Science World is a charitable non-profit and science centre based in Vancouver, BC that engages learners across the province in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art & design and math).
Visitors to our iconic geodesic dome explore interactive, hands-on exhibits and galleries that nurture their process of discovery and inspire connection with their natural, physical and built environments. Participants in our outreach programs—students, teachers and families in every region of BC—access the experience of Science World through virtual visits from scientists, livestream science shows, and weekly afterschool STEAM mentorship.

Science World
Family-friendly and guaranteed to fascinate visitors of all ages, Science World at TELUS World of Science is a hands-on educational science museum in the heart of False Creek in Vancouver, BC. Instantly recognizable thanks to its unique globular ‘golf ball’ design, Science World has been inspiring young scientists since opening in 1989, with more than 13 million visitors passing through the exhibits over the years.

What to Do There
Hands-on interactive galleries include the physics-focused Eureka! Gallery, Our World: BMO Sustainability Gallery, and Kidspace for little budding scientists. Learn more about science-based facts at the Peter Brown Family Centre Stage in the Science Theatre, or in one of the four teaching labs/classrooms. Be sure to see the fascinating BodyWorks, an exhibit of human and animal life below the skin, and take in a show at the OMNIMAX Theatre—at an incredible five stories high and 27 meters in diameter, the theater is the largest OMNIMAX screen in the world, and the awesome wrap-around digital sound system has to be heard to be believed.
Recent special exhibitions have included The Science Behind Pixar and A Mirror Maze: Numbers in Nature. The Pixar exhibit explored how technology helped to create the beloved animated films and Mirror Maze looked at math patterns in the natural world. Special exhibits are included in the general admission price.
Facilities
Check out the science-themed gift shop at Kaleidoscope, grab a snack at SnackLab’s concession stand, or enjoy a burger from Triple O’s restaurant. Adults can attend one of the monthly Science World After Dark events where visitors can enjoy a wine or beer as they explore the exhibits in a kid-free evening of science-themed fun. Younger visitors can also enjoy an extended evening of fun with the Twilight Tuesdays throughout the summer, which features a movie at the OMNIMAX after hours.
What Else to Do Nearby
Situated on False Creek, Science World is close to the AquaBus and False Creek Ferries that chug up and down the picturesque creek. Take a ride on the small ferry all the way down to Yaletown, Granville Island, or even Kitsilano Beach and Vanier Park. If you’d rather be in control of steering yourself, then it’s possible to rent a kayak nearby from Olympic Village and explore False Creek under paddle power. Olympic Village is within walking distance and is home to bars and restaurants that make a good post-Science World stop for a lunch or sunset supper. Main Street’s vintage shops and funky restaurants are also only a 15-minute walk or quick bus ride (#3) away.
Getting There
Across the road from Science World is the Main Street Skytrain Station, which connects Downtown Vancouver to the transit system across the Lower Mainland, via the Millennium Line. Multiple buses also stop nearby at Main Street Station or at Olympic Village. Olympic Village Skytrain station, part of the Canada Line network, is only a short stroll away and this connects the city to Richmond, YVR Airport and beyond.
Admission
In the summer, Science World is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (9 p.m. on Tuesdays); during other times of the year, it’s open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends and holidays. It’s closed Christmas Day and September 5.

Здание музея из стекла и металла внешне похоже на большой теннисный шарик, стоящий на постаменте. Оно построено на набережной у самой воды и очень гармонично вписывается в городской пейзаж. Вдоль научной территории проходят городские дороги, железнодорожные пути, а к соседней пристани пришвартованы яхты и катера.
Музей представляет собой занимательную площадку для семейного отдыха и испытаний пытливых умов маленьких посетителей. Также на улице около Музея науки оборудована хорошая детская площадка.
Здание музея часто сравнивают с небольшим городом: внутреннее пространство организовано достаточно занимательно. Вы и не заметите, как проведете внутри несколько увлекательных часов. Тематически весь «Мир науки» разделен на шесть павильонов:
Помимо выставочных экспозиций, на первом этаже здания выделено пространство для ярких шоу. Данные мероприятия проводятся каждый час и путем загадок, опытов и игр приобщают малышей и их родителей к наглядному познанию всех законов нашего мира. Одно из любимых представлений – шоу мыльных пузырей. Вы знали, что, добавив в мыльный раствор немного глицерина, можно не только вырастить пузырь размером с большой арбуз, но и придать ему необычную форму: шестигранную, прямоугольную или нестандартную?
Также можно посетить одну из познавательных лекций. Их проводят с интересными опытами и наглядными пособиями, благодаря которым ваши познания в разных областях науки существенно расширятся. На самом последнем этаже музея размещается кинотеатр. Здесь показывают не только познавательные, но и развлекательные фильмы.
Внутри Музея науки в Ванкувере есть зона отдыха, где дети могут рисовать рисунки и играть в игры, а взрослые – присесть и отдохнуть.
Как попасть в Музей науки?
До музейного комплекса можно комфортно доехать на городском такси или арендованном автомобиле: рядом со зданием имеется оборудованная парковка. Также можно воспользоваться автобусами №№3, 8, 19, 23 – остановка напротив музея. Недалеко от «шара» находится станция метрополитена Main Street-Science World Station: здесь электрички выходят на поверхность.

Call it a cheesy slogan, but some of the over one million customers who visited last year did just that – or at the very least kept their kids entertained for a couple hours.
Here’s a quick guide on visiting Science World, Vancouver’s most educational tourist attraction.
Visiting Science World – Telus World of Science Vancouver
Science World is one of Vancouver’s top things to do and has been thrilling visitors for over 30 years.
The museum’s distinctive geodesic dome was first constructed to serve as the Expo Centre during the Vancouver World’s Fair: aka Expo ’86.
After the fair it was rebranded ‘Science World’, with tons of fully interactive indoor and outdoor science exhibits, displays, and galleries.
It’s also got the largest OMNIMAX theatre in the world.

Top Science World Exhibits
Wonder Gallery
Recommended for: Age 5 and younger
The Wonder Gallery was developed by child development experts to stimulate the cognitive development, motor skills, and social intelligence of toddlers and infants.
It provides a variety of unique play areas spread out over 3,300 square feet.
Every area has different classifications like: experiment, crawl, splash, shine, climb, and build.
Here your child will have the unique benefit of learning through play.

Peter Brown Family Centre Stage
If you wanna sit back and relax and watch some breathtaking displays of science, then the Peter Brown Family Centre stage is the place to be.
Especially if you wanna be part of the show!
The Family Centre stage is the home of live scientific displays in front of a studio audience who watch on in amazement.
Shows touch on any of a variety of topics like fire, electricity, chemistry, illusion, and much more.
Each show lasts around 20-30 minutes.

Tinkering Space
Recommended for: Ages 7-18
Tinkering Space aims to demonstrate the relationship between science, engineering, and safety to youth before their introduction to the workforce.
The 900 square foot gallery contains a variety of interactive displays that allow visitors to tinker around choosing the right tools for an array of tasks.
The exhibit also focuses upon the impact of science and engineering on protective equipment, such as hearing and head protection.
This will leave visitors with an increased appreciation for creativity, innovation, and problem solving.
The Ken Spencer Science Park
Recommended for: All ages
Located outdoors, the Ken Spencer Science Park allows guests to imagine their role in the creation of a healthier world. Here it’s all about environmental awareness.
Discover the implications of everyday choices in regards to food, energy, and transportation upon the environment.
The park comes complete with its own vegetable garden which grows 100 kilograms of produce a year for Vancouver’s homeless population.
It also includes a popular chicken-coop reinforcing the importance of local sourcing of food products.
*The Ken Spencer Science Park closes for the Winter.
Body Works
Recommended for: Teenagers and adults
The world-famous Body Works display aims to instill visitors with a newfound understanding of the impact of their lifestyle choices upon their bodies.
Body Works shows actual reserved bodies in lifelike poses. The bodies have been preserved by a process called plastination that replaces water in the bodies’ tissues with a silicone rubber, hindering decomposition.
A major sensation worldwide, the display has been viewed by over 30 million visitors since its Tokyo debut in 1995.

