Amazing!

Application is amazing! I have had it for a long time now and I tend to play this game every time I miss the wizard’s world. The questions are incredibly well diversified and incredibly accurate, and there is so much of them that I have rarely seen a question repeated.
I have found some bugs in the presentations and dismissals. Sometimes the controller showing the questions won’t dismiss completely which is understandable due to the beautiful custom presentation miss understanding it’s own state. I would go another way being an iOS developer myself but it’s a job well done and the game well worth being closed and opened when that happens.
I would also suggest showing progress bars or the state with which you award the collectibles even though the surprise makes it enjoyable nonetheless. I would love to be of help if you need it and being a part of your incredible journey. I would suggest installing the application and later buying the full version as it is well worth your time and money if you are a potter head like myself.

Awesome Game!

Really fun game! I am a big potter head and this game is really well done! The questions are hard, but accurate. I have not found any mistakes. I have completed my magical collection now! My one suggestion is maybe make it so you can see how much progress you have made towards the different collectibles like it would say “you have won 10/20 games without using help” so you would know how much more you had to do! Also people are saying answers are wrong, but they are just either misreading questions or they don’t read articles on pottermore by J. K. Rowling so they don’t know answers. Like Neville marries Hannah, but in one review they said that was an incorrect question, but the app is right and they are wrong! Also anyone who reads pottermore knows that Hermione is minister of magic because in the writing by J. K. Rowling on the Quidditch World Cup she calls her Minister Hermione!

I love this game sooooo much!! I’m going to universal studios soon so I needed to memorize stuff about Harry Potter. And I tried a whole. Bunch of different trivia apps but this one was the best. 😀 whoever made this game really should be proud of themselves!! I love how you can switch houses and there are different levels of years! I mean if it was just the same questions over and over again the game would get boring but no they do different questions for each year and each year has harder questions! I love this game soooo much and I really recommend it for all you Harry Potter lovers. But I do have one question how do you change your name??

Now, we’re assuming you’re more than familiar with the four houses of Hogwarts, but here’s a quick refresher, just in case.

Hogwarts was founded over a thousand years ago by four powerful wizards: Godric Gryffindor, Salazar Slytherin, Rowena Ravenclaw and Helga Hufflepuff. They chose to split the students into four ‘houses’, each bearing their surnames and featuring young wizards and witches who displayed abilities and personalities they wanted to nurture.

To do this, Godric Gryffindor used his magical hat – henceforward known as the Sorting Hat – to decide which children should go into which house, and so it has been ever since with a yearly Sorting Ceremony that places each new pupil into their own new home.

The four houses have different entry requirements, and nobody summed them up better than the old Sorting Hat itself in its welcoming song.

Gryffindor

Notable members include (of course) Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley.

После тестов Wizzarding World предлагает пройти несколько квизов и узнать, насколько хорошо вы разбираетесь в магии, персонажах и истории вселенной «Гарри Поттера».

На вечер пришли Дэниел Рэдклифф (Гарри Поттер), Руперт Гринт (Рон Уизли), Бонни Райт (Джинни Уизли), Том Фелтон (Драко Малфой), Оливер Фелпс (Джордж Уизли), Джеймс Фелпс (Фред Уизли), Мэттью Льюис (Невилл Долгопупс), Уорик Дэвис (Профессор Флитвик, Гоблин Крюкохват), Майкл Гэмбон (Профессор Дамблдор), продюсер Дэвид Хэйман, режиссёр Крис Коламбус, Джон Уильямс и Джоан Роулинг. Перед самой церемонией они общались с прессой и фанатами на красной дорожке.
В начале вечера на сцене выступил Уорик Дэвис с жабьим хором, исполнив две знаменитые композиции из саундтрека, одна из которых «Double Trouble». Вслед за ним на сцене появился композитор первых трех фильмов о Гарри Поттере — Джон Уильямс и филармонический оркестр весь вечер играл его музыку.

Далее официальные представители произнесли речь и пригласили актёров для торжественного открытия церемонии. На сцену актёры прибыли на волшебном автобусе «Ночной рыцарь». Все, кроме Дэниела Рэдклиффа и Руперта Гринта, которые «прилетели» на голубом летающем Форде Англия. Джоан Роулинг не участвовала в открытии. Главным человеком на сцене конечно был Дэниел Рэдклифф, он официально открывает парк. Все участники мероприятия, включая публику достают волшебные палочки и с криком «Люмос Максима» из ночного мрака появляется замок Хогвартс. Он освещается огнями, а его стены словно экран проектируют фрагменты из фильмов и другие спец.эффекты. Все это сопровождается оркестровой музыкой и красивым фейерверком. После церемонии гости направляются на самый главный аттракцион «Гарри Поттер и запретное путешествие».

Аттракцион «Состязания с драконом» основан на Турнире Трёх Волшебников, который был показан в фильме Гарри Поттер и Кубок огня. Два дракона, состязающихся между собой, будут называться также как и в фильме — Венгерская Хвосторога и Китайский Огненный Шар. Полёт на Гиппогриффе

Гарри Поттер и Запретное путешествие

«Гарри Поттер и запретное путешествие» — горка, по которой можно проехать по всему парку «Волшебный Мир Гарри Поттера». Поездка сопровождается известными сценами из Поттерианы и площадками в духе Гарри Поттера. Аттракцион основан исключительно на современных и новаторских технологиях. «Хижина Хагрида» — один из подающих надежды проектов Islands of Adventure. Аттракцион полностью включает в себя горку «Полет на Гиппогриффе», которая «летает» поблизости от домика лесничего. Гости не смогут войти внутрь хижины, так как это строение задумывалось лишь как памятник, в точности воспроизводящий дом Рубеуса Хагрида.

Палочка выбирает волшебника

Аттракцион размещается в точной копии лавки мистера Олливандера из фильмов Гарри Поттера. Как сам Гарри Поттер получил в этой лавке свою первую палочку, так и Вы сможете приобрести здесь свою. Магазины

Самый знаменитый волшебный магазин кондитерских изделий «Сладкое Королевство». Здесь продаются все мыслимые и немыслимые сладости из мира волшебников. Взрывающиеся леденцы, заварные котелки, лакричные палочки, жвачки Друбблс, сахарные перья, шоколадные лягушки, разноцветные драже Берти Боттс, сливочные помадки, кровавые леденцы и т. д. Магазин находится в деревне Хогсмид.

«Дэрвиш и Бэнгз» — магазин волшебных вещиц и снаряжения, таких как набор «Всё для Квиддича», форма для Турнира Трёх Волшебников, Спектральные очки, напоминалки, легендарная «Чудовищная книга о чудовищах». Здесь же продаётся реквизит, использованный в фильмах. Магазин находится в деревне Хогсмид.

«Зонко» — магазин для шутников и людей с хорошим чувством юмора. Здесь можно найти удлинители ушей, вопящую игрушку Йо-йо, боксирующий телескоп и летающие шутихи от мастеров Уизли. Есть и «вкусный юмор»: тыквенные пастилки, блевательные батончики и кровопролитные конфетки и т. п. Магазин также находится в деревне Хогсмид.

Точная копия лавки мистера Олливандера из фильмов Гарри Поттера во всех смыслах этого слова. Как сам Гарри Поттер получил свою первую палочку в этой лавке, так и Вы сможете приобрести здесь свою. Выбрать палочку поможет интерактивное испытание «Палочка выбирает волшебника». Здесь же будут продаваться все палочки, которые когда либо описывала Джоан Роулинг.

Рестораны

Гостиница/паб Три Метлы и бар Кабанья голова — место где можно погреться у огня, попивая пинту сливочного пива или фирменный тыквенный сок. Вы можете заказать деликатесы, национальные британские блюда, пасту, Корнуэльские пирожки, запеченную индейку, свежие овощи и фрукты. Для детей особое меню. На десерт — яблочный, клубничный пироги, арахисовое масло, шоколадные трюфели и многое другое.

Серьезно? В этом тесте 31 вопрос, алло. Мне казалось, иди даже в официальном тесте на Wizarding world меньше? Интересных и небанальных вопросов вообще раз, два и обчелся. Ну, нет, мне понравился вопрос про двери, про игнор, про гостей и про упорядоченность. То есть, это крутые вопросы, над которыми можно задуматься. Над тестом явно работали и заморачивались, но половину вопросов все равно можно выкинуть, и так будет только лучше. Ну и да, я с Рейвенкло, это все еще результат с Wizarding world, а в ответе мне выпадает… Слизерин. Автор старался, автору респект и пожелание перестать пихать в тест все, что он видит в других тестах. +1. Да, я верю, что вы можете делать более оригинальные тесты.

Pottermore is extremely proud to reveal the new Patronus experience. From today, registered users can discover their own unique Patronus for the first time. Yes, really! And it’s right here.

The Patronus Charm, introduced in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, is a defensive spell which produces a silver, animal guardian, used to protect a witch or wizard against Dementors. You can find out more about what a Patronus can do here.

Each Patronus takes the form of a different animal that has a special affinity with the caster – in Harry’s case, his Patronus is a stag. Hermione’s Patronus is an Otter, while Ron’s is a Jack Russell Terrier.

Now it’s time to discover yours. Summon up your happiest memory, and the Patronus experience will take you through a beautiful forest where you’ll be asked to make a series of choices, based on a set of cryptic prompts written by J.K. Rowling. Your answers will be timed and you can only discover your Patronus once.

There are many forms that your Patronus could take; it could be a familiar animal or, in rarer cases, a magical creature. Answer the mysterious questions, and navigate your way through the forest to cast your new Patronus friend.

К сожалению, большинство мест, где происходит действие книг о Гарри Поттере, спрятано от магглов (или, толерантно выражаясь, лиц, альтернативно магически одарённых). Попасть в банк Гринготтс, школу Дурмстранг или любой из магических баров у такого человека вряд ли получится. Но вот посмотреть на некоторые здания снаружи, а также увидеть, где именно создавались их киновоплощения, — легко.

Замок Хогвартс находится где-то в Шотландии, но маги обитают по всей Великобритании. В том числе и в Лондоне, где герои оказываются довольно часто.

Лондон. Кингс-Кросс

В первую очередь внимания заслуживает вокзал Кингс-Кросс, откуда отправляется поезд в Хогвартс и где находится точно известный проход в мир волшебников. Кстати, выбрано место было не случайно. Родители Джоан Роулинг познакомились как раз на вокзале Кингс-Кросс, в поезде, отправляющемся в Шотландию.

Когда была построена железнодорожная станция в посёлке Хогсмид неподалёку от Хогвартса, встал вопрос о строительстве магического вокзала в Лондоне. Но постройка отдельного вокзала в центре магловской столицы слишком явно нарушала бы Статут Секретности, и поэтому было принято решение соорудить на недавно выстроенном вокзале Кингс-Кросс несколько скрытых платформ, куда могли бы попасть только ведьмы и колдуны (в книгах упоминается только одна платформа, но, по словам Джоан Роулинг, их больше).

Платформа 9 3/4. Специально для селфи и прочих луков

Вход на самую известную из них находится между платформами 9 и 10, а сама платформа носит дробный номер 9 3/4. Именно оттуда отправляется Хогвартс-экспресс. Чтобы попасть на магическую платформу, надо, не сбавляя шага, пройти через барьер между платформами 9 и 10.

У нас с вами это вряд ли получится, зато мы можем посетить само это место. Специально для туристов его оборудовали на вокзале Кингс-Кросс. Правда, находится это место между платформами 4 и 5, ну да какая разница! Зато тут работает профессиональный фотограф, можно сфотографироваться в цветах всех четырёх факультетов Хогвартса (есть и мантии, и шарфы), а рядом открыт сувенирный магазин, где можно купить волшебные палочки (нерабочие), Карту Мародёров (тоже не рабочую) и прочие магнитики с кружками.

Лондон. Косой переулок

Центр магической жизни в Лондоне — Косой переулок, улочка, где расположено множество волшебных магазинов и контор. Магглу туда, конечно, не попасть, но зато есть шанс посмотреть, где снимались соответствующие сцены.

Войти в Косой переулок можно через паб «Дырявый котёл», расположенный «между книжной лавкой и магазином звукозаписей на Чаринг-Кросс-Роуд» (примерно в районе дома 48, если судить по фильмам). Если в мире магглов на звание старейшего паба в Лондоне претендует штук семь заведений, то волшебники знают точно: это именно «Дырявый котёл», который стоял здесь задолго до появления улицы Чаринг-Кросс-Роуд. К сожалению, даже если обойти все книжные магазины на этой улице, «Дырявого котла» рядом с ними не окажется. Зато фанаты, добравшиеся до Леденгольского рынка, одного из старейших крытых рынков Лондона, увидят много знакомого.

Есть в Лондоне и другие места, связанные с историями о Гарри Поттере. Можно, например, поискать дом номер 12 по площади Гриммо (и не найти), попытаться локализовать здание Министерства Магии (над маскировкой которого работают не худшие маги современности) или полюбоваться на рептилий в лондонском зоопарке, где Гарри впервые открыл в себе способности змееуста. Но вместо этого мы предложим вам отправиться туда, где вас ждут.

Ливсден. Музей Гарри Поттера на студии Warner Bros.

Это, конечно же, музей Гарри Поттера, расположенный в Ливсдене, пригороде Лондона, на студии кинокомпании Warner Bros., где снимались все восемь фильмов о мальчике-который-выжил. После окончания съёмок два огромных павильона и открытую площадку превратили в музей. Здесь можно полюбоваться чертежами и макетами, декорациями и костюмами, а также различными предметами, изготовленными для съёмок.

К услугам зрителей 16-метровый макет замка Хогвартс и множество декораций, включая Большой зал с накрытыми столами факультетов (за ними можно посидеть), кабинет зельеварения, кухню миссис Уизли, где домашняя утварь работает сама собой, хижину Хагрида, кабинет Дамблдора… Вы сможете внимательно изучить разные модели мётел, посмотреть на движущиеся портреты, взглянуть на «Чудовищную книгу о чудовищах» (издали — а вдруг укусит), приобрести палочку или учебник магии…

Гигантские шахматы из «Философского камня».

В музее работает множество интерактивных экспонатов, проводятся экскурсии и, конечно, продаются сувениры. Особенно стоит отметить воссозданный здесь магазин «Сладкое королевство» с не совсем волшебными сладостями и бар, где можно попробовать сливочное пиво, которое постоянно пьют все герои поттерианы (на студии оно безалкогольное, в книгах — непонятно).

Добраться до студии можно на электричке с вокзала Юстон (ехать нужно до станции Watford Junction). Поездка обойдётся в 2 фунта и продлится всего 20 минут. Книга на салфетках

Как известно любому уважающему себя фанату, Джоан Роулинг записывала первую книгу о Гарри Поттере на салфетках, просиживая вечерами в кафе. Также достоверно известно, какое именно это кафе: The Elephant House в центре Эдинбурга, совсем простенькая кофейня. Сейчас там вечно толпа, но выпить чаю или кофе вполне можно. Адрес кафе: 32 Marshall Street, Edinburgh.

