Our Life: Beginnings & Always is a feel-good simulation, as well as a “feel-better” one, where painful emotions such as sadness, anger, stress, and worry can all be expressed, then met with reassurance, understanding, and support.

It’s a wholesome experience that faces large stepping stones of life, while having a focus on familiar everyday moments. With notable amounts of customization for even tiny details, you can enjoy pleasures as simple as having a preferred type of drink and a neighbor who cares enough to remember what it is. [1] [2]

Synopsis [ ]

Jamie Last (changeable name) has spent the last couple weeks on a summertime high. At eight-years-old, nothing is better than what feels like endless days of school-less adventures, especially when you live walking distance from the beach. While coming home under a scorching sunset one fine evening, Jamie is approached by a stranger. The man is looking for a kid who can do him a favor, and he’s even offering to pay for it. He wants Jamie to please be friends with his only child. The person is Mr. Holden, Jamie’s new neighbor, as well as the father of the odd, and oddly named boy, Cove. Whether Jamie wants to play along or not, Cove isn’t going anywhere. He’s present in Jamie’s life for far longer than they ever would’ve guessed.

And then the long days of vacation finally come to an end. Summer may not be able to last forever, but Jamie can take comfort in knowing it will come back again someday… [1] [2]

As of the moment, there are four DLCs for Our Life: Beginnings & Always; one for Step 1, another for Step 2, one for Step 3, and a wedding DLC for Step 4. За время прохождения однопользовательской кампании игроку предстоит принять множество сложных и судьбоносных решений, влияющих не только на лирического героя, но и на людей, что окружают его на протяжении взросления как личности. Игрок сможет кастомизировать внешность своего протагониста, и выбрать местоимение для обращения к личности. Всего, разработчиками подготовлено контента на 15-20 часов прочтения новеллы, в зависимости от принятых решений в ходе изучения игры.

Центральной линией сюжета являются отношения с Коувом, что живёт неподалеку. Игрок самостоятельно может выбирать, оставаться с ним другом до самого конца, признаться в романтических чувствах посредине истории или открыть свою душу с первой встречи. Our Life: Beginnings & Always released on November 16th, 2020. Two optional DLCs also came out on that day: the Step 1 DLC and the Step 2 DLC. The Step 3 DLC launched on April 16, 2021. Step 4 became available on September 18th, 2021. The Cove Wedding DLC released on February 7th, 2022.

Our Life will continue to have content releases. Next on the list is the Derek Story DLC. Baxter will also eventually get a DLC story.

Our life beginnings and always

Before the steps, there is the prologue. Just start a new file.

Finish the game. How you end doesn’t matter.

After finishing, start a new file.

Complete the game for the second time.

Before starting a step, you go to the screen below where you can choose the comfort and interest level by holding and moving the bar. The comforts are Nervous, Relaxed and Direct. The interests are Indiffierence, Fondness, Crush and Love.

Just start every step with each of the comforts and interests, except Love, for the achievements.

Between the steps, you go to the moments screen where you can play sub-plots.
All of the deal achievements can be done in one of the specific moments.
The choices doesn’t matter until you reach the dialog where you decide to tell about the deal.
You can tell about the deal only one time in a file.

According to the developers, you need to set your interest to “Crush” level at the beginning of Step 2 and the chance for it comes up at the start of the “And then summer ended” scenes. When you’re hanging out in your room Cove will either bring up something that happened in Road Trip and you can continue forward with that topic to confess, or if the thing in Road Trip didn’t happen the game simply asks if you want to admit to Cove what you feel for him now or not. It is possible to not wanna talk about it or to back out before following through, so it’s not a guarantee that it’ll happen.

You ask that in the moment Charity from the Step 3, when Cove goes into your room with a firefly.

According to the developers, don’t confess yourself in Step 2 or 3. In Step 3, be at interest Crush or Love. When talking to Lee on the phone at the start of Step 3 don’t say Cove is already your boyfriend. Also, don’t think about how you aren’t ready to move into a more serious relationship. Think that it hasn’t happened “yet” but you do want it to happen eventually. Choose to end the summer of Step 3 and go into the final scenes of the game. During the talk with Cove at the restaurant either stay calm or get upset and then don’t choose to want to your family there instead of Cove.

The main character is the protagonist of Our Life: Beginnings & Always. The default name of the protagonist is Jamie Last. The player will view the whole story from their point of view and are able to control their words and actions through the choices presented in the game.

Appearance [ ]

Their appearance is customizable from choosing the shape of their face to their accessories. While the player does not see the protagonist physically in the game, the choices that are made are reflected by the other character’s comments and even the main character’s thoughts.

Their default appearance is short, choppy black hair with round, black eyes and noticeable eyelashes. They also exhibit tan skin and a round face shape.

Personality [ ]

Like their appearance, their personality is completely chosen by the player; ranging from excited, calm, nervous, angry to indifferent. Based on their personality, their interactions within the game will be unique and make it easier or harder to connect (and even romance) with other characters, including their love interests.

By default, they are non-binary, but their gender identity, sexuality, and romantic orientation is chosen by the player.

Background [ ]

They were born in America as stated in «Family». Their biological parents died in an accident. It is also stated that they have biological family members, however, they were unable to take them in due to unknown reasons.

Relationships [ ]

The main character first meets Cove when they find him on the hill of their house. Their relationship is highly dependent on the player’s choices and how they feel for Cove in each step.

If the protagonist is indifferent towards Cove, they will only ever see him as a neighbor—maybe considering him someone as close as a mere acquaintance—and keeping it that way unless the player decides to readjust the interest level. Because of this, some of the main character’s outcomes in their choices are very limited, where Cove wouldn’t do some things because he doesn’t like the idea of them. One instance is where Cove won’t let the protagonist accompany him back to his house in «Sleepover» or outright telling them he does not want their balloon if they offer to give it to him in «Shopping”. In spite of the low interest level, there will still be opportunities for the protagonist to hang out with Cove; although his appearance will be limited compared to if the player is interested in him. Most of Cove’s responses the protagonist gets will be brief and cold, regardless of the choices the player makes before being given the chance to increase their interest level.

If the main character is fond of Cove, they become friends. They’re closer than they would be if they were only acquainted in the neighborhood. As they grow up together, so does their bond. Cove’s interests may possibly align with the protagonist’s as well, as shown in «Grown Up» where he’d automatically choose volleyball instead of whatever sport you may pick if your interest level towards him is at indifferent. The main character can also be deemed by Cove—since he’s the referee—as the winner of their rolling race with Elizabeth and Shiloh as shown in «Fireflies». The player can also reassure Cove that they are indeed friends once he asks them about it in «Sleepover».

If the protagonist develops a crush for Cove or is in love with him (only available in Step 3 and 4), it is possible for them to confess to him as early as the end of Step 2. By the end of step 3, the main character gets to be confessed by Cove, though this is still depending on the player’s choices. If they show interest with or date each other, the player can control some of Cove’s forwardness when it comes to their relationship. There are choices where the main character can flirt with him with compliments or even physical intimacy. Cove can reciprocate their affection in the same way, depending on the level of initiative that the player picked.

No matter how close they are, Cove always respects the protagonist. He considers them an important part of his life.

Although usually on friendly terms with one another, there are instances where the main character can also get angry and/or upset at Cove. There are options for the player to choose if they want Cove to leave the protagonist’s house in «Talks» if they have a disagreement on how to handle Miranda and Terry’s argument. The main character can also sense Cove’s temporary fury as soon as they ask Kyra about the reason she divorced Cliff.

Lee is the protagonist’s cousin and one of their closest friends. The main character is shown to hang out with her whenever they are able to. The player can also decide if they want to tell her about how they feel towards Cove. If Cove is not their crush, they can still tell her about whoever they have a crush on. If the protagonist has a crush or is in love with Cove, she always shows an encouraging side to their relationship.

She also shows a caring side in «Family» where she willingly stays by the protagonist’s side to comfort them as long as they want her to. She also respects their need for space and will stay by their side if they need the company. In «Hang«, if the main character is indifferent to Cove, she talks to them instead. She shows a supportive side to them if they feel insecure. She readily offers to pay for the protagonist in «Mall» if they forget to bring money, in which she will have a small argument with Cove that isn’t serious if they want to buy a smoothie.

