The Walking Dead: World Beyond is an American post-apocalyptic horror drama limited series created by Scott Gimple and Matt Negrete that premiered on AMC on October 4, 2020. It is a spin-off series to The Walking Dead, which is based on the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard, and is the third television series within The Walking Dead television universe. The first season consisted of 10 episodes. The second and final season premiered on October 3, 2021, and also consists of 10 episodes with the final episode aired on December 5, 2021. [1] [2]

The series was announced July 2018 and was first given a ten-episode order in April 2019. Matt Negrete, who has previously written for The Walking Dead, is the showrunner for the series.

Premise

The series, set in Nebraska ten years after the zombie apocalypse, features four teenage protagonists and focuses on «the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.» [3] [4] [5]

The series begins in a college town in Nebraska, which is a reference to the Season 2 episode of the original series. The episode, titled «Nebraska», mentions that Nebraska was well-poised to resist the zombie apocalypse because of their low human population density and high level of firearms. [6]

In World Beyond, the Campus Colony comes into being when the Nebraska State University campus is declared a safe zone at the beginning of the zombie outbreak. [7] Civilians flee to the campus, which is protected by U.S. military personnel. As the rest of the world descends into chaos, the enclave at Nebraska State University survives and thrives to enable a generation of children to grow up in relative safety. [8] Thus the main characters of World Beyond have lived a pretty sheltered existence and at the start of the series have rarely left the safety of the campus. [9] It is eventually revealed that Omaha is part of the Alliance of the Three, which is an association of three survivor cities: Portland, Omaha and the Civic Republic. In this confederation, the Campus Colony with about 10,000 residents is viewed as a mere satellite branch of the larger Omaha outpost, which has about 100,000 inhabitants. [10] [11] [12]

Development

In July 2018, during San Diego Comic Con, executive producer Scott Gimple announced that a new spin-off was in the works. [19] In April 2019, AMC gave a ten-episode order for the series. [4] In July, the series was given the working title of Monument. [20] On November 24, 2019, Gimple revealed the show’s title. [21] In January 2020, alongside the series premiere date announcement, AMC confirmed that the series would only consist of two seasons. [5]

Casting

In July 2019, Alexa Mansour, Nicolas Cantu, and Hal Cumpston were cast as main undisclosed roles. [14] The same month, Aliyah Royale and Annet Mahendru joined the cast. [13] The following month, Nico Tortorella. [15] Julia Ormond was announced as a cast member in November 2019, playing the role of Elizabeth Kublek, the «charismatic leader of a large, sophisticated and formidable force». [16]

In August 2019, Joe Holt was cast in a recurring role. [17] In November, Natalie Gold, Al Calderon, Scott Adsit and Ted Sutherland were cast as Lyla Belshaw, Barca, Tony Delmado and Percy. [16]

In May 2021, Robert Palmer Watkins joined the cast in recurring role for the second season. [22] For the second season, Joe Holt, Jelani Alladin, Natalie Gold and Ted Sutherland were promoted to series regulars. [2]

Filming

Filming for the series began late July 2019 in Richmond, Virginia and was expected to last until November 2019. [23] Jordan Vogt-Roberts was originally announced to be the director of the pilot episode. [24] Vogt-Roberts was replaced with Magnus Martens, who previously directed for Fear the Walking Dead. The change in directors was a result of the writers mapping out the rest of the season and production had to go in a different direction; Negrete said Vogt-Roberts contributed ideas to the first episode. [25] The series was looking to film a plane crash in the vein of Lost with filming to take place in Hopewell, Virginia during the first two weeks of August. [20]

Broadcast

The series was originally set to premiere on April 12, 2020, on AMC, after the tenth season finale of The Walking Dead. [26] However, in March 2020, AMC announced that the premiere was delayed and would instead debut «later this year». [27] On July 24, 2020, it was announced that the series would premiere on October 4, 2020. [28] The series premiered on October 1, 2020, on AMC+, AMC’s premium on-demand service and each episode became available three days before their broadcast premiere. [29] The final season premiered on October 3, 2021 on AMC. [2]

Outside the United States, the series is distributed by Amazon Prime Video and first premiered on October 2, 2020. [30] [31]

Reception

Critical Reception

The Walking Dead: World Beyond has received mixed reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the first season has a score of 46% with an average rating of 4.90/10 based on 24 critics. The website’s critical consensus reads: «The series’ strong performances and new perspective within The Walking Dead universe aren’t enough to make it stand out in an increasingly crowded franchise.» [35] On Metacritic, the first season has a score of 48 out of 100 based on 10 critics, indicated «mixed or average reviews.» [36]

Daniel D’Addario of Variety gave it a generally positive review and wrote, «This is not a perfect series. And yet there’s a willingness to reinvent, to genuinely probe a corner of the universe previously untouched, that makes this series feel serious in its intent and, for fans of the forerunning series, well worth checking out». [37] In a more negative review from Candice Frederick of TV Guide, she graded it two out of five stars and wrote, «World Beyond doesn’t offer audiences fresh ideas or even fascinating characters for which to root.» [38]

Season 1 of AMC’s The Walking Dead: World Beyond premiered on October 4, 2020, and concluded on November 29, 2020, consisting of 10 episodes. [2] The series is a companion series to The Walking Dead, which is based on the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard. It was executive produced by Kirkman, David Alpert, Gale Anne Hurd, Brian Bockrath, Scott Gimple and Matt Negrete, with Negrete assuming the role of showrunner.

The season follows a heroic group of teens sheltered from the dangers of the post-apocalyptic world leave the safety of the only home they have ever known and embark on a cross-country journey to find the one man who can possibly save the world.

«Brave»

Ten years after the world ended, the Campus Colony, Omaha, Nebraska, Portland, Oregon and the mysterious Civic Republic are allied together in the Alliance of the Three. Hope and Iris Bennett are a pair of highly-intelligent sisters living in the Campus Colony whose father Leo was taken to the CR months ago and who has been communicating with his daughters in secret. As the ten year anniversary approaches, Leo sends two distress messages to his daughters who are divided on what to do while their friend Felix, who is dating Will, the head of Leo’s security detail, refuses to do anything as it would involve leaving behind Hope and Iris whom he is acting the guardian of. Lieutenant Colonel Elizabeth Kublek of the Civic Republic Military provides the sisters with a coded map to the research facility where Leo is working in New York State.

Concerned for their father’s safety, Hope and Iris decide to go after him with two other teenagers, Elton Ortiz and Silas Plaskett, Elton wanting to find his mother who has been missing for years while Silas wants to get a fresh start from the rumors about his violent past. However, a flashback reveals that on the Night the Sky Fell, Elton’s pregnant mother had killed Hope and Iris’ mother in a moment of panic and was then accidentally killed by Hope, something that she has been hiding from her sister. After discovering that the teenagers are gone, Felix follows them with his friend Huck, convinced that they will only get themselves killed. After the group is gone, the Campus Colony is overrun by a herd and destroyed due to Kublek and the CRM. Sergeant Major Barca reports that they can’t find «her» which Kublek is left pleased by.

«The Blaze of Gory»

Iris proves to be unable to put down a walker that the group encounters, even after it is impaled upon a fallen tree in the struggle. As the group continues on with their journey, Hope begins leaving clues behind for Felix and Huck, losing faith in their plan but being continually outvoted by the others. An encounter with a second walker leaves it chasing the group before Hope, unable to put it down, traps the walker in an abandoned swimming pool. In order to avoid a costly detour, the group, who are dubbed the Endlings by Hope, are forced to go through the Blaze of Gory, a massive perpetual fire that has drawn a massive horde of walkers to it.

The Endlings are able to get through part of the Blaze, but become stranded in a tire junkyard containing most of the fire. After the others go to sleep, Hope takes off alone into the Blaze. At the same time, Felix and Huck follow their trail while Felix is haunted by memories of his parents who had kicked him out after discovering that Felix is gay as a teenager. At night, Felix sneaks off and returns home, only to discover that his parents have died and reanimated, but he is unable to bring himself to put them down. Felix and Huck close in on the Endlings thanks to Hope’s trail of clues and Felix puts down the walker that has been continually stalking them after it escapes from the swimming pool.

«The Tyger and the Lamb»

Hope contacts the others and reveals that she has set off into the Blaze of Gory to sound an old tornado siren in order to lure the herd away from them. The others make their way to an office near the factory containing the siren where they are reunited with Felix and Huck. Silas is haunted by flashbacks to a violent altercation of some kind for which he was arrested and has made people fearful of him, calling Silas a monster, causing him to hesitate to put down walkers, admitting to Iris that he’s afraid of himself. After some trouble, Hope manages to use the siren to lure most of the herd away, but she injures her foot while making her own escape. Rescuing her sister, Iris puts down her first walker and Hope puts down her first while saving Iris in turn.