Вест-Хайленд-Лайн. Хогвартс-экспресс

Большая часть учеников Хогвартса приезжает в школу на поезде, курсирующем по маршруту Лондон-Хогсмид, на так называемом «Хогвартс-экпрессе». Для съёмок сцен с поездом использовалась железнодорожная ветка Вест-Хайленд-Лайн, реальный маршрут, по которому ходит самый настоящий работающий на угле паровоз. Он называется Jacobite Steam Train и ходит по северу Шотландии (как известно, именно там находится Хогвартс) с начала XX века.

Поезд состоит из отреставрированных вагонов 1956 года, а в одном из вагонов полностью повторена обстановка «Хогвартс-экспресса» из фильма, даже тележка со сладостями ездит. Правда, попасть в этот вагон можно, только если все остальные билеты уже проданы — волшебники по-прежнему предпочитают путешествовать без магглов. Взрослый билет туда-обратно обойдётся в 58 фунтов, а в один конец — в 51 фунт.

Замки и соборы. Школа магии и волшебства Хогвартс

Большая часть действия саги происходит непосредственно в замке Хогвартс. Идеальной натуры ни в Шотландии, ни в Англии не нашлось, поэтому на экране Хогвартс изображают сразу несколько замков, соборов и университетов.
Начнем мы с замка Энвик, считающегося вторым по величине жилым замком в Великобритании. Находится он на севере Англии, почти на границе с Шотландией, и принадлежит герцогам Нортумберлендским.

Поскольку содержание замка баснословно дорого, он открыт для публики и часто сдаётся киностудиям (впрочем, так обстоит дело с большинством замков и поместий Великобритании). Кинобиография у него богатая: замок снимался в «Робине Гуде», «Елизавете», «Аббатстве Даунтон» — и, конечно, в «Гарри Поттере».

Именно под этими стенами маленький Гарри учился летать на метле — да и сейчас для всех желающих здесь проводятся бесплатные уроки полётов. Все желающие могут попробовать полетать. У некоторых получается.

Коридоры и галереи Хогвартсу предоставил старинный нормандский собор в городе Глостер, в двух часах езды от Лондона. Здесь снималось большинство сцен из первого и второго фильмов. Говорят, в подземелье собора до сих пор живут духи монахов. А теперь, возможно, и кто-то из привидений Хогвартса.

Кабинет профессора Макгонагалл разместился в доме настоятеля Даремского собора Христа, Девы Марии и святого Катберта. Двор того же собора превратился в двор Хогвартса, где Гарри отпускает полетать свою сову.

Оба эти собора (как и Даремский замок, расположенный рядом с одноимённой церковью) выстроены в XI-XII веках и безумно красивы даже без всякого Гарри Поттера. Но с ним, наверное, интереснее.

Хогвартский двор (Дарем).

Ну а больше всего локаций, в которых проходили съёмки, можно найти в Оксфорде, знаменитейшем университетском городе Англии. Это довольно логично, потому что Хогвартс во многом «списан» с Оксфорда.

Библиотека Оксфордского университета (она носит имя сэра Томаса Бодли, известного коллекционера старинных рукописей) спорит с Ватиканской за звание старейшей библиотеки в Европе. Она занимает пять огромных корпусов, и её помещения неоднократно появлялись в фильмах. Собственно, сама библиотека — средневековое собрание книг Хамфри Ланкастерского, герцога Глостера — и превратилась в библиотеку Хогвартса. В средние века все книги в ней были прикованы цепями к полкам, как в Запретной секции хогвартской библиотеки, да и до сих пор книги из этого собрания не выдаются читателям на дом.

Зал же богословского отделения библиотеки превратился в больничное крыло магической школы. Зал этот считается одним из шедевров английской готики — и одним из первых экзаменационных залов в истории. Сейчас его можно арендовать для проведения свадьбы или другого мероприятия.

Ну и, наконец, здание колледжа Крайст-Чёрч, самого старого и самого престижного в Оксфорде, тоже подарило Хогвартсу многое. В первую очередь, конечно, Большой зал. Этот зал, где происходило большинство главных событий в жизни юных волшебников, снимался в обеденном холле Крайст-Чёрч. Многие сцены снимались и во дворе этого колледжа, и во внутренних помещениях.

Бэкингемшир. Запретный лес

Напоследок мы расскажем ещё о двух местах, которые не только появлялись на экране в саге о Гарри Поттере, но и совершенно очаровательны сами по себе.

Во-первых, это так называемый «Чёрный парк» в графстве Бэкингемшир, всего в тридцати с небольшим километрах от Лондона. Это природный заповедник, считающийся Участком особого научного значения, но нам он интересен не этим, а тем, что парк этот появлялся на экране едва ли не чаще любого другого в Великобритании. Его можно увидеть в фильмах «Проклятье Франкенштейна», «Дракула: князь тьмы», где парк изображает Трансильванию, в нескольких фильмах о Джеймсе Бонде, в «Бэтмене» и «Капитане Америка» и даже в «Сорока семи ронинах».

А в фильмах о Гарри Потере этот парк стал Запретным лесом — потому что даже в самую ясную погоду в некоторых его районах царит полумрак.

Уилтшир. Годрикова лощина

Ещё одно место, которое мы предлагаем вашему вниманию, — деревня Лэкок в графстве Уилтшир, неподалёку от Бата. Деревня эта упоминается ещё в материалах первой в Европе переписи населения. В начале XIII века здесь было основано аббатство Девы Марии и святого Бернарда, которое сохранилось до сих пор абсолютно нетронутым. А все ныне стоящие дома самой деревни выстроены не позднее середины XVIII века, а некоторые значительно раньше. Вся деревня принадлежит Национальному фонду Великобритании и считается одним из самых живописных мест в Англии. На экране она превратилась в Годрикову Лощину, где жили родители Гарри, а в стенах аббатства снимали кое-какие интерьеры замка Хогвартс.

Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Все настоящие поттеровские места находятся в Британии. Но что делать десяткам тысяч фанатов из США? О них тоже позаботились.

В штате Флорида больше огромных тематических парков, чем где бы то ни было. Там находятся самый большой в мире «Диснейленд», огромнейший аквапарк, парки студии Universal… Город Орландо — один из самых преуспевающих туристических центров мира. Открыли здесь и парк, целиком посвящённый Гарри Поттеру.

Он занимает территорию в восемь гектаров. Здесь расположена деревня Хогсмид (единственная в Британии деревня, где живут только волшебники) — на станции стоит Хогвартс-экспресс, с почтовой станции можно отправить письмо со штемпелем Хогсмида, здесь работают самая известная в волшебном мире кондитерская «Сладкое королевство» и магазин магических приколов «Зонко» (там можно купить, например, выдвижные уши или боксирующий телескоп), легендарные пабы «Три метлы» и «Кабанья голова», а также лавка волшебных палочек, где не покупатель выбирает палочку, а палочка — его.

В парке воссоздана и школа Хогвартс с кабинетами, спальнями, живыми портретами… Здесь же работает множество аттракционов вроде полёта на гиппогрифах (вариация на тему американских горок) и Дороги ужаса с дементорами и Дракучей ивой. Большую часть замка занимает аттракцион «Гарри Поттер и запретное путешествие», но залы и кабинеты, доступные для осмотра, до мелочей воспроизводят показанные в фильме интерьеры.

Many readers have expressed how much they “wish they could visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park!” It’s either too far, too expensive, or just not possible for one reason or another.

Fortunately, we’ve visited the Wizarding World of Harry Potter enough times and taken video of almost everything at the Harry Potter park. Now, we’re creating this page, with all our videos from the park to create a virtual Harry Potter park vacation, just for you!

While it will never take the place of the real thing, hopefully, our videos and descriptions of the park will tide you over until you can make it or maintain the memories of a recent visit until you come, again.

Harry Potter Park Grand Opening

The grand opening celebrations for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter park went on for literally weeks! Soft openings, VIP events, and the official grand opening day consumed the park for the better part of a month. We were very fortunate to have attended many of the soft opening days, one of the VIP grand opening celebrations and the actual opening day. Here’s a couple videos of these very special Harry Potter park opening events.

Hogsmeade Village

Now that the Harry Potter park is open, we must take a general tour of the area. Universal and JK Rowling created Hogsmeade Village and Hogwarts Castle in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Although technically on Diagon Alley, some places still made it to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, including Ollivanders Wand Shop and Gringotts Bank. These are just general tours. The detail comes below. 🙂

Three Broomsticks and Honeydukes

Three Broomsticks is one of the better themed building interiors in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter Hogsmeade. They have lots of the standard fare including rotisserie chicken, fish and chips, and turkey legs, but also include some unique dishes like shepherd’s pie, cornish pasties, and ham soup. Of course, this is where you can get your Butterbeer and pumpkin juice, too!

Honeydukes is one of the famous attractions in Hogsmeade. It is a sweet shop famous for its chocolate and many wonderfully wild sweets. In the Harry Potter books, it also houses the entrance to a secret passageway to Hogwarts. Other than the technicolor paint job in this building, you’ll find Chocolate Frogs, Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans, and Clippy’s Clip Joint Clippings, as well as many other Harry Potter favorites.

Moaning Myrtle

Don’t be surprised on your visit to the “public conveniences” in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park if you hear voices!

I was caught completely off-guard my first time in the restrooms in the Wizarding World when a girl’s voice started speaking to me from the ether. Come to find out, it was none other than Moaning Myrtle from the Harry Potter books and movies! She’s graced the Wizarding World of Harry Potter Hogsmeade with her presence, but only in the main bathrooms — both the boys and the girls.

We shot a short video to give you some idea of what it’s like. Please note: we only filmed the floor, so no dirty stuff (get your minds out of the gutter!) and because they’re fully tiled bathrooms, the sound is a bit rough. We did the best we could to single out Myrtle’s voice, but it’s still a bit difficult to hear her clearly.

Dervish & Banges and Owl Post

Dervish & Banges is of course where Hogwarts students pick up their school supplies and other sundry things. Wands, Rememberalls, Sneakoscopes, your class robes, broomsticks, t-shirts, ball caps, and more can be found in Dervish & Banges or the Owl Post.

Although officially two separate shops, at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter the shops can be found in essentially the same location and you can meander through both while indoors. Recently enlarged, you’ll find that these shops are often very crowded and most of the items can be purchased in other areas of the Wizarding World and even in other parts of the Islands of Adventure theme park.

Ollivanders Wand Shop

Easily one of my favorite parts of the park and usually the longest line, also. Many guests have complained that the show is too short for such a long wait. You can watch the video and decide for yourself. For me, it’s so much more than just the show. It’s the theming of the building, the special effects, the “feel” of the whole show! The video shows the entire show, however, be aware that I had to add some music over the top and it conceals the show audio a bit. This was necessary due to Universal copyright rules.

Flight of the Hippogriff

Want to have the most spectacular view of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park? Ride the Flight of the Hippogriff! Right at the top of the first climb, you get an amazing view of the whole park! You’ll see it briefly in the video.

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey Ride

Easily the most popular attraction at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Harry Potter ride sends guests on a virtual broomstick ride with Harry, Hermione, and Ron throughout the grounds of Hogwarts and even onto the Quidditch field. You’ll see dragons, Hagrid, death eaters, and some of those nasty Slytherin characters, too.

The lighting on the ride is quite dim, so taking a decent video is nearly impossible. However, I have taken video of the queue line, as it winds it’s way through Hogwarts. For me, the line is almost as much fun as the ride with Dumbledore’s office, the sorting hat, and much more.

If you want a slight hint at what the Harry Potter ride is like, the original Super Bowl commercial gave away more of the ride’s content than I knew, at the time. Check it out for a glimpse at the ride.

Gryffindor

Gryffindor house is where you would find the pluckiest and most daring students (there’s a reason the house symbol is the brave lion). The house colours are scarlet and gold, the common room lies up in Gryffindor Tower and the Head of House is Professor Minerva McGonagall.

If the Sorting Hat placed you here, you would have demonstrated qualities like courage, bravery and determination. Some of the wizarding world’s best and brightest belonged to this house – Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore are just a couple that spring to mind!

If you are lucky enough to end up in Gryffindor, we imagine you’re the type of person who likes to stand up for the little guy, challenges authority, has a tendency to act first and think later, is known as a class clown and takes board games very seriously.

Slytherin

Slytherin house has an unfortunate reputation. While it is true that a lot of dark witches and wizards were sorted into Slytherin, not all who belong to this house are bad. In fact, there are a lot of excellent qualities the Sorting Hat looks for in potential Slytherins and Merlin himself even belonged to this misunderstood house!

The house colours for Slytherin are silver and emerald green and the emblem is a serpent. The Head of House is Professor Severus Snape, and the common room can be found down in the dungeons under the lake (which only adds to the Slytherin air of mystery).

If the Sorting Hat placed you in this noble house, then you are most likely ambitious, shrewd and possibly destined for greatness. We can imagine you’re the kind of person who is always one step ahead, has a dark sense of humour, thinks reputation is important, takes pride in their appearance and doesn’t let anyone see their soft side.

Ravenclaw

If you are looking for the brainiest students – you would find them in Ravenclaw (with a couple of notable exceptions like Hermione Granger). The Ravenclaw colours are blue and bronze, the emblem is an eagle, the Head of House is Professor Filius Flitwick and the common room sits at the top of Ravenclaw Tower behind an enchanted knocker.

The Sorting Hat would only put you in this house if you demonstrated excellent wisdom, wit and a skill for learning. Ravenclaws are often known for being quite eccentric and most of the great wizarding inventors and innovators have come from this house.

We can imagine that you would get to sit up in Ravenclaw Tower, while surveying the excellent views, if you’re the type of person who analyses everything, is an overachiever, can be described as away with the fairies, is not afraid to be an individual and has a head stuffed full of interesting facts.

Hufflepuff

Hufflepuff is where you will find the most trustworthy and hardworking students. In fact, out of all the houses Hufflepuff has produced the least number of dark witches and wizards. The badger is the symbol of this house, the colours are yellow and black, the Head of House is Professor Pomona Sprout and the common room can be found near the kitchens in Hogwarts.

There is an idea that Hufflepuffs are the least clever of all Hogwarts students – but that is not true. Hufflepuffs are just the most humble of all the houses and don’t feel the need to shout about their achievements in the same way as the others.

If you were lucky enough to be sorted into this house, we can imagine you’re the type of person who has a strong moral compass, always works hard, is the most loyal friend, knows it is the taking part that counts and always has the best snacks.

These wizarding world accessories aren’t just ordinary wooden sticks – they’re much, much more. They channel and focus magic, enabling the spell-caster to perform all sorts of fantastical feats – from the familiar ‘swish and flick’ of Wingardium Leviosa to a sneaky Confundus Charm to stop a certain chap named Cormac McLaggen stealing Ron Weasley’s position in Quidditch.

Magic can be performed without a wand, but it’s difficult. Basically, having a wand helps – and they also end up being a really personal item to the carrier. Remember Harry’s devastation when his broke in Deathly Hallows? It’s not just about the magic they carry, but the connection a witch or wizard has to it.

