Stone Story RPG – игровое пополнение в мире РПГ, где тебе предстоит окунуться в темный, жуткий и хранящий в себе массу мрачных секретов мир. Здесь ты, в роли главного героя, отправишься на территорию небольшого королевства, которое погрязло в больших проблемах. Все дело в том, что его территорию стремительно стали заполнять всевозможные представители злых сил и теперь тебе необходимо с ними справится, что сделать будет не так уж и просто. Дабы вернуть миру было спокойствие, безопасность и равновесие, тебе необходимо исполнить очень важную миссию. Задача заключается в том, чтобы собрать девять камней души, которые помогут тебе побороть зло и достичь поставленной цели. Особенностью игры является то, что напрямую ты не будешь взаимодействовать со своим главным героем. Так, к примеру, ты не сможешь исследовать локации вокруг себя либо собирать полезные ресурсы – за тебя это будет делать искусственный интеллект. От тебя потребуется хорошая реакция и смекалка, ведь во всех возникающих ситуациях принятие решений будет лежать именно на тебе. Отправляйся в путь и одолей зло.

Welcome to the Stone Story RPG Wiki
Stone Story is an RPG set in a dark and ominous world, animated entirely in ASCII symbols. Journey through a cursed land to unite 10 magic Soul Stones and restore the light.
The game takes elements from various genres and repackages them into a wholly unique experience. One of Stone Story’s defining mechanics is that you have no direct control of the player character, as an A.I. does all the exploring, combat and looting. Though this is an auto-RPG, that doesn’t mean it’s an idle game. Potions and special abilities are maximized by good timing. Boss fights are intense, requiring quick item swaps if the boss changes patterns.

Last Sunday, we finished off our fifth StoneJam, a community-driven event that has once again brought us great minigames, crazy cosmetics, and unique UIs. We’re also extremely happy to share that industrious players have completed TWO Bounties (Asteroids and Blackjack)!
Some Bounties still remain and will continue to be open for any players to tackle. If you’re interested in giving them a shot, take a look through this document. We encourage any and all curious players to try!

It’s been a few weeks since we dropped “The Initiate”, Stone Story RPG’s 11th Legend. If you’ve been following our posts, you may recall that we originally said that the game would get 16 Legends….
…and you’d be correct! We’ve still got some Legends that have been sitting on the backburner. They’re mostly done, we just need to finalize implementation of them in-game. We appreciate your patience as our team works on getting more content added.
It’s been quite a juggling act on our end, because we’re not just working on new content; preparations for the Stone Story mobile port are underway! We’re getting the team together and discussing various factors that will affect work on mobile, including marketing strategy, budget planning, mobile player UX, and much more.
We’ve got plenty in the works for this game and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon!

Following in the footsteps of her fellow bosses, Bolesh brings some footsteps of her own!
From now until April 18th, Stone Story RPG will be running a 2x Loot Event. Complete runs in the Caves of Fear to earn this extra loot.
This time around, however, we’re doing something different: We’ll be increasing the average quality of loot that drops, rather than increasing the average quantity of loot drops. This way, the drops are still random, but the statistical distribution of treasure quality is weighted higher.
What does this practically mean for you? We expect the event to allow for better treasure types, such as Deltas and Omegas, to appear twice as frequently. Doesn’t sound like too bad of a deal, huh?

We’re very nearly wrapped up with StoneJam 5! Thank you to all the participants for sharing your incredible work.
StoneJam was originally conceived as a way for our community to engage more deeply with Stone Story RPG. As the game grew, so did Stonescript and the ways that players could use it. Every new StoneJam has been an opportunity to experiment and push the boundaries of what is possible with a bit of technical knowledge and a LOT of creativity.
StoneJam 5 has continued to expand what we thought possible within Stone Story RPG. From small animal pets to combat scripts to detailed UI interfaces, our players never cease to amaze us with what they can do!

For this event we wanted to try out something new. In the upcoming 2x Loot Event, Bolesh will be doubling the QUALITY of the loot rather than the QUANTITY.
What does this mean for you? To be honest, we have no idea! We thought we’d give it a shot to see how players react, so if you’re looking to score some good loot now would be the time to do it.

StoneJam was conceived as a way to experiment with Stonescript, a robust scripting language built directly into Stone Story RPG. Easy to use yet powerful, scripts can be as simple as automating potions if your health gets low, optimizing combat to superhuman levels, or even creating new cosmetics and UI features!
Instructions are entered into the Mind Stone* with Stonescript, a minimalist language designed for use by everyone. If you don’t want to script, use the Mind Stone as your canvas to create ASCII art!

This patch introduces a new system for building complex and performant user interfaces. This is comprised of four object types: Panel, Button, Text and Anim. All of them inherit behavior from the common ‘Component’ type. The top-level UI namespace has also gained a few functions. See the Stonescript manual for details. Additions:
UI: ui.root, ui.AddPanel(), ui.AddText(), ui.AddAnim(), ui.AddStyle().
Component: x, y, w, h, absoluteX, absoluteY, anchor, dock, ax, ay, dx, dy, parent, visible.