Cliff [ ]

Cliff is the first character the protagonist encounters in-game, who also happens to be one of their new neighbors that moved in Step 1 and the father of Cove. The protagonist was first offered a twenty-dollar bill by him in hopes for them to potentially develop a friendship with his son and help him around the neighborhood and the places of Sunset Bird, with them having the options to either decline the note, keep it, or run away from him. The protagonist is free to choose how they feel about him, varying from thinking he’s amusing to being annoyed at his antics. They may also point out about how handsome he is, albeit not mentioning that aloud.

The protagonist met Terry through Cove, and was pleased to consider him as a friend as it was mentioned that they were considered as good company by him since they were close with Cove. With Miranda, Cove, and the main character, the four of them were able to create a small friend circle.

The player generally enjoys his presence along with Miranda’s, seeing as that they’re the closest within the group. They can also show their worry towards the duo’s friendship being tainted due to a misunderstanding that happened in between them during «Talks«, along with the protagonist and Cove thinking of ways to help Terry and Miranda sort things out.

Comfort and Interest Achievements

Before starting a step, you go to the screen below where you can choose the comfort and interest level by holding and moving the bar. The comforts are Nervous, Relaxed and Direct. The interests are Indiffierence, Fondness, Crush and Love.

Just start every step with each of the comforts and interests. The blocked interest in the screenshot above is Love and I guess it’s paid, but there aren’t achievements for it.

These three are missable. The game is a little complex in this case. The game has too many choices, but from my experience, the community feedback and achievements percentage, there are few main choices that will determine what you will get with Cove, but there are too many choices to analyse. I will write a little about where was my focus in the conversation to get the achievements. Feel free to contribute posting the statements or the screenshots so I can analyse and update the guide.

I got it before I decided to create the guide, so I don’t have the screenshot of the exact statement. But I got in my first playthough, so it’s likely you’ll get too. Stay tuned in the dialogs for the word “like” to say to Cove.

Congratulations on your wedding, everyone 🥰️! This DLC is in the running for the longest expansion word-count-wise, added way more new art assets than prior DLCs, and is very alteration heavy with tons of ways to impact the script. We went pretty all out, haha. I hope you have a nice time during this special moment in your Our Life story.

A lot has come together for this release, it’s been great to really make it happen. And this is the final major DLC we had in the original plans for our beloved Cove Holden. I can’t believe it. It’s really been a full year since Our Life: Beginnings & Always launched. I’ve had a long time to write a message for this occasion, but I’m doing it not many hours before it has to go up, aha. I could never figure out exactly what to say. A lot of Our Life itself came about the same way. I had things I knew I wanted to express and it was hard to know how, so I just started writing what I could and would see what happened.

When developing the project, I wasn’t confident that Our Life would mean what it did for me to anyone else. But over this past year the story reached so many more people than I ever would’ve thought, and it was an experience that meant something to a lot them.

Me and everyone on the team were able to make our players feel welcomed, reassure them when they were worried, calm them when they were stressed, and cheer them up when they were sad. The kind messages, thoughtful feedback, and lovely fanworks that have been sent are more than I could’ve asked for.

I’ll always appreciate that we were given the support to release Our Life on a scale that let the concept of growing up together and being yourself shine the way I hoped it would.

Thank you to everyone who gave it a chance. Our Life wouldn’t be what it is without its players and I’m so glad for that. And thanks Cove, for being such a great guy to send out the message that people are valuable just for being who they are.

But of course, it’s not over yet! There are still the extra DLC scenes coming, and the voiced name collection for Step 4 is being compiled for release soon. We’ll keep doing our best here at GB Patch for as many more years as we can 💕

Derek is a character and one of the love interests in Our Life: Beginnings & Always. He first appeared in Step 2 and eventually returns in Step 4 after his absence in Step 3.

Derek has light brown spiky hair, green eyes, and a tan skin. He wears a loose purple jersey shirt with a yellow collar, two yellow lines enveloping the tips of each sleeve and the number 87 on the middle. He also wears a black undershirt, light blue pants and black wristbands on both of his wrists. He is described to be short for his age during Step 2.

Personality

Derek is a chipper individual who greets people with a bright smile or an excited wave. He is talkative, always leading the conversation or participating in it. The protagonist notes that it is unusual for him to be quiet. He is eager to make friends and is always full of energy as shown when he tells Cove and the protagonist about Jeremy’s presence in Sunset Bird in hopes of making a new friend. He makes an effort to remain friendly even if other people are antagonistic like Jeremy was towards him and his friends.

He is passionate towards the things he wants to do; especially with sports. In «Summerwork«, he has a dilemma choosing between football and soccer. Both are viable options for him but he wants to dedicate his time to improving his skills in one of the two.

One thing noted by the characters around him, especially by the adults, is his politeness. Unlike Cove, people around him praise him for his manners. He also tries to offer his help whenever he can. By the end of Step 2, he offered his assistance to the protagonist’s moms in preparing for everybody’s meal to which they politely declined. He also offers his help to the protagonist in «Summerwork» regarding their assignment and tells the protagonist that he can lend them money if they forgot to bring some in «Mall«.

Despite being praised for his manners and even being teased by the protagonist as practically being an adult, he still has interests that the main character can describe as childish. During Step 2, he still enjoys watching movies about dinosaurs and gets excited with ride-on machines. If the protagonist tells him that these are things kids would enjoy, he would either defend them or try to convince the main character to at least try them.

Background

Derek is Mexican. He is born in California. [1] He visits Sunset Bird every now and then to hang out with Cove and the protagonist but eventually becomes too busy during the transition between the end of Step 2 and the start of Step 4. During the in-between phase, Derek is said to have attended a training camp.

There are a few instances when Derek’s family is either mentioned or interacts with the protagonist during the game. Derek’s father is his main source of transportation when going to Sunset Bird. Cliff is his business partner and entrusts Derek in his care. Derek’s mother interacts with the protagonist through telephone. Not much is revealed about her relationship with Derek and is only mostly there in the story so far to receive the main character’s calls for Derek. He has little brothers. In «Wave«, he mentions to the protagonist that he lets them win sometimes whenever they play video games, hinting that he cares for them. However, he calls them «little punks» if the protagonist is still in contact with him by the end of Step 3. It is also implied in «Summerwork» that he struggles to do his homework with them around.

Relationships

Main Character

Derek considers the protagonist as one of his good friends regardless if they like him or not during Step 2. He is always trying to help the protagonist, like offering to lend them money if they forget some in «Mall» or listening to the protagonist if they need to rant in «Wave«. In return, the player can lend him an ear by hearing out his worries by the end of Step 2 or helping him decide between football and soccer in «Summerwork«.

He also develops a crush towards them which can be shut down if the protagonist has a crush on Cove and tells Derek about this, if they are not interested in guys, if they decide not to answer his question regarding their interest in guys, or if they tell him they do not want to talk about it. Otherwise, he would try to offer a pact to the protagonist that if they are still both single after ten years, they would marry each other. The player can choose to accept this pact or not. If asked if he likes the main character, he will admit it but then proceed to tell them that they can think about it when they are older before asking them again about the pact. Later on, they can flirt with him instead of joking around if they like him.

It is up to the player if they want the main character and Derek to still talk to each other by Step 3. He retains his cheerfulness from his younger self when talking to them.

Cove is one of Derek’s close friends during Step 2. They had the chance to interact due to both of their fathers being business partners. Derek shows support towards Cove when Jeremy insults the latter; telling him not to mind it. Both of them also hang out in «Mall» along with the protagonist and Lee.

Despite being friends, their interests do not necessarily align all the time like when Cove said that he liked the scuba diving part in their parents’ business among other things while Derek preferred the business part itself. They still highly respect each other, though, with Derek always being friendly towards Cove and offering him high-fives.

