Пухлая, нерешительная и недотепистая офисная работница Рене Беннетт (Эми Шумер) очень хочет быть такой же красивой, как ее стройные сослуживицы по компании элитной косметики. Но она мало что для этого предпринимает, кроме того что ворует сэмплы и учится ими пользоваться. Когда Рене начинает, наконец, заниматься на тренажерах, она падает и сильно бьется головой. Очнувшись, женщина видит себя в новом свете. Ей кажется, что она превратилась в красотку-фотомодель. Это придает Рене уверенности в себе, и она меняет работу, находит себе парня и очаровывает главу косметической компании Эйвери Леклер (Мишель Уильямс), которой нужна руководительница отдела дешевой косметики.
Проведя четыре года в телевизионном скетч-шоу собственного имени «Внутри Эми Шумер», нью-йоркская комедиантка прочно прописалась в среднебюджетных кинокомедиях. В 2015-м Шумер выпустила «Девушку без комплексов», в 2017-м – «Дочь и мать ее», а теперь до российских кинотеатров добралось третье, самое абсурдное кино со звездой в главной роли.
Среди персонажей «Красотки» нет никого младше 30 лет, но по настроению и уровню юмора это картина для детей. Причем не самых развитых. Главная героиня фильма ведет себя как полная идиотка. Достаточно сказать, что в зачине Рене на полном серьезе среди ночи приходит к фонтану, чтобы бросить монетку и загадать желание. И она реально ждет, что желание исполнится! А ведь в этот момент героиня еще не ударилась головой и не превратилась в полусумасшедшую.
Дальше – больше. Весь фильм оказывается демонстрацией эпической тупости, непосредственности и инфантильности Рене, и окружают героиню люди, которые недалеко от нее ушли. Например, Мишель Уильямс играет Эйвери как витающую в облаках «куклу» с неестественным голосом и причудливыми ужимками. Миллионерша настаивает, что умнее, чем кажется («Это все мой дурацкий голос!»), но по ее поступкам этого не видно. То, что она приближает и возвышает Рене с ее двумя мозговыми извилинами, само по себе о многом говорит.
«Красотка» содержит ожидаемое феминистское морализаторство типа «Не важно, как ты выглядишь, важно, какой ты себя чувствуешь», но львиная доля ее юмора – это высмеивание нелепой пухляшки Рене. То есть кино одновременно предлагает смеяться над женщиной, не соответствующей фотомодельным стандартам, и переживать из-за того, что эти стандарты существуют и что они давят на тех, кто им не соответствует. Неудивительно, что западные феминистские издания обрушились на «Красотку» как тонна кирпичей, а защитники фильма оправдывали ленту лишь тем, что над ней работало много женщин и что это якобы само по себе делает кино феминистским. Трудно придумать более жалкий и слабый аргумент.
Формально «Красотка» числится романтической комедией, но ее романтизм сводится к тому, что умеренно обаятельный бородатый «лузер» в исполнении комика Рори Сковела с ужасом и восхищением наблюдает, как Рене все больше сносит крышу. Никакой особой любви в этом не чувствуется, и «Красотку» уместнее считать карикатурным фарсом, снятым «чисто чтобы поржать».
Впрочем, стандартам тупых комедий лента вполне соответствует. Она энергичная, дурацкая, яркая, и в ней есть над чем посмеяться, если у вас не вызывает аллергии агрессивное идиотничание и несуразное чтение морали. Шумер и Уильямс достаточно забавны, чтобы вдвоем вытащить картину. Но лишь до уровня «тройки».

По описанию, «Красотка на всю голову» должна быть фильмом за все хорошее против всего плохого: демократизация индустрии красоты — есть, поиск реальных героев и свежих лиц — есть, бодипозитив — есть. Однако смотреть на это больно и несносно — в.
В теории — жизнеутверждающая и актуальная комедия, одна только профессия героини чего стоит (дизайнер сайта в компании по производству косметики). На практике все портит примитивный, совершенно дурацкий юмор и банальная мораль в лоб.
Авторы фильма вместо того, чтобы довериться чувству юмора своей звезды, задействуют артистку исключительно, как функцию, продолжение ее внешности и базовых комедийных реакций.
Нельзя однозначно назвать фильм плохим: у него есть удачные идеи, в некоторых местах показывают довольно реалистичный взгляд на обычных людей и ближе к финалу конечно же прямо проговаривают мораль для тех, кто вдруг не смог догадаться по тону.
В двухчасовом кино нашлось место сразу нескольким типажам, поэтому можно смело писать этот штамп: в «Красотке на всю голову» многие зрители узнают себя. Вот только высидеть эти два часа проблематично.
