Сон, мне карателя очень часто снится сон, где озвучка у меня простая смотреть школьная жизнь, где аниме все приветливы друг онлайн с другом, где, 2 сезон как мне кажется, 1 сезон у меня есть смотреть онлайн лучшая подруга. Но все сезоны сон есть сон, все серии хотя иногда мне Shokei Shoujo no Virgin Road хочется надеяться, что Жизнь девушки-карателя когда-нибудь мы встретимся.

Однажды в прекрасном мире появились проблемы. Произошло нашествие попаданцев на планету. Пришельцам захотелось, чтобы мира совершенно не существовало. Этих инопланетян восприняли негативно. Когда удавалось принести немного пользы отдельным пришельцам, тогда их начали уважать. Среди них были ремесленники, торговцы, правители. Но, многие попаданцы не могли ничего делать. Не стоит удивляться тому, что для сохранения мира и стабильности, церкви хотелось, чтобы пришельцы удалились. Чтобы это осуществить, назначали специальных людей. Это были все каратели.
Иногда можно было встретить таких попаданцев, с которыми невозможно оказалось справиться. Они обладали очень большой силой. Потому необходимо было их подготовить. Церковные служители старались сделать так, чтобы пришельцы им доверяли. После этого бдительность пропадала. Затем его могли пригласить в здание храма. Тут ему давалась возможность заниматься развитием навыков. Если навыки оказывались опасными, их никто не развивал. Церковь всегда имела сторонников и противников. Вероятно, попаданцы могли помочь осуществить благие цели. Нелегко вести контроль над людьми, которые имеют большую силу.

В другом мире японские мальчики и девочки будут призваны стать героями.
Встречаем нового попаданца Мицуки.Паренька призвали в другой мир, и теперь он наконец-то откусит от иссекайного пирога, урвет свои геройский кусок.Но оказалось, что его магические способности пришлись не ко двору.Королевская знать заказывала паренька с пепперони, а привезли с сыром.В общем новоявленного героя выкинули с черного входа, и он уже хотел приуныть, но тут на помощь подоспела милейшая девушка Мэна, которая помогает попаданцам освоиться с новым миром:)Какой герой без симпатичной подруги!Мэна обстоятельно начала знакомить его с местным бытом, и вот уже просит показать его способность в уединенном месте.Мицуки помялся, но расчехлил.Как оказалось способность у него заводится, можно покорять этот мир геройским стержнем. «Мэна смотри!У меня х. Да я в душе не табу, что это было вообще?А ведь тут еще есть кристально чистая контрацепция, и частое репрессирование.Тонны волшебного кэфира, который можно смешивать и передавать, ведь так вкуснее.Есть тут и фаллусты, с высокопоставленными и первоначальными членами.Тут извращенные призывы, а первородные грехи снимают фильмы, и люди растекаются как слизни.И тут даже девочка вылезла из девочки, в стиле чужого!Карл она вылезла из девчушки!А потом открутила себе голову. Ааааааа. Еще с руки рукой кормила крысок, и вообще она из щели появилась. туманной)И астральный архив следит за всем этим.
Горожане поняли, что ведьма настоящая после фразы палача: «Ладно, переходим к плану «Б»!»
Сюжет.
Все японские школьнички которые попадают в этот мир, заочно присаживаются на короткий срок годности. Попаданцы «заблудшие люди» считаются бедствиям для потустороннего мира, из-за их ужасающей силы. (Да они и для реальности бедствие, посмотрите список тайтлов любого сезона)Чем дольше иномириц юзает свою способность, тем быстрее у него едет крыша, портится душа, а память лишается мегабайтов, что приводит к полному армагидетцу.Чтобы обеспечить безопасность, и миру мир, Мэне — главной героини истории — поручено проверить и казнить их всех.Собственно мы сразу скажем»А может не хрен заказывать астралом всякую забугорную муть».Не все так просто)
Тут существуют фракции.. эрудиция, бесстрашие, хотя дивергент побери нет.Простолюдины для налогов, царские дворяне для богатства, и религиозные чудики Фауст для власти.Естественно дворянам не улыбается отдавать бразды правления в руки фаустистов, и они на рандом призывают тайком иномерян, ведь их мощь можно использовать для борьбы за власть.Вот так несчастные попаданцы оказываются втянуты в чужие тёрки.Живенький мир, с интересной эфирной системой, со своими правилами и обычаями.Все работает и функционирует, и понятно что иномирцы, какими они добрыми не казались, представляют угрозу.Ведь в итоге сойдут с ума и станут нести лишь разрушения.А кто восстанавливать будет?
Боевой стиль это совмещение магических заклинаний, в паре с искусной работой ножом в стиле маньяка из Крика.Да, гримуар хоть и увесистый, но в бою не стоит забывать ловко орудовать лезвием.Изюминка в виде подвязки-кобуры для ножа, притягивает взоры к бедру. Аппетиты дворян растут, и работы хоть отбавляй.Но неожиданно у Мены происходит осечка, и нет, ее лезвие стоит и заточено на работу.Просто очередная жертва, она же Акари, не хочет гибнуть, ведь обладает чистой концепцией мотать время вспять.Эфир подери, что за читы? Теперь Мэне придется подумать как привести приговор в исполнение, для этого она отправляется в путь, а Акари более чем счастлива присоединиться к ней.
А она что дурочка?Почему счастлива?Дело в том, что у нее дружеский интерес с оттенком юри.Она буквально виснет на жрице, виляет хвостом, и трется об нее как нэкотян под валерьянкой.И по началу воспринимается как реально неадекватная особа, которая почему-то хочет нашу героиню, а почему хз.Однако дальше Акари раскрывает свои карты, а там очко?Нет там симпатичный туз, который проливает эфир на происходящее.В общем их совместное путешествие как им запомнится, так и вспомнится.
Враги тянут на врагов.Верховная Оруэлл, и Манон Лебэль движими вполне человеческими причинами, и их можно понять.Мотивация толкающая их к злодействам не высосана из пальца, и вполне ясна.Ну и если про пальцы, не стоит забывать мизинец из туманной щели. Пандемониум, хорошо отыграла игривое безумие.Боевка для бюджета вполне качественная, и смотрится бодро.Заклинания выглядят симпатично, хоть я бы камеру лучше бы ставил, а то иногда смотришь из неудобного места.
В итоге.
«Жизнь девушки-карателя на вирджен роад» я представлял себе более карательной, и менее вирджен, но кого это е.волнует)
Безусловно анти-исекайной начало, которое становится кончалом для попаданцев привлекает внимание.Да почти каждый второй тайтл пытается приманить красным шариком в первых эпизодах, тут действительно удалось.Налет пуританского юри на женской дружбе тоже в тему.У каждого персонажа есть свои обстоятельства, проблемы в прошлом, которые подталкивают их возможности, ради достижения целей.Конечно у каждой свои сдвиг по фазе, но это не делает их менее интересными.Смотрится все динамично, эфирный мир интересное место, а совместное путешествие постепенно набирает обороты по ходу сюжета.Интригует не напрягая, а если удивляет, то в приятном смысле.Вполне годится для просмотра, и нужно продолжение:)

Эх, мне могло бы очень понравиться.
В общем 5/10 будет объективно лучшим, что может получить такая история.

Introduction
The Lost Ones are wanderers who come here from a distant world known as «Japan.» No one knows how or why they leave their homes. The only thing that is certain is that they bring disaster and calamity. The duty of exterminating them without remorse falls to Menou, a young Executioner. When she meets Akari, it seems like just another job. until she discovers it’s impossible to kill this girl! And when Menou begins to search for a way to defeat this immortality, Akari is more than happy to tag along! So begins a journey that will change Menou forever.

