Когда пытаешься скрестить две несвязанные между собою истории, получается куча-мала. Практически невозможно соединить в одном сценарии сюжет о «пути к успеху» агента фармацевтических компаний и историю любви девушки с болезнью Паркинсона и работника мединдустрии. Попытку приготовить блюдо из соленых огурцов и молока предпринял Эдвард Цвик, и получилось у него как в «Кровавом алмазе», где ДиКаприо был великолепен, а все остальное – крайне сомнительно.
Джейми работает продавцом и удачно совмещает свою профессию с бытовым сексоголизмом. После очередной интриги с женщиной босса он теряет место в магазине бытовой техники и подается в фармацевтический бизнес, став торговым представителем «Пфайзер». На дворе – конец 90-х, до появления«Виагры» осталось не так уж много времени. Джейми знакомится с девушкой по имени Мэгги, которая помимо сексоголизма страдает еще и болезнью Паркинсона в начальной стадии. Руки уже трясутся, но бороться с этим пока получается. Собственно, на этом можно ставить точку – Джейми придется выбрать между блестящей карьерой продавца и будущим, полным неудобства по уходу за больной женщиной.
За основу сюжета была взята история реального продавца «Виагры» – Джейми Рейди, и по идее этот фильм – экранизация. Только мне совершенно не понятно, почему из потенциального кинохита в духе «Доброго утра» и «Дьявол носит Прада» сценаристы сделали мелодраму. Настоящий Джейми Рейди действительно сделал блестящую карьеру, но вот Мэгги с болезнью Паркинсона в реальной жизни не было, да и в фильме она – не пришей кобыле хвост.
Фильм, начавшийся как вполне типичная производственная комедия, вызывавшая улыбку и смех, к середине окончательно перешел в космическую плоскость, где грань между комедией и мелодрамой окончательно стерлась, а под конец и вовсе превратилась в романтическую трагикомедию. Возможно, это был оригинальный авторский замысел, но переключить восприятие, настрой, заданный первыми тридцатью минутами достаточно сложно, а по интересу поставленных проблем первая часть фильма, посвященная злоключениям Джейми в мире медицинских препаратов, сильно контрастирует со второй частью, где показываются душевные метания Мэгги, и контраст этот – не в пользу романтической линии сюжета. В результате получается два разных фильмах, которые по нелепой случайности были склеены в один.
Исполнители главных ролей Джейк Гилленхол и Энн Хэтэуэй были номинированы на «Золотой глобус» как лучшие исполнители мужской и женской роли в комедийном или музыкальном фильме. Номинации, скажу откровенно, честные – это как раз тот случай, когда актеры играют вопреки безумству сценаристов. Часто так бывает, что фильм – ужасен, а сам актер – великолепен, посмотрите хотя бы на большинство фильмов, где играет Джонни Депп. Особенно порадовала Хэтэуэй, ведь изобразить болезнь Паркинсона довольно сложно. Но как бы хорошо ни играли актеры, провалы в сюжетной линии и абсолютную несвязность повествования компенсировать не удалось. По степени своей унылости фильм напомнил мне еще одну ленту того же режиссера – «Кровавый алмаз» с Леонардо ДиКаприо. Фильм этот мне запомнился безупречно игрой ДиКаприо, но абсолютно скучным и гнетуще-заунывным стилем повествования.
Я не могу сказать, что этот фильм вполне подойдет для романтического киносвидания. Это все-таки не комедия, а мелодрама с уклоном в трагедию. К тому же в фильме довольно много эротических сцен – не так много, как в «Хлое», но достаточно, чтобы наполнить зал озабоченными подростками, желающими посмотреть на грудь Хэтэуэй. Сами решайте – хочется ли вам такой компании в зале.
Вердикт: кинонедоразумение, впрочем, от режиссера «Кровавого алмаза» другого ждать не приходится.
Я бы поставил фильму 18+, если вы понимаете о чём я 😉 Энн Хэтуэй молодец)) В остальном, фильм конечно о серьёзной проблеме тысяч людей, страдающих этим недугом, и говорить об этом так легкомысленно, поверхностно, и зачастую цинично, как-то не правильно. Весело. Грустно. Интересно. Открытая концовка.
Он продает антидепрессанты, а она страдает болезнью Паркинсона. Он пялится на ее грудь, а она бьет его портфелем по голове. Он хочет видеть ее здоровой, а она тяготиться его заботой. А вообще-то они любят друг друга.
Голливуд – в худших его проявлениях – сквозит в каждом кадре. Впрочем, некая изюминка, безусловно, заключается в том, что потерпев неудачу на ниве антидепрессантов, герой переключается на промоушен Виагры. Но половая дисфункция здесь все равно остается фоном, на первом плане ранний Паркинсон. Сходки страдающих от этой болезни, жуткие пророчества и предостережения, трясущиеся руки Энн Хатуэй. А он – никогда не скучающий ловелас – решил вдруг влюбиться, остановив свой выбор на ней – больной и обреченной.
По сути, фильм построен на нравоучении. Он призывает не бросать тех, кого любишь, даже если эта любовь грозит принести много страданий. Он призывает к человечности и гуманности. К доброте и ответственности. К чувствительности и бесстрашию. В защиту фильма, впрочем, можно сказать, что страдания начинаются ближе к концу. Первая половина сделана изящно и весело – и шутки попадаются смешные, и совокупляются они разнообразно и со вкусом. Диалоги, конечно, хромают едва ли не повсеместно, но повторюсь – совокупляются они со вкусом.
Потом чувство меры изменяет режиссеру, начинаются метания и искания. Она ездит с домом престарелых на экскурсии, а он догоняет автобус и едет рядом с такой же скоростью. Он хочет бросить ее, но она признается ему в любви, и слова застывают у него на языке. Он таскает ее по больницам и госпиталям, а она протестует, ведь он становится ей нужнее, чем она ему. Долго тянется эта карусель, а иногда перебивается обострениями и приступами. В какой-то момент кино еще могло вытянуть себя за косичку из болота, но по-голливудски выверенный хэппи-энд не оправдал этой надежды. Уповать остается только на то, что эпизодический персонаж Питера Фридмана – несчастного мужа на чикагском съезде – окажется прав в своем жутком пророчестве.
Когда смотрел этот фильм, не думал что в нем будет что то такое, что мне понравится, но я ошибался. Хороший, сильный фильм, который заставляет задуматься.

