How Story-Train.com makes Rick and Morty‘s best joke even better
Roy: A Life Well-Lived remains one of the all-time best Rick and Morty and the mid-Season 4 premiere almost took that bit to its breaking point.
The sixth episode of Rick and Morty Season 4, «Never Ricking Morty,» achieves new levels of meta-humor brilliance as the duo hops aboard the Storytrain, and the bizarre www.Story-Train.com joke about commercialism in the time of coronavirus at the episode’s very end makes the series’ best joke even better.
Remember Roy: A Life Well-Lived? Episode 6 is basically like watching that through a kaleidoscope as a seemingly endless array of lives play out before your eyes with minimal continuity.
Adult Swim aired «Never Ricking Morty» Sunday night, and the clip-based episode feels like a mashup between «Morty’s Mind Blowers» and Roy: A Live Well Lived in that we get an anthology of seemingly disconnected scenes united by a single premise: Rick and Morty are trapped aboard a train of anthological cars that constantly breaks through the Fourth Wall, occasionally trapping our characters in lifelong simulations that ends with their return to the actual story.
The most jarring instance of this transforms Morty into a distressed war veteran who spends years tracking Rick down only to kill him so they can return to the Story Train. (It’s all very Inception.) In the end, we learn that even the train itself is a fake simulation within a toy called the Story Train that Morty bought from the Citadel for Rick, and it creates the entire adventure for whatever Rick that uses it.
Rick begs the viewer to «look it up on the internet» and buy it. There’s a real-seeming website and everything. But is it actually real?
What is the Story Train in Rick and Morty?
«The Citadel of Ricks Story Train comes with car after car of enemies, lovers, and Goomby all grappling with the nature of who you truly are,» Rick says during a commercial for the train. The «Rick-patented anthology generator» creates new stories and people aboard the train, but these living people «have no souls» as «puppets of fate.»
And from the way Rick and Morty interact with theirs towards the end of the episode, it seems like their psyches were actually present aboard the train, making this entire episode a fabricated extension of the Roy: A Life Well-Lived lifelong immersive arcade game featured on the show previously. When Rick and Morty board the train, they feel like they’re really part of it, but when they return to their home reality, the experience fades like a dream.
How does the Story Train connect to Roy: A Life Well-Lived?
When Rick kills the conductor aboard the train, he wakes up in the Blips and Chitz arcade, seemingly having just finished a game of Roy: A Life Well-Lived. His body within the universe of the Story Train is ripped in half as she endlessly spins caught between life and death, and the same happens in the «non-diagetic» reality of the arcade.
«Never Ricking Morty» is a perfect example of nested non-diagetic stories (events that exist outside the world of the story), especially when not a single one of these stories can be considered canon for the show — not even the central one that involves Rick and Morty playing with a train.
Can you buy an actual Rick and Morty Story Train?
Despite Rick’s belligerent promises that the Story Train is a real thing that you can buy, he’s lying outright.
So far, no you cannot buy a Rick and Morty Story Train, but given the fact that you can buy everything from Pickle Rick-flavored Pringles to Strawberry Smiggles, it seems inevitable that some kind of toy set will be released by Adult Swim at some point in the future to celebrate this ridiculous joke. The last time a joke like this appeared on the series, it resurrected McDonald’s Szechuan Sauce.
‘Rick and Morty’s Story-Train.com Doesn’t Exist for a Good Reason

Where to Stream:
Rick and Morty
Rick and Morty has always been the type of show that’s rewarded sharp viewers. Questions like “Where is Tammy?” and “What is Evil Morty’s plan?” have haunted fans, lurking in the background as the show continues to cheerfully move forward. But www.Story-Train.com isn’t one of those mysteries. The gag website at the end of Rick and Morty Season 4, Episode 6 encouraging people to jump into the jaws of consumerism is just an elaborate bit. And it’s playing us all.
From its first minutes it was clear that “Never Ricking Morty” was this season’s answer to “Interdimensional Cable.” Thanks to a train full of people who either adore or despise Rick, the episode is composed of a series of bizarre vignettes about Rick and Morty adventures we’ve never seen. That’s pretty par for the course in this wild show. But as the episode goes on it becomes clear that what’s really happening is a lot more confusing and ridiculous.
It turns out this train is actually being controlled by the Story Master, a Snowpiercer-esque overlord who only cares about constructing the best story imaginable. Huge moments happen, like Tammy fighting Summer with a light saber, that Rick explains away as being either non-canon or possibly canon. After Rick and Morty defeat Story Master using the story of Jesus, the truth is revealed. They were never our main Rick and Morty or even an arguably real Rick and Morty. Instead they were actually story devices trapped on a toy called the Story Train.
True to Dan Harmon’s love of fake commercials, the ending bumper for “Never Ricking Morty” is an advertisement for the Story Train toy. But despite the commercial’s insistence that viewers feed the beast that is capitalism, http://www.Story-Train.com doesn’t exist. It’s a dead link, and it’s been confusing fans ever since the episode’s premiere.
ok ok who else googled the story train website #RickandMorty
— ᑕᕼᖇIᔕ «I HAVE SPOKEN» ᔕOYᗩᑎGᑕO (@csoy13) May 4, 2020
I actually tried to find the train by typing the website in the browser address bar.
As much fun as it would be to own your own Story Train it will likely never happen. Why? Because thoughtlessly buying merchandise was never the point of the episode. Mocking the very success of Rick and Morty itself was.
Just the idea of the Story Train and its circular track is a meta jab at the show. Harmon has long been outspoken about the Circle Theory of Story, the writing method he has long used to crack every show, episode, movie, or anything else he’s written. That self-mockery continues even further, showing fans a plethora of action-packed, exciting scenes that were heavily featured in the trailer for these new episodes. Ever since people started analyzing Rick and Morty‘s opening credits, Harmon and Justin Roiland have told fans not to take anything in their show too seriously. What would drive that point home better than literally trapping Rick and Morty inside of an anthology episode?

