В настоящее время дядя парня решает компенсировать упущенное, а именно разобраться, как устроены смартфоны, скоростной интернет, во многих других вещах.
Этого всего он был лишён, пока находился в коме двадцать лет. У него множество разных вопросов обо всех изменениях в окружающем мире. У племянника мужчины тоже есть вопросы, например, по магии, где будет проживать дядя, чем будет питаться. Возвратившийся начинает рассказывать юноше о другом мире. Но сам хочет перед этим узнать игровые новости. Юноша быстро понял, каким образом можно заработать на дядюшкином умении использовать магию. Самым простым вариантом является запись роликов для канала Ютуб. Дядюшка, помимо всего, мог перевоплощаться. Любоваться милой эльфийкой гораздо лучше, чем небритым мужчиной. Главный герой истории – Сибасаки. В 17 лет он попал под грузовик и стал овощем под аппаратом искусственного поддержания жизни. Пока герой пребывает в коме, его сознание оказывается в параллельном мире, где юноша обучается магии, становится великим воином, а также путешествует с целым гаремом прекрасных воительниц. Не жизнь, а сказка, но всему хорошему однажды приходится закончиться, и герой выходит из комы, оказавшись в скучной реальности настоящего мира. Чем он встретит Сибасаки, зрители узнают, посмотрев новый анимационный сериал, чья дата выхода состоялась 6 июля 2022 года.
Сибасаки сообщают, что он пробыл в коме целых 17 лет. Он уже взрослый мужчина, совершенно не приспособленный к современному миру, да и частично недееспособный. Причина в том, что после пробуждения парень стал разговаривать на неведомом языке, а когда его все же удалось понять, родные ужаснулись рассказам о девушках, магии и драконах.
Близкие посчитали, что за время комы Сибасаки сошел с ума и окончательно от него отвернулись, но лишь племянник героя, пожалев дядю, решил периодически навещать его в больнице. Во время очередного визита юноша в шоке видит, что Сибасаки левитирует, управляет огнем и демонстрирует иные магические способности, что заставляет его уверовать в рассказы родственника. Как изменится жизнь юноши, зрители смогут наблюдать в ходе просмотра нового шоу. Дата выхода аниме Перерождение дяди состоялась 6 июля 2022 года.
Между Сибасаки и его племянником возникает дружба. Герои решают заняться сотрудничеством. Мужчина обещает обучить парня магии и расскажет истории о параллельном мире, а взамен паренек должен помочь Сибасаки адаптироваться в реальности, ведь за 17 лет комы мир сильно изменился, обзаведясь интернетом, смартфонами и иными благами технического прогресса. Uncle From Another World
Uncle From Another World asks a simple question: what happens when, after truck-kun sends a young man to a fantasy world, he finally makes it back home 17 years later? The answer is some of the most painful comedy imaginable. (I mean that in a good way. I think?)
This tragicomedy is built around three core jokes. The first is the fact that, as the anime takes place in 2017, the titular uncle left Japan in the year 2000. (Since then, from our point of view, he has been in a coma.) Because of this, he views the world as the teenager he was when he left. He wants a cool new flip phone and is heavily invested in how Sega is doing in the current generation of console wars. It’s fish-out-of-water comedy pure and simple—and the otaku twist makes it even more enjoyable.
The second core joke is built around the fact that he still has access to all his magic powers. He can fly, create a sword of light, and use interdimensional storage. Yet, the way he and his nephew use his powers is to make YouTube vids, save on shipping fees, and watch memories from the other world on a magic TV screen for entertainment.
This brings us to the third core joke—that while tsundere did technically exist before he was whisked away to the fantasy world, the concept didn’t hit wide popularity in Japan until 2004. Because of this, the uncle had no way of knowing that the obviously tsundere elf girl that he kept running into in the other world wasn’t actually putting him down all the time. She was actually in love with him. Not knowing this, he constantly made romantic missteps—which he is eager to show his nephew as proof of her horribleness. I’m not going to lie here. These scenes hurt me right in my soul. It’s so sad for both of them yet you can’t help but laugh.
Simply put, this first episode is hilarious. The way it plays with otaku in-jokes and isekai tropes is fantastic. Honestly, the only thing I’m worried about is if I’ll be able to get through the whole season without cringing to death from seeing all those heartbreaking scenes of what he put that poor elf girl through in the fantasy world. Still, it won’t stop me from trying.