The Endlings manage to escape the Blaze of Gory and a falling rack of tires keep the herd from following them any further. In the aftermath, the Endlings all refuse to abandon their mission and go home, and Felix and Huck reluctantly agree to join them, although Felix makes it clear that he intends to keep trying to change their minds. Hope finally opens up to Iris and reveals her role in their mother’s death and how she had accidentally killed the woman who had killed their mother. In the Civic Republic, Kublek looks over an attack plan for Omaha and she is visited by Sergeant Major Barca who is struggling to come to terms with the genocide that the CRM has committed. Kublek insists that it was necessary to sustain their modern civilization of more than two hundred thousand people and has Barca taken away when his doubts persist. Despite her own insistence, Kublek is shown to be privately shedding tears over the map of Omaha.

«The Wrong End of a Telescope»

The Endlings take shelter from a storm in an abandoned high school where Felix and Huck take the opportunity to try to change Elton and Hope’s minds so that they can get the group to turn around. While searching for supplies, Hope and Huck encounter a wolf stalking the school’s hallways, but they manage to escape unharmed and find food supplies in the pantry of the school’s fallout shelter. Felix and Elton gather water and investigate what turns out to be the wolf’s activities while Iris finds herself drawn to the picture of a rebellious student Sabina while enjoying imagining high school life and dancing with Silas. However, the wolf and some walkers drive Iris and Silas into the fallout shelter where they discover that several survivors living there have perished and turned, including Sabina.

The others manage to rescue the two, but Silas flies into a rage, beating a walker to death with his bare hands and injuring Elton when he tries to stop him. Felix puts down the other walkers and snaps Silas out of it and it’s revealed that the violent altercation that he keeps remembering is with his father whom Silas supposedly murdered. With Elton’s dedication to the mission wavering, Felix attempts to enlist his help to turn the group around at the Mississippi River, their last best chance to do so while Hope, after recalling fighting with her father before he left, becomes more determined than ever to find him. Iris convinces the horrified Silas not to leave and Elton takes a group photo of the Endlings. In a post-credits scene, Dr. Lyla Belshaw performs experiments on a number of zombified test subjects at the CRM’s research facility, one of whom is revealed to be one of her and Leo Bennett’s own colleagues, Dr. Samuel Abbott.

«Madman Across the Water»

The Endlings arrive at the Mississippi River where all of the bridges were destroyed by the military when things went bad, necessitating a boat crossing. However, there are no boats available, forcing the group to build their own makeshift boat out of supplies that they are able to scavenge from the area. Hope learns of Felix’s plan to enlist Elton’s help to turn the group around and angrily confronts them both about their behavior. Felix later admits to Iris that he needs Leo and his boyfriend Will to be alright because Felix was originally supposed to be the one to go before Leo asked him to stay behind and look after Hope and Iris for him.

With a herd closing in, the claustrophobic Elton is forced to crawl under the boat and fix a problem, but it is ultimately Felix who enables the boat launch just when it seems like they will have to abandon it. The Endlings successfully cross the river into Illinois where Huck departs on a scouting mission for a couple of days. In flashbacks, it’s revealed that a five-year old Elton was the only survivor when the museum that his father worked at fell due to his father hiding Elton in a box in his office. Elton subsequently discovered that his father had turned and been put down by soldiers before Elton made his way to the Campus Colony on his own. While comforting Elton, Hope discovers that she had killed his mother on the Night the Sky Fell. Hearing a noise in the woods next to their camp, the Endlings encounter a teenage boy armed with a stick.

«Shadow Puppets»

The boy, Percy, reveals that two men have stolen his belongings, including a truck that can greatly shorten the Endlings’ trip to New York. Iris becomes enamored with Percy, causing Silas, distrustful of Percy’s truthfulness, to become visibly jealous of their relationship while Hope struggles with the revelation that she had killed Elton’s mother. The Endlings make a deal with Percy to help him retrieve his truck in exchange for Percy giving them a ride to New York. However, Percy turns out to be a grifter who is working with his uncle Tony to steal the Endlings’ belongings. Iris becomes trapped in a dumpster while chasing after Percy and, as a herd closes in on the group as they work to save her, Percy and Tony return and rescue them.

Percy expresses remorse for his actions, having come back to help after Iris had selflessly tried to help him when she had thought that Percy was in trouble. Tony agrees to drive the Endlings to New York as Percy had promised and he privately reveals to Felix that the truck had used to belong to the CRM and that he had found something with the dead driver that can lead the group to a CRM refueling station for supplies for their journey. At the end of the day, the group relaxes by enjoying a shadow puppet show put on by Tony, a former Las Vegas magician, depicting the end of the world. In a post-credits scene, Lyla studies Leo’s manuscript and reassures Kublek that neither Leo nor his security detail will be a problem.

«Truth or Dare»

In flashbacks, Huck is revealed to be a former US Marine named Jennifer Mallick who defied orders to execute unarmed civilians as things got bad. Instead, Huck kills her comrades, including her best friend Drake, in order to save the civilians, resulting in Huck scarring her own face to match Drake’s scar as a reminder. In the present, after a drunken game of truth or dare, Hope reveals to Huck that she had killed Elton’s mother on the Night the Sky Fell and Huck advises Hope to keep it a secret from Elton in order to protect him. Tony reveals that he has managed to get his hands on a map to CRM fuel caches and he has figured out how to decode CRM maps. Using Tony’s decoders, Iris is finally able to decipher the coded map that Kublek had given to her and Hope which reveals that the CRM’s research facility is located in Ithaca, New York.

The Endlings raid the unmanned fuel depot, retrieving CRM code books and enough fuel to make their journey. However, Hope and Huck end up in a hostage situation with Walter, a desperate survivor who has been bitten. Huck promises to help Walter, but after talking him down, Huck kills him instead. Tony and Percy decide to join the Endlings’ mission to rescue Leo and a romance begins blossoming between Iris and Percy, much to the jealousy of Silas. However, Iris finds Tony with his head bashed in later that night with Silas’ bloody wrench lying next to him and no sign of Percy aside from a blood trail leading out of a window. Nearby, passed out covered in blood with a bottle of liquor next to him, is Silas.

«The Sky Is a Graveyard»

A series of flashbacks reveals that Silas’ father was abusive, ultimately leading to a violent altercation in which Silas accidentally killed his father and then had to put him down after his father reanimated and attacked his mother. Although Silas’ father’s death was ruled to be self-defense, his past and blackouts as well as the murder weapon being found at his side leads to a division amongst the group about whether or not Silas is guilty of Tony’s murder and Percy’s disappearance and what to do with him if he is.

Silas displays suicidal thoughts, almost allowing a walker to kill him before Hope saves him. Rather than continuing to endanger his friends, Silas claims to Iris that he had murdered Percy and Tony and exiles himself from the group. Elton decides to follow his best friend and before he leaves, Hope confesses to accidentally killing Elton’s mom on the Night the Sky Fell. In a flashback to her two day scouting mission, Huck is revealed to be Kublek’s daughter and a mole within the group whose mission is to protect «the asset.»

«The Deepest Cut»

In a series of flashbacks, Felix and his boyfriend Will argue about Felix being torn between protecting Leo and staying with Hope and Iris, leading to Will going in Felix’s place. Huck secretly meets with Kublek who orders Huck to speed up the process of bringing «the asset» to them and to isolate her from the rest of the group. In the present, with only a little more than a hundred miles to go, Huck purposefully crashes the truck and then discreetly injures Felix to slow the group down, making efforts to divide them.

At the same time, a distraught Elton finds and protects an unconscious Percy who he hallucinates talking to him, conveying Elton’s own mixed emotions. Percy eventually wakes up and reveals that it was actually Huck who shot him, not Silas. Huck apparently succeeds in driving a wedge between Hope and the others and they set out on their own. However, Hope had actually figured out how to break the CRM message codes and learned that Huck is a double agent. In a post-credits scene, Will is chased through the woods by CRM soldiers who are trying to kill him.

«In This Life»

In a series of flashbacks, Leo and Kari adopt Hope and Iris as babies. Leo later talks about Hope’s genius with Lyla Belshaw whom he is dating; Lyla subsequently informs the CRM, causing them to deem Hope «the asset.» In the present, Leo expresses his distrust of the CRM to Lyla and asks for her help in proving that he’s right. Elton and Percy locate Silas and reveal that Huck was the one who had murdered Tony and shot Percy; with CRM soldiers closing in, Silas turns himself in to give his friends the chance to get away. Elton and Percy agree to find their friends and save them with Percy seeking to get revenge on Huck.