There is a world much like our own in which many humans have great magical potential. However, there also exists those that have a far greater potential than the average person, known as «Lost Ones» or «Otherworlders.» They are people who come from a world known as «Japan» that have been summoned into this world through a ritual. They are known for possessing such great magical potential that they have been seen as causes of great calamities. As a result, the Church has deemed it a Necessary Evil to execute them before they can become a threat.
Menou is one of these executioners. After executing one Otherworld, she learns of the existence of another «Lost One» named Akari who was summoned at the same time. When she attempts to fulfill her duties, she learns firsthand that Akari’s abilities make it impossible for Menou to kill her without help. After tricking Akari into believing she is her ally, they go off on a journey while Menou attempts to eliminate Akari permanently. However, will her feelings regarding this «duty» remain the same, or will they begin to waver over time?
The Executioner and Her Way of Life (Shokei Shōjo no Virgin Road in Japanese, literally The Executioner Girl’s Virgin Road) is an ongoing Isekai yuri Light Novel series written by Mato Sato and illustrated by Nilitsu, which began publication under the GA Bunko imprint in 2019. As of April 2022, seven volumes have been released in Japan. It is licensed by Yen Press, who began releasing the series in the West in March 2021. It has an ongoing manga adaptation that began monthly serialization in Young Gangan in June 2020, which was also licensed by Yen Press. It was announced during January 2021 that it would receive an anime adaptation that began airing on April 1st, 2022 and finished its run on June 17th, 2022 with a total of twelve episodes. A dub released on HiDive on May 20, 2022.

A Person from Japan who was summoned by the Ancient Civilization a thousand years ago and contributed to its collapse before being imprisoned. Their Pure Concept, «Vessel», lets people increase their power by killing enemies and gaining experience, RPG style, but erodes their sense of self until they become mere extensions of Vessel.
The secret fifth Major Human Error, whose existence was covered up by the Church. They betrayed the other four Major Human Errors, killing or imprisoning them.

Ты в курсе, что единственный аспект в котором этот тайтл превосходит Оверлорд это фансервис? Персонажи тупые, в происходящие тупо не вериться, нет логики. Почти каждое их действие выглядит наигранно и странно. Интересных сайд персонажей нет. Не считая главных героев и возможно антагониста, суммарный IQ всей живности в их мире не больше 6.
На убийства ояша всем фиолетово и рейтинг не из-за этого низкий. Тайтл просто не живой. Радует только графоний и опенинг, а так заслуженный 6.6.
Хорошее аниме. Не понимаю, почему такой низкий рейтинг. Да, не шедевр. Но ворлдбилдинг тут солидный, это не generic fantasy стомилионного безидейного мира, в который попадает ГГ из Овердорда или Героя Щита. Тем, кому не понравилось убийство ОЯШа, задайте себе вопрос: стали бы Вы терпеть чужака, который нечестным путём получил огромную силу и придя на Ваши земли начал диктовать свои условия? В общем, такое случалось в мире не раз, это сразу дают понять. И по большому счёту неважно, хороший он или плохой. Он угроза, и это даже не ксенофобия и не средневековая предвзятость. Это организованный подход к обеспечению безопасности (который, да, чрезмерно жесток и у него по сюжету потом выявляется куча минусов). Позже по сюжету объяснят, что у попаданцев мозги вытекают при использовании способностей, но даже без этого вполне понятно, что к чему.
Аниме, к тому же, этим сразу даёт понять, что это не паверфентези. Что, в принципе, даже интересно.

Whilst Crunchyroll and Netflix continue to be the giants of anime streaming in 2022, it’s fantastic to see the likes of HiDive becoming more and more popular with fans worldwide.
The streaming platform has featured the likes of Ya Boy Kongming, I’m Quitting Heroing, The Demon Girl Next Door and The Executioner and Her Way of Life on the Spring slate, the latter of which has just concluded its first season.
Unfortunately, The Executioner and Her Way of Life has not yet been publicly renewed for season 2 by J.C. Staff, but what are the chances that Menou and co will return for more adventures in a second broadcast?

The Executioner and Her Way of Life season 2 renewal status
As previously noted, season 2 of The Executioner and Her Way of Life has not yet been officially announced; however, the future remains bright for the anime series.
The reasons for our optimism are simple; there is enough source material for another season and the show is likely popular enough to warrant a second season being ordered.
Not only does this mean that there is potentially enough source material for a second anime season of The Executioner and Her Way of Life, but also a third too!
Then we have popularity; despite The Executioner and Her Way of Life by no means being one of the biggest shows of the Spring slate, the series has maintained respectable levels of intrigue and demand across its season 1 broadcast.
The series is currently being rated at a 6.94/10 on MyAnimeList and just 6.1/10 on IMDB. Whilst these scores are notably lower than many other series from the Spring slate, The Executioner and Her Way of Life was simulcast on HiDive, where it scored a 4.5/5, instead of the larger Crunchyroll platform. In fact, the series has also repeatedly appeared in the AniTrendz Top Anime polls, peaking at rank 11.
Considering that over 19,000 reviews and 97,000 members are listed on the MAL page and despite being on a ‘smaller platform’, The Executioner and Her Way of Life should prove popular enough to merit a second season.
Under the assumption that the anime will be renewed for season 2, fans can expect the show to return in April 2023 – based on the production cycle of 12 months for season 1 and the availability of source material.

How to read the original manga and light novel series
Seven volumes of the light novel series have been published in Japan, but only four of those volumes have been published in English as of June 18 th – volume 5 is set to release in September 2022.

The Executioner and Her Way of Life Gets First Anime Trailer
Warner Bros. Japan released the first animated trailer for The Executioner anime series. The release date for the fantasy anime is scheduled for 2022. An English subtitled trailer was also released.
The main staff was also revealed, including Yoshiki Kawasaki (Ascendance of a Bookworm assistant director) as director, Shogo Yasukawa (Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma series composer) as series composer, Keiko Tamaki (Cells at Work! chief animation director) as character designer, Jin Aketagawa (Re:ZERO sound director) as sound director, and MICHIRU (given music composer) as music composer. J.C.Staff is in charge of the animation production.
The light novel is written by Satou Mato and published in the GA Bunko. Yen Press is publishing the light novel in English.

Не очень понимаю, что вообще адекватного и нового в этой серии кто увидел. Тут показывается именно то самое «средневековое» консервативное мышление, при котором люди не стремятся что-то узнать или разобраться в проблеме, а тупо уничтожить и запретить то, что они не понимают и/или не могут контролировать. Такое поведение свойственно консервативным обществам, что стремятся всеми силами сохранить статус-кво, ведь любые изменения могут привести к катастрофе, по мнению такого общества.
И, справедливости ради, подобные идеи некоторые авторы пытаются разбивать в своих произведениях. Как, кстати, и в этом произведении данную идею автор в дальнейшем будет разделывать по кирпичикам. Мне не нравится только, как автор это делает. Я уже вдосталь насмотрелся «шокирующих» поворотов и другой безмозглой дешёвой драмы.

