this whole ‘revenge’ theme now— most notably, the recent Redo of a Healer. Osamake’s attempt at this shallow theme of revenge was poorly executed and was hardly brushed upon at all. I thought this theme was supposed and going to be built upon more. Heck, even the name of the of the Opening Theme is, “Chance! & Revenge!”. Instead, it was used as a cheap plot device to initially bait the viewer into checking out the series and keep the story going— great.
Speaking of things that the show introduced, but never mentioned or touched on ever again. Osamake consistently did this, including their main selling point of the love revenge plot. At times they would bring in a major focal point as a cliff hanger, but never mention this point again (i.e. the cooking contest between Maria and Shiro). You may argue that, these scenes just may have happened in the sidelines, but if your going to make something a major point in the episode, heck even the entire anime, wouldn’t you think they would at least give us 5 seconds at the beginning of the next episode to show us that the scene did happen?
Initially, when looking at the art style and the character designs from the Light Novel, they were actually pretty good in my opinion. On the contrary though, the animation was just really stiff and awkward. A lot of the stills and backgrounds used throughout the 12 episode runtime, was real hard to look at in combination with the very colorful palate used. Many, if not all, of the characters movements throughout the show looked like a PowerPoint presentation, from little things like running towards or grabbing ‘x’ item, to the dance performances they would give.
I can barely even recall any of the soundtrack used throughout the series, but the Opening Theme, Ending Theme and the insert song used in episode 9 (Paradise SOS) were some pretty catchy songs. I even caught myself re-listening to them a couple times when going out for a morning jog. The voice actors are great, and I’m sure everyone knows and agrees on that at this point. Inori Minase fits perfectly towards Kuro with her gentle and soft spoken voice, yet if needed, can go in the complete opposite direction for a cuter and energetic tone. Ayaneru is known for being able to voice a lot of energetic, soft spoken, cute or cold and sarcastic characters; so Shiro definitely fits her. Ever since Matsuoka Yoshitsugu’s role as Kirito, he has filled a lot of harem protagonist roles. Maru, if not obvious, definitely fits that description. I don’t want to fit every single voice actor, but I think you get the gist at this point.
Our main protagonist is Maru Sueharu. He is very indecisive most of the time, yet very impulsive when it comes to his emotions. He is also a bit perverted, but who would blame him when he has such pretty girls all over him? He is your average harem protagonist, that the average person would find his actions and mannerisms to be pretty annoying.
All of the other characters though are as generic and unlikeable as it can be. Kai Tetsuhiko: The main protagonist’s best friend with a painfully obvious foreshadowed secret. Shirokusa Kachi: typical cold exterior with cute insides type character trope. Kuroha Shida: the wannabe onesan. She doesn’t give off that onesan aura at all and in combination with her very aggressive and stubborn personality, she was really hard to listen to at times. Maria Momosaka: The yandere loli, it may surprise you that she was actually one of the better characters too. Rena Asagi: Big boobs #1. Midori Shida: Big boobs #2. Everyone else from this point is barely worth even mentioning and I’m sure you get the gist.
As much as I hate to use the word cringe, I have to admit that most of the dialogue between characters and their actions were indeed, cringe. All of the lines between the characters made it a really hard watch to actually get through the entire show. The dance performances given looked like they were out of a 2000s pop music video, basically all of Maru’s actions were the definition of cringe, the commercials they filmed were just plain hard to look at, etc. etc.
Look I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this show to anyone. There are a lot of other copy pasta shows just like this that are done twenty times better. But for anyone who is looking for a trashy harem to indulge themselves in because they have free time, here is the show for you!
Although, Osamake is just your average run-of-the-mill harem/romcom show, with a majorly clickbaity title.