Rick’s drunken rant about the necessity of blind capitalism fits into that mockery as well. This show was created by the man who once wrote a character on Community who legally changed his name to Subway. Skewering capitalism while also conforming to it has long been part of Harmon’s ethos. And with the truly bonkers amount of shirts, toys, games, underwear, and Rick-on-wheels trucks Adult Swim has pumped out for this show, it was about time for these co-creators to mock their own intense merchandising.
So what did the writers of this weird and painfully smart show do? They wrote an episode pointing out all of their tropes and narrative shortcuts. They then turned that episode into a long, complicated commercial for a toy as a nod to their own show’s rampant consumerism. Warner, which owns Adult Swim, then registered the domain for http://www.Story-Train.com. And we all clicked.
Rick and Morty has owned us all. But at the end of all of this, it’s hard to get too mad. Without any analysis, protesting, or second guessing, owning a Story Train would have been pretty cool.

‘Rick and Morty’ Season 4, Episode 6: Is the Story-Train.com Website Real?
Rick and Morty has often seen products mentioned in the show which fans have then rushed out to buy. For example, fans across the world caused havoc while trying to buy McDonald’s Szechuan sauce in 2017, and viewers were able to scan a QR code on a funnel hat worn by Rick in Season 4 that directed them to the show’s shop. So when Season 4, Episode 6 of the Adult Swim cartoon ended with a link to www.story-train.com, Rick and Morty fans rushed en masse to the website to purchase a toy train of their own.
Those fans, however, were disappointed, as the website does not appear to be real. When Newsweek tried to access the website at time of writing, an error message came up reading: «This site can’t be reached. story-train.com’s server IP address could not be found.»
A number of Rick and Morty fans took to Twitter to express their frustrations that the Story-Train.com website was not real. For example, one wrote: «As a @RickandMorty fan and a model train enthusiast I REALLY want a Story Train gahdamit.» Another viewer tweeted: «Where is my Story Train I’m so mad that if it doesn’t come out in the next week I’m going to delete Twitter I swear I will.»
There are some indications, however, that at one point there was going to be a real Story Train website which fans would be able to access after Rick and Morty Season 4, Episode 6. As Heavy.com reported, the Story Train website URL is owned by Turner Broadcasting System, the media conglomerate that owns Rick and Morty‘s network Adult Swim.
This could suggest a number of things. The company may have initially intended to put out a website featuring the train, but been unable to do so due to some sort of setback, likely caused by the coronavirus. However, they may have just purchased the domain so no one else could purchase it—after all, it would be potentially embarrassing for them if they featured a website URL on their show which some troll then bought the rights to and filled the site with something unpleasant.
Another option is that the show put the fake website URL into the show as a sort of meta-satire on capitalism. This was something suggested by show writer Jeff Loveness, who tweeted: «Rick and Morty is back tonight. I wrote the first 3 episodes & worked with such incredible writers & artists. I hope you like them. They’re about being trapped in the narrative choke of Capitalism, the broken worlds we escape through Love, and Paul Giamatti with C**-Gutters.»

Rick And Morty Story Train Website; Here’s Everything You Need To Know
Rick and Morty Story train website took social media by storm. Here’s everything that you need to know about story-train.com and full episode.
Rick and Morty season 4 episode 6 has achieved new levels of wittiness and utter brilliance. It features the duo hopping aboard the story train. By the end of the episode, they make a story-train.com joke about commercialism amid the coronavirus outbreak. Reports suggest that Rick and Morty Season 4 Episode 6 bear resemblance to Roy: A Life Well-Lived, which is similar to watching the show through a kaleidoscope that showcases vivid lives playing with minimal continuity.

Rick and Morty season 4 Episode 6: Storytrain website
Recently, Adult Swim aired Never Ricking Morty featuring the clip-based episode in which seemingly disconnected scenes were combined with a single premise. Rick and Morty season 4 episode 6 showcases the duo getting trapped aboard a train of anthological cars which breaks through the fourth wall and occasionally trapping them in lifelong stimulations. The show ends with the duo returning to the actual story.
Morty turns into a distressed war veteran who spends years searching for Rick to kill him so they can return to the story train. By the end of Rick and Morty season 4 episode 6, viewers learn that even the train is a fake stimulation within a toy called the story train which Morty bought for Rick. The latter asks viewers to search story-train.com on the internet and buy the toy. Despite Rock’s promise that the story-train.com is real and one can purchase the thing, he is lying.
Is Story-train.com real?
So far, no one can buy from the Rick and Morty Storytrain website. When people try to search for story-train.com, they find an error saying the IP address cannot be found. There is no actual Storytrain website set up for public consumption. However, it might get real at some point.
According to reports, turner broadcasting, which owns Adult Swim, brought the domain on March 6, 2019. It updated the Storytrain website on March 2, 2020. Take a look at fan tweets.