Every season fans complain about getting the same generic isekai tropes over and over again. We finally get a show that breaks that mold and unfortunately still went under the radar because of not having an OP self insert male character and having a yuri ship.
I really don’t know how this would have been a negative unless you A) didn’t read the synopsis of the show going into it or B) Wanted the same generic tropes that you complain about every season.
For me, I will always prefer a female protagonist especially in fantasy stories as they tend to be better written, actually capable of holding their own on their own merits and generally apart of better stories as there’s not a reliance on fan service or high school level jokes to enhance their character.
Story wise, Shokei Shoujo is peak isekai. The whole concept of Menou having to find a way to kill Akari while clearly gradually developing feelings for her is something I haven’t seen before. The characters are all unique and bring their own personalities to enhance the story, the world is very much alive and the lore of the universe is really well written. So many directions that this story can go in and as someone who just started reading the books, I can’t wait to find out.
Pacing is solid, animation is solid, voice acting is great and I have a particular love for the colour palette as well as eyes in this series. Everything is so bright and I love that in an anime. The show also has what is without a doubt for me, the OP of the season. A really beautiful bop from Mili.
Shokei shoujo was the show I looked most forward to every week, I fell in love with these characters and this world and generally had an awesome time watching. On to the LN’s. Shokei Shoujo gets 10 out of 10.
Everything about Shokei Shoujo no Virgin Road screams comically bad pseudo-deep isekai to me. An anime that aired last year even did the so-called first episode twist better. Yet, the overall reaction kept saying subversive thriller. It’s like Re:Zero, if Re:Zero was cheaper, blander, and lacking any depth.
From the beginning, Menou is a mouthpiece to dump exposition on the unfortunate viewer. The writer arbitrarily added a generic character with the appearance of a standard male isekai hero, but only for her to spout world-building at him in the most unnatural way possible. Menou’s role is to speak lines that insert what the writer wants the audience to think before being an actual character. She delivers these lines so seriously that it’s funny. Everyone talks like this except for a few selective oddities.
Menou develops gradually as she struggles to overcome her need to murder Lost Ones and reconcile with the assassin who conditioned her. The rare times she broke her serious persona to have banter with Akari was actually pleasant. Akari’s tongue-in-cheek sense of humor plays off Menou’s straight man act because the writers know how to place jokes appropriately. Akari flirts with Menou, vies for her affection, and asks to go on dates, usually for humor rather than a sincere relationship. The show is undoubtedly at its worst when it separates Menou and Akari.
Although Akari comes off as a shallow comic relief character at first, developments in the show’s second half add depth to her personality. After a few convoluted twists, you find more to her than meets the eyes. Ultimately, she is a shallow husk of a protagonist used as a plot device when needed, with little space to grow. The excitement of her time-reversal power wears off when you realize it was done exponentially better Steins;Gate. Even Re: Zero’s first cour utilized its time travel mechanic much better. She is characterized by laughably melodramatic and overwrought flashbacks. You would have a more enjoyable time finding another anime to watch than piecing together her lore. This is an extension of the show’s larger issue, mistaking poor storytelling with foreshadowing. Rather than hint at mysteries, they deliver the twist first and expect you to be impressed when they reveal the build-up. It’s like telling a joke by saying the punchline first; you haven’t achieved anything. You’ve just made your story needlessly confusing.
Menou’s assassin companion, Momo, is a caricature of a psychotic lesbian—two words I despise putting beside one another. She is introduced with laser red eyes, only to speak as in a moe voice and motorboat Menou. Cute-but-unhinged archetypes like Momo are so played out in Executioner. After the third secretly evil moe character it’s clear the author either ran out of ideas or has an obsession with the trope. For most of Momo’s screentime, she clings to Menou, hiding in the shadows to tie loose ends. Momo’s rival, a rather unconvincing tough-as-nails swordswoman, gives her other things to do, thankfully.
There are no thrills to the action unless you count gratuitous viscera for the sake of it entertaining. Blood, gore, children getting diced up, but there’s no impact. It’s all faux darkness to seem more mature than it is. The creators were seemingly trying to one-up other isekai anime labelled as «mature» with its outlandish blood and gore.
I would be remiss if I did not mention the remarkable quality of the visuals and audio. In terms of J.C. Staff productions, it’s comparable to One Punch Man’s second season; frequently reused animation loops, low-detail character designs, and janky CGI monsters. Sakuga cuts are used sparingly, but admittedly the bombastic fight scenes look exhilarating when they try. However, the sound design is exceptionally bad. What little sound effects they include are pleasing, but it’s as though their audio team ran out of time frequently. I especially loved how Menou could perfectly hear Momo talking outside of a moving train from the inside because they forgot to add wind or distortion. Visual effects such as the sparkling Ether dust, and the show’s magic system, have no sound whatsoever. Part of what makes the final episode so anticlimactic is the janky CGI that undermines its attempts at grotesque body horror.
For all of the exposition dumps, the show offers little explanation for the magic system and power scaling. They mention different tiers of assassins offhand but never show how that status affects their powers. Fighters wield giant swords made of light, launch explosions, and throw magic circles every which way. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t have exciting moments, but ultimately the fights are tensionless. Seconds before death, one of the heroes will inevitably reveal a cheap gimmick magic ability to save themself. It’s repetitive, predictable, and never as shocking as the author intended. This might feel original if there weren’t already a hundred violent isekai anime. Instead, it is derivative of the same story it’s attempting to tell.
The early 20th-century attire juxtaposed with modern technology sets the show apart from a production design standpoint. The Lost Ones influenced architecture, design, and technology powered by magic rather than electricity. Don’t think too hard about it. Obviously, the writers didn’t because the more you do, the less it makes sense. If you’re interested in the people inhabiting the fantasy world… well, you’d be better off reading the light novels because backstories, politics, and lore are sparse.
Shokei Shoujo no Virgin Road is so heavy-handed and awkward it comes across as a parody. It feels like you’re watching the script’s first draft because of how the story is told in such an ass-backwards way. There are some redeeming qualities, such as the relatively ambitious production and hints at queer romance. But, ultimately, they are overshadowed by a shitload of problems. The characters talk in cliches and tedious explanations instead of dialogue. It is so self-serious in the face of utterly idiotic writing that it leads to plenty of unintentionally funny scenes. All of the plot twists and gratuitous violence were the show’s attempt to shock us. The shock factor is what the story was built upon, truly. It is a lazy attempt at subversion that never found a reason to exist.
Shokei Shoujo no Virgin Road is one of the isekais that come from the new batch of isekai series of this season, however, what made Shokein Shoujo no Virgin Road stand out to me? We’ll see about it. This review has spoilers, mostly in the character section.
The series has some pretty good world building, the world in which the series occurs gets explored in multiple ways we are told the past and how the culture got to the point it is like why they all talk in Japanese, the reasons why they treat people from other world in the way they do, explanations of the locations they are in which helps in not everything looking the same. We get more than a superficial part of the world explained and there is even more that the anime didn’t get to cover.
The animation is actually pretty good, JC Staff really put effort into this, there are multiple fight scenes which look really good, especially the ones from episode 10 and beyond. The animation and art are pretty consistent through the show, the only nitpick I could make is that in episode 8 there were some reused frames, however even there it still looked nice outside of that, and the purpose of those frames was mostly comedic so not much is lost in there.
About the adaptation, it is actually a pretty faithful adaptation which makes sense since they were adapting only 2 volumes, some minor stuff and here were omitted. The only problem with things omitted is Momo’s backstory, it made her power look like it came almost out of nowhere for not having much information on it in the anime. Despite that, there is also something I liked about the added scenes, some of them give some more character interaction, however a scene in episode 7 where Manon is with the little girl and takes her to the Iron Maiden wasn’t there originally, it was a really good idea to add that scene to make a bigger surprise in a future episode than how it was in the novels.
With the characters we have our protagonist, Menou, unlike most isekais the MC of the series is actually a girl from the world that isn’t Japan, she is pretty calm, she has a determination to kill Lost Ones after her town got destroyed and spending a lot of time her her teacher Flare, she tries her best to kill them for no one else to have to commit those actions she does, despite that she is still has a warm side to her like even after killing Mitsuki she is still buried him, and actually we get to see with Momo how she can treat other people nicely outside of her work. As she travels with Akari she gets to open herself to her and start caring for her, she protects Akari from outsiders at any cost and feels bad for having to kill her but it is still something she has to do to protect her world, it is a self-character conflict that she has that mainly drives the story. Akari is actually an interesting one, we first see her as a very happy person that is suddenly very attracted to Menou despite just meeting her, as if it was fate that connected them, she can be bothersome in some stuff since she is always excited about stuff and is always drooling over Menou, however in episode 6 everything makes sense, we get to see that the usual Akari we see is not her actual personality and that she has traveled multiple times to try to save Menou, the Akari with memories is far more collected than the normal one although still somewhat inexpert in some stuff, she comes off as much more normal than the other and it start to makes sense that the other Akari enjoys so much her time with Menou and the reason why she is so determined to get killed by her. The interactions between Menou and Akari a lot of the time come from Akari being too excited over things or wanting to jump to what Menou is doing or calling her attention, it come with some funny moments, while it also can have some serious and nice moments about them, specially at their “dates” and in episode 6, stuff like that was pretty nice to see, their relationship actually seems more like a friendship.
Momo is the one that probably come out the weakest of the characters, specially because of the omitted part of her past, the reason why she never stands anyone aside from Menou is because she is a misanthrope, her “senpai” is the most important thing in the world for her and that’s why she wants to make Akari disappear as fast as possible, she is always following Menou even if she cannot be at her side helping her to solve some of the stuff that she cannot do alone. Ashuna is an interesting kind of princess; she doesn’t behaves herself like a normal one since she is a warrior too. She has her own motives, that while we don’t see that much in the beginning we get a little grasp in her conversation with Momo in episode 5 when she talks about having a sister. The interactions between Ashuna and Momo are really fun, so the multiple times when they are together can be amusing. We get to see that Ashuna really cares about Momo even if Momo calls her names and tries to push her to the side.
