Book 1 v1.2.1 is the remaster of Book 1, adding more animations, more visual effects sequences, re-rendering of some of the oldest scenes, color-correction and tuning, and reframing. It’s 10-15 hours of normal gameplay, in addition to the replayable Paths of Elsewhere.

Sounds interesting? Here’s a look at gameplay from the early part of the game; the player has just arrived in Edinburgh, and meets two of the key characters in the story. You also get to see the combat mechanic.

As the game progresses, the world opens up, and you’ll have more freedom. Encounter different characters, train in the gym or enhance your skills, read books and drink coffee, or hang out at the pub working. There’s also a replayable dungeon world, the Paths of Elsewhere, which you can explore.

Development on Love of Magic is divided into Acts, with each Act being planned as a

2 hr episode. Each Act has certain fixed events tied to the calendar, interspersed with free time where you can improve your character, chase girls or hunt on the Paths of Elsewhere. Time is limited; each Act has a fixed number of days, so use your time wisely. With Act VI, Book 1 of Love of Magic is almost done.

Walkthrough Book 1

Contents

The main story of Love of Magic takes place at its own pace, and there is no way for the player to skip or miss parts of it. Therefore the Book 1 walkthrough focuses primarily on side-content that is missable. The events listed are in the order they can be accessed, and will list the requirements needed to unlock/trigger them.

Book 1 [ ]

Gaining access to the Paths [ ]

Prerequisites: day 3

After the inauguration, visit Katie at the gym who will tell you more about gems. Afterwards, go to your room in The Crowley to unlock the «Organize Gems» screen.

Next speak to Chloe about buying or trading gems, which unlocks the portal in the Basement. During this conversation you can even wheedle a free gem out of her (requires Charisma 6). Go to the basement to take a look at the portal.

Following your first Evoker lecture on day 5, visit the University in the morning(day 6 at the earliest) where you run into Dylan and discuss traveling the Paths. This sets a chain of events into motion ending with you, Katie and Dylan making your first trip into Elsewhere.

After this the ability to visit Elsewhere in the morning unlocks permanently on day 13.

Katie’s Strip MMA [ ]

Prerequisites: day 3

Katie originally floats the idea of a strip MMA battle at the matriculation ceremony.You can challenge her by going to the gym in the morning or the evening. In order to defeat her you will require 10+ in Strength, Intelligence and Charisma.

The fight takes place over 3 rounds, and you will be offered 3 approaches, each with their own skillcheck. To emerge victorious choose each of the approaches once. After you defeat her, she’ll offer to continue the fight on the ground, accepting will lead to a scene, refusing ends the event.

If you lose the fight, head back to Chloe at the Crowley, and purchase a bottle of whisky for Katie to get a rematch; there’s a CHR check that allows you to get a staff discount.

Katie’s Perfect Gem [ ]

Prerequisites: day 20

After the Library opens up on University (day 12, at the Evoker lecture), you’ll find the Quartermaster there. He’s able to sell you gems, but if you say that you need a special Fire Gem for a special girl, he’ll offer to sell you a True Flawless Fire gem after day 20. You can’t use it yourself, but you can give it to Katie at the Gym in the evening (even if she is not visible) to unlock an ability as well as a scene. The gem will cost you 500 pounds, though. (The option is visible after you ask him «Can you get me some fire gems?»)

Olivia’s CM Lesson [ ]

Prerequisites: day 14, purchased at least 1 gem from the Quartermaster

When speaking to the Quartermaster, he’ll inform you there’s a private library with a cute assistant upstairs where you can study in quiet. The assistant (Olivia) has got a couple of discussions about magic, and how she’s being stopped from finding the truth. The final conversation is about her discovery of a book on Ceremonial Magic.

Next morning when you go to the University, Katie will find you and mention that she helped someone get into the Ceremonial Magic chamber.

Perfect Black Rose, part I [ ]

Prerequisites: day 3, 10 Charisma

One of the books available from the bookseller Diana is «The Exquisite Art of Domination». If you purchase it and then read from it twice at Starcucks you’ll notice the barista Jenny seems quite interested, leading to a conversation where Jenny mentions dreaming of being dominated by a tall dark handsome stranger, who leaves commands accompanied by a perfect black rose.

After gaining access to Elsewhere the player will be able to find a Black Rose at treasure sites (note: In the final release, you must read the book twice before you can find a black rose.) After obtaining one, return to Starcucks to read from the book once again and consider how to proceed. Go back to the bookshop to purchase pen and paper, then use the computer in the bedroom to order the requisite toy, which Chloe will hand over the next day.

Return to Starcucks, order coffee, set the plan in motion and on the next visit behold the results.