Recently we added the R&D Book to Stone Story RPG, a compendium that encourages players to experiment with Lost Items to earn enchanted rewards, and we’d like to talk about how we got around to making it.
As we’ve developed the game, we’ve launched events to accompany new Legends, experiment with mechanics, and celebrate the game with our community. It’s that same community that continually helps us make Stone Story the best it can be!
The R&D Book is an important step in creating a complete experience for as many players as possible. The core idea was to create a system that would scale with our pace of development. Events have been a great way to challenge players and keep things fresh with content updates through Early Access, but we lacked a way to make use of them outside of an event’s original run. That’s where our handy dandy book comes in.
We added the R&D Book to keep record of limited events and allow players to complete ones that they might have missed. This way, even new players can enjoy content without feeling like they’ve missed out on past events!
Though we’re still cranking away at the mobile port, we’re doing our best to keep things active for our community and have plenty of stuff coming down the pipeline.
Like quests! We’ve got 4 more Legends in the works alongside 3 new Lost Items (such as the Crusader Shield below) and more Challenge Events, but everything requires time to reach a good state of polish. Thank you for your patience as we try to juggle ports, content, and other crazy stuff on our end.
Meanwhile, if you want a chance to flex your Stonescript skills, get ready for the return of StoneJam! Our community has submitted so many cool and creative scripts in the past and we can’t wait to see what people come up with this time.

Боссы требуют от игрока быстрой реакции, ведь предстоит успевать нажимать на оригинальные целебные или бонусные зелья. Система крафта помогает использовать найденные материалы и редкие металлы в качестве создания нового вооружения или полезной экипировки. В процессе представлены сотни вещей с оригинальными характеристиками и дополнительными способностями. Основной сюжет проходится за 8 часов геймплея, а большая часть контента генерируется процедурным образом.

Главной особенностью игры является то, что вы не можете напрямую управлять героем, вместо вас это делает продвинутый ИИ. Одна из определяющих механик игры заключается в том, что у вас нет прямого контроля над персонажем. Вы выбираете какие предметы экипировать и куда пойти, расслабляетесь в то время, как искусственный интеллект делает всё остальное.
Это не значит, что это idle-игра, которая не требует вашего присутствия и играет сама в себя. Бои с боссами интенсивны и требуют быстрой смены предметов, если босс изменяет шаблон своего поведения. Кроме того, система крафта позволяет вам комбинировать разнообразные предметы и вознаграждает эксперименты, давая вам интересный выбор и в полной мере используя всю собранную добычу.

Я хотел создать простую, но принципиально уникальную систему крафта. Есть старая веб-игра под названием Little Alchemy, которая запомнилась мне как отличная деконструкция игрового дизайна. В этой игре вы объединяете 2 вещи, которые вы уже обнаружили, чтобы сделать новую вещь, с целью найти все комбинации. Это просто, но очень весело.

События игры происходят в мрачном потемневшем мире, в котором злыми силами был украден свет. Теперь повсюду мрак и темнота, а сам мир был заполонен монстрами и странными существами. Нужно вернуть этому миру свет во что бы то ни стало, и только вы можете это сделать. Для этого вам понадобиться отправиться в долгое и опасное путешествие, в котором вы должны будете найти 9 камней души…
Главная же особенность этой игры заключается в ее визуальном оформлении. Тут вы не найдете красивых пейзажей или детализированных текстур, а сам мир нарисован на темном фоне и изображен с помощью символов и знаков. Вы будете видеть лишь контуры, не более того…
Что до геймплея, так он в Stone Story RPG наследует механики известнейших игр. Тут вам и исследование окружающего мира, и сбор ресурсов, и создание различных предметов, и выполнение многочисленных заданий, и многое-многое другое. Скучать точно не придется. А самое главное заключается в том, что половиной процессов будет управлять ИИ, и вам нужно будет лишь успевать вовремя нажимать нужные кнопки, чтоб главный герой осуществлял те или иные действия.

С чего начать
Если вы еще не дошли до того момента, когда вам открывается возможность комбинировать предметы, вам необходимо собрать три куска металла. Из них можно будет собрать молот кузнеца и наковальню. Находятся эти три куска в следующих локациях:

Учитывайте, что для создания предмета с 1 звездой вам потребуется два обычных предмета, для крафта двухзвездного предмета – два однозвездных и так далее.
Для создания предметов с рунным камнем можно использовать любой из рунных камней в игре, в числе которых Руны Энергии, Руны Эфира и другие…

From now until April 18th, Stone Story RPG will be running a 2x Loot Event. Complete runs in the Caves of Fear to earn this extra loot.
This time around, however, we’re doing something different: We’ll be increasing the average quality of loot that drops, rather than increasing the average quantity of loot drops. This way, the drops are still random, but the statistical distribution of treasure quality is weighted higher.
What does this practically mean for you? We expect the event to allow for better treasure types, such as Deltas and Omegas, to appear twice as frequently. Doesn’t sound like too bad of a deal, huh?

We’re very nearly wrapped up with StoneJam 5! Thank you to all the participants for sharing your incredible work.
StoneJam was originally conceived as a way for our community to engage more deeply with Stone Story RPG. As the game grew, so did Stonescript and the ways that players could use it. Every new StoneJam has been an opportunity to experiment and push the boundaries of what is possible with a bit of technical knowledge and a LOT of creativity.
StoneJam 5 has continued to expand what we thought possible within Stone Story RPG. From small animal pets to combat scripts to detailed UI interfaces, our players never cease to amaze us with what they can do!