Это выглядит глупо, но относительно весело, пока авторы не включают мораль, заставляя вкусившую успех героиню смотреть свысока на лучших подруг, которые остались такими же, какой еще недавно была она сама. В итоге фильм заметно хуже, чем, например.

Everything to Know About Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ Starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling
It’s a Barbie world, and we’re all just living in it.
What seems like a Mattel doll lifetime ago, Margot Robbie confirmed the “Barbie” live-action film adaptation in July 2019, with Greta Gerwig and partner Noah Baumbach co-writing the script. Gerwig was later announced to be directing the film.
The news marked the famed blonde-haired doll’s 60th anniversary. “Barbie” will premiere in theaters on July 21, 2023.
Robbie, who will star as Barbie opposite Ryan Gosling’s Ken, is slated to produce the film through her production company LuckyChap Entertainment. Mattel Films and HeyDay Films will co-produce.

Peacock has put in development Cheeky, a comedy based on Ariella Elovic’s book Cheeky: A Head-To-Toe Memoir, from Saturday Night Live‘s Aidy Bryant, writer Sudi Green, executive producer Lorne Michaels, and Universal Television.
Written by Bryant, Green, and Elovic, the Cheeky series adaptation is a refreshingly honest, sometimes obscene collection of first-person stories about all things bodily told by comedians, celebrities, bus drivers, kids, and your grandmother’s crankiest friend. Each episode focuses on a theme and is animated in the same colorful and painterly style as the book by Elovic.
Bryant and Green executive produce with Michaels and Andrew Singer of Michael’s Broadway Video. Elovic and Alice Mathias serve as co-executive producers. Willa Slaughter serves as producer. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.

Voltage Pictures has appointed Alexandra Cocean to EVP, International Sales and Distribution. She will start immediately and report to Voltage President and COO Jonathan Deckter.
Her appointment comes just prior to the upcoming Marche du Film. Voltage’s sales slate includes action-thriller Last Seen Alive starring Gerard Butler, Jaimie Alexander and Russell Hornsby and the political biopic Reagan, starring Dennis Quaid and Penelope Ann Miller with Oscar-winner Jon Voight.

Amy Schumer is revealing why she decided to leave Barbieland for good.
The “Life & Beth” star spoke out about parting ways with the “Barbie” live-action film adaptation during a cover story interview with The Hollywood Reporter. When Schumer left the project, the reason cited was “scheduling conflicts” with her 2018 film “I Feel Pretty.” Now, Schumer is clarifying what really happened.
“They definitely didn’t want to do it the way I wanted to do it, the only way I was interested in doing it,” the 2022 Oscar co-host said.
Turns out that the studio (then Sony) and Schumer just didn’t see eye to eye. Per the THR interview, Schumer and sister and writing partner Kim Caramele wrote Barbie as an “ambitious inventor,” while the studio asked that her invention be a high heel made out of Jell-o. Schumer also said that she was sent a pair of Manolo Blahniks to celebrate the film deal.

A woman struggling with insecurity wakes from a fall believing she is the most beautiful and capable woman on the planet. Her new confidence empowers her to live fearlessly, but what happens when she realizes her appearance never changed?
In I FEEL PRETTY a woman who struggles with feelings of deep insecurity and low self-esteem, that hold her back everyday, wakes from a brutal fall in an exercise class believing she is suddenly a supermodel. Renee Bennett is a young woman who struggles with low self-esteem and insecurities over her appearance. Out of a Chinatown basement office, she manages the website for cosmetics firm Lily LeClaire with co-worker Mason, while aspiring to work in their Fifth Avenue headquarters. When a vacancy for a receptionist comes up at HQ, she decides not to apply after reading the job description’s emphasis on being the beautiful «face» of LeClaire. One night, inspired by the movie Big, Renee wishes at a fountain to be beautiful, but nothing happens. The next day, Renee falls off her SoulCycle bike during an exercise class, hitting her head and losing consciousness. When she wakes, she has not changed physically, but she believes herself to be astonishingly beautiful..

That night Renee gets together with her two best friends, Vivian (Aidy Bryant) and Jane (Busy Philipps.) In getting ready to meet them, Renee tries to follow along with styling instructional videos on YouTube but fails. She also reads gossip about the LeClaire family.
After meeting up, the three sign up for a dating service where groups of three friends go out on triple-dates, and they discuss how no one on dating apps ever looks past the picture. They pose for group photos and decide on one to upload to the site. Then they go out for drinks and dancing. Renee’s lack of self-confidence makes it difficult for her to get drinks at the bar. When Renee gets home that night, she undresses in front of the mirror and feels badly over her plump body and appearance.