Фильм по мотивам автобиографии Джейми Рейди «Как я продавал Виагру» мог бы, по большому счету, стать чем угодно: байопиком, разоблачающим фарминдустрию, интеллигентной драмой о любви карьериста к девушке с синдромом Паркинсона и даже убойной молодежной комедией. И решив в конечном итоге делать ромком (получившийся, в целом, довольно симпатичным), режиссер Эдвард Цвик так и не сумел до конца забыть о прочих опциях. Однако все шпильки в адрес американской системы здравоохранения, где фармацевтические компании напоминают секты, а клятва Гиппократа трактуется чересчур вольно, совершенно разбиваются о крупные планы женской груди, представляющей, как ни крути, куда более интересный объект для исследования.
В книге Рейди нет любовной линии. Готовясь к съемкам Энн Хэтэуэй ходила в группы поддержки для людей, страдающих болезнью Паркинсона, и консультировалась у невропатологов. Хэтэуэй и Джилленхол играли супругов в фильме «Горбатая гора», за которую последний получил номинацию на «Оскар». Хэтэуэй номинировали на «Оскар» за роль в фильме «Рэйчел выходит замуж».
И сколько ни старается Эдвард Цвик подружить ромком с проблемами фармацевтики, союз этот выходит довольно странным: дежурный хеппи-энд все ж таки совсем не сочетается с неизлечимой болезнью Паркинсона, а прикроватный юмор – с гуманистической заботой о нуждах больных и страждущих. Благо, совсем уж расползтись на части ленте не позволяет отличная сыгранность дуэта Хэтэуэй-Джилленхол, где первая покоряет вкрадчивым взглядом оленьих глаз, а второй парирует соблазнительной улыбкой. Да и в целом, приличных сцен в фильме так мало, а шуток про Виагру так много, что приходится признать: «любовь» здесь все-таки на первом месте, а «другие лекарства» – так, для бодрости.