Watching Osamake is an incredibly painful experience. The story is riddled with so many dumb twists and cliches, and the characters always act so stupid and nonsensical that it becomes extremely difficult to sit through a single episode.
The protagonist of the story is Sueharu Maru, a high school student who is in love with his classmate Shirokusa Kachi, the idol of his school. After saying «Hello» to her a few times (keep this in mind), Sueharu prepares to confess his love to Shirokusa—only to get disheartened when he finds out that she has a boyfriend. But don’t worry, Sueharu’s childhood friend Kuroha has the perfect solution to this situation! What is that solution, you ask? Get revenge on her, of course! What else would it be? That would show her how big of an alpha male you are!
From then on begins the moronic tale of Sueharu and his equally dull romantic interests, as they make fuss over anything and everything for no goddamn reason—because what’s more entertaining than watching high school students-cum-mentally inept kids do dumb shit?
It may seem as if I’m exaggerating everything, but that’s pretty much what Osamake is in a nutshell. Nearly all the characters of the show are extraordinarily dumb and childish. They make foolish mistakes on numerous occasions and incessantly cry over them, but instead of learning anything from it, they continue to make those mistakes again and again. Their immaturity doesn’t only show in their actions but also in their speech. The script of the anime is rife with stilted and unnatural dialogues, and some of them are so inane that they remind me of conversations I had in elementary school. Legitimately.
Our main character Seharu is the typical happy-go-lucky protagonist you would find in any other romcom anime, except that he is much more stupid, shallow, and pathetic. If the first episode wasn’t enough to convince you he is completely brain-dead—don’t worry, he doesn’t take much time to outdo himself.
To be honest, I didn’t dislike Shirokusa at first. I actually sympathized with her quite a bit—up until a certain point of the story. Like almost everyone else in the anime, it doesn’t take long for her to become annoying. After some time, we get to know that Sueharu used to be Shirokusa’s only friend when she was a child. Because of this, she admired Sueharu and instantly fell in love with him. But before Shirokusa could confess her feelings, they were separated from each other due to Sueharu’s predicament. This sounds quite heartwarming, but guess what Shirokusa does when she meets Saeharu again? Instead of confessing to him, she decides it would be better to fake date another guy so that she could make him jealous.
Kuroha is even worse, though. Her personality is pretty detestable right from the beginning. She is usually the one who causes the most trouble and makes the dumbest decisions, yet half the time she behaves like she is totally innocent and blames others for her own idiocy. I’m not saying that Sueharu and Kachi are sensible people by any measure (they are absolutely not, as I have stated and elaborated earlier), but they are relatively not so bad (huge emphasis on «relatively»), because some of Kuroha’s actions are a lot more questionable in comparison.
Later on, we are introduced to Maria who serves as a younger sister-like character to Sueharu—because what harem would be complete without an overly obsessive imouto? To be fair, Maria is probably the least unlikeable one of the bunch (which isn’t something to be proud of), but she still remains severely underdeveloped as a character. Disregarding the fact that her tough background is brought up completely abruptly, the anime doesn’t bother to properly flesh it out either. It’s implied that her parents are abusive and that’s why she lives separately with her sister, but it never gets mentioned again.
When Osamake doesn’t concentrate on its insufferable romance and comedy, it shifts the focus to its forced drama. The overarching plot of the series revolves around the trials and tribulations of working in the acting industry (supposedly), and without a hint of surprise, it’s not well-written either. Now, the concept does have some potential in my opinion, albeit it has been used quite a few times before. The problem with Osamake is that not only does it fail to provide any insight into the filming industry, but it also dumbs everything down to an incredible extent (just like the romance and the comedy). And the fact that the characters are so obviously one-dimensional only makes the matter worse.
Let’s take Sueharu as an example. At the end of episode 1, it’s suddenly revealed that Sueharu was a renowned actor during his childhood. However, after his mother had passed away due to an unfortunate accident, his acting career was abruptly brought to an end. Later in the anime, Sueharu manages to overcome his trauma and resolves to become an actor again. So, exactly how does he do that? I have no idea. Despite what the series expects us to believe, Sueharu doesn’t face any actual difficulty in confronting his past (except for once in the ENTIRE anime), so there’s exactly zero reason for the viewers to give a shit about him.
This is no different for any of the other main characters. Due to how carelessly the anime handles the characters’ backgrounds, their traumas can only be seen as something that is half-assedly thrown in to add artificial depth to them—not something that is naturally integrated into their respective personalities to make them genuinely nuanced. For this reason, all the characters of the show have a painfully overt artificial air to them and make it difficult for them to be taken seriously, a problem which is even worsened by their usually idiotic personalities.
Also, how the hell is Sueharu supposed to be a prodigious actor? Practically everyone around him thinks that he is amazing for some reason, but never once does he manage to validate his overwhelming fame. In fact, his so-called «brilliant acting» is painfully mediocre; there isn’t a single scene in the anime where he performs nearly as good as he is constantly made out to be. In the confession festival, he does this awkward Fortnite dance or whatever, and I kid you not, it’s easily one of the cringiest things I have ever watched. Everyone in the anime apparently thinks it’s amazing, though, and I have absolutely no clue as to why.
As for the other significant characters, there aren’t any besides Tetsuhiko. All the other side characters are treated as complete fodders who are simply there to heighten the idiotic drama, obsess over Sueharu for god knows whatever reason, and resolve plot points whenever it is convenient. I wouldn’t have complained about this that much if the said characters were at least bearable, but it seems like the author only knows how to make them obnoxious. By the end of the anime, I ended up disliking pretty much all of them either due to how bland or unlikeable they were (especially Ooragi—she was SO ANNOYING). And seriously, what is the purpose of those gorilla-looking guys? Could they be any more punchable?
Let’s talk about Tetsuhiko now. Tetsuhiko looks extremely identical to Yakiatsu from AnoHana, and their personalities are actually similar too—if you remove the depth of Yakiatsu and only keep the smartass attitude. Tetsuhiko is that one annoying playboy character that you see in many romance anime, and the fact that he takes up a sizeable portion of the show doesn’t help. Despite his overbearing presence in the series, Tetsuhiko is far from being a fleshed out character. We are suddenly told that he actually has a significant reason behind why he is starting up a film club, but the author completely forgets about it the second he introduces it. What could have been an interesting subplot is quickly vanished into thin air, and Tetsuhiko remains an obnoxious smartass.
One argument fans use against Osamake’s criticisms is that it’s supposed to be a parody of typical romcom/harem anime, so we shouldn’t be taking the series at face value. Here’s the problem, though—Osamake is far from an actual parody. And even if we pretend that it is one, it’s definitely not good at it. Here’s what I mean.
To make a genuinely entertaining parody, first you have to establish that you are being self-aware. There’s no need to be blatant to about it; you simply have to make it apparent or discernible. Then you have to make the parodies clever and unexpected in a way they don’t seem forced and/or provide some sort of insight. Likeable characters are also very important depending on what kind of story we are handling. If it’s a romcom anime for example, you have to make the characters somewhat likeable given they are pretty much the driving force of your show.
Osamake doesn’t have any of that. The show pretends that it is parodying basic tropes and cliches, but then proceeds to use those exact tropes and cliches as serious plot devices. There’s almost never any real sense of irony in the unbelievably awkward events that occur, and even when there is, it doesn’t make the anime much better due to how unlikeable the characters are. Occasionally, Osamake tries to justify it being self-aware by showing satirical third-person perspectives of the romance storyline, but they are always so blatant and uninteresting that it only makes the series more pretentious.
The production side of Osamake is by far its best aspect, and that’s saying something when the said aspect is mediocre at best. The quality of the animation is mostly okay, but unfortunately it worsens drastically from time to time. Sometimes, the characters look like they are deformed or something, and other objects seem abnormal as well. And can I talk about how awful their classroom looks? Seriously, why the hell does it look so gloomy? Can’t you guys buy some damn lights at least?
The soundtrack is satisfactory. The background tracks are surprisingly pretty good, and while the opening is very annoying, the ending isn’t that bad. The voice actors are actually amazing; they pretty much singlehandedly carry the entire show. Some of the not-so-cringey scenes were surprisingly enjoyable solely because of the competent voice actors. Their voices were irritating to listen to sometimes, but that’s because their assigned characters are crap to begin with. If the voice acting had been garbage as well, I would have had a much harder time sitting through this shitfest.
Osamake encompasses everything that is wrong with the romcom genre; it’s an utter failure of a romcom anime. The comedy is painfully unfunny, the romance is incredibly obnoxious, and the drama has less depth than the puddle of water in my backyard. As much of a trainwreck Domestic na Kanojo was and will be, at least it succeeded at keeping me constantly entertained. Osamake isn’t capable of providing that kind of entertainment either. At best, it’s a painfully generic romcom anime; at worst, it’s an egregiously written pretentious garbage devoid of almost any enjoyment value.

I didn’t bother before to write any reviews, but after the fourth episode of this I feel like I want to share my opinion.
So first of all the basic idea of the Story, Sound and Art are average in my opinion. It might have been enjoyable, if elaborated better.
Sadly this Anime is ruined by the Characters and their (unlogic) way of acting also by certain events that just make the whole thing cringey (like the dance, confessions, rejections, amnesia).
The character interactions are so poor and the dialogue is kinda forced.
So far this was a huge waste of time.
Osanajimi is a nice little rom-com this season that probably stands out a lot more compared to the «weirder» rom-coms we have airing like Nagatoro, Koikimo and Higehiro. That being said, Osananajimi isn’t without its flaws and it falls a bit short of where it could have been.
Overall: 6/10
The story is a bit unique compared to the generic rom-com formula: it’s centred around the idea of your first love being your most genuine love and something you don’t wanna lose. This leads to the various revenge plots we saw unfolding in the first 3 episodes.
Art: 7/10
I like the cutesy, bright art style. It’s nice. But the animation for the dances and stuff in EP 3 was pretty subpar. I know, I know, the budget probably isn’t as high or the team isn’t as dedicated to the project compared to smth like Kaguya Sama, but it doesn’t change the fact the dancing was very jittery and didn’t flow well.
Sound: 8/10
A lot of the voice actors are the same ones from Quintessential Quintuplets, so that’s loads of fun. The OP and ED are also quite good, and I’m a fan of the background music/OSTs too.