The Rick and Morty Story Train, Explained
All aboard the most self-referential Rick and Morty episode yet.
Rick and Morty made it’s glorious mid-season 4 return last night with “Never Ricking Morty,” an episode all aboard the “story train,” a never-ending space locomotive that’s one part Snowpiercer and three hundred parts the most postmodern piece of postmodern television ever. Which just means it’s confusing and self-referential and overflowing with irony, kind of like a Corona beer containing COVID-19. Or, as Rick Sanchez, explains: “It’s not a real train, Morty. It’s a story device. Literally. A literal literary device quite literally metaphorically containing us.”
During the episode’s post-credits scene (the episode itself ends with a diatribe about the importance of consumerism) viewers are invited to visit www.story-train.com where they can purchase the Rick and Morty story train.
The link, much like the various stories spat out from the episode, goes exactly nowhere, redirecting viewers to an error page. Whether the page-not-found page results from a delay in Adult Swim creating the page, or whether the error is itself a narrative non sequitur designed to imitate the themes of the episode—which include the many challenges to writing original stories—this debate will have viewers pulling out their hair, or levitating from the floor and spouting blood.

Episode 6, therefore, has that extra meta-textual element of not only riffing on storytelling and the pressure therein involved, but also being about Harmon and Roiland themselves, the creators of this very show, and their very specific writerly pressures.
In one scene, Rick and Morty are strapped down and enslaved by the “Story Lord” (clearly a stand-in for toxic fans), and forced to power an anthology machine that will endlessly generate Rick and Morty episodes. This is basically every Rick and Morty fan’s wet dream. And Harmon’s recurring nightmare. Rick: “You idiot, our potential isn’t limitless; you’ll never break the fifth wall before you burn us out.”

Adult Swim announced in 2018 that it had picked up the series for another 70 episodes (or, now, 70 minus the 6 so far this season).
Hopefully the burnout is more of a joke than a cry for help from writers who still have 60 more episodes to go (at least) after season 4 wraps.

The sound of a distant train whistle, especially at night, still stirs in me a powerful sense of yearning and adventure. A journey is beginning, or underway, and I can’t help imagining how long it will be (longer the better) and what the final destination is (somewhere remote and exotic is best). I love the notion of the train as a little self-contained world, with all the people and stories and intriguing spaces it might hold. In The Boundless, I just made my train a little bigger than most, and crammed it full of as many exciting things as I could manage.
I’m sure they’re out there, but I can’t think of any book that takes place almost entirely on the train itself – except for Murder on the Orient Express, which I’ve, perhaps shamefully, never read. What I’ve got instead is a rather eclectic list of books that have beguiling train scenes, or, at the very least, evocative references to trains.

There are, of course, many enticing modes of transportation in this hectic novel, but one of my favourite sequences is the transcontinental train trip across the American West, complete with uncooperative bison, a rickety suspension bridge, and a Sioux Indian attack.

EU considering ‘big Ukraine mission’ – top diplomat
The EU is considering establishing a major program to train Ukrainian troops in neighboring nations, the bloc’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, has said. EU defense ministers will discuss the matter during a meeting in Prague on August 29.
“I hope it will be approved,” Borrell stated on the sidelines of a forum in Santander, Spain on Monday. “Of course, it would be a big mission,” he said, adding that the training program “has to be up to the level of the conflict.”
«It seems reasonable that a war that is lasting and looks set to last requires an effort not only in terms of supplies of material but also training and help to organize the army,» he said.
The US and Britain are already training Ukrainian soldiers in the use of Western-supplied weapons and are also teaching them battle tactics. The news agency Euractiv quoted EU sources as saying that Ukraine’s foreign and defense ministers wrote a letter to Borrell last summer asking for a training program, and the bloc has since “drawn up several options.”
Moscow has insisted that the Western military assistance to Ukraine will lead to more casualties but will not change the course of the conflict.
“We should call a spade a spade: the EU will set up bases to train terrorists and Nazi militants for the Kiev regime,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote on social media on Monday.
“A hundred years ago, the Europeans also didn’t immediately realize what fascism is like. They realized later, but it was too late,” she added.
Russia sent troops into Ukraine on February 24, citing Kiev’s failure to implement the Minsk agreements, designed to give the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk special status within the Ukrainian state. The protocols, brokered by Germany and France, were first signed in 2014. Former Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko has since admitted that Kiev’s main goal was to use the ceasefire to buy time and “create powerful armed forces.”
In February 2022, the Kremlin recognized the Donbass republics as independent states and demanded that Ukraine officially declare itself a neutral country that will never join any Western military bloc. Kiev insists the Russian offensive was completely unprovoked.

When he woke up, his family was having breakfast. The turtle asked his mother, «Could I explore the forest?» She said, «Sure, but home before dark.»
His brother and sister wanted to go too but they were too young. So, the turtle went into the forest alone. Sadly, he got lost. Then he remembered his brain is actually like a compass. He concentrated really hard and was able to find his way safely back home. He was happy to be home.
MY TURTLE TEMPLETON By: Noah age 6
I love my Red Eared Slider turtle. His name is Templeton.
His ears are red. He has a tree house for a bed.
He eats rocks everyday. I hope he never goes away.