While this sidequest requires quite an investment in both time and money, it does come with some perks aside from the obvious one. Not only will Jenny now serve coffee for free, but she’ll also be willing to keep the coffeeshop open at night so the player can use that time to read books.

Perfect Black Rose, part II [ ]

Once you’ve cleared Black Rose I, Jenny will start serving your coffee for free. She’ll also stay open at night, if you ask her. Bring a second black rose to her at night to trigger Black Rose II

Perfect Black Rose, part III [ ]

Visit Olivia in the private library following her encounter with the denizens of Elsewhere, then go to Starcucks at night. If she tells you all about the event in DGN1, you need to come back another time for this quest to trigger. You will also require another Black Rose.

Meeting Bella [ ]

Prerequisites: Day 20+ (but not possible until Day 21)

Bella is the only companion who requires a small quest to be added to the party.

Catgirl Outfit [ ]

Prerequisites: day 44

A couple of days after purchasing the lingerie for Emily, you get the idea to purchase something nice for Chloe. Purchase it in the Browser, wait for next day to have it delivered, then have a shower at night.

Nice Kitty [ ]

Prerequisites: day 65, Catgirl Outfit

Since buying nice things for Chloe is obviously the way to go, another purchase becomes available on day 65. Take a shower at night (at least 1 day after purchase) to see how she feels about it.

Swimming with Emily [ ]

Prerequisites: day 47

After the outing to the beach, your computer will remind you that Emily’s never had a swimsuit, and never learned to swim. Purchase the swimsuit to unlock a date with her next Wednesday morning. If you miss the next Wednesday you can complete this on another Wednesday when Emily is available.

Snowdrop’s Troubles [ ]

Prerequisites: Access to Elsewhere, Crowley upgrade level 1, 20 Charisma

Snowdrop shows up once you start upgrading the Crowley (by finding special ingredients in Elsewhere, and giving them to Chloe). You first encounter her at tier 1, in the Evening. Talk to her to advance the story(requires CHR 20), and upgrade the Bar to tier 3 (unlocking night-time sessions) to talk to her again. She’ll show up next time you grab a a shower, and offer to help you out. Accept, and she’ll tell you how she’s being harassed in Elsewhere. Next time you’re in Elsewhere, you’ll find her lounging at the Shrine, and she’ll lead you to the silly little creature bullying her. She’ll give you a Rage7 gem as a reward.

Note that completing Snowdrop’s fight ends the outing to Elsewhere, so if you want to get the most out of your morning save the shrine till you only have 1 action left.

Hitting the books [ ]

Prerequisites: day 60

Visit the bookstore and speak to Diana to find Dylan receiving a book that should help him with his studies. Following that you’ll be able to meet him at Starcucks to discuss its contents.

Emily’s Mentor [ ]

Prerequisites: Access to Elsewhere, day Sparring with Emily [ ]

Prerequisites: day 63

Once Emily is done causing a ruckus at court and returns on day 62, starting the following morning you can invite her to the Glade to practice the sword in a sparring match, with a kiss as your reward should you best her.

In order to stand a chance you require at least 25 in all main stats as well as 15 in swordmanship, although you gain 1 point in swordmanship each time you lose.

To complete the event and claim your reward you need to meet the requirements and the second time you take Emily sparring:

Marble Marvel [ ]

Prerequisites: day 70+

After her time on ice, Katie needs some warming up. Visit the Grassmarket at night to help her do so.

Dirty Dancing [ ]

Prerequisites: day 80

Drop by at the dance studio in the morning and show Molly the time of her life.

Threads of Love [ ]

After finding and completely reading the book Threads of Love, it is time to pass it on to your favorite bookseller. Drop by and make sure you recognize a book’s proper value (sell it to her), then visit again at night the next day.

Raging Wolf [ ]

Prerequisites: day 92

Maybe you should see how Bella is getting on now that she’s hanging out at the gym with Katie? Go visit her in the morning.

Slice of Life events [ ]

These are by their very nature random, but some completionists are curious what they all are. Note there are times when they’re turned off (before you’ve met the character, while they’re away for story reasons, and Molly has a come-to-god experience in Act II that turns off some of her Slice of Life events)

Elsewhere events [ ]

There are some rest events that trigger in Elsewhere around the fire, depending on who you brought along. Some are single-issue, others can recur.

Crowley events [ ]

As you provide Chloe with special ingredients you’ll meet some of the more interesting guests, as well as open up the opportunity to work at night. The following events are currently available:

If you desire someones love, follow these love spell instructions:

1. Cast the spell during a waxing moon, preferably on Friday. Friday is dedicated to Venus, the Goddess of love, and the waxing moon favours attraction. In addition, the gods of love are called during the ritual: Venus, Erzulie, Maria Magdalena, Shiva…. You can further support the spell by scattering orange flowers or honey on the altar, which in many cultures represent the wedding. Other tools can be designed and incorporated into the ritual using your imagination: tarot card for Love, Rune Partnership, red or green candle, sandal wood etc.