Big respect to Maru for not being a pussy ass bitch MC in a harem anime. Was the way he suddenly overcame his trauma a bit clutch and underdeveloped? Maybe. But I don’t think it was terrible either.
As for the other characters, they «fit» their tropes pretty well, but most importantly, we don’t have no pussy ass bitches for the girls. They’re all direct in their feelings towards Maru, and that helped the series naturally progress to where it is now 4 episodes in. It’ll be interesting to see how character development goes down in the future.

Overall, Osananajimi is an enjoyable watch for me. I don’t (overly) cringe at moments in this anime, and it’s got a fair share of jokes and gags that crack a smile. It’s a solid rom-com that isn’t too cliche, and considering how everything has developed and progressed so far, I sure hope it stays that way and doesn’t suddenly hit the brakes.
To understand how the anime community got from the awkward HenSuki, then strong OreSuki to the ass-pull OsaMake (this show), here are 2 excerpts of the interview between Joey The Anime Man and novelist Rui Tsukiyo, the author of Redo of Healer:
This excerpt however, hits home to why this show sucks BALLS (Rui Tsukiyo was mentioning how he got motivated to write Redo of Healer):
«I deliberately wrote something that I thought would sell well. There is a site called Syosetu where users can upload their writing, and many of the top-ranking submissions of the site were revenge stories. Since they were popular and I like them, I thought I’d write my own. But those stories are very weak, they kept talking about revenge. but after like 2 or 3 chapters, the revenge part is over. And then it just turns into the story of an OP protag with a harem.» AND GUESS WHAT, Rui Tsukiyo IS DAMN SPOT ON, as such we’re seeing with OsaMake, the scapegoat to a common trend.
And folks, even if you like or dislike Rui Tsukiyo for writing the controversial Redo of Healer, you can’t deny that he is a very calculative guy who knows how to buck the trend in a wise manner. And his pointers are especially damning to this seemingly «newbie» author that is Shuichi Nimaru, who did 2 short LNs between 2011 and 2014 before assuming a «long hiatus» before creating OsaMake in 2019, and popular it did get in Japan, scoring 5th in Takarajimasha’s Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! (This Light Novel Is Amazing!) list in 2020, and sales of the LN are still soaring in the Top 10 as of the time of this review. Honestly though, this is a surprise given that Japan is lukewarm to the harem rom-com genre’s successions of staleness, to which Western anime fans like us have long been complaining that this kind of genre has seen a lot of derivatives and deviations to the point of endless mediocrity. OsaMake though, drives just one point of just bearing the absolute r**e-fest of a cringe show that can be summed up in one word: PATHETIC.
We’ve been through a hell lot of rom-com stories like these in recent years, heck I’d say that for every legit decent-to-good rom-com show like OreSuki, BokuBen, 5-toubun no Hanayome a.k.a. Quintessential Quintuplets, or even reverse-harem ones like Hamefura a.k.a Otome Game, there are at least a few bad iterations like it, both in anime and source material form. OsaMake truly stands on the opposite spectrum as one of the modern popular works with a shit-load kind of plot that only serves to degrade its overarching story by cramping in as much of the features that even hardcore harem rom-com fans like us DO NOT WANT to see, but yet it did in its shameless subservient form. If this is the standard going forward for new manga or LN harem rom-com series, I’m sorry to say that «new» authors like Shuichi Nimaru have only found a formula to earn them food on their table for a living, while bringing absolutely nothing new nor groundbreaking in the stymied genre that once you saw one, you’ve seen one many times over.
Prodgies, and very specifcally, revenge. We’ve seen this kind of plot play so many times over, it doesn’t feel like I’m being that type of weeb who likes OP characters, especially «child prodgies» that earn a cult reputation and being chased after fans, only except that in OsaMake’s case, they live next to you as a childhood friend! And guess what? As if the lovey-dovey sense of the childhood friend isn’t enough, the MC’s line of work has also earned him the attention of the girls whom have worked with him since young, that are now trying to take a piece of this weak-ass MC’s «virginity». Guys, this male MC called Sueharu Maru, is nothing more than your average generic guy who only has enough «drama» in his life just to be «intertwined in the red thread of fate» of girls that are same age or even younger, to have an admiration for him. To be rejected in love by one of his past female «friends», that is now a prominent figure in the industry, this girl who goes by the name of Shirokusa Kachi, with her lush demeanor and bright presence, she is a «force» to be reckoned with. OK, so what’s the solution? Bring in your good ol’ childhood frend: Kuroha Shida, to help you out with your so-called revenge, while she still harbours romantic feelings for you since young! Yes, that’s right, now you see why this is the rom-com that the childhood friend will not lose! This supposedly love «triangle» (which constantly evolved as the female count goes higher) is in all: one painful experience to watch, let alone experience.
If I have to match the character cast that’s similar to a movie, it’d be Snow White and the 7 Dwarves, or in the case of OsaMake: Dumb Black and the 7 Thirsty Sisters. Sueharu’s VA Yoshitsugu Matsuoka is a staple in rom-coms, as is Kuroha’s VA Inori Minase and Shirokusa’s VA Ayane Sakura. With the inclusion of yet another girl in the love «rectangle» mix: VA Saori Oonishi (SaeKano’s Eriri Sawamura) voicing Maria Momosaka, no doubt in my mind that the VAs are definitely the best part about this show, and just like every harem rom-com, I can tell that the VAs are definitely having fun while recording their lines for this show. Unsurprisingly, this is about as far as my praise would get, because everything else is tacked-on appalling, and don’t even think about trying to defend this dense-less density of a show that’s weaker than cooking oil to burn the flames even greater than imagined. I’ll admit that if there is one thing that Shuichi Nimaru can get it right, is naming his characters, which are references to characters in Fire Emblem: Sueharu (Marth), Kuroha (Sheeda), Shirokusa (Catria), Tetsuhiko (Cain) and Maria (obviously Maria) respectively. Even Kuroha (black wing), Shirokusa (white dress) and (Maria) Momosaka (pink hill)’s names include colors.
Ready to see who I’ll label everyone as such? Here goes:
— Sueharu Maru is the abridged Snow White’s Dumb-and-Dumber Black
— Tetsuhiko Kai is the Prince (just because I hate all girls who tries to win Sueharu’s heart)
— Kuroha Shida is Grumpy