Kingdom in the Clouds By: Patches (age 10)
Once upon a time there was a kingdom in the clouds called Magic Kingdom of Lechar. It was ruled by a King and Queen and they had a daughter named Princess Flower. One day the princess was kidnapped by an evil dragon. The dragon was sent by Lord Zooca because he wanted all the riches of the king and queen. The king and queen asked two genies, named Sparkle and Jewel to find their daughter. The genies flew on their magic carpet to Arual, the kingdom of Lord Zooca. But, how would they get in? Luckily they ran into two fairies who knew the way into Arual.
Meanwhile, Lord Zooca was scheming about how to get the riches. He wrote a ransom note to the king and queen.
» If you don’t give me (Lord Zooca) all your riches, your little princess will be fed to my evil dragon!
P.S. All your riches! Yours truly, Lord Zooca»
Lord Zooca sent his ransom letter and then went to check on the princess. She was gone! It seems that Princess Flower had her own plans. She was running back to Kingdom Lechar. Lord Zooca sent his army to find her.
In the meantime the fairies and the genies were trying to get into Arual. The fairies were about to say something when they overheard Lord Zooca shouting to his men: «Go and find the princess! Go north 50 steps and east 60 steps. Then you will be in the middle of the Arual and Lechar.» They decided to follow the army and get to the princess first.
The genies and the fairies immediately jumped on their magic carpets and flew near the soldiers. They were careful not to be seen by the soldiers. When they saw the princess, they swooped down and picked her up before the soldiers could get her. The soldiers were shooting at them, but they got away safely.
In the end, Lord Zooca didn’t get the riches and he and his dragon were turned into bunnies by Jewel and Sparkle. The king and queen had a party for the genies and Princess Flower, and they were all friends forever.
Princess Flower By: Callie (age 10)
Once upon a time there was a magic kingdom in the sky called Lechar. One day the king and queen gave a grand ball for Princess Flower. They also invited Prince Leaf because he and the princess were madly in love at first sight. The king and queen also planned a wedding for them. While the party was going on the queen went to get the princess but she was gone.
While the queen searched the castle, the princess was outside in the flower garden picking flowers for her wedding. The princess layed down to rest in the garden. She closed her eyes and fell asleep. She was awakened by a rustling noise. She peeked through the flowers and saw a gelert (a dog with long, stringy ears). She picked up the puppy; it was a s soft as velvet. She decided to name the gelert Velvet.
The princess and the puppy headed for the castle. Out of nowhere a dragon appeared. It leaned down in front of them. They climbed on its back. The dragon flew them out of the clouds and then the princess saw the most beautiful castle ever! The dragon landed in front of the castle in a parking space with a sign that read: Reserved for Divad. The dragon landed and the princess and Velvet got off his back. A little elf was there to meet them. He was wearing a suit like one of those elevator guys. He also had a note pad.
He came up to the princess and asked her name. She said, «Princess Flower.» The elf wrote it down and told her to follow him into the castle. It was even more beautiful inside than outside. They were led down a long, narrow hallway. Finally the hallway ended and they were in front of three big doors. The elf took out a big key and opened the biggest door. They walked in the room and saw a wizard sitting on a big gold throne with jewels on it. The elf walked over to the wizard and handed him the note.
«Hello Princess,» said the wizard. My name is Tiodi and you are the chosen one. «
«The chosen one! For what?» asked the princess. «Our castle is right under earthquake mountain, and we never get any peace and quiet. So we need a better place to live. My castle is called Noiram. I would like to move it to your kingdom.»
The princess promised to ask her mother and father for permission to move Noiram if Tiodi would take her back to her kingdom for her wedding. Tiodi agreed. His magic dragon Divad took her back home. She married Prince Leaf, and her parents gave Tiodi permission to move Noiram next door.
The big day came. The elves secured the Noiram in Lechar. Tiodi rode the dragon over to the princess’ window and told her and her family to come to a party at his castle. So they all had a party and lived happily ever after.

Stories
Stories are a type of training data used to train your assistant’s dialogue management model. Stories can be used to train models that are able to generalize to unseen conversation paths.
Format#
A story is a representation of a conversation between a user and an AI assistant, converted into a specific format where user inputs are expressed as intents (and entities when necessary), while the assistant’s responses and actions are expressed as action names.
Here’s an example of a dialogue in the Rasa story format:
User Messages#
While writing stories, you do not have to deal with the specific contents of the messages that the users send. Instead, you can take advantage of the output from the NLU pipeline, which lets you use just the combination of an intent and entities to refer to all the possible messages the users can send to mean the same thing.
It is important to include the entities here as well because the policies learn to predict the next action based on a combination of both the intent and entities (you can, however, change this behavior using the use_entities attribute).
Actions#
All actions executed by the bot, including responses are listed in stories under the action key.
You can use a response from your domain as an action by listing it as one in a story. Similarly, you can indicate that a story should call a custom action by including the name of the custom action from the actions list in your domain.
Events#
During training, Rasa Open Source does not call the action server. This means that your assistant’s dialogue management model doesn’t know which events a custom action will return.
Because of this, events such as setting a slot or activating/deactivating a form have to be explicitly written out as part of the stories. For more info, see the documentation on Events.
Slot Events#
Form Events#
There are three kinds of events that need to be kept in mind while dealing with forms in stories.
writing form stories
In order to get around the pitfall of forgetting to add events, the recommended way to write these stories is to use interactive learning.
Checkpoints and OR statements#
Checkpoints and OR statements should be used with caution, if at all. There is usually a better way to achieve what you want by using Rules or the ResponseSelector.
Checkpoints#
You can use checkpoints to modularize and simplify your training data. Checkpoints can be useful, but do not overuse them. Using lots of checkpoints can quickly make your example stories hard to understand, and will slow down training.
Here is an example of stories that contain checkpoints:
Unlike regular stories, checkpoints are not restricted to starting with user input. As long as the checkpoint is inserted at the right points in the main stories, the first event can be a custom action or a response as well.
Or Statements#
Another way to write shorter stories, or to handle multiple intents or slot events the same way, is to use an or statement. For example, if you ask the user to confirm something, and you want to treat the affirm and thankyou intents in the same way. The story below will be converted into two stories at training time:
You can also use or statements with slot events. The following means the story requires that the current value for the name slot is set and is either joe or bob :
or statements can be useful, but if you are using a lot of them, it is probably better to restructure your domain and/or intents. Overusing OR statements will slow down training.
Test Conversation Format#
The test conversation format is a format that combines both NLU data and stories into a single file for evaluation. Read more about this format in Testing Your Assistant.
This format is only used for testing and cannot be used for training.
End-to-end Training#
End-to-end training is an experimental feature. We introduce experimental features to get feedback from our community, so we encourage you to try it out! However, the functionality might be changed or removed in the future. If you have feedback (positive or negative) please share it with us on the Rasa Forum.
With end-to-end training, you do not have to deal with the specific intents of the messages that are extracted by the NLU pipeline or with separate utter_ responses in the domain file. Instead, you can include the text of the user messages and/or bot responses directly in your stories. See the training data format for detailed description of how to write end-to-end stories.
You can mix training data in the end-to-end format with labeled training data which has intent s and action s specified: Stories can have some steps defined by intents/actions and other steps defined directly by user or bot utterances.
We call it end-to-end training because policies can consume and predict actual text. For end-to-end user inputs, intents classified by the NLU pipeline and extracted entities are ignored.
Only Rule Policy and TED Policy allow end-to-end training.
RulePolicy uses simple string matching during prediction. Namely, rules based on user text will only match if the user text strings inside your rules and input during prediction are identical.
TEDPolicy passes user text through an additional Neural Network to create hidden representations of the text. In order to obtain robust performance you need to provide enough training stories to capture a variety of user texts for any end-to-end dialogue turn.
Rasa policies are trained for next utterance selection. The only difference to creating utter_ response is how TEDPolicy featurizes bot utterances. In case of an utter_ action, TEDPolicy sees only the name of the action, while if you provide actual utterance using bot key, TEDPolicy will featurize it as textual input depending on the NLU configuration. This can help in case of similar utterances in slightly different situations. However, this can also make things harder to learn because the fact that different utterances have similar texts make it easier for TEDPolicy to confuse these utterances.