StoneJam was conceived as a way to experiment with Stonescript, a robust scripting language built directly into Stone Story RPG. Easy to use yet powerful, scripts can be as simple as automating potions if your health gets low, optimizing combat to superhuman levels, or even creating new cosmetics and UI features!
Instructions are entered into the Mind Stone* with Stonescript, a minimalist language designed for use by everyone. If you don’t want to script, use the Mind Stone as your canvas to create ASCII art!

This patch introduces a new system for building complex and performant user interfaces. This is comprised of four object types: Panel, Button, Text and Anim. All of them inherit behavior from the common ‘Component’ type. The top-level UI namespace has also gained a few functions. See the Stonescript manual for details. Additions:

Recently we added the R&D Book to Stone Story RPG, a compendium that encourages players to experiment with Lost Items to earn enchanted rewards, and we’d like to talk about how we got around to making it.
As we’ve developed the game, we’ve launched events to accompany new Legends, experiment with mechanics, and celebrate the game with our community. It’s that same community that continually helps us make Stone Story the best it can be!
The R&D Book is an important step in creating a complete experience for as many players as possible. The core idea was to create a system that would scale with our pace of development. Events have been a great way to challenge players and keep things fresh with content updates through Early Access, but we lacked a way to make use of them outside of an event’s original run. That’s where our handy dandy book comes in.
We added the R&D Book to keep record of limited events and allow players to complete ones that they might have missed. This way, even new players can enjoy content without feeling like they’ve missed out on past events!
Though we’re still cranking away at the mobile port, we’re doing our best to keep things active for our community and have plenty of stuff coming down the pipeline.
Like quests! We’ve got 4 more Legends in the works alongside 3 new Lost Items (such as the Crusader Shield below) and more Challenge Events, but everything requires time to reach a good state of polish. Thank you for your patience as we try to juggle ports, content, and other crazy stuff on our end.
Meanwhile, if you want a chance to flex your Stonescript skills, get ready for the return of StoneJam! Our community has submitted so many cool and creative scripts in the past and we can’t wait to see what people come up with this time.

This tutorial covers the basics of adding cosmetic mods and unlocking new mini-games that are layered on top of Stone Story. The game’s built-in language, Stonescript, began as a tool to optimize farming, with just enough commands to drink potions and swap weapons at the right time. With version 2.8 the language got a major upgrade, unlocking huge potential for modding.
This assumes you’ve found the Mind Stone item. If you’re a new player and don’t have it yet, but want to get modding right away, there is a cheatcode to unlock it early: Go to the main menu’s ‘Codes’ screen and type ‘import’. You should see a new Workstation option that says ‘Automate’.

One obvious cosmetic are cute pets that follow you around. You can design your own, but let’s start with the Frog which comes packaged by default with the game.
1. The key addition in 2.8 is the ‘import’ command. To add the Pet Frog go to your Mind Stone and type
«import Cosmetics/PetFrog»
2. Visit any location to see the frog hopping and following your moves. Make sure your Mind Stone is powered on!
3. You can customize the frog’s color by locating the PetFrog.txt script that is included in your save file directory. On Windows it would be at:

Another hot cosmetic are hats. Let’s create a new hat, it’s very easy. For this to work you will need to beat the game’s main story and have the big head turned on.
1. Open your Mind Stone and add the following script. This is a command that draws relative to the player’s head:

tip: During a run you can press ‘M’ to edit the Mind Stone. No need to exit to the Workstation.
3. Customize the color (change #yellow to something else) and edit the ASCII-art to come up with your own hat designs.
tip: You can call the draw command multiple times to compose a multi-colored hat.
Next, let’s move your hat script into an external file, which is great practice. External files makes it easy to share and easy to turn scripts on/off.
4. Inside the Cosmetics folder, next to the PetFrog.txt, create a new text file and name it MyHat.txt
5. Open MyHat.txt and copy the hat code from the Mind Stone to the external file. Save it.

You may notice next to the Cosmetics folder another folder called Games. Stone Story 2.8 comes with 3 mini-games that are still in development. All are playable, but the most complete game right now is Blackjack. Let’s play it!

Crafting
Crafting is the primary way you will get stronger in SSRPG. It allows you to upgrade items, break apart items, fuse enchants, and mutate items.

Upgrade Item
Here you combine items to make other items. All recipes can be found in your Crafting Booklet.
Break Apart Item
Separates items from each-other. Can be used to revert what you have combined together. There is no loss in materials when breaking apart items. To separate multiple of the same item at once, the buttons on the side of the item you want to separate can be used.
The Break Completely button will allow you to further separate the items down to their core parts.
Trying to break apart an enchanted item will cost Ki. Doing so will separate the enchantment from the item instead of breaking the item apart straight off. This allows you to safely transfer one item’s enchantment to another item via Upgrading or Fusing.
Brew Potion
Through the Brew Potion menu, you can brew different potions, containing up to two different materials. Depending on which materials you put in the Empty Bottle, different potions will be created. You may only have one potion at a time.
To create a potion when you already have one, combine them and you will get a confirmation message.
The Auto-Refill option will allow you to automatically refill the potion using the same materials as your current potion between loops. The potion is refilled automatically if you loop using the Ouroboros Stone.
Fuse Enchant
To Fuse Enchantments, put the item you want to Fuse Enchantments into in the middle and put three other items that have an enchantment level in the surrounding slots. What level the item will become depends on the level of Enchantment the surrounding Items have.
The percentage bar to the center item tells you how close you are to gaining an Enchantment level.
Mutate
Allows you to re-roll the Runestone effect of an item for example to change a runestone staff between A/D/dU/etc
Stone Story RPG – Crafting Recipes
This is just simply a rudimentary guide to unlocking crafting recipes. I’ll tell you how to access the crafting page, as well as all 35 recipes in the game.