— Maria Momosaka is Happy
— Rena Asagi is Dopey
— Midori Shida is Sneezy
— Aoi Shida is Sleepy
— (Last but not least) Akane Shida is Doc
Maru Sueharu is very apt as I call him Dumb Black because he doesn’t know how to read his situations nor give solutions to circumstances. Instead, everything is hell-bent reliant on the best friend chad that is Tetsuhiko Kai, who does the in-between jobs for him like how a personal manager would be accounting to a former child star. It always makes me wonder who’s playing the actual MC role here, and at more times than not, Tetsuhiko is like playing the «Prince Charming» or the dwarves’ «Doc» role here to literally kiss the MC’s butt and suck up to his shortcomings. For the girls, honest-to-God I’ve tried to have a better comparison for the background girls (especially Kuroha’s 4 sisters), but for the 3 central girls Kuroha, Shirokusa and Maria, there’s no mistaking their roles for how much screentime they got to eschew the living hell out of this child prodigy that’s all talk but no action. This type of harem exists everywhere, but the execution here sucks my balls dry, not hard. One thing’s for sure, this is not a Snow White kind of story that is a modernized classic fairy tale in the imitation space.
Doga Kobo’s production animation. sure seems wonky for a harem rom-com type of show. It seems to me as if there’s a disconnect between the character designs and the visuals, which often come to me as 2 different byproducts that don’t seem to mesh well together. Granted, slice-of-life shows is the studio’s consistent bread-and-butter (and you can definitely feel a Doga Kobo show that way), but in recent times, going experimental with difference of styles from the magic fantasy that is Maoujou de Oyasumi, to the dark and depressing mystery drama that is Ikebukuro West Gate Park, it seems as though like it’s etching its thematics like another studio (Ajia-Do). I’m not saying it’s wrong to try out of the comfort zone, but you can definitely feel the difference in production (that’s not necessarily a departure).
Even the OST here really is so-so levels of decent. I really admire Riko Azuna’s charmly voices when her songs are chosen for either OP or ED, but while OsaMake definitely feels like her normal rhetorical self, I’ve gotta admit that the peppy OP is kinda boring. Compare that to Spider Isekai and Yagate Kimi ni Naru a.k.a Bloom Into You’s OP (which the latter is still by far the best beautiful song she’s ever written), and it feels like a step down in quality. Overtime as time passes, character-centric EDs are sounding more mediocre, as much as I can give a thumbs up to the VAs who collaborate together for A+ effort, I can’t say as much that it really does get old rather fast and for good reason.
Should I say that I feel disappointed by what OsaMake tries to «be something different»? Apparently not, just find any word that rhymes with the prescriptive words of «bad»,»cliché», or even «cringe» as hell, and associate it with this bastardized harem rom-com of a show. Mark my words that this excruciating experience of a sleazy showing is absolutely not worth your time, and don’t even think of starting this one.

Synopsis
Suehara Maru is childhood best friends with one of Hozumino High School’s most popular girls, Kuroha Shida. Cute, outgoing, and affectionate, Kuroha is the perfect older sister type. She has boys constantly begging at her feet to be with her. Yet, when she confesses to Suehara one day, he immediately rejects her; he just can’t think of her in that way! Besides, he already has his sights set on his first love—school idol and renowned author Shirokusa Kachi.
Suehara believes that he has a chance with Kachi after one fateful meeting, but soon, he finds out that Kachi has a boyfriend! With his dreams now shattered, Suehara agonizes over what could have been. That is, until Kuroha approaches him with a proposal: «let’s get revenge.»

A failed attempt at an amazing concept.
Initially when looking at the shows I was potentially going to watch this Spring 2021 season, this show’s title caught me by the corner of my eye. ‘Osananajimi ga Zettai ni Makenai Love Comedy’ or otherwise known as, ‘Osakmake: The Romcom Where The Childhood Friend Won’t Lose’. Sounds amusingly interesting, right?
Shortly into the series, we learn that all of the heroines are the main protagonist’s childhood friends. Touché. Touché.
Now with this in mind, the whole concept of a singular childhood friend winning amongst all the other heroines is completely blown out the window. Some would argue that by knowing who the end winner of the series is, it would ultimately be a boring watch. I would argue otherwise. The concept of not knowing who is going to win at the end of the series can be exciting, yes. Cheering on your best girl/guy with other fans of the series can be massively entertaining, yes. The disappointment of that heroine losing or the excitement of seeing them win, is honestly one of the few moments I really appreciate being in this community. But of course, this is only achieved when done correctly.
Here is the problem with many of these harem series: They try to take this approach, but ultimately end up failing by unnecessarily dragging the series out way too long or in some cases not even giving us a winner at the end. By knowing we have an end winner, we as watchers or readers of the series have closure that a heroine will even be chosen at the end. This concept alone would make a series stand out way more from its competitors. But because of this decision, it makes Osamake just another generic romcom thrown down the rabbit hole of many.
What happened to getting revenge? This whole revenge aspect was actually something I found to be a pretty interesting concept when initially reading the synopsis. It would’ve been fun and interesting to see a show revolve around the childhood friend and the main protagonist trying to get revenge on the person who rejected him. And by doing so, the childhood friend and the main protagonist slowly grow closer together. Or so I thought this was going to be the case when reading the synopsis.
The whole ‘revenge’ theme was completely chucked off of the roof as soon as it was introduced. With the recent trend of a lot of new series coming out now, many are starting to overuse this whole ‘revenge’ theme now— most notably, the recent Redo of a Healer. Osamake’s attempt at this shallow theme of revenge was poorly executed and was hardly brushed upon at all. I thought this theme was supposed and going to be built upon more. Heck, even the name of the of the Opening Theme is, “Chance! & Revenge!”. Instead, it was used as a cheap plot device to initially bait the viewer into checking out the series and keep the story going— great.
Speaking of things that the show introduced, but never mentioned or touched on ever again. Osamake consistently did this, including their main selling point of the love revenge plot. At times they would bring in a major focal point as a cliff hanger, but never mention this point again (i.e. the cooking contest between Maria and Shiro). You may argue that, these scenes just may have happened in the sidelines, but if your going to make something a major point in the episode, heck even the entire anime, wouldn’t you think they would at least give us 5 seconds at the beginning of the next episode to show us that the scene did happen?
Initially, when looking at the art style and the character designs from the Light Novel, they were actually pretty good in my opinion. On the contrary though, the animation was just really stiff and awkward. A lot of the stills and backgrounds used throughout the 12 episode runtime, was real hard to look at in combination with the very colorful palate used. Many, if not all, of the characters movements throughout the show looked like a PowerPoint presentation, from little things like running towards or grabbing ‘x’ item, to the dance performances they would give.
I can barely even recall any of the soundtrack used throughout the series, but the Opening Theme, Ending Theme and the insert song used in episode 9 (Paradise SOS) were some pretty catchy songs. I even caught myself re-listening to them a couple times when going out for a morning jog. The voice actors are great, and I’m sure everyone knows and agrees on that at this point. Inori Minase fits perfectly towards Kuro with her gentle and soft spoken voice, yet if needed, can go in the complete opposite direction for a cuter and energetic tone. Ayaneru is known for being able to voice a lot of energetic, soft spoken, cute or cold and sarcastic characters; so Shiro definitely fits her. Ever since Matsuoka Yoshitsugu’s role as Kirito, he has filled a lot of harem protagonist roles. Maru, if not obvious, definitely fits that description. I don’t want to fit every single voice actor, but I think you get the gist at this point.
Our main protagonist is Maru Sueharu. He is very indecisive most of the time, yet very impulsive when it comes to his emotions. He is also a bit perverted, but who would blame him when he has such pretty girls all over him? He is your average harem protagonist, that the average person would find his actions and mannerisms to be pretty annoying.
All of the other characters though are as generic and unlikeable as it can be. Kai Tetsuhiko: The main protagonist’s best friend with a painfully obvious foreshadowed secret. Shirokusa Kachi: typical cold exterior with cute insides type character trope. Kuroha Shida: the wannabe onesan. She doesn’t give off that onesan aura at all and in combination with her very aggressive and stubborn personality, she was really hard to listen to at times. Maria Momosaka: The yandere loli, it may surprise you that she was actually one of the better characters too. Rena Asagi: Big boobs #1. Midori Shida: Big boobs #2. Everyone else from this point is barely worth even mentioning and I’m sure you get the gist.
As much as I hate to use the word cringe, I have to admit that most of the dialogue between characters and their actions were indeed, cringe. All of the lines between the characters made it a really hard watch to actually get through the entire show. The dance performances given looked like they were out of a 2000s pop music video, basically all of Maru’s actions were the definition of cringe, the commercials they filmed were just plain hard to look at, etc. etc.
Look I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this show to anyone. There are a lot of other copy pasta shows just like this that are done twenty times better. But for anyone who is looking for a trashy harem to indulge themselves in because they have free time, here is the show for you!
Although, Osamake is just your average run-of-the-mill harem/romcom show, with a majorly clickbaity title.