Hope confronts Huck who reveals that the CRM need Hope’s talents to help with Leo’s research and rebuild the world, but they needed her to see what she was trying to save which is why they had set Hope on her cross-country path. After a fight between Huck and Felix, Hope agrees to go with the CRM, but she secretly tells Iris that they are going to beat the CRM together. Hope and Huck meet with Kublek who tells Huck that she intends to deal with the other Endlings despite Huck’s protests. In the woods, Felix and Iris are reunited with Will who is with a large group of people and realizes that they don’t know that the Campus Colony has been destroyed.

First, the storyline is wholly implausible. Almost nothing that happens is believable. An established, armed community of 10,000 could not be eradicated in minutes by a few dozen allied visiting forces, at least not without a nuclear bomb or bioweaponry that would have also killed the enemy. And why? WHY? The writers bury us in exposition for every other minute aspect, but hop from graduation to annihilation without a peep as to motive.

As for the clumsy teens who think tripping a zombie is the best defense, any post-apocalyptic community that survived 10 years would train toddlers and up how to kill them. notwithstanding the fact that the zombies confronted by our runaways are incredibly polite. They only present themselves one or two at a time. When there are more, the teenagers appear to be undetectable by the undead. Perhaps a Cloak of Invisibility is why Hope wasn’t worried about running solo through large packs of walkers at the tire dump.

Most of the characters are unbelievably one-note, made worse by a cast that loves to chew scenery. Huck is no more than a caricature of a Southern tomboy who spits and drawls with a toothpick hanging out of her mouth. (Man, that accent is the WORST.) Felix has angst over being rejected by his family because of his orientation. Hope is a rebel without a clue. That’s it. I don’t care about them, and there’s certainly nothing to pique my interest. By the way (writers), attributing each person with an SJW issue doesn’t make them more engaging or deserving of empathy. It’s just annoying.

Further, the characters that could be more complex are poorly cast. Aliyah Royale, the actress who plays Iris, does not have the charisma or eloquence to be a leader in the community. Her stiff cheeriness would play just fine as best friend in a Disney series. I’ve read reviews describing Nicholas Cantu (who plays Elton) as “earnest,” but this is a nice way of substituting “GBF” for “BFF.” I can’t be bothered to look up the name of the actor who plays silent oaf Silas. He has no nuance or facial expressions. He just stares at his fingers.

I finished Episode 3, and I’m still watching only because I’m hoping for hints of the society that now presumably houses Rick and Ann. But the connection between that society and the one that just slaughtered the Campus is too attenuated. These people would have killed Rick without a second thought: a useless Beta who could become a threat?

If the apparent alternative reality continues in the next episode, I’ll probably stop watching. And that’s from someone who has been a zombie freak for 40 years and watched every episode of TWD and FTWD. … Expand

28 февраля 2019 года было объявлено, что третий телесериал «Ходячие мертвецы» находится в «Активном развитии».

Позже 1 марта 2019 года это было подтверждено AMC. Эд Кэрролл, главный операционный директор AMC, говорит: «Это находится в активной разработке. Постапокалиптический сериал «Ходячие мертвецы: Мир за пределами» основан на серии американских комиксов, созданных писателем Робертом Киркманом. Иллюстрации к графическому роману нарисовали Тони Мур и Чарли Адлард. Первый выпуск комикса о зомби апокалипсисе вышел в 2003 году в издательстве Image Comics. Спин-офф оригинального сериала стал третьим проектом телевизионной франшизы «Ходячие мертвецы».

Изначально автор показал причину бедствия человечества в виде внеземного вируса, поражающего хрупкую оболочку людей. В комиксах зомби апокалипсис запустила внеземная раса, после чего Земля должна была стать необитаемой. Сериал показал иной ход событий, отойдя от канона. В результате получилась не менее захватывающая история с неповторимой атмосферой безысходности.

Мир после зомби-апокалипсиса

Прошло уже много времени с той поры, как мир кардинально изменился. За этот значимый период люди сумели создать общины и научиться противостоять бездушным монстрам. Теперь каждый знает, что нужно делать в случае появления мертвеца. Буквально с юного возраста подрастающее поколение обучается борьбе с существами, в которых превращаются люди. Кто-то пытается строить семью и спокойно относиться к происходящему, забыв о кошмарах. Другие же стараются не падать духом и продолжать борьбу с вирусом, даже понимая, что для этого потребуется принести в жертву массу человеческих судеб.

Сдаваться нельзя

Среди небольших общин, где пытаются жить обычные люди, которые стараются забыть о пандемии и двигаться вперед, находится община Кампуса, расположенная на территории Небраски. Здесь проживает до 2000 человек, которые попытались восстановить утраченную цивилизацию и постараться даже в жестоких условиях двигаться вперед. Чтобы подрастающее поколение имело возможность развиваться и не унывало по пустякам, руководство разрабатывает учебную программу для ребят. Также у каждого жителя есть свои обязанности, благодаря которым общество продолжает существовать в нормальных условиях.

Одним из лидеров молодежного движения является Айрис Беннет, дочь выдающегося ученого Леопольда. Девушка старается подтолкнуть людей не унывать в трудный момент и не сдаваться. В это время ее сестра Хоуп иначе относится к жизни в периметре. The Walking Dead: World Beyond is already stumbling toward a quick conclusion: Review

There are so many obvious things wrong with World Beyond, AMC’s bland Walking Dead spin-off for the youth. The main characters are nice, brilliant, and boring. Sisters Iris (Aliyah Royale) and Hope Bennett (Alexa Mansour) are supposed to be polar opposites: a paragon of virtue versus a renegade against society. But they’re both smart junior chemists who love their dad. They learn quickly from each other’s different perspectives, which suggests great parenting and blah writing.

In World Beyond‘s premiere (Sunday at 10 p.m. ET/PT), 10 years have passed since the corpses started chomping — an in-universe wink to the TV franchise’s own 10th anniversary this Halloween. Iris and Hope are teenagers with scant pre-apocalyptic memories, beyond the stray misery flashback of their late mother. It’s a cool concept the original Dead already flashed forward toward: What’s it like growing up in a world of zombies?

Nothing in the first two hours of World Beyond suggests the awesome possibilities of life in a calamity reality. Everyone wears some variation of fitted blue jeans and brown jackets — the Deadverse uniform — except for Elton (Nicolas Cantu), a quirkmonster in a tan corduroy three-piece. The main characters live behind walls on the old Nebraska State University campus. Security is maintained by guards like Felix (Nico Tortorella) and Huck (Annet Mahendru), very nice people untroubled by a decade of ultraviolence. In our own universe, teenagers obsess over mortality in all sorts of ways: heavy metal, supernatural chic, mega-kill video games, the flawed adolescent conviction that Punisher rules. Heck: crucifixes! In World Beyond, everyone has lost everything, and I don’t think I even spotted one single tattoo.

The campus colony has an alliance with the Civic Republic, a shadow coalition with helicopters and assault rifles. An envoy named Elizabeth (Julia Ormond) flies in for handshake diplomacy. She also brings Iris and Hope good tidings from their father, who disappeared into the Civic Republic’s headquarters. He’s a scientist working on some mysterious something. Hope worries her dad’s lost in the lion’s den.

The Bennett sisters set off to find him, eventually, for reasons I won’t spoil that make no sense. They’re joined by preppie anthropologist Elton and Silas (Hal Cumpston), a big dude with sad eyes. You don’t get much sense of rich character dynamics ahead. Iris asks Silas what kind of music he likes. ″Different kinds,″ he says. I get that Silas is shy, but that vagueness extends throughout the whole ensemble. Felix and Huck are the adults chasing the runaways, and Mahendru at least has fun trying out a drawl as a strong, silent type. Sadly, she also has to describe herself as ″a strong, silent type.»

Here for the cool kills? Been there, done that. There’s a fiery landscape full of scorched deadites, a conceit better realized in a sacred mothership episode, ″The Grove.» Really, was anyone asking for this? Teenagers already have their own Walking Dead show, which is called The Walking Dead. The original series was a secret family phenomenon, moving the goalposts of Sunday night prime-time acceptability by domesticating horror-film grotesquerie for the mainstream audience. I recall a long-ago New York Comic Con Walking Dead panel where a couple people in the Q&A line were comically young children. Was that all-ages appeal disturbing or hilarious? If I were AMC, I’d be worried that those kids are now teenagers binging The Umbrella Academy and Stranger Things, pop-of-color extravaganzas with high-caffeine plotting. Meanwhile, here’s another brownish-gray stroll through a grim forest of woe.