If Cove has a crush on the protagonist, Derek supports their relationship and is amused by their occasional gestures like hugs, etc. He tries to give a sympathetic smile when Cove gets flustered by the protagonist’s request during «Mall», though he himself makes unintentional playful remarks like commenting on how Cove is always in the main character’s house. If the protagonist tells Derek that they like Cove and they are at least crushing on him in the interest level at the start of Step 2, he will say that he knew they would be interested in Cove. Otherwise, he would think that they are joking.

It is unclear whether or not they still talk to each other during the events of Step 3.

As the protagonist’s friend, Derek develops a friendship with their cousin and friend, Lee. He hangs out with her along with the protagonist and Cove during «Mall«. Though both are not as close to each other as they are with the protagonist, they still consider one another as friends and would chat when Cove and the protagonist are not talking to them.

It is unclear whether or not they still talk to each other during the events of Step 3.

Jeremy

When Derek first saw Jeremy, he told Cove and the protagonist about the new addition to Sunset Bird in hopes of making another friend. However, when they finally meet the new guy, he turns out to be aggressive and irritable towards them. Even though Derek tried to be friendly with him despite his unwelcoming demeanor, Jeremy will continuously voice out his complaints and then proceed to insult them. Eventually, his patience runs out and he will stop trying to make friends with the angry boy. He does, however, stop the protagonist from trying to harm him. Later on, Derek comments about how it was a shame that Jeremy turned out to be the way he was and was disappointed that they were not able to make new friends.

Cliff

Cliff is the business partner of Derek’s father. His father leaves him in Cliff’s care whenever he hangs out with Cove and the protagonist. Derek always shows him a polite side whenever he visits as a guest. He even calls Cove’s father «Sir» to which Cliff responds with an awkward chuckle. Apart from that, they do not have much interaction since the majority of Derek’s appearances in Step 2 is spent hanging out with his friends.

Terry & Miranda

Terry and Miranda relationship with Derek depends on the player’s decision on keeping in touch with him during Step 3. If they still find time to talk with Derek, Terry and Miranda will also be friends with Derek. If they eventually stop interacting after Step 2, Terry and Miranda will meet Derek for the first time during Step 4.

Our Life Beginnings and Always is the latest visual novel release from indie game studio, GB Patch; and their most ambitious project to date. While most visual novels focus on a very specific period of time, Our Life spans years, taking players through the ups and downs of growing up in the seaside town of Sunset Bird. Follow Jamie Last (name changeable), their friends and family over several summers spanning 15 years—from childhood to adolescents to young adulthood and beyond.

A twenty-dollar bill, four summers, fifteen years, and a one of a kind life.

A chance encounter with Cove Holden, a shy young boy who moves to Sunset Bird when Jamie is eight years old becomes a relationship that spans years and like the endless summer days that make up the story is full of infinite possibilities.

It was exactly a year ago that I played the first demo for Our Life and that was all it took to fall head over heels in love with the project. So, to say I was eagerly awaiting the full release is an understatement, and this game more than lived up to my expectations! With it’s breezy seaside setting, vibrant cast of characters and charming nostalgic story, Our Life is truly a one of a kind experience.

Game Details

Choice is a staple of the visual novel genre; each player interaction guides gameplay towards one of several positive or negative outcomes. But, Our Life takes a different approach that emphasizes the player experience, over whether or not you achieve a good or bad outcome. In fact there are no “good” or “bad” choices in the game, rather GB Patch encourages players to make choices that are the most meaningful to you without fear of being penalized by ridged point based mechanics. Most of the choices are color coded, but they aren’t related to specific points or effects, rather they reflect the tone/emotion behind the individual choice. Blue tends to be more straightforward, yellow more emotive, and green uncertain.

Each choice shapes your experience guiding not only the story, but how you and the characters around you grow and develop over the years. Whether you choose to be an impulsive 8 year old or a moody teen; the choice is completely yours to make. During my playthrough I made choices that were similar to the choices I made in my own life—which in any other game might have lead to a bad ending— and it was refreshing to not be penalized for being myself!

The protagonist is fully customizable, you decide their name, appearance, gender, personality, interests, relationships, and more. Each new stage opens up new key features for you to change and not gonna lie, it can be a bit overwhelming how much control you have over your own character. But, I really enjoyed playing around with the different features—like as a kid I fell off a wall and wound up getting a huge gash on my leg and as a teen I had acne, so it was cool to be able to have those features represented in my character.

The only disappointing part is that you don’t get to see your player character in the game outside of the customization screens at the start of each new step. But, it is what it is. I also want to mention that GB Patch also lets you determine how you feel about certain aspects of your appearance. Like I was pretty tall during my teen years, which at the time I was very conflicted about and I’ll be damned if the game doesn’t give you that choice!

While Our Life isn’t strictly a “romance” game, your relationship with Cove is an integral part of the story whether you choose to pursue him as a romantic partner or simply wish to keep your relationship platonic. Your choices indirectly affect how he develops as a character—his looks, interests, and personality change with him, based on your actions throughout the game. However, it isn’t apparent how they impact him until long after you’ve made them. But, if you want more control over who Cove becomes, the game does give you a chance to build your ideal version of him with the Cove Creator; which I totally used to give him glasses.

At the start of each new stage you can decide how you feel about Cove by adjusting the Comfort and Interest levels. You can choose to have your relationship develop gradually over time or start at the highest affection levels.

In my playthrough I did pursue Cove as a romantic partner, because why not, but I LOVED that the game takes it’s time building up to their relationship. You don’t get to pursue him romantically until Step 2 and even then it’s strictly puppy love. I think I had the most fun in this stage, since Cove was a bit of an awkward shy teen, so my advances were usually met with lots of blushing and cute stuttering—the scene when I tried to kiss him for the first time was HILARIOUS and I’ll admit to getting a strong case of secondhand embarrassment during the whole ordeal. The game perfectly captures the intensity and awkwardness of first love, that I found to be surprisingly realistic and definitely had me remembering some…moments from my own childhood.

It’s not until you hit Step 3 that you and Cove become an official couple and can begin being physically affectionate with one another (which you also have full control over). You take your relationship at the pace that is most comfortable to you without consequence. If you choose to take things slow, that is perfectly fine, Cove doesn’t pressure you into doing anything YOU aren’t ready for. And at least in my playthrough, Cove was the one putting the breaks on my overly active teenage hormones… but, when the hottie from across the street climbs into your window all the time can you blame me?!

I couldn’t help but fall in love with Cove, it was almost easy. He is a constant in your life and as the story progresses and you get to know more about him, he becomes an irreplaceable part of your experience. He is there when you need a confidant and while he doesn’t have all the answers and he does make mistakes, his steadfast presence is a comfort as you navigate the ups and downs of growing up. He’ll even reminisce about moments from your past and when it happens you can’t help but smile! There was a moment in Step 1 where Cove asks you what your favorite flower is (I said Peony) and in Stage 2 during your first real date he gave me a peony flower—y’all after that stunt I was a blushing giggling mess for a good 10 minutes. Now imagine a whole game full of moments like that?! My poor heart was not prepared! It was super sweet to have someone that who knows you inside and out and still accepts you for who you are. This is how you do romance, hell, there are a few otome games that need to take notes from GB Patch.

While this is very much your story, GB Patch does fill out the cast of Our Life with a host of memorable characters and I was just BLOWN AWAY by how real they all felt. They aren’t just characters in a game, they’re people and it is your interactions with each of them that shapes your experiences throughout the story. Like Cove, your family are an integral part of your life—your older sister Liz and your mothers Noelani and Pamela—they make up your whole world in the early stages of your life and it is interesting to see how you all grow and change together. I loved that the game prioritizes the family relationships just as much as it does your relationship with Cove. From finding out your adopted to figuring out what you want to do after high school, the game tackles each and every situation with the appropriate level of care.

I also have to give GB Patch kudos for including two family dynamics that you don’t often see explored in games like this. Your character has two mothers, and I can’t tell you how refreshing it was to not just see a healthy and loving same-sex relationship, but to also see them raising a family together! Your family is treated no differently than the traditional nuclear family and this was a first for me and I would absolutely love to see more games implement this in the future! Your moms in the game are everything you’d expect a parent to be, they are affectionate and warm, but the can be disciplinarians when they need to be… and they are not above making a few corny jokes from time to time.