Watching Osamake is an incredibly painful experience. The story is riddled with so many dumb twists and cliches, and the characters always act so stupid and nonsensical that it becomes extremely difficult to sit through a single episode.
The protagonist of the story is Sueharu Maru, a high school student who is in love with his classmate Shirokusa Kachi, the idol of his school. After saying «Hello» to her a few times (keep this in mind), Sueharu prepares to confess his love to Shirokusa—only to get disheartened when he finds out that she has a boyfriend. But don’t worry, Sueharu’s childhood friend Kuroha has the perfect solution to this situation! What is that solution, you ask? Get revenge on her, of course! What else would it be? That would show her how big of an alpha male you are!
From then on begins the moronic tale of Sueharu and his equally dull romantic interests, as they make fuss over anything and everything for no goddamn reason—because what’s more entertaining than watching high school students-cum-mentally inept kids do dumb shit?
It may seem as if I’m exaggerating everything, but that’s pretty much what Osamake is in a nutshell. Nearly all the characters of the show are extraordinarily dumb and childish. They make foolish mistakes on numerous occasions and incessantly cry over them, but instead of learning anything from it, they continue to make those mistakes again and again. Their immaturity doesn’t only show in their actions but also in their speech. The script of the anime is rife with stilted and unnatural dialogues, and some of them are so inane that they remind me of conversations I had in elementary school. Legitimately.
Our main character Seharu is the typical happy-go-lucky protagonist you would find in any other romcom anime, except that he is much more stupid, shallow, and pathetic. If the first episode wasn’t enough to convince you he is completely brain-dead—don’t worry, he doesn’t take much time to outdo himself.
To be honest, I didn’t dislike Shirokusa at first. I actually sympathized with her quite a bit—up until a certain point of the story. Like almost everyone else in the anime, it doesn’t take long for her to become annoying. After some time, we get to know that Sueharu used to be Shirokusa’s only friend when she was a child. Because of this, she admired Sueharu and instantly fell in love with him. But before Shirokusa could confess her feelings, they were separated from each other due to Sueharu’s predicament. This sounds quite heartwarming, but guess what Shirokusa does when she meets Saeharu again? Instead of confessing to him, she decides it would be better to fake date another guy so that she could make him jealous.
Kuroha is even worse, though. Her personality is pretty detestable right from the beginning. She is usually the one who causes the most trouble and makes the dumbest decisions, yet half the time she behaves like she is totally innocent and blames others for her own idiocy. I’m not saying that Sueharu and Kachi are sensible people by any measure (they are absolutely not, as I have stated and elaborated earlier), but they are relatively not so bad (huge emphasis on «relatively»), because some of Kuroha’s actions are a lot more questionable in comparison.
Later on, we are introduced to Maria who serves as a younger sister-like character to Sueharu—because what harem would be complete without an overly obsessive imouto? To be fair, Maria is probably the least unlikeable one of the bunch (which isn’t something to be proud of), but she still remains severely underdeveloped as a character. Disregarding the fact that her tough background is brought up completely abruptly, the anime doesn’t bother to properly flesh it out either. It’s implied that her parents are abusive and that’s why she lives separately with her sister, but it never gets mentioned again.
When Osamake doesn’t concentrate on its insufferable romance and comedy, it shifts the focus to its forced drama. The overarching plot of the series revolves around the trials and tribulations of working in the acting industry (supposedly), and without a hint of surprise, it’s not well-written either. Now, the concept does have some potential in my opinion, albeit it has been used quite a few times before. The problem with Osamake is that not only does it fail to provide any insight into the filming industry, but it also dumbs everything down to an incredible extent (just like the romance and the comedy). And the fact that the characters are so obviously one-dimensional only makes the matter worse.
Let’s take Sueharu as an example. At the end of episode 1, it’s suddenly revealed that Sueharu was a renowned actor during his childhood. However, after his mother had passed away due to an unfortunate accident, his acting career was abruptly brought to an end. Later in the anime, Sueharu manages to overcome his trauma and resolves to become an actor again. So, exactly how does he do that? I have no idea. Despite what the series expects us to believe, Sueharu doesn’t face any actual difficulty in confronting his past (except for once in the ENTIRE anime), so there’s exactly zero reason for the viewers to give a shit about him.
This is no different for any of the other main characters. Due to how carelessly the anime handles the characters’ backgrounds, their traumas can only be seen as something that is half-assedly thrown in to add artificial depth to them—not something that is naturally integrated into their respective personalities to make them genuinely nuanced. For this reason, all the characters of the show have a painfully overt artificial air to them and make it difficult for them to be taken seriously, a problem which is even worsened by their usually idiotic personalities.
Also, how the hell is Sueharu supposed to be a prodigious actor? Practically everyone around him thinks that he is amazing for some reason, but never once does he manage to validate his overwhelming fame. In fact, his so-called «brilliant acting» is painfully mediocre; there isn’t a single scene in the anime where he performs nearly as good as he is constantly made out to be. In the confession festival, he does this awkward Fortnite dance or whatever, and I kid you not, it’s easily one of the cringiest things I have ever watched. Everyone in the anime apparently thinks it’s amazing, though, and I have absolutely no clue as to why.
As for the other significant characters, there aren’t any besides Tetsuhiko. All the other side characters are treated as complete fodders who are simply there to heighten the idiotic drama, obsess over Sueharu for god knows whatever reason, and resolve plot points whenever it is convenient. I wouldn’t have complained about this that much if the said characters were at least bearable, but it seems like the author only knows how to make them obnoxious. By the end of the anime, I ended up disliking pretty much all of them either due to how bland or unlikeable they were (especially Ooragi—she was SO ANNOYING). And seriously, what is the purpose of those gorilla-looking guys? Could they be any more punchable?
Let’s talk about Tetsuhiko now. Tetsuhiko looks extremely identical to Yakiatsu from AnoHana, and their personalities are actually similar too—if you remove the depth of Yakiatsu and only keep the smartass attitude. Tetsuhiko is that one annoying playboy character that you see in many romance anime, and the fact that he takes up a sizeable portion of the show doesn’t help. Despite his overbearing presence in the series, Tetsuhiko is far from being a fleshed out character. We are suddenly told that he actually has a significant reason behind why he is starting up a film club, but the author completely forgets about it the second he introduces it. What could have been an interesting subplot is quickly vanished into thin air, and Tetsuhiko remains an obnoxious smartass.
One argument fans use against Osamake’s criticisms is that it’s supposed to be a parody of typical romcom/harem anime, so we shouldn’t be taking the series at face value. Here’s the problem, though—Osamake is far from an actual parody. And even if we pretend that it is one, it’s definitely not good at it. Here’s what I mean.
To make a genuinely entertaining parody, first you have to establish that you are being self-aware. There’s no need to be blatant to about it; you simply have to make it apparent or discernible. Then you have to make the parodies clever and unexpected in a way they don’t seem forced and/or provide some sort of insight. Likeable characters are also very important depending on what kind of story we are handling. If it’s a romcom anime for example, you have to make the characters somewhat likeable given they are pretty much the driving force of your show.
Osamake doesn’t have any of that. The show pretends that it is parodying basic tropes and cliches, but then proceeds to use those exact tropes and cliches as serious plot devices. There’s almost never any real sense of irony in the unbelievably awkward events that occur, and even when there is, it doesn’t make the anime much better due to how unlikeable the characters are. Occasionally, Osamake tries to justify it being self-aware by showing satirical third-person perspectives of the romance storyline, but they are always so blatant and uninteresting that it only makes the series more pretentious.
The production side of Osamake is by far its best aspect, and that’s saying something when the said aspect is mediocre at best. The quality of the animation is mostly okay, but unfortunately it worsens drastically from time to time. Sometimes, the characters look like they are deformed or something, and other objects seem abnormal as well. And can I talk about how awful their classroom looks? Seriously, why the hell does it look so gloomy? Can’t you guys buy some damn lights at least?
The soundtrack is satisfactory. The background tracks are surprisingly pretty good, and while the opening is very annoying, the ending isn’t that bad. The voice actors are actually amazing; they pretty much singlehandedly carry the entire show. Some of the not-so-cringey scenes were surprisingly enjoyable solely because of the competent voice actors. Their voices were irritating to listen to sometimes, but that’s because their assigned characters are crap to begin with. If the voice acting had been garbage as well, I would have had a much harder time sitting through this shitfest.
Osamake encompasses everything that is wrong with the romcom genre; it’s an utter failure of a romcom anime. The comedy is painfully unfunny, the romance is incredibly obnoxious, and the drama has less depth than the puddle of water in my backyard. As much of a trainwreck Domestic na Kanojo was and will be, at least it succeeded at keeping me constantly entertained. Osamake isn’t capable of providing that kind of entertainment either. When I first saw the trailer accidentally I was really excited because unlike other rom com animes this anime’s title told us that the childhood friend wouldn’t lose.And ever since then this was in my watch list.
The following review is based on after watching 4 episodes :
Nothing great to mention.
I dont know if its too early to say this but the characters are highly unpredictable since there is very little to no character development. Every time a new episode is released it contradicts the character of the previous episode which leaves me dumbstruck.Anyways after a few more episodes they might concentrate more on character.
Since everything is happening randomly without any logic (due to lack of character development) I cant tell I’m enjoying the show thoroughly.
After the 4th episode I’m contemplating whether to watch it or not since it is also following the generic rom-com path.
. and every person who finished this anime.
Before I begin, let me answer the obvious. Does this show need another bad review? No, of course not. Especially when I’m a few weeks late to the party cause I was on holiday and otherwise too busy with better shows. That being said, I’m gonna write one anyway because my other options include starting work on my dissertation and data wrangling. The choice is obvious.