World Beyond is officially a ″two-season limited event.» That’s either a cool new storytelling model or a pre-cancellation. AMC is all in on Dead, greenlighting a sequel series and a spin-off anthology to run alongside Fear the Walking Dead as the original shuffles toward finality. That doesn’t even count the upcoming films about Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes, or ancillary programs about Norman Reedus riding motorcycles and what a chill husband Jeffrey Dean Morgan is. I can’t decide if the network’s quintuple-down mentality is desperate or savvy. That’s a lot of eggs in one basket, years after Dead‘s ratings peak. But the core fandom is loyal. Like, Talking Dead can still pull over a million viewers, a ridiculously big cable number for a couch with humans on it.

And there are moments in World Beyond that reflect some essential Dead appeal. Elton’s a sixth-extinction nerd who thinks humanity was always doomed, zombies or no. His fellow survivors dream of normality: reconnection, repopulation, civilization rebooted. Elton estimates 15 years until the last human dies — so at least nobody on World Beyond ever has to turn 30.

That prediction stuns Hope. ″We’re the last generation?″ she asks.

″Or the endlings,″ Elton says, ″As the last of a species is called.»

Teenagers worry they are humanity’s last generation: That’s a pretty common plot thread in our own world, where lots of people yearn for normality while 2020 spirals further down the drain. Never underrate how the Walking Dead experience reflected (created?) a new sentimental strain of nihilism, crisscrossing high-fatality monstrosity with primal narratives of against-the-odds family struggle and mawkish misfit-community sweetness.

The original series was also, once upon a time, astoundingly good at killing boring characters, while forcing other boring characters to become less boring by killing their own boring loved ones. Will the same thing happen here? I worry the whole content strategy evolution toward Civic Republic-y continuity has strangled the franchise’s best instincts. It’s too much world-building in a universe built on world-demolishing. Still, the World Beyond premiere fixes one major problem in the bloodiest way possible. And one blah character has a secret killtastic origin story so outrageous that I laughed my head off. World Beyond‘s short run could offer its own brutal appeal. It won’t take long to see how much worse things get. Grade: C

I have a hard time assessing this from the lens of a teen. Being. well. somewhat past my teenage years, I can’t presume to speak for the predominant mindset and culture of that demographic. I can only speak for myself. and I will.

Now, I’ve seen show aimed at teens or kids, which I truly enjoyed. Either they were more deeply layered, or had fun/excitement/action, or were just plain funny enough, to be enjoyable. I don’t see those redeeming complexities, here.

None of the kids can act. They are all stereotypes written by adults pretending to know how the kids would act and react.

This is clearly the worst of the three Walking Dead sows and that’s not saying much since at this point, they are all horrible.

I watch in hopes there is an episode where they tune skip ahead 5-10 years so that the show stops being a poorly scripted and acting version of a kid show with zombies.

It’s like this show starts with all the scraps left over from the other two shows. So far, the best episodes are worse than the worst TWD episodes in late seasons

Clearly AMC is trying to grab a new age group. But at a loss if the people who pay the bills like Directv or similar paid networks that air this show.

Show has zero edge that made TWD good to begin with. Scenes that should be powerful and suspenseful are comical.

This was so disappointing for me n I’m onto episode 7 season 1 but I can’t see it improving at all.

I was looking forward to finding more on the CRM n how n where Rick Grimes disappeared to but all I got was a bunch of annoying teens trying to find themselves.

Whoevers «great idea» it was to make a TWD show with idiot teens as the stars, needs a flogging. Same with those that approved and paid for it. This show is a pure slap in the face to all true TWD fans.

Yeah, this review will just get lost in the other 800+ 1* reviews and that’s ok, I’m just writing this to vent because this show is that bad.

Terrible writing, actors, characters. You root for the Zombies every time they appear but to no avail. There’s a female marine that acts like Rocky? What? Another who’s name is sheer irony named «Hope» who is the most pessimistic annoying millennials teen you’ll ever see on TV. It’s just garbage. pure, rotting, stinky garbage. The Zombies smell better than this show.

Apparently there’s a guy named Scott Gimple behind this show, first he ruined TWD, then got moved to FTWD and when they saw the pattern repeating were smart enough to yank him off that one before he did too much damage to it. Funny, how he’s at the helm of this one from the start and it’s a flaming bag of dog doody from the get go. Think it’s time to can this guy and quit giving him shows to ruin.

Seriously, the guy has petitions to fire him online he’s that bad and hated.

This is the CW does Zombie Apocalypse and if you know anything about CW shows then you get this statement. Just skip it.

I usually don’t review new TV shows after watching only two episodes but I don’t see myself watching this show any further. The Walking Dead is now on it’s ninth season and has slowly been declining in quality since season seven. The show has gone on just a bit too long at this point and really needs to wrap things up but I would rather watch a declining Walking Dead TV show than one that started only two weeks ago and is already as low as it can go in terms of story and quality.

The Walking Dead has always been a franchise that’s aimed primarily towards adults weither it’s the TV shows or the Comics The Walking Dead has always been filled with high levels of violence, gore, zombies, harsh language with interesting and likable characters and storylines that have always been serious and thought provoking.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond is what can only be described as the «Teenage» version of The Walking Dead this may sound like a bit of rush to judgement after watching only two episodes but there’s a big difference between a TV show that begins with a slow start and one that can’t even get the basics right.

The first issue I have with this show is that the main characters are all teenagers which would be fine if they had any kind of personality or interesting character development. Instead each character in this «New world» is given one trait that defines their entire personality you get the typical cast of clique characters. The serious and moody main girl, the rebellious girl who breaks the rules, the nerdy guy who dresses funny, the fat kid who gets picked on and a handful of side characters who’s only reason for existing is for the main characters to interact with and spout out exposition dialogue to explain how the world works and advance the plot.

My second issue with this show is that almost every character is written to fit some kind of diversity quota for example. Three of the main characters are gay and not just gay but are in some way persecuted for being gay or «different» There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being gay but that doesn’t mean there needs to be a gay character in every single scene. In the two episodes that have been released there’s been more scenes of characters discussing who their partners are or what sexual orientation they are than scenes that explain plot points, world building, or even scenes with ZOMBIES! In a TV show about zombies!.

My third issue goes back to the main characters being teenagers again this can be done right when the characters are interesting and have actual character development. The story centres around these characters and their journey through a world infested with Zombies as well things like water, food and medicine shortages while also having to traverse a broken world where nowhere is safe and the over abundance of plants and nature has man made structures dangerously unstable leaving cracks and holes where zombies may lurk where one wrong step could lead to you falling down a hole. Sadly that’s not what is focused on in this journey instead the characters just discuss their individual teenage melodramatic problems while showing us flashbacks of uninteresting past events.

My forth issue is the laughable excuse for Zombies and violence in this show there’s one particular scene where a mother and daughter walk through a crashed airplane and come across a zombie tangled up in the planes electrical wires while around him are the bodies of people he has killed and eaten. Now on paper that sounds like it would be a blood filled scene but it just looks incredibly silly like a scene out of a low budget horror movie with bad special effects and makeup also we never get to see how they make it out of the plane alive they just jump cut to the other side like it was a minor inconvenience to a scared mother and child.

The Walking Dead TV show has some of the best looking zombies ever put to screen complete with blood, guts and decapitations in most episodes. There’s also some scenes that were very controversial for the time including a scene that showed characters getting their throats cut execution style without cutting away from the gore. Another famous scene from The Walking Dead was one of Negan smashing in Glenn’s head with a baseball bat until his head was split open again without cutting away from the gore.

To go from an adult TV show filled with such violence and gore aswell as likable characters and thought provoking storylines to a TV show that even a fifteen year old would call boring is such a massive step down from such a memorable and genre defining TV show like The Walking Dead.

I don’t recommend watching this show even the current generation of teenagers would find this show tedious and boring.

The second season of the latest Walking Dead universe expansion came to its dramatic conclusion this week, with fans desperate to know more.

With the introduction of some game-changing new enemies that could effect the apocalypse series at large, the series also finally teased how the zombie-like corpses came to be in the first place, with a rare look outside the virus’s effects outside the continental US.

So… now what? Will there be a season three of World Beyond, or is this really it for the characters, and what does it mean for the Walking Dead universe as a whole?

Here’s what you need to know about the show’s future.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond: Will there be a season 3?

Sadly, our time with this new group of survivors is over, and there will be no third season of the series.

The show meant to focus on the life of those who have grown up amid the virus outbreak, and how they’ve adjusted to zombies as part of their normal life while trying to navigate adulthood.