Собирая вещи, Джейми просматривает видеозапись своего разговора с Мэгги. Внезапно он понимает, что Мэгги нужна ему такой, какая она есть. У него потребность любить её и заботиться о ней. The story was weak. Much of it was filled with distractions and poorly developed ideas. It could not decide on whether it was a love story, an indictment of «big-pharm», a comedy, a drama, or a pseudo-documentary of what it is like to love someone who is terminally ill. The review below of Love and Other Drugs – described as a film where «a womanising drug rep. falls, redemptively, for a woman with Parkinson’s» – expressed the opinion that the pharmaceuticals company Pfizer «would never have allowed this movie to use its brand name so freely were it not absolutely assured that some very effective product placement was going on». A Pfizer representative asks us to make clear that there was no such arrangement: «The company was not involved in the film’s production in any way and we were not approached by the film’s producers with regard to the use of our trademarks. Furthermore, in many countries, including the UK, such product placement of prescription-only medicines is not only a contravention of industry codes of practice, but also of the law, including the Medicines (Advertising) Regulations 1994. A subheading on the article also referred to one of the characters as «a Parkinson’s victim», terminology at odds with the Guardian’s style book.
There’s a cynical chill at the heart of this insidious corporate moviemercial for the Pfizer pharmaceutical company, masquerading as a heart-wrenching romantic drama about a womanising drug rep, who falls, redemptively, for a woman with Parkinson’s. Some pundits have gasped at what they imagine to be the film’s tough, hard-hitting satire at the expense of big pharma. The truth is that Pfizer would never have allowed this movie to use its brand name so freely were it not absolutely assured that some very effective product placement was going on. The cynicism is there to be surmounted – jabs at the drug companies lend authenticity and plausibility to the insistent underlying message, that the drugs work and that the people selling them are, basically, really good guys.
Jake Gyllenhaal plays Jamie, a pushy salesman for Pfizer in the 1990s, who is struggling to get doctors to prescribe Zoloft, his company’s anti-depression medicine. Without a qualm, he bamboozles his way into hospital wards and seduces receptionists. When Pfizer launch the wildly popular Viagra, he becomes a big hitter. But at the same time he falls for Maggie, played by Anne Hathaway, a smart, vulnerable young woman with stage one Parkinson’s, a condition for which – oh, irony! oh, humility! – there are no drug remedies.
It is not simply that this film looks as if it was written and directed by a Hollywood robot programmed with cliche software, nor simply that Gyllenhaal and Hathaway look like movie-moppets, hyperreal, almost digital creations. (Contrast their far superior performances as a screen couple in Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain.) It isn’t just the laughable unrealities: Maggie is supposed to earn a living at some Starbucks-style coffee house; the rest of the time she works on artistic creations, involving Polaroids, in a palatial boho loft apartment. It isn’t even the sub-Love-Story gender stereotypes: a woman falling for a man with Parkinson’s would of course be unthinkable.
What’s objectionable about this film is the feeling that you’ve been made the target of some misdirection scam: a cinematic three-card trick. In theory, the movie is all about Jamie’s love for Maggie, with her (tastefully rendered) early-stage Parkinson’s. But the real truth of this film is happening elsewhere: in its general PR for Pfizer and the celebration of its masterpiece, Viagra. The film was based on an insider memoir by a former Viagra salesman. His story is sentimentally reinvented for the screen. In falling for a woman with Parkinson’s, our hero becomes emotionally and morally potent. In terms of decency, maturity and taking responsibility, he learns to get it up. Avoid this sickly-sweet, dishonest nonsense.
Over the past four decades, Dr. Alexander “Sasha” Shulgin has created more than 200 psychedelic drug compounds, many involving MDMA—better known by its street name, ecstasy. The Northern California–bred scientist is the subject of a new documentary, Dirty Pictures—so named for the sketches of chemical compounds on the vials in Shulgin’s lab—though he is hardly a hedonist. Although the gray-bearded, tremulous-voiced Shulgin looks every bit the wizardly counter-cultural alchemist, the film depicts him as a serious researcher intent on expanding the frontiers of the mind; to him, psychoactive drugs are a gateway to true self-understanding and a potential salve for depression.
A former chemist for The Dow Chemical Company, the 85-year-old Shulgin left the corporate world in 1965 to pursue his preferred research, which he conducts from a ramshackle lab in the back of his Berkeley-area bungalow. (Shulgin won’t reveal the exact location of his house—though, he says, he no longer works with MDMA or other classifiably “illegal” drugs.) He met his wife, Ann, in 1979, and they immediately bonded over a mutual interest in visionary plants. At age 79, she is his research and writing partner. Dirty Pictures shows the Shulgins’ sampling new drug compounds with friends and associates—they call this experimenting. These scenes are intercut with the Shulgins’ travels—to the Burning Man festival in Nevada, to Egypt, to a symposium in New York City—and interviews with an amiable DEA agent and a chemist who’s developing psychedelic drugs for use in medicine but has never actually tried them himself.
MICHAEL MARTIN: How did you feel about how you’re portrayed in the documentary?
ANN SHULGIN: I was just very sad that the whole thing wasn’t done after I lost 35 pounds. I think they did a great job. I very much enjoyed it. Of course, Sasha is almost blind, so he couldn’t very well see what’s on the screen.
SASHA SHULGIN: It’s probably just as well.
MARTIN: Sasha, it’s your birthday today. How are you going to celebrate?
MARTIN: Are you going to do any experimenting?
ANN: No time for that. People are dropping in.
MARTIN: In the film, you seem to have a large social circle. Who are those people who are always hanging out at the house?
SASHA: [laughs] You handle that one, Ann.
ANN: There are a lot of people in the world who are interested in the action of these materials. And I don’t know how many people have come up to Sasha, or to both of us, and said, “You’ve changed my life.” Many have found perhaps they were in a state of severe depression, and they’ve taken MDMA.
SASHA: We haven’t changed their lives—they’ve changed their own lives.
ANN: And MDMA helped them gain access to parts of themselves that they hadn’t been able to open up before. It’s a very important experience for a lot of people. We have friends who don’t use psychoactive materials but who are still interested in how the brain works and psychology and spiritual training. It’s a very large and very intelligent bunch of people. We have two big parties each year where people bring food and drink and get to know each other. It makes a very good party.
SASHA: We have two rules: One is that you can’t come before noon. The other rule is you can stay as long as you want.
MARTIN: When you take MDMA, are you still able to discover new parts of yourselves?
ANN: We don’t take it now. It’s a scheduled drug [categorized as a Schedule 1 drug, which, according to the DEA, has no medical use and a high potential for abuse], so we don’t take it.
SASHA: Scheduling of drugs is a government problem, not our problem. They want to schedule something, that’s their problem. My feeling of creation is to make new drugs. They’re new drugs, so they’re unscheduled. They’ve never been made before.
ANN: We don’t have any scheduled drugs in the lab or house. We are always aware that the DEA is very interested and very hostile, and so we have no intention of doing anything that would tempt them to invade us again.
SASHA: Once they’ve made something scheduled, three or four years after I’ve invented it, I just throw my samples into the fireplace.
MARTIN: What are these new drugs you’re making?
SASHA: New psychedelic drugs, new materials that are totally unknown.
MARTIN: Are you concerned with taking these drugs? You don’t know how much to take or what effect they’ll have on you.
SASHA: Every brand-new drug is without advance knowledge. There’s no way of knowing. You take an amount that’s so small it’s not active. How much would you take?
ANN: The smallest amount. A nanogram.
SASHA: A nanogram may be potent material.
ANN: Then I would ask you.
MARTIN: Can you describe what you’re aiming to create—the optimal psychedelic drug?
SASHA: Optimal? No. If I had a vision of the perfect psychedelic drug and knew its structure, I’d make it. That’s why I have a laboratory out there—to make things that haven’t been made before.
ANN: Besides, every person’s body chemistry is different. The effect of one single drug that appeals to Sasha or to me might have a different effect on someone else. There’s no way to tell what the perfect psychedelic drug would be, because it would be perfect for only you.