I’m not an expert on animation/art and anyone who can draw better than me is already doing well in my eyes, so I wasn’t offended by the art for the most part. Though that scene where Sueharu dances at the school festival was skip-worthy.
SOUND 8/10
The mixing was fine, the voice acting above average, and the music generically delightful. Good job, I guess.
CHARACTERS 3/10
Ohhhh boy, here we go.
Sueharu has exactly half a dimension more than your typical harem MC, with the death of his mother and a brightly ascending career crashing down on his head before he even had the chance to grow pubes. Of course, this takes up a minor part of his screen time, the majority being left to cringey one-liners in response to a slightly lewd remark.
Kuro is the first childhood friend introduced, and is probably the strongest character on the show. However, one relationship that’s slightly more complex than «let me cook for you and wash your feet uwu» is not enough to dig the anime out of the hole it burries itself into when it introduces.
Shiro. Jesus Christ do I not care about this girl. Initially there was some mystery with the whole «award winning writer» thing where the parallels I started drawing to Saekano seemed obvious, but nah, why bother ever exploring that part of her character when you can just mention it once every two episodes with her writing a script for a YouTube video.
Momo is a loli.
The others were bad even as bench warmers, let alone the roleplayers they were supposed to be. So many loose ends left to tie even after all 12 episodes, indicating the studio’s/producers’ hopes for a 2nd season but as of now I doubt it will (and hope it won’t) happen.
ENJOYMENT 5/10
While I didn’t sing the anime’s praises, it had moments early on where I was genuinely enjoying the time I was wasting. But yeah, as time went on, the enjoyment dropped exponentially. It’s gonna be a meh from me, dawg.

Like i said, it a classic rom-com show, but also different, it feel kind of rushed but that is alright, 70% of this show is cringey mc doing whatever a normal rom-com mc should be doing, the most cringey part was at the dance show, this anime is like Masamune-kun no Revenge but worse, both of this anime is the mc trynna get revenge after he found out the girl he liked got a bf, so I suggest u watch Masamune-kun no Revenge it has way better plot.

Before I get into how much and why I hate this series, I’ll say the things I like about it.
It has a pretty good op and ed.
TL;DR show bad and I hate Kuro
This would be an anime that would score a borderline at 3 and lower than 5. Its pretty subpar. Having meh characters, and flawed storyline. That’s all I gotta say. Its not the worse in the world however, because there are some good gems into it like the comedy which is there and some pretty decent music which makes up for the issues I have explained earlier.
I wanna also add up that if you want to watch an anime having the same voice actors feat. Ayane, Inori and Matsuoka, then try out Quintessential Quintuplets. They have the complete comedy, storyline, and character development into it. Or if you want a romcom anime that has comedy and complete storyline into it, then there are other animes out there that has decent romcom. Yea, you might tell me, what are the anime romcoms recommended to watch? Well, I can’t tell because there are a LOT i have seen in the past and in the current day, so might as well get into it.

Not only this comment they should see, but also the other reviews I have read about this anime, which I really agree or disagree. Note that I’m not copying their reviews. I just see what anime are they trying to show me and then give my thoughts into it.