We recommend allowing at least 3 hours for your visit.
How to Get to Science World?
Science World is conveniently located in the South-East corner of beautiful False Creek, on the edge of downtown Vancouver.
This makes it easily accessible with most Vancouver transit options like Skytrain or the False Creek Ferry.
If the sun is shining I recommend getting there on foot or by bike using the city’s world famous Seawall.
Skytrain
Telus World of Science is located a short walk from Main Street-Science World Station, on Skytrain’s Expo Line.
This is preferred method of transport for visitors with a hotel or hostel in the downtown area.
Here’s how to do it:
False Creek Ferries/Aquabus
There are two private companies that provide a small commuter ferry service throughout a variety of stops in the False Creek area.
The ferries provide a fantastic way to travel amongst the area’s main attractions, including Yaletown, Granville Island, and much more.
Here’s how to do it:
* Fares are cash only unless boarding at Granville Island, where debit cards are accepted.
** If purchasing a return ticket note that tickets from the rival companies are not accepted by their competitors.
Driving
If you intent to drive I simply recommend clicking on Google Maps for customized directions from your Vancouver hotel or Vancouver hostel.
The drive should take between 10 and 20 minutes from most Vancouver locations.
Science World Vancouver Parking
Unbfortunately, there is no free parking at Science World Vancouver – all of the street parking is metered or for residents only.
If you choose to drive though, I recommend the Impark lot #610 that provides parking for up to 200 vehicles.
Be sure to remember your stall number as the lot operates on a pay-by-stall system.
*Note that the machines do not take cash.
The Seawall
If you’re located in downtown or Kitsilano you’re likely located no more then 10-15 minutes walk from the world’s longest uninterrupted waterfront path. Equal parts transportation corridor and outdoor recreational hub, the Seawall is the perfect way to explore the city on a beautiful Summer day.
Like many of the city’s attractions, Science World just happens to be located right along this pathway.

Science World’s OMNIMAX Theatre
Update: (08-20-22): The OMNIMAX Theater still has not re-opened after the pandemic closing. I’ll add more info here as it comes.
I always loved this as a kid: watching the immersive and educational films on the world’s largest OMNIMAX dome screen.
At over 5 stories high and 27 meters in diameter, the screen takes up the entirety of Science World’s iconic golf ball shaped structure.
The sensational wrap-around sound system and the Snacklab concession stand make this a family entertainment superpower!
Each touches on different educational topics like science, wildlife, and the environment.
Science World After Dark
If you’d prefer an adult-only atmosphere then we’ve got you covered.
Science World After Dark allows adults aged 19+ to immerse themselves in a regular visit but with adult beverages, food, music, and more.
This runs just once a month from 7:00 to 10:00 pm.
Visits include a film in the OMNIMAX theatre, the ability to explore 6 permanent galleries, and experience live science shows.

Tips for Visiting Science World Vancouver
Visit outside of peak hours
Since it can get quite busy you should try to visit on a weekday.
Barring that mornings tend to be less crowded so make an effort to visit around the 10:00am opening time.
Allocate 2-3 hours for your visit
If you hope to hit every exhibit in sight we’d recommend budgeting at least 2-3 hours.
If your kids are especially curious or you plan on visiting the OMNIMAX theatre, then count on allocating a half-day.
Take public transit
Science World is easily accessible via the nearby Main Street-Science World Station on the Expo Line of the Skytrain.
This can save you the headache of navigating the busy downtown streets and save on the cost of parking.
Visit via False Creek
If the weather is nice, we’d recommend visiting via the Sea Wall, or a False Creek Ferry.
This quintessential Vancouver boat ride is fun for the whole family, and an experience in its own right.
Visit on a rainy day
This is one of the best things to do in Vancouver when it rains, period. It is fun, educational, and almost entirely indoors!
And there will probably be smaller crowds.

No bus needed. Telus World of Science is located just a brief walk west along Terminal Avenue from the Main Street-Science World Station. It is clearly visible from the station.

Что это такое? Буквально «Музей науки». Это место как для взрослых, так и для детей. Здание было построено в 1986, как один из павильонов выставки Экспо, прошедшей в том же году в Ванкувере. Потом из него сделали «Мир науки».

Основные достопримечательности. Что посмотреть
Скажу сразу, что ценителям исторических памятников и музеев в Ванкувере делать практически нечего. Опять же из-за своего младенческого (по европейским меркам) возраста, Ванкувер мало что может предложить любителям исторического туризма. Здесь нет картинных галерей типа Лувра, знаковых архитектурных памятников типа Акрополя, или таких знаменитых театров, как наш Большой.
Ценность Ванкувера в его молодости, свежести, непохожести, культурном и этническом разнообразии, его открытости миру. Немногочисленные места, связанные с пока недолгой историей города, тщательно охраняются и оберегаются и со временем, возможно, обретут значительность и вес.
Я люблю гулять по маленьким улочкам города подальше от центра. Там можно обнаружить любопытные старые дома, магазинчики, встретить словоохотливых и не очень старожилов. В таких местах легко мысленно перенестись в начало прошлого века, когда переселенцы из Европы обустраивали здесь свой быт, потихоньку тесня аборигенов.
Немногочисленные места города напоминают о том, как там создавались первые капиталистические предприятия — рыболовные артели, рыбообрабатывающие комбинаты, консервные фабрики, компании по лесозаготовке. История города хранит свидетельства безжалостной эксплуатации первых иммигрантов из Китая и Японии, жестокой политики белых колонизаторов по отношению к местным племенам.
Все это узнаешь не сразу, а только при ближайшем рассмотрении. Скорее всего, при первом посещении города, ничто из исторического прошлого Ванкувера не бросится вам в глаза. Наверное, это и не нужно. Пусть этот чудесный город останется в вашей памяти как молодой, красивый и не до конца познанный.
Ванкувер — идеальное место как для путешествий в одиночку, так и для семейного отдыха. Будьте готовы много ходить пешком, берите с собой практичную и комфортную одежду и обувь.
Полезный совет: Об этом знают немногие, но в Ванкувере можно сходить на пешую ознакомительную экскурсию по городу совершенно бесплатно! Волонтеры из местных жителей, отличающиеся живостью, остротой мышления и великолепным чувством юмора, проводят одну из четырех тематических экскурсий практически каждый день. Проверьте время и место на сайте и присоединяйтесь. В конце не забудьте поблагодарить вашего гида небольшой суммой чаевых. Учтите, что для такой экскурсии вам нужно отличное владение разговорным английским.
Топ 5
Queen Elizabeth Park и Van Dusen Botanical Garden. Любителям красивых ухоженных английских парков советую наведаться в Парк Королевы Елизаветы (Queen Elizabeth Park) и в Ботанический сад Ван Дузена (Van Dusen Botanical Garden). Причем второй особенно интересен в дни Рождественских каникул, когда после наступления темноты весь парк превращается в волшебную сказку. Подробнее об этом в разделе «Парки».
Парк Королевы Елизаветы (Queen Elizabeth Park)
В короткой обзорной статье просто невозможно перечислить все достопримечательности Ванкувера, но, как вы наверное заметили, большинство из них так или иначе связано с природой, природоохранной деятельностью и просто грамотным подходом к современной урбанистике. Город прекрасно приспособлен для пеших прогулок и отдыха на открытом воздухе.
Пляжи. Какие лучше
«Как пройти на пляж?» — этот вопрос поставит любого ванкуверца в тупик, ведь в какую сторону ты бы ни пошел, рано или поздно непременно выйдешь на берег. В Ванкувере десятки пляжей! Да, не везде можно купаться — вода в океане слишком холодна для большей части отдыхающих — но везде можно посидеть на песке или, прислонившись к специально для этого предназначенным бревнам, покушать мороженого и насладиться чудесным видом.