Then you have the Holden family. Cove’s parents are divorced and while Cove lives with his dad full time in Sunset Bird, his mother is very much still a part of his life. Granted the situation takes an emotional toll on Cove early on in the game, it is definitely interesting to see how it shapes who he is and his relationships with his parents in later stages. Also, can I say Cove’s parents are both ridiculously good looking… Mr. Holden is like a fine wine, he only gets better with age. I know Cove is the love interest, but trust I took every opportunity to give my future father-in-law a hug when it was presented to me. #NoShame

I CANNOT begin to describe how perfect this game is, every moment tugs at the heartstrings. I laughed, I cried, I had butterflies, this game had me feeling things in a way no game has in a LONG time. I suppose that is a part of the charm of Our Life. Because this is your story you are much more invested in everything going on… every moment, every conversation… it’s all a part of your very own, one of a kind experience. There were times while playing the game that I thought back on some of my own experiences growing up and I couldn’t help but look back fondly on my life up until this point.

This was definitely a game I did not want to end, but as it is with most good things it was inevitable. But, GB Patch has announced that they are working on additional DLCs for Step 3 and an epilogue, Step 4, so there is plenty more content to look forward to. I can’t wait to see what else is in store for us in the future, but in the meantime, I will definitely replay the game and try some of the choices I didn’t make in my first playthrough! If it isn’t obvious, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this game, it is absolutely worth every single minute.

Например, если ваша материнская плата имеет встроенную видеокарту, но играете вы на дискретной, то Our Life: Beginnings and Always может в первый раз запускаться на встроенной, при этом самой игры вы не увидите, ведь монитор подключен к дискретной видеокарте.

События разворачиваются в летнее время, когда протагонист познакомился с мистером Клиффордом Холденом. Мужчина видит страдания своего замкнутого сына Коува, у которого в этом городе нет друзей. Cove is the deuteragonist and one of the love interests in Our Life: Beginnings & Always. He became neighbors with the protagonist after moving to Sunset Bird.

Appearance

Cove has aquamarine eyes, pale green hair, distinctively wavy eyebrows and olive skin. His hairstyle and clothes will change depending on the player’s choices or through the Cove creator before the start of each Step after Step 1.

For Step 1, Cove’s appearance cannot be changed. He has neck-length hair. He wears dark red glasses, a white sleeveless shirt, a black belt with a gold buckle over a pair of khaki shorts, white socks and black shoes. In the Step 1 DLC, he wears a sweater with two shades of brown in «Ghost«. He has a blue backpack in «Runaway«. He also wears a pink cast due to a jet ski accident. From Step 2 onwards, however, his pink cast will be gone and a thin scar will be visible on his left arm. He was 4’1» tall. [1]

Before Step 2 starts, the player can choose between a bushy or a smoother neck-length hairstyle for Cove in the custom Cove creator. For casual wear, Cove will wear either a red sleeveless shirt with lizard patterns or a navy blue shirt. For his pants, the player can choose from either one of the two striped sweatshorts, blue shorts with a green belt or brown shorts with a brown belt. He can wear an optional brown beaded necklace. He also has the option to wear a pink beaded bracelet on his left wrist and choose between two different brown bracelets for his right wrist. The player can also choose between two optional glasses for him; one with dark green rectangular frames and another with brown round ones.

For sleepwear, he will either wear a violet shirt with a compass design in the middle or a plain blue shirt. He will always wear white pants. Finally, the player can choose between a black-and-gray or a pink-and-white jacket which he wears in «Road Trip«. During «Wave» and by the end of Step 2 if he is at least friends with the protagonist, he wears a black-and-blue wetsuit. If the player has the Step 2 DLC, he wears green plaid sweatshorts at the start of «Soiree» while hanging out at the beach. If the main character invites him, he will wear a black formal shirt and black pants. He was 5’4″ tall. [1]

On the Step 3 Cove creator, the player can choose between three hairstyles for Cove: long hair hanging loosely, ponytail or short hair. He can wear one of the three optional glasses and two of the optional earrings. For casual, he will wear either a black shirt with an anchor design, a denim shirt that fades into white at the bottom with folded sleeves over a white undershirt, or a striped sleeveless shirt with different shades of yellow. He will wear green pants, black pants, beige sweatshorts, white sweatshorts or denim pants with a brown belt. Cove can wear either a silver bracelet or a black watch on his left wrist, and either a black bracelet, brown bracelet, or three bangles on his right wrist. He can wear an optional necklace with an anchor design.

For his pajamas, Cove wears a 3/4 sleeve shirt with wings design around the neck and shoulders, as well as plaid pants. The player can choose between two color schemes for both. For swimwear, he will wear either blue or pink sweatshorts. For formal wear, the player has two black long sleeve shirts as options with one of them having line patterns, and black pants with a gray belt. Cove mentions that he almost always goes barefoot wherever he goes. He wears an ORCA shirt in «Hang» and «Charity«. If the player has the Step 3 DLC, he is shown wearing a full-on black-and-yellow wetsuit in «Reflection«. The protagonist can give him a bracelet as a gift which he wears at Step 3. He is 6’0» tall. Cove has four hairstyles for Step 4: short hair, smooth wavy hair, bushy hair, and man bun. He has the option of wearing red, black, or brown glasses. He can wear black earrings, two silver helix piercings, or both. He can also have a blue water-themed or a greenish-gray spotted tattoo. He has two possible body types: slim and buff.

For the majority of the Step, he wears either a white tank top with a single dark blue chest pocket clumsily tucked into his pants, a maroon sleeveless shirt with a white anchor design in the middle, a yellow t-shirt with floral patterns at the top part, or a dark blue shirt with white flower designs across it. He has four pants options: khaki pants, denim pants, black slacks, and black plaid pants.

His accessories include red and blue bracelets clamped together, an assortment of various colored bracelets, and a single black bracelet on his left wrist, and a brown bracelet with a boat steering wheel in the middle, a gray bracelet, and a gold watch on his right wrists. For necklace, he has the option of wearing a round object resembling a small lifesaver tied to a black string, or a beaded choker. Lastly, he can wear shades with either a black or blue tint.

Cove wears a gold or silver ring if he is engaged to the protagonist and the players is okay with him wearing it. Before going to anniversary party with the main character’s moms, he changes into a white long-sleeved shirt with gray birds printed on it and gray slacks with a brown belt. He wears blue polka dot boxers in one scene. He is 6’4″ in this Step. [1]

Personality

Some aspects of Cove’s personality change depending on the player’s choices and Cove creator, ranging from warm to cold and studious to sporty. However, the game states that Cove will always remain introverted and sentimental. He is also easily flustered and described as a crybaby; he cries a lot regardless if he is sad or happy.

As a kid, Cove is blunt. He will say anything on his mind even if it leads to an argument. As a result, he always goes toe to toe with Elizabeth whenever they interact. He is also not afraid to ask questions when he wants to know something. Although his intent is harmless, his tactless curiosity has once caused Shiloh to snap at him.

However, his honesty means that he also gives out sincere compliments. This is shown when he visited the protagonist’s room after their first meeting, praising them for a drawing that they made. He also shows politeness when he looks at one of the protagonist’s seashells, displaying genuine interest for it before proceeding to reject their offer of giving it to him, saying he doesn’t want to take it from them. He often verbally expresses his gratitude to people who he thought helped him, no matter their intent.

He was also a bit cold. Unless if he is friends with them, the protagonist mentions how Cove is either always sad or disinterested and will rarely smile. He also answers as briefly as possible, especially towards his father. Nevertheless, Step 1 Cove still had a mature side. He chose to understand why Shiloh got angry at him regardless of what the protagonist says about Shiloh’s reason. As he grows up, he develops a somewhat laid-back personality. In addition, Cove either becomes more talkative or will start to keep things to himself depending on the player’s choices or through the Cove creator by the warm-to-cold scale.

Cove was also showed as somewhat of a slob. There are several instances in each Step where Cove would be shown wiping his hands on his pants after eating or mentioned to be doing so by his father. At Step 3, he also flicks salt residue from his fingers to the protagonist if the they tease him about behaving like a kid.