How to Access Crafting
When you start a game, you will start off at the Rocky Plateau. To get to crafting, you simply need to continue until you are able to choose your actions freely. So for now, select “Build a Shelter Door” which costs 5 stones.
You’ll be able to explore Deadwood Canyon now. Go through and once you reach the end, leave. You will now have an option to “Build Workstation.” This is technically the first step to crafting. You should already have enough materials (2 Stones & 7 Wood) build it.
Next, tools will appear as craftables in your workstation. This is not traditionally how things are crafted, so don’t get used to this menu. For now, build both the Shovel and the Hatchet. I had just enough stones to craft them.
Now that you have the Shovel, go back into your locations and select “Prospect Cliff” you’ll come up with a (Dirty) Sword. Go into your items and equip it. At this point, I would also change your secondary from Stone Throwing to the Hatchet.
Go back into your workstation and clean your blade. You don’t need to go back to equip the item, it should just be in your hand still. At this point, you’ll have an option to “Upgrade Workstation” with a somewhat steep resource requirement. Go to Deadwood Canyon. You should have enough wood going through once, especially because you chopped up the Ent (At least I think it’s an Ent…) that was blocking your way. You should also have a treasure chest. Go into your items and open it up. You should have received a Metal Chunk. This is 1/3. Lets keep going.
This time, equip your Shovel. and head back to the Rocky Plateau. Don’t worry, there’s no enemies here. In fact, your health won’t even show up on the bottom left. You’ll eventually reach a mound of dirt and start digging. Eventually, you’ll retrieve another Metal Chunk. That’s 2/3.
Go into your workstation and finally upgrade it. You’ll be able to go into your locations again and “Dig Wall Fissure.” You’ll unlock Caves of Fear. If you forgot to change your equipment before you entered, that’s okay. You can pause the game on the bottom right and change your items there. I would recommend re-equipping your Sword and Hatchet again. It doesn’t say, but the attack speed is the same as the Sword, and each swing doing 1 damage, you’re essentially dual wielding for now. Once you get through to the end, you’ll find a Star Stone. This does two things; One, all previous areas now have a difficulty in stars. Obviously 1-star is easiest and 5-star is the hardest. Two, the Star Stone also acts as a resource vacuum, letting you pick up stuff on the floor without your character physically walking over there, bending over, and picking it up.
I would recommend going back to the Rocky Plateau to get some more items before you venture onto the next part, but it’s optional. It does make everything easier though.
Go back to Deadwood Canyon. Equipping your Star Stone and Hatchet will make you breeze through this while collecting everything. Once you encounter some enemies, switch to your Sword. At this point, I also had a Shield thanks to unlocking a chest back in the previous paragraph, so I made it through the stronger monster. You should receive a chest and your final Metal Chunk.
In your workstation, you should have an option to “Craft Smithy Hammer,” and after you do so, you should be able to “Craft Anvil.”
Congratulations, you’ve fully unlocked crafting.
What to Do Before Crafting
Now before you get into serious crafting, I would recommend getting the Ouroboros Stone, which allows you to loop the section that you were at freely. This lets you get treasure chests without any effort after a certain point.
You can get the Ouroboros Stone after fighting the boss in the 3-star Mushroom Forest. One thing to note though is that there is a limit on how many treasure chests you can hold; 150 at any time. And opening them takes about 1 second each, so set aside 2.5-3 minutes when you come back and open your loot.
Also somewhat useful (but definitely not needed because this guide exists), is the Crafting Book. It shows you what recipes you’ve discovered. You can get this when you enter the Mushroom Shop and purchase two things using Ki.

The ORDER of what weapon you put in matters at higher upgrades, because that determines WHAT effect your runes have.

Last Sunday, we finished off our fifth StoneJam, a community-driven event that has once again brought us great minigames, crazy cosmetics, and unique UIs. We’re also extremely happy to share that industrious players have completed TWO Bounties (Asteroids and Blackjack)!

It’s been a few weeks since we dropped “The Initiate”, Stone Story RPG’s 11th Legend. If you’ve been following our posts, you may recall that we originally said that the game would get 16 Legends….
…and you’d be correct! We’ve still got some Legends that have been sitting on the backburner. They’re mostly done, we just need to finalize implementation of them in-game. We appreciate your patience as our team works on getting more content added.
It’s been quite a juggling act on our end, because we’re not just working on new content; preparations for the Stone Story mobile port are underway! We’re getting the team together and discussing various factors that will affect work on mobile, including marketing strategy, budget planning, mobile player UX, and much more.
We’ve got plenty in the works for this game and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon!

Following in the footsteps of her fellow bosses, Bolesh brings some footsteps of her own!
From now until April 18th, Stone Story RPG will be running a 2x Loot Event. Complete runs in the Caves of Fear to earn this extra loot.
This time around, however, we’re doing something different: We’ll be increasing the average quality of loot that drops, rather than increasing the average quantity of loot drops. This way, the drops are still random, but the statistical distribution of treasure quality is weighted higher.
What does this practically mean for you? We expect the event to allow for better treasure types, such as Deltas and Omegas, to appear twice as frequently. Doesn’t sound like too bad of a deal, huh?