The next day we discover Renee works for LeClaire Cosmetics. However, she works in a dingy basement office in Chinatown and dreams of working at the main office downtown. Her schlubby co-worker Mason (Adrian Martinez) tries to make conversation with her but it’s awkward, and ultimately he tells her that he masturbated the night before. Renee’s job is to photograph cosmetics for display on the company website. Someone has complained that something she photographed is more orange in real life than in the photos, and she is frustrated with her job.
We cut to the downtown offices where Avery LeClaire (Michelle Williams), a beautiful and thin woman with a baby voice, is in a meeting with her staff. She is overseen by her mother Lily (Lauren Hutton) who has founded their company. They have launched a line of less expensive and more accessible cosmetics for sale at retails stores like Target, but they are not selling well, and the advertising campaign is tanking. Lily realizes that because of her wealth and beauty Avery has a disconnect with the product line and doesn’t understand how to properly market it.
The day after that, Renee runs into the woman from Soul Cycle at a Target store. She starts asking her about what it’s like to be so beautiful, and while conversing, a man comes over. He interrupts them to flirt with the other woman, referred to Renee as a Target employee and calling her a man. He’s extremely rude, and the other woman tells him she isn’t going to give him her number. He leaves, and Renee marvels at what it must be like to have that happen all of the time.
Later at work, there is a server issue, so Renee must print out a bunch of informational reports and hand deliver them to the downtown office. She arrives, and interacts with the beautiful but rude receptionist, who is just an intern. She sees Lily walk through the office and is in awe. She finds out that the company is looking for a permanent receptionist, and despite the fact that it would technically be a step down in both title and pay, she longs to have the job just to be around the beautiful and wealthy people.
At home that night she is watching the Tom Hanks movie «Big.» It is the scene where he wishes to be bigger. In a moment of fancy, she runs outside into the rain and throws a coin into a fountain. She wishes to be beautiful. After making the wish, she looks into her mirror compact and is sad to see it did not come true.
The next day Renee goes to Soul Cycle class. She makes sure to screw down her seat properly this time. The class instructor shouts out motivational phrases about destiny and miracles happening, and it seems as if she is being spoken to specifically. Shortly after starting the class, her shoe detaches from the cycle, and she falls and hits her head, ripping a clump of hair out in the wheel of another bike. She goes unconscious.
When she wakes up, she is in a locker room. An employee (Sasheer Zamata) is looking over her. She offers an ice pack and a free bandanna. As Renee comes to, she starts to notice her limbs, starting with her legs and then arms. She seems to be reacting to them as if there’s something wrong, and the employee is concerned. Renee then looks in the mirror and is stunned to see that she has transformed into an incredibly beautiful, physically fit version of herself. (Except she hasn’t. She is hallucinating/imagining it. Everyone else still sees her as being overweight.)
Now believing that the world sees her this way, she begins to behave with the confidence of a woman who has these features. She goes to pick up her dry cleaning, and behind her in line is Ethan (Rory Scovel.) They strike up a conversation, and Renee jokes that the dry cleaner calls out people’s numbers at random. Ethan asks what her number is, and she believes he is hitting on her. She forces him to exchange phones so they can enter one anothers’ number in each others’ phone. Rory is bewildered by her confident, outgoing personality, even as she is handed her vomit-covered clothing (the dry cleaner couldn’t get it out.)
With her newfound confidence, Renee submits her resume for the receptionist position and is called in to interview. She goes into the office where everyone reacts to her as if they are surprised she is there. She takes this in the wrong way, assuming that she seems out of place because she is SO beautiful that she would never bother for such a position. She interviews with Avery and Helen (Naomi Campbell). They keep giving indicators that they don’t think she’s the right fit, but again she takes this to mean that they don’t understand why she wouldn’t pursue modeling, or confusion as to why she would take a step-down in pay. Because of her overwhelming confidence, she gets the job, but also Avery sees potential to have an «every woman» nearby from whom she can get advice on how to market their new budget cosmetics line.
Renee meets up with her friends and tries to ease them into believing that it’s her, believing they see the «new» version of herself. She tries to offer up facts only she would know, including that they all planned on getting 90210 themed tattoos (which Vivian did before the other two bailed.) Because she doesn’t look any different, the two go along with the situation. The trio checks their dating app profile, but it has not even been viewed. Renee suggests they take a new photo with her new beautiful body as it will get more attention.
Renee goes back to her old office and bids goodbye to Mason, who is attempting to take a dump while she speaks to him. She says he should have hit on her when he had the chance, and he begs her to leave him alone so he can finish. She leaves, and starts her new receptionist job. Renee goes into the job with confidence and a great attitude. She stocks fresh cold water in a mini fridge under her desk and provides visitors with a straw. A woman arrives for a meeting and based on how Renee looks, assumes she is in the wrong place, but Renee wins her over with a great attitude and friendliness.