MARTIN: Sasha, a 2005 New York Times Magazine profile of you was titled “Dr. Ecstasy.” In the film, it’s said that you resent that label. Why?
SASHA: Well, first of all, I don’t know what “Dr. Ecstasy” means. Define ecstasy. What does it mean?
ANN: On the street as a drug, it means anything the chemist wants to put in it.
SASHA: Therefore it has no meaning.
ANN: The term ecstasy is a street name. The drug is illegal, and there is no quality control. There is no way to tell if there is any MDMA in it. One research group found that at a particular rave, one third of what was being sold as ecstasy had some MDMA in it. The rest did not, which is one of the dangers of making things illegal. There’s no protection. The authorities feel there should be no protection, but their views are somewhat different than ours.
MARTIN: The film shows you visiting Burning Man, which is not exactly known for pharmaceutical purism. But we never learn how you feel about the festival.
ANN: Approximately one third of the people at Burning Man take psychoactive drugs. The rest take alcohol. There’s not that much psychoactive drug taking.
SASHA: I think a lot of people assume they gather doped-out on psychoactive drugs. They don’t have them; they don’t even want them. They just happen to take a little bit of something or another and turn on and spin around a while.
ANN: If you haven’t been to Burning Man, you should do it once. It’s an extraordinary experience. Some of the best artwork I’ve ever seen in or out of a museum. Amazing. We’d love to go back, but it’s too expensive.
SASHA: We’ve been there three times, and that’s enough.
MARTIN: When you take drugs in the film, you call it experimenting. Do you ever call it getting high?
SASHA: No, because you don’t know if you’re going to get high! It’s new material, so it’s an experiment. About 99 percent of the time you take a drug, you have no effects at all. You continue on your normal day’s pattern, and then two days later you take another drug, and then three days later, you take another. You don’t go back to the same drug for another week or two or three.
ANN: That’s what we used to do. We haven’t done it for about five years. As you get older, the drugs have more effect than they did when you were younger. We have to cut down. At the moment, Sasha is on some medication that has the effect of extenuating psychedelics, so we have to be careful.
MARTIN: You haven’t taken anything for five years?
MARTIN: When you do, do you still learn new things about yourselves?
SASHA: Oh, yes. One of the most interesting people to learn about is yourself.
ANN: You contain a universe inside yourself. There’s no end to it—your conscious, your subconscious. There is no limit to what’s inside you. We are very much connected. There’s no end to it.
MARTIN: How often do you experiment?
SASHA: Not as much as I have in the past.
ANN: He’s been working on the book for five years. It’s just about two weeks away from being finished.
SASHA: It’s been that way for a year and a half.
ANN: But this time we think we have it.
MARTIN: What is the book about?
ANN: It’s called The Shulgin Index. It’s a reference book. Tania: It’s modeled after The Merck Index. There are probably 127 main entries of phenethylamine compounds and mind-altering drugs. They give you melting points, syntheses, human, and animal studies.
SASHA: One thing about it is that it’s just as viable to the authorities as to the psychedelic chemist. It has all factual material, and every comment that’s made is documented, tells where it’s been published. The authorities love that because they can go and get the originals. And people who are into psychedelic drugs can go and get the original. It’s of value both to law enforcement and people who are into psychedelic drugs.
MARTIN: Have you invented anything you consider to be as important as MDMA?
SASHA: I like 2C-B. I invented that. I don’t tend to go back on things that are known. I look for new things.
MARTIN: Once you invent something, what happens to it?
SASHA: I let others make it if they want to, or make it commercially if they want to. I want nothing more to do with it.Tania: If you investigate 2C-B, it became commercially available in Germany. It was called Nexus. And a South African tribe used it as a sacramental medicine. Then it became Schedule 1, and that’s it.
MARTIN: In the film, you describe one experiment you did together: You took a drug and concentrated on the hands of the clock. The hands got slower and slower until they threatened to stop. Sasha, you freaked and pulled yourself out of there.
SASHA: Put yourself in that place. If you’re looking at the hands of the clock, and they get slower and slower, what do you think is going to happen? I’m glad I got out of there before we stopped.
ANN: I think we could have gone further. He chickened out.
MARTIN: Your relationship is one of the most interesting things about the film. It’s a true romantic and professional partnership with roots in a pretty obscure interest.
ANN: The first conversation we ever had was about different things that altered consciousness. I had experienced one kind. He had a fascination with plants.
SASHA: Different channels, but the same interest.
ANN: He’s the scientist, and I’m the—
SASHA: You’re the artist.
ANN: I’m interested in the sensual aspect of the experience.
MARTIN: The film shows you being questioned at your house by authorities. Does that happen often?
SASHA: Not anymore. They came back one time, something about having seen something illegal in our back room. I was put out in their car—it was two o’clock in the afternoon, and by about 10 at night, they had gone through everything and maybe realized they had made a mistake. So half of them went home, and the other half started talking with us, and we invited them to stay for a cup of coffee and a glass of wine. They said, “What are you doing with illegal drugs?” And I said, “I don’t have any. The ones that are made illegal, I destroyed them.” What is it they’re making illegal? Things that I’ve found to be active and interesting. They’re making them illegal—it’s their problem, not mine. Once they realized there was nothing here to be found, they stopped coming.
MARTIN: Sasha, do you still have any relationship with the DEA?
Tania: Sasha has friends in the DEA he can’t talk to anymore. Their lives and careers are on the line—they have to report everything—so they can’t talk anymore.
ANN: Chemists love chemistry, and the chemists with the DEA are just as interested in the chemistry of the drugs. But the situation the way it is now, they can’t keep in contact with Sasha. They’re afraid of contamination.
MARTIN: You discuss the concept of consciousness in the film. Are you any closer to determining what that is?
ANN: I think the answer is in the spiritual realm. That’s not very scientific.
MARTIN: Do you think about mortality or wonder if your consciousness will extend beyond this physical realm?
SASHA: I think when you die, you die.
ANN: Of course I think exactly the opposite.
MARTIN: Do you ever argue about that?
ANN: We respect each other’s views. There are some things you don’t argue about because it’s a waste of time.