We’re very nearly wrapped up with StoneJam 5! Thank you to all the participants for sharing your incredible work.
StoneJam was originally conceived as a way for our community to engage more deeply with Stone Story RPG. As the game grew, so did Stonescript and the ways that players could use it. Every new StoneJam has been an opportunity to experiment and push the boundaries of what is possible with a bit of technical knowledge and a LOT of creativity.
StoneJam 5 has continued to expand what we thought possible within Stone Story RPG. From small animal pets to combat scripts to detailed UI interfaces, our players never cease to amaze us with what they can do!

Easy to use yet powerful, scripts can be as simple as automating potions if your health gets low, optimizing combat to superhuman levels, or even creating new cosmetics and UI features!

All of them inherit behavior from the common ‘Component’ type. The top-level UI namespace has also gained a few functions. See the Stonescript manual for details. Additions:

Recently we added the R&D Book to Stone Story RPG, a compendium that encourages players to experiment with Lost Items to earn enchanted rewards, and we’d like to talk about how we got around to making it.
As we’ve developed the game, we’ve launched events to accompany new Legends, experiment with mechanics, and celebrate the game with our community. It’s that same community that continually helps us make Stone Story the best it can be!
The R&D Book is an important step in creating a complete experience for as many players as possible. The core idea was to create a system that would scale with our pace of development. Events have been a great way to challenge players and keep things fresh with content updates through Early Access, but we lacked a way to make use of them outside of an event’s original run. That’s where our handy dandy book comes in.
We added the R&D Book to keep record of limited events and allow players to complete ones that they might have missed. This way, even new players can enjoy content without feeling like they’ve missed out on past events!
Though we’re still cranking away at the mobile port, we’re doing our best to keep things active for our community and have plenty of stuff coming down the pipeline.
Like quests! We’ve got 4 more Legends in the works alongside 3 new Lost Items (such as the Crusader Shield below) and more Challenge Events, but everything requires time to reach a good state of polish. Thank you for your patience as we try to juggle ports, content, and other crazy stuff on our end.
Meanwhile, if you want a chance to flex your Stonescript skills, get ready for the return of StoneJam! Our community has submitted so many cool and creative scripts in the past and we can’t wait to see what people come up with this time.

Stone Story RPG – Runes, Runestone Items and Advanced Crafting
While researching the different item recipes, I stumbled upon a problem that I think might be addressed here. Runestone Weapons. Their complexity is befuddling when you’re first wading through the crafting process, as there is no tutorial. So, this will explain just a bit more, to allow you guys to tinker.

Runes & What They Do
Runes are items that can be found through treasure chests or purchase within the Mushroom Shop. Runes, by itself, are rather worthless. They do paltry amounts of damage, and have sub-par effects. However, when utilized in crafting, they can turn a good weapon, into a godly weapon.
So far, I’ve found a total of 5 runes:
And they all do different things when crafted together, but I’ll go over those in the Runestone Weapons section. For now, here’s what they all do respectively…

Runestone Items
Runestone Items are a result of mixing Runes and Stone Wands + Other Materials. In your crafting book, they simply call it a Runestone Item, but in reality there are 6 types of Runestone Items, one for each Rune type and one for Stone Items themselves. When you craft a Runestone Item, you will see a letter indicating what it does in the top left of the item box. Below is an example of an item and it’s effects.

So what do the letters indicate? I actually haven’t found a difference between an uppercase or a lowercase version of the item; so here it is below.
What Each Effect Means
Armor: Armor allows you to create a shield that generates overtime to the maximized value specified on the item. This is only applied on things with a base armor value, which includes weapons that requires a shield to be crafted; i.e. War Hammer.
Damage: Damage gives a boost to the base damage (and in turn, also increases DPS) to a specific type of enemy. This is only applied to things that do not have a base armor value.
Fire: Fire applies x damage over time (DoT), depending on the rarity/star level of your item.
Healing: x% chance to heal x amount when receiving damage. This is only applied on things with a base armor value.
Ice / Chill: Slows down the movement speed and attack speed of the enemy by a certain amount.
Lifesteal: This is inaptly named. You would think that you would heal for a % of damage dealt; as that is how it is usually defined in other games. In this game however, you do not heal for a % of damage dealt. I’m not sure if it’s a bug or not. In this game, lifesteal grants you x% to heal for 1 HP on hit.
Poison: As mentioned before, this is also inaptly named. You would think that you would deal a % of max HP DoT; as that is how it is usually defined in other games. In this game however, you do not have a DoT. In this game, poison reduces your enemy’s damage value per stack. Max stack varies depending on who is the user.
Unmake: Unmake is x% chance to instantly-kill your enemy. I’m not sure if it works on bosses or not, I have yet to test it out.
Advanced Crafting
So what does this all mean for you? Well… It just simply means that if you want to get a specific effect, like an Aether Sword (dU), you have to craft a certain way, otherwise you might get an Aether Sword (D).
The general formula is that whatever effect you want to keep should be on the left, and whatever you’re infusing the effect FROM is on the right. This makes a big difference when you get to your Stone Wands, as they can change depending on where you’ve put it.
So to make it easy on all of us, I’ve put some recipes down below in their respective categories to show as an example. That means there will be some overlaps, but that’s okay, it just reassures what you see. Obviously, this isn’t everything, and I wouldn’t want to do it all anyways, it’s MOSTLY recipes that make itself. The big thing is crafting the wand the correct way.