15. Гриффиндор — факультет Джоан Роулинг

В 2012 году создательница вселенной Гарри Поттера Джоан Роулинг рассказала, что прошла знаменитый тест на платформе Pottermore и попала в… Гриффиндор! К ней присоединились актеры Эванна Линч (Полумна Лавгуд), Бонни Райт (Джинни Уизли), Кэти Льюнг (Чжоу Чанг) и даже Тони Фелтон (Драко Малфой).

14. Французские корни

Аналогично Слизерину, название которого — производное от фразы «slither in» (проскользнуть внутрь), Гриффиндор — это вариант написания французской фразы «gryphon d’or» (золотой грифон).

Этот символ часто использовался в средневековой геральдике. Грифон — мифическое существо, помесь льва и орла. Кажется, гордому зверю на гербе Гриффиндора не хватает парочки крыльев.

Ты могла видеть Полную даму в двух фильмах о Гарри Поттере. В «Гарри Поттере и философском камне» (2001) ее играет актриса Элизабет Спригг. Образ Дамы строгий и сдержанный, несмотря на роскошное розовое платье.

12. Мальчикам вход запрещен

Если обратиться к книге «История Хогвартса», то можно узнать, почему лестница, ведущая к общежитиям девочек заколдована немного иначе, чем та, что поднимается к спальням мальчиков.

Юные волшебники не имеют права входить в спальни для девочек, а волшебницы в общежития для мальчиков входить могут. Дело в том, что четыре Основателя посчитали девушек более порядочными и потому эти ограничения их не касаются.

11. Годрик Гриффиндор — защитник прав магглорожденных

Более тысячи лет назад основатели школы спорили, могут ли магглорожденные учиться в Хогвартсе. Годрик Гриффиндор настаивал на том, что происхождение не должно влиять на обучение магии. Ему противостоял Салазар Слизерин. Он был приверженцем концепции о чистоте крови и считал, что магглы должны быть изгнаны из Хогвартса.

Эти разногласия положили конец дружбе между двумя волшебниками. В итоге Хельга Хаффлпафф и Ровена Когтевран встали на сторону Годрика, и ученикам, рожденным в обычных семьях, разрешили посещать школу магии.

10. Модное решение Годрика Гриффиндора

До того, как Шляпу стали использовать для церемоний распределения, она была аксессуаром одного из основателей Хогвартса — Годрика Гриффиндора.

До превращения Шляпы в магический артефакт, распределением учеников по факультетам занимались сами основатели школы.

9. Уизли и Поттеры учились не только в Гриффиндоре

У Рона Уизли есть как минимум один близкий родственник, который не был распределен на этот факультет. Это его бабушка, Седрелла Блэк: она училась на Слизерине. Туда же попал и сын Гарри, Альбус Северус, о чем мы узнаем в пьесе «Гарри Поттер и Проклятое дитя».

8. Гриффиндорцы — мастера трансфигурации

Вот тебе несколько доказательств. Декан Гриффиндора, профессор Минерва МакГонагалл, преподает трансфигурацию и может обращаться в кошку. До нее эту должность занимал Альбус Дамблдор — еще один гриффиндорец!

Отец Гарри, Джеймс Поттер, учился на Гриффиндоре вместе с Сириусом Блэком и Питером Петтигрю. Все трое были талантливыми анимагами.

Согласно сайту Pottermore, так называются моменты сомнения Распределяющей Шляпы. Это когда она не может решить, на какой факультет отправить того или иного первокурсника. Такое случается раз в 50 лет.

Поломать мозги Шляпу заставили Питер Петигрю (Гриффиндор или Слизерин), Минерва МакГонагалл и Гермиона Грейнджер (Гриффиндор или Рейвенкло), а также Невилл Лонгботтом (Гриффиндор или Хаффлпафф).

3. Профессор Флитвик мог стать деканом Гриффиндора

В одном из постов на Pottermore Джоан Роулинг написала, что МакГонагалл и Флитквик частенько размышляли о том, как бы изменилась их жизнь, если профессор трансфигурации попала бы на факультет Когтевран, а профессор заклинаний — на Гриффиндор.

Если бы Распределяющая Шляпа сделала другой выбор, то, вполне возможно, деканом Гриффиндора мог стать профессор Филиус Флитвик!

2. Годрик Гриффиндор и его наследники

Гарри Поттер: русский след и «поттерозамещение»

В двадцатых числах июня 1997 года на прилавках британских книжных магазинов появилось первое издание романа «Гарри Поттер и философский камень». Таким образом, волшебнику — не персонажу, которому, согласно паспортным данным, уже за 40, а эстетической единице, — летом 2022 года в пору подпеть молодому Гребенщикову: «Мне 25, но я до сих пор не знаю, чего хочу».

Ну а для нас это повод поразмыслить: если вселенная Джоан Роулинг столь обширна, нет ли в ней и наших соотечественников? Есть, конечно, и немало. Как минимум две «славянских» магических школы, директор Хогвартса из рода Рюриковичей, ленинградский подстаканник из кабинета Дамблдора — все эти темы уже обсуждались в Сети, но по отдельности. Что ж, пришла пора собрать Колдовстворец, магов-комсомольцев и другие радости в одной статье.

Бородачи в мехах на подводной лодке

В четвёртом томе семикнижия Роулинг — «Гарри Поттер и Кубок огня» — в Хогвартс для участия в Турнире трёх волшебников прибывают делегации из двух зарубежных образовательных учреждений. Первая школа, Шармбатон, французская. Вторая, Дурмстранг, расположена где-то на севере. Где конкретно, не говорят — скрывают.

Иногда утверждается, что Дурмстранг в Болгарии, поскольку там учится Виктор Крам — игрок болгарской сборной по квиддичу. Однако это как минимум необязательно: в том же Хогвартсе есть не только англичане, но и жители, например, Индии.

И потом — какой в Болгарии север? Экипировка студентов Дурмстранга включает в себя изделия из меха, которые вряд ли понадобились бы на Балканском полуострове.

В пользу того, что Дурмстранг даже если и не относится к территории России, то имеет к ней прямое отношение, говорят имя и личность директора школы. Человек по имени Игорь Каркаров в экранизации 2005 года выглядит как стандартный «плохой» русский: хмурый бородач, похожий на Ивана Грозного или Григория Распутина.

В студентах профессора Каркарова мы также видим стереотипы о жителях славянских государств. Все как на подбор грубоватые крепкие мужики, которые не выпускают из рук оружия и всегда готовы им помахать. О том, что в Дурмстранге учатся девушки, нет ни слова — видимо, недостаточно суровы.

На гербе школы изображён двуглавый орёл, расправляющий крылья на фоне купола-луковицы, которым обычно украшают православные храмы — куда уж толще намёк. Ну и на сладкое: дурмстрангцы путешествуют на плавающем под водой корабле с иллюминаторами. В фильме он показан как старинное парусное судно — но фактически это подводная лодка, полная агрессивных бородачей с палками. Такая вот волшебная «клюква».

Здесь надо оговориться, что в самом по себе слове «клюква» нет ничего плохого: дурное дело именем съедобной ягоды не назовут. При этом понятно, что у некоторых читателей и зрителей жанр, который обычно называют «клюквой», спровоцирует отрицательные эмоции. Но у иных сограждан те же самые фильмы и книги вызывают смех — и вряд ли их стоит за это осуждать. В конце концов, улыбаться, а не гневаться, банально полезнее для нервных клеток.

Да и «клюква» Роулинг всё-таки будет заковыристее некоторых. Одного из русских героев мира Гарри Поттера зовут Антонин Долохов — явная аллюзия на Долохова из «Войны и мира», который вымотал все нервы Пьеру Безухову. Желание писательницы оставлять пасхалки для тех, кто не просто читал Толстого, но и помнит имена его второстепенных персонажей, кажется довольно симпатичным.

Закончив писать заключительный седьмой том, Роулинг продолжала достраивать магическую вселенную. Мама Ро, как называют её фанаты, придумала, в частности, «нормальную» школу для россиян и стран бывшего СССР. Школа ведовства Колдовстворец появилась на сайте Wizarding World, ранее известном как Pottermore — там писательница публикует новые факты о Гарри Поттере. Вскоре школа стала очень популярной среди русскоязычных фанов.

Сегодня в Сети есть целая энциклопедия, посвящённая Колодвстворцу. Из неё можно узнать, что, хотя школа «принимает учеников из Беларуси, Украины, Казахстана, Узбекистана, Армении» и других государств, в странах СНГ есть собственные магические институты. Это и Ереванская академия магов имени Георгия Гурджиева, и Назарбаевская школа магического направления в городе Нур-Султан — всего около десятка.

Никто не запрещает открывать в одной стране сразу несколько колдовских школ. В республике Беларусь их целых три штуки: Радзивиловская школа академии и ворожбы в городе Несвиж Минской области, Первый Полесский лицей в Полесье и Академия практической магии имени Всеслава Чародея в Полоцке. Теперь уже не кажется странным, что Рубеус Хагрид, когда навещал сородичей-великанов, держал путь через Минск. Судя по всему, белорусская земля просто кишит магией. Вот как Рубеус рассказывал об этом отрезке путешествия в книге «Гарри Поттер и Орден феникса»:

«Наткнулись на пару сумасшедших троллей на польской границе, и в минской пивной с вампиром малость повздорил, а так всё прошло как по маслу».

К слову, согласно книге, великаны обитают недалеко от Белоруссии, но восточнее и в горах. А это значит — почти наверняка на Кавказе. То есть, возможно, на территории России.

Харитонова-Хорькова и Баба-яга

Один из самых распространённых в интернете фактов о Колдовстворце заставляет предположить, что тамошние маги ещё безбашеннее, чем студенты Дурмстранга. Согласно сайту «Гарри Поттер вики», где публикуются переводы информации с Wizarding World, колдовстворские школяры играют в «особую версию квиддича». В ней спортсмены летают не на мётлах, а на «целых, вырванных с корнем деревьях». Конечно, неэкологично, зато размашисто и живописно.

Но хороши ли россияне в традиционном квиддиче с мётлами? Судя по всему, получше, чем в футболе. Из книги «Квиддич с древности до наших дней» можно узнать об именитом игроке Петре Порскове, авторе собственного финта. В главе «Квиддич сегодня» говорится:

Охотник с квоффлом в руках взлетает вверх, как будто хочет удрать от охотников команды противника и пробить по кольцу, а сам вместо этого резко бросает квоффл вниз, передавая его другому охотнику. При выполнении важны точность и слаженность действий обоих игроков. Приём назван в честь русского игрока Петра Порскова».

Далеко не каждый, прочитав это, поймёт, о чём идёт речь. Однако какая-никакая гордость за отчизну возникает.

А вот любопытный факт: в англоязычной версии книги о квиддиче Порсков был женщиной. Как же вышло, что при переводе он поменял пол? Проанализировав ситуацию, фанаты сошлись во мнении: мама Ро накосячила. Писательница не разобралась в особенностях русскоязычных фамилий и назвала героиню Petrova Porskoff, где Петрова — имя, а Проскофф — фамилия.

В свою очередь в издательстве «РОСМЭН», видимо, тоже не слишком заморочились и сделали из девочки мальчика. Но есть и другие варианты перевода: Мария Спивак назвала эту героиню Устиньей Улепётовой. А «народный» фанатский перевод предложил девушку без имени, зато с двойной фамилией — Харитонова-Хорькова.

Согласно «Гарри Поттер вики», Petrova Porskoff входит в четвёрку самых известных магов из России. Кроме неё, в перечне Антонин Долохов, корреспондент московской газеты «Голос волшебника» 1920‑х годов Юрий Блишенков и — внезапно — Баба-яга.

Первый и пока единственный раз Babayaga (с ударением на последний слог) встречается с Гарри Поттером в компьютерной игре «Гарри Поттер и узник Азкабана». Правда, не лично, а в качестве портрета на одной из коллекционных волшебных карточек, которые игроку необходимо разыскивать. Подпись к карточке с Ягой в русскоязычной версии игры гласит:

«Русская ведьма. Жила в избушке на курьих ножках. Ела на завтрак маленьких детей (возможно, также и на обед, и на ужин)».

В том же «Узнике Азкабана» можно обнаружить примечательный портрет, в котором без труда узнаётся царь всея Руси Иван IV, он же Иван Грозный. За основу разработчики взяли портрет кисти Васнецова и трансформировали в «магическом» духе.

В сетевом журнале «Культурология.РФ» можно прочесть обширную статью с заголовком «Что делает Иван Грозный в школе волшебников, или Какие шедевры живописи украшали стены знаменитого Хогвартса». Её автор приметил, что изображения Ивана Васильевича есть не только в игре, но и в «настоящем» кабинете Дамблдора.

На этот счёт у фанатов возникло две теории. По одной версии, Иван Грозный когда-то учился в Хогвартсе и был столь успешен, что попал на «доску почёта». Другая версия предполагает, что он умудрялся одновременно занимать и царский трон, и кресло главы Хогвартса, а после смерти, по школьной традиции, поселился в директорском кабинете в виде живописного полотна. Так или иначе, теперь экспрессивный нрав правителя, которого англоговорящие называют Ivan the Terrible, получил объяснение: попробуй всё время мотаться из Англии в Россию и обратно — никаких нервов не хватит.

Грозный — не единственный россиянин, чьи портреты сопровождают Гарри Поттера по пути с лекции на лекцию. В коридорах и кабинетах с холстов поглядывают Нестор Кукольник, Вера Репина и протодьякон Иван Уланов. Первый — с «Портрета Нестора Кукольника» Карла Брюллова, а вторая и третий с картин «Отдых. Портрет В. А. Репиной, жены художника» и «Протодьякон» Ильи Репина.

Если вы думаете, что зритель, который рассматривает в приключенческом фильме картины на стенах, — это предел дотошности, тогда как вам такое? В 2021 году газета «Аргументы и факты» опубликовала новость с сенсационным заголовком: «Россиянка обнаружила в фильме про Гарри Поттера советский подстаканник». Материал содержит ссылку на медиа «360°», которое, в свою очередь, ссылается на телеграм-канал MILF, где рассказывается:

«Смотрела тут давеча с ребёнком Гарри Поттера (часть шесть, про Принца-полукровку). Примерно на 02:19:00, когда Гарри заходит в кабинет Дамблдора, становится понятно, что профессор пил чай из подстаканника Ленинградской ювелирной фабрики. Судя по клейму (ЛЮ1М), подстаканник этот Дамблдор отхватил в ДЛТ (Дом Ленинградской Торговли. — Прим.) между 1950–1961 годами».

С вопросом, правда ли в Хогвартсе пьют чай из советских подстаканников, журналисты обратились к антикварам. Эксперты подтвердили: в кадр попал «ленинградец». Но не увидели в этом ничего особенного: кто-то из эмигрантов мог увезти популярную вещь с собой. Затем подстаканник осел в комиссионке, где его, вероятно, нашли реквизиторы фильма «Гарри Поттер и Принц-полукровка».

