Хиатус Миуры. Почему так много и долго?
Хиатус — это перерыв между выходом глав.
Думаю, что многие подписчики уже знакомы со словом «хиатус» не понаслышке: каждый фанат манги «Берсерк» (или любой другой манги с «ленивым» мангакой), рано или поздно, познает на себе все тяготы ожидания продолжения.
Сейчас, на момент написания этой статьи, мы находимся в одном из самых длительных хиатусов за всю историю манги «Берсерк», сроки которого уже превышают стандартные для Кэнтаро Миуры 6 месяцев. Более того, данный перерыв начался практически сразу после исторического события — возвращение Каски спустя 21 год (реального времени) забвения, в то время как Миура даже не показал её долгожданное воссоединение с Гатсом, оборвав повествование грубым клиффхээнгером. 24 марта наступит ровно год с того момента.
Клиффхэнгер — идиома, означающая захватывающий сюжетный поворот с неопределённым исходом, задуманный так, чтобы зацепить зрителя/читателя и заставить его волноваться в ожидании развязки.
Не удивительно, что такие жесткие перерывы между главами (да еще и в такие моменты) вызывают у фанатов боль ниже спины и вопросы.
Так почему Миура стал отдыхать так часто и график выпуска манги так замедлился за последние 10 лет? Ну… никто (кроме самого маэстро) не знает наверняка. Однако, на основе информации, которая у нас есть, мы можем сформировать более-менее логическое объяснение даже для такого феномена, как «хиатус Миуры». Это я и попытаюсь сделать в данной статье.
1990-е.
Первый звоночек: комикс о личной жизни и её проблемах.
Мало кто знает, но в 90-х Миура нарисовал комикс, где изобразив себя в любимом моэ-стиле, жалуется на свои личные проблемы персонажу своей же манги — Паку.
Вопрос: Не могли бы Вы описать график дня работы в своей студии? Как много часов в день Вы работаете?
Миура: «Я начинаю работать в 14:00 и заканчиваю в 7:00. Конечно, время потраченное на еду сюда включено. Я работаю 15-16 часов ежедневно, без выходных».

Как видите, жизнь мангаки — не сладкая штука. И это еще поверхностное умозаключение, а если изучать эту тему подробно, то волосы дыбом встают от того, какие же всё-таки работящие эти японцы.
Крайне рекомендую посмотреть цикл передач Urasawa Naoki no Manben (версия с русабами существует, но её нужно поискать), который подробно рассказывает о жизни и работе мангак.
Стоит спросить себя: «а смог бы я также?». Неудивительно, что даже японцы выгорают с такими, как сейчас модно говорить, кранчами.
Сверхчеловеческие нагрузки, минимум свободного времени и личной жизни — вот мир мангаки в Японии. Миура не был исключением из этого правила, до определенного момента.
2006 год.
Хиатус: Начало.
С 1993 года хиатусы в графике выпуска манги «Берсерк» были коротким и довольно редким явлением — от 1 до 4 перерывов в год, длительностью всего несколько недель, максимум — месяц.
В 2006 году всё изменилось. Тогда Миура работал над «Битвой при Вританнисе» (главы 279-285), огромным сюжетом эпичного сражения кушан и тюдор, где буквально каждый фрейм пестрил невероятным количеством проработанных деталей. Именно тогда, сразу после выпуска 279 главы, последовал первый исторический перерыв Миуры — 3 месячный хиатус конца 2006 года.
Миура признался, что создание «Битвы при Вританнисе» потребовало очень много времени и изрядно вымотало его, хоть он и давал противоречивый этому комментарий позднее, говоря, что «не было конкретной части манги, которая была особенно трудна для меня».
Миура ещё не раз будет противоречить самому себе, отвечая на личные вопросы. Думаю, что он не хочет говорить о своих проблемах и пытается не драматизировать, хоть и очевидно, что «Битва при Вританнисе» — это тот самый переломный момент, который навсегда изменил некогда трудоголика японского происхождения Кэнтаро Миуру, заставив его пересмотреть приоритеты своей жизни.
