Diane is a mysterious and lonely teenager. Sharing special bonds with her father Christian, she takes care of the education of her brother Marc. The arrival of Julia in the neighborhood, a charismatic and liberated young British woman, is going to disturb Diane’s daily life. Desperately willing to become an adult, Diane is going to live, for a semester, the most shattering experiences of her life. The more she gets close to Julia, the more she gets irresponsible, ignoring consequences and limits to her desires.

Delphine Lehericey’s film about teenage angst had an ambiance like that of Lolita meets a Catherine Breillat film. Diane (Solene Rigot), Julia (Audrey Bastien), and Christian (Vincent Perez of Indochine, The Libertine, and Beyond the Clouds) make up the characters. Christian is Diane’s father and the mother is absent. Christian doesn’t know how to be a father. Diane’s daily life is waking up her little brother, making coffee and going to school. She is an awkward teenager whose physiology is changing. When Diane meets Julia she begins to give in to peer pressure. Diane begins drinking large amounts of alcohol, smoking, and experimenting with intercourse. Julia’s parents try to expose these teenagers to…

I love me a good ol’ coming-of-age movie every now and then, and who better to do it than the French? I mean, teenagers are the worst, but I do find them fascinating creatures.

Puppylove isn’t doing anything new, though. It’s actually pretty typical, almost a blueprint coming-of-age story checking all the boxes; Angsty teenage girl who lives with her divorced dad befriends the sexually promiscuous girl that moves in next door and together they get into a bunch of hijinks until it takes a bit of a dark turn towards the end.

So no, it’s not adding much to the «genre», and even though it feels like you’ve seen all of this in different other titles, I still quite…

French coming of age films just have their own vibe. “Puppylove” explores puberty as a time of change, confusion, and sexual curiosity that is challenging for both teenagers and parents. It follows the lonely and alienated girl Diane, whose friendship with her more experienced neighbor Julia leads her on a journey of self-discovery that is full of inappropriate situations. The film is discomforting, awkward, and shocking at times and has a sad, melancholic undercurrent, but it´s always honest and empathetic. Solène Rigot´s tender performance and the authentic complicated father/daughter relationship are the highlights for me. Nevertheless, I couldn´t help but think that I´ve already seen all of the themes and story beats explored better in other movies. “Puppylove” has nothing that makes it stand out among other coming of age films and it´s easy to forget. Still, if you´re in the mood for 90 minutes of teenage angst French-style, this film could be for you.

Running through your tennis court into something much larger. Stasis of sleep, effectively, is an isolation where rest can feel longer than a while. Rest with multiple bodies, the sequential movement of one pushing to the other pushing to you, as you are the final pin, taps times much different than any normal day. If it’s fun, or if it’s intuition. It’s kept to the wiser who throw themselves into last seen trees.

Continuing with my exploration of Solène Rigot’s performances, it’s pleasant to see her at the center of this one, playing Diane, a girl on the threshold between puberty and adolescence. Diane is magnetically drawn to her best friend Julia, ostensibly because Julia breaks down barriers Diane is too insecure to confront herself, though it’s really a more visceral, and tragic, attraction (Akerman’s Portrait of a Young Girl. comes immediately to mind). I like the edgy places this goes, and Rigot is fantastic inhabiting that liminal space between 14 and 15, between yes and no, between straight and queer, between horror and delight.

I have to say, straight off the bat, Vincent Perez has still got it. He may be pushing 50 but he’s gotten hotter with every year. It doesn’t hurt that Christian, his scruffy single father character in Delphine Lehericey’s Puppy Love is more affable than humanly possible. He’s aware, emotional mature and a fantastic father, even if he is a little lost at times.

All that may sound a strange thing to pick up from a film that is basically a shared coming of age drama about two high school girls busting through puberty in a way that can only really be described as precocious, but in the end (and quite unfortunately) it all turns out to be disturbingly relevant.…

Puppylove reminds me, somewhat, of films like Y tu mama tambien and Thirteen in the sense that it showcases a tumultuous, betrayal-laden coming of age energy.

While not my usual genre, there is something to be said for the way that films of these ilk leave you feeling. It brings back a distinct rawness and a sense of fragility that most adults over the age of 30, I believe, have long left forgotten.

I enjoyed it, although I think others have been done better.

В свои четырнадцать Диана (Солен Риго) чувствует себя очень одинокой. Она занимается воспитанием своего младшего брата Марка и с трудом поддерживает непростые отношения со своим отцом Кристианом (Венсан Перес). Появление в их районе Джулии (Одри Бастьен), свободолюбивой молодой англичанки, переворачивает жизнь главной героини картины «Юная любовь» (Puppylove) вверх дном.

Диана очень хочет оставить детство позади и отчаянно тянется за своей новой знакомой. Чем ближе она к Джулии, тем все больше героиня фильма «Юная любовь» поворачивается спиной к морали, не задумываясь о последствиях своих желаний…

Этот вопрос задаёт один из персонажей фильма, и произнесенная фраза вполне годится в слоганы. В киноленте пересекаются судьбы нескольких по-настоящему странных людей, которые преподнесены оригинально и увлекательно. Телеведущий, роль которого сыграл сам Чупов, отметил своё сорокалетие – своеобразный критический возраст для мужчины. Он женат на беременной женщине, которую гложет печаль – ребёнок ей не нужен, аборт делать не хочется, жизнь пошла под откос. Героиня не может решиться на что-то конкретное и влюбляется в фокусника. Муж, которому она надоела хуже горькой редьки, тоже находит себе объект вожделения. Окончательно убедившись в своей нетрадиционной ориентации, телеведущий обращается к сексопатологу, и тот, как может, старается его успокоить: не конец же света! Сам же врач тешит себя общением с проститутками: он нанимает их для того, чтобы вымыть им голову. Ещё одна «извращенка» в фильме – пышнотелая дама, которую не подводит только один друг, фаллоимитатор. Конечно, если его батарейки в порядке. А вот если сядут, некий фотограф, обожающий запечатлевать интимные места на плёнку, придёт в неописуемую ярость.

Всё не так, как надо

Исход фильма «Интимные места» заранее предсказать не удастся. Эта кинолента – маскарад, в котором под разными личинами скрыта подлинная суть персонажей. Нормальных людей на свете нет: в той или иной степени способен чудить каждый. Видимо, намёк способность авторов фильма допустить это, вместе со свободой действий и правом выбора, и воодушевил французов. закрыть

Sometimes, it happens that two characters display a startling amount of chemistry, even though they’re both barely old enough to be interested in dating—heck, in an opposite-sex example they might even be making an exception to «Boys/girls have cooties!» (which may help explain their proneness to the Crush Blush; it’s embarrassing!) It may be attempted by the authors if the show deals with characters of that age group, but still wants to add in a romantic subplot.

This trope can be Truth in Television as many people get their first crush sometime during elementary school. And sometimes this can turn into a lifelong marriage/relationship. although that is extraordinarily rare.

Sometimes, a couple that’s a bit older will reference this as their backstory; one partner (usually a woman) says she started chasing the other (usually a man) back when they were kids, and that «it took me X years to catch him—but it was worth it.»