Фантастические твари: погребин и штырехвост

У серии фильмов о Гарри Поттере есть приквел — «Фантастические твари и где они обитают»: приключения мага-зоолога Ньюта Саламандера в первой половине XX века. По сюжету, Саламандер — автор книги «Фантастические звери и места их обитания», которую в 2009 году выпустили на русском языке.

В учебнике можно найти сведения как о тех существах, которые знакомы по книгам и фильмам, так и о тех, которые ранее поттероманам не встречались. Среди последних обитающие в России погребины и штырехвосты. Вот кто такой, согласно Саламандеру, погребин:

«Демон, обитающий в России, высотой чуть более фута, с мохнатым туловищем и большой гладкой серой головой. Скорчившись, погребин становится похож на блестящий округлый камень. Погребины стараются держаться поближе к людям, ходят за ними по пятам, прячась в их тени, а если человек оглянется, мгновенно припадают к земле. Если позволить погребину следовать за собой в течение нескольких часов, у жертвы появляется ощущение безысходности, переходящей в отчаяние и безволие. Когда жертва падает на колени и начинает плакать над беспросветностью жизни, погребин набрасывается на неё и пожирает. Впрочем, его легко отогнать при помощи несложных чар, заклятия „Остолбеней!“ или просто пинками».

А вот что из себя представляют штырехвосты:

«Демоны, широко распространённые в Западной Европе, России и Америке. Они похожи на поросят с длинными ногами, коротеньким толстым хвостиком и узкими чёрными глазками. Штырехвост пробирается в свинарник и сосёт обыкновенную свиноматку вместе с её собственным потомством. Чем дольше штырехвост остаётся незамеченным и чем крупнее вырастает, тем дольше продолжается неурожай в поражённом им хозяйстве, болеют животные и растения.

Поймать штырехвоста очень трудно, поскольку передвигается он быстро. Впрочем, если его прогонит со двора белая собака без единого пятнышка, он больше не вернётся. В Отделе регулирования магических популяций и контроля над ними (Сектор по борьбе с домашними вредителями) специально для этого держат дюжину гончих-альбиносов».

На страницах «Фантастических зверей…» предлагается классификация животных по уровню интересности и опасности для волшебников: от одного значка X (не представляющее интереса) до XXXXX (смертельное для волшебников / не поддаётся приручению). «Наши» штырехвост с погребином расположились в этом рейтинге ровно посередине: три икса, то есть «справится любой квалифицированный волшебник». Разумеется, если вы магл, лучше даже не пытаться.

Ларин Пётр и комсомольская организация

В 2002 году — то есть лет за 20 до того, как это стало мейнстримом, — фантаст Дмитрий Емец «импортозаместил» романы о Гарри Поттере и выпустил книгу «Таня Гроттер и магический контрабас». Серия начиналась по принципу пародии «всё наоборот»: у них мальчик, а у нас девочка и так далее. В итоге шуточное произведение выросло в самостоятельное фэнтези. Его персонажи летают на пылесосах, потому что мётлы устарели, и гораздо больше заняты личной жизнью, чем борьбой с тёмными магами. Последние несколько томов «Тани» больше напоминают сериал из жизни страстных латиноамериканцев, чем детище мамы Ро.

В мире Гроттер есть и Гарри Поттер. Правда, мальчика в очках там зовут Гурий Пуппер. Учится он в Магфорде, а не в Хогвартсе, но за этой немудрёной защитой от нарушения закона об авторском праве не скрыть авторского замысла. Школа магии Тибидохс на пушкинском острове Буян — это не альтернативная Поттеру реальность, а ровно та же самая. Но со взглядом не из чопорной Англии, а из России-матушки. На смену британской серьёзности пришли шуточки и заигрывание с фольклором в духе «Понедельник начинается в субботу» братьев Стругацких.

Хотя с обвинениями в копипасте Емец всё-таки столкнулся, на издании его книг в России это никак не отразилось. Тут-то и другие авторы поняли, что можно, и пошло-поехало: «Порри Гаттер» белорусов Андрея Жвалевского и Игоря Мытько, «Денис Котик» Алины Бояриной, «Ларин Пётр» Ярослава Морозова, «Харри Проглоттер» Сергея Панарина, «Мальчик Гарри и его собака Поттер» Валентина Постникова, «Дети против волшебников» Никоса Зерваса и так далее. Зачастую на обложке — парнишка в круглых очках, который даже за пушкинско-милицейской фамилией Ларин не в состоянии скрыть схожесть с актёром Дэниелом Рэдклиффом.

Почти все подобные серии книг ограничивались в лучшем случае тремя-четырьмя томиками. Сегодня о них помнят разве что филологи-исследователи литературных пародий. Единственная, кому удалось избежать забвения, — та, с которой всё и началось, «Таня Гроттер». 14 томов, множество переизданий, переводы на иностранные языки. Возможно, секрет в том, что Емец решился на то, на что не отважилась и сама Роулинг, — создать феминистское, женскоцентричное фэнтези. В наши дни очевидно, что образ сильной и независимой Татьяны, которая сражается с Чумой-дель-Торт (аналог Волан-де-Морта), а в свободное время парит над миром на летающем контрабасе — это не только красиво, но и очень прогрессивно.

В 2022 году Дмитрий Емец в интервью газете «Фонтанка» вспоминал о рождении «девочки, которая выжила»:

«Изначально это был просто пародийный перевёртыш. Но я и без того сделал бы девочку, у меня часто главные героини — девочки. Сейчас мир всё больше и больше становится женским. Женщина лучше обучается, вытесняет мужчину и на работе, и везде. Мужчине, чтобы выживать и выдерживать конкуренцию, нужно искать себе либо умную жену, либо нишу. У мужчин мозги лучше работают на что-то неожиданное. Это связано с тем, что мы хуже обучаемся. А раз хуже обучаемся, приходится развивать нестандартное мышление».

Яркий пример «мужчины, развившего в себе нестандартное мышление» — писатель и журналист Дмитрий Быков. В 2014 году на базе лектория «Прямая речь» он прочёл захватывающую неожиданным подходом лекцию «Евангелие от Роулинг», в которой предложил читать историю Гарри Поттера как новый христологический текст. А заодно не удержался и допустил, что книги мамы Ро в действительности написаны не о «волшебной» Англии, а о современной России:

«Особенно приятно, что она это всё про нас, ребята, и написала. Давеча, готовясь к этому мероприятию, пересмотрели фильм про Орден Феникса. Должен вам сказать, что Долорес Амбридж — это классическая комсомольская руководительница. Я не могу сказать, что она похожа на Валентину Ивановну Матвиенко, но определённые жесты, стиль общения… И особенно убедительна её улыбка, с которой она рассаживает влюблённых, чтоб не целовались нам тут».

От шутейных параллелей Дмитрий Львович перешёл к более серьёзным аналогиям. И закончил лекцию монологом, который с 2014 года лишь прибавил в актуальности:

«Надо помнить, конечно, и о том, что борьба в безнадёжных обстоятельствах — это и есть истинный сюжет „Гарри Поттера“. Министерство магии захвачено. Абсолютно подпольные силы вырвались на волю. Всякого рода Клариссы, Беллатриса и прочие Блэки — причём никаких Сириусов среди них нет — чётко реализуют свою программу. Всё на их стороне.

Но, как показывает нам опыт „Гарри Поттера“, роковой перелом происходит именно тогда, когда всё на их стороне. Потому что под их тяжестью этот корабль переворачивается. Как же нам себя в это время вести? А вот нам себя надо вести как Гарри Поттер.

Сегодня нам нужно читать и перечитывать „Гарри Поттера“, потому что, когда кажется, что Отряд Дамблдора — это всего лишь 20 человек, надо помнить, что, когда дойдёт до дела, на нашей стороне будут все горгульи, все великаны и все лестницы».

Быков напоминает, цитируя Дамблдора: в Хогвартсе тот, кто просит помощи, всегда её получает. Но что такое в этом случае Хогвартс, кто просящий и какой должна быть подмога — каждый должен решить для себя самостоятельно.

Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Волшебный Мир Гарри Поттера (англ. Wizarding World of Harry Potter ) — тематический парк развлечений в духе Гарри Поттера. История

31 мая 2007 года Universal Orlando объявили о том, что Warner Bros и писательница Джоан К.Роулинг обеспечили их правами на создание парка. Парк площадью 81 000 м² должен воссоздать мир Гарри Поттера на основе одноименных книг и фильмов. Строительство начали в 2007 году. 25 марта 2010 года была объявлена официальная дата открытия (18 июня 2010).

20 мая 2010 — Парк открылся для почетных гостей — Эмма Уотсон, Оливер Фелпс, Джеймс Фелпс, Мэттью Льюис и Робби Колтрейн были первыми актёрами, ознакомившиеся с парком. Они провели насыщенный день: побывали в главных заведениях парка, оценили сливочное пиво, получили волшебную палочку и прокатились на всех горках. Визит в парк освещался прессой.

This policy explains how we collect, use, and disclose your data, and how we use cookies.

It covers all the data collection activities (online and offline) of two Wizarding World Digital entities, Wizarding World Digital LLC and Wizarding World Digital Limited (“we”, “us” or “our”). It includes information we collect through our various Wizarding World digital channels, such as websites, mobile apps, streaming services and third-party social networks, as well as through customer care centres, points of sale and events that link directly to this policy (together, the “sites”).

This policy tells you how you can access and update your personal information and make certain choices about how it is used. It also explains rights you have to object to processing for direct marketing purposes and to object to processing that is not required by law or necessary for us to provide the sites, and how you can exercise those rights.

California law also requires us to provide certain information about how we collect and use the personal information of California residents and to grant those California residents certain rights with respect to their data. If you are a California resident, see the California and CCPA Privacy Rights, Metrics, and Disclosures section of this Policy for these disclosures and a description of your privacy rights. These privacy rights include a right to access, delete, or opt out of the sale of your personal information and require us to provide metrics related to the exercise of such privacy rights

For certain offerings on our sites, there may be additional notices about our privacy practices and choices, each of which will be considered to form part of this policy.

DATA CONTROLLERS

This privacy policy is provided by Wizarding World Digital LLC and its subsidiary Wizarding World Digital Limited, which jointly control how your personal information is used. The contact us section later in this policy explains how you can contact us.

In some cases, third parties may act as independent controllers of your personal information, as explained further below.

CHILDREN’S PRIVACY

In various countries, local data protection laws treat individuals under a certain age as children whose personal information requires additional protection under such laws (“children”). For example, the relevant age of a child for the purposes of obtaining valid consent from individuals to collect their personal information by online means is 13 in the UK and 16 in Ireland.

For data collected about children, read our Children’s Privacy Policy, which sets out information about our privacy practices and choices for children. Please read that policy carefully, whether you are a child, parent or guardian.
If you believe your child has provided us with personal information without your authorisation and you would like to have the personal information deleted, contact us as described below.

THE INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Personal data and other personal information. When you interact with our sites, we may collect and combine different types of personal information. We refer to this as “information” for short. The information may include:

Registration, account and sign-up information. We collect information about you in the course of your use of the site(s) or registration with us. For example, when you create or update an account, register for or download an app, or sign up for one of our offerings, you provide us with certain information, which includes your name and email address, and may include your photo or social-media profile. We may also receive information about your interest in and use of various products, services, programs, virtual items, content and activities (which we refer to below as “products” for short) that are available on or through our sites. You may also provide or be allocated certain details, such as a nickname, user name, password, Wizarding World attributes and/or other profile information.

Product purchase. If you make a purchase on one of our sites, our payment providers or the entity handling the sale will also collect certain payment information (e.g. payment method, billing information and delivery address).

Information about others / inviting friends. In certain situations, we collect information submitted by people you know. For example, a friend might submit information to invite you to take part in an offering, send you a gift, make recommendations or share content. They also may provide your details through an “invite your friends” function or by importing contacts from their address book or from social media sites. By processing those requests, we will receive your information, including details such as your name, email address, social-media profile, postal address and/or telephone number, and/or information about your interests in and use of various products.

Information from affiliates and third parties. We combine the information we process about you with information we receive from other organisations. This includes information from Warner Bros. and Pottermore affiliates, organisations sponsoring or co-branding our or our affiliates’ content, as well as demographic and other information from other business partners, advertising companies and research services.

Wizarding Passport™. You may choose to register for one or more of our sites through a Wizarding Passport, which refers to both your account and certain of the information you provide or are allocated in connection with your account (such as your Hogwarts house, wand, patronus, pet etc.). Your Wizarding Passport will identify you as a “member” of the Wizarding World sites and services and will serve as your credentials for logging into and using the sites and services and for other purposes. If you use a Wizarding Passport to connect your Wizarding World Digital account to an account maintained by one of our business partners, then we will share certain information from your profile with that partner. We will tell you what information will be shared before you connect with another organisation via the Wizarding Passport. When you do connect with that organisation, we may receive certain information in return (e.g. achievements in a game).

Social media. You can engage with some of our content and offerings, such as videos, apps and other offerings on or through third-party communities, forums and other social media sites, services, plug-ins and apps (“social media sites”). When you link to our sites or interact with us or our content through social media sites, you may choose for us to receive certain information from your social media account (e.g. name, user ID, email address, social-media profile, photos and videos, gender, birthday, your list of friends and their contact details, people you follow and/or who follow you, the posts or the “likes” you make). We may also receive information from your interaction with our content (e.g. content viewed and information about advertisements you have been shown or have clicked on).

Location information. We may have access to certain information about your general location, such as your country or address, when you provide it or via information (such as an IP address or device settings) relating to your computer, mobile phone or other device. With consent (where required by law), we may also collect information about your device’s precise location (e.g. geolocation via mobile devices).

Camera access. For some services or features, we will ask for permission to access your device’s camera. If you grant permission, you may be able to take pictures or video within the app experience or to access certain augmented reality (“AR”) features. Some of these features may rely on camera systems to track movements of your eyes and other facial features or your immediate surroundings to apply AR effects. Information gathered from facial scanning technology, e.g., TrueDepth API, is only used to make these services and features available to you and is only persistent on the device during use of the AR features. Facial data is not stored on our systems nor shared with any third party.

Technical and usage information. We also collect certain technical and usage information such as the type of device, browser and operating system you are using, your internet service provider or mobile carrier, unique device identifier, IDFA or IDFV, MAC address, IP address, device and browser settings, the webpages and apps you use, advertisements you see and interact with, and certain site usage information across our sites and other sites and apps. Please see our Cookies and other technologies section below for more information on how we may use those technologies to collect that information.

Customer enquiries. Where you contact us through one of our customer help desks or customer call centres or where you get in touch with us by email or using an online form, we will ask you for some information, including why you are getting in touch. We may have access to any relevant product that you have purchased, your purchase history, your previous correspondence with us and/or your contact details.

Market Research. We may contact you to provide feedback to help us develop and improve our products and services. We may collect this feedback through telephone or other interviews with you, where we may record and transcribe these discussions.