После «Битвы при Вританнисе» хиатусы стали происходить чаще и длиться дольше.
Вопрос: Ощущаете ли Вы удовлетворение от того, чего достигли за все эти годы? Стоило ли жертвовать своей жизнью и здоровьем?
Миура: «Да, я чувствую удовлетворение, так как моя работа с течением времени всё больше ценится в обществе.

2008 год. В ответах на вопросы из журнала Young Animal, Миура поведал фанатам, что купил себе новую игру из серии The iDOLM@STER. Выпуск этот вышел прямо перед очередным перерывом, а несколько японских изданий даже опубликовали новости в духе: «Кэнтаро Миура предпочитает The iDOLM@STER своей собственной манге». 10 Times A Manga Went On Hiatus (& Why)
Regardless of the reason, hiatuses are common in the manga & anime industry.
Writing manga is no easy task, and few authors work solo, especially where traditional publication is involved. Even so, anime fans often feel frustrated when a beloved manga announces an extensive or indefinite hiatus.
The reasons for hiatuses are myriad and complex, but often the reason for taking some time off comes down to the wellbeing of a creator, a manga’s failure to reach an audience, or concerns about the quality of the work. Hiatuses are a necessary part of the business, and fans must remember that being a mangaka is still a job and they sometimes need time away from work. No one can work forever, and overwork leads to disaster. Hiatuses will always be a part of the manga landscape.
10 Hunter X Hunter Is Nicknamed Hiatus X Hiatus
Fans of Hunter x Hunter are used to a shared sense of perpetual anticipation. The shonen hit has a notoriously patchy publication history, and it’s not due to lack of popularity. Since 2006, the series has been on hiatus more than it has been in publication. While so much waiting can be disappointing, some fans have made unkind assumptions about the frequent breaks.
Author Yoshihiro Togashi is often accused of being unmotivated because he and his wife, Sailor Moon mangaka Naoko Takeuchi, are established, successful authors who need neither money nor fame. Yet this disregards Togashi’s chronic back pain issues and his admission of mental health issues as well. Chronic pain is no joke, and while possibly Togashi could take shortcuts, hiring other artists to assist him, he wants to retain full control of his story.
9 The Ancient Magus’ Bride Felt COVID’s Impact
It’s hard to think of any industry that hasn’t been impacted by COVID-19. While in America, glimpses of normality have gradually begun to return thanks to the recent vaccine rollout, that is not the case universally. In Japan, a state of emergency was declared in January and has been intermittently reinstated in the months since.
Given this, it wasn’t surprising that author Kore Yamazaki announced that The Ancient Magus’ Bride would be going on hiatus in February and March of 2021. Fans, initially fearing that Yamazaki might have fallen ill, were reassured that she was instead working with her publishers to establish a better production process. Given the constant state of flux the modern world must contend with, it’s not surprising. As promised, chapter 75 was published by Comic Garden again in April 2021.
8 One-Punch Man Has Gotten Stuck In The Mud
One-Punch Man has one of the most unique production histories of any modern manga. Author ONE began self-publishing the superhero gag manga as a webcomic in 2009 which was later remade and published online in Shueisha’s Tonari no Young Jump with a new illustrator attached.
The anime adaptation ensured a slew of new fans embraced the series, but in the years since One-Punch Man received more official publication, the process has been bumpy. Illustrator Yusuke Murata has been fixated on redrawing chapters that were published long ago, and neither creator has been producing new material in recent months. Fans waiting for the story to actually proceed may be waiting a long time.
7 One Piece Didn’t Take A Month Off Until 2010
It was big news the first time One Piece went on an extended hiatus, mostly because Eichiro Oda was seen as a dedicated manga machine. Still, no one can work without a vacation for decades. In 2010, the manga, which had only ever taken single weeks off at a time, announced it would go on a one-month hiatus for the first time.
