If only they had spent a few bucks more on the actual structural parts of this thing, it could’ve been so good.. First off I wanna give credit where credit is due and say that the battery life is also very very impressive. Having worn them for over a year, the plastic headband started breaking apart in several places after a few months already, having figured that if I just taped the headband back together they were basically still usable and the sound was still very good (mind you I generally take very good care of my devices). Out of the box the bass is a bit thumpy though but you can easily adjust that in the app. Now barely over a year later however the earpads started coming off entirely along the seam on the inside, and the foam on the inside started coming out. Now it wasn’t tearing the cushions or anything, the glue just started coming off along the seam, so again, it wasn’t due to improper use on my part, it was just yet another sign of horrible quality. Not only did this make them uncomfortable to wear, but it also muffled the sound on that one side. Can I recommend them? No, absolutely not. Having google these issues after they appeared, it seems to be a common problem, I even read that one person had to replace them 3 times within warranty period, and all 3 headphones ended up falling apart after a while. Don’t be fooled by the great review that are only based on initial impressions, because if this thing holds out a little longer and doesn’t fall apart til after your warranty period is over, you have just thrown away your 80 bucks that you could’ve used to buy an equally good or even better headphone that would’ve lasted you years longer (or at least longer than a year). Conclusion: I have never in my life seen a product that fell apart this quickly, not even in the early days of aliexpress. Fyi: Headband isn’t very comfortable for +5h sessions either

Soundcore Life Q35 vs Life Q30 Specification Comparison

There doesn’t seem to be that much difference between the new Q35 ANC headphones and the existing Q30

By all accounts, the drivers are the same with the same frequency response; the battery is also the same. They don’t make claims about improved ANC, so I would guess that’s the same or similar.

Set-Up

Normally I just pair things up the old fashioned way, but with these, I decided to use the NFC tag, which worked flawlessly, as long as you hit the tag in the right spot.

Anker also has the Soundcore App. With this, you can manage the firmware of the headphones but also the equaliser and switch between normal, transparency mode and active noise cancellation.

With the noise cancelling on you can switch between transport, indoor and outdoor.

LDAC takes a while to stop popping

With these using LDAC, if your phone supports it, you will have a few additional options within the Bluetooth menu.

By default, it will select balanced audio and connection quality with the high sound quality toggle enabled.

You can then force it to try and use better quality, but it will be prone to interference.

And then, you can also toggle off the high-quality sound for improved connectivity.

While LDAC is superb, I do suffer from some connectivity issues, both with these and the 1MORE Triple Driver BT.

The default connection has interference for the first couple of minutes or so, characterised by popping. However, this settles down, so I assume this is the variable bitrate lowering down to a stable connection.

The highest bit rate is 990 kbps, so that’s 70% more than aptX HD and nearly triple what you get from SBC or aptX.

Sound Quality

Sound quality is good. I don’t think I have ever used a pair of ANC headphones that could be classed as neutral, all of them being quite bass forward. This follows the usual trend with a U or V shape; I’d say the bass is more emphasised than the treble.

The bass emphasis helps drown out whatever remnants of noise that sneak through the ANC, so it is good that this is the sound profile.

Probably the only negative is that the bass can muddy some of the higher frequencies, it is not bad, but I did notice it a little on some heavier metal tracks where the drums seemed to drown out some of the guitars. When the bass isn’t getting in the way, the treble is delivered with decent clarity.

Mids and vocals work well, and they stand out a bit better than the treble.

The headphones can have the EQ tweaked, so if you do want something a little more neutral, you can tweak the settings within the app.

Active Noise Cancelling

Noise cancelling is superb, easily the best I have used at this price point, but not quite as good as the Mu6 Space 2 I have previously used, which cost double.

My main test is airplane cabin white noise on YouTube played at an annoyingly loud volume and then comparing how well my headphones perform both with no music and with music.

I play the cabin noise loud enough that you can easily hear the noise throughout the whole house, I would guess that it is significantly louder than real life, but it has been that loud since I have been on a plane I can’t remember.

Both the Soundcore Life Q35 and Mu6 Space 2 reduce the volume enough from unpleasantly loud to mildly annoying. They both can play music comfortably over the sound, allowing you to hear voices clearly without jacking the music up to much.

I had to swap the headphones about 10 times (paired with two different phones) to work out which was the best. So it is a close call, but I think the Mu6 Space 2, which cost almost twice the price, just about win.

Beyond that, I used these with ANC on for regular use throughout the day, and it does make a massive difference. You can tell the ANC is on at first, it takes a little adjusting to, like many competing brands, but once you have had them on for a little while, any weird sensations go away.

Within the app, you have different ANC settings, so with transport mode, this worked best with the cabin noise where is cut out the low-end frequencies of the engine noise.

Then there is an indoor and outdoor mode. The indoor will try to reduce voices and mid-range frequencies, ideal if you have gone back to the office.

Other Bits – Microphone etc

I do my best to avoid speaking to people so rarely use the microphone on things. However, like many, Zoom has become part of my life. The microphone performance in my office is good, my voice is clear, it is not echoey, it works perfectly fine for me. I normally use the Blue Yeti Nano on the PC and the quality isn’t quite as good as that, though that is to be expected.