The opening is song is very good, a great work from Mili, I had to listen to add multiple times a day when it came out, the lyrics really fit with the series and the video tells you a lot of stuff that you would have some hard time guessing until you get there. The ending also is good, the song is nice and after a while I really started to like it, but the most important part to me is the video, I really like the video, it is artistic in the style and it makes you follow Akari understanding her travel.
It’s actually funny how this show got under my radar until one day I found a meme about it after the first episode aired and got interested on it. So finally, Shokei Shoujo no Virgin Road is a very good series with an interesting premise and it has many mysteries, that while some weren’t solved due to the anime adapting only 2 volumes it still manages to surprise and entertain. I’ll definitely be waiting for a second season of this great series.
Isekai stories are a plentiful these days, so much so that this genre has already been awashed of the creativeness of many new authors trying to directly copy-paste other works that have been well established over the years, I’d say more than a decade and a half since SAO’s inception that truly gave Isekai the much maligned and cursed genre that its known today that’s backed by immense, growing popularity with each passing year. But have you ever heard of an Isekai where the entire setting is basically a reverse-Isekai, plus themes and nuances added for effect? I know I have not, and Virgin Road basically opened my eyes to your stereotypical Isekai trope that’s subverted in a much more deep and impactful way that’s not just mere simple background glitches of illusion for shock value, and the magic itself is utilized in such a way that is a total breath of fresh air.
The unimaginable power of Pure Concepts, and Isekai otherworlders called «Lost Ones» whom came from an alternate world known as Japan. These 2 ingredients make up the core premise of Virgin Road, where these Lost Ones would get Isekai-ed and build a new advanced civilization that brought forth Japanese influences into the fantasy world that prospered greatly. However, these Pure Concepts have a negating effect: with prolonged usage, the user will lose control of his/her powers, bringing disaster and calamity to the world, and this eventually gave rise to the fantasy world’s legendary disasters, dubbed the Four Major Human Errors that resulted in the effect of these calamities: the Sword of Salt, which turned the whole Western continent into salt that is gradually melting into the sea; the Pandæmonium, a fog-like dead zone in the Southern archipelago where monsters regularly emerge from; the Mechanical Society, which controls the wild frontier in the East; and the Starhusk, which carved out the centre of the Northern continent and set it afloat. To prevent the disasters from raging another situation like these again, this causal effect has become the strictly forbidden taboo that’s managed by the Faust (essentially the Church of the fantasy world), spawning Executioners that wield magical powers known as Ether and setting out to assassinate any Isekai otherworlders «Lost Ones» are still being summoned to this very day for fear of their uncontrolled powers. This is essentially Virgin Road’s logical extension-cum-exaggerated approach to the Isekai genre, which other than coming off as a one-off shitpost, it’s worldbuilding at its best and most finest.
And the story goes of one such Executioner by the name of Menou: a young priestess who specializes in hunting down and assassinating Lost Ones before they can become liable threats, being fully aware that they are innocents who have done nothing wrong, but her Executioner training dictating that they cannot be allowed to live, as their Pure Concepts will ultimately corrupt them if they’re kept alive for long periods of time. And her task has led to this otherworlder by the name of Akari Tokito: a Lost One with the Pure Concept of Time, summoned by the Grisarika Kingdom’s King Grisarika of the noble class, Noblesse. Just like other people who’ve been summoned from Japan, Akari is dumbfounded of her newly-known power, but isn’t given enough time to experiment on her power because of Executioners like Menou having been trained to kill them within the first sighting of getting to know them, then to slowly invoke the assassination with none the wiser, no words questioned. But when Akari’s Pure Concept of Time essentially reverses the ability to be physically assassinated, Menou fears for the worst, and has to find another way in order to be able to kill her, which Akari gladly agreed to, and thus, the duos’s journey starts leaping through places and people to find an ideal place to commit the assassination, with both parties (Menou indefinitely, Akari definitely) conceding to the act.
Viewing this entire scenario through Menou at first glance, nothing seems out of the ordinary: a knife-wielding magecraft with full mastery of her ether. That’s until you get to see the nuance of how she thinks and acts through every situation: she’s groomed from young to be an Executioner because of what she has faced in her past. Remember the Sword of Salt incident that arose from the Lost Ones’ Pure Concept powers bellowing out of control? Menou is a survivor of the harrowing incident, which left her soul «bleached» birthed that became the trauma to form the emotionless husk of a child ridden of her family, with no dream left to live by for a suicidal life. This trauma was relieved by none other than the legendary priestess by the name of Flare, known for her incredible skill in magecraft, as well as being the well-known top Executioner responsible for the assassinations of Lost Ones. Having seen the devastation of a lone child wandering across the vast space of a situation that Menou herself could’ve not overcome, Flare took her in as her apprentice, and Menou even called herself as Flare’s «Flarette», her successor in the current day and age where Flare is nowhere to be found. So think of Menou as like Nana Hiiragi from Talentless Nana, though pulling this gambit off is what essentially kicks off the show proper.
The other question now raises to the Yuri aspect of the show, since Mato Sato’s work is basically labelled as a Yuri (a.k.a girls’ love) work through and through. Raising the bar first to the Lost One Akari Tokito, it’s pretty much self-explanatory of her power with the Pure Concept of Time, and if you stripping the power aspect away, Akari is initially portrayed as rather clumsy and air-headed, but also kind and trusting, that lead her to easily trust Menou upon their first meeting as she believed that their encounter was fate. In retrospect, Akari has already used her power to invoke the Regression of Time, saving Menou from countless death instances, which circumstances that their meeting in the fantasy world purely comes down to fate and not the first as we’re initially led to believe on the surface level. But remember when I said that the more that the user uses his/her own Pure Concept, he/she will lose control of their powers? This is exactly what happened to Akari, and in this case, resulted in the loss of her memories every time she regresses and leaving traces of deja vu for nothing more than just a passing resemblance for mystery. But, you can’t mistake that other than fate, and to even anticipate the killing moment, it may sound insane from Akari’s POV, but her character shows that her love and attachment to Menou is genuine, and this may be the first time that I’m hearing this that’s similar to the ever-so-popular Christian jargon of «dying to self» for others’ gain.
The next literate pink-haired Nana Hiiragi feel-alike is Momo, another Executioner priestess and Menou’s personal aide to assist on missions ranging from reconnaissance to providing support in battles, wielding a wire saw as her weapon. Many may question the significance of the Yuri-ness from Momo to Menou, and this is supported by the fact that both were childhood friends, and the crush that sparked out of it from the hair ribbons that Menou gave to her. Yes, it may sound insignificant that something like a hair ribbon is all it takes for a hot-bodied love affection, but to Momo, this is all that she had of her memories with Menou, and I can definitely understand that this connection creates the reassurance that Menou will always be with her, even when they’re physically apart. That, with Akari’s inclusion in Menou’s life, Momo’s jealousy reaches far beyond the levels of the earth so much so to always grumble with Menou, that the latter always appreciates her presence, knowing fully well of the awfully close attachment. But just like a well-hidden enclosure of a yandere, Momo is a force to be reckoned with if she is unleashed of her powers, that love translates to a massive power draw that’s equivalent to death unhinged, and you DO NOT want to anger this well-endowed girl, but pet her like an overly attached pet to calm her tits down.
The other characters do make their appearances and create their own diversions based on their characteristics, from the likes of the Grisarika Kingdom’s warrior princess Ashuna Grisarika whom disregards her position as a princess to look for worthy opponents for battle, to yet another Lost One: Manon Libelle leading a liberated social class all in the disguise that in private, she is but only one of the four main antagonists in the overall story (that’s covered in the anime so far). Adding the Church aspect of the Faust and Noblesse being at loggerheads with one another, and you have character and worldbuilding that’s larger than life as the series grows to expose more infodump that is cohesive and doesn’t feel like it’s a waste of time. It’s very good and worthy of the Grand Prix position that it won by its inherent strength of making everything connected, that not one single instance is a throwaway feature just for show.
Unsurprisingly, for such a valuable work like this, I’d thought that J.C. Staff would penchant the DanMachi staff team to work on this since this unironically links to a high-quality production given its stature, but since we already know at this point that DanMachi would come back next season, an entirely new staff team must be helmed for this stop-gap show of sorts. And for the notables, bringing in Isekai Bookworm assistant director Yoshiki Kawasaki for his directorial debut, veteran series composer Shougo Yasukawa, Hataraku Saibou a.k.a Cells at Work! chief animation director and character designer Keiko Tamaki, it already sounds like there is a seasoned crew of people whom regardless if they knew the extent of the LN’s status, would still produce the finest quality that matches the exuberance of the source material in its grandiose. Some nice scenes, especially the high-octane action battles that are a sight to behold, while making this a wholly J.C. Staff work that’s definitely the quality that we’ve come to know of the studio in shows (especially DanMachi), and this doesn’t feel like the cheapness of other average shows that has recently been produced to mixed fanfare.
On the musical side, Mili’s «Paper Bouquet» for the OP, other than the fact that it is sung entirely in English (which you can easily find the lyrics in Spotify), it is an excellent OP that embraces its visual spectacle, but I can’t help that feeling that it doesn’t sound as good as say, Goblin Slayer’s ridonclous gore-rape fest of an OP that I still remember to this very day. It has the Mili «Seal of Quality» that’s for sure that some people can appreciate, but I just find the song to be decent at best. On the other hand, I freaking love ChouCho’s songs with the rawness of her vocal range that is precedent in 2017’s «Imouto sae Ireba Ii.» and 2020’s «Majo no Tabitabi», and of the 2 ending songs sung this season (this one and the Maou Gakuin-inspired shitfest that is Murabito A), «Touka Serenade» is the next acclimation of ChouCho’s angelic voice, paired with the dignified visuals that are just shades of artistic symbolisms placed between Menou and Akari’s relationship. No doubt that in my mind, this ED is low-key certainly one of the best of the season in both music and visuals combined.
We should come to a consensus: since Japan has countless manga and novel awards like the Dengeki Novel Prize and GA Bunko Grand Prix, these works MUST be adapted into anime, and we SHOULD watch more of them to know of their individual acclaims in the Land of the Rising Sun. The only problem is that people like to profit off of no-name, average people pumping out average works just for quick bucks of cash cows, and this is the rare instance of getting works that have already won prestigious awards that’s so great, in the same rhetoric that anime will spike up more sales of the source material. Hopefully this proves to be so, and if there is a Season 2 of this, I will gladly watch more of Virgin Road, because this is the lost art of creative and bold storytelling that so many new wannabe authors nowadays just miss the mark, or barely hung on to tried-and-true methods to try being different, when in actuality, they’re one and the same.