2. Mold two puppets out of clay or sew them from white cloth- one of yourself and one of the loved one. Equip them with the characteristic features of the gender and fill them with some hair or fingernails when possible. More energy you dedicate to this, stronger it will be.

Some tips for your magic practice

Today’s love magic and love spells use also modern methods, which wasn’t possible in the past. For example, love magic can use for getting partners back together their photographs. During the magic ritual, one can take photos of two people who should belong together and stick them to each other with honey. Faces on those photos should look towards each other. Then, one should put those photos under a red or green candle, and visualise strongly, that these two people are back together in love and harmony. Beware, one should feel only positive things, like being grateful for this to happen or happiness and excitement. Doubts, worries and fear, that it won’t come true, spoil the love spell and nothing will happen!

Personal things of your desired partner (for example things that he/she wore or used before), are always useful for magic of love. During the love ritual preparations, follow your inner feelings: use your favourite perfume, buy roses or other flowers, which symbolise love to you, think positively about your love. Think about what you would and should do so that your love lasts forever. Don’t recon just on your own power of imagination. Call somebody who has already passed away and who were with you in a good relationship during his/her lifetime. Promise him/her that you will take care of his/her grave, and you will pray for her/him. It is essential to fulfil these promises!

In order to strengthen the ritual, we also recommend to invite a Love God or a Love Goddess. Call just the powers you like, feel some attraction to them. It can be Erzulie, Venus, Maria Magdalena or archangel Uriel. Follow your instincts. Never forget to place some offering on your altar. After the ritual, bury the offering into the ground. Every deity has its favourite offerings, so it is important to get familiar with them before the ritual. It is not important, if you choose Jesus or Buddha, important is to know who s/he was, what s/he had done, why you have chosen him/her and what s/he likes. Offering must be of top quality and taste.

Magical practice of love spells and experience from reuniting of partners show us that best results come from binding and knotting together personal things, photos and/or writings. If we want to bind two people, we bind together things, photos and offerings, which represent both of them.

Later, after the ritual, the things are buried under the strong and heathy tree, as a symbol of growth, beginning and fertility. On the other side, if we want to get rid of something/somebody, we would throw things into flowing water. If we know somebody who has passed away and we like each other before, we could bury things nearby his/her grave. If you cook something for your beloved, you give him/her good feeling and you open the door for communication. You can even increase this feeling by using the right mixtures of spices. Use those that stimulate desires and have ability to «heat». Ideal ingredient, which puts back the passion and heat to the cooled relationship, is a chilli pepper.

In general, sweet meals are better. But you should always prefer the taste of the person whom the meal is prepared for! Take enough time for preparation and if you don’t cook well, take some cooking classes! Your effort won’t go unrewarded! You can also put one drop of your blood into your meal and you can say some magical formula mentioned above.

For example: A man drunk too much alcohol and his wife left him. Man visited a magician and he did love magic. Wife returned back and man promised her he will stop drinking. After one month, he started again, so woman left him, but this time, forever, no second chance and way back!
Another example is a woman with low self-esteem. Because of this, she controls every movement of her husband. She makes dramas, when he is on Facebook or chatting with friends. „Who is this woman? There isn’t just one reason, why people get together and then break up. There is always a combination of factors. As we said before, positive energy and good communication are important. But another very important factor of balance in relationship are money. According to statistics, the most relationships end because of financial issues and fights because of money. We are speaking about situations, when people lost job or their business bankrupted. These situation are very dangerous for relationship and only strong and balanced relationship can survive this.

We would like to emphasise, that: in the most cases, financial situation cannot be separated from love. Money and health have to be taken into consideration, even when the objective is Love Magic. Speaking about health, we have to take into consideration the way of life, health care, physical activity. Speaking about finance, we have to include also education, skills and job positions of partners.

Another level is also how partners see themselves and each other. What are their interests, hobbies, what they prefer to do in their spare time? If someone doesn’t have his/her own life, hobbies interests and waits, that the partner will entertain him/her, this partner will sooner or later get bored and love will fade away.