Background

During Cove’s first summer in Sunset Bird, he would often say that he wants to go back to his old home. Though not much is revealed about Cove’s life before he meets the protagonist, he mentions that his parents used to have a lot of arguments. According to him, they would stay in the same room only long enough to have lunch. He claims that they might have liked each other, but that their relationship was already bad when he was old enough to remember anything.

He becomes the protagonist’s neighbor after his parents’ divorce and will go to the same school as them. The rest of his childhood and adolescence is spent on Sunset Bird. The first time the protagonist meets him, he tells them that he used to own a hill back in his old home.

He would occasionally visit his mother in Nevada, usually during summer and winter breaks. He would stay in her apartment for a few weeks. She once stayed in Sunset Bird during the Step 2 summer break. Afterwards, it is implied that she had been visiting Cove every now and then while he does the same.

He mentions during «Sleepover» that prior to the one he had with the main character, he has never been to a sleepover before. It was also hinted that he had friends before meeting the main character, but claims that they are the first person he considers as his best friend if they are not indifferent towards him.

Relationships

Main Character

Cove first meets the protagonist when the latter approaches him on the hill behind the protagonist’s house. Their relationship is highly dependent on the player’s choices and the how they feel for Cove in each step.

If the protagonist is indifferent towards Cove, he sees them as just a neighbor and interacts with them only if needed. He does wants to get close to them, but respects their decision of not getting close with him. There are a couple of things he will not do with them if he does not like them like letting them accompany him on «Sleepover» on the way back to his house or outright telling them he does not want their balloon if they offer to give it to him in «Shopping«. Although both of their parents do their best to let the two of them become close with each other, they will eventually understand that Cove and the player are merely acquaintances by Step 3. There will still be opportunities to hang out with Cove; although his appearance will be limited compared to if the player is interested in him. Most of his responses towards them will be brief and cold.

If the main character is fond of Cove, they become friends. Some of his interests shift towards the protagonist’s, like him picking the same sport that they would pick in «Grown Up«. Otherwise, he would automatically choose volleyball. He will also let them win in «Fireflies» during their impromptu race with Elizabeth and Shiloh. If the protagonist develops a crush for Cove or is in love with him (only available in Step 3 and 4), it is possible for them to confess to each other as early as the end of Step 2. Depending on the player’s choices, Cove will overcome his nervousness and confess to the player by the end of Step 3. If they show interest with or date each other, the player can control some of Cove’s forwardness when it comes to their relationship. At times, Cove flirts with them; showering them with compliments or even showing physical affection depending on the level of initiative that the player picked. He is thoughtful towards them, often remembering the things that they like.

No matter how close they are, Cove always respects the protagonist. He considers them an important part of his life.

Although usually on friendly terms with each other, there are instances that Cove will get angry at the protagonist. This is shown when he storms out of the protagonist’s house in «Talks» if they have a disagreement on how to handle Miranda and Terry’s argument. He also becomes temporarily infuriated with them if they ask Kyra about the reason she divorced Cliff which dissolves after she maturely handles the question.

Cliff

Cliff is the father of Cove. After Cliff and Kyra’s divorce, they have a strained relationship. Although Cliff does his best for Cove to adjust comfortably to their new home, his son is usually cold towards him at the start of the game. There are instances where Cove would express his annoyance to his father showing physical affection towards him like patting his head and hugging him. On the other hand, there are times where Cove knows he is wrong and would apologize to his father, such as when he tried to run away from Sunset Bird in «Runaway«. During «Ghost«, Cove mentions that his father is never happy with what he does. Cliff, however, always extends his patience when dealing with Cove and chooses not to punish him if he runs away.

Depending on which Step the protagonist admits about the incident when Cove’s dad gives twenty dollars to them so they can be friends with Cove, Cove will react differently. He would be angry at his father during Step 1 and 2, but would laugh about it in Step 3. It is also shown in Step 3 that he loves teasing his father and that he would use the twenty-dollar-bill incident to make fun of him occasionally.

Throughout the years, both of them became closer. Cove has decided to open up more to his father in attempt to remedy Cliff’s impulsiveness when it comes to making other people happy. He claims that Cliff would stop doing things he thinks are good for other people when he actually knows what will make them happy. He even offers to wait for Baxter’s arrival so that he can tell his father about their new neighbor. Cove also appreciates some of the things his father does for him like giving him pet fishes or warning him in «Errands» about the plans made by the main character’s moms.

Kyra is Cove’s mother. Even though they spend little time together, he still loves and misses her. If the player has the Step 1 DLC, Cove even goes as far as to try to visit her in «Runaway» because he is afraid that she will forget him. Eventually, however, he learns to accept the decision of his parents and makes an effort to bond with both of them instead of being angry.

At the start of Step 2, he was frustrated with his mother’s surprise visit instigated by his father because it feels different to him than when he visits her in Nevada. She offers to go back and let him visit her instead, but he ultimately decides that he wants her to be there because he likes hanging out with her. Cove claims that the memories he makes with his mother are unforgettable. He makes a guess that this is because she feels like she should make an effort to hang out with her son while she still can before she returns to Nevada or Cove returns to Sunset Bird.

Elizabeth

Even though Cove does not consider Elizabeth as a friend as he declares in «Sleepover«, they do have some instances where they get along; though usually short-lived. He finds her to be very assertive and too competitive for his laid-back personality. Whenever she does things that he does not approve of or her just being bossy in general, Cove is vocal about his objection and is ready to argue with her. There are times where they may show concern for one another, but they do not get along for the most part.

Cove is easily flustered by Elizabeth’s teasing, especially when he has a crush on the main character. He responds to her by showing his annoyance. If he does not have a crush on the protagonist, he makes his own comeback against her as shown in «Roadtrip«, effectively turning Elizabeth’s teasing against her. However, they have even less interactions with each other during Step 3.

Derek

Derek is one of Cove’s close friends. They had the chance to interact due to both of their fathers being business partners. Both of them hang out in «Mall» along with the protagonist and Lee.

Despite being friends, their interests do not necessarily align all the time like when Cove said that he liked the scuba diving part in their parents’ business among other things while Derek preferred the business part itself. They still highly respect each other, though, with Cove appreciating Derek’s positive responses during their interactions.

If Cove has a crush on the protagonist, Cove becomes flustered of some of Derek’s unintentionally playful remarks like how he is always in the main character’s house.

It is unclear whether or not they still talk to each other during the events of Step 3.

Terry

Terry belongs to Cove’s circle of friends during Step 3. They bond over their mutual love for the ocean. It is shown how comfortable Terry is with Cove by the way he envelopes him in a bone-crushing hug. Later on, they hang out in «Hang» along with the protagonist and Miranda. Although he does not feel comfortable with Baxter during «Hang«, Cove will still hang out with Terry unless the protagonist gives him an excuse to go back with him to their neighborhood.

He also worries a lot for Terry. When both Miranda and Terry fought, he showed concerned for Terry by texting him to know what happened between the two of them. He becomes agitated when Terry does not immediately respond and would constantly check his phone to see if he contacted him back. While waiting, Cove would try to think of how he and the protagonist can help Terry and Miranda make up.

Miranda

If the player has the Step 2 DLC, the protagonist and Cove will become close to Miranda after attending her birthday party. Otherwise, they will still be friends with her during Step 3 after Cove becomes close with Terry.

Both the protagonist and Cove get invited to Miranda’s birthday party in «Birthday«. If they attend, completing the said moment will let them slowly improve their relationship and become friends between the events of Step 2 and the start of Step 3. By Step 3, Miranda, along with Terry, greets Cove after he gets back to Sunset Bird. They continue to hang out in «Hang» with Terry and the protagonist as friends. During «Talk«, Miranda calls the protagonist and Cove where they both try their best to reconcile Miranda and Terry after their fight.

Baxter

Cove is shown to be uncomfortable with the way Baxter talks. When Cove first met Baxter, the latter would unintentionally say things that sound flirty which the former does not appreciate. Cove can then choose to either be civil or cautious towards him depending on his warm-to-cold scale, though he voices out his discomfort with the compliments regardless. Although he does not dislike him, Cove makes an effort to avoid interacting with Baxter. He does not greet him in «Hang» unless forced to do so by the main character. If the protagonist and Cove are dating, he takes the opportunity to mention it to Baxter as soon as possible in an attempt to limit him from giving misleading praises to Cove and the main character.