However, if you be patient to carry on and finish volume 3 or 4, then everything will be clicked. Everything has its own reason to happen, even the guy who was killed as an introduction to the system of the world is still mentioned later on. The biggest dark thing about the novel is it is a very dark world, but we see it from a protagonist who does not know about its dark nature, and we are deceived just like her. Bit by bit, the novel will unravel the mystery, and the protagonist will have to grow up, not as a dark tragedy hero, but in her own way. If you look for other reviews, you can see that this novel is rated pretty bad in volume 1-2, but the score becomes higher for later volumes.
Now, for other stuffs.
It behaves like science in volume 1, but in volume 2, it shows that Otherworlders can use their Concepts to make it behaves like magic. In volume 4, it reveals that the thing called Guiding Force is a system that written to the world. You can use Concept to write more laws to it, like sacrificing Time Concept to create Time Guiding Force. Also, since the Church is on top of the food chains, the rebellion has to borrow power from Human Errors to fight against them.
Akari is an air-head because she brainwash herself with her power. Even if she does not do that, she still retains half of the air-head since she loses her memories already. Later on she could think outside-of-the-box because she has experienced to this journey many times. Menou is still a dark tragedy hero at volume 4, but she likely changes since the reason why Akari loses her memory comes from that characteristic. Even the old lady villian is revealed to commit her taboo because of the true nature of the Church as well.
The world is very adaptive. It centrals around the Otherworlders with their Concepts, so everything seems pretty fake. Most of things are attached with details like «oh this comes from Japanese culture» and the character will talk about other things.
First, we have a cringe tragedy hero who wants to be a savior but keep telling herself she is a villain. Then, we have anime magical girls with over-the-top attitude. Next, some realistic world building is added to the mix. Then, at the end, cartoonist villian appear and it turns out everybody is insane in this story. The next volume continues exaplain why everyone is f*cked up like that and throw in some weird things. It keeps go on and on and soon you will be hooked to this kind of chaos.
You introduce me this wonderful world of order, which simply separated the people into three classes: the Nobles, the Fausts (priests), and the Commons.
It started great; summoned otherworlder get dumped outside the castle, approached by a nice girl, getting introduced to the world, and then cool powers, before the nice girl kill him.