It turns out Grant LeClaire is observing Renee, and he approaches her to say hello. Renee is slightly overwhelmed and confesses that she knows about him and has followed him in the media. She even stocked a green health beverage in her mini fridge in case he came by, because she saw him drinking it in a tabloid. She jokes about the many women with whom he is linked, and fears he is offended, but he is clearly refreshed by Renee’s great attitude. He even mentions how impressed he is that Avery hired her.
Later Renee is bringing water on a tray to a staff meeting about the new budget makeup line and accidentally knocks a blush compact out of an employee’s hand. She kneels down to pick it up and notices there is no applicator in the packaging. Avery gently scolds Renee, pointing out that if she were more familiar with the brand, she would know none of their blushers include applicators. Renee says that although she did know this, she just assumed a budget version would include one. She points out that the everyday woman buys these products and puts them on on-the-go, in many situations, and doesn’t bring along brushes of her own. She may be doing so in the car, for instance, and is forced to apply with only he finger. Avery graciously thanks Renee for this valuable input. (Renee is never condescending or unkind to Renee, and her interest in what she has to say seems genuine and never an attempt to take advantage.)
Renee gets up on stage and wins the audience over with her rowdy, bawdy personality, doing a sexy dance on stage and even pouring water over her breasts. The crowd reacts positively, but she does not win the contest. Ethan admits that he is incredibly impressed by her confidence, and Renee says she doesn’t care if she won the contest because she knows she’s beautiful and she had fun. The two go back to Renee’s place, and Renee quickly undresses and then shows off her body to Ethan as a «preview,» to which he jokes she might not understand what a «preview» is. They head to bed, and Ethan leaves his shirt on and turns out the light. Renee turns it back on, and as they start to kiss, Ethan turns it off again. She turns it back on and asks if he doesn’t want to see her. He says he very much wants to see her, but thought perhaps she wouldn’t want to see him. She makes it clear that she does, and they make love. While doing so, Renee mounts him, and sees her reflection in the mirror over the bed and is very turned on by it. So is Ethan. After making love, they cuddle, and he again marvels at her confidence.
An undetermined amount of time passes (probably around a month.)
The next day at work, Avery rushes to Renee and begs for help. She confesses that she simply doesn’t know how to market their new budget makeup line, and pleads with Renee to help spearhead the campaign and take on more responsibility. She also laments that no one takes her seriously (despite her advanced degree) because of her beauty and her baby voice, which she has tried to shed but cannot. Renee agrees to do so, and Avery asks her to come to a fancy dinner with the company bigwigs to discuss the situation. Renee says yes, and Avery says she should bring along a date (going through a comedic list of potential date genders in the process.) Renee says she does have someone to bring.
Sometime later Renee and Ethan attend dinner at an upscale restaurant. All three members of the LeClaire family are there. Renee easily impresses Lily with her candor about the budget cosmetics line and insists that Renee come along to the major pitch meeting they are having with Target’s people in Boston. It becomes clear that Grant is enamored with Renee.
After dinner, Renee meets up with her friends and takes them to a Chinese restaurant where coworkers from LeClaire said a hidden speakeasy was located in the back. No one in the restaurant will tell them how to get to it, so the three sit down to dinner. Renee is somewhat rude to her friends, asking why they didn’t dress up as she asked, and they brush it off. Suddenly a stream of models come in, and Renee rushes over to them to say hi. She comes back to her friends and reveals that only she herself would be allowed to go back, but she would only go if they’re okay with it. They reluctantly say yes, and Renee disappears, leaving them alone.
The next night Renee meets up with her friends again. The dating app has scored them a trio of men, and even though Renee now has Ethan, she agrees to play along. However, she is extremely rude and unkind to her friends, interrupting them when they try to connect with the men in conversation and essentially painting them as unattractive, boring people with «potential». The men are clearly put off by Renee, and her friends pull her aside and ask her why she’s behaving this way. Renee really thinks she’s being a great wing man and doesn’t understand why they’re upset, so she leaves.
A few days later Renee boards a private jet to fly out to the Boston meeting. Avery is on the plane, and Renee attempts to go over her presentation, but Avery has taken sleeping pills. Renee moves back to sit with Grant, whose interest in her becomes even more obvious. Later, at the hotel, Grant knocks on Renee’s door. He comes in and asks to order room service, claiming that Avery blocked his ability to charge to his own room which is next door. He is attempting to seduce Renee, eventually luring her into the bedroom where he tries to kiss her. Before he can do so, Renee gets a photo text from Ethan, and she snaps out of it. She shoves Grant out of the bedroom and runs into the bathroom claiming to have diarrhea. She turns on the glass shower and goes inside, but she runs into the glass and is knocked unconscious.