But unfortunately, the show was never meant to progress beyond two seasons, with showrunner Matt Negrete explaining they wanted to experiment with telling a story within a finite amount of time.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in 2020, he said: «It’s not like, ‘Oh, we’ll see what happens in season 6,’ or whatever. We’re going to go two seasons. It’s going to be 20 episodes total. It’s challenging because there’s a lot we need to fit in those 20 episodes. But, at the same time, it’s great to approach it knowing what you’re working towards.

«So we’re really looking at these two seasons as two very different feeling chapters of hopefully a very satisfying book. We’re closing in right now with the writers on the last few episodes. So we’re getting down to the wire. It’s exciting. I hope people dig it.»

Now, the focus will shift back to the main series, The Walking Dead, and the long-standing spin-off series, Fear The Walking Dead.

There’s also the upcoming anthology series Tales of the Walking Dead, which could potentially see some of the characters coming back in some capacity for shorter stories.

Как все начиналось

Первые разговоры о готовности отснять очередную историю о жизни людей среди мира зомби появились в 2018 году. Исполнительный продюсер Скотт Гимпл признался о намерениях показать сиквел. Автор уверен, что выбранная студией тематика будет пользоваться успехом, а у сценаристов в запасе есть достаточно идей, чем можно удивить. Также Гимпл заверил, что в следующем году выйдет 2 сезона сериала Ходячие мертвецы: Мир за пределами, дата выхода которых будут сообщены позже.

I gave a half star because I evidently can’t give it zero stars. Absolutely horrible! Do not waste your time. It is painful.

This show was not up to the standard that is TWD universe. I watched it only bc I need to know what the Civic Republic is

Horrible. Silly story line that makes no sense. These kids don’t look like they could survive a day at the mall, let alone kill zombies. What’s with the one girl always smiling? Just a horrible show.

Bad. real bad. Very surprised this rubbish got renewed for a second season.

Just another show about emotionally stunted characters, whine about their feelings for the entire series. Director/writer put absolutely no effort into making this series watchable, as long as it was woke. Dark scenes that are hard see what’s going on, but honestly, it’s so bad, you don’t even care. Terrible writing, terrible directing, terrible producing, Acting is bad, but they didn’t give them much to work with. Total crap. (and who knew that those hideous over done eyebrows would still be a thing, during the zombie apocalypse)

I’m sure the person who decided to mix angsty teen drama with a Zombie Apocalypse must have had their reasons. I just can’t imagine what they might have been. Dawsons Zeke is honestly doing nothing for me; watching these angsty teens struggle to dispatch with maximum effort, Zombies that even Eugene would have handled with minimum effort. They weren’t ‘forced’ to adapt to the Apocalypse like original TWD, they were born into it. why aren’t they better? I can only imagine that most of them have been skipping the mandatory school martial arts classes to attend poetry slams. It’s like watching Bane struggle against a slightly mean parking enforcement officer.

The main two characters were extremely irritating and hard to watch, but the side characters such as Felix, Huck, and Silas make the show much more interesting. The first few episodes were hard to watch but the show does get a little better as the plot unfolds. The comedy is really weird and isn’t as good as the main show.

I really wanted to like this show, but the acting is awful, the storylines are so predictable and contrived. It just fails on every level. Don’t waste your time, I’m sorry I did

It was boring at times always trying to keep your interest by adding stupid characters or large groups of «empty’s» that only get used for a minute or so. It fault like Huck, Elton and Elizabeth were the only reasons I was still interested in the show.

A solid spin-off saved by the acting. The young actors do a great job bringing the world to life and Julia Ormond is amazing as always. Notable performances by Hal Cumpston and Nicolas Cantu. They take wonderful risks with their characters that breathe life into their struggles and scaffold the plot. The only concern I have is the predictable story arcs and plotlines, you can almost plug it into Scrivner. Hopefully, this will be ironed out in subsequent seasons.

Boring show and boring season. The only interesting thing this show makes is show us information about the crm. But other than that, it is a boring show with boring characters except for the leader of the crm, the scenes with her are interesting.

Hucks character is unbearable. something about the way she talks or moves her mouth. Just seems weird, fake, idk something about her character just throws me off and is quite irritating.

Season one is an abomination, I hope season two does it justice.

Sadly this series is absolutely dull and boring.. not to mention how badly it has been written. You will forget all the characters names and them existing.. all the time

TWD franchise have failed in their attempt to create a second spin-off. The characters are totally bland, the story is uninspired, and the acting leaves much to be desired. I’m simply not interested in Rick’s whereabouts enough to sit through this. And I will not confuse the bad writing with the inability to relate to these angsty teenagers, because the video game created a fantastic instalment centred around teens.

Seriously flawed with almost comical stories, The characters are so manufactured for the times it is being showed in its a joke and adds nothing what so ever to the genre.

Boring season that you have hard time keep watching it. The only thing that kept me watching was to know more about the CRM group and also because it is in the walking dead universe. Other than that its just a story about boring children who don’t know how to survive.

I love the characters and the style

I can’t believe that show like this are being made while other phenomenal sci-fi are canceled… facepalm; AMC shit it down already

The worst, boring, useless, emotionless, flat, pathetic, badly acted, with the worst script I’ve ever seen in a series, after Fear The Walking Dead.

Rooting for the walkers. Please hurry up and eat them all to end this.

omggggg Despite season 1s slow start, it got better slowly culminating in the unexpected firestorm of season 2. Im literally mourning the loss of these characters, knowing I cant see more of them. I MISS THEM. Finale was amazing.

This is so bad. Everyone associated with the horrible writing and so called acting in this show should be banned for life from ever participating in this industry again. The main characters where atrocious. Their parents must be the producers.

Finally, this series turns into something other than something that should be on the WB channel. The same thing happened in a way to Fear the Walking Dead. It was an unimpressive first season and then eventually being better than The Walking Dead (aka the 2 years of Negan). Although the fractured (socially distanced) season was hard to get through. But I digress. It was surprising to see that sweet secretary in the Russian Embassy that was manipulated by the FBI in The Americans turn into a swaggering undercover military agent, Huck, with of all things a Bronx accent. I’m glad she eventually tuned that down a bit. After all her mother has an English accent. All in all, I think this season shows that the series could have legs. I have two more episodes to watch to find out what a lot of people here are disappointed in. I look forward to another season.

amazing show and even better finale!

Being only a 2-season gig, I thought they would tie into a little more with the other TWD series, but still enjoyed this overall.

Season 2! This spin-off improved slightly, compared to Season 1. The group of teenagers on the dangerous quest to rescue the father of two of them from the suspiciously evil Civic Republic has finally achieved its purpose in a joint effort. The reappearance of Jadis as the relentless villain of the show was an undeniable highlight. However, I’m glad it’s over. Everything was a bit pointless for the franchise, except for the very concerning last scene of the show, which was not related to the main plot at all, but raised many questions about the likely evolution of the walkers. Also, the introduction to the CRM is appreciated but hopefully the Rick Grimes movies will put an end to it.

Really great season. I am surprised on how things turned in season 2. Season 1 was very boring but season 2 ever since Jadis appeared, it has been a great show. There are still some mistakes and scenes with the boring kids, and also scenes with Iris (the worst character on the show) when she keeps making stupid things, and become more annoying all the time. But the every other scene is great and the focus on the crm this season really made the show more entertaining. By the way, I was surprised by the series finale post credit scene. It was amazing and really gets everyone excited for the walking dead universe as a whole.

Прошло много лет. Несколько отважных подростков сбежали из приюта от родителей. Они оказались в мире, полном загадок, секретов и новых возможностей. Теперь они попытаются воскресить былое величие человечества. Они не хотят ждать старости, всю жизнь прячась в укрытии. Наконец-то ребята понимают, что эти страшные зомби не так уж и опасны. Они умеют вести себя при встрече с монстрами.

Это третий сериал, готовят несколько полных метров, есть комикс, существует не менее пяти видеоигр по этой вселенной.

Я люблю зомби, но они заебали.

И тем не менее, Черное Лето например прекрасно показало, каким может быть зомби апок на самом деле, без розовых соплей. Да и Нация Z неожиданно круче смотрится, чем ходячие, хотя по своей сути являются настоящим трэш-хоррором )

Так и зачем все это смотреть/играть?

Так понял эта тетка и ее солдаты-это местный аналог Содружества из последней арки комиксовых ходячих.

Я так понимаю, что в тизере весь экшен показали уже. Ждем очередной Talking Dead?

Уже оригинальный комикс давно кончился, они новый сериал пилят.