In true Oda fashion, however, there could not have a more fitting time for an extended break. The break marked a time-skip in the manga, and possibly the halfway point of the series. If there was ever a time for Oda to take a vacation, it was right then.
6 Made In Abyss Has A Deliberately Patchy History
The rise in new publishing methods and the diversification of the manga market have helped the industry in countless ways. Among them, the mangaka who choose less traditional publishing routes finds themselves at greater liberty when it comes to scheduling. One author who has embraced the hiatus in all its glory is Akihito Tsukushi, author of Made In Abyss, who produces just enough material a year for a single tankobon volume.
The manga took five straight months off in 2019 and did the same in 2020. Because Made in Abyss is published digitally via Web Comic Gamma, the author has more freedom to set their own schedule. This ensures that the author lives a healthy life and produces precisely the story they intend to.
5 Nana May Have Said Enough
Nana is a brilliant piece of fiction because it is unafraid. It tackles serious topics that even josei doesn’t often touch upon, ranging from drug abuse to unwanted pregnancy and the trials and pitfalls of a failed dream. Nana has a special place in the manga canon, and author Ai Yazawa is a favorite among favorites.
In 2009, Ai Yazawa fell gravely ill and spent months in recovery. Initially, her publishers suggested the hiatus was temporary, but more than a decade has passed without a new chapter. For the most part, fans have abandoned hope that the series will continue, but Ai Yazawa still says «eventually» in interviews.
4 One Of Noragami’s Creators Is Coping With Health Issues
Noragami is something of a sore spot for shonen fans. The series is one of the best to air in the past decade, but the second season left fans hanging in 2015. The manga has devoted readers but whispers of a third season have become increasingly more desperate. In 2017, the situation became remarkably more hopeless as the series went on hiatus for fourteen months straight. Adachitoka took an extended break due to severe health issues, though details have been sparse. As Adachitoka is a two-person team, it’s not even clear which author was suffering. When the manga returned in 2018, fans breathed a collective sigh of relief.
3 Arakawa’s Family Takes Priority Over The Gin No Saji Series
Hiromu Arakawa firmly established her place in otaku history with Fullmetal Alchemist, still widely considered the best shonen series of all time. Fans curious about what Arakawa would turn her hand to next didn’t have to wait long, as Gin No Saji, a series about attending agricultural school in Hokkaido, began serialization within a year of Fullmetal Alchemist ending.
The manga received a solid anime adaptation and its share of accolades but fell in 2015 by the wayside. Fans thought perhaps Arakawa was preoccupied with other work, such as Arslan, but learned otherwise in 2019. Arakawa added a note to one of the final chapters of Gin No Saji stating her husband and child were dealing with incurable illnesses. Fans can only wish them all the best.
2 CLAMP Has A Reputation With Multiple Series
CLAMP has been making significant waves in both manga and anime since the 1980s. The all-women mangaka team is responsible for classics such as Cardcaptor Sakura and Chobits, and had a hand in helping shows like Code Geass with character design. And yet, CLAMP is also known for being remarkably inconsistent. Numerous CLAMP manga have gone on hiatus without ever receiving proper endings.
In 1999, Clover went on indefinite hiatus after the magazine that published it collapsed. X/1999 went on hiatus in 2003, citing concerns that the tone was too dark for the modern world, and XXXholic Rei, the sequel to XXXholic, went on hiatus in 2017 and has yet to return. This is a pattern that seems likely to continue, much to the eternal frustration of CLAMP readers.
1 Berserk’s Hiatuses Were Due To Kentaro Miura’s Health Complications
The recent passing of Kentaro Miura devastated the otaku community worldwide. Berserk has long been considered one of the best manga of all time and a phenomenal fantasy epic by any standard.
For years, rumors that Miura had lost interest in the project in favor of an idol series. Now, given the clear escalation of the hiatuses, fans are left wondering how long the beloved mangaka may have been privately unwell. The longest Beserk hiatus lasted 67 weeks, spanning from 2012 to 2014.