The headphones work in wired mode too with ANC then still working in this mode. However I have noticed the volume levels don’t go very high in the wired mode.

Price and Alternative Options

The Anker Soundcore Life Q35 are launching for £129.99, which makes them the most expensive headphones Anker has, but still cheaper than all the big brand name ANC headphones.

The older Anker Life Q30 are currently just £65, which you can’t fault considering the price and I would expect the ANC performance to be the same.

The Huawei Freebuds Studio are probably the best alternative option from a different brand, I have not used these so I can’t comment on the ANC or overall quality, but the Freebuds Pro are excellent. These are just £150

The Mu6 Space 2 offer the best ANC out of the headphones I have reviewed, but at £220, currently, I think they are overpriced. The older Space 1 model seems to offer a similar level of ANC but is just £99, which seems like a bargain.

The popular Bose QuietComfort 35 II are just shy of £200

The last generation Sony WH-1000XM3 is £220, or the newer WH-1000XM4 is £289.99

Overall

The Anker Soundcore Life Q35 are superb, like most Anker products. They offer a high level of active noise cancelling without the premium price tag you get with Bose or Sony. While I won’t claim they are quite as good as those, I think most people will think the £70-150 saving is well worth the compromise.

Sound quality is superb, but this is probably where some of the other more expensive brands will pull away in performance. The EQ makes up for things allowing you to tweak the sound profile to your liking.

The main negative would be the £129.99 RRP vs the current price of the Life Q30, which are about half the cost. I do not doubt that these sound better; LDAC definitely makes a difference. Smart wearing detection and AI calling are nice, but not something I would be bothered about if not there.

Knowing Anker and Amazon, the RRP will quickly drop, making the two options a little more comparable.

Overall though, these are superb, and it makes you question if you really need to spend twice the price for minor improvements in performance from the big brand names.

Endurance Bluetooth over-ears with multimode ANC and LDAC codec

Like Ankers Soundcore Life Q30, the Life Q35 are also equipped with a transparency mode and three noise-cancellation profiles for outdoor or indoor use as well as for travelling. Flexible sound adjustment via an app is also available, and here the Chinese manufacturer relies on LDAC technology, a particularly high-resolution audio codec, for its new flagship wireless over-ears.

The space-saving foldable design is very reminiscent of its predecessor and, at 268 grams, weighs only five grams more. They have also retained a comfortable, well-balanced fit that is not too loose to provide sufficient support when on the move but does not feel too tight and does not create a feeling of pressure. The headband size adjustment covers a wide range from petite to large heads, particularly since the tiltable and rotatable ear cups are highly adaptable. However, this model does have a chemical smell, but this largely disappears after a few days in the fresh air.

These Bluetooth headphones delivered strong results in our battery endurance test: while a listening time of 46 hours was achieved with active noise cancellation at a high volume, this increased to a good 56 hours without noise cancelling. The over-ears are fully charged via the USB-C port after one hour and 45 minutes. In addition, there is a quick-charge option available that offers battery capacity for a runtime of three hours in ANC mode and an additional 45 minutes without noise-cancelling after a power supply of five minutes. Just like with the Life Q30, there is a high-quality 3.5 mm audio input with Hi-Res Audio certification, which means that these headphones offer the alternative of being operated wired. For this purpose, a mini-jack cable with a 1-button remote and integrated microphone is included for use with mobile players such as Smartphones, tablets or HiRes players, while a USB-C to USB-A charging cable and aeroplane adapter and a transport case are also included in the package.

Device control

Pairing the Life Q35s, which support Bluetooth standard 5.0 and multi-pairing with two devices at once, can be done by holding down the power button on the left side of the headphones, which turns the system on and puts it into pairing mode. For NFC-compatible devices, pairing is also enabled by tapping the surface of the right ear cup. Once a wireless connection is established, the device can be controlled using three remote buttons, which are also located on the right-hand side of the cup. The smaller button, which is positioned at the bottom, controls playback and is used to answer and end phone calls while holding it down activates voice assistants. Two larger buttons are used for volume control, and they can also be used for track navigation, using the plus button to skip forward and the minus button to skip back. In addition, a sensor-based automatic start/stop function is included, and this reacts reliably and pauses playback when the headphones are taken off, and this can be switched on and off via the app.

When making calls, we noticed that your own voice is rendered in a somewhat choppy manner, which slightly limits speech intelligibility, while background noise is attenuated quite effectively, offering some advantages. The person on the other end of the line is perfectly understandable. The Bluetooth connection seemed very stable, with a high range of 13 metres within an urban environment.

App connection

In addition to ambient noise control and sound adjustment, the clearly organised Soundcore app offers a sleep mode with various ambient sounds. It is also possible to update these headphones via firmware updates. As well as the app, a widget can be set up, which allows you to select the ANC profile and switch between basic sound, transparency mode and noise cancelling.

Environmental noise & noise cancelling

Switching between basic sound, transparency mode and noise cancelling is done via a separate button on the left side of the headphones, and here you can use the app to set which of the three ANC profiles you want to use. There is also direct access to the ambient mode, which can be switched on and off at any time by briefly holding the touch-sensitive right ear cup surface. If this is active, outside noises are amplified via the microphones, which means that your surroundings can still be perceived up to a medium volume despite the high passive shielding of these over-ears and it is possible to react to your fellow human beings. The intelligibility of voices is also good, which makes conversation possible when playback is paused.