The plot, it’s not bad. It’s just. I think it should be something akin to the Final Arc or something, not the first one. Because even though you tried, tried, to show how Otherwolders shouldn’t be killed just because they exist, I am still riding on the high of killing one.
Ironically, this actually would be great if it goes by villain-of-the-week. A squad Of Executioners figuring out how to kill each OP characters. Of course, also overreaching plot.
Great idea, poor execution.
Not much in the form of yuri AT ALL at least so far other then both Momo and Akari being in love with Menou. I get that the tones of the story are just not a normal yuri story it’s very political/action/story driven but come on give us a little less cold version of Menou giving some loving to Akari. Even though Akari just keeps calling her «her best friend» there is no friend that would do as much as she’s done for her just because she’s a friend haha.

The Lost Ones are wanderers who come here from a distant world known as «Japan.» No one knows how or why they leave their homes. The only thing that is certain is that they bring disaster and calamity. The duty of exterminating them without remorse falls to Menou, a young Executioner. When she meets Akari, it seems like just another job until she discovers it’s impossible to kill her. And when Menou begins to search for a way to defeat this immortality, Akari is more than happy to tag along.

That’s not what The Executioner and Her Way of Life is at all. The defining emotion behind the production isn’t cruelty or spite, but melancholy—a very real sadness as Menou swiftly and efficiently eliminates the teenage boy she had just lured to her church. He didn’t ask for this, and even though his potential to become an existential threat to her world once he fully developed his powers was clear, he was more a victim of circumstance than anything else.
What really makes the episode work is its incredible sense of balance, never pushing too far in one direction or another. The time Menou spends with poor Potato-kun before dispatching him is just enough to feel like they’re building a rapport and introduce the world, but doesn’t go long enough to feel like they’re faffing about. The on-screen deaths are swift and matter-of-fact instead of leaning into gratuitous, bloody spectacle, but also just graphic enough that they aren’t shying away either. There’s comic relief but never at an inappropriate time (although I would prefer that Momo wasn’t like that), so the emotional ups and downs of the episode flow smoothly from one to the next.
No, The Executioner and Her Way of Life isn’t what I expected at all. But I like what we got way more.

This is a world where random Japanese high schoolers have been summoned dozens if not hundreds of times. Each one of them has styled themselves as some kind of “fantasy story protagonist” and set out to effect the world. Some of these changes have been good—like an increase in overall technology. Others. not so much. The world’s original culture and language have been largely supplanted by Japan’s. But worse still is the fact that every summoned kid is basically a walking WMD—and there’s not even a “Demon Lord” to pit them against.
So what we have are unstable teens, stolen from their homes, given godlike powers, and feeling like they are the most important people in the world. Is it any surprise that after the first few of them went crazy, a revolution occurred that basically set up a hierarchy where the church was tasked with killing the summoned kids and punishing the people who summoned them?
One thing I love is that the church assassins have learned to play into the fantasy world tropes that the summoned Japanese kids are familiar with. Every assassin we’ve seen so far as been a woman—a strict teacher, a kindly grandmother, and a precocious little sister. Menou herself plays the pure and kind priestess role perfectly—including just enough of her own personality to make her feel like a real person and not an actor. Each would work as a solid cover for getting close to the summoned kids.
I also love how the episode doesn’t waste our time. It didn’t give us 22 minutes pretending to be just another isekai power fantasy with a milquetoast protagonist. It only takes 10 minutes for his butt to end up dead on the floor—and that 10 minutes is used to introduce us to the world more than anything else. Honestly, it is great writing that allows the back half of the episode to expound on the twist and layout the complications facing Menou and her order. It also shows us that Menou doesn’t see the Japanese as evil nor herself as a hero for killing them. She is doing what she needs to do to protect her world. No more, no less.
After one episode, I’m all in for this series. It seems to be perfectly tailored for me and I can’t wait to follow it each week.

Then Menou shoved her blade right into Mitsuki’s skull, and I realized that The Executioner and Her Way of Life might actually kind of rule. It isn’t just because seeing Mitsuki bite it was a cathartic release of the pent-up rage I’ve built for every lame isekai potato-boy that we’ve seen over the years, either. It was that flash of cruel callousness that Mitsuki exhibited right before he bit the dust that really got me tuned into this show’s wavelength. Executioner doesn’t just recognize the inherently problematic aspects of having a bunch of angsty teens from another universe fall out of the sky with almost godlike powers at their disposal; it builds that tension right into Menou’s tragic origin. As it turns out, most kids in the position of an isekai protagonist would probably be scared and confused, and they might end up doing things like accidentally turning a village of innocent civilians into terrifying salt monsters in a desperate attempt to return home. That’s more than just a creative spin on well-worn genre cliches. That’s solid storytelling, straight up.
I’ll admit that the scattershot tone of the premiere’s second half didn’t wow me as much as what came before it. Momo’s relationship with Menou is cute, but the “hypersexual lesbian comic relief” bit feels like a cliché that’s being played straight, which is disappointing, and the shift to overly comedic banter felt at odds with the very dark and exciting elements of the first part of the episode. Still, Menou is a very cool character to be following in a story like this, and the “other” Lost One that got summoned in by the sketchy royals looks to be an interesting “heroine” in her own right. Time will tell if The Executioner and Her Way of Life turns out to be the absolute barnburner that it could grow into, but it’s got my attention at the very least, and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.

I don’t have the words to express just how big a gulp of fresh air this premiere was. Every season we get what feels like a half-dozen versions of the same show. Some Melvin gets tossed into a fantasy world that oh-so-conveniently works just like his favorite video game, develops Übermensch fantasy powers that make all the pretty girls want to date and/or be enslaved by him, and we have to pretend we haven’t seen that exact premise 40 times in the past year. So to have a show with an honest-to-god clever take on the standard isekai setup – not a wacky gimmick to stick on the front cover, but an actually interesting idea that runs deeper than a kiddie pool – and one that takes place in an instantly fascinating and fleshed-out fantasy world? It feels like a minor miracle.
Really, everything about this premiere is just damn good anime storytelling. From the moment Menou reaches out to our nameless isekai potatoman there’s a sense that she’s not quite the innocent maiden offering to help him out of the goodness of her heart she presents herself as. But even before the ruse is up, she expresses a ton of personality: sarcasm, humor, and just stuff you want to see in a character that so rarely gets highlighted with the female leads of isekai story. And the premiere wisely doesn’t wait its whole runtime to reveal its hand, with Menou executing her charge with brutal efficiency the moment he unlocks his OP special ability, less than halfway into the episode. By not stretching out that bait and switch, we get to actually see Menou in her element, learn about who she is and why she works as an otherworld executioner for the church, as well as a ridiculously compelling glimpse into the world around her.
That part is especially important for me. This is a world that, while having some similarities to other standard isekai fantasy settings, feels like it has a history to it. This is a world with an established caste structure that is nonetheless in contention between the church and the nobles. This is a place that has been summoning randos from Japan for so long that their influences have greatly shaped the culture of the people living there. This is a place with really cool and clever fantasy devices, like our executioners’ Scripture books that allow them to communicate and cast spells with vastly different effects. It’s just a cool, interesting world that you want to spend time in and learn more about, and it’s such a rarity in the current isekai zeitgeist.
And while its riffing on isekai tropes could have felt like inside baseball, so far it’s been a pretty thoughtful – if critical – look at the very conceit rather than just self-aware references. It’s certainly not the first series to posit that giving insecure teenagers god-tier powers is a bad idea, but the show zeroes in on the cruel tragedy of it all instead of going for edgy shock value. The scene of the Lost One who unintentionally killed Menou’s whole village by turning them into pillars of salt is effective both in its horror and its function to show that these people Menou and her compatriots are sent to kill are dangerous, but not inherently evil. They’re people in way over their heads and even if Menou feels killing them is the right thing to do, she recognizes they didn’t deserve that fate. That’s a really compelling conflict for both the story and Menou’s character, and I’m really interested to see it play out with her next target. Though if I were here I’d have murdered the first guy the moment he talked about introducing mayonnaise to her world. That’s the real danger worth snuffing out.
In all this is the best kind of premiere you can ask for. It’s exciting, compelling, excellently animated, and gives you every reason to come back for more. If you’re understandably wary of yet another isekai fantasy story trying to be dark and edgy, put those worries to the side, because this one is absolutely a keeper.