We may combine information that we collect from the Wizarding World websites with data collected from the Wizarding World mobile apps and other services.

Non-personal information. In addition, we may collect certain information that is not personal information, such as anonymous analytics data.

If you fail to provide information. Where we need to collect personal information by law, or under the terms of a contract that we have with you, and you fail to provide that information when requested, we may not be able to perform the contract that we have or are trying to enter into with you (for example, to provide you with products).

HOW WE USE THE INFORMATION

We use your personal information for the processing purposes and related lawful bases described below (or disclosed at the time of collection):

(1) Basis: where necessary to perform a contract with you (or to take steps at your request before entering into a contract)

Purposes of processing:

a. To provide you with access to content, products, services and other features on or via the sites.

b. To process your registration for a site, competition, prize draw or contest, and to administer your account or entry in accordance with any related contractual terms.

c. To send you information about changes to our terms or policies.

d. To process your payment and to fulfil your purchase or other transaction, including related communications about those.

(2) Basis: where necessary for purposes of our or third parties’ legitimate interests

Purposes of processing (and related legitimate interests):

a. To respond to your enquiries, e.g. to send you information you have requested, and to offer customer/user support services (fulfilling your request and providing you with such assistance).

b. To assist with the security and safety of our sites and users, e.g. by trying to prevent unauthorised or malicious activities (making our sites safe for users).

c. To enforce compliance with our terms and policies and to help other organisations, such as copyright owners, to enforce their rights, including by sharing your information with relevant third parties to assist us or them in pursuing available remedies and/or limiting any loss or damage sustained (protecting our and others’ rights).

d. To detect and prevent fraud (tackling fraudulent activity).

e. To analyse and understand how our sites are used, including by aggregating data about categories of users and by informing surveys, so that we can develop, maintain, personalise, protect and improve our sites (researching site usage and compiling usage statistics with a view to operating our sites more effectively and enhancing them to improve your experience).

f. To process your log-in to our sites using social media or other credentials or to facilitate your interaction within our sites and with social media or other third parties through our sites, where we do not need your consent to do so (authenticating users, facilitating your movement to, through and from our sites and other third parties and otherwise improving your experience of our sites and linked social media).

g. To send direct marketing to you and to tailor content, advertisements, offers and surveys for you, where we do not need consent to do so (promoting content, products and services from us and/or our affiliates, direct or via our or their advertising partners, that we believe may be of interest to you).

h. To improve and develop our products and services, which may include recording and transcribing any feedback that is collected from you through telephone or other interviews that we conduct, or that are conducted by us or on our behalf by third parties.

(3) Basis: where you give us consent

Purposes of processing:

a. To send direct marketing communications to you at your request, where we need your consent (for example, marketing emails or push notifications).

b. To place cookies and to use similar technologies with your consent (where we need your consent to do so).

c. To collect your precise location with your consent (where we need your consent to do so).

d. To process your log-in to our sites using social media or other credentials or to facilitate your interaction within our sites and with social media or other third parties through our sites, where we need your consent to do so.

e. On other occasions where we ask you for consent, for a purpose which we explain at that time.

(4) Basis: where necessary for complying with our legal obligations

Purposes of processing:

a. In response to requests by government or law enforcement authorities conducting an investigation.

b. To comply with any other legal requirements.

INFORMATION SHARING AND DISCLOSURE

We share and disclose your information in the ways described below or for other purposes that we explain when we collect your personal information. We may share your information with the organisations below, their personnel, or people providing services to them (e.g. professional advisers who are connected with the activity described). When we share personal information with service providers, they usually only process personal data in accordance with our instructions, as data processors. The other third parties listed below are independent controllers of the information, unless otherwise specified.

Law enforcement bodies and courts. We may disclose your information in response to legal process, for example in response to a court order or a subpoena, or in response to a law enforcement body’s request. We may also disclose your information to third parties (including, but not limited to, the police, the courts, governmental departments and/or any other bodies of competent authority): (i) in connection with fraud prevention activities; (ii) where we believe it is necessary to investigate, prevent or take action regarding illegal activities; (iii) in situations that may involve violations of our terms of use or other rules; (iv) to protect our rights and the rights and safety of others; and/or (v) as otherwise required by law.

Change of control. We may transfer your information in the event of a business transaction to another person, such as if we or one of our business units or our relevant assets are acquired by, sold to, or merged with another company or as part of a bankruptcy or insolvency proceeding or a business reorganisation.

Service providers. Our agents and contractors may have access to your information to help carry out the services they are performing for us (e.g. fulfilment, creation, maintenance, hosting and delivery of our sites and/or products; conduct of marketing; account registration; handling payments; email and order fulfilment; administering competitions; conducting research and analytics; customer service; data processing; IT and communication services; public relations; and/or professional advice).

Wizarding World Digital entities and affiliates. If one of us, i.e. Wizarding World Digital LLC or Wizarding World Digital Limited, separately collects any of your information in the first instance, then the collecting entity will share such information with the other (acting as a joint controller). If we establish any subsidiaries, we may share your information with them for use in accordance with this policy (e.g. as processors acting on our instructions). We also share information with our Warner Bros. and Pottermore affiliates to use in accordance with their own privacy policies, including (with permission, where required) to provide, improve, offer, market and otherwise communicate with you about their own products.

Linked sites. Some of our sites contain links to other sites, including social media sites, whose privacy practices may be different from ours. You should consult the other sites’ privacy policies and terms before submitting any of your information, as we have no control over information that is submitted to, or collected by, those third parties.

Sponsors, co-promoters and other third parties relating to the promotion of the Wizarding World. We sometimes offer content or programs (e.g. competitions, promotions, games, apps or social media site integrations) that are sponsored by, co-branded with or otherwise promoted by identified third parties. By virtue of those relationships, the third parties collect or obtain information from you when participating in the activity. The third parties will use the data they collect in accordance with their own privacy policies. We encourage you to look at the privacy policies and terms of any such third party to learn about their privacy practices. If you use the Wizarding World Passport to connect with other organisations that accept the Passport, then we may share information with those organisations. We will tell you what information we will share with each organisation at the time you choose to link your accounts.

Advertising networks. We may share certain information with reputable third parties to provide advertising to you based on your interests. For more information, see the next two sections, Your marketing and advertising choices and Cookies and other technologies.

Authorities. Our local tax authorities and regulators sometimes require us to report our processing activities.

With permission. We may also share certain information with third parties where you give us permission to do this.

We use or disclose your information in anonymised form at our discretion, such as to help us improve our sites and products.

YOUR MARKETING AND ADVERTISING CHOICES

Advertising choices. We work with reputable third parties to present advertisements to you on our sites and on third-party websites and applications. Those third parties collect information in order to confirm if ads have been delivered and viewed. They may also obtain information about applications you use, websites you visit and information about your devices and browsers in order to help serve advertising that is more relevant to your interests. These ads could be served on our sites or on third-party sites and applications. This is known as interest-based advertising. Third parties use cookies, web beacons, pixels and/or similar technologies to perform this activity. They also use information to associate various browsers and devices together for the purpose of interest-based advertising and other purposes like analytics.

For more information about interest-based advertising on your desktop or mobile browser, and your ability to opt out of this type of advertising on your browser by third parties that participate in self-regulatory programs, visit:

if you are based in the USA, the Network Advertising Initiative and/or the DAA’s consumer choice tool;

if you are based in Canada, the DAAC’s consumer opt-out tool;

if you are based in Europe, the EDAA’s Your Online Choices;

if you are based in Australia, the ADAA’s www.youronlinechoices.com.au; or

if you are based elsewhere, any equivalent website that might be run by a local body that co-ordinates online advertising choices. To learn more about interest-based advertising in mobile apps and to opt out of this type of advertising by third parties that participate in the DAA’s AppChoices tool, download a version of AppChoices for your device.

To opt out of interest-based advertising in your apps, you may have more options depending on your mobile device and operating system. For example, most device operating systems (e.g. iOS for Apple phones, Android for Android devices, and Windows for Microsoft devices) provide their own instructions on how to limit or prevent the delivery of tailored in-app advertisements. You can review the support materials and/or the privacy settings for the respective operating systems to learn more about those features and how they apply to tailored in-app advertisements.

Please note if you opt out through the self-regulatory programs above, this will only apply to interest-based advertising by the third parties you select. You will continue to receive advertising, but that advertising may be less relevant to your interests. If you use a different device or browser or delete your cookies, you may need to renew your opt-out choice or, where consent is required for cookies, to opt in.

Precise location information. To disable the collection of precise location information from your mobile device through our mobile apps, you can access your mobile device settings and choose to limit that collection.

Camera. You can disable access to your camera for use in connection with photos or augmented reality features in your mobile device settings.

COOKIES AND OTHER TECHNOLOGIES

How we use cookies and other technologies. We use cookies, web beacons and/or similar technologies to understand and enhance your online experience at our sites and through our advertising and media across the internet, including social media sites and mobile apps as further described below. Our affiliates, as well as our and their advertising partners and other third-party service providers, also use such technologies for this purpose.

Cookies are small text files placed in your browser. Web beacons are small strings of code that provide a method for delivering a graphic image on a webpage for the purpose of transferring data, such as the IP address of the device that downloaded the page on which the web beacon appears, the URL of the page on which the web beacon appears, the time the page containing the web beacon was viewed, the type of browser that fetched the web beacon, and the identification number of any cookie on the device previously placed by that server.

We also use “Software Development Kits” (“SDKs”), java script and portions of code in our mobile apps to perform similar functions to cookies and web beacons. For example, SDKs collect technical and usage information such as mobile device identifiers and your interactions with our mobile app. Some of our sites use locally stored objects (“LSOs”) to provide content, such as video on demand, video clips or animation, and a better user experience.

We use cookies and similar technologies to help recognise your browser or device, maintain your preferences, provide certain site features, synchronise users across devices, collect information about your online interactions with our sites, our content and our communications and protect against, identify and prevent fraud and other unlawful activity.

Types of cookies and other technologies. We use the following types of cookies and similar technologies via our sites for the following purposes:

Strictly necessary cookies or similar technologies are essential in order to enable you to move around our sites or apps and use our features, such as accessing secure areas. Without them, services like enabling appropriate content based on your type of device cannot be provided.

Analytics cookies or similar technologies collect information about how you use our sites or apps, so that we can analyse traffic and understand users’ interactions to perform analytics, including to analyse, measure and report on usage and performance of our sites and marketing materials. For this purpose, we may use third-party service providers such as Google Analytics, who may use their own cookies or similar technologies. The information is used to improve our sites or products.

To opt out of Google Analytics relating to your use of our sites, you can download and install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on available via this link: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en.

Functional cookies or similar technologies allow our sites or apps to remember choices you make (such as your user name, or the region you are in) and to provide enhanced, more personal features. They can also be used to remember changes you have made to text size, fonts and other parts of webpages that you can customise. They may also be used to provide services you have asked for such as watching a video or commenting on a blog.

Advertising cookies or similar technologies allow us and our affiliates and our and their advertising partners to target, offer, market or advertise products. These cookies and other technologies also facilitate, manage and measure the performance of advertisements displayed on or delivered by or through our sites. These advertising partners may also have the capability to track your browsing across sites, apps and social media sites. See the Advertising choices section above for more information.

Social media cookies or similar technologies are used when you share content using a social media sharing button or “like” button on our sites or apps, or when you link your account or engage with our content on or through a social media site such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. The social network will record that you have done that. The information may be linked to targeting/advertising activities.

Managing cookies and other technologies.

If you are in the UK or EEA, you can use the cookie consent platform on our site to give or withdraw consent to our use of cookies. In other countries, you may be able to manage your consents for cookies and tracking technologies on our websites through settings.

On a mobile app, go to “Privacy settings” or your device settings. You can adjust your browser to reject cookies from us or from any other site operator. Controlling cookies via browser controls may not limit our use of other technologies. Please consult your browser’s settings for more information. Blocking cookies or similar technology might, however, prevent you from accessing some of our content or site features. You can also check your browser settings to learn how to delete cookies.

Adobe’s Flash player and similar applications use Local Shared Object (“LSO”) technology to remember settings, preferences and usage similar to browser cookies. Flash cookies are not managed through your web browser, but you can access your Flash management tools from Adobe’s website. Your browser may also offer other tools to delete or reject other LSOs; check your browser’s settings or help menu for more information.

We do not currently respond to Do Not Track signals because a uniform technological standard has not yet been developed. We continue to review new technologies and may adopt a standard once one is created.

DATA RETENTION AND SECURITY

In broad terms, we will only retain your personal information for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy. This means that the retention periods will vary according to the type of personal information and the reason that we have the personal information in the first place. For example, some personal information related to the provision of services to you or by you will be kept for a number of years in order to comply with various finance and tax-related legal obligations. Other service-related personal information may be kept for a different period because it is in our legitimate interests to do so in order to provide or receive an appropriate follow-up service.

After a retention period has elapsed, the personal information is securely deleted. We may, however, retain copies of your information in anonymised form, which we may use or disclose at our discretion, such as to help us improve our sites and products.

We have put in place reasonable controls (including physical, technological and administrative measures) designed to help safeguard the personal information that we collect via the sites. No security measures are perfect, however, and so we cannot assure you that personal information that we collect will never be accessed or used in an unauthorised way, which may happen due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control. We have put in place procedures to deal with a suspected personal data breach, and we shall notify you and any applicable regulator of a breach where we are legally required to do so.

YOUR PERSONAL DATA RIGHTS

Your legal rights. Under certain circumstances, you may have the following rights under data protection laws in relation to your personal information (which may be limited to personal data):

right of access to your personal information;

right to rectification of your personal information;

right to erasure of your personal information;

right to restriction of processing of your personal information;

right to portability of your personal information;

right to object to processing of your personal information;

right not to be subject to significant automated decision-making (including when based on profiling); and/or

right to withdraw consent to processing of your personal information.

Some of those rights may only apply to you if you are resident in the EEA or a country with similar data protection laws. To find out more about those specific rights, see the last paragraph of this section and your local data protection authority’s website, such as the ICO’s website (www.ico.org.uk), if you are located in the UK, or the Irish Data Protection Commission’s website (www.dataprotection.ie), if you are located in Ireland.

Additionally, California law grants California residents the right to, among other things, access, delete, and opt out of the sale of certain personal information. For more information, see the section on CALIFORNIA AND CCPA PRIVACY RIGHTS AND DISCLOSURES below.

Exercising your rights. If you wish to exercise any of those rights, please submit your request using this portal.

Your legal rights in more detail (for UK and other EEA residents). In certain circumstances, you have the following legal rights in relation to your personal information (to the extent consisting of “personal data” in the EEA and countries with similar data protection laws, and so we use that term in the rest of this section). We may ask you for additional information, so that we take reasonable steps to check that – for example – we only provide personal data to the person to whom the data relate.

Right of access to your personal data (also known as a «data subject access request»). This enables you to receive a copy of the personal data that we hold about you and to check that we are lawfully processing such data.