Дропнул оригинальный сериал на 6 сезоне. В чем отличие новых сериалов от оригинального? Что мешает просто в новый сезон оригинала добавить этих героев? Смотрел трейлеры, одно и тоже, только герои разные. Они хоть уже рассказали, откуда зараза появилась?

Сидячие Болтуны давно уже выдохлись и только больше раздражают, особенно на фоне вполне себе годного Black Summer.

Percy is a main character and a survivor of the outbreak in AMC’s The Walking Dead: World Beyond. He is the nephew of Tony Delmado, working together with his uncle as a traveling performer and scam artist. He is a member of the Endlings.

«Madman Across the Water»

At night, the Endlings hear a branch breaking outside of their camp and believe it to be a walker. As they go to confront the presumed walker, Percy steps out of the woods holding a stick.

«Shadow Puppets»

Aiming his stick at the Endlings, Percy demands that they stay back as Hope tries to get answers from him. The argument turns into a standoff before Felix come up from behind and holds Percy at gunpoint. Felix forces Percy to disarm himself and sends Elton and Silas to check the perimeter just in case there is anyone else with Percy. Iris pats him down for weapons and Percy insists that he was alone and taking a leak in the bushes when he heard voices. Hope asks if his intention was to rob them while Hope determines that Percy is unarmed. Iris asks where his food is, but Percy tells them that he doesn’t have anything. Silas and Elton confirm that there are no signs of anyone else and the boy introduces himself as Percy.

Iris invites Percy to have something to eat and he tells them a story about two guys that he had met, Mike and Tony, who had robbed Percy a couple of days before. They had gone to a settlement that they’d heard was friendly to newcomers, but they had heard wrong. Hope sarcastically suggests that the people there might’ve just not liked Percy, but Percy ignores her and explains that they had found a place to camp out and when he woke up, Mike, Tony and his stuff were all gone. Percy thinks that they are in Andersonville down the road and he intends to go there and get his stuff back. Felix suggests that Percy just be grateful that they left him with his life and move on, but Percy responds that «this isn’t a vigilante type deal and it ain’t about the principle of it all either. Some things just can’t be replaced» which Elton understands.

Aside from Felix and Silas, the Endlings sit around the campfire and Percy tells them a story about a time in Wyoming during a snow storm when he got caught by a herd on an overpass and, unable to run away climbed on top of a car and closed his eyes, waiting for the end. However, the herd turned out to be of 200 bison rather than walkers which was the most beautiful thing that Percy had ever seen. The Endlings, Iris in particular, are enamored by Percy and his stories and Percy mentions another time when he saw a Ferris Wheel in the spring in Orlando that had been turned into a pelican nest.

Hope becomes suspicious of Percy’s story, wondering how he had gotten from Wyoming to Florida in just a couple of months. Percy quickly tries to claim that he misspoke, but as Felix and Silas rejoin them, Hope accuses Percy of lying about someone stealing his supplies and, as Iris and Felix try to calm her down, she accuses Percy of having his car stolen which instead which is what he really wants back. After a moment of silence, Percy finally explains that a year before, he had found a truck that had skidded onto the ice. The accident must’ve just happened since the engine was still warm and the driver was becoming a walker. Silas asks why Percy had lied and he explains that it’s not just a working truck, it’s one that’s carrying barrels of refined fuel which is worth a lot in the current world.

Iris offers Percy a deal: the Endlings help him to get his truck back and Percy drives them where they need to go. Felix believes that it’s too risky, but Iris points out that with the truck, they will get there in half the time and they can avoid walkers and running out of supplies. Hope suggests that they wait for Huck to return as backup, but Iris points out that Mike and Tony could be gone by then. Iris believes that the six of them together can overpower the two men and although Felix is worried that they might have guns, Percy states that he had never seen any guns with them. Silas worries that they will have to hurt Mike and Tony or get hurt in return, but Elton states that they have the element of surprise on their side which will give them an advantage. Percy questions how he knows that they won’t just steal his truck and leave him in the dust, but Iris promises that they won’t which Silas reinforces. However, Percy is skeptical as that doesn’t mean much out here. Iris pleads with Percy, telling him that they need to get where they’re going fast and it could be the difference between their dad living and dying. Felix points out that if they had wanted to steal Percy’s truck, they would just do it with or without his help, reminding Percy that he’s already told them where to look. Felix proposes that at dawn, they go and find the truck.

The next day, as the Endlings and Percy make their way towards Andersonville, Iris, Percy and Silas walk together with the others close behind and Iris expresses surprise that Percy has read Hamlet. Percy offers to fix Silas’ boot for him and Iris asks if Percy knows any other good tricks, telling him that they’ve only been out of the Campus Colony for a month. Percy asks why that is given the cushy situation with modern amenities and Silas tells him that it wasn’t as good as it sounds. Iris explains that the university is like a bubble and Percy warns her that if they aren’t careful, they are going to get themselves killed out here. Iris states that they had made it through an inferno of walkers and crossed the Mississippi River while reminding Percy that, in comparison, he had gotten robbed and started a fight with a twig. Iris finally reveals that the real reason that they are out there is because of her dad who was sent to work on a project, but he is currently in trouble. After Iris tells him that they are out here to find and save Leo, Percy calls them lucky for still having someone to save which is even rarer than a working car. As Iris and Percy talk, Silas drops back to walk with Felix who recognizes that Silas really doesn’t like Percy which he confirms, stating that he doesn’t know why anyone else does. Felix simply tells Silas that we can’t always control who we like.

The group reaches Andersonville where, hiding beside a building, Felix spots a curtain blowing in a nearby window before Percy’s truck comes down a nearby street and passes in front of them. Percy confirms that it’s his truck and the Endlings follow after it. Observing where the truck has been parked, the group discusses possible options and, while Felix wants to get eyes on both men before they move in, Percy just wants to smash and grab it back, stating that even without the keys, he can still hotwire the truck. Silas objects to doing this at all and Hope states that they need to make a decision either way. Felix decides to have the rest of the group stay in their hiding spot while he covers Percy.

Percy and Felix make their way to the truck and, as Percy opens the door, Felix keeps a lookout. Percy suddenly swears and reveals the body of Tony in the front seat. Percy and Felix pull Tony’s body from the truck and place him nearby with Percy suggesting that the bickering between Tony and Mike had gotten much worse. Percy discovers that a plate has been bolted over the ignition wires and he begins searching for the keys in the truck and on Tony’s body as the rest of the group joins them. Percy is unable to find the keys, but he retrieves a knife from Tony’s body and insists on getting the keys back from Mike, stating that he’s going to get the keys back with or without their help. While Hope and Felix want to go back to the campsite, Iris decides to go and help Percy. After Iris refuses to relent, Felix gives Iris his bag and decides to go in her place. Elton suggests keeping a lookout at the front of the building in case Mike isn’t there and he decides to come back. Hope changes her mind and decides to come with Elton and Felix as backup while they leave Iris and Silas behind to look after their gear.

Finding a clothing store to be the only one not boarded up, Felix orders the other two to stay outside while he enters and joins Percy who tells Felix that he thought that he had heard something moving in the back. Felix orders a flanking maneuver with Percy going left while Felix goes right. If Mike gets the jump on one of them, the other one comes in from the side.

Quickly getting impatient, Iris puts her bag down and decides to go after Percy and Felix. Silas reminds Iris that she had promised Felix that she wouldn’t and he still doesn’t trust Percy, but Iris states that they can’t keep being so afraid. «How are we supposed to save my dad if we are always waiting for other people to save us?» Silas thinks that Iris is talking about his hesitation in putting down walkers, but she states that it’s about herself. Silas agrees not to stop her, but warns Iris that Hope probably will. Silas suggests that there might be a back way in instead of going in through the front like the others. Iris walks around the back of the building while Silas remains by the truck.

Iris locates an open backdoor to the building where she nearly attacks Percy after hearing him make noise. Iris tells Percy that she thought that he could use some help and asks where Felix is. Percy tells her that Felix is checking the other side while he was about to check upstairs. Their conversation is interupted by a walker reaching through a nearby elevator grate and Percy and Iris head upstairs together. In a room on the second floor, the two find a cigarette burning in an ashtray while someone splashes around in the bathtub in the next room. Percy retrieves his truck keys from the clothes on the bed, but as they leave, he finds his stuff in another room nearby. Giving Iris the keys, Percy orders her to find Felix and get the truck started while he retrieves his stuff and takes Mike and Tony’s as well.