• All the homages to classic Sega Games in that opening are fantastic.
• I love that, instead of becoming a superhero, Uncle just makes YouTube vids for easy cash.
• Uncle may not know the term «tsundere» but. surely he saw Evangelion right? It aired in 1995 after all.
• I agree about smartphones being boring. I always wanted a flip phone—preferably one that looked like a Star Trek communicator.
• The best gag in the whole episode? The silent film of Uncle «rescuing» the girl and her brothers.
• All humor aside, this episode raises an interesting question: if you could, would you erase your bad/traumatic memories? I feel like I would keep them. To quote Captain Kirk «You know that pain and guilt can’t be taken away with a wave of a magic wand. They’re the things we carry with us, the things that make us who we are. If we lose them, we lose ourselves. I don’t want my pain taken away. I need my pain.»

Прошло немало лет, и наконец-то Сибасаки пришел в сознание. Вот только мужчина стал говорить на непонятном для окружавших его людей языке. Кроме этого он уверял, что овладел магической наукой. Родственники решили, что после комы Сибасаки был не в своем уме. Разве что, племянник не воспринимает дядю сумасшедшим. Такафуми навещает дядю и собственным глазами видит, как тот перемещает предметы. Парень проникается рассказами дяди о мире, в котором тот побывал. Сибасаки воодушевленно рассказывает племяннику все, с чем пришлось столкнуться, а тот знакомит дядю с новшествами их с ним мира.
Uncle From Another World
After all the setup and character introduction in the last two episodes, this episode was finally free to play around with it all. I have to say, going in, I expected that this episode would be nothing more than a collection of random jokes and humorous situations (not that that’s a bad thing or anything). What I did not expect was a solid theme tying all the silliness together. You see, this episode is actually a rather meaty exploration of empathy.
Uncle, seeking to help Fujimiya better understand her feelings for Takafumi, turns himself into a woman—Elf, specifically. And as he states, doing so for a prolonged period of time is dangerous, as his mind will literally change to fit its new container. Thus, as the episode goes on, he begins to feel more and more of the kind of things Elf must have been feeling all the time behind her tsundere exterior—though, as expected from someone as dense as Uncle, he isn’t able to truly make that logical connection.
On the other side of things, we have Fujimiya seeing just how vastly her memories of her childhood with Takafumi clash with his own. In her mind, she and Takafumi were inseparable pals. To Takafumi, however, she’s a tomboyish bully, constantly picking on him and making his school life a living hell. It’s so bad that she can’t even recognize herself in those memories. While it’s a shock, it does help her realize why he doesn’t seem romantically interested in her. To her, they have a deep, pre-established connection which makes her feel attracted to him. But for any relationship to occur she needs to overcome his already ingrained view of her as she was in their childhood. She needs to show him she is not the bully she once was.
Finally, the episode explores the idea of empathy on the internet. From the start, Uncle’s YouTube channel has been filled with haters who either mock him or call him a fake—and he treats this just as he would if someone came up to him on the street and said these things in person. He doesn’t yet understand that, when it comes to online comment sections, negative comments are often more common than positive ones. This is simply due to human nature—hate drives people to action faster than joy. And while Takafumi may know this—hence his cynicism towards commenters—what he doesn’t understand is that the vast majority of people don’t comment at all. They watch, enjoy, and move on without another thought. And while typing a comment may not cross their minds, clicking the subscribe button as a sign of support or agreement may not be too big of an ask. (There’s a reason why every YouTuber asks you to like, subscribe, and hit the bell every video: it works.)
So, in the end, Uncle sees the world through Elf’s eyes, Fujimiya learns that her memories of the past aren’t objective truth, and Takafumi is reminded that most people, even those online, are just normal people—and not the endless mass of trolls he fears them to be. Empathy, people! What a concept!
• Elf doesn’t need a lesson in empathy—she’s already a master. She knows that Uncle had no malice in destroying the barrier and so she protects him when the townspeople are about to attack him after he fixes it.
• Poor Elf and her epic last-stand-turned-faceplant, though.