Noise cancelling can be adjusted to suit your environment via indoor, outdoor and traffic modes, each offering a noticeable attenuation of external noise. The traffic mode, which is intended for commuting and travelling, appears to be the most effective and significantly reduces the low to medium frequency spectrum. The indoor mode, on the other hand, primarily reduces voices and noises in the mid-frequency range, while the outdoor mode is designed to reduce street noise and wind noise. In both the transparency mode and the ANC profiles, there is a reduction in the bass range, which results in a brighter sound image and a slightly reduced playback volume. The ambient mode and the noise-cancelling are also available when using these headphones wired by switching through via the NC button in the same way as for Bluetooth operation.

Sound

In addition to the Bluetooth standard, the Life Q35s support the audio codecs SBC, the AAC format and the premium variant LDAC, while aptX codecs have been omitted. This is somewhat surprising as most Android devices can use neither LDAC nor AAC and therefore have to make do with the SBC codec. The rather bass-heavy basic tuning of these headphones also seems somewhat disappointing. The abundant low-frequency reproduction is not boomy but seems disproportionate and muffled, which results in a rather dull, lacklustre and closed sound image, especially with bass-orientated music, as the treble also lacks presence. Although there is no noticeable drop, the treble range is generally restrained, which is a shame, as there is neither a tendency to sibilance nor is there any harshness or sharpness. Voices, on the other hand, are very well reproduced, with a velvety warmth on the one hand, but precision and clarity on the other, resulting in good intelligibility.

In my opinion, the overemphasis in the bass range wastes a lot of sound potential, and this becomes clear as soon as you use the app’s extremely useful adjustment options. With the help of the decent 8-band equaliser, a much more balanced listening experience can easily be elicited from these headphones. Lowering the low-frequency range and raising the high-frequency range noticeably widens and opens up the sound, takes away the dullness and allows a wealth of detail to emerge. While I was not all that impressed by the basic sound, the Life Q35 turn out to be extremely versatile and adaptable, as the EQ settings are permanently stored on the over-ears. In addition to their own pre-sets, there is also a selection of more than 20 ready-made settings, which allow adaptation to different genres or influence the basic direction.

Visually, the Soundcore Life Q35 is hardly distinguishable from the predecessor model. Anker sent us the blue model for review, where you can also choose a pink variant. The only other changes are to the earpads and the included travel case which is now a little bit rounder.

Since Anker adopted the Life Q30’s earcups, I can tell you from hundreds of hours of user experience. The padding on the headband was adequate anyway, but it now seems a little firmer. The same goes for the padding on the earcups, which have also now received an additional seam.

I’m a headphone addict and have worn the Q35 for several days at a stretch. I never ran into any problems with pressure points, where the firmer pads make the fit just a little bit better. Also, handy would be the new wear detection feature, which lets us straight into the description of its controls.

New wear detection prevents button fumbling

One of my biggest gripes with both sets of headphones would be the buttons, which are nearly indistinguishable from each other. Even after months of use, I still haven’t figured out where the volume controls are, and constantly activate the voice assistant by accident instead of turning off the Life Q35.

If you connect two devices, you will also benefit from the multi-pairing feature. The headphones switch cleverly between both devices. During a workday, I usually connected my smartphone for music playback and to my notebook on which I work on.

Visually, Anker has only improved the Soundcore Life Q35 in the minutest of details. However, it’s the wear detection that makes life with the headphones much more enjoyable. Additionally, I’d nonetheless have been pleased to see the use of different shaped buttons. The new pads are cool too! Oh yes, and the name now finally rhymes!

Sound: Powerful and customizable

Now that we have already set up the Life Q35, we will check out the audio performance. Anker has not changed the sound components, but you can now use the lossless audio codec, «LDAC». However, this makes more sense when you are hooked to a premium music streaming service.

Anker relies on its 40 millimeter silk audio diaphragms, which were already used in the predecessor, in the Life Q35 as well. The frequency response is 16 Hz to 40 kHz. As for the output power of the individual drivers, unfortunately, Anker makes no statements. However, the manufacturer emphasizes the integration of the LDAC audio codec.

Premium streaming with Tidal & LDAC

Spotify’s premium quality manages a maximum of 320 kilobits per second, which is why I gunned for a trial subscription to Tidal. I was then able to activate LDAC in the audio settings of my Google Pixel 3 XL, allowing me to dive into whole new worlds of sound. That was the working theory, at least.

With premium music streaming, I think you get more immersion than anything else. The musicians are metaphorically on a wider stage around you, and you can make out the individual instruments a little better.

In Frank Zappa’s Inca Roads, for example, you can hear the tiniest vibrations of the vibraphone buzzing around you. Complex pieces like Chick Corea’s «Now He Sings, Now He Sobs» seem a little less overwhelming when the instruments resolve themselves in a subtle manner. But you won’t only notice these effects when streaming classic tunes by jazz geniuses in hi-fi.