The other week, we sat down with Stone Story’s sound designer, Rafael Langoni Smith. Rafael has a long and storied career with music, and he brings an incredible spread of talent and experience to the project. We picked his brain about the role of music in video games, how to compose for games, and the evolution of game music at large.

Who you make your music for
You don’t have to be a composer to make a soundtrack, you have to be more of a dramatist. You have to manipulate music in a way that it reminds people of things, where it makes them associate with something they lived in the past. It’s not about doing your music or making your print in the world. It’s not about self-expression, as much as it is expressing whatever the listener has to feel. When you make soundtracks, you work with the cultural references of whoever is listening. Not yours.
As a sound designer you cultivate an emotional, evocative experience in the player by tapping into shared cultural contexts. Stone Story has these anchor points that much of the soundtrack is based in.
The beautiful thing about making music for our generation is that we have a pool of shared knowledge that’s very deep. Everyone shares a group of influences that comes from the start of video game music, and we have this very emotional, nostalgic connection to each other. We can listen to the same things and communicate; video game music is a very universal means of expression.
Exploring a shared cultural connection
Composing music is somewhat like playing a game withyour audience. It’s true of a lot of creative processes, where you have to imagine how the listener is going to think and feel.
It’s all based on expectations. When you write music and it’s easy to understand, when it’s very referential, when it’s easy to apprehend, it’s like you’re losing the game. You’re letting the listener win, because the music is so easy to “get” and the audience is in a superior position to you as the composer. When you up the bar and make it not so easy to understand, you’re in a more balanced game. You’re dealing with expectations, you’re surprising the person at times, you’re presenting new stuff.
Be confident in your shared cultural background with your listeners in order to explore the language you have from all the games you’ve played throughout your life. You can be pretty sure that everyone who listens to the soundtrack will understand everything that you did. It won’t be easy for them, but that challenge can excite and entice them. The role of sound and music in video games can be thought of as opportunities to make people listen to different stuff and widen their musical horizons.
That might sound contradictory when we say that we’re trying to get people to listen to new things while at the same time tapping into this shared body of knowledge. But it’s like this: everyone that’s playing Stone Story, presumably, will have part of the culture that the development team has. You don’t really get to our game as the first game in your life. It’s likely that if you’ve looked into playing Stone Story it’s because the fact that the graphics are in ASCII mean something to you.
So this person that’s going to play Stone Story has lived throughout decades of video game music that are meaningful. When creating the soundtrack, that can be an advantage. It’s like talking to old friends: you have so much shared history. You can tell them new things, but they’ll have enough in common with you to care about it. Music, when it comes to video games, has developed into a pretty universal language as a way to communicate feelings and thoughts. It’s beautiful to be able to be verbose in that language by bringing new things.
Creating a soundtrack based around the concept of “progression”
One suggestion that came up in the process was each location having seven different incarnations, corresponding to appropriate levels of difficulty. When you start a location in-game, it starts at difficulty 0. Each time you beat it, it gets harder and gains a star. Each time the location gets harder, the music gets more complex. Initial thoughts were “That’s crazy”, as there are eight levels in the game, each with eleven difficulties.
It was a pretty big undertaking that was harder than expected. The original tracks were fully realized, and there wasn’t much to take or put in. They were effectively “full packages” that couldn’t just have instruments removed or added at will. The soundtrack ended up being multiplied.
When the decision was made to create a progression-based soundtrack, most of the music was already done. This made for a bit of a problem, as the music that already been composed was made with equipment that had been setup in a specific way. Once a track was recorded it was near impossible to replicate that exact sound.
Some of the music had to be redone in order to simulate what was done before because Rafael, the sound designer, didn’t note down how sounds were created or recorded. With his gear setup, that was rather difficult to do, as it’s basically an old telephone switchboard: lots of jacks and cables that you can connect to and meters to adjust.
There are so many moving parts to the music that you can’t exactly keep static and have on-hand to reference. They all interact with each other in a way; they’re all distorting together, modulating together, etc. It’s never an accumulation of parts, it’s more of an engine that runs with different parts that all play off of each other.
Stone Story’s Temple location is one of the best examples for this concept of soundtrack progression. At the lowest level of difficulty, the Temple’s music probably has the least amount of action. It begins with these ambient tones that convey an ominous feeling of dread, where the soundtrack has taken a much more suspenseful, dramatic turn. Over time it evolves into a huge, bombastic, overwhelming track.
The style of Stone Story’s music and “post-chiptune”
The style of the music in Stone Story is considered to be «post-chiptune»: it’s what happens after chiptune has gotten through all its cultural consequences. Chiptune has done its original phase, where the technical limitations of the game would dictate what was and wasn’t possible. Back then, people were trying to transcend the limitations of chiptune. They were trying to make the hardware do what it couldn’t do musically.
A few years ago there was a revival of the chiptune style. Everybody started to simulate the limitations again. They made music as if it was for a chiptune platform. What Rafael is calling “post-chiptune” is going past this phase of simulating the limitations and trying to use the style for what it was aesthetically, but with no limits.
It’s the same for the visual style of the game, which is ASCII art without the limitations. It’s true to the style in a certain way, but we can go beyond ASCII with things like unicode characters or special effects where it makes sense to do so. Things that weren’t possible on DOS back in the day.
Influences and how to make use of them
As far as influences go, Stone Story’s music draws upon several different cultural contexts in order to cultivate a specific kind of mood. The Temple, for example, features Indonesian gamelan, which is a pretty new set of sounds to a lot of people. However, Rafael was able to use those sounds and have it not be foreign to whoever’s listening. The kind of rhythmic scheme used for the Temple is very tense, and the fact that it’s a foreign sound adds to the atmosphere of something bizarre going on.
There are many other influences playing into Stone Story’s soundtrack, but it mostly boils down to this idea of a shared culture: what all of us have played in the past and what we can use to talk between ourselves in a musical way. Sometimes you have an influence and you don’t even realize it. Self-analysis is tough! It takes a lot of thought to sort out where those inspirations can come from.
Synchronizing sound cues for the player experience
Some scenes in Stone Story were done like a movie: video was captured, then Rafael scored it like he would a film. Most of the music in the game, however, consists of loops and doesn’t synchronize with the action in any way.
What’s nice is that when you do get to those moments in-game where the music syncs up with the action on-screen, it’s pretty dramatic. You’re not expecting it to go that way. They create these beautiful moments, these revelations when someone is playing Stone Story for the first time.
In some of these scenes, there’s a certain amount of cinematography, a kind of visual poetry that works independent of the game. These scenes, in conjunction with an accompanying score, create powerful moments because you need to reward the player for spending their time. This is an important part of the game design as well: Stone Story is a game that sometimes makes you wait and have patience, which, in this day and age, is something that people may not be used to. When you do that you’re rewarded with beautiful visuals and an awesome soundtrack!
Creating sound effects to make the world come alive
The thing about Stone Story’s sound design is that early on in the process, it was decided that the characters were living in a naturalistic world with a veneer of fantasy added on. As a result, that necessitated a sort of realistic sound design in a way where the wind would sound like the wind, grass would like grass, and things hitting things would sound like things hitting things!
There are some synthesized sounds happening on top of the realistic stuff, quite a lot of reverb, and it’s used to simulate the game’s environments. Lots of soundscapes were done for the game’s locations; there’s music, but there’s also this underlying bed of sound that represents the natural world around the character.
For example, one of the scenes in-game involves a massive, rushing waterfall. In Rafael’s design process for what this waterfall’s audio design, he honed in on the unique sensation of seeing ASCII characters falling down and what that would sound like. You look at this very unreal scene and you obviously can’t fool yourself to make believe it’s a natural environment, but you listen to it as if it was.
The original direction for the game’s ASCII art was to represent what’s in peoples’ subconscious; how the mind deconstructs what it sees. It’s sort of a cartoon expression of the world. The role of audio is to add the realism that the visual doesn’t deliver. It’s a juxtaposition, which is important.
When a sword hits an enemy, the audio needs to convey what material the sword is made of. You can’t show that, there’s no texture on the sword; visually you can’t tell! But is it wood, is it metal: what are these things made of? When a chest bounces on the ground, you can hear what’s inside the chest.
As you play Stone Story, you’re accumulating resources and thinking about stockpiling things like wood, stone, and tar. It’s all stuff that you can’t really see in the game, since it’s represented by symbols. You’re always looking at the game and forcing yourself to think of reality within the game that is realistic and naturalistic: it’s a departure from what it looks like.
While this approach to sound design may not be necessary for the game, it does make some things easier and helps to keep the immersion. The main function of the audio in Stone Story is to add this layer of gravity, emotion, tension, and realism to the visuals in order to draw the player in even more.