Хиатус и дифтонг
Хиатус, или зияние, образуется при сочетании нескольких рядом расположенных гласных, без промежуточного согласного. Фонетическое явление, при котором в одном слоге сочетаются два смежных гласных звука, называется «дифтонг». В отличие от дифтонга, при котором гласные произносятся слитно, в хиатусе гласные звуки произносятся раздельно и отчётливо, т. е. стечение гласных звуков не влияет на качество каждого из них.
Происхождение
Термин «хиатус» было заимствовано с латинского hiatus и употребляется как синоним русского лингвистического термина «зияние». В античном стихе с хиатусом отождествляется диереза – фонетическое явление, которое заключается в раздельном произношении крайних гласных звуков в словах, без использования элизии. Диереза, как и хиатус, зачастую применяется в поэзии для сохранения метра стиха, т. е. с целью соблюдения ритмического ударения, на которое приходится одна из смежных гласных.
Противоположный диерезе процесс, в котором два смежных гласных произносится слитно, называется «синереза». В греческой и латинской поэзии непреднамеренный хиатус обычно избегали, хотя его примеры встречаются у многих авторов, в частности у Гомера. В русской поэзии хиатус используется как стилистический приём фонетического характера для усиления выразительности художественной речи, акцентирования отдельных выражений. Стилистический приём хиатуса применяли русские поэты: А. С. Пушкин, М. Ю. Лермонтов, Ф. И. Тютчев, А. А. Блок, Д. Д. Минаев, А. Н. Майков, К. Н. Батюшков, Е. А. Баратынский, И. Л. Сельвинский, О. Э. Мандельштам и др.
Современное значение
Термин «хиатус» в современном понимании применяется к лингвистическому явлению, в котором гласные звуки произносятся раздельно. Устной речи, стремящейся к ритмичности и краткости высказывания, этот процесс не характерный. Исключения представляют собой публичные выступления ораторов, которые произносят гласные в словах обособленно, следуя правилам диерезы.

Now if you’re new to the term hiatus, let us here at Honey’s Anime explain it quickly. A hiatus essentially means a break from a series for an unknown amount of time. This can be caused by a mangaka needing a break, getting ill and or issues with the popularity of the manga. There is a slew of problems that could arise and cause a hiatus to befall our favorite manga series. Today we have crafted a list of the Top 10 Manga on Hiatus at the moment. Let us show you beautiful souls some of our favorite—and others as well—manga that currently are on hiatus.
For many, cats tend to be lucky creatures. However, for Junpei Kosaka cats are the bane of his existence. The reason for his dislike of cats is due to an extreme allergy Junepi has when even near a cat. One day on his way home, Junpei angers a cat god by knocking over a shrine and is cursed. If Junpei doesn’t save 100 cats then he will turn into one of them and equally will find himself possibly dying from his allergy as his body turns into a furry creature!
Starting off our list of the Top 10 Manga on Hiatus, we examine Nyan Koi. While Nyan Koi sounds like a ridiculous harem set up—though what harems aren’t to be honest—the unique themes and comedy make Nyan Koi a blast to read. Junpei’s saving of cats at times makes us burst out in laughing as he’s filled with misery and joy at helping the feline pets. At only 6 volumes released so far, we know there can be even more done with the various girls and Junpei in Nyan Koi. That’s why it’s a bummer that Nyan Koi has been under hiatus for some time now and we have to pray that we’re not cursed ourselves with no more releases.
An alien race from another dimension—codenamed Neighbors—has tried for some time to destroy Earth. Luckily for Earth an elite team of fighters known as Border have constantly been able to stop Neighbors from gaining the upper hand. This is thanks to their power that comes from alien technology. One of the Border fighters known as Osamu Mikumo doesn’t stand out in comparison to his peer but his strength comes from a can do attitude. Though Osamu’s life changes when he meets Yuma who despite being a Neighbor isn’t like the rest.