Right of rectification of the personal data that we hold about you. This enables you to have any incomplete or inaccurate data we hold about you corrected, although we may need to verify the accuracy of the new data that you provide to us.

Right to erasure of your personal data. This enables you to ask us to delete or remove personal data in certain circumstances. Please note, however, that we may retain your data in certain circumstances in accordance with law, which will be notified to you, if applicable, at the time of your request.

Right to restriction of processing of your personal data. This enables you to ask us to suspend the processing of your personal data in the following scenarios: (a) if you would like us to establish the accuracy of such data; (b) where our use of the data is unlawful, but you do not want us to erase it; (c) where you need us to hold the data even if we no longer require it as you need it to establish, exercise or defend legal claims; or (d) you have objected to our use of your data, but we need to verify whether we have overriding legitimate grounds to use it.

Right to portability of your personal data to you or to a third party. If you so request, we shall provide you, or a third party that you have chosen, with a copy of your personal data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format. Please note that this right only applies to automated information that you initially provided consent for us to use or where we used the information to perform our contract with you.

The hardest wizarding world spells

Magic, by its very nature, is difficult. That’s why witches and wizards go to Hogwarts – to learn how to control it. But there are certain spells that go beyond the capabilities of the average wizard; that require more than just knowing how to perform magic, but how to master it.

Here are some of the toughest…

Apparition and Disapparition

Apparition – the magical form of teleportation – is not the spell of masters. In fact, it’s a fairly common sight in the world of Harry Potter. But it is a spell that’s notoriously tricky to get right, and particularly bloody if it goes wrong. Hence why, to Apparate and Disapparate, wizards need to be over 17 and have a licence from the Department of Magical Transportation, which requires them to pass a test. Similar to Muggles and driving tests, but with slightly more chance of leaving your legs at home.

Apparition is so tricky because it requires a high level of mental skill – a level that most wizards, especially kids, are not capable of. When teaching Harry’s class in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Apparition Instructor Wilkie Twycross described the spell as consisting of three Ds: ‘Destination, Determination and Deliberation’. This, as you can imagine, leads to some wizards having their minds in two places at once, which usually ends in Splinching – having body parts in two places at once, as Ron gruesomely demonstrated in Deathly Hallows.

Non-verbal spells and wandless magic

As already established, magic is a difficult thing. But for difficulty level extreme, you need to go silent, or even hands-free.

Non-verbal spells are those typically performed with a wand, but without saying the incantation out loud. The advantage, according to Professor Snape, is that ‘those who progress to using magic without shouting incantations gain an element of surprise in their spell-casting’. But it’s a feat that requires enormous ‘concentration and mind power’, with the spell-caster having to summon the spell in their mind, rather than out loud. It’s the difference between learning the alphabet, and having to read War and Peace – the students of Hogwarts experience it in their sixth year, when they’re expected to perform only non-verbal spells from then on.

Even harder than that, however, is wandless magic. To perform magic without a wand is beyond most wizards. As much like fire, magic can be raging, chaotic and volatile – that’s why wizards use wands to channel it – and requires the utmost skill and discipline to control. Wandless magic is like riding a bike with no hands. During an earthquake.

Patronus Charm

To cast the Patronus Charm successfully, the wizard casting it must concentrate, with all their might, on the happiest memory they have: it’s fuel for the Patronus, which is a projection of positive energy. They must then draw circles with their wand, and say the incantation ‘Expecto Patronum’. If it works, then there are two forms of Patronus that can be cast. A non-corporeal one, which is just a burst of silver light from the wand; or a fully formed corporeal guardian, taking the shape of the animal that best reflects the caster’s personality.

To cast either is an achievement, although the latter is so difficult as to be considered unusual. This is because very few wizards possess the skill to concentrate on both the spell and their emotions. Even so, Harry Potter was able to master the spell in his own time at Hogwarts – making him one of the youngest wizards to do so – and he even taught it to members of Dumbledore’s Army, way beyond their years.

Occlumency

A spell that Harry certainly did not master during his time at Hogwarts was Occlumency, the obscure and ancient art of closing your mind against Legilimens, those who intrude upon other people’s minds. In terms of difficulty, it is probably on the same level as the Patronus Charm, but both demand very different disciplines, one which Harry excelled at, and one he just couldn’t nail.

Because while the Patronus Charm requires you to embrace emotion, Occlumency requires you to empty yourself of it – to clear your mind. Only then will you be able to prevent a Legilimens from discovering any feeling or thought, because there are no feelings or thoughts to discover.

So Occlumency requires a certain type of mentality to work. This is why Draco Malfoy, who had to use Occlumency to hide his plan to kill Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, excelled where Harry had failed.

In an interview in 2005, J.K. Rowling even confirmed as much: ‘I think Draco would be very gifted in Occlumency,’ she said, ‘unlike Harry. Harry’s problem with it was always that his emotions were too near the surface and that he is in some ways too damaged. But he’s also very in touch with his feelings about what’s happened to him. He’s not repressed, he’s quite honest about facing them, and he couldn’t suppress them, he couldn’t suppress these memories. But I thought of Draco as someone who is very capable of compartmentalising his life and his emotions, and always has done.’

Flight

If Lord Voldemort wasn’t one of the most evil wizards the wizarding world has ever known, then he would surely be remembered as one of its most brilliant. Case in point: he achieved what was long thought to be a magical impossibility, and invented a spell that allows the user to fly. Not levitate, not ride a broom, but fly unaided high among the clouds. How incredible is that? It’s just a shame that his first public display of it was an attempt to kill Harry.

It happened during the chapter ‘The Seven Potters’, when the Order of the Phoenix were trying to move Harry to a safe location, but were attacked on the way.

And then Harry saw him. Voldemort was flying like smoke on the wind, without broomstick or Thestral to hold him, his snake-like face gleaming out of the blackness, his white fingers raising his wand again.

Given that only Voldemort could perform it, there’s no way of knowing for sure how difficult flying is. But given that he was the first wizard in all of history to create such a spell, it’s safe to assume that Madam Hooch has nothing to worry about.

Creating a Horcrux

And so we arrive at creating a Horcrux, one of the – if not the – most difficult and extreme pieces of magic the wizarding world has to offer, for various reasons.

A Horcrux is created when a wizard takes an object and binds a piece of their soul to it. The purpose is immortality, with the logic going that as long as a piece of your soul survives within the object, then you can never truly die. It’s magic so Dark, so heinous, that it was kept a secret from most of the wizarding world. Yet despite many trying, there are only two known wizards to have discovered how to perform it: an Ancient Greek Dark wizard called Herpo the Foul, who created one Horcrux; and Voldemort, who mastered the spell and created seven. Again, as with flight, it’s an example of how Tom Riddle’s exceptional talents were twisted into evil.

The actual process of creating a Horcrux is unknown; according to J.K. Rowling, it involves a spell and a ‘series of things you would have to do’ that are ‘too horrible’ to say out loud. What we do know, however, is how to split a soul – murder. According to Horace Slughorn, murder is, ‘the supreme act of evil. Killing rips the soul apart. The wizard intent upon creating a Horcrux would use the damage to his advantage: he would then encase the torn portion.’

As with the Unforgivable Curses, the difficulty of splitting your soul depends upon what kind of person you are – on how easy you would find it to kill.

But then, beyond splitting your soul, beyond the mysterious process of welding a piece of it on to an object, there’s also the matter of simply existing. For to split your soul means to have less of a soul to live with. By splitting his into seven parts, the remnant of Voldemort’s soul was said to have become unstable – which is part of the reason why it finally broke apart when he tried to murder baby Harry in Godric’s Hollow. What followed next was the toughest part of creating a Horcrux – the physical body being destroyed. You live on, you see, but in a non-corporeal form. Voldemort described it in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: ‘I was ripped from my body, I was less than spirit, less than the meanest ghost… but still, I was alive.’

As Professor Slughorn once said, ‘Death would be preferable.’

Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery: На русском как сделать?

На старте игры вам дадут возможность спроектировать своего героя, выбрать ему уникальный характер. В дальнейшем вы сможете прокачивать основные характеристики и навыки, которые дадут вам преимущество во время прохождения игры.

1 глава

На этом 1 глава будет окончена. Все просто!

2 глава

В зависимости от вашего выбора, вы получите определенное количество атрибутивных баллов. В игре есть три атрибута: Смелость, Эмпатия и Знание. Поднятие любого из них может открыть некоторые дополнительные варианты диалога позже в игре. После некоторого обсуждения вашего брата, у вас есть еще один набор вариантов для ответа. Каждый из вариантов наградит вас некоторыми атрибутивными очками, поэтому выберите тот, который вы найдете наиболее подходящим для вашего главного героя.

The stories of the Hogwarts founders

According to Professor Binns, Godric, Helga, Salazar and Rowena ‘built this castle together, far from prying Muggle eyes’. For the most part, the four worked on creating Hogwarts in harmony, but it wasn’t long before Salazar Slytherin’s troubling views on the wizarding world caused an almighty rift.

But what of the founders’ individual stories?

Godric Gryffindor

‘Bold Gryffindor, from wild moor’ dwelled at Godric’s Hollow, the future home of many well-known Harry Potter characters, from Bathilda Bagshot to the Potters themselves.

Much like the Hogwarts house he founded, Gryffindor, Godric was known for his bravery, and his skills as an accomplished dueller. He even had a special sword created for him by Ragnuk the First, the finest of the goblin silversmiths. The sword was ‘gleaming silver’ with ‘rubies the size of eggs’. The sword was so beautiful that Ragnuk tried to take it back, accusing Godric of stealing it. Thankfully, Godric was not one to be trifled with, and eventually took back what was his from the goblin community. This didn’t stop the goblins creating a ‘fake myth’ of Gryffindor theft, however.

Legend has it that Godric was also the man who gave Hogwarts the Sorting Hat, a sentient piece of headwear that soon became the one to sort the school’s students into houses long after Godric and the other founders were gone. The hat contains the intelligence of all founders, so it can pass on their intuition on each Hogwarts student forever.

Godric will always be known for his accomplished skills in battle, and his fight against Muggle discrimination in the wizarding world. In fact, it was a serious argument between Godric and Salazar that finally made the Slytherin founder leave Hogwarts. Godric was a man, certainly, ahead of his time.

Helga Hufflepuff

Helga, ‘from valley broad’, was the founder of the house which valued those that were ‘just and loyal’. According to the Sorting Hat, Helga vowed to ‘teach the lot’ – and didn’t judge certain students over others, no matter how much talent they had or what families they came from.

At Hogwarts, Hufflepuff was known for her talents in Charms, and used her remarkable skills for preparing food – a speciality of hers – to create splendid feasts that were enjoyed by all. Her talent would bring the whole school together in harmony.

Helga Hufflepuff’s fantastic recipes are still used in the Hogwarts kitchens to this day and her portrait can be found in the Hufflepuff common room, toasting her students with her golden cup. No wonder the Hogwarts feasts are always so triumphant and bountiful.

And as for that golden cup? Well, that very cup would be passed down to Helga’s descendants, eventually falling into the hands of one Hepzibah Smith, a ‘distantly descended’ witch with a penchant for possessing valuable trinkets. Unluckily for her, a young fellow called Tom Riddle was well aware of this, and once he had hold of it, Helga’s trusty cup engraved with a badger would become one of Lord Voldemort’s Horcruxes.

Salazar Slytherin

For many years, all was well among the four founders. Yet when shrewd Salazar Slytherin, ‘from fen’, suggested that only those from magical families deserved to come to Hogwarts, his three friends stood against him.

Salazar Slytherin left the school. Before he did however, he built a secret room inside the castle with a great statue of himself and a monster inside that only he could control.

The chamber would remain a secret, until Salazar Slytherin’s heir came to Hogwarts, ready to finish his ancestor’s work. Slytherin also left behind a golden locket, which would become a treasured family heirloom, and eventually a Horcrux of Lord Voldemort too.

Despite his flaws, Salazar was a talented wizard, skilled in Legilemency and Parseltongue, and his twisted legacy and talents lived on through many members of his bloodline, specifically Lord Voldemort. Thankfully, his hostile nature towards Muggle-borns was something that not many of the wizarding community agreed with. And not all of Salazar’s legacy was bad. A very distant descendant of his, Isolt Sayre, would go on to find Ilvermorny School, and Salazar’s wand would eventually be buried in the school’s grounds, turning into a snakewood tree with leaves with restorative powers.

Rowena Ravenclaw

Rowena Ravenclaw, ‘from glen’, was the most brilliant witch of her time, but her story is one of tragedy. Known for her wit and love of learning, she wore a diadem that was said to grant wisdom to the wearer.

However, Rowena’s own daughter grew jealous of her mother’s incredible intelligence. Helena Ravenclaw stole her mother’s diadem and ran away, a fact that Rowena kept hidden from her fellow founders even when she fell ill.

Desperate to see her daughter one last time, Rowena sent a man to bring Helena home. Unfortunately, that man was the Bloody Baron, who was head over heels with Helena, and stabbed her in a rage when she refused to come home. After Helena was tragically killed, legend tells us that Rowena Ravenclaw died of a broken heart. No wonder Helena’s ghost, that became Ravenclaw’s house ghost, would often roam the corridors in silence.

Exciting publishing programme from J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World

A host of new print and digital publishing has been announced from J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, including a Special Rehearsal Edition of the script book of new stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts One & Two.

Print and digital editions will publish simultaneously after the play’s world premiere this summer, and will comprise of the version of the play script at the time of the play’s preview performances.

Theatre previews allow the creative team the chance to rehearse and explore scenes further before a production’s official opening night. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opens for previews several weeks before its official first performance on Saturday 30 July and the Special Rehearsal Edition of the script book will later be replaced by a Definitive Edition.

Pottermore will bring you further updates on the Definitive Edition as we learn more.

Readers and moviegoers last saw Harry waving off his children at Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts, in the epilogue to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child picks up after that moment and is staged in two parts, due to the ‘epic nature of the story’.

The play opens in London’s West End this summer, based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany. It is officially the eighth story in Harry Potter canon and a new play by Jack Thorne.

Interest in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child from Wizarding World fandom has been massive, and now Potter fans across the globe will be able to join Harry, Ron and Hermione on the next stage of their journey.

Jamie Parker, who originated the role of Scripps in The History Boys, has been cast as Harry. He is joined by Olivier Award-winning actress Noma Dumezweni as Hermione and theatre, film and TV actor Paul Thornley as Ron.

For J.K. Rowling’s devoted readers 2017 is also a momentous year, as it marks the twentieth anniversary of the UK publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Next year will see the publication of four special editions of the first book in the UK, one for each of the four Hogwarts houses. There will also be a brand new edition of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in 2017, with new content by J.K. Rowling, as well as new formats and editions of the Hogwarts Library books – Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Quidditch Through the Ages and The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

Pottermore doesn’t play favourites, but we’re especially looking forward to nabbing a copy of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets illustrated by Jim Kay. That’s coming a little sooner, in October 2016, and we’ll be prodding Jim for a look at his latest work soon because we’re nosy like that.