As Iris heads back downstairs, she suddenly hears the sound of Percy arguing with someone followed by a gunshot. After a moment’s hesitation, Iris heads back upstairs to check on Percy, only to find the bags that he was going after empty and that «Mike» in the bathroom is actually a walker chained up in the tub. Hearing a noise, Iris discovers Percy escaping outside with a bag and she calls after him. After hesitating for a moment, Percy flees, chased by Iris who falls into a dumpster in the process. Hope chases after the truck, but she fails to catch up to it as Percy jumps in the back and escapes. As Iris struggles with two walkers in the dumpster and a herd approaches, Felix opens the dumpster and puts down one of the walkers before Iris is unexpectedly saved from the one that she’s fighting by Percy. Tony returns in the truck, running over several walkers and yelling at the Endlings to get in. The group quickly jumps in the back of the truck and Tony drives off as the herd closes in, running over the head of a fallen walker in the process.

After reaching safety, the Endlings confront Percy and Tony about their con. Percy admits that they did in fact con them, but he states that they came back to help them when they saw the herd coming. Hope argues for just taking the truck and leaving Percy and Tony to the walkers, but Tony angrily reminds them that they had just saved their lives, explaining that when they saw the herd coming, Percy, who is his nephew, had him turn around. Felix asks if they should just be grateful that the two grifters had changed their minds, but Tony states that «out here, that’s pretty much as good as it gets.»

Later, the Endlings sit around their campfire where Tony displays a magic trick to them, much to the amazement of Elton, Silas and Felix while Iris is despondent over the events. Hope asks if Tony is just a professional scammer and Tony introduces himself in a grandiose fashion as Tony Delmado, the resident illusionist at the Paradise Lounge in Las Vegas for fifteen years. Tony is impressed with Elton’s knowledge of magic and tells everyone that he had dabbled in a lot of things including illusions, card tricks and ventriloquism, the latter of which comes in handy with the state of the world as it is. As far as Tony is concerned, he’s still in show business: for a small fee at friendly settlements Percy and Tony will perform which is why his makeup job to look dead is flawless. Hope asks if Percy is Tony’s protegee and he explains that Tony had raised him after Percy’s mom took off. Tony calls Percy a quick study who was grifting kids in the sandbox and Percy tells everyone that it’s how they get what they need without hurting anyone. Upset, Iris sarcastically tells them that they deserve medals or something and leaves.

As Iris sits next to the boat, Percy approaches her and asks if she intends to stay mad at him forever. Iris orders Percy to stop pretending to care and she accuses him of taking her for everything that she’s worth. Iris is upset that her instincts were wrong, but Percy reassures her that Iris does have good instincts: she came back up the stairs to help him. While Percy has run this con a dozen times before, people always take the keys and run while Iris was the only one to go back for him when she heard the gunshot. Iris seeing him as someone worth saving was what had inspired Percy to go back as he wants to be the person that Iris saw him as. Before he leaves Iris alone, Percy tells her that it’s on him now to prove that he can be more like her.

That night, Iris leans against Hope as Percy and Tony set up a shadow puppet show, but she is still obviously upset when she sees Percy. Watching Percy, Silas comments to Felix that some people make it look easy starting over. Iris admits to Hope that she wishes that she knew which part of Percy is the lie and which is real, but Hope calls Percy the same as them, everyone having parts that they want people to see and other parts that they want to hide, but it’s all real. Percy and Tony put on a show depicting the end of the world which the Endlings enjoy, although they grow somewhat more somber and Hope starts silently crying as the story gets sadder and sadder.

«Truth or Dare»

Iris and Percy unload crates of books from the back of the truck and Iris is impressed by Percy’s taste in books, suggesting that if he needs someone to read them to, she is there for him. Percy walks off followed by Iris while Silas watches Percy closely.

That night, Tony dramatically presents a CRM map to the Endlings which has no landmarks designated or points of interest labeled. While the map, to all appearances, looks to be useless, looks can be deceiving. Percy brings his uncle a wooden box with a few plastic squares and Tony holds one up, explaining that when Percy first discovered them in the truck, they had reminded Tony of the colored lenses that he used in his Prism of Light illusion. As a result, Tony has discovered that you set the squares up at proper distances, shine a beam of light through them and symbols appear on the map, in this case, oil drops, which Tony identifies as hidden CRM fuel caches and all of the gas that they need. Percy adds that the ones that he and Tony have hit so far have mostly just been shacks with landing pads and they were all unmanned and unguarded where helicopters touch down, refuel and take off again. Huck is excited, stating that she can’t believe it, while Iris becomes intrigued.

Later, the Endlings gather around the table where Iris shows them the CRM map that Kublek had given to her and Hope before they left the Campus Colony. While some of the markings on the decoder overlays didn’t form symbols on Tony’s map, when she tries them on this map, they do. Iris points to a symbol on the map that Elton recognizes as a DNA strand. Felix realizes that Iris thinks that it’s the research facility and she asks him what else it could be. Hope is excited that they now know where to find their father and while Silas smiles at first, he gets upset and jealous when he sees Iris and Percy smiling at each other.

Upstairs, Percy offers Elton, Silas, Hope and Iris a drink which everyone but Silas accepts. Hope calls it not as good as her own, but agrees that they should party. Taking seats in a circle, Percy gives Iris some gloves for her cold hands and suggests that they play truth or dare. When Iris chooses truth, Percy asks what she would do right now if she could and Iris responds that she would hit the Louve and see some good art, but Percy fakes falling asleep out of boredom as Iris starts to go into more detail. Laughing, Iris insists that the Louve has the best art in the world, and, although she knows that it probably isn’t even standing anymore and that even if it were, she doubts that she’d ever get to see it, Iris still dreams of going there which Percy calls fair enough. The Endlings, aside from Silas, share a toast to dreaming and never saying never while Silas only just watches Iris and Percy.

As the game continues, Hope chooses truth and Percy interjects to ask her what the worst thing that Hope has ever done is. Defensively, Hope asks what kind of a question it is and points out that it isn’t even Percy’s turn. Percy presses her and, taking a drink, Iris tells him that back at the university, she locked the faculty bathroom and spiked the teachers’ coffeemaker with laxatives. Everyone but Percy laughs with Iris confirming that Hope really did do that. However, Percy isn’t satisfied and he asks Hope for the truth and while she insists that it is the truth, Percy doesn’t buy it, asking if Hope thinks that she can con a conman. Percy continues to press Hope and Silas angrily orders him to stop. Having had enough, Hope tells Percy that the worst thing that she’s ever done is agree to play the game and she storms off, followed by Elton. Percy insists that he was just playing around and Iris tells him that Hope knows.

The next day, the Endlings drive to the CRM Fuel Depot where Hope, Iris, Felix, Huck, Percy and Tony stand outside of the entrance while Silas and Elton wait by the truck. Tony tells the others that there is a stash of refined CRM fuel just ripe for the taking somewhere inside and Huck notes that it’s a big place, deciding that they will split up, start at the bottom and work their way up. Felix asks if these places are clear of walkers which Percy confirms as far as they can tell since the CRM keeps their things locked up pretty tight. However, this isn’t a problem for them as Percy, Tony and Felix are good at lockpicking. Iris tells the others that they should still stay alert nevertheless and they head out with Hope taking a moment to look back at Silas and Elton.

After hearing a gunshot, Iris, Felix, Percy and Tony rush in and ask what happened, but Hope simply tells them that Huck saved her. Huck tells the others that Walter had radios and supplies while Felix reveals that they found the fuel. Flipping through some notebooks, Tony states that they found something else too locked in a cabinet. Percy asks what they are and Tony calls them something to potentially work with.

After the Endlings stop at a recreation center for the night, Iris stops Silas in the hallway, telling him that Tony has something that he wants to say to the group. Tony announces that after talking it over with Felix, he and Percy have decided to extend the terms of their agreement with the others. Percy states that instead of just dropping them off, he and Tony want to stick around and do what they can to help them find Leo. Felix orders everyone to get some sleep as they leave first thing in the morning and Tony heads off to charge up the radios and top off the tank while Hope and Iris hold each other’s hands for a moment. Percy asks Iris to see her by the truck in an hour, telling her that it’s just gonna be him there and that he needs to get his gloves back. Iris tries to give Percy back his gloves immediately, but he claims that his hands aren’t cold now but that they will be in about an hour. Iris agrees and she walks off while Silas watches jealously and eyes Percy’s liquor.