The boost in sound quality is fun if you give the music a little bit more time. However, if you only listen to music on the side or on the go, the sound benefits tend to get lost due to ambient noise or other activities.

Customizable sound profiles

Before we dive right into exploring how the Soundcore Life Q35 can counteract ambient noise, I want to praise Soundcore’s app once again. David didn’t like the sound of the Life Q30 in his review until he adjusted the sound profile via its equalizers. And I would cite that as a positive with the successor as well.

Once again, you can choose from countless presets for different genres or scenarios. Additionally, you can create and save your own sound profiles. Since the Soundcore app can save its settings to individual accounts, you can easily transfer the sound profile of existing headphones to a different handset. Overall, this is very cool and highly customizable.

ANC & telephony: noise cancellation is still a weakness

Like most headphones released in 2020 and 2021, the Life Q35 offers ANC. The active noise cancellation works with anti-noise to minimize background noise. Anker did reposition the Life Q35’s microphones, but that upset call quality when one makes phone calls.

Since nothing has really changed with the ANC, I can refer to my previous experience here as well. Here I know that the Oppo Enco X and the Galaxy Buds Pro in-ear headphones can filter noise far more effectively. Especially the street traffic in noisy Berlin, which is nicely muted with ANC.

The Soundcore Life Q35 managed that as well, but it left some residual noise in the process. During a walk along a two-lane and especially wet street with a rattling tram, I regulated the ANC in the modes «Outdoor», «Indoor» and «Traffic», turned it off and also activated the transparency mode sometimes.

I couldn’t tell the difference between the different modes. However, the noise of the tires on the wet road is filtered out well, but sudden noises like a roaring engine still come through clearly to your ear. The transparency mode has become more effective in my opinion. It has a certain hearing aid effect where you can even hear the rustling of your clothes.

Reorientation of the microphones for phone calls only

It’s a bit of a shame that Anker has made some changes to the Life Q35’s microphones. During calls, you benefit from a realignment, where artificial intelligence should be able to filter out noise better. A quick comparison on the PC with the Audacity tool shows that something has really changed.

Knocking on the headphones is filtered out almost 100% on the successor model. This is quite impressive, however, I no longer like the sound of my voice on the Q35. There is a lack of bass and the quality is still quite inadequate. When you’re on the phone, though, it’s all about clarity, and this is where the person you’re talking to can look forward to an upgrade.

Battery life: Once again hardly beatable

Anker has made a name for itself as a manufacturer of power banks and other battery-based devices. As with the Soundcore Liberty Air 2 Pro in-ear headphones, the battery life claim comes across as surprising at first but is then confirmed upon use. In other words, you can listen to music for up to 60 hours with the Soundcore Life Q35. A strong performance, indeed!

With ANC enabled, you can keep the Anker Soundcore Life Q35 on your ears for 40 hours non-stop. If you move around in a quiet environment for 60 hours, the battery life can also be extended to that period without ANC enabled. I can cheerfully confirm the manufacturer’s claims after many days of use with its predecessor.

As before, the Quick Charging feature is also on board, which comes in as really handy. You charge the headphones for five minutes and that will net you another four more hours of listening time. There’s not much more to say about the battery life, except to point out the irritating nagging computer voice. If the battery starts to run low, you’ll hear «Battery Low» a little bit too regularly for my liking.

As an alternative to Bluetooth, you’ll find a 3.5 millimeter jack located on the right ear cup. Unlike my Marshall Major III, this only works when the headphones are turned on. Unfortunately, you can’t use the Life Q35 as wired headphones on an empty battery.

When it comes to battery life, hardly anyone can beat Anker. Having Bluetooth headphones with a maximum battery life of 60 hours is super convenient. Especially since you can charge the wearable via any USB-C charger and gain four more hours of listening time in just five minutes thanks to Quick Charging.

Conclusion: You didn’t have to, Anker

The Soundcore Life Q35 is once again, a pair of very good over-ear headphones that is positioned in the lower price range. As with the predecessor, I’m impressed with how good the affordable Soundcore drivers sound. What’s more, the battery life is even better than that of far more expensive models. However, the Q35s are still inferior to these when it comes to ANC capability.

Anker Soundcore Life Q35 review: budget headphones with good noise-cancelling

Long battery life, comfortable fit, Bluetooth 5 with decent sound and features for the money

The latest Bluetooth headphones from Anker offer very long battery life and surprisingly effective noise-cancelling on a budget.

The Soundcore Life Q35 cost £129.99 and replace the Life Q30 as the brand’s top headphones, significantly undercutting leading models from rivals that often cost in excess of £300.

They are fairly bulky compared with some of the best but don’t look ostentatious and are fairly light. The faux leather ear cups are spacious, with a good amount of padding, and don’t clamp your head too hard, while the headband stays well put on your dome. The headphones have enough adjustment to wear comfortably for extended listening periods, feel solidly made and fold up for travel, too.

The Chinese firm Anker, set up by a former Google engineer, originally made its name with high-quality, low-cost portable charging equipment. It has since expanded into other consumer electronics categories, including audio gear under the Soundcore brand, offering a similar level of bang for buck and winning fans by undercutting the competition while maintaining higher than expected quality and good customer service.