Музеи. Какие стоит посетить
Из интересных музеев стоит отметить Museum of Anthropology, музей Science World, Vancouver Police Museum. В городе масса частных галерей современного искусства, где можно увидеть творения местных художников и тех, кто хотел бы таковым считаться.
Парки
Ванкувер — очень зеленый город. Здесь много больших и маленьких парков, скверов, лужаек, где можно совершить утреннюю пробежку, походить по живописным дорожкам, поваляться на травке, организовать пикник или поиграть в подвижные игры. Итак, поехали:
В Ванкувере и пригородах есть еще десятки разных парков: больших и маленьких, со столиками для пикников и без, с игровыми площадками для детей и без, со специальными лужайками для собак и без. Найти парк в этом городе у вас не составит никакого труда. Вход в обычные прогулочные парки свободный, практически везде есть что перекусить и всегда (!) есть бесплатный общественный туалет.
Туристические улицы
Район Гэстаун (Gastown), в частности, улица Water Str. (2 на карте) — один из немногих сохранившихся исторических районов Даунтауна. Гуляя по городу, непременно пройдитесь от узловой станции метро Waterfront station до Maple Tree Square. Обратите внимание на архитектуру зданий по обеим сторонам улицы, почитайте таблички, рассказывающие их историю. Посетите ресторанчики, попейте кофе в местных кафешках. Зайдите в сувенирные лавочки и галереи прикладного искусства местных аборигенов. В любой магазинчик-музей в Gastown вход абсолютно свободный. Там разрешают все трогать и фотографироваться и можно даже уйти, ничего не купив, и никто на вас косо не посмотрит. Гэстаун — это самое правильное место для покупки сувениров. Только не спешите закупиться в первом же магазинчике, пройдитесь дальше — вы увидите больше. Цены везде одинаковые, а вот ассортимент кое-где и кое-в-чем отличается.
Что посмотреть за 1 день
Если на все-про все в Ванкувере у вас всего лишь один день, отведите его на посещение Стэнли-парка. Это парк — знаковое место для города, у него своя любопытная история, вполне достойная отдельной статьи. Как добраться: Стэнли-парк занимает целый полуостров, отделенный от Даунтауна небольшим перешейком. Добраться в парк можно на автобусе №19 или просто дойти пешком вдоль берега, любуясь на красивые яхты и красивых людей.
Итак, прибыв в Ванкувер на один день, для удобства и экономии времени остановитесь в одном из отелей в западной части Даунтауна ближе к Стэнли-парку. Позавтракав в отеле или выпив кофе в одной из многочисленных кофеен, прямиком направляйтесь в прокат велосипедов и берите велик на целый день.
Как вы можете видеть на этой карте, только на одной Denman Str. прокатные станции расположены буквально одна на другой.
Цены в них не будут сильно разбегаться: конкуренция вынуждает приспосабливаться. Различаться они могут выбором велосипедов и качеством сервиса. Вся процедура выбора велосипеда и оформления сделки аренды займет у вас 15-20 минут. Стоимость аренды будет зависеть от выбранного вами велосипеда, а там есть из чего выбрать. Рассчитывайте на средние 12 USD (15 CAD) за час и не ошибетесь. В эту стоимость обязательно входит аренда защитного шлема (даже не пытайтесь отказаться!) и замок. Вы оплачиваете первый час, остаток суммы вносите по возвращении, в зависимости от того, сколько часов наездите. Время, как правило, округляется до четверти часа, так что вам не придется переплачивать лишнее.
Как только у вас появилось собственное транспортное средство, направляйтесь прямехонько на улицу West Georgia St. На карте кривенькой красной стрелкой показано направление движения. Ищите указатель на Стэнли-парк и езжайте туда.

Водопады (20-25 км)
В окрестностях Ванкувера можно насчитать около 20 красивейших водопадов.
Я отмечу только несколько из них:
Подвесные мосты (8 км)
Живописные подвесные мосты в парке «Капиллано» (Capilano Suspension Bridge Park) нависают между деревьями и над естественными расщелинами в горах, создавая великолепный аттракцион. Мосты вполне безопасны и для взрослых, и для детей, но будьте благоразумны, если не чувствуете себя комфортно на высоте.
Летом парк открыт для посещений с 08:00 и до 20:00, в зимние дни он закрывается раньше. Сюда стоит поехать в любое время года, но в зимние месяцы при помощи все той же подсветки и иллюминации парк приобретает дополнительную привлекательность.
Это недешевое удовольствие, но впечатления и воспоминания останутся с вами на всю жизнь.
Capilano Suspension Bridge Park находится на расстоянии каких-то 15-20 минут от Даунтауна (3735 Capilano Rd, North Vancouver). Из четырех точек даунтауна в парк ходит бесплатный автобус-шаттл, можно воспользоваться и обычным городским транспортом. Подробную информацию о том, как добраться, сколько стоит билет и каковы часы работы, можно найти на сайте. На территории парка вы сможете перекусить и купить сувениры в специальном магазинчике.

Science World (Vancouver)
Science World at Telus World of Science, Vancouver is a science centre run by a not-for-profit organization in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is located at the end of False Creek, and features many permanent interactive exhibits and displays, as well as areas with varying topics throughout the years.

Science World Outreach
Science World runs a variety of outreach programs all over the province of British Columbia, including (until 2013) at their classroom in Aberdeen Centre in Richmond, BC, and in more remote locations such as Haida Gwaii and Ladysmith. [2]
Their On the Road programmers travel throughout the province to conduct workshops and present science-themed shows in schools and communities that, otherwise, would not have access to a local science centre. [3] As part of their Super Science Club program, Science World educators conduct after-school programs in designated inner-city schools to inspire at-risk children to become passionate about lifelong science and technology learning. [4] Science World’s Opening the Door program offers high-school students with an interest in science-based careers the opportunity to network with current science professionals. [5]
History
In 1977, Barbara Brink ran mobile hands-on exhibits known as the Extended I around the Lower Mainland. Later, the temporary Arts, Sciences & Technology Centre opened in downtown Vancouver on January 15, 1982 attracting over 600,000 visitors. Another 400,000 benefited from the centre’s outreach programs, which were delivered around the province.
During the 2010 Winter Olympics, Science World played host to Sochi World, a hospitality area representing the country of Russia, hosts of the 2014 Winter Olympics. The attraction closed in mid-January to facilitate the transformation, and was re-opened in March 2010. [8]
Science World underwent renovation after the 2010 Winter Olympics. The indoor renovations completed as of mid-2012 and the adjacent Ken Spencer Science Park opened in late 2012. [9]
Science World was briefly seen in the 2002 American telefilm First Shot. [10]