«Love and Other Drugs» stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Jamie Randall, a pharmaceutical salesman who sells love, Zoloft, Viagra and other products with equal sincerity. He’s a charmer, determined to sell his way out of Ohio and into the big Chicago market, and if that involves flirting with the receptionists in doctors’ offices, it’s a tough job but somebody’s got to do it.
The movie takes place at that point in the 1990s when Viagra was tumescing in the marketplace, and Jamie is riding the success of his employer, Pfizer. He infiltrates hospitals, befriends doctors, pushes drugs and sabotages the best efforts of his aggressive rival Trey Hannigan (Gabriel Macht), whose product Prozac is outselling Zoloft. Whether these products, or any of their products, works very well is not a concern of the salesmen. They sell.
James is egged on by his supervisor Bruce Winston (Oliver Platt), and it seems quite possible he’ll make it to Chicago when his life makes an unexpected course correction. He’s buddies with Dr. Stan Knight (Hank Azaria), who introduces him as his intern and allows him to observe as he palpitates the breast of his lovely patient Maggie Murdock (Anne Hathaway). Strictly speaking, doctors aren’t supposed to do that. Maggie discovers the fraud, and in the course of an argument with Jamie about it they both grow so passionate that, well, they rip off each other’s clothes and fall upon a bed in a confusion of sheets and moans.
Maggie and Jamie discover that they really, really like each other. She has something she wants to tell him. She is in the early stages of Parkinson’s disease. This introduces an unexpected note into what seemed to be a screwball comedy. Hathaway brings such tenderness and solemnity to her role that she moves the film away from comedy and toward “Love Story,” and from then on, we never quite know where we’re headed.
The emotional tug-of-war intensifies because of the presence of Jamie’s brother Josh (Josh Gad), who seems to have been imported directly from an odd buddy movie. Josh is helpless in the area of appropriate behavior, seems to have selected his wardrobe in high school for the rest of his life, has made millions of dollars in the markets and has a disastrous personal life. Although he could buy a hotel, he lacks the skill or the courage to check into one and seems intent on living for the rest of his life on the sofa in Jamie’s small apartment.
That would be permissible in another kind of movie. Not in this one, where matters grow serious between the two lovers — so serious, indeed, that they begin to discuss how their love will prevail through the difficult road ahead. The movie gives full weight and attention to the subject of Parkinson’s and doesn’t trivialize it or make jokes (how could it?).
But the more weight the story of Maggie and Jamie takes on, the more distracting is the screenplay’s need to intercut updates on the pharmaceutical wars. Nor do we continue to care much about Bruce and Trey. The movie’s most effective single scene occurs at a meeting of people with Parkinson’s and their loved ones. The husband of a victim describes to Jamie in stark, realistic detail the possible course of the disease and how it may affect the woman he loves. After this scene, the movie has definitively introduced a note that makes the rest seem trivial.
The director is Edward Zwick, a considerable filmmaker. He’s essentially working with a screenplay (by Charles Randolph, Marshall Herskovitz and himself) that doesn’t work. Given that problem, you have to observe that he is a capable filmmaker even in bad weather. He obtains a warm, lovable performance from Anne Hathaway and dimensions from Gyllenhaal that grow from comedy to the serious. The scene with the husband of the Parkinson’s survivor has a simple grandeur. As a filmmaker by nature, Zwick gives that scene its full weight, no matter that it’s not a good fit in his movie. That counts for something.