The Q35 are Bluetooth 5 headphones supporting the universal SBC and AAC audio standards used by most devices. They also support the high-resolution LDAC format that can be used with most Android devices for higher-quality listening that is usually the reserve of significantly more expensive headphones. They can connect to two devices at once so that, for example, you can answer a call on your phone with them if you’re watching videos on a tablet without having to disconnect first. They also have a standard 3.5mm socket for cabled use.

Their Bluetooth range and stability was excellent with a variety of devices, including Android and Apple smartphones and tablets. Call quality of the microphone was good in quiet environments and did a reasonable job of blocking out background noise – but at the expense of picking up my own voice, meaning I had to speak quite loudly to be clearly heard.

The right ear cup has a pause/play button, which you hold to summon your phone’s voice assistant, and volume up and down buttons. Pressing and holding the volume buttons skip tracks, too, which is unusual for headphone controls but works fine. Take the headphones off and the music will pause; put them back on and it will start again.

The left ear cup has a button for toggling between noise-cancelling and transparency modes, a power button and a USB-C charging port.

The Soundcore app for Android or iPhone is very good, taking care of updates, adjusting settings, sound and noise-cancelling modes.

The noise-cancelling is surprisingly effective for the money, beating the majority of rivals at this price and even some models twice their cost. The noise of a boiler, dishwasher, cars, drills and other rumbling noises were much reduced, while speech was quietened significantly. They can’t quite match the very best in the business from Bose and Sony but otherwise do a very good job, particularly set to the “transport” mode with the Soundcore app.

They also have a transparency mode, which pipes the sounds around you into the headphones and can be triggered quickly for listening out for announcements. It doesn’t sound very natural but gets the job done. Hold your hand on the touch-sensitive surface of the right ear cup or by pressing the ANC button for one second to toggle it on or off.

The Q35 also sound good for the money, with reasonable detail and separation of tones, handling complex pieces better than most competitors, particularly when used with the highest-quality LDAC format and some hi-res audio files.

By default, they have an energised, bass-heavy sound, which will suit pop and electronic music but can override detail in more subtle tracks. There are lots of presets and a full equaliser in the Soundcore app for tweaking the sound to your liking.

However, as with many rivals at this price, the sound is significantly affected by the noise-cancelling. What sounds good and punchy with noise-cancelling active sounds totally overridden by baggy, uncontrolled bass when it is turned off and different again with the transparency mode activated. I recommend never turning the noise-cancelling off, although this will drain the battery quicker, or using the bass-reducer preset if you do.

The headphones have very long battery life lasting just shy of 40 hours between charges with noise-cancelling active, which is 10 more than even Sony’s excellent WH-1000XM4. Turn off noise-cancelling and they will last up to 60 hours.

Sustainability

Anker estimates that the battery will last in excess of 500 full charge cycles while maintaining at least 80% of its original capacity but it is not replaceable, ultimately making the headphones disposable.

Anker has made a name for itself in various affordable consumer electronics markets. Under the Soundcore name, the company is now attempting a coup in the audio industry with premium features at a fraction of the cost of the competition. The Anker Soundcore Life Q35 is the company’s latest pair of flagship over-ear headphones, and seemingly attempts to pack as many features as possible into a sub-$200 headphone.

Let’s see if the quality holds up to the competition, or if your money is better spent elsewhere.

What is it like to use the Anker Soundcore Life Q35?

Anker clearly prioritizes function over form with the Anker Soundcore Life Q35, with a focus on travel and portability. These headphones swivel and fold into the included hardshell protective case, which also stores a pouch for the USB-C charging cable, 3.5mm cord, and an airplane adapter.

Built from a plastic construction, the Anker Soundcore Life Q35 isn’t rated for any level of sweat or water-proofing. While it doesn’t feel like it’s going to fall apart anytime soon, the headset isn’t nearly as sturdy as ones with some level of metal construction. Don’t expect it to last forever if you are tossing it around your backpack every day.

The memory foam ear pads aren’t as thick as other headphones we’ve tested, and combined with a strong clamping force, they can make wearing the Life Q35 uncomfortable over time. The ear pads don’t breathe particularly well, resulting in warm ears even in an office setting. You won’t want to wear them for too long on a hot summer day.

One of the most useful features of the headset is the auto-play/pause function, which detects whether or not the headphones are being worn. This feature has appeared on premium headphones like the Sony WH-1000XM4, but it’s rare at this price.

Is the Soundcore app any good?

The Soundcore app offers a premium experience that elevates the Anker Soundcore Life Q35 above many other Bluetooth headphones in this price range. Upon downloading it, you’ll get a prompt to update to version 1.20, which adds improvements to LDAC performance, EQ, call quality, and smart-wearing detection. Having an app that pushes firmware updates such as this one is critical for performance improvements and device longevity.

Firmware updates appear right when the Soundcore app is opened.

Users can define the sound of the Life Q35 headphones with a custom EQ.

Anker includes preset EQ settings for various genres and listening preferences.

The Soundcore app features an equalizer within the device settings, which lets you set a custom EQ profile, or select from several Soundcore presets for various genres and listening preferences. The app also comes with a free music streaming service courtesy of Lüm, with tons of playlists to test out headphone settings. There’s even a sleep mode that can play ambient nature sounds for a set period of time.