Science World in Vancouver: Interactive & Accessible
Vancouver, Canada is home to one of the world’s most interactive museums, Science World at Telus World of Science. The non-profit attraction is located inside an iconic geodesic dome that was originally built for the 1986 World’s Fair. Following Expo 86, the building was transformed into an impressive science center that opened its doors in 1988. Today, Science World is home to a 400-seat OMNIMAX theater and a range of themed exhibits focused on the human body, sustainable environments, wildlife, technology, innovation and more.
Science World Exhibits
Visitors to Science World will have access to a wide variety of exhibits, most of which offer some level of interactivity. While the activities won’t be accessible to everyone, there is great diversity in the physical inputs that the exhibits demand. As such, the level of accessibility varies between each exhibit and the particular abilities you (or your children) have.
Here are a few of my favorite exhibits at Science World (interactive and otherwise):
Our World Sustainability Gallery
My first stop at Science World was the BMO Sustainability Gallery on the ground floor. This gallery introduces visitors to the individual practices and technology that are allowing us to create more sustainable communities and societies. As we continue to make use of the Earth’s natural resources, we’ll need to find ways to conserve, preserve and replenish them.
Two of the gallery’s many exhibits stood out to me. The first was a game that teaches the importance of conserving water. Perhaps in a twist of irony, you preserve the water in your glass by plugging holes with a… water cannon! This is a fun activity for children and adults of all ages, and the cannons are at a great height to accommodate wheelchair users.
The second exhibit was a wind turbine. By rotating the angle of the fan blades, you could better harness the wind’s energy, converting it to electricity. As the turbine’s blades spun, an indicator lit up to show how much energy was being generated. There is also no shame in starting the fan just to feel the wind through your hair – I say this because I did it a few times myself. 😉
Eureka! Hands-on Discovery
The Eureka! Gallery offers visitors an opportunity to experiment with water, light, sound and motion in a variety of innovative ways.

Especially delightful to children is the maze wall. Insert a ball into one of the receptacles and watch as air pressure feeds it through the network of tubes and launches it from the top. Other interesting Eureka! exhibits include the water table (with lessons in gravity and motion) and a unique opportunity to see what happens to the strings of a guitar when it is played.
One of my absolute favorite exhibits in the gallery was the lever system, which could be used to lift a heavy hippopotamus figure. The exhibit introduces visitors to lever systems, their components and the governing law of the lever. It’s a cute way to offer an introductory physics lesson to children and students. Mechanical advantage, anyone?
Live Performances at Family Centre Stage
If you are visiting Science World with children, you’ll definitely want to check out a live performance at the Peter Brown Family Centre Stage.

Live science shows are offered each hour, each touching on a different theme. Topics include air, bubbles, electricity, fire, illusions, locomotion and sound, among others. The presenting scientists are personable and engage the audience in discussions, experiments and demonstrations. Children seemed to be especially engaged when I visited and watched a show called “Science Surprises.”
Other Exhibits of Note
You’ll not run out of things to do at Science World, as there are interesting displays placed throughout the center. Here are three more that really grabbed my attention.
Thanks to an infrared camera and display screen, I was able to see a heat map of my body at Science World. The photo I snapped of the result may be the world’s first infrared wheelchair travel selfie!
In the second photo above, you’ll see the skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur (a reproduction). He was clearly in the holiday spirit, carrying a bushel (is that right?) of mistletoe. Sorry, no kisses to report, but that would make for a great couple’s photo.
Who wants to take part in a wheelchair race at Science World Vancouver?
On my way out of the museum, I saw a truly remarkable thing…. a wheelchair racing game. Part of the center’s gallery on the human body, the contraption pictured above allowed able-bodied people to test their endurance by rolling in a stationary wheelchair. Progress through a race course was displayed on a television screen, and participants battled head-to-head.
They should have made this feature easily accessible to actual wheelchair users, but didn’t. A transfer would likely be difficult for most of us (myself included), but if you can muster – it might be fun to race an able-bodied friend! What I do like, and this is a first for me, is seeing an attempt at including the disability experience in an educational museum. Using a wheelchair is an exhausting process that requires a lot of determination, but most people don’t realize that. Perhaps, in a way, this interactive exhibit can pass that message along on our behalf.
Admission
$14.66 USD) for seniors ages 65+. Discounted admission is also available for students and children, but there is no discount offered to people with disabilities. Tickets can be purchased at the museum or online at www.scienceworld.ca.
Location & Transportation
Science World is located within one block of numerous wheelchair accessible public transportation services. City bus routes 3, 8, 19, 22, N8 and N19 stop along there adjacent Main Street. The Vancouver SkyTrain’s Expo Line is also accessible from the Main Street-Science World station.
A bit farther away, but still within walking distance, is the Pacific Central Station. The station offers connections to the Amtrak Cascades and VIA Rail train services. Greyhound motor coaches also depart from Pacific Central.
Final Thoughts
In a museum dedicated to science and technology, Science World really shines in the diversity of its exhibits as well as in their interactivity. Three hours of time are recommended in order take in the complete experience. Start early in the day, so that you won’t be crunched for time. Science World is sure to inspire curiosity and interest in visitors of all ages, but particularly for children.

We are thinking about taking an aquabus from Science World to Granville Island but we’re not sure if there is parking there. I was on google maps and saw that there is a Mcdonalds right across the street. Any advice about parking there? Would it even be allowed or do they monitor their parking lot?
Right now it’s all tied up with the Paralympics/leftover arrangements from the Winter Olympics and it’ll be a while until everything is back to normal.
We will be in Vancouver April 6 to 9. Also, if you pay to park in Stanley Park, say at the aquarium, can you then drive to other lots in the park on the same day and park without paying again? It seems like parking fees can really add up after a few days!
Where are you staying in Vancouver? Many of these places are easily accessible by transit. You might better to park and take transit into the city and/or around the city.
We are staying in the Mt Pleasant area, however there are five of us so it seems like when you add up all the bus fares it is no cheaper than paying for parking!
The Stanley Park question is yes if within the time limit of the ticket. varies by price.
1. There is a large pay parking lot just north of Science world on the same side of the street, just underneath the Skytrain guideway. I recall that it isn’t a particularly expensive lot.
2. I just came back from a day downtown and that area is all cleared up of Olympic and Paralympic obstructions from what I could see.
3. Once you have paid for parking in Stanley Park, it is good for all parking spaces in the park, so it makes sense to pay for a full day and then just move your car around as needed.
. I would be leery of parking at the ImPark lot near Science World..The DowntownEastside is very close to Science World, Chinatown, David Lam Park.. There are alot of shady characters in the area. (addicts looking for easy cash/trade for drugs).. don’t leave any valuables in plain sight if you park your car around this area.. especially late at night.. There are frequent car break-ins in this area, and around GM Place.
An idea to consider would be to leave your (empty) glove box open when parked as well. You will have AB plates and there are people who troll parking lots looking for quarters, sun glasses, anything left on the console or seats. By leaving your glove box open, you are sending a message that you know about breakins and you have nothing of interest to a smash and grab person. They will quickly move on to an easier opportunity.
Super Science Club
Inspiring Students with Science in Action
Super Science Club (SSC) is an after-school program that operates in more than 20 schools and community centres, providing underserved students in grades 1–7 with access to «aha! moments.» We love inspiring students to develop a lifelong interest in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art & design, and math) fields and watching the light bulb go on over their heads when they understand a complex concept.
How It Works
SSC works with the Vancouver School Board to identify schools that would most benefit from the program. Each SSC term involves nine weeks of programming for students to dive deeper into STEAM topics.
The sessions engage students in hands-on-activities that build excitement and curiosity about the world around them. At the end of each term, every participating student receives a free annual Family Membership to Science World to continue their STEAM journey.
Thanks to our generous donors and presenting partners, Science World is able to provide all the necessary equipment, enthusiastic educators, and exciting lesson plans completely free of charge to schools and students.