Об этом фильме и писать бы не стоило, если бы не исполнительница главной роли, Энн Хэтэуэй. Ее присутствие делает этот фильм заметным уже на уровне афиши – имя прочитаешь, фотографию увидишь, и решишь посмотреть обязательно. А торопиться не стоит.
Да и третий персонаж, исполнитель главной мужской роли, Джейк Джилленхол, фигура, в общем-то, заметная: по крайней мере, его выразительный воловий взгляд запомнился со времен «Горбатой горы»…

По той же причине и главная героиня – цветущая полногрудая (в чем зрителю тоже каждые пять минут дают убедиться воочию) и пышноволосая дама в полном расцвете сил, на самом деле, не так уж бронебойно здорова, (как демонстрирует нам то и дело: я и прямо! Я и боком! С поворотом и с прискоком!)
На самом деле, как вы могли уже догадаться, она неизлечимо больна… А какой еще может быть главная героиня фармацевтического фильма? Это она просто выглядит хорошо, но часы… ладно, дни, а может быть, даже годы ее – но все равно, сочтены и идут к закату, так что ее неуемная … способность обходиться без Виагры… не должна никого шокировать: она пьет вино жизни залпом, чтобы ничего не оставить на донышке, если там вдруг чего-то останется, а ее болезнь Паркинсона уже возьмет верх над … жизнелюбием… В общем, чтобы не было мучительно больно (опять – фармакологию на помощь!) за бесцельно прожитые годы.
Язвительность, в другой раз может быть и не уместная при разговоре о неизлечимо больной героине, на этот раз оправдывается – во-первых, как уже было сказано, цветущим видом больной, во-вторых, ее личностью. То есть – личностью исполнительницы.
Актрисе Энн Хэтэуэй, вероятно, наскучила харизма белой и пушистой героини, к которой привыкли ее поклонники, (и которую она только что воплотила во весь рост в представившейся роли Белой Королевы в фильме «Алисе в стране чудес»). Сколько можно! – наверное, говорит себе Энн Хэтэуэй, то и дело в последние годы встревая вовсе в неочевидные проекты. Даже «Горбатая гора», в которой они впервые вместе с Джилленхоллом играли пару – при всех своих Оскарах и наградах – парни там засветились, их запомнили… А девушки? Вы и не вспомните, что жена одного из немужественных ковбоев – это Энн Хэтэуэй. Она и играла такую – никакую – жену. А зачем такой выразительной актрисе и яркой красавице играть – никакую?
Энн Хэтэуэй – яркая романтическая и комическая героиня. Не лишенная драматизма, да! Но не порнографическая же звезда на детском сеансе! Никакой другой нагрузкой создатели фильма режиссер и сценаристы роль Энн Хэтэуй в фильме «Любовь и другие лекарства» не нагрузили, да и весь фильм – никаким другим содержанием, сочтя, что и этого – взрывного необузданного секса со случайным партнером – уже больше, чем достаточно. Хотя зритель терпеливо ждет.
Вульгарно вести себя рано или поздно хочет каждая хорошая девочка, пережить период цинизма – и выйти обновленной, это понятно. Но стоит ли при этом присутствовать зрителям, не нуждающимся в Виагре – большой вопрос.