As with most software, Anker collects data through the Soundcore app. The Soundcore privacy policy may be worth a read, especially concerning voice data collection and third-party integrations.

How well does the Anker Soundcore Life Q35 cancel noise?

With a bevy of noise cancelling modes and features, the Anker Soundcore Life Q35 can adapt to nearly any environment. A single button on the back of the left ear cup switches between passive isolation, active noise cancellation (ANC), and transparency modes. Without ANC turned on, the tight seal with the clamping force of the headphones blocks out most high-frequency sounds above 1kHz.

Turning on ANC attenuates most ambient sounds below 1kHz reducing them to one-half or one-quarter loudness. This is adequate performance for over-ear noise cancelling headphones, but it doesn’t quite compete with top performers in the category such as the Monoprice BT-600ANC.

Within the Soundcore app, there is an option to select between transport, indoor, and outdoor active noise cancellation modes. Each mode has a different amount of noise cancellation at different frequencies, based on what Anker feels is important for a given setting, which you can view here. The “outdoor” mode has the strongest active noise cancellation and most listeners are bound to prefer this.

The transparency mode works great for hearing surroundings. The tap-to-talk feature quickly activates transparency mode for a conversation by simply holding the right ear cup for one second.

What Bluetooth codecs does the Anker Soundcore Life Q35 support?

The Life Q35 uses the Bluetooth 5.0 with support for SBC, AAC, and LDAC, Sony’s lossless Bluetooth codec that is theoretically capable of up to 990kbps, along with 24-bit/96kHz Hi-Res playback. Any device running Android 8.0 or later supports LDAC, though you can manually switch to SBC or AAC in your Android phone’s developer settings.

It is quick and easy to pair the headphones to multiple devices, although audio can only be played back from one source at a time. Anker included NFC pairing inside the headphone, so all it takes is a single tap to pair to Android phones.

For assistance with the pairing process, download the Soundcore app on the device you are trying to pair to. The Anker Soundcore Life Q35 automatically enters pairing mode when you power it on. Simply find the headphones in your Bluetooth settings.

After connecting to the first device, double press the power button on the Anker Soundcore Life Q35 to manually re-enter pairing mode, then look for the headset in your Bluetooth device settings.

I am wondering how this product is getting such a good rating. ANC, bass, treble, connectivity, everything sucks except the case. Even the company is unethical, which has mentioned that a user can return the product on the product card. However, this is not the case; the Indian seller refused to return. Maybe this discrimination is against Indian customers. Even the headphones, 4-5 cheaper than this, work better. The worst thing is that they have a 30 days refund policy only on paper. However, their support manager Shane is fooled and refuses a refund. A highly unprofessional and unethical company. How can people compare this piece of shit with Sony WF-1000XM4 and XM3? CONS: * Poor ANC makes background noise bass-rich and more annoying. I think the company doesn’t know what noise cancellation is. * Frequent sound disconnections * Impossible to connect with the app * Not possible to connect two devices * Sound settings only work on mobile devices. Полноразмерные беспроводные наушники Soundcore Life Q35 оснащены динамиками, которые производитель назвал «золотым стандартом звука» за их шелковые диафрагмы. Новинка воспроизводит диапазон 16 Гц — 40 кГц и сертифицирована для Hi-Res Audio и Hi-Res Audio Wireless. За качество беспроводной передачи отвечает Bluetooth-технология LDAC.

NFC-сопряжение ускорит подключение наушников к смартфону — достаточно прикоснуться им к одной из чашек. Life Q35 поддерживают одновременное сопряжение с двумя устройствами. Для точной передачи голоса и комфортной связи использован принцип работы микрофонов с формированием луча. Его дополнит обработка, в которой, по данным Soundcore, применили искусственный интеллект.

Многорежимное шумоподавление (в транспорте, на улице и в помещении) использует по два микрофона на каждой чашке. Когда понадобится с кем-то поговорить или просто прислушаться — пригодится режим прозрачности.

Встроенный датчик определит, на голове ли наушники — для приостановки или возобновления воспроизведения. Фирменное приложение Soundcore позволит настроить звучание — доступны 22 предустановки эквалайзера. Здесь же можно настроить шумоподавление, используя белый шум.

Бортовой аккумулятор емкостью 720 мАч обеспечит Life Q35 до 40 часов воспроизведения с включенным ANC (без него — все 60). Пять минут зарядки добавят еще 4 часа работы. При этом, по заверениям производителя, наушники получились комфортными благодаря небольшому весу и наполнителю из пеноматериала с эффектом памяти в амбушюрах и оголовье.

Наушники Soundcore Life Q35 в комплекте с дорожным футляром обойдутся в США в 130 долларов.

Anker Soundcore Life Q35 are an upgraded Life Q30 with an extra LDAC codec, different earpads, carrying case, and a marginally better default tuning.

Visually, the Soundcore Life Q35 and Life Q30 are identical. The only difference is in slightly different earpads and the color. The new Q35 come in obsidian blue instead of black.

Even internally, not much has changed. Both share the same decent ANC and transparency mode performance and exceptional Bluetooth range and battery life.