Now I’m gonna continue my journey to the next anime to watch and review. I will give hope to this by redeeming themselves.
But if they don’t then I really see nothing. NOTHING! But just the same loop.
Even for a romcom, Osamake was subpar, despite its stellar cast. Writing, pacing, directing, and even animation were just mediocre.
The worst had to be the MC himself. He’s supposed be gifted, but the writing is so mediocre, he comes off as an amateur, despite having a great voice actor in Matsuoka Yoshitsugu. Not even his comedic delivery could save this guy.
There are some good story concepts here and there, but they’re never quite taken advantage of as the story flies past them. Still, there were some bright spots and I had a chuckle or two. Unfortunately, the writing kept them from shining brighter.
I feel like the anime title wanted me to believe this would be a different kind of romcom anime, like there would something different, maybe along the lines of «Are You The Only One Who Loves Me» or even «Oreshura». It’s not like they were great, but at least there were some fun twists.
This story didn’t even have that. Oh it has twists, but they weren’t fun. They weren’t fun at all. They were boring and aggravating. I kept waiting for the hook, but in 9 episodes so far, I haven’t seen it.
So thus the «5». It’s not that it’s «bad» it’s just average. Typically I can have fun with a good romcom, but the characters in this one are pretty grating so it can be frustrating at times.
Once the story gets past that initial bit of trolling, and is done patting itself on the back for being so clever, it becomes apparent that this show is exactly as bland as it first seemed, and has nothing going for it. Watching this while it was simulcast was a nightmare because the ever-expanding cast of characters are so forgettable that it took me half of each weekly episode to remember some semblance of who everyone was. When it turns out that one of the potential love interests has three nondescript sisters who are all in love with the main character too, the show’s signal-to-noise ratio takes a nosedive and never recovers. There are so many dull characters knocking around, and I didn’t care about any of them. There is no best girl here, and by the end I couldn’t care less who the main character would end up dating. This is a one-cour adaptation of an ongoing LN series though, so obviously the answer is that we never find out.
Suspension of disbelief is a key concept in stories, and great anime contain some of the wildest examples of pulling off this trick. I can believe in a world where people transform into titans. I can believe in a world where teenage wizards summon ancient heroes to fight as their proxies. But I can’t believe in a world where this show’s main character is fawned over by everyone as a world-class entertainer. His dance routine in one episode looks like a toddler having a seizure on an ice-skating rink. At that point I was convinced that this had to be a genre parody, but it’s not. The whole sorry mess is played with an earnestness that boggles the mind.
The structure also gets looser as it goes along, reaching its nadir in one of the weakest final episodes in recent memory, a non-stop barrage of blunt monologues that desperately try to tug at the heartstrings as the clock ticks down to the end of the series, and fall woefully short. Then, in a bizarre move, a couple of minor characters (who I had no memory of by that point) start doing a blow-by-blow sports-style commentary of everything that happened in the last few episodes. This is the in the final episode. The climax. By that point I was really just taking one for the team, so I could write this review from a fully informed position, and tell you not to waste your precious time.
Really disappointed with how this show went. As others have said, started with a great premise and solid first few episodes. Even the early twist was good IMO, because it set up an interesting dynamic where there wasn’t a question of who liked who from the viewer perspective, but rather an issue of everyone overcoming the awkwardness of teenage emotions and mistakes.
Things went SERIOUSLY downhill after that though. Only one love interest was a truly genuine, kind person who tried to support Haru, while the other two were constantly being manipulative and self-serving.
The finale was pretty awful too. It effectively invalidates everything that happened and resets all the relationships to pretty near where they’d been to start with, except the least deserving character got a free pass on their BS.
The most fun I had watching this show was basically asking myself «what psychopathic bullshit is Kuro going to do this week?»
I held out hope until the very end that they would do something original, or at minimum really dig into what makes each love interest better or worse. But nope. Only the MC has any substantive character development, and it’s not enough to be fulfilling.
This show has several problems:

The story moves too damn fast! In episode 1 we get to a point where other romcoms would not arrive until half a season in. Events that would normally evolve over 2 or 3 episodes start and get resolved in far less than one single episode. The story has no room to breathe, everything feels rushed and «let’s get over with it».
Art: 5
Kinda meh. The bare minimum required to not stand out in a negative way.
Sound: 5
Unremarkable. Basic ambient music.

Not gonna lie, the designs of the girls are cute and fit their personalities. The cast is fine and I would like to have seen them in a show with better plot.

I was pretty invested in the love triangle at first, but now that more and more girls enter the harem, I’m losing interest. What IS even the plot? The MC returning to show business? I couldn’t care less about that.

I kept watching it just hoping all of this rushed story would make sense. It didn’t. It’s rare for me to drop a show that I have watched that far in (hell, I even finished «Kamisama ni Natta Hi»), but this show has lost all favors it initially had.