Or does it? There are some good details leading up to the reveal that work in the first half of the episode’s favor, such as the way Japanese culture is slowly taking over the indigenous culture of the fantasy world and that Mitsuki’s first thoughts upon realizing that he’s got the power to “nullify” (as in erase from existence) are that now no one can mistreat him because he’ll destroy them before they ever get the chance. It’s an abrupt shift for him from being fully dependent on Menou and a little bit of a sad sack, but given that his first words in the new world are that no one can ever pick on him again, they’re not completely out of the blue. It definitely feels like a statement on the kind of character we typically see in isekai power fantasies, and while murder is objectively bad, it’s also not hard to see why Menou and the members of her church kill the Lost Ones and reprimand those who summon them.
The first half is much stronger than the second, largely because it doesn’t involve Momo, our requisite predatory lesbian. Momo’s obsession with Menou (and her grope-fest) sucks all of the tension and interest right out of the plot, and while the story tries to recover from her ill-advised entry on the scene, it’s a struggle. The potential that Menou and the other Lost One summoned with Mitsuki, a girl who’s being kept in the castle he was thrown out of, could have a romantic or other link based on mutual dreams of each other across the worlds is a definite mark in the show’s favor, but the way that Momo’s handled makes me worried that the storytelling won’t be up to the task. It may be worth another episode to see how that plotline develops (and how much Momo’s going to be in the story), but while this is fine, I think the other book does it better.

The Executioner and Her Way of Life
The premiere episode of The Executioner and Her Way of Life was a hell of a good time, as it managed to put a fun twist on some of the most tired modern isekai tropes while also telling a very fun story in its own right. I was excited enough when we got to watch our heroine Menou stab Potato McIsekaiFace in the skull just as he was beginning to get a little too excited about the prospect of murdering all of his enemies with his terrifying nullification magic. Everything that came after that only made the premise of the show all the more compelling. Menou is a conflicted and relatable heroine, and the flashback to the traumatizing destruction of her hometown kills two birds with one stone: It makes you understand exactly how and why a girl like Menou would become a sactioned Executioner, and it shows off the spectacle that the show is capable of when its using its setting and magical rules to the fullest.
There are plenty of shows that had a stellar premiere, only to run out of steam in the long term. What I was really looking for in these following episodes were signs that Executioner could hold its own as a series without all of the shock value it mustered with Menou’s introduction. We have a whole world to build, after all, not to mention a central relationship to develop between Menou and Akari, the latter of whom possesses a very powerful magic that can literally turn the tides of time itself. Twelve episodes isn’t a whole lot of time to tell a coherent and satisfying story, and we’re about a quarter of the way through the series already. (at least, if the HIDIVE episode count is anything to go by). Thankfully, I think I can say that, so far, the show is doing a good job of living up to its potential…mostly.
I have a few nagging quibbles that I will get to shortly, but my biggest takeaway from Episodes 2 and 3 of The Executioner and Her Way of Life is that the show is consistently fun to watch, and that’s a good sign. There are some holes in its writing and production that could lead to problems in the long term, but the show has officially passed the all-important Three Episode Test. Even if I wasn’t being asked to cover this anime for my job, I’d want to keep up with it on my own time. When you have to watch as much anime as we do around these parts, that’s quite the compliment.
More than anything, this series is a testament to how you don’t need to completely rely on shocking twists and subverted expectations to deliver a good story. Menou’s conflict over having to escort the functionally immortal Akari to the city of Garm is maybe a little straightforward—we all know that Menou is going to eventually start to question her role as Akari’s murderer—but the show sells her character well enough that you buy it anyway. It helps that Akari is a sweetheart, so you totally understand why Menou would feel at least kind of bad about gutting Akari like a fish (for a second time, that is).
I’m even starting to warm up to Momo, whose “aggressive lesbian comedy relief” shtick was one of the only major gripes I had with the premiere. The character is still a bit much for my tastes, and I’m not jazzed about how her entire role in the story feels based entirely on her feelings for Menou, but she plays better when she has more to do than make obvious passes at her friend and comment on Akari’s boob size. She gets to play more notes than “aggressively horny” once Menou and Akari set off on their journey to Garm, and she even gets a major action highlight when the train attack gets going in Episode 3.
Episode 3 is where I think we’ve gotten the best look so far at what kind of show The Executioner and Her Way of Life is actually going to be. The premiere was mostly a hook, and an effective one at that, and Episode 2 was devoted entirely to introducing Akari and setting up her journey with Menou. When our heroines get caught up in a terrorist plot on the ether train bound for Garm, though, we have our first proper plot for the girls to work through, and the results are pretty good! Momo gets to show off her sadistic side on the terrorist she tortures for information, and her fight with Princess Ashuna is a great setpiece. I love the magic-infused chain that Momo uses for a weapon, and Ashuna is an interesting and flamboyant character in her own right. The royal family and the Church’s growing conflict with one another will hopefully add some depth and flavor to Menou and Akari’s story.
One of the only downsides to the train adventure is Menou and Akari’s showdown with the armored warrior inside of the train. The fight simply isn’t as dynamic or fun as the one going on up above, and the production values for this scene (and several others throughout episodes 2 and 3) are noticeably weaker than the generally stellar-looking premiere. The show is never downright ugly, but it’s not the kind of anime that can get by on flash and style alone, either.
The final scene of the episode is also worth mentioning, but not because it’s bad. I actually loved the reveal that Akari saved everyone from dying horribly in a train crash with her time powers; it’s a great cap to the episode-long thread of Menou constantly reminding Akari of how “useless” she is in a fight. That said, if I had any major reservations about the series beyond some potentially shoddy visuals, it would be with Akari herself, and only because I want to see more of the tragic and painful side of her existence in this world. So far, the girl has proven to be a sweet and bubbly presence, and while I think there have been a few hints that she knows more than she lets on, she hasn’t been given a lot to do other than be impressed with Menou. Even that excellent train-crash scene is something we only see in the past tense. I guess what I’m saying is that I hope it doesn’t take much longer for Akari to be given the same level of depth that Menou has been afforded; it would be a shame if she only existed to be a precious puppy of a girl for Menou to feel guilty about.
These are all minor issues, though, since they’re mostly just hypothetical at this point. While The Executioner and Her Way of Life hasn’t yet managed to be as blazingly awesome as it was in that first episode, the show is still a very good time time, and I’m excited to see where it goes from here.