J.J. Abrams And Stephen King Team For Billy Summers Limited Series Adaptation
One of the biggest names in horror racks up another adaptation of his original material. Bad Robot Productions, J.J. Abrams’ production company, will be developing a limited series adaptation of Stephen King’s best-selling 2021 novel «Billy Summers.» Ed Zwick («Courage Under Fire») & Marshall Herskovitz («Love and Other Drugs») will handle the adaptation, which Deadline reports will aim for six to ten episodes with Zwick in the captain’s chair. Bad Robot has nothing to say about it yet, but the series will be shopped around to the major cable networks and streaming services. This marks Bad Robot’s fourth series adaptation with King.

The long-awaited fourth season of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” isn’t the only new thing coming to Amazon Prime Video in February. Below we’ve assembled a full list of every new movie and TV show being added to the streaming service this month, including both Prime Video originals and library titles.
The new season of the Emmy-winning “Maisel” arrives on Feb. 18, the same day the first season of the new animated series “The Legend of Vox Machina” drops. But on Feb. 4, Prime Video will debut the brand new original series “Reacher,” based on author Lee Child’s beloved Jack Reacher book series. The new show stars Alan Ritchson in the titular role, putting a new spin on the character who was previously played by Tom Cruise in two feature films.

Highlighting Amazon Prime Video’s list of new releases for February 2022 is Reacher, the saga of one very large boy. Reacher premieres on Feb. 4 and is based on the Jack Reacher book series by Lee Child. The titular hero (played by Alan Ritchson) is a former major in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps who now travels the country looking for trouble to get into. His hands are very large.

George Segal Dies, Veteran Actor and The Goldbergs Star Was 87
Veteran actor and career funnyman George Segal, known for starring on The Goldbergs and appearing in dozens of movie roles over the past several decades, has sadly passed away. According to his wife, Sonia, Segal died of complications from bypass surgery in Santa Rosa, California. He was 87 years old.
Born on Feb. 13, 1934, George Segal took a very early interest in acting. After graduating from George School boarding school, Segal would go on to graduate from Columbia College of Columbia University in 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts in performing arts and drama. He would then serve in the U.S. Army, but continued to perform as a banjo player in a band called Corporal Bruno’s Sad Sack Six.

Но и этого, видимо, оказалось мало, ибо тут же наняли банду из трех сценаристов, дабы они превратили литературную писанину в киногеничный апофеоз юмора, романтики и крокодиловых слез. Режиссер Цвик ведь мастер гоп-стопа в стиле «отдавайте ваши деньги, а то я вам «Легенды осени» покажу». Его новое детище обязательно посмотрят все восторженные девушки, потому что их мозги – в бессрочном отпуске, а фильм мало того, что про любовь, еще и с Джейком Джилленхолом. Оставшаяся часть потребителей устремится в кинотеатры из-за голой Энн Хэтэуэй.
Вы будете смеяться, плакать, сопереживать, умиляться – и все из-за вывиха наивности и ампутации здравомыслия, потому что под легкими одеяниями житейской истории с элементами сказки скрывается расчетливое манипулирование чувствами. Рубаха-парень, идеальный продавец и Казанова на полставки – Джейми, – закрутив любовь в подсобке магазина, сбегает из-за боязни физической расправы. Хотите посмотреть фильм, в котором полно обнаженки, но нет эротизма, герои то ссорятся, то мирятся, но зачем – непонятно, фильм, сюжет которого в различных вариациях вы видели десятки раз, а финал – просто сносит розовой жижей романтизма? Тогда вам сюда. Может даже возникнуть иллюзия, что история поражает своей оригинальностью. Но эта оригинальность сродни новым игрушкам на старой пластмассовой елке. Все гэги возникают из трех источников: нестандартные отношения Мегги и Джейми, пара чудаков второго плана и конфузы на почве секса. Главные герои настолько искушены в адюльтерах, что типичный флирт для них совсем скучен, поэтому говорят они, как пара профессионалов, обменивающихся опытом. Уже смешно, а тут еще озабоченный брат Джейми, а за ним безумный коллега, раз от разу появляется стареющий доктор – любитель молоденьких дам. Но оказывается, что настоящие шутки выдают только больные Паркинсоном. Они смеются над своей болезнью, и это действительно доставляет… Из неважного: Хэтэуэй играет очень натурально, очень живо, и есть подозрение, что на «Золотой Глобус» ее номинировали не только из-за большой груди.
Действие фильма относится к началу 90-ых, на что указывают коммерческий бум «Виагры» и смешные мобильные телефоны с антеннами. Чтобы натурально изобразить болезнь Паркинсона, Хэтэуэй брала уроки у актрисы, страдающей этим недугом.