Science World
Science World hosts engaging hands-on galleries and exhibits, teaching labs and classrooms, as well as Science World’s two theatres.
The OMNIMAX® Theatre, the world’s largest dome theatre for screening large-format, features educational films and hosts renowned speakers such as Jane Goodall and Chris Hadfield. Seating 410 people, the theatre’s screen is 27 metres in diameter and five storeys high. It features twenty-eight speakers and a massive sub-bass driver at the front of the theatre, which contributes to an unparalleled surround sound experience.
The high-definition Science Theatre immerses visitors in experiential learning opportunities with educational films and experimental live stage performances which educate and complement exhibit themes.

Feature Exhibitions
The Feature Gallery at Science World showcases temporary exhibitions created, designed and built by Science World or rented from a variety of sources. Continually bringing new, diverse and current learning opportunities to the people of British Columbia, feature exhibitions and accompanying programs change three to four times a year. Previous feature galleries include The Science Behind Pixar, The Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, Body Worlds: Animal Inside Out, Ultimate Dinosaurs, and LEGO® Travel Adventure.
Community Engagement Programs
Science World’s community engagement programs bring hands-on opportunities to youth across the province who may not have access to Science World in Vancouver. Each year, volunteers visit hundreds of schools in communities across British Columbia, delivering free presentations to over tens of thousands of students—all with the goal of inspiring students to explore careers in STEAM fields.

Между горами и океаном: 4 дня в Ванкувере
До того как побывать в Ванкувере, я знала о нём всего несколько разрозненных фактов. Например, что этот канадский город регулярно занимает верхние строчки рейтингов лучших городов мира для жизни. Что ежегодно там проходит знаменитая конференция TED, а в окрестностях снимали сагу о вампирах «Сумерки». И не только её — режиссёры давно облюбовали эти места из-за волшебных пейзажей: за один день можно увидеть и горы, и океан, и хвойные леса.
Возможно, я бы ещё долго собиралась приехать сюда в качестве туриста, если бы не случай. В начале лета я как журналист получила стипендию конференции Women Deliver — крупнейшей в мире по гендерному равенству и правам женщин. Её проводят раз в три года в разных уголках земного шара — и в 2019-м эту эстафету перенял Ванкувер.
Так в начале июня я оказалась в Стране кленового листа.
Содержание
Чтобы попасть в Канаду для туризма, посещения родственников или друзей, участия в конференциях или обучения на курсах английского (до шести месяцев), потребуется visitor visa.

Пакет документов
Как только ты зарегистрируешься на сайте и ответишь на несколько вопросов насчёт поездки, выпадет нужный список документов. Расскажу, что подавала я. Если из пакета убрать документы, связанные с конференцией (выделены жирным), то получится стандартный туристический набор.
Как только нужные документы загружены, ты попадаешь на страницу оплаты. Стоимость визы — 100 CAD (5000 руб.). Если подаёшь впервые, то попросят сдать и биометрические данные — ещё 85 CAD (4250 руб.).
С момента подачи до поездки нужно закладывать не меньше месяца (а лучше — больше). У всех бывает по-разному. У меня процесс с оформлением визы занял около 20 дней.
Варьируется и срок, на который выдают визу. Если повезёт, получишь мультивизу до окончания действия паспорта (а значит, максимально возможный срок — 10 лет). Мне повезло.
Перелёт
Из Москвы в Ванкувер можно улететь рейсами Lufthansa — через Мюнхен или Франкфурт, Swiss — через Цюрих, Air France — через Париж, «Аэрофлот» + Air Canada — через Лондон. Бывают и более сложные рейсы с двумя пересадками, но их не советую — и без того устанешь от долгого перелёта. Например, от Москвы до Франкфурта полёт займёт около 3 часов 20 минут, а из Франкфурта до Ванкувера — ещё около 10 часов.
Если полетишь с пересадкой, постарайся подобрать стыковку более двух часов.
Чем раньше покупаешь билет, тем, как правило, дешевле он выходит. Так, за пять месяцев до поездки билеты есть и за 50 000 руб. (с одной пересадкой), и за 37 000 руб. (с двумя стыковками). Ещё обращай внимание на время между пересадками — не рекомендую покупать те авиабилеты, где между стыковками рейсов меньше двух часов. В случае задержки рейса ты рискуешь опоздать.
Как добраться до города из аэропорта
Пройдя таможню и получив в аэропорту багаж, зайди в обменный пункт. В Ванкувере практически везде можно спокойно расплачиваться кредитной картой, но на всякие мелочи стоит поменять хотя бы 100 CAD (1 CAD — примерно 50 руб.). Например, чтобы оплатить дорогу из аэропорта до центра города.
Бюджетнее всего воспользоваться общественным транспортом. Выйдя из аэропорта, ты увидишь указатели на поезд SkyTrain. За 30 минут он доставит тебя до The Waterfront Station — в сердце Даунтауна, где расположены главные отели. В пешей доступности — исторический район Гэстаун, комплекс Canada Place и набережная. Поездка в одну сторону стоит 7,50 CAD (375 руб.), поезд отправляется каждые 12—20 минут.
В Ванкувере можно спокойно расплачиваться картой, но лучше поменяй немного налички — на чаевые.
Если ты всё-таки хочешь уехать из аэропорта на такси, это обойдётся тебе минимум в 35 CAD (1750 руб.) до центра. Не забудь оставить чаевые: если ты всем доволен, общепринятая норма в Канаде — 15%. «Убера» или других сервисов райдшеринга в Ванкувере, к сожалению, нет.
Где остановиться
Downtown
Это сердце города с известными улицами Howe, Granville и Robson с обилием ресторанов, баров и магазинов. Многие из топовых отелей расположены именно здесь.

Район на юге города, который находится ближе всего к стадиону и острову Гранвиль с отличными пивоварнями и крупнейшим в городе фермерским рынком. Здесь немало модных ресторанов и баров, а ещё поблизости знаменитая улица для шопинга Robson.

West End
Район с более бюджетными отелями для тех, кто предпочитает каменным джунглям природу. Можно выбрать вариант с потрясающим видом на Стэнли-парк или поселиться поближе к городским пляжам.
Что с погодой
С трёх сторон город окружён океаном, а с четвёртой — Скалистыми горами. Благодаря этому в Ванкувере уникальный климат — это один из самых тёплых городов Канады зимой и один из самых прохладных летом. Во время Олимпийских игр 2010 года Ванкувер получил статус самого тёплого города, где когда-либо проводились зимние Игры: на улицах зацвели вишня и сакура.
Средняя температура января — +3 °С, июля — +20 °С. Зимой почти никогда не бывает снега, а лето сухое и солнечное (при мне температура доходила и до +30 °С). А вот с ноября по март часто идут дожди — лучше захватить с собой зонтик.
День первый. Велопрогулка по парку и закат на пляже
Ванкувер — настоящий melting pot (от англ. — «плавильный котёл») и считается самым этнически разнообразным городом Канады. Иммигранты из разных стран привезли с собой и свою кухню, но на неё у тебя ещё будет время.
За 42 CAD (2100 руб.) сможешь заказать один из завтраков, например блинчики с корицей, тост с яйцом пашот на подушке из авокадо, яйцо бенедикт с крабом, авокадо и хрустящем картофелем или овсяные хлопья с жареным яблоком, смородиной, фисташками и ванильным кремом. В стоимость уже входят свежевыжатый сок, кофе или чай.