When Renee awakens, she has a nasty bleeding wound on her forehead. She gets out of the shower and realizes she has missed her meeting with Avery to go over the presentation. She runs down to the hotel lobby, and she encounters Mason who has been brought along on the trip to handle A/V tech. He recognizes her, and she is horrified because based on her «new self,» he should not. She looks in the mirror and discovers that she sees her old self again. Devastated that she has reverted to her «ugly» form, and knowing Avery and others will not recognize her, she gives her presentation to Mason and tells him to deliver it to Avery to do herself. Renee flees back home.
At home, she gets a video call from Ethan, who is excited to see her again, but she hides off camera so he can’t see her. She says she can’t meet him because she injured her back on the plane, and he offers to come over to take care of her. She says he can’t because her place is being fumigated for ants, and he says, in that case, he should come get her and take her elsewhere. She realizes her lies aren’t adding up and agrees to a date on Saturday. She then proceeds to get extremely drunk in her grief over her «lost» beauty. She visits Vivian’s house, and discovers Vivian and Jane are on a date with their two guys from the app. Vivian says Renee was cruel to them and doesn’t want to see her, so Renee leaves in rejection.
The next day Renee goes back to Soul Cycle and attempts to recreate her accident to be «beautiful» again, but it doesn’t work. She encounters the beautiful woman from before who is now crying in the locker room. The woman says she has been broken up with and Renee is incredulous that beautiful people get broken up with at all. Renee calls the woman stupid (in a colloquial fashion,) and the woman is upset because she has been burdened with people assuming she is stupid her whole life. Renee apologizes, and the two make amends.
The next morning Renee wakes up to numerous missed calls from Avery. In a voicemail, Avery says that she delivered the presentation in Boston but it didn’t go well and she wishes Renee would come back and help her. That night Renee goes to the restaurant where she is supposed to meet Ethan. She assumes he will not recognize her, still believing that he fell in love with her «beautiful» version. She goes inside to a seat about 50 feet from him and texts, saying she is stuck at work and understands if he wants to bail. Ethan thinks she is playing some kind of sexy game, so he goes and sits next to her, pretending not to know her (while she thinks he, in fact, DOESN’T know her.) He says he is waiting for his girlfriend, but maybe he could buy her a drink while they wait.
Renee has an emotional reaction to him identifying her as «girlfriend,» and asks him about his «girlfriend» (herself.) He says she is the smartest, most creative, most beautiful woman in the world. This breaks Renee’s heart because again, she thinks she is talking about the way she BELIEVES he previously saw her. She flees the bar, and then calls him and breaks up with him, leaving him extremely confused.
Renee decides to try and help Avery while simultaneously making amends with her friends. She calls her friends and begs them to attend the big launch party for the new cosmetics line. She then arranges with Mason to take control of the A/V, and when Avery comes out and struggles with her presentation, Mason cuts the sound and lights, and Avery leaves the stage. Renee then appears behind a transparent scrim, and attempts to jump through it three times (each time splatting against it instead.) Vivian and Jane arrive just in time to see this.
Renee comes out on stage and puts up a photo of herself at the receptionist desk at LeClaire. She says that this is how everyone knows her, as a perfect beauty, but would they be surprised to see her looking like «this», and then put up another photo next to it of her working in the basement of the Chinatown office. But when Renee turns around and sees the photos, she sees that she looks the same. Suddenly she realizes that the magic spell never actually happened, and all along all of these people saw her the way she always was and not as some perfect beauty. She realizes that she accomplished everything simply being herself.
Renee then gives an uplifting speech about how every woman deserves to feel beautiful. She talks about how young girls have perfect confidence that over time gets chipped away by the world, and that LeClaire aims to help women get back to that natural state of total self-esteem. She projects photos of numerous types of women of every size, color, and age, including Jane and Vivian. The presentation goes over splendidly. When she goes off stage, she apologizes to Avery. Avery says the presentation was weird but went over perfectly. She also points out the company has excellent mental health benefits, indicating Renee’s job is still there for her if she wants it.
Renee, now realizing Ethan fell in love with her just as she always was, rushes to his home. She buzzes his video intercom and begins explaining to him that she broke with him for her own reasons and not because of him. She also picks her nose, not realizing she is on video. He rushes out to her, and picks her nose for her, getting what she couldn’t reach. They laugh and makeup, and embrace.
The last shot is of Renee, at the Soul Cycle class. She is now exercising because she wants to improve herself, not out of any fantasy goal or wish for a miracle. The camera zooms in on her determined, smiling face as she rigorously rides, and fades to black.