• Look, I’m sure many bullies grow up to be good people—but when you were the bullied one, it’s hard to ever see them as anything different. Good luck Fujimiya, you’re going to need it.
• I’m happy to see that the “Fujimiya doesn’t know about Uncles magic powers” gag is now dead and gone. Two episodes of it was quite enjoyable but any more would have been beating a dead horse.
• Looking at the visuals for the anime, I was expecting Elf to appear in the real world as well, but it’s clear now that it’s just Uncle transformed. Which raises the question: How did he get back to our world and why didn’t Elf try to follow?

Uncle From Another World
The first episode did a lot of heavy lifting: it introduced us to the premise, two different worlds, three main characters, and the series’ core jokes. This episode spends its time bringing in the rest of the main cast, indulging in some solid tragicomedy humor along the way.
On the fantasy world side of things, we meet Mabel: an all-too-literal ice woman stereotype just waiting for the right man to come along and thaw her frozen heart. Unfortunately, she gets Uncle instead, and he can’t be bothered to do something like that instead of just killing the dragon himself. Yet, as things go with the humor of this series, he manages to luck into saying the right things to save her, only to completely mess things up in the end. Rather than convincing her to believe in herself and who she can become—i.e., a hero—he tells her it’s okay to stay the course of being a recluse and let the world burn. Then, just in case things weren’t bad enough, he rejects the sword she tries to give him—the sword that is a literal manifestation of her heart. Oof.
Then, in the real world, we get our introduction to Fujimiya, Takafumi’s childhood friend. Despite their many years apart, it’s clear from the start she has a huge crush on him, to the point that she is willing to drop by his apartment alone to spend some “quality time” with him. This, in turn, leads to the other big joke of this episode: without the context that Uncle has magic powers, it really does look like he is exploiting his financially struggling nephew. It’s a great comedic setup that I expect will continue to be mined for humor going forward.
All in all, while this is a strong episode, it doesn’t quite hit the heights of the premiere. (Though, to be fair, that was pretty much a perfect episode.) The one-shot jokes are great, but Mabel doesn’t seem quite as interesting as the Elf. And while Fujimiya’s misunderstanding of Uncle and Takafumi’s living situation is funny, it isn’t something that can really support her character in the long-term. Still, now that we have been introduced to all the main players, I’m excited to see where it goes from here.
• I mean, Uncle’s not wrong—Guardian Heroes is a fantastic game and the fact that it’s 197 in the reader poll makes me sad as well.
• I love that the first thing Fujimiya does in his apartment is to go to Takafumi’s bed and verify whether he is single or not.
• It’s actually scary how Uncle’s go-to solution to problems is “mindwipe.” Something tells me he has erased some vital parts of his life—not only in his own mind but in others as well.
• I wonder why Uncle is able to detect Fujimiya’s crush on Takafumi so easily. Maybe it’s just because he’s well-informed about the childhood friend cliché trope from all his gaming.
• On that note, I love the idea that Uncle isn’t “genre savvy” per se—he’s “wrong genre savvy.” He was trapped in a classic JRPG world but never played JRPGs. Thus, he treated his adventure like a straight-forward action game instead: find boss, kill boss.