Guide: How To Come Up With A Slogan For Your Mobile Personal Trainer
Why Is Your Slogan Important?
Slogans are critical when doing any sort of marketing or advertising for your business.
Often times, your slogan can even be more important than the name of your brand.
Because your slogan has the ability to show your customer the type of commitment you have to them and also tells them exactly what your brand stands for.
So, let’s dive into all of the critical pieces to coming up with a great slogan for your mobile personal trainer.
6 Tips For Creating A Catchy Slogan
1. Keep it short, simple and avoid difficult words
Similar to naming your business, your slogan should be short and simple.
A great rule of thumb is that your slogan should be under 10 words. This will make it easy for your customer to understand and remember.
2. Tell what you do and focus on what makes you different
There are a few different ways you can incorporate what makes your business special in your slogan:
3. Be consistent
Chances are, if you’re coming up with a slogan, you may already have your business name, logo, mission, branding etc.
It’s important to create a slogan that is consistent with all of the above.
This will help when advertising your business and creating a powerful website.
4. Ensure the longevity of your slogan
Times are changing quickly, and so are businesses.
When coming up with your slogan, you may want to consider creating something that is timeless, and won’t just fade with new trends.
Try to avoid using terms like «we are the only» and anything with the word «technology,» because your statement could be contradicted at any moment.
5. Consider your audience
When finding a catchy slogan name, you’ll want to make sure that this resonates across your entire audience.
It’s possible that your slogan could make complete sense to your audience in Europe, but may not resonate with your US audience.
6. Get feedback!
This is one of the easiest ways to know if your slogan will be perceived well, and a step that a lot of brands drop the ball on.
Ask friends, family, strangers and most importantly, those that are considered to be in your target market.
Here’s a few ways you can ask for feedback:
Examples of Great Slogans And Taglines
Needing a little inspo? We put together a list of some of the best slogans and taglines of all times.
Conclusion
Creating a memorable slogan does not have to be difficult, as long as you follow these steps and stay true to your brand and mission.