This film was surprisingly outstanding, and something today’s society needs to see.
For starters, it is something fresh. Then I give the highest props to both joint writer and directors Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein, of which this is only their 2nd film directing (1st being a short) and they nailed it. I never would have guessed this was directed by 2 novice directors. Also as seasoned writers, this one is a winner for me.
Everyone in this film was cast perfectly, from Emily Ratajkowski who also nailed her role and was perfectly cast for it, to the basement computer guy Adrian Martinez.
The pacing was perfect as was the length. For me, this film was near perfection. Ignore the haters and wannabe critics and watch this fun and entertaining film, you will not regret it, and I’ll bet you’ll be just as surprised as I am!
Will certainly recommend and watch again. A very well deserved 9/10 fun ride from me!
«I Feel Pretty» (2018) may not be the greatest movie, but it’s not a bad one either, at least not as bad as its current IMDb rating, 3.4 out of 10, shows. What’s puzzling (well, only slightly, given the video-gaming world we live in) is that movies having stories and subjects very little to do with reality: space operas, movies about superheroes. practically by default get higher rating, at least 7 out of 10, while not-at-all bad movies, but, in comparison to former, slightly unattractive since so unexcitingly set in real life, get often an average, or, as in this case, a very low rating. So, which of the two is more important quality of the movies (today), having the story told well nested in reality, or their technical superiority?
Answers will offer opposing views, but numbers show that great majority of viewers appreciate later. I have also enjoyed spectacular show while watching the ginormous gorilla George (Saint George) killing the augmented alligator (slaying the dragon), in latest IMAX theatres’ favourite «Rampage» (2018), but what’s the point? There’s no point, because point is supposed to make sense, and there’s a little sense outside of reality. On contrary, as unimpressive as it is, «I Feel Pretty» is so real, and as such, more relevant in everyday life.
Appealing factor in «I Feel Pretty» is the fact that movie managed to remain realistic in giving a believable reason (a head injury accident in a gym) for the main vehicle moving the story forward, i.e. for the changed perception of herself the main character goes through, therefore gaining confidence and modifying the way she carries herself. Regular movie goer with longer viewing experience will easily recall how numerous other, pretty good movies from the past managed to be quite entertaining, but only after fantastic premise has been served. Time-traveling movies, well represented by «Back to the Future» trilogy (1985, 1986, 1990) with Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, long list of body-swapping fantasies like «Freaky Friday» (1976) with Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster (or Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan in its 2003 remake) as mother and daughter whose personalities switch their bodies, Bill Murray’s character repeatedly reliving the same day in «Groundhog Day» (1993), Michael Keaton’s character quadrupled by cloning in «Multiplicity». to name a few. So, once we accept the fantastic premise, those movies are even more entertaining than the one reviewed here, at least leaving to «I Feel Pretty» advantage of having no fantasy infusion required, thus deserving the coveted attribute of being realistic.
Thanks to already veteran writers/first time directors, Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein, for coming up with a realistic reason (even though already seen before) for vital twist that propels the story. Though quite repeatedly, Ms. Amy Schumer successfully gets the (known) message (on getting the inner splendor loose) across, and, while doing so, achieves fluent and humoristic narrative, making it easy to accept her character, Renee Bennett, suddenly not limited only to her inner beauty, a point surely aided by the fact that actress herself doesn’t even fall in to the only other category. less beautiful. long ago advised as applicable for women.
Contrasting the dominant, loud female lead with her quiet, not shy (to deliver the line «Can I be you when I grow up?») but rather laid back, eventually boyfriend Ethan (Rory Scovel) was helpful. Other contributive «witnesses» include friends Vivian and Jane (Aidy Bryant and Busy Philipps), and quietly hysterical office mate Mason (Aidan Martinez).
Finally, in her supporting role as Avery LeClair, heiress to cosmetic line, although for her corporate position apparently sufficiently highly educated and quite well looking, Michelle Williams feels unsecure and requires help, so she uses suddenly wonderfully uninhibited Renee to deal with her physical (vocal) limitations, lack of business ideas, and other frustrations of her somewhat awkward position. Already established as dramatic actress, Williams uses this chance well to skillfully break into comedic acting by spicing her character with a touch of restrained lunacy.
In conclusion, film is at times touching, sufficiently amusing, and positively motivating. all of which should, hopefully, help (not only) girls «feel pretty and witty and bright!» (Line excerpted from the musical «West Side Story» and its song of the same title «I Feel Pretty».)

Эми Шумер — нестандартная, не побоюсь этого слова, комедийная актриса, и именно с её участием я решила посмотреть фильм «Красотка на всю голову».