How we perceive our own value and what we think about ourselves, reflects also in may small things in our ordinary lives. For example, the way we dress ourselves. If we don’t care about this, we cannot be surprised, that in many areas (like applying for a job, meeting a potential partner, applying for a loan), people will refuse us. Or the way, we treat ourselves and speak about ourselves. If we are not kind to ourselves, we cannot expect, that other will be!
If someone, who doesn’t think well about himself expects, that his partner will support him and tell him, that he is handsome, smart or interesting, he is wrong. People with low self-esteem, who maybe are on the surface seen as nice and successful, but inside, they feel not worthy, they will be sooner or later refused by their partners and perceived as not smart, or not successful. And their partners will think, they can find someone better.

The way we see ourselves has a direct impact on the „amount“ of our love, health and money in our lives. The scientific research proved, that people, who smile a lot and think positive are healthier and more successful than people, who don’t do that. For deeper understanding of this observation, we recommend to read the book from Mirzakarim Norbekov: The experience of a fool who had an epiphany about how to get rid of his glasses. The author proved, that a simple exercises like deep breathing, smile and basic exercises for back, have an enormous influence on our health and state of mind.

We cannot see our problems as something isolated. So, problems in love life has to be solved in a complex way, not just by finding some suitable partner asap. Problems in our life come from combination of our thinking habits, way of life, way we see the world. And in the most cases, we can solve them, if we are able to admit, that we do something wrong. There is no such a ritual you just perform and your partner is back, or you get a perfect job, or after doing such and such spell, you will be immediately healthy. Magic can make a movement in desired direction, create a chance, get new possibilities, make the healing faster. But Magic is not enough! In order to succeed, magic has to be always supported by your own change and transformation! You have to search for deeper understanding of your life. Why this situation happened? How did I get into this situation? What in me allowed this to happen? If you get a clarity about your life, why it is in certain point and where you want to move it, then you can change it and get success and satisfaction.

Love Magic Ritual: Venus

Spell for bringing partner back

Important notice: This ritual can be done only in situation, when two people are not in a contact!

The room, where the ritual is performed, should be lighted during 8 days with green light. No one should see the things connected with the ritual, so, after the magic work, hide things to a safe place.

Perform this ritual for 8 days, from one Friday to the next Friday by waxing moon, in the hour of Venus (see Venus hours chart). The moon has to be waxing during the whole 8 days of the ritual. The ritual itself lasts 7 days, 8th day is a day of finishing of the ritual.

What you will need:

7 green candles, 7 sweet green apples, 7 cinnamon sticks, 7 vanilla beans, red, green and black marker, several drops of your own blood, papyrus or parchment paper, matches or lighter, drawing-compass, rule, scissors and compass, 7 red roses (they have to be bought on Monday, at the fourth day of the ritual. If you cannot buy it on Monday, you can do it also on Tuesday, but in the hour of Venus), copper coins (49 cents), 7 green stones, green, silver and red ribbons, green bulb.

1. day (Friday): The ritual will begin exactly on Friday, in the Venus hour, at 21:00 (if there is a summer tome right now, add one more hour)

7. day (Thursday): The ritual can be done in any hour of Venus.

Love ritual instructions

On the first day, make on green, red and silver ribbon seven knots, together there will be 21 knots. Then, bind together 7 cinnamon sticks with green, red and silver ribbon.

Place on the altar 7 nice and tasteful green apples. They will stay there during all seven days.

Place on the altar (into a small bowl) copper coins with value of 49 cents. (It can be also coins of another currency, but they have to be from copper, or it can be some jewel or thing from copper.)

On the fourth day of the ritual, buy 7 roses. Before you place them on the altar, bind them together with silver ribbon (ribbon will have also 7 knots). Roses have to be fresh and nice, so that they stay beautiful till the end of the ritual!

Magical paper: draw with compass on the parchment paper a circle with the diameter of 21 cm. Construct a regular heptagon and cut it out (look at the example on the photograph).

Draw the outline of the heptagon with green marker, then, draw to the right side the green square and draw inside the sigil of Hagiel. To the left side, draw with your own blood your first name and the first name of your dream partner in a way, that they cross each other (use if possible the letters, which are the same).

Draw under your and partner’s names with green marker names Venus, Hagiel, Jahwe, and with red marker names of four archangels Raphael, Gabriel, Michael and Uriel. All names are written on the left side in a way you like. Write with black marker the name of JAHWE in hebrew below, to the right.

DAY 1: (everything is ready, including the heptagon)

Lit the candles (from left to right), sit down, relax and visualise yourself and your dream partner to be happy together. Focus on this image for at least 20 seconds maximum 7 minutes. Feel it vividly, how it is to be with him/her. Then say:

«So be it, so it is happening. I accept the will of God. Divine light, thank you for the balance and peace, which is within me. I accept everything, what I cannot change. Thank you for the courage and power to change, what can be changed. Thank you for wisdom to distinguish what is right for me.»