This show was such a raging dumpster fire I felt the need to write about it.
Osamake is objectively garbage but it is by far the series I enjoyed the most this season. All of it was just such an incomprehensible mess that it just made sense, you know. The characters were generic, the story was mediocre, actually no it was pretty bad, the sound and art were great, no complaint there.
It was all just so beautiful.
Hope we get more shows like this next season.
You know what? I am satisfied. Not because this show is good or anything profound like that, but because I’ve actually enjoyed myself after having had a pretty large dry spell between the last trashy harem I liked to this trashy harem I like. And my god, you just had to get both Matsuoka Yoshitsugu and Shimazaki Nobunaga in this thing too now didn’t you?
If I had to put it simply, Osamake is a series of thinly veiled catfights between three girls that all try to get with the same guy that they each proclaim as being their first love. Each arc/set of episodes is effectively a new situation where Suehara interacts with the show business world in some capacity only to have the three girls stumble their way into the plot somehow and attempt to earn brownie points with Suehara via Death Note mental mind games in order to become the winner in the end. All ending in a little interaction with the token best friend character and another dude that loses his role entirely after the first arc where they talk about who ‘won’ in the arc and where the standings of the three girls lie. More often than not, I find that the plot doesn’t actually matter all that much because a majority of the show is centered around the constant infighting or attempted shots at romance where the girls find new (and sometimes stupid) ways of getting Suehara to look their way. And I love it.
More often than not I found myself amused by how consistent the show attempts to make itself seem smart given the constant scheming and uncharacteristic shots or closeups of the girls falling into their own imagination or perception of what’s either going to come their way, or what the ultimate outcome will be. In a way, it feels like an ‘edgy romance’ where sometimes, any actual attraction to the trophy we call a protagonist is forgone in favor of more sparks between the girls where one flaunts their current position over the others, or ‘fatal’ mistakes cause one to fall behind in one aspect, but they’re good in a different aspect so it’s not hopeless just yet. Now does this make the show good? Absolutely not. Because of its arc-based story structure and general plot set up, Osamake tends to fall back on a lot of romcom stereotypes, and there’s hardly anything here that you won’t find anywhere else. Credit where credit is due though, I will say that the show manages to keep a pretty consistent thread of showbiz and related topics on the subject of showbiz throughout its runtime, so if anything, the show has that going for it as a bit of intrigue since not everything is just your bog standard high school romance series. Now do they show all of what’s happening with the showbiz stuff before cutting to the ending current standings talk? No, but I guess that would’ve required more runtime that the show didn’t have.
In the end however, there’s not too much else I can really say about the show without piecing it apart into stereotype after stereotype. You got some perverted moments, the beach episode, some unnecessary scenes where mob characters are annoyingly jealous of the MC, and a large amount of bait and switch moments where the main character and one of the girls seems to get closer but ultimately goes nowhere because yay harem series. All wrapped up in a more emotional final arc as a way to give the series a proper climax that ends up just kind of ending in an unsatisfactory fashion cause no much actually happens to drive the plot forward in a meaningful fashion. Which is a shame, but I’m used to stories like this not having resolutions.
Now, would calling Maru Suehara a ‘generic harem protagonist’ be that far from the truth? No. But, I think that kind of generalizes his character more than it should. For one thing, Suehara practically is the series. Each arc for the most part centers around Suehara’s relationship with the show business world, so much so that every bit of the show thereafter the reveal is basically an extension of his character growth from his early retirement to what he wants to do with it now. It’s kind of rare to find a harem series that devotes this much time to building up its main character, and it’s nice to see a harem protagonist for once taking the spotlight in the show with a fairly in-depth backstory instead of the girls. That being said, stripping that away from him, and he’s kind of…ordinary. Like there’s not much else about him aside from that, and a lot of his reactions and interactions with the trio of girls chasing after him are akin to a lot of tried and true stereotypes that feel unfortunately familiar to other things I’ve seen before.
As for the girls, well…honestly, Momo, Shiro, and Kuro all kind of the same character with different layers of paint over them. All three of them have some kind of childhood connection to Suehara, so much so that it effectively encapsulates their character in a way that strips them of any individuality, and all of them fight each other for control/better standing in the battle of romance for their first love. The only real different one could say they have would be the different niches they fill, that being the ‘little sister’, ‘next door neighbor’, and ‘cool beauty’ tropes respectively with various sliders of the archetypes moved around in order to make them a little more unique to what they ordinarily would be. Putting them all together though does make for some interesting catfights, and the relationships they each have with one another as rivals is definitely the bread and butter with the series in terms of what kind of potential enjoyment one could get out of this show.
And finally we get to the tertiary cast which includes the supporting elements of the show like Tetsuhiko, the best friend character who schemes and works for his own benefit more so than the benefit of others, varying family members of the main trio of girls, and Rena, who just kind of exists as a supporting member who draws in some of the protagonist’s attention away from the other girls because it was imperative that she had a bust somewhat disproportionate to her less than average height. Nonetheless, I kind of like the supporting cast this time, at least those in the immediate party with the protagonists, cause it helps give that slight tinge of additional edginess and power dynamics given all of the scheming and otherwise selfish nature of these other characters.
Given what else Doga Kobo has done in the past, I’m not really all that impressed by what Osamake got in terms of artstyle treatment. The whole show screams ‘standard fare’, with parts of the early few episodes looking surprisingly lower quality than what we got in some later scenes. Not that much of a big deal, but overall from the colors to the design of the characters, there really isn’t much that I can say really wows me. This point becomes especially more prominent given how lifeless both the characters’ eyes and hair shimmers look. They’re drawn weirdly flat with much of the shine in them being flat colors with very little depth to them. It definitely stands out by making the show look less budget than it probably is, which is a weird conundrum that I haven’t really seen as a problem elsewhere.
To drive that point even further, animation isn’t exactly something the show has too much of, but weirdly enough the show does have a select few stylish scenes that do work in the show’s favor. At least in terms of being unique. But those are really rare instances that I wouldn’t particularly count towards anything.
“Chance! & Revenge!” by Riko Azuna is an OP I didn’t find myself really attached to, but has some merit for it if only because it has some generally unfamiliar beats in J-pop anime music and stands out for that reason and that reason alone. I wouldn’t put it under the memorable folder, but it’s definitely not a bad song by any means.
As for its ED sister, “Senrykuteki de Yosoku Funou na Love Comedy no Ending Kyoku” (god that’s a mouthful) by the VAs for Kuro and Shiro is one of those Seiyuu songs that I’m not really fond of. It’s got an interesting beat to it and again stands out as a J-pop song, but it feels both weirdly in-place and out of place. It hones onto that ‘edgy romance’ angle that I talked about before, but on the flipside, it falls onto some pretty generic sounding beats and hooks that cause it to also not stick out all that much. All around a really mixed bag of songs that I’m not too fond of.
Aside from the showbiz angle (and potentially the amount of scheming the girls do), there’s not that much about Osamake that I would say makes it stand out. The show effectively plays a bingo card from a roulette of harem tropes that it uses in order to create most of the smaller moments in its plot, effectively drowning out the more interesting aspects of the show with reused tropes that a majority of the anime community already knows about. And you know what? That’s ok.
Truthfully, the most fun I had with Osamake was just seeing how subpar and often times edgy/trashy it was. The show is exceedingly selfish, with most of its main cast being schemers or narcissists with clear goals that amounted to only benefiting them in the long run. Sure the main protagonist was just a trophy at the end of the day (a trophy with emotional baggage and a surprisingly substantial backstory), but the real fun was watching the three girls try to reverse uno card each other in stupid and childish ways wither with public displays of affection or discussions that sounded more like business compromises or wartime tactics. I cannot stress how serious this show takes itself sometimes, and I genuinely got a kick out of seeing the kind of bullshit everyone ended up trying to do because they were all trying to one up each other.
Yes, this show is really not that amazing and you could stand to find other, better shows that’ll probably be more worth your time, but the fun, dumb “all according to plan” romp that these characters bring is the kind of stuff you can’t really find in the otherwise ‘good’ shows that people seem to try and find these days. Far from a masterpiece for sure, but a high recommendation for dumb, enjoyable romance fun if you’re looking for a stupid harem without a completely but still somewhat worthless protagonist.

Honestly, I have some trouble rating/reviewing this series.
While it did start out as nothing great or special, it was still interesting enough to read on the side. A great example of the ever common harem LN with a lackluster MMC, decent FMCs, and a setting you can otherwise simply ignore.
Just the usual mix of drama, love rivalry, and an ever indecisive MMC.
At least until you reach about volume 8, where this story just turns into a pain to read. The author keeps trying to build nonsensical climaxes. At this point starting to recycle methods he used already.
Just WORSE. Much worse…
While never great, this LN was at least decent in the beginning.
Looking up to volume 6 or 7, I’d have judged this series with an overall rating of
But now it frankly turned into a collection of unlikeable characters, uninteresting plots, and love ‘schemes’ that reached a level of stupidity that start to hurt mentally.

Likely no. While still ongoing, I don’t see any future potential here. But if you are utterly bored or don’t mind some random mental gymnastics, sure, go for it.