When you start a game, you will start off at the Rocky Plateau. To get to crafting, you simply need to continue until you are able to choose your actions freely. So for now, select «Build a Shelter Door» which costs 5 stones.
You’ll be able to explore Deadwood Canyon now. Go through and once you reach the end, leave. You will now have an option to «Build Workstation.» This is technically the first step to crafting. You should already have enough materials (2 Stones & 7 Wood) build it.
Next, tools will appear as craftables in your workstation. This is not traditionally how things are crafted, so don’t get used to this menu. For now, build both the Shovel and the Hatchet. I had just enough stones to craft them.
Now that you have the Shovel, go back into your locations and select «Prospect Cliff» you’ll come up with a (Dirty) Sword. Go into your items and equip it. At this point, I would also change your secondary from Stone Throwing to the Hatchet.
Go back into your workstation and clean your blade. You don’t need to go back to equip the item, it should just be in your hand still. At this point, you’ll have an option to «Upgrade Workstation» with a somewhat steep resource requirement. Go to Deadwood Canyon. You should have enough wood going through once, especially because you chopped up the Ent (At least I think it’s an Ent. ) that was blocking your way. You should also have a treasure chest. Go into your items and open it up. You should have received a Metal Chunk. This is 1/3. Lets keep going.
This time, equip your Shovel. and head back to the Rocky Plateau. Don’t worry, there’s no enemies here. In fact, your health won’t even show up on the bottom left. You’ll eventually reach a mound of dirt and start digging. Eventually, you’ll retrieve another Metal Chunk. That’s 2/3.
Go into your workstation and finally upgrade it. You’ll be able to go into your locations again and «Dig Wall Fissure.» You’ll unlock Caves of Fear. If you forgot to change your equipment before you entered, that’s okay. You can pause the game on the bottom right and change your items there. I would recommend re-equipping your Sword and Hatchet again. It doesn’t say, but the attack speed is the same as the Sword, and each swing doing 1 damage, you’re essentially dual wielding for now. Once you get through to the end, you’ll find a Star Stone. This does two things; One, all previous areas now have a difficulty in stars. Obviously 1-star is easiest and 5-star is the hardest. Two, the Star Stone also acts as a resource vacuum, letting you pick up stuff on the floor without your character physically walking over there, bending over, and picking it up.
I would recommend going back to the Rocky Plateau to get some more items before you venture onto the next part, but it’s optional. It does make everything easier though.
Go back to Deadwood Canyon. Equipping your Star Stone and Hatchet will make you breeze through this while collecting everything. Once you encounter some enemies, switch to your Sword. At this point, I also had a Shield thanks to unlocking a chest back in the previous paragraph, so I made it through the stronger monster. You should receive a chest and your final Metal Chunk.
In your workstation, you should have an option to «Craft Smithy Hammer,» and after you do so, you should be able to «Craft Anvil.»
Congratulations, you’ve fully unlocked crafting.
Now before you get into serious crafting, I would recommend getting the Ouroboros Stone, which allows you to loop the section that you were at freely. This lets you get treasure chests without any effort after a certain point.
You can get the Ouroboros Stone after fighting the boss in the 3-star Mushroom Forest. One thing to note though is that there is a limit on how many treasure chests you can hold; 150 at any time. And opening them takes about 1 second each, so set aside 2.5-3 minutes when you come back and open your loot.
Also somewhat useful (but definitely not needed because this guide exists), is the Crafting Book. It shows you what recipes you’ve discovered. You can get this when you enter the Mushroom Shop and purchase two things using Ki.
This is the listed order in the book. I know it seems a little messed up, but please put up with it.