Рене, главная героиня, недовольна своей внешностью, поэтому записывается в спортзал в надежде сбросить лишний вес. В процессе интенсивной велотренировки она падает, ударяется головой, теряет сознание и по пробуждении «становится» обалденной красоткой. Но такой видит себя только она сама.
Фильм поднимает вечный вопрос: что важнее — как ты выглядишь или как себя ощущаешь? И сюжет его доказывает, что главное — самовосприятие, а не мнение окружающих, ведь все ограничения и комплексы — лишь у нас в голове. После того, как главная героиня начинает видеть в зеркале красавицу, она наконец обретает уверенность в себе, которая позволяет ей делать всё, что хочется и на что «прежняя» Рене не могла решиться. Окружающие, на удивление, тоже начинают воспринимать девушку по-другому, считая её, как минимум, интересной собеседницей или даже женщиной мечты. ⠀ Кино очень позитивное, жизнеутверждающее, прекрасно поднимает настроение (и самооценку!). По теме и посылу фильм напоминает историю Бриджит Джонс (в некоторых эпизодах можно даже отследить аналогию). Есть множество смешных моментов и особенно радует то, что практически отсутствуют шутки на грани фола. ⠀ Эми Шумер — харизматичная и яркая актриса, к тому же профессиональный стендапер, поэтому в этой роли она как рыба в воде. I watched this movie because Amy Schumer brought Daisy Coleman, to help in the art and makeup department on this film. Which lead to her trying out for a part and ultimately her getting a small role in this film. Daisy is a hero and inspiration to me. #ForDaisy

I Feel Pretty has a great layout for what it could do, but never actually achieves it. That’s the main problem of the movie. It feels like it doesn’t know what to do with the plot which leads the movie to become very drawn out and sometimes boring. Some parts of the film feel like things just happen out of nowhere only to progress the story. There is no reasoning for some of the choices the characters make which makes the film seem off in certain moments. The movie switches from being good to being iffy every 20 minutes leaving the film to feel inconsistent. This film is also way too long. The filmmakers could have easily cut 15-20 minutes of the movie and make it a solid 90-minute movie. This ties into the random part as a lot of the scenes in this film feel so long. It’s like the filmmakers didn’t know how to end a scene so they just kept it going until it randomly cuts to the next scene. It also doesn’t help that some of the jokes don’t land as well as they should. I found some parts to be funny, but some of it felt like the actors and writers were trying too hard. Despite those main problems, I do have to say that the message in the film is quite nice and has an empowering ending. Amy Schumer does a great job telling the message of rising above the hate and becoming more confident with yourself. Even if that whole realization moment seems a bit overdone and predictable, Schumer knows how to put her own spin on it. It helps that a great score by Michael Andrews powers behind some inspiring moments in the film. The cast does a good job here with Schumer knowing how to handle the role. Rory Scovel also does a great job here even when his character was poorly handled in the script department. Michelle Williams and Tom Hopper are also fun to watch in the little roles they have. I guess that leads me to the overall problem with the film: everything feels undeveloped. Even with the great message at the end, most of the characters and almost all of the story feel so underdeveloped with no uniqueness to it. With a better script, this film could have been something really special. I do think that even with all the flaws in I Feel Pretty, there is something there that isn’t entirely bad. I think this is one of the most hilarious Amy Schummer film. A storm. It get more serious and preachy toward the end but still sends a few good ones, like the storm going away, lightning less and less.

The Amy Schumer comedy “I Feel Pretty” has generated a bit of backlash before it’s even come out, with many folks concerned that it’s relying on body shaming to generate cheap laughs. But that’s actually not even the movie’s biggest problem.
Schumer stars as a funny and capable but insecure young woman named Renee who bonks her head in a ghastly accident at a packed Manhattan spin class. When she regains consciousness, she believes she’s been magically transformed into the gorgeous bombshell she’s always dreamed of becoming. A steady diet of YouTube hair and makeup tutorials and Cosmopolitan magazine articles—not to mention that she works for a cosmetics company, so she’s a cog in the image machinery herself—has warped her notions of what constitutes true beauty.
But the clever central conceit in the script from Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein—a longtime writing team (“Never Been Kissed,” “He’s Just Not That Into You,” “How to Be Single”) also making their directorial debut—is that Renee’s outward appearance never changes. She thinks she’s suddenly unrecognizable. But really, Renee simply begins radiating the confidence that’s long eluded her, which leads to the kinds of opportunities she always hoped stunning looks would create. She lands her dream job as a receptionist at the high-end makeup company where she’d been toiling in obscurity. She’s a flirty social butterfly during the most mundane dive-bar outings with her two best pals (Aidy Bryant and Busy Phillips). And she gets a boyfriend (Rory Scovel) who’s attracted to her precisely because she’s a fun, fearless female, to borrow the Cosmo lingo.