Story
Stories are the primary artifact used to define system behavior in Agile. They are short, simple descriptions of functionality usually told from the user’s perspective and written in their language. Each one is intended to enable the implementation of a small, vertical slice of system behavior that supports incremental development.
Stories provide just enough information for both business and technical people to understand the intent. Details are deferred until the story is ready to be implemented. Through acceptance criteria and acceptance tests, stories get more specific, helping to ensure system quality.
User stories deliver functionality directly to the end user. Enabler stories bring visibility to the work items needed to support exploration, architecture, infrastructure, and compliance.
Details
SAFe’s Requirements Model describes a four-tier hierarchy of artifacts that outline functional system behavior: Epic, Capability, Feature, and story. Collectively, they describe all the work to create the solution’s intended behavior. But the detailed implementation work is described through stories, which make up the Team Backlog. Most stories emerge from business and enabler features in the Program Backlog, but others come from the team’s local context.
Each story is a small, independent behavior that can be implemented incrementally and provides some value to the user or the Solution. It’s a vertical slice of functionality to ensure that every Iteration delivers new value. Stories are small and must be completed in a single iteration (see the splitting stories section).
Often, stories are first written on an index card or sticky note. The physical nature of the card creates a tangible relationship between the team, the story, and the user: it helps engage the entire team in story writing. Sticky notes offer other benefits as well: they help visualize work and can be readily placed on a wall or table, rearranged in sequence, and even passed off when necessary. Stories allow improved understanding of the scope and progress:
While anyone can write stories, approving them into the team backlog and accepting them into the system baseline are the responsibility of the Product Owner. Of course, stickies don’t scale well across the Enterprise, so stories often move quickly into Agile Lifecycle Management (ALM) tooling.
There are two types of stories in SAFe, user stories and enabler stories, as described below.
Sources of Stories
Stories are typically driven by splitting business and enabler features, as Figure 1 illustrates.
Figure 1. Example of a business feature split into stories
User Stories
User stories are the primary means of expressing needed functionality. They largely replace the traditional requirements specification. In some cases, however, they serve as a means to explain and develop system behavior that’s later recorded in specifications that support compliance, suppliers, traceability, or other needs.
Because they focus on the user as the subject of interest, and not the system, user stories are value and customer-centric. To support this, the recommended form of expression is the ‘user-voice form’, as follows:
As a (user role), I want to (activity), so that (business value)
By using this format, the teams are guided to understand who is using the system, what they are doing with it, and why they are doing it. Applying the ‘user voice’ format routinely tends to increase the team’s domain competence; they come to better understand the real business needs of their user. Figure 2 provides an example.
Figure 2. Example user story in user voice form
As described in Design Thinking, personas describe specific characteristics of representative users that help teams better understand their end user. Example personas for the rider in Figure 2 could be a thrill-seeker ‘Jane’ and a timid rider ‘Bob’. Stories descriptions can then reference these personas (As Jane I want…).
While the user story voice is the common case, not every system interacts with an end user. Sometimes the ‘user’ is a device (e.g., printer) or a system (e.g., transaction server). In these cases, the story can take on the form illustrated in Figure 3.
Figure 3. Example of a user story with a ‘system’ as a user
Enabler Stories
Teams also develop the new architecture and infrastructure needed to implement new user stories. In this case, the story may not directly touch any end user. Teams use ‘enabler stories’ to support exploration, architecture, or infrastructure. Enabler stories can be expressed in technical rather than user-centric language, as Figure 4 illustrates.
Figure 4. Example enabler story
There are many other types of Enabler stories including:
Enabler stories are demonstrated just like user stories, typically by showing the knowledge gained, artifacts produced, or the user interface, stub, or mock-up.
Writing Good Stories
Good stories require multiple perspectives. In agile, the entire team – Product Owner, developers, and testers – create a shared understanding of what to build to reduce rework and increase throughput. Teams collaborate using Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) to define detailed acceptance tests that definitively describe each story. Good stories require multiple perspectives:
Collaborative story writing ensures all perspectives are addressed and everyone agrees on the story’s behavior with the results represented in the story’s description, acceptance criteria, and acceptance tests. The acceptance tests are written using the system’s domain language with Behavior-Driven Development (BDD). BDD tests are then automated and run continuously to maintain Built-In Quality. The BDD tests are written against system requirements (stories) and therefore can be used as the definitive statement for the system’s behavior, replacing document-based specifications.
The 3Cs: Card, Conversation, Confirmation
Ron Jeffries, one of the inventors of XP, is credited with describing the 3Cs of a story:
These just-in-time discussions create a shared understanding of the scope that formal documentation cannot provide. Specification by example replaces detailed documentation. Conversations also help uncover gaps in user scenarios and NFRs.
Agile teams automate acceptance tests wherever possible, often in business-readable, domain-specific language. Automation creates an executable specification to validate and verify the solution. Automation also provides the ability to quickly regression-test the system, enhancing Continuous Integration, refactoring, and maintenance.
Investing in Good Stories
Agile teams spend a significant amount of time discovering, elaborating, and understanding user stories and writing acceptance tests This is as it should be, because it represents the fact that:
Writing the code for an understood objective is not necessarily the hardest part of software development,
rather it is understanding what the real objective for the code is. Therefore, investing in good user stories, albeit at the last responsible moment, is a worthy effort for the team. Bill Wake, coined the acronym INVEST [1], to describe the attributes of a good user story.
Splitting Good Stories
Smaller stories allow faster, more reliable implementation, since small items flow through any system faster, with less variability, and reduced risk. Therefore, splitting bigger stories into smaller ones is a mandatory skill for every Agile team. It’s both the art and the science of incremental development. Ten ways to split stories are described in Agile Software Requirements [1]. A summary of these techniques follows:
Figure 6 illustrates an example of splitting by use-case scenarios.
Figure 6. An example of splitting a big Story into smaller stories
Note: A more detailed description of user stories can be found in the whitepaper, a User Story Primer, which you can download here.
Estimating Stories
Agile teams use story points and ‘estimating poker’ to value their work [1, 2]. A story point is a singular number that represents a combination of qualities:
Story points are relative, without a connection to any specific unit of measure. The size (effort) of each story is estimated relative to the smallest story, which is assigned a size of ‘one.’ A modified Fibonacci sequence (1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 20, 40, 100) is applied that reflects the inherent uncertainty in estimating, especially large numbers (e.g., 20, 40, 100) [2].
Estimating Poker
Agile teams often use ‘estimating poker,’ which combines expert opinion, analogy, and disaggregation to create quick but reliable estimates. Disaggregation refers to splitting a story or features into smaller, easier to estimate pieces.
(Note that there are a number of other methods used as well.) The rules of estimating poker are:
Some amount of preliminary design discussion is appropriate. However, spending too much time on design discussions is often wasted effort. The real value of estimating poker is to come to an agreement on the scope of a story. It’s also fun!
Velocity
The team’s velocity for an iteration is equal to the sum of the points for all the completed stories that met their Definition of Done (DoD). As the team works together over time, their average velocity (completed story points per iteration) becomes reliable and predictable. Predictable velocity assists with planning and helps limit Work in Process (WIP), as teams don’t take on more stories than their historical velocity would allow. This measure is also used to estimate how long it takes to deliver epics, features, capabilities, and enablers, which are also forecasted using story points.
Capacity
Capacity is the portion of the team’s velocity that is actually available for any given iteration. Vacations, training, and other events can make team members unavailable to contribute to an iteration’s goals for some portion of the iteration. This decreases the maximum potential velocity for that team for that iteration. For example, a team that averages 40 points delivered per iteration would adjust their maximum velocity down to 36 if a team member is on vacation for one week. Knowing this in advance, the team only commits to a maximum of 36 story points during iteration planning. This also helps during PI Planning to forecast the actual available capacity for each iteration in the PI so the team doesn’t over-commit when building their PI Objectives.
Starting Baseline for Estimation
In standard Scrum, each team’s story point estimating—and the resulting velocity—is a local and independent concern. At scale, it becomes difficult to predict the story point size for larger epics and features when team velocities can vary wildly. To overcome this, SAFe teams initially calibrate a starting story point baseline where one story point is defined roughly the same across all teams. There is no need to recalibrate team estimation or velocity. Calibration is performed one time when launching new Agile Release Trains.
Normalized story points provide a method for getting to an agreed starting baseline for stories and velocity as follows:
Example: Assuming a six-person team composed of three developers, two testers, and one PO, with no vacations or holidays, then the estimated initial velocity = 5 × 8 points = 40 points/iteration. (Note: Adjusting a bit lower may be necessary if one of the developers and testers is also the Scrum Master.)
In this way, story points are somewhat comparable across teams. Management can better understand the cost for a story point and more accurately determine the cost of an upcoming feature or epic.
While teams will tend to increase their velocity over time—and that’s a good thing— in reality, the number tends to remain stable. A team’s velocity is far more affected by changing team size and technical context than by productivity variations.
Stories in the SAFe Requirements Model
As described in the SAFe Requirements Model article, the Framework applies an extensive set of artifacts and relationships to manage the definition and testing of complex systems in a Lean and Agile fashion. Figure 7 illustrates the role of stories in this larger picture.
Figure 7. Stories in the SAFe Requirements Model
At scale, stories are often (but not always) created by new features. And each story has acceptance tests and likely unit tests. Unit tests primarily serve to ensure that the technical implementation of the story is correct. Also, this is a critical starting point for test automation, as unit tests are readily automated, as described in the Test-Driven Development (TDD) article.
(Note: Figure 7 uses Unified Modeling Language (UML) notation to represent the relationships between the objects: zero to many (0..*), one to many (1..*), one to one (1), and so on.)