Чаша для олимпийского огня была построена к Играм 2010 года.
Стэнли-парк — вечнозелёный оазис почти на 405 гектарах, что на 10% больше Центрального парка в Нью-Йорке. По парку проложены тропы, а по периметру есть живописная дорога длиной 8,8 километра. Здесь запросто увидишь разную живность, например перебегающего дорогу енота.

В Стэнли ты найдёшь знаменитый Ванкуверский аквариум — это не просто туристическая достопримечательность, а ещё и центр морских исследований и реабилитации морских животных. Например, здесь живёт тихоокеанский белобокий дельфин, которого спасли от запутывания в морских сетях. Вход для взрослого стоит 38 CAD (1900 руб.), для ребёнка до трёх лет — бесплатно, с 4 до 12 лет — 21 CAD (1050 руб.). Есть скидки и для студентов, и для гостей 65+.

Передвижение по городу
Центр Ванкувера за несколько дней реально обойти пешком. Для экономии времени можно пользоваться автобусами, метро SkyTrain или даже паромами SeaBus. Если собираешься за город, можно арендовать автомобиль (от 250 CAD / 12 500 руб. за 3 дня).
День второй. Остров, исторический район и Олимпийская деревня
В Гренвилл приезжают, чтобы закупиться продуктами и сувенирами на крупнейшем рынке, погулять по набережной и зависнуть в баре.
Этот же сайт поможет понять, какие работы местных умельцев ты сможешь увезти с собой с острова. Керамика, стекло, изделия из дерева, картины — здесь есть это всё.

Какого района лучше избегать
В Ванкувере есть своя ложка дёгтя — улица East Hastings (эпицентр — пересечение с Main Street ). Здесь между Гэстауном и Чайнатауном зажат район, куда выселили всех бездомных города. Среди них полно наркоманов — многие не стесняются колоться прямо на улице. Полиция дежурит рядом, но не вмешивается. Ванкуверцы стараются лишний раз не заходить в этот район, чего и я не советую. С тобой вряд ли что-то произойдёт, но приятного увидишь мало.
Как только стемнеет, можно заглянуть в Олимпийскую деревню, где жили атлеты во время Олимпиады 2010 года. Прогулка от музея займёт пять минут. С берега тебе откроется сногсшибательный вид на вечерний город — небоскрёбы в огоньках, ярко подсвеченный «Мир науки» и стадион. Кстати, из Олимпийской деревни с 7:00 до 22:30 ходит паром False Creek Ferries — это отличная возможность посмотреть на город с воды. Цена за поездку стартует от 3,5 CAD (175 руб.) — ищи детали на сайте.

Музей «Мир науки» не перепутаешь с любым другим: он построен в форме пиксельного шара в 1986 году, когда город готовился принять международную выставку «Экспо».
День третий. Подвесной мост, горы и шопинг
Администрация Ванкувера разработала план, по которому в ближайшем будущем город должен стать самым зелёным в мире. Для этого, например, разбивают новые садовые участки и огороды, которые жители могут арендовать для собственных нужд, открывают новые фермерские рынки, высаживают деревья или применяют «зелёные» технологии в строительстве.
Даже в самом центре рядом с небоскрёбами столько зелёных зон, что глаз радуется. Но, если хочется стать ещё ближе к природе, отправляйся к Capilano Suspension Bridge — знаменитому подвесному мосту, который на высоте 70 метров тянется над рекой на целых 140 метров. Доставит тебя туда бесплатно шаттл — выбирай экспресс, который идёт из центра города без остановок (время в пути — 20 минут). Сесть на него можно у Canada Place (рядом с информационным киоском). По летнему расписанию первый шаттл отходит в 8:00 — чтобы не толкаться на мосту с другими туристами, выбирай его.

Какие сувениры привезти
Канада производит 90% кленового сиропа в мире — здесь с ним делают всё что угодно. Например, можешь купить бутылочку чистого сиропа для блинчиков, печенье с сиропом или даже лосося в сиропе (закладывай на всё примерно 40 CAD / 2000 руб.).
В аптеке закупайся витаминами (местные производители очень хороши) — где-то от 10 CAD / 500 руб. Загляни в магазин The Ordinary — это демократичная по ценам косметика от канадского производителя, знаменитая своими сыворотками. Одну можно отхватить за 15—20 CAD (750—1000 руб.).
Из местных брендов одежды и аксессуаров обрати внимание на спортивную одежду от Lululemon, лайфстайловую аутдор-марку Roots и рюкзаки Herschel. В простых сувенирных лови одежду и аксессуары с хоккейной символикой и кошельки из кожи с этническими рисунками и без.
Четвёртый день. Искусство, розы и университетский кампус

Дальше предлагаю взглянуть на кампус University of British Columbia (UBC) — престижного учебного заведения с шикарным кампусом. На его территории есть вся необходимая инфраструктура — это как отдельный город. На пересечении Southbound Granville Street и W Georgia Street ты найдёшь автобусную остановку. Дождись автобуса № 14, приготовь за проезд пару долларов — и через 40 минут окажешься на Westbound University Blvd.
По меркам многих крупных мегаполисов высота смотровой площадки не такая впечатляющая — 168,8 метра, но виды неплохие.
Вся территория невероятно красива и ухоженна, а чтобы разбавить приятную прогулку культурными впечатлениями, дойди до Музея антропологии. Взрослый билет стоит 18 CAD (900 руб.), детям до шести лет вход бесплатный. Коллекция посвящена истории развития мировой культуры и искусства — конечно же, с акцентом на культуру коренных народов Канады. Чего здесь только нет: скульптуры, тотемные столбы индейских племён, в несколько раз превышающие человеческий рост, золотые ювелирные украшения… Есть и артефакты из Африки и Азии — керамика, живопись, текстиль и многое другое.

В 300 метрах находится UBC Rose Garden с бесплатным входом. В розарии более 3500 кустов роз — лучше всего приезжать сюда с июня по сентябрь. Из сада открывается роскошный вид на на залив Беррард и горы.
В UBC Botanical Garden можно провести несколько часов, гуляя по аллеям: в саду более 8000 видов растений, деревьев и кустарников. Если окажешься тут весной, увидишь пик цветения рододендронов.
К вечеру возвращайся в Даунтаун. Финальным аккордом может стать ужин в Blue Water Cafe (если любишь морскую кухню) или Elisa Steakhouse (туда иди за стейками). Они находятся в соседних зданиях. Средний чек в этих заведениях — 50—60 CAD (2500—3000 руб.).
Туры на винодельни
Если у тебя есть ещё один свободный день в Ванкувере, обрати внимание на туры на виноградники, например в долину Фрейзер, что в 100 километрах от города. Благодаря подходящему климату там вырастает виноград сортов «шардоне», «бахус» и «пино-нуар». Присоединиться к групповому туру можно, например, тут за 119 CAD (5950 руб.) с человека. За шесть часов проедешься по разным виноградникам и попробуешь вкуснейшее вино.
В Ванкувере нет обилия музеев, выставок и прочей концентрации культурной жизни. Зато нет и московской суеты с вечным перекосом work&life balance в сторону работы. В свободное время люди просто живут: бегают по набережной, ходят на музыкальные фестивали или уезжают с палатками в горы и на рыбалку. Вариантов, как провести время, много — было бы желание! Четыре дня — это так, для первого свидания с городом. Чтобы прочувствовать его глубже, нужно приезжать на более долгий срок. К счастью, у меня уже есть обратный билет.