Noelani & Pamela

The protagonist’s moms care for Cove. At the start of Step 1, they help Cliff in finding Cove after he runs away to the hill behind their house. They also search for him in «Runaway«, with Pamela being the one to find him. They understand that Cove is going through a lot after the divorce and assist Cliff in trying to find ways to make Cove adjust to his new life in Sunset Bird. They also make an effort to make their children befriend Cove like inviting him in «Sleepover» and being worried when he tells them he does not consider Elizabeth as a friend. When Cove and Elizabeth have a disagreement in «Grown Up» and the protagonist tells the truth about what happened, they make her apologize to him through the phone.

In future Steps, they have developed a sense of familiarity towards Cove if the player is at least friends with him since he will always hang around in their house. They even make playful remarks to tease him in certain circumstances, like if the protagonist is dating him and they comment about how clingy he is towards them in «Errands«. Despite having a cordial relationship with them, however, he is not afraid to call them out whenever they do something that he does not appreciate as shown when they abandoned him and the protagonist in the farmers’ market.

Shiloh

Shiloh feels fidgety around Cove. Although he tries his best to interact with him, Cove is indifferent towards him. They do not interact much since Shiloh is usually attached to Elizabeth. However, Cove once unintentionally made Shiloh angry by not giving him a chance to talk and saying that it’s weird whenever he turns red. In return, Shiloh snapped at him and started throwing remarks of his own. Shiloh was also shown to be suspiciously happy if Cove gets left out during «Sandcastle» when he builds a castle while Shiloh and the protagonist build houses. However, he almost always shows a polite side towards Cove; often waving at him as a greeting. Cove does communicate willingly with him sometimes and even praises his attention to detail in «Sandcastle«.

Jeremy

Jeremy and Cove are hostile towards each other due to the former’s personality. The first time they met, Jeremy insults Cove’s eyebrows after complaining about his parents. He continuously finds ways to berate Cove and the protagonist whenever he shows up in the game. Cove and the protagonist turn him into their inside joke with the former imitating his personality to make fun of him to which the protagonist can play along.

The two meet again during «Serendipity«. Although unfriendly to each other during Step 2, Cove’s view on Jeremy changes due to the latter’s major personality change. He becomes curious of what Jeremy thinks of him despite Jeremy saying that getting his opinion would be pointless. After Jeremy gives his opinion on Cove, the latter thinks that the former is not that bad after all and that he would not mind if they talked again.

Lee interacts with Cove occasionally. Though they do not talk as much, they still hang out with each other during «Mall» along with Derek and the protagonist. They do get into an argument during the said moment if the protagonist forgets their money and wants a smoothie, with both offering to pay for them, but it’s mostly harmless and temporary.

Im on MAC and have the Itch.io app downloaded onto my Mac, I downloaded the DLC from the webpage but I have no way of adding the dlc to my itch file? how am I supposed to open this so I can get the wedding ending?

The build you’re using for the main game is out of date. If you download the latest version of OL and add the DLCs to that, the error should go away! I’m glad you enjoyed it so far ^^

The save you loaded might be too connected to the error to work even with the new version. If you have a save that’s further back in the story you could try that. Or you might unfortunately have to start a new file because the save was broken. You can also try updating the Wedding DLC file itself, if you don’t have the most recent version of that. Though, I’m not sure that’d be it. It’s likely the save file.

Luckily I had another save where I’ve just finished step 4, just before starting the dlc. And it seems it’s running without any problems.

I’m sorry, Steam doesn’t support Android and it doesn’t work with Itch to give keys in return for a Steam purchase. You have to buy the game here to get the Android files.

Hello, I bought the DLC on android and I’ve been trying to download it into the game but without success. I’ve made sure to follow the instructions and moved the rpa file to the game folder, I also downloaded the lattest version of the game, but the DLC still won’t install. What should I do?

i followed the instructions for installing the voiced dlc on windows but when i open the game and click on the dlc section on the main menu it tells me that the voiced dlc isn’t installe

So, I downloaded the game to use on android and installed it, making sure to close it before adding the voiced names dlc.

Got the rpa, went to my file manager, Android, Data

There’s no subfolders within there.

I don’t think I can add the dlc if the game folder doesn’t somehow exist.

Genuinely sweet and well-crafted game! Cove is so sweet and interesting so I was delighted to see how he grew as the game progressed. I haven’t played any of the DLCs yet but I definitely will be coming back to see those eventually. Hello, I had a question on how to do the following instructions on how to play this game on Android, but both me or my step dad (who is a technician) can’t figure out what the introductions are tell us to do. Like what rpa file do I download and how do I move on from there as there is no where that I’ve seen shows where I’d get a file that has a rpa indexation. Like I downloaded the android version like it said and when the instructions said to download a rpa file and seeing the one I downloaded had a different thing in it’s name I was thrown into a loop as to what that file was or where it was. Like is it a whole other thing or is it a file within this website?

The rpa, or rpy if you had the older version, is downloaded on this page. Then you just put it in the «game» folder of Our Life. If you’re having trouble getting the file to download, maybe your Android doesn’t trust the file. This DLC is in the running for the longest expansion word-count-wise, added way more new art assets than prior DLCs, and is very alteration heavy with tons of ways to impact the script. It’s really been a full year since Our Life: Beginnings & Always launched. I’ve had a long time to write a message for this occasion, but I’m doing it not many hours before it has to go up, aha. I could never figure out exactly what to say. A lot of Our Life itself came about the same way. I had things I knew I wanted to express and it was hard to know how, so I just started writing what I could and would see what happened.

When developing the project, I wasn’t confident that Our Life would mean what it did for me to anyone else. But over this past year the story reached so many more people than I ever would’ve thought, and it was an experience that meant something to a lot them.

Me and everyone on the team were able to make our players feel welcomed, reassure them when they were worried, calm them when they were stressed, and cheer them up when they were sad. The kind messages, thoughtful feedback, and lovely fanworks that have been sent are more than I could’ve asked for.

I’ll always appreciate that we were given the support to release Our Life on a scale that let the concept of growing up together and being yourself shine the way I hoped it would.

Thank you to everyone who gave it a chance. Our Life wouldn’t be what it is without its players and I’m so glad for that. And thanks Cove, for being such a great guy to send out the message that people are valuable just for being who they are.

Lee has blue eyes, red wavy hair, and pale skin. For Step 2, she wears a sleeveless dress with pink, purple, and white patterns. She has a silver necklace and a headband. During Step 3, she wears a white sleeveless blouse and blue high waist shorts. She has a pair of earrings and a gold bracelet.

Personality

Lee is known for being cheerful. Whenever she is talking with or hanging out with the protagonist, she always shows an enthusiastic side. She likes joking around, especially with the protagonist.

She also shows a caring side for the people around her. She’s very supportive of her friends and family. She understands if they need support or if they need space and will gladly comply to what they want.

She does, however, know how to express her opinions on things she does not agree with and stand by them; like Cove pocketing a gumball or trying to pay for the main character’s smoothie in «Mall«.

Background

Lee is the daughter of one of Pamela’s siblings. She used to live far from the main character’s family and would only meet them during certain occasions. However, her family moved closer to where the protagonist is and would often hang out with them.

Lee is the protagonist’s cousin and one of their closest friends. She always tries to find time to talk to or hang out with the main character. They also has a lot of opportunities to tell her about their feelings for Cove. If Cove is not their crush, they can still tell her about whoever they have a crush on. If the protagonist has a crush or is in love with Cove, she always shows an encouraging side to their relationship.

She also shows a caring side in «Family» where she willingly stays by the protagonist side to comfort them as long as they want her to. She also respects their need for space and will stay by their side if they need the company. In «Hang«, if they are indifferent to Cove, she talks to them instead. She shows a supportive side to them if they feel insecure. She readily offers to pay for the protagonist in «Mall» if they forget to bring money, in which she will have a small argument with Cove that isn’t serious if the main character wants to buy a smoothie.