Нет, конечно, промоутеры постарались по возможности сместить акценты — если судить по трейлеру, перед нами должен предстать чуть ли не эдакий парафраз таких знаковых поколенческих фильмов как «Здесь курят» или «Оружейный барон» (накрайняк сойдёт «Мне бы в небо»).
В кадре кипит виагромания начала XXI века, главный герой, ко всему, в промышленных масштабах приторговывает прямым конкурентом такого же знакового для современной американской культуры «Прозака». Ну и вообще, фармацевтические корпорации, разгульная жизнь, тотальная безалаберность очередного «поколения икс», на этот раз нашедшего себя не в рок-н-роле, не в наркотиках, но в патентованных препаратах, отпускаемых по рецепту.
И никакого обмана, всё это в фильме действительно есть. Оптимизм, переходящий в эйфорию. Бум дот-комов, сменяющийся ещё большим бумом деривативов. Блеск и нищета американской страховой медицины. Аллегорическая подковёрная возня одного фарма-монстра с другим таким же.
Можно, конечно, предложить известную натяжку, мол, ранний Паркинсон — это и есть приговор американской культуре «нулевых», но увы, в этом печальном заболевании куда больше от «Хауса» (тут следует перечисление всех симптомов, неверных диагнозов, экспериментальных методов лечения и, наконец, приговор), чем, например, от финчеровского «Зодиака».
Потому что мелодрама — жанр в общем самодостаточный, дополнительных мотиваций и экивоков не требующий, тем более, когда в кадре два таких характерных актёра как Хэтуэй и Гилленхааль. Они ссорятся, мирятся, плачут, смеются, боятся друг друга до нервной дрожи и по десять минут кряду проводят в кадре голышом. Это всё настолько хорошо само по себе, включая небольшой элемент специально подпущенной одноногой собачки, что все возможные попытки привнести в сторилайн какие-то дополнительные смыслы обречены на провал. Если бы Марлу Сингер играла Джоли, про паланиковское террористическое мыловарение можно было бы благополучно забыть.
Так что вот. Шли мы на обещанное киновысказывание, а получили абсолютно классический ромком в модном нынче стиле «всё в одном», когда и трагедия, и фарс, и видовые красоты, и инди-саундтрек (включающий, кажется, песни с половины альбомов последних лет по Регину Спектор включительно), разве что беременности в кадре так и не случилось. Свой элемент обмана зрителя в таком подходе есть, но, право, жаловаться на эдакую «сладкую ловушку» как-то не приходит в голову. Цвик молодец, вэлком бэк ту инносенс.

В фильме как-то поднамешано жанров, это сбивает с толку, моментами скучно смотреть. Вроде сильная пара Джилленхол-Хетеуэй, а кино получилось посредственное, не цепляет в полной мере. На разок. 4
А можно подробней о «поднамешано жанров»? Мне что-то кроме «драма» ничего в голову не идет.
Может я не так выразилась, прошу прощения. Хотела сказать, что начиналось все как комедия про супер-таблетку, а закончилось дикой драмой, была бы логика, если бы она от этой таблетки страдала, так нет, вот этой важной связи и не хватает в этом сценарии, на мой взгляд.
Не сказал бы, что сюжет банален, в конце концов все подобные фильмы снимаются об одном и том же, а одно и тоже, как правило, происходит по одной и той же схеме. Фильм качественный, хорошие актеры, много крепкого юмора и при том не пошлого, и не глупого. Не назвал бы это драмой, как писали некоторые «ценители», фильме практически совсем нет моментов, где неплохо было бы прослезиться, то есть, что я хочу сказать, он просто поднимает настроение, и все время идет на одной волне, позитивной, надо заметить.

Когда я смотрела «Спеши любить» он ничуть меня не зацепил. Актёрам просто не верится. А рыдающей Хэттуэей хочется верить и верится.

Charles Randolph is an American screenwriter and producer for film and television. Randolph was born in Nashville, Tennessee. He was a cultural studies and philosophy professor. At age 33, Randolph spent a weekend in Los Angeles giving lectures at the University of Southern California.