The lower Fraser River, known to the Tsilqot’in People as ʔElhdaqox, is one of the most important spawning and rearing grounds for salmon in BC. Using centuries-old studies, researchers from the University of British Columbia have documented the extent of the loss of historical salmon habitat in this area and made recommendations on how we can restore it.

Following the end of Expo 86, the building was re-purposed as a science centre. The science centre opened on May 6, 1989, as Science World. Later, the temporary Arts, Sciences & Technology Centre opened in downtown Vancouver on January 15, 1982, attracting over 600,000 visitors. The centre entered its first title sponsorship agreement with Alcan Inc. in 1996, renaming its Omnimax Theatre the Alcan Omnimax Theatre. Alcan later decided to sponsor the organization in different ways and the theatre returned to its original name, the Omnimax Theatre.
During the 2010 Winter Olympics, Science World played host to «Sochi World», a hospitality area representing the country of Russia, hosts of the 2014 Winter Olympics. The attraction closed in mid-January 2010 to facilitate the transformation, and was re-opened that March. [5] Science World underwent renovation after the 2010 Winter Olympics. The indoor renovations were completed by mid-2012 and the adjacent Ken Spencer Science Park opened in late 2012. [6]
On July 29, 2020, the organization’s board of governors announced that BC Liberal MLA from Surrey-White Rock, Tracy Redies, would be resigning her legislature seat and taking over as the CEO of Science World, from September 14, 2020. Science World voted most iconic building in Vancouver

Science World was recently voted the most iconic building in Vancouver in a Twitter poll hosted by CBC Municipal Affairs reporter Justin McElroy.
The beloved science centre beat out 31 other selections from across the city, which included everything from the Bloedel Conservatory to Canada Place, the Hobbit House to the Vancouver Art Gallery, and many more; the Marine Building placed second overall.

Dominion Building fell rather easily.
Vancouver Public Library got 48% of the vote, but couldn’t pull through.
So, what exactly is a geodesic dome?
According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, a geodesic dome is a, «spherical form in which lightweight triangular or polygonal facets consisting of either skeletal struts or flat planes, largely in tension, replace the arch principle and distribute stresses within the structure itself.» The original design for the geodesic dome is credited to American inventor R. Buckminster Fuller in 1954.
Unlike Science World, the Bloedel Conservatory is a triodetic dome, which means that it is a partial dome structure that is similar to a geodesic dome but without being a full sphere.
Here are just a few of the reasons why Science World is the most iconic building in Vancouver, and why it might be the greatest geodesic dome in the world.

Expo 86
Originally constructed as part of the Expo 86 World Fair, Vancouver’s iconic geodesic dome opened its doors in 1986. The fair attracted a whopping 22 million visitors and put Vancouver on the world stage. Musical performers included Miles Davis, Johnny Cash, Depeche Mode, The Beach Boys Annie Lennox, Joan Rivers, Bob Newhart, Howie Mandel and many more.

From Stephen Hawking to Queen Elizabeth to Mikhail Gorbachev, the science centre has welcomed a number of famous guests as well as 18 million visitors and counting.
OmnimaxTheatre
The Omnimax Theatre, which seats 400 people, was the largest of its kind in the world during Expo 86. Its screen is a massive 27 metres in diameter and soars five storeys high. What’s more, the length of the ramp leading to the Theatre is equal to the length of two football fields. It was also Canada’s first Omnimax Theatre.

Besides being enormous, the Omnimax Theatre also has a 15,000 watt xenon lamp that lights the screen. That lamp is so bright that if you placed it on the surface of the moon and focused it at a spot on Earth, you could actually see its light.

Aside from the Omnimax Theatre and the Science Theatre, there are also five permanent galleries: Eureka! Gallery; Search: Sara Stern Gallery; the Kidspace Gallery; Our World: BMO Sustainability Gallery; and Puzzles and Illusions.

«Great American Eclipse»
On August 21, 2017, Science World partnered with the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) to host a viewing party for the «Great American Eclipse» of 2017. Thousands of stargazers attended the epic viewing party.
Location
Located in stunning False Creek, visitors to Science World may also soak in views of the waterfront. The shiny dome is covered with 391 lights as well as 766 triangles which also allow it to reflect the water and further enhance its spherical beauty.

Пляжи Ванкувера

English Bay

Kitsilano (Kits) Beach
Самый посещаемый пляж в районе Kitsilano. В солнечные дни пляж сразу становится полным отдыхающих. Здесь есть места для пикников в северной части пляжа.
Second Beach
Данный пляж находится, можно сказать, в глубине Stanley Park и поэтому более спокойный. Рядом есть плавательный бассейн, игровая площадка и места для пикников. К слову, этот пляж – одно из немногих мест, где проводятся киносеансы под открытым небом во время летних месяцев.
Jericho Beach
Немногим дальше на запад от Kitsilano Beach находится этот умиротворённый пляж. Днём здесь отдыхают все – от мала до велика, а вечером в определённое время года здесь можно посетить местный фестиваль народной музыки.
Wreck Beach
Единственный нудисткий пляж Ванкувера. Для более открытых людей данный пляж будет интересным открытием. Здесь, где одежда – не обязательный атрибут, часто можно встретить свободомыслящих людей и нудистов.
Third Beach
Чуть дальше по набережной центрального парка расположен этот тихий, спокойный пляж, на котором часто можно наблюдать прекрасный закат. Пляж является прекрасным дополнением к маршруту, проходящему по набережной парка.

Начало это глобальное событие берёт в Европе, где впервые оно было проведено в 2001 году. Сегодня такие заезды проводятся от Окленда до Апелдорна. Ванкувер присоединился в 2010 году.
Подводный хоккей (май)
Это Канада и здесь любят хоккей в любом виде. Хоккей на катке, на улице, на баскетбольном поле, на заледенелом пруду. А что насчёт хоккея в бассейне? Конечно! В Ванкувере недавно даже проводились соревнования по этому виду «спорта» и здесь существуют даже клубы, посвящённые этому чудаковатому занятию. Существует даже Канадская ассоциация подводных игр, которая проводит спортивные соревнования по подводному хоккею, подводному регби, подводному ориентированию и подводной стрельбе по мишеням.
По набережной под Pink Floyd (июнь)
Ещё одним тематическим обытием, в котором замешаны велосипеды, является «Pink Floyd the Sea Wall», суть которого сводится к тому, чтобы прокатиться под музыку с альбома «The Wall» вдоль набережной. Кульминацией мероприятия является пляжная вечеринка. Украшение велосипеда огнями приветствуется.
Необычные достопримечательности Ванкувера: Храм Джими Хендрикса (работает с июня по сентябрь)

Как бы ванкуверцы не любили езду на велосипеде, они также любят ходьбу. В частности, ходьбу по улицам, будучи загримированным под живых мертвецов. Ежегодное шествие зомби проводится в нескольких городах и выступает не только в роли развлечения, но и как способ собрать денег для благотворительности.

Понаблюдайте за морскими выдрами, акулами и многими другими обитателями моря в крупнейшем в Канаде Ванкуверском океанариуме, в котором также имеется 4D-кинотеатр. Океанариум регулярно проводит особые мероприятия. Здесь так интересно, что не захочется уходить, а ведь можно и на ночь остаться! После того, как океанариум закрывается, вы и ваши друзья сможете провести ночь рядом с огромным аквариумом. Утром подаётся лёгкий завтрак.
Заплыв «белых медведей» (январь)

В 1920 году Питер Пэнтеджес основал Клуб полярных медведей и с тех пор появилась традиция купаться в первый день нового года. По сей день семья Питера продолжает традицию новогоднего заплыва, занимаясь организацией мероприятия, которое проводится в одном и том же месте – бухта Инглиш. Каждый год в заплыве принимают участие около 2,500 человек, а наблюдателей скапливается в 3 раза больше.