That being said, a couple of things are indeed different. The Soundcore Life Q35 support both hi-res audio and LDAC Bluetooth codec and have a slightly flatter tuning.

However, despite that, the sound is still overly bassy and a tad too bright. And the worst thing is that you can’t fully correct it inside the Soundcore app.

Sound

The new high-res model offers a very precise sound but only after some EQ tweaks. However, even after that, they can still sound a bit harsh on certain songs.

Anker Soundcore Life Q35 Sound Test

The idea behind Anker Soundcore Life Q35 is that they offer hi-res audio for pristine sound quality. However, high-res audio is only a marketing term for a wider frequency range and nothing else.

While they have a better default sound profile than the Anker Soundcore Life Q30, they still suffer from overpowering bass and a dip around 3.2kHz. Therefore, it’s advisable to apply your own EQ settings.

Strangely, while our measurements show a big difference in sub-bass between ANC on and ANC off, in practice, both modes sound pretty much the same.

Anker Soundcore Life Q35 Frequency Response

Out of the box, the bass is on the boomy side. It’s less so than the Q30, but it still muddies the midrange and lacks control for genres like metal or punk. Drums sound big but mushed together.

You can’t make it sound neutral, though. The bass quantity is still above ideal, but at least it’s much better than before.

Midrange

The mids are relatively balanced but with a few peaks and dips, the most significant at 3.2kHz (as you can see from the graph below).

While you can tweak the midrange to sound somewhat neutral, the graphic EQ isn’t precise enough, so it also boosts other unwanted frequencies.

Consequently, there’s some harshness present when listening to specific songs. I’ve noticed it throughout the song “Emotion Detector” from Rush.

The same song on the Life Q30 sounded smoother and more bearable in comparison.

Treble

Cymbal crashes are nice and clean and have a good texture. There’s a decent sense of air, although not as much as with the Q30 or even Anker Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro.

The soundstage is open, so you don’t feel congested, which is standard for closed-back headphones.

The imaging is decent, but there are some blurry spots between the center and left/right image.

As a whole, Anker Soundcore Life Q35 provide an almost identical sound quality to the Life Q30. However, they sound slightly harsher in comparison, which could be bothersome to some users.

Though, unless you want to blast them on the highest volume, they are great for all kinds of music genres.

Also, due to the bass boost, they aren’t the best option for critical listening or hardcore audiophiles but cater to a casual consumer who likes a bit more bump.

There’s also a difference between wireless and wired mode. The latter sounds more natural in the mids and less bassy.

Comfort & Fit

Sufficiently thick and soft earpads provide excellent comfort, while a moderate clamping force prevents headphones from falling off your head.

The new Anker Soundcore Life Q35 have ever so slightly thicker earpads than the Life Q30.

Memory foam padded earcups feel a bit stiffer in comparison but offer the same comfort level.

Thanks to the over-ear design, headphones don’t squeeze your ears, which is essential for long-lasting comfort.

The top of the headband is also nicely padded with a thick piece of memory foam.

Headphones can fold and lay flat down to save space in your backpack.

Since headphones are mostly plastic (apart from an aluminum headband), you don’t feel their weight pushing down on your head.

Furthermore, the clamping force is strong enough to keep the over-ear headphones in place but not too strong to cause headaches.

They will stay on your head during regular use and can even endure some sprinting when trying to catch a bus.

In contrast, if you like to clumsily hit things when listening to music, pick one of the most durable earbuds instead.

Durability

Headphones feel pretty solid in hand, despite making slight rattling noises when shaken. They come with a hard-shell case with a suede finish.

The headphones are mostly plastic, apart from the aluminum headband. The latter is exposed and gives the premium headphones a shiny look.

The folding hinges on Anker Soundcore Life Q35.

Earcups can fold inward to save space and rotate for 90°, so you can lay them flat on your chest or desk.

Hinges are also plastic but look reinforced, so they shouldn’t break with proper care.

The new leatherette earpads are slightly stiffer than the ones from the Life Q30 model. Not sure why they have extra stitching, but they should last you for at least a couple of years. If you learn how to keep your headphones clean.

Anker Soundcore Life Q35 also come with a hard-shell carrying case. It’s the same as the one for the Q30 but with a soft finish that resembles suede.

The only difference between the Q30 case (right) and the Q35 case (left) is that the latter has a suede finish.

Also, the “new” case lacks a piece of foam for the headband to rest on.

Battery

With up to 60 hours on a single charge (35 hours if you enable ANC), the Anker Soundcore Life Q35 are hard to beat. On top of that, the fast charging feature is super quick.

If you need a reliable and long battery life, Anker Soundcore Life Q35 are one of the best on the market.

On their own, they last for 60 hours of playtime, which is two and a half days of constant playing.

Of course, active noise cancellation does take its toll, reducing the battery life to 35 hours on a single charge (35 hours and 5 minutes in our test).

The latter is still impressive and much better than the competition.

Headphones charge via a USB type C port and support fast charging.

If you end up with an empty battery, headphones also support an AUX connection for wired mode. The audio cable with a 3.5mm jack comes in the box.