This is a high-concept, modern-day fairy tale—a female version of “Big,” which “I Feel Pretty” even acknowledges by having Renee watch the Tom Hanks classic on TV before she tosses a coin in a fountain and makes a wish on a stormy night. Even the spin teacher at SoulCycle functions as a high-energy fairy godmother, sprinkling Renee with feel-good mantras before she takes her fateful tumble. It’s the happily-ever-after portion of the story that’s problematic.
Schumer has long challenged traditional ideas of femininity, from her stand-up comedy work to her television series “Inside Amy Schumer” to films like the surprisingly emotional “Trainwreck” and the less-successful “Snatched.” She can be simultaneously brash and sly—swaggering, yet self-deprecating. And watching her inspired delivery and unabashed physicality is one of the film’s great joys. Kohn and Silverstein play with music and camera angles to contrast how Renee newly sees herself in the world—strutting through a crowd with the perfect song punctuating every step—and the uneventful reality.
But playing a character with self-esteem issues—the Renee at the beginning and end of the film—is a bit of a departure for her, and it also allows her some genuinely dramatic moments. In an early scene, she comes home to her cramped Chinatown apartment after a night out with her girlfriends, strips down to her ill-fitting bra and flesh-colored Spanx and sadly surveys what she sees in the full-length mirror. This is not body shaming; this is a sensation every woman has experienced countless times in her life, regardless of her shape or how others might perceive her.
The idea that Renee possessed the confidence she was seeking all along is a well-worn cliché, but “I Feel Pretty” comes at it from a slightly different angle. This is no ugly duckling makeover comedy. There is no trying-on-clothes montage with Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” blasting in the background. But the you-go-girl pep talk Renee gives at the film’s moment of truth—at the launch party for a new line of affordable cosmetics aimed at everyday women—isn’t just empty and hackneyed. It also completely undermines the premise of “I Feel Pretty.” It suggests that giving into brand marketing and buying the right blush at a low price (probably from Target, which gets name-checked frequently) is the key to happiness—that achieving external beauty first can change how you feel internally.
Didn’t “I Feel Pretty” just spend the previous 100 minutes or so arguing the exact opposite?
Until that point, though, I was along for the ride. And a lot of that has to do with Schumer’s interactions with the inspired supporting cast.
Michelle Williams is the movie’s absolute MVP as the willowy Avery LeClair, heiress to the cosmetics line named for her glamorous grandmother, Lily LeClair (Lauren Hutton), who hires Renee for the receptionist job and increasingly leans on her for advice. What Williams is doing here is brilliantly controlled lunacy, starting with her voice: a squeaky baby-doll sound that comes out of nowhere disarms us from the first moment we hear it. Williams is so revered for her powerful dramatic roles by now that she doesn’t get nearly enough of a chance to tap into her comic abilities. From her studied, hesitant delivery to the hilariously awkward way she carries herself, it’s clear she’s having a blast with this wonderfully weird performance. (She does not, however, get to enjoy an on-screen “Dawson’s Creek” reunion with Phillips, her real-life BFF.)
Schumer also has a nice, natural chemistry with Scovel, whose character is admittedly insecure himself and is in awe of Renee’s charm and fortitude. Bryant and Phillips also are afforded more characterization than you often see in the wacky sidekick/best friend roles. And fellow comedian Dave Attell is his delightfully twisted self as the MC at a Coney Island bikini contest where Renee puts on a wild spectacle compared to the typical skinny girls who populate such events.
Again, this isn’t a moment of body shaming. It’s an unbridled display of enthusiasm. We’re laughing with her, not at her. If only the rest of the film had such complete confidence.
«I Feel Pretty» is a song that is featured in the 2021 live-action feature film, West Side Story. Not knowing about her brother’s death, María (Rachel Zegler) and other women from her neighborhood set to work cleaning a fancy department store after it has closed. Inspired by the furniture displays and dressed mannequins around her, she sings this song and poses amid tableaux of prosperous American life.

Фильм рассказывает о девушке по имени Рене. История в фильме не нова, но тут во-первых, здорово сыграно Эми Шумер главная героиня. Её веришь, особенно поражает её уверенность в себе и реакция, правда. Во-вторых, и сама подача фильма интересна, проста и поэтому фильм смотреть легко. Да и юмор присутствует. Фильм мне понравился. Идея интересно изложена. Я смеялась, фильм правда смешной, в меру трогательный, да и история близка каждой из нас. Затронутая самая главная тема, наводит на правильные выводы и мысли. Поэтому рекомендую.