My most immediate concern with Uncle From Another World is what we’re supposed to categorize this series as. It’s hardly pure isekai, since all the alternate-world action that forms its basis occurred in the past before the titular Uncle returned to our world. But it’s not really a ‘reverse’ isekai either, on account of the character being from the regular world in the first place. I suppose ‘post-isekai’ would be the best term for it: an irreverent analysis of how a real-world nerd would actually handle being stuck in a sword-and-sorcery realm for a huge chunk of their life, and how that would factor into their reintegration into society upon returning. As with so much else out there in the isekai-derived genre, it’s the kind of conceptually-interesting thought experiment you can understand an author working through, then putting on the page with the barest semblance of a story presenting that. Make no mistake, Uncle From Another World is derivative, and it pretty well knows it. The entirety of the plot is predicated on assumed audience familiarity with the isekai concept, with a lot of the humor therein stemming from subverting expected tropes with askance observations and reactions from audience-surrogate Takafumi to keep us abreast of what’s being parodized here. Much of it is based around addressing elements of the otaku landscape, like the concept of tsunderes, or understanding of basic RPG plot beats, while also making time to chill out on regular references to Sega fanboyism and modern YouTuber trends. Isekai in general has regularly relied on having an otaku viewpoint to appreciate its appeals, and Uncle From Another World ‘s doubled-back premise simply steeps that in another layer of insular indulgence. That means for about 90% of this manga’s first volume, there isn’t really much of a ‘plot’ to speak of, and we’re instead getting by on knowing genre gags. The ‘character actually returns from the isekai after several years’ setup apparently wasn’t enough of a subversion, so the series also throws in its own odd spins on the Uncle’s actual adventures in the other world. It’s mostly in service of mocking how things would ‘actually’ turn out, like how a schlubby everyman in a land of attractive anime characters would be seen as ‘hideous’ and mistaken for a monster. Similarly, we find out how the Uncle did obtain fantastical magical powers in his time there, but utilizing them only ended up with him nearly getting executed as a heretic. It’s stuff like that which cements Uncle From Another World as a parody of isekai apart from simply being another spin on the concept. Meanwhile, that same deadpan observational humor manifests in the everyday interactions between Takafumi and his Uncle as they live out their new days together. A lot of the framework is rooted in Takafumi prompting his Uncle to tell him stories of his fantasy-life times, but instead of these being parables to impart some kind of applicable wisdom to Takafumi like you might expect from setups like this, they just end up being shaggy-dog stories that make it clear how inept Uncle was within his situation. That itself ties into the inherent ‘man out of time’ aspect of Uncle From Another World ‘s setup, with Uncle having missed out on seventeen years of cultural evolution. That does lead to some pretty great gags on either side of the story, as we and Takafumi recognize the tsundere disposition of the elf girl’s infatuation which Uncle failed to pick up on, or quick bits like him being shocked that Kochikame finally ended while he was out of this world. When the dry irreverence of Uncle From Another World is speaking for itself, it mostly works, even as it’s perhaps too reliant on audiences who recognize things like specific plot points from Alien Soldier. The thing is, a few good high-concept observations aren’t necessarily enough to sustain a whole volume of this idea. You can only watch Uncle geek out over vintage Sega games or talk about how much being in an isekai actually sucked so many times before the project stops feeling like a clever dissection and starts becoming self-indulgent. There is an attempt in the last chapter of this volume to tackle subjects with more momentum, in the form of Takafumi reconnecting with a former classmate and Uncle’s intersections into the relationship. But even then, most of the jokes therein are repeats from several previous chapters, and it passes with little to say save for the possibility that Uncle may be more earnestly worldly than his honestly uncomfortable behavior at the chapter’s intro lets on. It leaves the possibility of following up with further development, but that’s all it is: vestiges of potential in a volume that otherwise coasts by on a few sensible chuckles. All that’s not even getting into the way this first volume of Uncle From Another World looks. The art is, to put it charitably, unpolished. The character models for the two main characters are pointedly rough and minimally expressive, and I can almost buy that as intentional to sell the ‘real-world’ aspect of their setting. But so much of the backgrounds, the environments they occupy, look downright amateurish in their rendering, to the point that you question if more minimal backdrops would have been better for Hotondoshindeiru ‘s skillset. Notably, several of the parts of the story we see in the fantasy world look a bit better, with the various cute girl characters rendered with noticeably more polish, possibly intended to sell that aforementioned story point about how impossibly attractive everyone in that world was. It works in communicating that to a degree, but arguably makes it even more noticeable when the art straight up comes off like it had much less effort put into it in the other places. It gets to the point where you’re scanning through the story almost entirely focused on the dialogue text, the awkward art barely a medium for following the decent observational humor along. Also – and this is a relatively minor thing – but at least on the digital copy from Yen Press I used for this review, the translation notes in the back are printed on a screen-toned background that renders them nearly unreadable, which is frustrating. While the last episode was all about empathy, this one is all about how people’s deeply-held impressions of others are often mistaken. We were led to assume last week that Takafumi sees Fujimiya as a bully and not in the least bit girly. However, this week we learn this was just his first impression of her. As a sensitive kid with nerdy habits, Takafumi was a prime target for bullying—not just from Fujimiya. Yet, we know that in Fujimiya’s mind, she was never a bully. She truly believed, even at the time, that she and Takafumi were the best of friends.