Here at Honey’s Anime, we always love some good sci-fi themed manga. One of our long time favorites since 2011 is known as World Trigger by mangaka Ashihara Daisuke. For a long while we constantly were over joyed that we continued to get plenty of World Trigger releases. Though due to possible injuries, Ashihara couldn’t continue World Trigger. While no word of World Trigger returning has been announced, we here at Honey’s Anime have faith the series will return. Till then, we shall re read the 18 volumes and enjoy this amazing sci-fi manga.
For Yuugo Hachiken, life has been all about studying. Day in and day out, Yuugo would study so he could be the best at school and make his parents proud. However, Yuugo’s constant studying eventually made him crack and thus he decided to change schools. Leaving the city life, Yuugo enrolls in a school that focuses on farming and agriculture. The problem here though is Yuugo has never once farmed in his whole life…
Gin no Saji by mangaka Arakawa Hiromu has kept us always intrigued seeing as many of us here at Honey’s Anime are city folk ourselves. The idea of a guy changing his life to be more focused on farming makes for some great comedy and some interesting drama in equal measure. That’s why it pains us that Gin no Saji has found itself constantly being hit with hiatus status. Hopefully we shall see more Gun no Saji as we need to know how Yuugo’s life is as of current. Though at least for those new to the series they have 14 volumes to read before catching up.
A 14-year-old boy doesn’t yet realize his fate in the world. Humanity has grown tired of fighting lizard beings and orcs and wishes to end the beings once and for all. If humanity wishes to accomplish this they will need to summon the soul trapped within the young boy. Once unleashed, the powerful Dark Schneider will fight against the various generals who wish to summon an ancient god and stop the madness. Metal and fantasy collide in Bastard. Ankoku no Hakaishin!
Bastard. Ankoku no Hakaishin might have come out in 1987 but even today this manga is nothing but awesome. With beautiful art, a rich story and an all too interesting use of the metal music genre, Bastard. Ankoku no Hakaishin has kept us in constant awe even after 27 volumes have released. Though with such a lengthy release Bastard. Ankoku no Hakaishin has always been bound to have a hiatus happen from time to time. Even the best mangaka like Hagiwara Kazushi needs their rest. That’s why we will wait patiently for more Bastard. Ankoku no Hakaishin to release alongside the fans who still have love for this older manga series.
Many love school especially young Takeya Yuki. While Yuki might not do great at school, she still loves being in class and with her friends. Together Yuki, Kurumi and Yuuri have even made a club called School Life Club where they don’t even go home and live at school to enjoy it to the fullest. Though in reality, Yuki has fooled herself into believing her school life is happy as outside her delusion the school is anything but what it was once before…
Gakkougurashi is one of those manga that when you read it, you have a weird feeling at first. You wonder how could this be considered horror and then when that revelation occurs your mind does a backflip. That’s why we love Gakkougurashi so much here at Honey’s Anime and we know we aren’t alone according to reviews and the scores online. Though at the moment Gakkougurashi is—like all of the manga on this list—in hiatus. Though the good news is that the creators have stated we should have more sometime within the current year of 2017 meaning Gakkougurashi won’t be missed for much longer. If you haven’t yet tried out Gakkougurashi now is the time to catch up so you can keep up with fans when the next chapter releases.
All gods want to be worshipped. While they may be powerful beings, if there is no one to love them and give offerings to them then they fade into obscurity. Though for one god he plans on doing anything in his power to prevent this from occurring. Enter Yato, a god who will do anything for money and we mean anything. Watch as Yato tries his hardest to become a loved god by all in Noragami.