The attraction closed in mid-January 2010 to facilitate the transformation, and was re-opened that March. [5] Science World underwent renovation after the 2010 Winter Olympics. The indoor renovations were completed by mid-2012 and the adjacent Ken Spencer Science Park opened in late 2012. [6]
On July 29, 2020, the organization’s board of governors announced that BC Liberal MLA from Surrey-White Rock, Tracy Redies, would be resigning her legislature seat and taking over as the CEO of Science World, from September 14, 2020. The new CEO would be replacing the interim CEO, Janet Wood. [7] [8]
Outreach
Science World runs a variety of outreach programs all over British Columbia. [9] Some examples include Scientists and Innovators in the Schools, a volunteer-based mentor program to inspire students’ interest in STEM through interactive presentations in classrooms; [10] On the Road, where staff travel extensively throughout the province to conduct workshops and present science-themed shows in schools and communities that otherwise would not have access to a local science centre; [11] and Super Science Club, where Science World educators conduct after-school programs in underserved schools to inspire at-risk children to become passionate about lifelong science and technology learning; [12]

Arcop was an architectural firm based in Montreal, renowned for designing many major projects in Canada including Place Bonaventure, Place Ville-Marie and Maison Alcan. The firm was originally formed as a partnership under the name Affleck, Desbarats, Lebensold, Michaud & Sise between Ray Affleck, Guy Desbarats, Jean Michaud, Fred Lebensold and Hazen Sise, all graduates and/or professors at the McGill School of Architecture. In 1959, after the departure of Michaud and the addition of Dimitri Dimakopoulos, another McGill Architecture graduate, the firm was renamed Affleck, Desbarats, Dimakopoulos, Lebensold, Sise which it maintained for a decade afterward. The Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium is the successor to the Montreal Planetarium, and is located in the Espace pour la Vie, near the Olympic Stadium and the Biodome in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The new installation has two separate theatres as well as exhibits on space and astronomy. It was officially opened in April 2013.
Tracy Redies is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia in the 2017 provincial election. She represents the electoral district of Surrey-White Rock as a member of the British Columbia Liberal Party caucus.

История

Сад Сунь Ятсена (Dr Sun Yat-Sen Garden; открыто: ежедневно май — середина июня и сент. 10.00—18.00; середина июня — авг. 9.30—19.00; окт.—апр. 10.00—16.30) на углу Каррол-стрит и Пендер-стрит дарует редкую возможность насладиться тишиной и покоем. Павильон с глазурованной черепичной крышей, деревянной резьбой и решетчатыми окнами выходит во дворик с изысканным садом камней и миниатюрным ландшафтом. Микрокосм природы, отражающий даосскую концепцию инь и ян, был создан художниками, приехавшими из Сучжоу, великого центра китайской садовой культуры. Свет уравновешивается тенью, а шероховатые глыбы известняка (ян), выбранные из-за своей бугристой и извилистой поверхности, уравновешиваются гладью прудов и тихим журчанием ручьев (инь). Растения символизируют человеческие достоинства: сосна, бамбук и зимняя вишня олицетворяют силу, изящество и обновление жизни.
Отдохнув и освежившись, направляйтесь к гавани и сортировочным станциям Гэстауна (Gastown) между Уотер-стрит и Гастингс-стрит, возрожденному району красных кирпичных домов и булыжных мостовых, — отсюда начинался Ванкувер. Ныне он пестрит бутиками, сувенирными магазинами, барами и ресторанами, не скрывая своей коммерческой сути, но и не теряя исконного очарования. Своим названием Гэстаун обязан Гэсси (Хвастуну) Джеку Дейтону, владельцу лучшего салуна и самопровозглашенному мэру города. Бывший капитан речного судна, он открыл бар поблизости от лесопилок, где выпивка была под запретом. Центром студенческой активности является большая аллея Академического двора — с игрой света и тени среди лестниц и террас под стеклянной крышей на опоре из стальных ферм. Парк Стэнли

Ранним утром 15 декабря 2006 г. на старинный парк обрушилась буря. Тысячи деревьев были вырваны с корнями; сильно пострадал и замечательный променад на набережной длиной 8,8 км. Даже несмотря на пожертвования в 3,6 млн долларов, реставрационные работы все еще далеки от завершения. Вернитесь в центр города по Пойнт-Грей-роуд и остановитесь у Музея старой мельницы Гастигса (Old Hastings Mill Store Museum; 1575 Alma Street; открыто: середина июня — середина сент. вт—вс 13.00—16.00; середина сент. — середина июня сб—в с 13.00—16.00) возле пляжа Джерико. Это здание, перевезенное сюда на барже в 1930-х гг., — единственное, что осталось от старого Гэстау-на после пожара 1886 г. Сначала в нем располагалась почта, затем универмаг, а ныне музей, воссоздающий обстановку конца XIX — начала XX в. Первым богемным кварталом Ванкувера был Китсилано (Kitsilano). В наши дни студенты и художники более склонны «зависать» на Коммершиэл-Драйв (Commercial Drive).
В парке Вэнир, рядом с мостом Беррард, расположены Тихоокеанский космический центр, включающий Космический центр Макмиллана (HR MacMillan Space Centre; открыто: ежедневно июль—авг. 10.00—17.00; сент.—июнь вт—вс), и два небольших, но интересных музея. Один, Музей Ванкувера (Vancouver Museum; открыто: вт—вс 10.00—17.00, чт до 21.00), посвящен местной истории и антропологии. Другой, Морской музей (Martime Museum; открыто: май—авг. ежедневно 10.00—17.00; сент. — середина мая вт—сб 10.00—17.00, вс 12.00—17.00), представляет историю тихоокеанского порта. Его главный экспонат — разведывательная арктическая шхуна «Saint-Roch». Это судно Королевской конной полиции совершило плавание вокруг Северной Америки через Панамский канал и Северный Ледовитый океан в поисках знаменитого Северо-Западного прохода, по пути охотясь за немецкими подлодками.
Район, где Инглиш-Бэй сужается и переходит в Фолс-Крик, отражает вкус Ванкувера к хорошей жизни. Некогда жалкая пустошь с обветшавшими складами, лесопилками, заводами и сортировочными станциями превратилась в модный торговый район с элегантными жилыми домами.
На острове Грэнвилл (Granville Island), под мостом с таким же названием (на самом деле это треугольный полуостров, образованный на месте свалки), вы увидите пестрое смешение рынков, кафе, бутиков, галерей и театров. Дети любят его не только из-за игрушек на Детском рынке (открыто: ежедневно 10.00—18.00), но и потому, что здесь находится большой аквапарк с водными горками.
Фолс-Крик (Ложная бухта) дал свое название кварталу с домами оригинальной архитектуры, окруженными садами и террасами. В восточной части «бухты» проходила выставка ЭКСПО-86, напоминанием о которой служит огромный геодезический купол Экспоцентра. Теперь там находятся кинотеатр IMAX с огромным экраном и прикладной научный центр «Мир науки» (Science World; открыто: ежедневно 10.00—17.00), где можно увидеть все, что угодно, — от лампочки из маринованного огурца до интерьера бобровой хатки.