What Are Story Points?
Story points are a unit of measure for expressing an estimate of the overall effort that will be required to fully implement a product backlog item or any other piece of work.
When we estimate with story points, we assign a point value to each item. The raw values we assign are unimportant. What matters are the relative values. A story that is assigned a 2 should be twice as much as a story that is assigned a 1. It should also be two-thirds of a story that is estimated as 3 story points.
Instead of assigning 1, 2 and 3, that team could instead have assigned 100, 200 and 300. Or 1 million, 2 million and 3 million. It is the ratios that matter, not the actual numbers.
What Goes Into a Story Point?
Because story points represent the effort to develop a story, a team’s estimate must include everything that can affect the effort. That could include:
When estimating with story points, be sure to consider each of these factors. Let’s see how each impacts the effort estimate given by story points.
The Amount of Work to Do
Certainly, if there is more to do of something, the estimate of effort should be larger. Consider the case of developing two web pages. The first page has only one field and a label asking to enter a name. The second page has 100 fields to also simply be filled with a bit of text.
The second page is no more complex. There are no interactions among the fields and each is nothing more than a bit of text. There’s no additional risk on the second page. The only difference between these two pages is that there is more to do on the second page.
The second page should be given more story points. It probably doesn’t get 100 times more points even though there are 100 times as many fields. There are, after all, economies of scale and maybe making the second page is only 2 or 3 or 10 times as much effort as the first page.
Risk and Uncertainty
The amount of risk and uncertainty in a product backlog item should affect the story point estimate given to the item.
If a team is asked to estimate a product backlog item and the stakeholder asking for it is unclear about what will be needed, that uncertainty should be reflected in the estimate.
If implementing a feature involves changing a particular piece of old, brittle code that has no automated tests in place, that risk should be reflected in the estimate.
Complexity
Complexity should also be considered when providing a story point estimate. Think back to the earlier example of developing a web page with 100 trivial text fields with no interactions between them.
Now think about another web page also with 100 fields. But some are date fields with calendar widgets that pop up. Some are formatted text fields like phone numbers or Social Security numbers. Other fields do checksum validations as with credit card numbers.
This screen also requires interactions between fields. If the user enters a Visa card, a three-digit CVV field is shown. But if the user enters an American Express card, a four-digit CVV field is shown.
Even though there are still 100 fields on this screen, these fields are harder to implement. They’re more complex. They’ll take more time. There’s more chance the developer makes a mistake and has to back up and correct it.
This additional complexity should be reflected in the estimate provided.
Consider All Factors: Amount of Work, Risk and Uncertainty, and Complexity
It may seem impossible to combine three factors into one number and provide that as an estimate. It’s possible, though, because effort is the unifying factor. Estimators consider how much effort will be required to do the amount of work described by a product backlog item.
Estimators then consider how much effort to include for dealing with the risk and uncertainty inherent in the product backlog item. Usually this is done by considering the risk of a problem occurring and the impact if the risk does occur. So, for example, more will be included in the estimate for a time-consuming risk that is likely to occur than for a minor and unlikely risk.
Estimators also consider the complexity of the work to be done. Work that is complex will require more thinking, may require more trial-and-error experimentation, perhaps more back-and-forth with a customer, may take longer to validate and may need more time to correct mistakes.
All three factors must be combined.
Consider Everything in the Definition of Done
A story point estimate must include everything involved in getting a product backlog item all the way to done. If a team’s definition of done includes creating automated tests to validate the story (and that would be a good idea), the effort to create those tests should be included in the story point estimate.
Story points can be a hard concept to grasp. But the effort to fully understand that points represent effort as impacted by the amount of work, the complexity of the work and any risk or uncertainty in the work will be worth it.