Elizabeth

Similar to the protagonist, Lee is also fond of her other cousin. They don’t hang out as much during Step 2 mainly due to Elizabeth not wanting to hang out with her family, though, so Lee hangs out with the protagonist more. However, it is implied that all three of them used to hang out a lot before Step 2. Lee worries for her during «Talks» and makes sure that she is fine.

Derek

As the protagonist’s cousin, Lee develops a friendship with their friend, Derek. He hangs out with her along with the main character and Cove during «Mall«. Though both are not as close to each other as they are with the protagonist, they still consider one another as friends and would chat when Cove and the protagonist are not talking to them. Lee also tells her cousin in «Family» that she likes Derek, presumably as a friend, and will support the protagonist if they tell her that they have a crush on him.

It is unclear whether or not they still talk to each other during the events of Step 3.

If the protagonist has a crush on Cove, she encourages developments in their relationship and is one of their biggest supporters. Though they don’t talk as much, they still hang out with each other during «Mall» along with Derek and the protagonist. She is not afraid to call Cove out when he is being a slob, however, as shown when he stows his gumball in his pocket in «Mall» if the four of them decide to buy gumballs instead of using the rides.

Pamela

Pam is Lee’s aunt. Although estranged from her family, she still talks to one of her siblings who is Lee’s parent. As a result, Lee hangs out a lot with the main character’s family especially when her family moved closer to where they live as said in the transition between the end of Step 1 and the start of Step 2. [1]

In Step 2, Jeremy has a green bowlcut hair, orange eyes, and pale skin. He wears a white polo shirt with designs on the collar and the sleeves, and gray pants. He has a wristwatch on his left wrist and brown glasses.

He appears again in the optional Step 3 DLC. He replaced his glasses with contact lenses. His hair is longer and swept back, with some of it tucked in front of his ears. He wears a gray biker vest and a brown-and-white t-shirt underneath.

Personality

Jeremy likes to complain about a lot of things. For all of his appearances in Step 2, he is always shown to be either angry or irritated. He does not care about what other people think and is not afraid to rant to strangers. He also thinks that it is useless when people try to sympathize or be nice to him.

He also does not enjoy being with people he considers idiots; which is implied to be everyone. He is blunt and usually dishes out insults at other people like taking note of Cove’s wavy eyebrows or calling the main character stupid for wearing a party hat during «Birthday«. Calling people stupid and how they «don’t know anything» are his most favorite insults.

The player, along with Cove and Liz, meets him again in «Serendipity«. He is disinterested and composed compared to his demeanor in Step 2, though he is shown to be somewhat apologetic over how he acted back then and admittedly saying that people who dealt with him before were definitely not having a good time. Despite that, he still does not consider himself as nice. He no longer has the energy to release his temper strongly; not throwing tantrums or picking fights anymore like his twelve-year-old self would. Jeremy simply admits to others that he is «just miserable».

He firmly believes that his opinion is the least important thing anyone should be worrying about, calling it pointless. He remains blunt, albeit not exactly intending to ice the mood. There is also an instance where he does not know how to accept genuine compliments thinking he is just being made fun of as shown when he groans after being called cute while blushing.

Background

It is implied through his dialogue that his father and/or mother’s relatives are residing within Sunset Bird. He is forced to go with them for a visit and presumably stays in the neighborhood for the duration of Step 2.

Relationships

Jeremy had a hostile relationship with Cove. Other than antagonizing Cove and his friends for trying to talk to him, he specifically points out Cove’s wavy eyebrows as stupid. He also goes out of his way in «Birthday» just to rant and insult Cove and the main character.

In «Serendipity«, Jeremy indirectly apologizes to Cove and the protagonist for the way he acted five years ago. After Cove makes a comment about him being nice, Jeremy does not hesitate to brush him off and deny the sentiment, saying otherwise. As the conversation goes on, Cove eventually asks him what Jeremy thinks of him. Though reluctant to comply, specifically noting how getting his opinion would be pointless, Jeremy decides to answer after seeing Cove was still asking for it.

He mentioned how different the two of them were, with how Cove cares a lot of things that «do not matter» and is soft in general unlike Jeremy. He emphasizes how Cove makes himself miserable when he had already found his way to enjoy his life. He then tells him to «stay gentle and happy» and that he hopes for him and everyone else to «have wonderful lives and suffer as little as possible».

Main Character

Jeremy is always annoyed with the main character, regardless of their actions towards him. If they try to sympathize with or say nice things to him, he will dismiss their efforts, often saying that what they say is pointless. There are also multiple occasions when he calls them stupid, an example being his comments on them wearing a party hat in «Birthday«.

Due to his personality change in Step 3, he becomes apologetic to them. However, despite becoming more passive, he still thinks that they should not waste their time talking to someone like him. He blushes and becomes defensive if he receives a compliment from them.

Derek

Jeremy disregards Derek’s cheerful disposition the first time they meet. He brushes off the latter’s attempt at socializing with him and even openly mocks what Derek says to him before he leaves.

It is unknown about what he thinks of him as five years pass by, but it is also possible that he had forgotten all about Derek.

Shiloh

It is revealed that Jeremy and Shiloh are actually acquainted with one another in «Serendipity«, being in the same boarding school. According to Jeremy, their relationship with each other is something that isn’t considered as a friendship. Knowing him for a year and half, Shiloh could not imagine the protagonist and Cove’s description of Jeremy’s personality back in Step 2. However, he reassures Cove, Liz and the player that he is okay and that people continue to look out for him.

When the main character is given the chance to ask more about what Jeremy is like, he allows Shiloh to answer them for him while adding a few comments of his own. Shiloh further proves his familiarity to Jeremy by remarking about how him building up something good only to undercut it is something that makes him who he is.

Story:

Jamie Last (changeable name) has spent the last couple weeks on a summertime high. At eight-years-old, nothing is better than what feels like endless days of school-less adventures, especially when you live walking distance from the beach. While coming home under a scorching sunset one fine evening, Jamie is approached by a stranger. The man is looking for a kid who can do him a favor, and he’s even offering to pay for it. He wants Jamie to please be friends with his only child. The person is Mr. Holden, Jamie’s new neighbor, as well as the father of the odd, and oddly named boy, Cove. Whether Jamie wants to play along or not, Cove isn’t going anywhere. He’s present in Jamie’s life for far longer than they ever would’ve guessed.

And then the long days of vacation finally come to an end. Summer may not be able to last forever, but Jamie can take comfort in knowing it will come back again someday…

Baxter is a character and one of the love interests in Our Life: Beginnings & Always and a character in Our Life: Now & Forever. He first appeared in Step 3.

Appearance

Baxter has black-and-white hair, dark brown eyes, and peachy skin. He has a small birthmark on the right side of his neck. In Step 3, he wears a half-black-half-white shirt patterned with a bunch of small gray eye symbols. He has a black belt with a silver buckle partnered with a pair of ripped gradient denim jeans.

Personality

If there is one word to describe Baxter’s personality, it would be «smooth». The protagonist notes that from the way he presents himself to the way he talks, even if done loudly, he retains his suave aura. He has a tendency to say compliments that sound like pick-up lines. This is the case when he first meets Cove where he seemingly flirts with him and the protagonist. However, he states that it is not his intention to make his words sound romantic and only wants to make friends with them. It is also shown how he is more interested in seeing other people pleased watching the fireworks rather than being happy at the fireworks show itself in «Hang«. He is also considerate of them as he drives carefully while the group is riding in his car even if the main character notes that there are almost no other cars in the parking lot.

He can also be described as confident and forward. He is the first to approach the protagonist if they attend the soiree without Cove and are looking for a dance partner. He also directly offers his number in «Hang«, telling the group to give him a call if they need someone to drive them somewhere.