Noragami has blown up in the world of the manga thanks to mangaka Adachitoka. With incredible art, a fun cast of characters and a truly unique story, Noragami for 18 volumes has given us more than we could have ever expected. That’s why fans—us included—were heartbroken to hear of Adachitoka’s health issues. This in turn caused Noragami to enter the terrible world of hiatus manga and it has been that way for a while now. Though we’re sure if we continue to pray for Adachitoka’s recovery we will get more Noragami sooner than we could hope for. Nana Komatsu has found herself moving to Tokyo recently. Thanks to her troubled past and slew of boyfriend dramas, Nana hopes Tokyo will offer a much-needed change to her life. Meanwhile, Nana Osaki who happens to be part of a punk band is just trying to chase her dreams in the big city. The two Nanas are soon to meet up and with that meeting a friendship will form. Musical manga doesn’t get much better than Nana. With some impressive shoujo based art and an endearing tale of two women becoming best friends when they need friendship more than anything else, Nana has always been one of our favorite shoujo works ever. That’s why we were shocked when in 2009 Nana just came to an abrupt halt after the mangaka’s illness with so much left to offer us manga readers. The series—as far as we know—hasn’t been cancelled and thus we can only conclude it’s on an extremely long hiatus as many believe. Though no matter when mangaka Yazawa Ai’s Nana returns, we here at Honey’s Anime will be ready to reenter the lives of both Nanas without a second thought.
Death has known traveling mercenary Guts since his birth. Though finally it seems Guts would find a place to call home once he meets others like him in the form of the Band of the Hawk. The leader named Griffith has plans that he vows to make a reality and wishes for Guts to help him realize his dream. While Guts will still continue fighting and slaughtering hundreds, he’s found some joy having a place to call home. However, Guts’ world will soon change dramatically when events begin to befall his new friends and family…
Sometimes we here at Honey’s Anime are used to some series going into hiatus mode. This is especially the case with the legendary manga series Berserk. Ever since its 1989 release, Berserk fans have become all too aware that Berserk could soon be hit with another hiatus. Though at least when Berserk does come back, we know it will return with some solid chapters that will make us forget how long we had to wait for them. Plus, Berserk already has been announced for more chapters this winter coming—as of this article mind you—so our wait won’t be much longer.
In this large world there exists special people known as Hunters. These warriors come in numerous shapes and sizes. Their reasons for being Hunters all vary from reasons like finding the best warriors to fight or gaining the means of finding treasure only a Hunter can obtain. If you wish to become a Hunter though you must pass a grueling exam that hundreds enter and most fail. Enter Gon a young boy who wishes to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a Hunter himself.
If you ask most manga fans out there what series is known for going on hiatus quite often, most would say Hunter x Hunter. Mangaka Togashi Yoshihiro has constantly given fans an amazing shounen series but it has cost him a lot of pain as he suffers from various ailments thanks to working so hard to bring his fans such quality work. Hunter x Hunter is truly an impressive manga and most know that so very few ever complain about Togashi’s famous long leaves from working on the series. Though Hunter x Hunter never stays on hiatus for long and we know it will be launching back at us in only a few more months. If you haven’t read Hunter x Hunter then you have plenty to read seeing as how Hunter x Hunter is 34 volumes long at the moment.
Many years ago, a large hole formed in the world. Men and women began calling this large crater the Abyss and began to explore it. Though in the Abyss many dangers exist in the form of creatures, land hazards and various odd supernatural occurrences. That’s why only trained explorers known as Cave Raiders have been allowed to search the Abyss for various treasures and hidden artifacts. Two brave young souls are about to enter the Abyss themselves and learn just how beautiful and terrifying the Abyss is first hand.

This incredible adventure, fantasy and sci-fi manga crafted by mangaka Tsukushi Akihito has only released 6 volumes but each one has simply blown us away with jaw dropping art and an extremely impressive narrative. While the manga has recently ended—though not for long we hope—the manga is still far from concluding and it seems as if the hiatus is the same in that regard. We can only hope here at Honey’s Anime that Reg and Riko’s adventures in the Abyss don’t end yet and will start up soon. Though only time will tell when we get to enjoy another great chapter of Made in Abyss.
Final Thoughts
The word hiatus for manga readers is like being shot in the heart by a metaphorical bullet. It hurts sometimes so fiercely to know a new chapter or volume of our beloved work won’t release for some long stretch of time. However, usually mangaka know the pain we endure as fans and try their best to keep us all posted on when new chapters will release and eventually a lot of the manga we love will come back better than ever before.