Features

Anker Soundcore Life Q35 offer a good selection of features and reliable controls that help you enjoy the experience. Headphones also sport smart wearing detection.

As it’s suitable for more expensive products, you get a good selection of features, from multi-mode noise cancelling (with 3 separate modes) to ambient sound mode.

Additionally, headphones also come with the Soundcore app. From there, you can update firmware, tweak custom EQ or select from built-in preset EQ settings (listening modes), or play with Sleeping mode.

The latter is a sound generator, where you select the sound (birds chipping, sea waves, wind, rain) and its intensity.

That supposedly helps you fall asleep if you live in a noisy area or want to take a nap on your travel.

A built-in sensor detects when you take your headphones off and automatically play/pause the music playback.

The detachable cable that comes with Anker Soundcore Life Q35 has a remote button and built-in mic.

Moving to controls, they primarily consist of physical ones. There are dedicated on/off, ANC, volume up and down, and play/pause buttons.

A touch-sensitive area on the right ear cup enables transparency mode if you touch it for 1 second. Sadly, you can’t remap the command; you can only disable it.

Microphone Quality

Surprisingly, the Soundcore Life Q35 offer a worse call quality than the cheaper Life Q30 model.

The call quality from the beamforming microphones is passable in a quiet room. Phone calls sound crisp and clean. There are some popping sounds, though, which hurts the overall clarity.

Adding distracting noises into the mix only makes matters worse. Your voice gets muffled to a point where it’s hard to understand. It seems headphones are using overly aggressive ANC, which also reduces vocals.

Therefore, it isn’t advisable to use Anker Soundcore Life Q35 for anything but quick replies.

Noise Isolation

Passive noise isolation is good enough to muffle down most annoying sounds that would interfere with your music, but don’t expect a night and day difference.

The new earpads don’t do much to improve the overall passive isolation from unwanted noise. It’s practically identical to the Q30.

Of course, that means it’s sufficient enough to reduce background noise to a point where it no longer mixes with your music.

The hard-shell carrying case protects the headphones during transport and accidental drops.

You can listen to your favorite tunes on a bus without needing to turn on the active noise cancellation. Be aware that there’s some sound leakage when listening to music at a high volume.

The latter becomes useful when you’re in a really noisy environment, where passive isolation simply isn’t enough.

Noise Cancelling

While headphones can block most low-end frequencies, they let too much higher frequencies pass through. They’re pretty average for the price.

Like most things, the active noise cancelling performance is the same as the Q30. It does a great job with lower frequencies, blocking them almost entirely.

However, they’re struggling with mid and high frequencies. The overall traffic noise reduction isn’t bad, but you still hear a shimmer coming from tires.

From 3 available noise cancelling modes (Transport, Indoor, Outdoor), the first one is the strongest and, therefore, the best option.

There’s no adaptive ANC feature for tailored noise cancelling experience like with Anker premium true wireless earbuds, the Anker Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro.

Overall, while I understand that the Life Q30 don’t have an excellent ANC for their price, it’s harder to swallow the same kind of average performance from Anker Soundcore Life Q35.

Even the ambient sound mode, which boosts the surrounding noise, is uninspiring. It focuses primarily on vocals but forgets the lower end, making the sound thin and hollow.

Bluetooth

Simply spotless Bluetooth connection without stutters, even when using the LDAC codec. There’s no lag during videos, but you might see some in mobile games.

Anker Soundcore Life Q35 offer a complete experience for Bluetooth connectivity.

Usually, headphones’ connection range suffers when using the LDAC Bluetooth codec. However, not with the Soundcore Life Q35.

They maintained a stable connection throughout the house, lasting for more than 65 feet and 2 brick walls in between.

You can easily leave your smartphone on a desk and walk around your house with headphones on.

How to pair the Soundcore Life Q35?

Also, Anker Soundcore Life Q35 support multipoint. They can connect to 2 devices simultaneously, so you can seamlessly switch between them.

The exposed aluminum headband provides sturdiness and shiny looks.

You get support for NFC pairing by simply tapping your smartphone against the right earcup.

But, since the standard pairing process is so simple, hardly anyone will use the NFC method.

What Bluetooth Codecs Do They Use?

Headphones use standard SBC, an Apple-friendly AAC, and an LDAC for high-resolution audio streaming. It also covers a wide frequency range (16-40.000Hz instead of 20-20.000Hz).

Note that the LDAC codec only works on an Android phone.

Is There an Audio Lag?

When watching YouTube, the audio is perfectly in sync with the video. That’s even when you use LDAC, which is heavier on the bandwidth and usually causes a noticeable delay.

Even mobile games are playable with LDAC, although the lag is noticeable. Therefore, these headphones aren’t suitable for users who demand zero-latency audio.

Should You Get Anker Soundcore Life Q35?

That’s because you get an almost identical product but with a few additions like LDAC support, different feeling carrying case, and slightly different tuning.

While the latter is more palatable out of the box, it’s also harsher when trying to achieve the neutral sound in EQ.

The leatherette earpads appear stiffer than the ones on the Q30 but equally comfy, nevertheless.

Of course, headphones retain the same brilliant battery life and Bluetooth capabilities, but they also share the average active noise cancellation and transparency mode as the Q30.