Menou is officially sanctioned to execute Otherwolders. Specifically, people isekai’d from our world to hers. As such people are gifted or cursed to receive a very powerful ability. This gift is much more powerful, than what is seen in other isekai stories. Even Ains Ooal Gown and the denizens of Great Tomb of Nazarick would have major problems dealing with one of the more powerful of these Otherwolders. spoiler[ Thousand years ago, one of the continents was transformed into a plain of salt. ]
Good and Evil, and Guilt and Innocence have no meaning to the Executioners. If you are an Otherwolder, the Executioners are coming for you, to kill you. Simply because the Otherworlder’s power is so dangerously powerful. The problem though is, most Otherworlders are summoned against their will to these world. They didn’t ask for this. The power comes at a price though, which the Otherworlders might not realize at first, unless they are notified by their summoners. spoiler[ The power consumes their memories with each use, so in the end they become inhuman powerful entities based on the power they were given. ]
Menou the Executioner and Momo her assistant travel the world executing Otherworlders. Momo is powerful in her own ways spoiler[ and would probably have been an Executioner in her own right, if not for her mental instability. In a way these two girls are victims in their own right, considering the training and elimination methods used on them. ]
In the first novel, Akari joins their party, not as a party member, but rather as their intended target. spoiler[ Which is by necessity, since Akari is an Otherworlder, who apparently is cluelessly unkillable. Since they can’t kill her, they have to lie and deceive Akari that they are helping her, while they try to find ways to kill her. ]
This is where the heart of the story is. What happens you have to get to know the girl you intend to kill, the girl you know who is innocent of abusing or using her powers, and who treats you as a friend she never has had.
In some ways this story is an analogy to the «Wheel of Time» series. Where men born with the One Power are hunted down and killed.
I finished volume 2 a couple days ago. More secrets of the past are revealed spoiler[ and some of the cataclysmic (Human Errors) Otherworlders start to awaken and free themselves. ]
I don’t know what to feel about Menou. She fully knows what she is doing. She knows she is killing evil people and good people. Knows she is killing guilty and innocent people. She is prepared to be hated, prepared to be considered a villain. Perhaps even deserving to suffer in hell, in the afterlife. But it is for the greater good in her eyes. Which could be considered true, considering what happened in the past. On the other hand, I do feel that she has been ‘groomed (in the worst aspects of the word)’ and trained for this role. A training that was also applied to Momo, which has broken her and made her extremely co-dependant on Menou. Don’t get me wrong, Momo can kill and murder with the best of them. She operates solo for the most part supporting Menou. But she is broken and mentally unstable as a person. A victim of the Church origanization that trained them.
This story is going to have a lot of pathos in it, especially volume 2. We do not know the backstory of the legendary de facto villains, because their stories happened a thousand years ago. But there are indications, we will find that out. My feeling is that we would have liked them too a thousand years ago, but they are just tragic victims of events and beings beyond their control.
Story and characters work for me. I want to know more. I want to know more of what happened a thousand years ago and where are favorites are going know. You can’t ask for anything better than that.

Average student Mutou Mitsuki suddenly finds himself transported to another realm. Summoned by the king of this world for the remarkable power he is supposed to possess, Mutou is thrown out when it appears that he lacks a «Special Concept.» Moping about, he encounters a priestess named Menou who explains that Japanese people like him are known as Lost Ones, and such individuals never fail to have Special Concepts. Menou elaborates that she is part of a church that helps abandoned Lost Ones integrate into society. She invites him to spend the night at her church, where the two can probe the nature of his ability. Eventually, they discover that Mutou’s Special Concept is actually incredibly powerful and dangerous. But while Mutou celebrates, Menou shows her true colors and stabs him in the head, killing him instantly. Menou’s goal is not to assist Lost Ones—rather, it is the opposite. Due to four infamous incidents where Lost Ones caused monumental damage, the church has ordered that the foreigners all be assassinated as soon as they are found. With Mutou eliminated, Menou must next dispatch the other Lost One summoned by the king: Akari Tokitou.

Не очень понимаю, что вообще адекватного и нового в этой серии кто увидел. Тут показывается именно то самое «средневековое» консервативное мышление, при котором люди не стремятся что-то узнать или разобраться в проблеме, а тупо уничтожить и запретить то, что они не понимают и/или не могут контролировать. Такое поведение свойственно консервативным обществам, что стремятся всеми силами сохранить статус-кво, ведь любые изменения могут привести к катастрофе, по мнению такого общества.
И, справедливости ради, подобные идеи некоторые авторы пытаются разбивать в своих произведениях. Как, кстати, и в этом произведении данную идею автор в дальнейшем будет разделывать по кирпичикам. Мне не нравится только, как автор это делает. Я уже вдосталь насмотрелся «шокирующих» поворотов и другой безмозглой дешёвой драмы.
The Executioner and Her Way of Life
One of the risks you take going into a light novel adaptation these days is whether or not the anime is just going to end up as a glorified commercial for the books. Y’all know what I mean; it’s when you have cool characters in a great story that run smack into a cliffhanger that may not ever be resolved with another season, which means that your only options are to seek out the books (and that’s if you’re lucky enough to have localized versions of the books to turn to). All of this is to say that I never expected the ending of The Executioner and Her Way of Life to feel especially conclusive, but I sure was preparing myself to at least be underwhelmed. Thankfully, «The Duo’s Journey» does a great job of wrapping up the current storyline while still leaving room for lots more intrigue and tragedy down the road, which is basically everything you could ask for in a finale for a season that may or may not ever get a proper follow up.
Granted, the last episode did so much work escalating the Pandaemonium conflict that the only thing that this finale really had to do was dispatch the giant centipede monster and give each of our heroines something to do in the meantime. The action scenes have been hit-or-miss in this second half of the season, though, so I’m happy to report that Executioner doesn’t fumble it in the endzone. The CGI model that is used for almost any of the non-close-up shots of Pandaemonium doesn’t look amazing, but it’s good enough, and I’ve warmed up to the design since last time. Bug!Pandaemonium has a mouth that is a little too Muppety to be threatening (and that’s coming from a Muppet superfan), but it’s still a fun fight. Ashuna gets to hit stuff really good, Akari gets to shoot stuff with her vague time powers, and Menou gets to use Ashuna’s sword and the power of Akari’s love to turn Pandaemonium into mush. Fun stuff.
Then there’s the half of the episode that exists to wrap up loose ends and remind us that this was just the second story in a multi-volume light novel series, and that there’s plenty more to come in the future. Not every beat works; I’m especially puzzled at the interaction between Menou and Sicilia about Flare. I don’t know if Sicilia had more to do in the books, but she’s barely registered as a character in the show, so the scene mostly felt like a ham-fisted reminder that Flare does indeed exist, and that she may even do something relevant to the plot someday. I also wish we’d gotten more than a throwaway scene when it comes to Menou trying to figure out what the hell was up with Akari’s sudden shift in personality and power level that has just as suddenly disappeared now that Pandaemonium is gone. It comes across as the author writing themselves into a corner with the True Akari reveal and handwaving an easy solution so they can save the better scenes for later.
Still, I’d say more about the finale worked than did not. I loved the final interaction between Menou and Pandaemonium, and not just for the excellently creepy sound design on Pandaemonium’s voice. The reveal that the Sword of Salt might be the one way for Menou to kill Akari gives the next phase of the plot a much more concrete goal. It also gives Momo a great moment to end the season on, since she got very little to do in these last few episodes; I’m very much looking forward to seeing how her own relationship with Akari evolves in the future. Also, can I just say how much I appreciate the little coda we got between Pandaemonium and Manon? The reveal that they are siblings is fine, yeah, but what I really dig is that Manon didn’t just get unceremoniously chest exploded for good. It makes me a lot more forgiving of how the story handled her backstory info-dump knowing that she and her little sis have both survived to wreak more chaos together.
I’ll be honest: I have a really hard time getting into light novels, since I’ve never been impressed with the writing in any of the ones that I’ve read before, and I haven’t heard great things about the quality of Executioner’s prose, specifically. Still, it says something that I liked the anime version of The Executioner and Her Way of Life enough that I’m halfway considering giving the novels a shot anyways. It wasn’t a perfect series, but it’s fascinating characters and world were wrapped up in a genuinely compelling story, and that’s more than enough to earn my seal of approval. All we can do now is pray that there is just a little bit of justice in this world. If a godforsaken curse like The Fruit of Evolution can get a second season, then there is no reason that Executioner can’t get one as well.