Обзор Stone Story RPG – ASCII-игра для ностальгирующих по ZX Spectrum
Разработчик-одиночка Габриэль Сантос больше 5 лет потратил на свой персональный проект мечты: стилизованную под ASCII-арт видеоигру Stone Story RPG обзор которой пишу в версии из «Раннего доступа» Steam. Сразу необходимо понимать, что разработка остаётся в сыроватом, но съедобном виде.
Сама стилизация вызывает аналогии с текстовыми квестами и «рогаликами» из 80-х, в дальнейшем перекочевавшими в Интернет. Игры вроде оригинального ADOM предоставляли неограниченную свободу действия, команды в ней вводились текстом. Например, «пойди направо, посмотри вниз, подними камень, разбей им стекло».
Естественно, основным языковым пакетом там всегда оставался английский, встретить аналог на русском языке – большая редкость и она перед вами. Причина в стилизации под ретро, сам геймдизайн в достаточной степени современен и независим. Упор делается на ваше воображение, а сюжет вторичен и служит фоном для происходящих событий.
«Во тьме приближается зло, лишь таинственный каменный артефакт способен изменить этот мир. Из потустороннего мира стали выползать бесчисленные чудовища, приведшие к гибели жизни, лишь храбрый путник способен положить конец этой проказе». Достаточно? Вполне.
Обзор Stone Story RPG – стоит ли играть?
Чтобы ответить на данный вопрос, нужно понимать концепт. Вы бродите по 8 огромным локациям, выбиваете множество достижений, минимально взаимодействуете с окружением, а в конце дерётесь с боссом. Окружение – чёрный фон, поверх которого намалёваны палочки, точки, кружочки и цифры. Стратегическая составляющая минимальная, но скучать некогда благодаря обилию предметов.
Основная задача состоит в подборе подходящей экипировки, после чего протагонист самостоятельно устремляется в странствие. Запрограммированный для него искусственный интеллект действует эффективно, почти не разочаровывая несуразными решениями. Задача – собрать 9 магических камней, дабы вернуть в мир свет.
По словам автора, в Early Access игра пробудет около 1 года, после чего выйдет в финальном издании. Выгода покупки сейчас кроется в скидке (20 %) и в личном участии в развитии проекта.
Как по мне, развлечение специфическое, ориентированное преимущественно на олдфагов и людей с развитым воображением. Сравнивать с классическими представителями жанра тяжело, поэтому от оценки воздержусь.

Stone Story RPG была в разработке довольно долгое время, около пяти лет, по словам разработчика Standardcombo. После множества обновлений на форуме разработчиков TIG Source начиная с 2014 года, игра наконец-то вышла в свет. Она появилась в Раннем Доступе Steam 8 августа и Standardcombo предполагает, что она будет находиться там около года и особо не измениться в цене к релизу.
Stone Story RPG полностью состоит из символов ASCII, в основном чёрных и белых с цветными вспышками. Несмотря на то, что игра представляет собой анимированные ASCII-изображения, Stone Story RPG – это сайд-скроллер в режиме реального времени. Вы проходите подземелья и покоряете горные вершины, сражаетесь с монстрами и создаете зелья, используя интерфейс с помощью мышки. Перелистывание страниц ваших ASCII-книг анимировано, искры в кузне, каждый взмах вашего клинка – всё это грациозно анимировано с помощью текстовых символов ASCII.

Edit: i got it after beat rocky*11 and valley*15 for first time.
I beat caves and forest in the v2.0.3 when had rocky on cian (allways with Steam online and internet conection).
Today (v2.0.6 and rocky in yellow) i tried forest again and still not working. I beat for the first time valley and work.
I assumed that rocky*11 acronian create the achievement trigger after speech bubbles.
And (offtopic) what alt-code is for fire element?