Created by Wizarding World Digital—the brains behind Pottermore—along with Warner Bros., this app comes packed with fresh features, quizzes, and other content that Potterheads will love to access. There will also be news, polls, and announcements delivered straight to the users to keep them updated on anything about the wizarding world.

Your passport to the Wizarding World

Upon installation, the Wizarding World app will ask you to create your Wizarding Passport. If you already have a Pottermore account, you can use that as your passport. You can take your Hogwarts House, wand, and Patronus on your profile. Your house will be important when you take polls and quizzes as your points will be added to the leaderboard for your House. With this, you can contribute to your House’s bid for the House Cup.

The Wizarding World will let you discover—and even rediscover—your Hogwarts House in the re-imagined Sorting Ceremony. Unlike the website where you answer questions to know your House, you can get to experience the Sorting Ceremony and virtually wear the Sorting Hat. You can also take a picture of you wearing the hat for memorabilia. Aside from quizzes and other content, the Wizarding World app lets you join the official Harry Potter Fan Club and get access to magical interactive features.

To make it more fun for you, the Wizarding World app has hidden secret codes and enchanted keys all over the app for you to discover. You can use these codes and keys to unlock magical mischiefs and unexpected wonders. Once you get a code or a key, you can heads to the Discover section of the app, tap the key symbol to enter the code and uncover the secrets.

The Wizarding World app is the official companion app for Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts. This means that whatever information you get from the app comes straight from its creator. The app is chock full of fun information and articles to fill your Potterhead needs. However, not all Potterheads can experience the wonders of the app. The use of the app is limited to a few countries only. On top of that, you need to meet the required specs to access interactive features, such as the Sorting Ceremony. Moreover, while it is a free app, there are some features that are only accessible once you pay the subscription fee.

Opening at the newly refurbished CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre in Toronto, this is the sixth production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child to open worldwide. With an all-Canadian cast critics have described the play as ‘jaw-dropping’, ‘dazzling’, ‘heart-felt’, ‘mind-boggling’ and ‘like nothing you have ever seen before’.

The theatre had a full make-over for the show, owner and co-producer David Mirvish said: “I love the intimacy of it. No matter where you’re sitting watching this show, you’re going to be a part of it. You have nothing to hold you back, you feel drawn in. So the designing of creating a theatre inside a theatre was really brilliantly done, and all those people who thought that out really deserve a lot of credit.”

Producer Colin Callender went on to say: “It is the most beautiful theatre. It looks gorgeous and all the work that’s been done in preparation for the show has simply turned it into a magnificent theatre. It always was a magnificent theatre, but now it’s just glorious.”

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child continues to invite fans to return to the magic. With all seven productions now open, in six countries, on four continents, from Saturday, 25 June 2022, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will have actors performing live on stage somewhere around the globe continuously over a 24-hour period. That’s 288 cast members making 310 spells happen live on stage all in one day.

Harry has a new look! The global digital publisher of the Wizarding World, Pottermore Publishing, has brought its cover art bang up to date with a dynamic new suite of designs for the Harry Potter eBooks and audiobooks.

Bringing both iconic and lesser-known scenes from these beloved stories alive in thrilling detail for fans and new readers alike, the new cover art invites the next generation of readers and listeners to jump into the action and discover the Harry Potter books on their phones, tablets, e-readers and other devices.

The new covers, as created by design team Studio La Plage, bring to vivid colour scenes from the books, some never before depicted, such as Harry’s Great Lake task in Goblet of Fire, as well as giving new perspectives on iconic moments such as Harry’s first Quidditch match.

Jack Bedford, Associate Creative Director of Studio La Plage, said: ‘We wanted to retain the essence of what readers know and love most about the Wizarding World. The new covers celebrate the moment before the action, asking the question ‘what happens next’? We can’t wait to share them.’

The seven cover designs will be adopted in all territories across the digital Harry Potter eBooks and audiobooks from 31 st May 2022. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in Melbourne has sold over 1 million tickets!

The show has broken the record for the most tickets sold of any stage play in Australia despite being closed for months due to Covid-19 restrictions. Over half the attendees were first time theatre goers, demonstrating how the show has brought the magic of the wizarding world to a whole new audience.

This wonderful milestone is ahead of the opening of the reimagined one-part production scheduled for later this month.

Last night the cast and filmmakers came together for the world premiere of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore at the Royal Festival Hall in London. They were joined, on the red carpet, by a number of fans and influencers from around the world to celebrate the release of the third Fantastic Beasts film.

The cover design for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore – The Complete Screenplay, written by J.K. Rowling and Steve Kloves, has been revealed.

On the 19 July, the perfect accompaniment to the third Fantastic Beasts film is set to be published globally. The English language publishers are Little, Brown (U.K.), Scholastic (U.S. and Canada), and Pottermore Publishing (eBook).

The cover features the magnificent Hogwarts castle, framed by the setting sun and gliding over the lake is a majestic and fiery phoenix, signifying Dumbledore himself.

In the official screenplay, readers can explore every scene of the complete original script, and go beyond it with special features including behind-the-scenes content and commentary. Fans can read about director David Yates’ vision for the film in his foreword, and illuminating insights from producer David Heyman and key cast members including Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law.

The book is also enhanced with behind-the-scenes content from the multi-award-winning production design team, including costume designer Colleen Atwood, graphic design studio MinaLima and others.

Stephen Fry, who famously narrated the UK Harry Potter audiobooks, will embark on a fantastical journey across the world in this upcoming BBC One special, entitled Fantastic Beasts: A Natural History.

In a unique collaboration with the BBC Natural History Unit, the Natural History Museum (which has now finished its exhibition, Fantastic Beasts: The Wonder of Nature) and Warner Bros., this documentary will unfurl all sorts of mysteries around fantastic beasts and real-life creatures across history that you may not believe could possibly exist.

Along the way, Stephen will chat to J.K. Rowling, to discuss the inspirations behind the creatures we meet in Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts, while also meeting with visual effects supervisor Christian Manz, who has lent his talents to several Wizarding World movies, bringing countless magical creations to life.

Fantastic Beasts: A Natural History, will feature on BBC One, iPlayer and international broadcasters very soon.

The film is released on 8 th April 2022 in the UK, shortly followed by the U.S. on the 15 th April 2022 and is directed by David Yates.

Following the successful re-openings of Melbourne and London, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has returned triumphant to the Lyric theatre New York in its new reimagined format, while in Hamburg, Harry Potter und das verwunschene Kind celebrated its German-language two-part premiere last Sunday.

The Broadway production, which has been boldly reimagined for its big comeback, opened to great critical acclaim, with the New York Times proclaiming it ‘Streamlined and still magical…this new version remains ravishingly entertaining’ and Broadway News calling it ‘A theatrical accomplishment of a very rare order.’ Theatremania wrote of the newly-staged, singular performance: ‘The show delivers spectacularly. Jamie Harrison’s illusions regularly receive showstopping applause, the kind which might make the actors jealous were it not for the fact that their performances are integral to making the magic seem real. If you suspend your disbelief just a little bit (it’s not hard considering the level of artistry at work) you’ll feel like a kid again, witnessing incredible wonders onstage.’

Potter fans also welcomed the one-part version, with Leaky Cauldron declaring: ‘the joy and inspiration hold true.…the Cursed Child team (cast, creative, and crew) has completely given their hearts to re-mounting something still bewitching to behold. The magic feels as fresh as it did on its original opening day, April 22, 2018, and the play itself commands both stunned awe and breathless reverence from an audience of 1500+ theatergoers.’

Meanwhile in Germany, the long-awaited opening of the original version at the newly refurbished Mehr! Theatre am Großmarkt in Hamburg – the first non-English language production of the eighth story in the world – received an equally rapturous reception. Broadway World declared:‘HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD is a modern theatrical masterpiece. The art of making theatre reinvented. It gives you shivers down your spine, laughter, and also some tears.’

The two-part original will also be reimagined as a singular performance for theatres in San Francisco, Toronto and Tokyo in 2022, with Melbourne adopting this version in May 2022.

After 49 weeks of closure, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has reopened its doors at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre. The show had been suspended due to COVID-19 restrictions, but now with new safety measures in place it’s time to turn the theatre lights back on and let the magic begin again.

To celebrate the first production returning, the Melbourne company arranged a special surprise for the audience… Each audience member was gifted a wand as they arrived at their seats. As the curtain call completed, the cast invited the audience members, to join them in raising their wands up in the air to mark the show’s return.

Teachers can continue to post videos of themselves reading aloud from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books, as well as her original fairy tale The Ickabog, to their students currently prevented from attending school again following the latest lockdown restrictions across the United Kingdom. This follows J.K. Rowling and her agents The Blair Partnership relaxing the usual copyright permissions required.

Teachers anywhere in the world who are having to teach remotely are permitted to post videos of themselves reading from Harry Potter books 1-7 and The Ickabog onto schools’ secure networks or closed educational platforms from today until 31 st March 2021, at which point it will be reviewed. The Hogwarts Library book Quidditch Through The Ages, written by J.K. Rowling as esteemed fictional Quidditch expert Kennilworthy Whisp, has been reimagined by award-winning illustrator Emily Gravett. This colourful new edition is published today in Hardback and Deluxe editions by Bloomsbury in the UK and Scholastic in the US.

The book, arguably the most famous sports guide in the wizarding world, contains all you need to know about the history, the teams, the rules – and the breaking of the rules – of the noble sport of Quidditch.

The 30from30 award is a one-off prize honouring the best and most influential book from the past 30 years, and is chosen from past winners of the Awards

The Nibbie was awarded at a virtual event on Monday 29 th June. In her acceptance video, J.K. Rowling said, ‘It’s particularly meaningful because the first award Harry ever won was a Nibbie.’ She added, ‘Since childhood, books have been my greatest refuge, and nothing makes me prouder than to think that my books have been that for other people. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.’

The Bookseller, the book trade magazine and organiser of the Awards commented; ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was the book that lived. It changed everything for everyone, and is the rightful winner of this one-off award.’

Well-known faces from the Wizarding World and beyond have lent their voices and passion for the stories they love by filming themselves reading from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (Sorcerer’s Stone in the US) for families to enjoy while they are confined at home.

Daniel Radcliffe, Stephen Fry, David Beckham, Dakota Fanning, Claudia Kim, Noma Dumezweni, and Eddie Redmayne are amongst the cast of narrators, with more surprises and special appearances to come. Each will be reading different sections of the book, with its themes of family, friendship, courage and overcoming adversity, to families around the world.

First-up is Daniel Radcliffe, a face instantly synonymous with Harry Potter, reading Chapter One, ‘The Boy Who Lived’.

J.K. Rowling and her Wizarding World partners have launched Harry Potter At Home today to help children, parents, carers and teachers confined at home during the Covid-19 outbreak.

WizardingWorld.com is hosting Harry Potter At Home, a hub of information and activities for parents, children and carers to discover the magic of Harry Potter, by reading or listening on their own or together with loved ones, whilst staying at home. Explore the hub for a wealth of creative and craft activities, quizzes, puzzles and more. There will also be a weekly email newsletter bringing fresh ideas into inboxes each Friday.

In addition, partnerships with Audible and library book supplier OverDrive are bringing Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone free to homes during April. The audiobook can be streamed for free via the Audible Stories platform, whilst the eBook and audiobook can be borrowed in over 20 different languages worldwide via the OverDrive library services.

Stars from the Wizarding World including Jude Law, Warwick Davis, Noma Dumezweni, Jason Isaacs, Evanna Lynch, Sally Mortemore and Bonnie Wright have joined forces to record individual stories from J.K. Rowling’s Hogwarts Library book The Tales of Beedle the Bard: the first time the book has been brought to life in audio, which is also supporting J.K. Rowling’s international children’s charity Lumos.

The Tales of Beedle the Bard was first referenced in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows as the fictional fairy tales all wizarding children grew up with. Within this collection of fables was the origin story of the Deathly Hallows, ‘The Tale of the Three Brothers’, which taught Harry about the three most powerful objects in the wizarding world.

These funny and captivating tales are accompanied by explanatory notes from Professor Albus Dumbledore (narrated by Jude Law). His illuminating thoughts reveal the stories to be much more than simple moral tales

The Tales of Beedle the Bard was originally handwritten and illustrated by J.K. Rowling as a limited edition of only seven copies, one of which was sold at auction in 2007 in aid of charity. Published the following year, the book has helped raised money for her international children’s charity Lumos ever since.

Teachers can now post videos of themselves reading aloud from the Harry Potter books to children prevented from attending school because of the Covid-19 virus. This follows J.K. Rowling and her agents The Blair Partnership relaxing the usual copyright permissions required.

Teachers anywhere in the world are permitted to post videos of themselves reading from Harry Potter books 1-7 onto schools’ secure networks or closed educational platforms from today until the end of the school year (or the end of July in southern hemisphere). The open licence for teachers is the first of several initiatives being planned to help bring Harry Potter to children at home, which will be announced shortly – watch this space for more details!

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child official opened at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco yesterday, bringing the eighth story to Harry Potter fans on the West Coast.

The cast and crew from Cursed Child were joined by producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callendar, who were thrilled to be there and very excited about the show opening in the city. “To actually be working here and have a show in this absolutely amazing place is, for me, one of the highlights of my life,” said Friedman.

J.K. Rowling, who couldn’t attend the opening delivered a special letter to the San Francisco production which said, “I couldn’t be prouder that the play’s now opening in one of my favourite cities!”

San Francisco is now the fourth production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child to open, with Hamburg and Toronto set to open in 2020. Hamburg will be the first non-English language production.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire has been brought to life by award-winning illustrator Jim Kay. This is the fourth book in the Harry Potter series to be illustrated by him and has been published today by Bloomsbury in the UK and Scholastic in the US.

The fiery cover shows Kay’s stunning reimagining of the first task in the Triwizard Tournament when Harry goes head to head with a Hungarian Horntail.

Last night Harry Potter and the Cursed Child unveiled its new creative approach with a bold Times Square billboard takeover. Passers-by and assembled fans watched in wonder as every screen in Times Square lit up in the show’s colours before being engulfed in darkness, Dementors and an ominous Dark Mark…

In the new posters and front-of-theatre artwork, an adult Harry ‘casts’ a magnificent lightning bolt, but within the spell’s glow is the looming threat of a Dark Mark. The prophetic new tagline – ‘Sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places’ – was written by J.K. Rowling for the original play description and lends further intrigue to the image.

The new design celebrates Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’s place as the eighth story in the canon by incorporating J.K. Rowling’s name and the iconic lightning-bolt logo. This logo was originally designed by legendary Harry Potter illustrator Mary GrandPré over 23 years ago, and has continued to be used across books, films and many official Harry Potter projects all over the world since.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child officially opened at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre with a red carpet gala on Saturday 23 rd February. The cast, director John Tiffany, writer Jack Thorne, and producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender were all on the red carpet to welcome Australian fans to the show.

J.K. Rowling couldn’t attend, but sent the production a note saying: ‘Thank you to the cast and creative team who’ve done such a magnificent job. If I could apparate I’d be there. My heart’s in Oz tonight!’