The developers described him as «preppy and posh» but that he also hates conflict. This is evident when he backs off and tries to explain to Cove that he does not mean more than what he says when he notices Cove’s discomfort with his praises. Even if the protagonist is hostile or dismissive towards him, he remains polite and civil towards them. However, even if he hates conflict, he tries to rebel as much as he is allowed to like how he keeps his hair colors and wardrobe the way that they are. [1]

He is shown to be passionate and skilled in ballroom dancing. He notes that one of the upsides of joining his parents in the summer soiree is that he gets to dance. He is able to adjust to the protagonist’s skill level in «Soiree» and guides them. They note how it is possible that he took dance lessons for a long time based from what they observed while dancing with him. At the start of Step 3, he also offers to teach them and Cove ballroom dancing to which the latter declines.

Background

During Step 3, Baxter is already in college. For the summer, he stays at the condominium previously rented by the Donnells who were dubbed as «the mean grandparents» by the protagonist, Elizabeth and Cove. It was rented for him by his parents so he can have a place to live in while he is not staying at a dormitory near his college.

Baxter’s family is rich with his parents specifically being members of The Cypress. [1] During Step 2, they joined the summer soiree to make connections with the other members. If the protagonist is alone and wants to dance, they can meet him in «Soiree» where he asks them to be his dance partner. He remembers them in Step 3 if they chose to dance with him.

Relationships

Main Character

The protagonist is able to first meet him in «Soiree» where he walks up to them to ask them to be his dance partner while they are looking for one. They can choose to accept his offer, look for another dance partner, or tell him off. If they rejected him or told him off, he will simply apologize and be on his way.

While dancing, if the protagonist has taken dancing classes, he will be pleased. Otherwise, he will take the lead and adjust to them. Afterwards, he will tell them that they have nice legs. Years later, at the start of Step 3, he will move in to the condominium previously rented by the Donnells. There, he will be greeted by the main character and Cove. If the protagonist chose to dance with him, he will remember them. If they complimented him for his skills and they took dance classes, he will return the compliment. If they brought up the comment about their legs from «Soiree«, he easily says that he still thinks that way.

He appreciates the protagonist if they reach out to him and will feel the same if they tell him that they did end up as good friends. Otherwise, he is still polite towards them.

Baxter considers Cove and the protagonist as «attractive and intriguing people». However, his presence unintentionally makes Cove uncomfortable. When Baxter first met Cove, the former would unintentionally say things that sound flirty which Cove does not appreciate. Baxter, however, will notice Cove’s uneasiness with his playful comments and apologizes to him; promising that he will keep his compliments to a minimum. Despite Cove’s blatant attempt to avoid him, he still tries to be polite towards him and will often greet him. If the protagonist and Cove are dating, he supports them and hopes they never break up.

Terry

When Terry approached him in «Hang«, he was more than ready to offer a ride back to Cove’s car to him and his friends. Since Terry is sociable and Baxter is personable, they both seem to get along well. However, there would be some instances when Terry’s loudness would startle Baxter. Other than that, he does happily oblige Terry’s whims like going to the park or seeing the fireworks and making him the group’s source of transportation.

This guide helps to get the achievement completion with the achievements of comfort and interest, the deals and feelings with the statement that opens the dialogue to unlock these achievements. It contemplates the prologue and the three steps existing at the time it was created.

How To Obtain All Achievements

Automatic Achievements

Before the steps, there is the prologue. Just start a new file.

Finish the game. How you end doesn’t matter.

After finishing, start a new file.

Complete the game for the second time.

Comfort And Interest Achievements

Before starting a step, you go to the screen below where you can choose the comfort and interest level by holding and moving the bar. The comforts are Nervous, Relaxed and Direct. The interests are Indiffierence, Fondness, Crush and Love.

Just start every step with each of the comforts and interests. The blocked interest in the screenshot above is Love and I guess it’s paid, but there aren’t achievements for it.

These three are missable. The game is a little complex in this case. The game has too many choices, but from my experience, the community feedback and achievements percentage, there are few main choices that will determine what you will get with Cove, but there are too many choices to analyse. I will write a little about where was my focus in the conversation to get the achievements. Feel free to contribute posting the statements or the screenshots so I can analyse and update the guide.

I got it before I decided to create the guide, so I don’t have the screenshot of the exact statement. But I got in my first playthough, so it’s likely you’ll get too. Stay tuned in the dialogs for the word «like» to say to Cove.

You ask that in the moment Charity from the Step 3, when Cove goes into your room with a firefly.

Say you like him whenever possible. Cove must say that love you first.

To use these files you’ll need to have the free base version of Our Life. It can be download HERE.

WINDOWS/LINUX/MAC:

1. Download the zip file after purchase and extract the zip to get a folder

2. Open the folder of your current Our Life Build and find the «game» folder inside. To view folders on Mac you might have to right click the application launcher and select «view package contents» and you may have to open a couple different folders before you find the «game» folder tucked away inside

3. Move or copy/paste the rpa file into the Our Life «game» folder

ANDROID:

1. Download the zip file after purchase and extract the zip to get a folder

2. From Android internal storage, navigate to Android/data/ourlife.demo.apk/files/ and create a game/ folder there if one does not already exist.
3. Move or copy/paste the rpa file to the game folder. The end path should look like Android/data/ourlife.demo.apk/files/game/[whichever_dlc_it_is].rpa (the name of the rpa file will be different depending on the DLC it is)

* Note: You may need to grant your file manager app additional permissions to access the Android/data folder.

4. Fully close the Our Life: Beginnings & Always application and re-launch it.

If your device doesn’t let you move files still, you can download an external file management app or connect your device to a computer to move/update the files.

After that, the build you already had will now include all the extra content this DLC gives. You can click the «DLC Info» button on the main menu to check if your content has been successfully installed, or for troubleshooting advice.

Our life beginnings and always

I’m having difficulty choosing which personality to give to Cove. What is everyone’s opinion on it? Do you like it better when hes at warm personality, cold personality, or in the middle?

Interestingly, My default for my current run has him cold and sporty. I wonder which of my choices made that happen?

During my first playthrough i decided to go in blind and not change anything on Cove, but looking back now i’m pretty sure i ended with warm and studious.

After that, with the exception of one playthrough where i had him on cold/sporty, all my other playthroughs i made cove warm/sporty as i like that combination the best. (And now that i think about i should prob experiment with middle ground too, got me curious on the dialog changes lol)

My first playthrough my default Cove had high, but not max, warmth and max sporty so that feels like canon Cove to me. (Tbh, I didn’t understand the stone skipping question was breaking the 3rd wall and thought it was just how impressed I was.)

I know you’re not supposed to think of it this way and it’s just how Cove grew up, but I kinda feel bad making him any less than mid sporty. Like he gave up something he loved just to match my complete lack of athleticism. I’m sure he’s really happy on the other extreme still, but I only did it on my complete opposite playthrough that I never finished so idk.

I feel like mid warm matches best with a nervous/introverted character imo. With cold there were a few times where it was just the same scene but without any comments or extras because of both of our actions. He still relates to an introverted MC a lot and it was really sweet when he stood up for them. To be fair most of the moments are minor, so if I hadn’t played the other way around first I don’t think I’d feel like I was missing much, but since I did it feels really obvious. Those little touches helped give my MC a reason to feel bold enough to initiate and want to get closer. I try to RP (and find it really easy thanks to their amazing writing and choice tracking) so even though we all know Cove definitely likes you at everything but disinterest my MC wouldn’t be too sure with a Cold Cove.

I do think it’d be interesting to see how how a cold Cove at Love would react to a nervous MC never confessing someday though.

I would say it really depends on what you want to match with your MC. My first playthrough I did more how I would personally respond to situations and got a Warm and Studious Cove with Middle initiative. I enjoyed it, but like Medicell mentioned I felt bad about him losing interest in the sporty side of things because it felt like he’d given something up. I didn’t mind the personality, but I did make changes and have done quite a few playthroughs since then.

For example, one of my favorite MCs, Dani, operates at the nervous or relaxed level and has anxiety, so with her playthrough I found I enjoyed the dialogue more with a Candid Cove with Mixed interests and Middle initiative.
On the other spectrum, one of my other favorite MCs, Melody, is very Direct and has a habit of putting her foot in her mouth so she tends to have more fun with a Sporty, Cold Cove with High initiative that she can tease.
All the different combinations are fun regardless.