An hour later, Iris approaches the truck and finds it set up with candles, pictures of artwork and the art books that the pictures have been cut out of. Smiling and laughing Iris picks up one of the books and ends up falling asleep with it. Awhile later, she awakens to the sound of shattering glass and somebody running away. Getting up, Iris goes inside looking for Percy and finds Tony with his head bashed in in one of the bathrooms. Calling for help, Iris notices Silas’ Wrench lying bloody next to Tony’s dead body and a trail of blood leading to a broken window that she realizes must’ve come from Percy. Felix runs in and stares at Tony’s body in shock while Hope, Elton and Huck run in and join them. Drawing his gun and having Huck cover him, Felix makes his way to where somebody is visible in a stall. Opening the door, Felix is shocked to find Silas passed out with a bottle of liquor next to him and covered in blood. Silas wakes up and looks silently at Felix.

«The Sky Is a Graveyard»

Felix states that they had looked for Percy for hours, following his blood trail to the river. Felix believes that even if Percy had survived his injuries, he never could’ve survived the current and he would’ve drowned. The Endlings are divide over Silas’ possible guilt in Tony’s murder and Percy’s possible death with Silas having no memory of the attack. Elton later tries to follow Percy’s trail himself in the hopes of finding Percy or evidence to exonerate Silas without any success. After finding Iris’ drawings in Silas’ belongings, Hope suggests that Silas had attacked Tony and Percy out of jealousy over Percy’s growing relationship with Iris.

After burying Tony, Hope tells Iris that she and Huck had left grave markers for both him and Percy. Silas later confesses to Iris that he had actually killed his father and he claims to have killed Tony and Percy as well. As such, Silas chooses to exile himself from the Endlings for the safety of the others.

«The Deepest Cut»

While following a blood trail, Elton comes across a walker who is put down from behind by an injured Percy. Percy recognizes Elton and asks how Elton found him before collapsing. Elton rushes to the unconscious Percy’s aid, but hears the sound of more walkers growling in the distance.

Elton drags the unconscious Percy across a field near a river, struggling on his own with how heavy his friend is on top of the belongings that Elton is also carrying. Elton finally stops and Percy gets up and asks Elton why he’s doing this as Percy is going to die. Elton admits that he needs to try and save Percy because he takes the wind leading Elton to Percy as a sign that he’s supposed to save him. Percy says that he can’t fight that and that it took Elton’s dad and his mom who had freaked out and started shooting people. Elton angrily orders Percy to shut up, insisting that he is nothing like his mother and Percy asks if Elton is like Hope. Elton shakily defends Hope, stating that Hope was little while Amelia has no excuse for what she did. Percy suggests that if Elton really is hell-bent on saving him, Elton needs to find where Percy is leaking and patch him up before Percy bleeds out.

Elton realizes that he’s hallucinating Percy talking to him out of stress and tries to shut him up, but Percy suggests that Elton’s scared to find out what Silas did to Percy with his wrench. After a moment, Elton declares that he’s not scared and checks out Percy’s shoulder wound. «Surprise, Rocket Man. I got shot,» states Percy.

Elton treats Percy’s wound, begging Percy to wake up and tell him who shot him. Sitting up, Elton’s hallucination of Percy asks if it even matters who did this and what he’s putting on the wound. Elton explains that it’s a poultice to draw out the infection, assuming that Percy didn’t get something serious like staph or MRSA. As Elton wraps up his shoulder, Percy insists that Elton is wasting his time and that Percy is dying. Elton refuses to give up, but Percy draws his attention to a small herd of four walkers making their way across the field towards Elton and Percy.

Elton desperately tries to drag Percy away without much luck while his hallucination of Percy insists that it’s useless as Percy is just going to die anyways. Percy reassures Elton that it’s okay for Elton to walk away and save himself, but Elton refuses, insisting that he’s not his mother. Percy tells Elton to look around and that it’s over for him, but not for Elton. With a little bit of time before the herd reaches them, Elton sits next to Percy who calls it a crazy world «full of good people who sometimes disappoint us, but stand beautiful.» Elton is no longer just the guy behind the camera, he’s a part of the world now. Elton tells Percy that that wasn’t what this was supposed to be and Percy comments that it never is.

Percy calls Elton not wanting him to die a noble thing, but states that trying to save a guy who’s probably already dead is not worth it. Percy encourages Elton to live and save other people down the line who can live to change the world. Elton believes that they only have 15 years before they go extinct, but Percy challenges his belief in this. Elton insists that his mom believed it to be true, but Percy suggests that Amelia had more faith in people than he thinks because if Elton is right, why would she have had children in that case. Percy thinks that despite what she wrote in her manuscript, deep down Amelia believed that people still stood a fighting chance. Percy encourages Elton to experience the world and to fight for it and be brave like Amelia knew that he could be. As Elton starts crying, his hallucination of Percy vanishes. Rather than abandoning Percy to die, however, Elton takes down the herd and protects his friend.

The next morning, Elton continues to sit in the field with an unconscious Percy as a storm starts up. Adjusting Percy’s jacket to make it warmer for him, Elton finds a radio in the pocket and attempts to raise his friends. Elton manages to raise Huck and tells her that he’s with Percy who’s hurt. Huck asks Elton to tell her where they are, but as he starts, Percy wakes up and stops Elton, revealing to Elton’s shock that Huck was the one who shot him.

«In This Life»

Sitting inside the factory, Percy explains to Silas and Elton that Huck shot Tony and Percy just ran, thinking that he was next and that he couldn’t yell for help because of the rest of the Endlings were all in on it. Huck is the one who has blood on her hands after what she did to Tony and Percy. Silas is confused as to why Huck had murdered Tony and framed him, but neither Elton nor Percy know. Elton tells Silas that all they know is that it wasn’t Silas who starts silently crying with relief at the knowledge that he isn’t a monster and he never was. After a moment, Silas becomes concerned, realizing that Hope and Iris are still with Huck and he tells Elton and Percy that they have to save them.

Studying a map, Elton tells Silas and Percy that the others have to be a ways ahead of them by now and Percy states that they are a hundred miles ahead and gaining which is more than a ways. Silas promises that they will figure it out and Elton begins packing away the map. Noticing Percy in pain from his shoulder wound, Silas offers his condolences about Tony’s death and tells Percy that he’s glad that Percy is okay and apologizes for his earlier behavior. Percy just wants to focus on catching up to the others and finding Huck, promising that Huck will pay for what she did and it’s going to be him that does it.

Hearing a truck engine, Silas, Elton and Percy go to the window and spot a CRM truck pulling up and CRM soldiers get out. Percy suggests that since they are close to the fuel depot that the Endlings had raided, the CRM must’ve been there and seen the smoke from the fire just like Elton had. With the soldiers heading for the factory, the three quickly flee.

Sneaking outside at night, the three find the factory surrounded on both sides by CRM soldiers. Elton reminds the others that they have the CRM’s truck, their maps, stole their gas and Elton radioed Huck on an open channel. As a result, the CRM might’ve overhead the radio conversation and put two and two together that the people at the factory are the ones responsible for everything. Silas tells the others that he might know a way out and to follow him. Silas leads Elton and Percy to a gate with Percy’s wound reopening and bleeding badly along the way. Percy orders the other two to leave him behind because his wound is slowing them down and the blood will just lead the CRM right to them. Elton refuses to give up on his friend and gets them through the gate.

Looking back, Silas has a flashback to Iris telling Silas that he’d saved them twice now, Felix promising him a fresh start, Elton reassuring Silas that he isn’t a monster, putting down a walker at the high school, holding up the rack of tires at the Blaze of Gory and playing in the treehouse ending with Iris telling him that Silas saving them is what matters. After Elton and Percy get through the gate, Silas tosses his belongings through after them and closes it. Elton asks what Silas is doing and, cutting his hand, he explains that he’s saving them so that they can save the others. Silas tells them not to worry about him, promising that he will be okay no matter what happens. Both Elton and Percy protest that Silas doesn’t have to do this, but Silas explains that the CRM doesn’t know that Elton and Percy are here and getting Silas will slow them down. Silas orders Percy to protect Iris and keep her safe, but to not be the monster no matter what Huck did to him. Silas thanks Elton for believing in him when he didn’t and calls Elton his best friend. With the CRM trucks approaching, Silas orders the two to go before they are seen and walks away. Percy tells Elton that there’s nothing that he can do and they have to go. Reluctantly, Elton picks up Silas’ belongings and follows Percy away.

The next day, Elton and Percy walk through a field and Percy wonders where the CRM took Silas and how they’re going to find the others, and what they’re going to do, but Elton doesn’t know the answer to any of his questions. Elton knows that they’re going to figure it out and that while what lies ahead won’t be easy, they’re a part of it now. While Elton used to think that they were the last of the species, so much has changed and he’s seen the impossible happen which is how Elton knows that they’re going to find the others and save them. Elton is confident that they can do the impossible and that they are going to make their lives count, not because they’re the last generation, but because they’re the beginning.