The multi-award-winning theatrical event is exclusive to Melbourne in Australia and is currently booking at the newly renovated Princess Theatre until December 2019.

This is the third continent that the eighth story is opening to, as it continues to entertain and delight audiences in London and New York. The show received its world premiere in July 2016 at the Palace Theatre in London’s West End, and opened at the Lyric Theatre on Broadway in April 2018. It will open in San Francisco in 2019 and in Hamburg 2020, which will be the first non-English language production of the Cursed Child.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, the second film in the five-film series, officially opened in cinemas today, after its magical, global premiere in Paris on Thursday, 8 th November.

The film features an ensemble cast that includes Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Zoë Kravitz, Callum Turner, Claudia Kim, William Nadylam, Kevin Guthrie, Jude Law, and Johnny Depp.

Set in 1927, a few months after Newt Scamander helped to unveil and capture the infamous Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, and moving from New York to London and on to Paris, this story of mystery and magic reveals an extraordinary new chapter in the wizarding world. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family.

The original screenplay of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald also publishes today in line with the release of the film.

The producers of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child have announced two further locations for the award-winning show.

From the West End to the West Coast, the next US production of Cursed Child will begin in Autumn 2019 at the Curran in San Francisco, California. Built in 1922, the Curran has housed some of the biggest productions in theatre history and is one of the leading live entertainment venues in North America.

Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender said, “The beautiful and historic Curran in San Francisco is the perfect theatre for the next North American company of Cursed Child. We are delighted that ATG and Carole Shorenstein Hays have worked their magic to provide the ideal West Coast home for the production.”

And what’s more, today saw the announcement of the first non-English version of the play, with the Mehr! Theater am Großmarkt in Hamburg set to host its German premiere from the spring of 2020. In preparation for this, the venue will undergo an extensive redesign starting in May 2019.

Friedman and Callender added, “We know Harry Potter has millions of German speaking fans and so we’re very proud that we are able to bring our beautiful production to Germany. The Mehr! Theater am Großmarkt in Hamburg is a unique space, and we’re delighted and grateful to have the opportunity to design and create a perfect, bespoke new home for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in Germany.”

Wizarding World fans in Australia have lots to look forward to, as the producers of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child have announced that tickets for the upcoming Melbourne production will go on sale at on 6 th August. Fans who sign up to the mailing list by 29 th July will receive priority booking access before tickets go on general sale the following week. It was also confirmed today that preview performances at the Princess Theatre will begin on Wednesday January 16 th 2019.

With all this news, producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender said “We’re so thrilled that Melbourne is Cursed Child’s next home and can’t wait to move into the gorgeous Princess Theatre soon. The Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has received an extraordinary 6 accolades at this year’s Tony Awards, including the award for Best Play.

Director John Tiffany collected the Tony for Best Direction of a Play, and further honours went to Best Scenic Design (Christine Jones), Best Costume Design (Katrina Lindsay), Best Lighting (Neil Austin) and Best Sound Design (Gareth Fry).

Since opening in April this year, Cursed Child became the most nominated Broadway play this season, and is now the most awarded show, having been honoured with, among others, six wins at the Outer Critics Circle Awards including Outstanding New Broadway Play, and 5 Drama Desk Awards.

Following the exhibition’s sellout run at The British Library in London, tickets go on sale today for Harry Potter: A History of Magic at the New-York Historical Society, which will host the exhibition from October 5 this year until January 27, 2019.

Capturing the traditions of folklore and magic at the heart of the Harry Potter stories, the exhibition features centuries-old treasures, including rare books, manuscripts, and magical objects from the collections of The British Library, the New-York Historical Society, and other museums, as well as original material from US publisher Scholastic and J.K. Rowling’s own archives.

Excitingly, the New York exhibition will display many new artefacts for the first time, and beginning today, tickets for trivia programs and a series of family events associated with the exhibition will also be available.

September 2018 marks the 20th anniversary of the US publication of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and publishers Scholastic kicked off their year-long celebration at the beginning of this year.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. With exactly one year to go until the next Fantastic Beasts film is released in cinemas, Warner Bros. has revealed the film’s title: Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, alongside a sumptuous ensemble photo of key cast members. Newt Scamander’s Hogwarts Library classic Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has been brought to life with stunning illustrations by award winning artist Olivia Lomenech Gill. The colourful new edition is now published by Bloomsbury in the UK and Scholastic in the US

Harry Potter: A History of Magic opens today at the British Library in London. Based on the school subjects studied by Hogwarts students, the exhibition combines centuries-old British Library treasures, including some of the oldest items in the Library’s collection, with original material from publisher Bloomsbury and J.K. Rowling’s own archives, going on display for the first time.

From today, visitors to the exhibition will have the chance to take in items such as the Ripley Scroll – a alchemical manuscript that describes in 6 metres of detail how to make the Philosopher’s Stone, from the 1500s, as well the tombstone of the real Nicolas Flamel, among many more.

Julian Harrison, the exhibition’s lead curator, said:

“We’re thrilled to welcome visitors and Harry Potter fans alike to Harry Potter: A History of Magic. We’ve loved discovering the magical traditions that lie behind the Harry Potter books, and we’ve encountered so many amazing artefacts along the way.

“The exhibition takes visitors on a fascinating journey through the history of magic – from mermaids to crystal balls, from broomsticks to garden gnomes! It’s been enormous fun choosing the exhibits.”

Today also sees a regional roll-out of a panel based version of the exhibition at 20 public libraries around the country, shining a light on each one’s local connections to magic and folklore, so people around the country can experience the exhibition too.

The British Library announced yesterday that its Harry Potter: A History of Magic exhibition will be travelling to a new home at the New-York Historical Society, where it will open in October 2018.

Harry Potter: A History of Magic will unveil rare books, manuscripts and magical objects from the British Library’s collection, capturing the traditions of folklore and magic at the heart of the Harry Potter stories. Exploring the subjects studied at Hogwarts, the exhibition will include original drafts and drawings by J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter illustrator Jim Kay – all on display for the first time.

And as it travels from London to New York, the exhibition will evolve to include US-specific artefacts and items from the collection of US Harry Potter publisher Scholastic.

Pottermore revealed on 5 th September that the 2015 illustrated print edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, featuring magnificent illustrations by award-winning artist Jim Kay, is now available as a Kindle in Motion eBook. Featuring never-before-seen animations, this is the first time that Jim Kay’s Harry Potter illustrations are available in a digital format.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will have its Broadway premiere in the Spring of 2018 at the redesigned Lyric Theatre in New York. And we now know that seven actors from the award-winning original West End company will be reprising their roles from the London stage.

Jamie Parker will bring his Harry Potter to Broadway, while Noma Dumezweni returns as Hermione Granger and Paul Thornley reprises the role of Ron Weasley. Poppy Miller (Ginny Potter), Sam Clemmett (Albus Potter), Alex Price (Draco Malfoy) and Anthony Boyle (Scorpius Malfoy) will join them in New York to bring their characters to a new audience. The production also announced today 28 new actors joining the cast.

Harry Potter UK publisher, Bloomsbury and the British Library are creating two magic-filled books to accompany this autumn’s exhibition Harry Potter: A History of Magic at the library in London, in celebration of the 20 th anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Both books will publish in the UK on 20 th October 2017- the day that the exhibition opens its doors to visitors in London.

Harry Potter: A History of Magic will be the official book of the British Library’s exhibition.

A collaboration between Bloomsbury and the brilliant curators of the British Library, the book promises to take readers on a fascinating journey through the subjects studied at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry – from Alchemy and Potions classes through to Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures.

Each chapter showcases a treasure trove of artefacts from the British Library and other collections around the world, beside exclusive manuscripts, sketches and illustrations from the Harry Potter archive. There’s also a specially commissioned essay for each subject area by an expert, writer or cultural commentator, inspired by the contents of the exhibition including Steve Backshall, the Reverend Richard Coles, Owen Davies, Julia Eccleshare, Roger Highfield, Steve Kloves, Lucy Mangan, Anna Pavord and Tim Peake, who offer a personal perspective on their magical theme.

Readers will be able to pore over ancient spell books, amazing illuminated scrolls that reveal the secret of the Elixir of Life, vials of dragon’s blood, mandrake roots, painted centaurs and a genuine witch’s broomstick, in a book that shows J.K. Rowling’s magical inventions alongside their cultural and historical forebears.

Publishers Bloomsbury and Scholastic on Monday revealed two striking covers for the fully-illustrated edition of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which hits bookshops later this year.

Principal photography starts today on an all new adventure set in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, the second in a five-film series that began with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The as-yet-untitled film opens in 1927, a few months after Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander helped to unveil and capture Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. J.K. Rowling has written the screenplay and David Yates returns to direct.

Nods to the Harry Potter stories are promised, and the film is set to take fans to new corners of the wizarding world, it was revealed today, moving from New York to London and on to Paris.

The new adventure is being filmed at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, which has been the cinematic home of the Wizarding World since the first Harry Potter film.

20 years after it was first published in the UK in 1997, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is to be translated into its 80 th language – Scots!

Publisher Itchy Coo today announced that you will soon be able to read the Scots version of the first Harry Potter book, which will be published under the title Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stane in October 2017

Matthew Fitt is the translator of this exciting new edition of the story. Here’s a first look at the Scots translation:

‘Mr and Mrs Dursley, o nummer fower, Privet Loan, were prood tae say that they were gey normal, thank ye awfie muckle. They were the lest fowk ye wid jalouse wid be taigled up wi onythin unco or ferlie, because they jist widnae hae onythin tae dae wi joukery packery like yon.’

The new West End cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child have been transformed into their characters in a newly released set of portraits by Charlie Gray.

Seen in their wizarding world finest for the first time are Jamie Glover as Harry Potter, Emma Lowndes as Ginny Potter and Theo Ancient as their youngest son Albus; Thomas Aldridge as Ron Weasley, Rakie Ayola as Hermione Granger and Helen Aluko as their daughter Rose Granger-Weasley; and James Howard as Draco Malfoy and Samuel Blenkin as his son Scorpius Malfoy.

The new cast’s first performance at London’s Palace Theatre is on Wednesday 24 th May.

A new edition of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is available today, with six extra beasts and a new foreword from the pen of Magizoologist Newt Scamander, bringing the original classic book up to date with the exciting developments in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World.

Eddie Redmayne – Newt Scamander himself – has narrated Pottermore’s new audiobook version of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the Hogwarts textbook that inspired the film of the same name.

Like the print and eBook editions, also available on the 14 th March, the digital audiobook will open with J.K. Rowling’s new foreword from Newt Scamander himself, hinting at some of what happened since his visit to New York City in 1926, and also promises six new beasts.

Marking our introduction to a new era of J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, the film has been a hit across the world, with the biggest openings ever recorded for the Wizarding World franchise in China and South Korea. In October, J.K. Rowling revealed at a special fan screening in London that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is to be the first of five movies in a brand new, fantastical franchise of its own, following a story arc she has already plotted out. She said at the event on 13th October 2016: ‘I’ve now done the plotting properly so we’re pretty sure it’s going to be five movies.’

A new and original story by J.K. Rowling, Fantastic Beasts was inspired by the Hogwarts textbook of the same name, written by the author’s character Newt Scamander, the wizarding world’s preeminent Magizoologist.

The film opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander, played by Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne, has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj named Jacob, a misplaced magical briefcase, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

Further details of the exhibition at the British Library in 2017, to celebrate twenty years since the first publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, have been announced.

We’re delighted to confirm that the exhibition will be entitled Harry Potter: A History of Magic and will combine original material from the private archives of J.K. Rowling and Bloomsbury with centuries-old treasures from the British Library’s world-class collection, focusing on the theme of the History of Magic.

The structure of the exhibition has been inspired by the subjects Harry and his friends study at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, from Potions and Herbology to Astronomy and Care of Magical Creatures.

The exhibition will run from 20th October 2017 to 28th February 2018, at the British Library in London just a (Philosopher’s) stone’s throw from Platform 9 ¾ at King’s Cross Station!

J.K. Rowling, author, screenwriter and founder of international children’s organisation, Lumos, and Academy Award winning actor, Eddie Redmayne (a.k.a. Newt Scamander), opened a special advance screening of Warner Bros. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them on Saturday 12th November on the Perelman Stage in Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium.

In front of nearly 3,000 guests, they discussed the work of Lumos in helping children around the world leave orphanages and institutions and return to family life.

“We know children who are raised in institutions suffer developmental delays, that they tend to be physically stunted, they normally have psychological trauma,’ said J.K. Rowling. ‘It is just not what nature intended for children – to be herded together and not given individual love and care. This is an entirely solvable issue. Lumos’ ambition – and we believe it’s achievable – is that by 2050, we will have ended institutionalisation globally.”

Jo went on to encourage people – and particularly young people – in the audience to get involved with the non-profit organisation’s work. She spoke of the urgent need to change minds, to do a little research, and support families to stay together.

Eddie and Jo went on to talk about the new film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. They were joined on stage by director David Yates and cast members Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler, Katherine Waterston and Alison Sudol, before introducing this special charity screening of the film.

This event was part of We Are Lumos Worldwide, a global campaign to raise awareness of Lumos’ greatest goal: to bring to light the eight million children hidden away in orphanages around the world, and help them back into family homes. All proceeds, from both box office ticket sales and an online sweepstake, are going directly to support Lumos in its work.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them went on general release six days later, on November 18th, in cinemas around the world.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the stage play based on an original story by J.K.Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, has won the Best Play at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards, whilst the production was nominated for eleven What’sOnStage theatre awards – more than any other production.

The Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Play was collected on 14th November 2016 by John Tiffany and Jack Thorne, who told Pottermore:

“This play was made with blood, sweat and love. Working on this show has been the greatest of things – and I know John, Jo and I could not have asked for better people to work with. The Cursed Child world is one of technical genius, acting greatness and producing prowess. This [award] is a cherry on top of a really elaborate, sugary, spicy, wonderful cake.”

Lead actress Noma Dumezweni collected the award with John and Jack on behalf of J.K. Rowling, reading out a short message from Jo: “I am incredibly proud of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, but Jack Thorne and John Tiffany must take all credit for shaping and crafting it. My endless thanks to them.”

The production has also received no fewer than eleven nominations ahead of next year’s WhatsOnStage Awards. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts One and Two is up for Best Play, while five of its cast members have also been shortlisted. Other category nominations include Best Direction, Best Costumes, and Best Set Design. The annual awards, which are voted for by the public, will be announced on 19th February 2017.

On Tuesday 21st May 2013 an annotated first edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, containing J.K. Rowling’s personal annotations and illustrations, raised £150,000 for English PEN and for Lumos, J.K. Rowling’s own charity, when it was sold to an anonymous bidder at a Sotheby’s auction.

Other annotated first editions that were sold as part of English Pen’s First Editions Second Thoughts included Roald Dahl’s Matilda, annotated by Quentin Blake, We Need to Talk About Kevin, annotated by Lionel Shriver and Michael Morpurgo’s War Horse.