«This was awesome awesome awesome. In my 25+ years as a marketer, I have learned more in 2 days than my years on Madison Avenue.»
«After attending a two-day StoryBrand workshop and leaving with a ready-to-use BrandScript, we implemented the framework on our website, as well as in our digital and email marketing campaigns. I am not exaggerating when I say that we saw immediate results. One year ago, our custom homes construction company was hoping to place another project into the pipeline before completing the current job to prevent a lull in work. Today, our calendar is jam-packed with work and we’re breaking ground on a new project every two weeks for the next three months. The icing on the cake has been our ability to spend less on paid advertising, and our demand generation through organic messaging is producing a larger volume of higher-quality leads at a fraction of the cost.»
«Going to the conference in Nashville has always been on my bucket list, but I couldn’t afford it until now. When COVID-19 happened and this opportunity showed up, it was an easy yes. The group sessions were by far the very best part of this experience. It’s been incredible.»

History of Trains
History of the modern trains spans the range of last two hundred years of modern human civilization, who in that time used this incredible discovery to drastically change industry, human expansion, and the way we travel on daily basis.
From the first time steam train rolled over the railways of industrial England in early 1800s to the modern times when bullet trains carry thousands of passengers with incredible speeds and freight train carry substantial amount of worlds goods, trains enabled us to develop our civilization with unexpected consequences that nobody expected. Distant lands become almost instantly reachable (3000 miles journey from New York to California was cut down from one or two months to few days!), industrial manufacture could be powered with infinite amount of raw materials and outgoing transport of finished goods, and sudden fast travel (far before first airplanes were discovered) caused the need of implementing standardized time zones across entire world.
Arrival of first non-condensing pressurized steam engines in first few years of 19th century enabled engineers to build new kind of railway system and train cars – trains that were built to carry much more materials than ever before.
History of Railways
If you ever wanted to find out more about long and eventful history of trains, steam engines, development of first metro system and worldwide railway systems, here is the best place to do so.
Invention of Trains
Train invention represent one of the most important times in the history of human expansion and development. Here you can find out all about that period of history, inventors that created them and the impact first trains had on us.
History of Subway
Here you can find out more about subway transport systems which appeared during age when steam engines ruled railways, and inevitable electrical revolution enabled them to spread across many major cities of the world.
Facts about Trains
Facts and events that trains collected over last 200 years are numerous and extensive. If you wanted to see how this once small industry managed to grow into juggernaut that feeds modern manufacturing industry and enables reliable and safe travel to billions of people all across the world, this is the perfect place to do so.

(Never Ricking Morty)
Эпизод называется «Риконечная Мортистория» (Never Ricking Morty), что отсылает к фильму «Бесконечная история» (1984, The Neverending Story).
(Promortyus)
Glorzo
(The Vat of Acid Episode)
Looney Tunes.
Marvel?
(Childrick of Mort)
(Star Mort Rickturn of the Jerri)
Fight!

Little Toy Train Story
This is one of the best adventure stories for kids. Little Toy Train was a goods train. He had a shiny engine, three wagons, a cool van, and a bright red guard’s van. Whenever he sped around his track in one corner of the playroom, he called out gaily, “CHUG-CHUG!” His bell tinkled merrily as he raced over the familiar route.
First, there was the tiny village with its stations and shops, its houses and trees and church. Then, there was a high hill that he chugged up ever so slowly but whizzed down, lickety-split! Next was the long, dark mountain tunnel and the bridge which spanned the glassy blue lake. And he was back at the village station. Also, read Treasure Island.

Image Source@ mytoyandgames.com. One day, after many trips around the track, Little Toy Train said sadly, “It’s always the same! Every time I chug up the hill, I whizz down it. Every time I whizz down the hill, I go through the tunnel. Every time I come out of the tunnel, I cross the bridge. Then, I’m here again at the station. I wish I could do something different just once!” His wish did not come true, at least not then.
One night, however, when everything was quiet, Little Toy Train discovered that someone had taken him off his track and had forgotten to put him back. Moonlight glistened through the windows, so he could see his village but he didn’t know how to get there. He tried to move. “CHUG-CHUG!” he said slowly and then faster. Little Toy Train began to move. His silvery wheels went round and round. His headlight blinked on and off like a firefly. His bell tinkled merrily. “I can move without track!” he said happily. “Now, I can do something different.” “CHUG-CHUG!” he said as he went under the wheels of a tricycle.
Suddenly, his light went off and bumped into something soft. “Ouch, Do look where you’re going, Little Toy Train,” someone cried. Little Toy Train’s headlight blinked on again. He saw that he had bumped into Teddy Bear. “I’m sorry!” he said. “My light doesn’t work well when I’m off my track doing something different. Please excuse me!” “That’s alright,” said Teddy Bear as he was not really hurt. Also, read The Adventures Of Brave Eagle.
Little Toy Train chugged along in front of Teddy Bear and the other toys sitting beside him- Baby Doll, Rocking Horse, Furry Kitten, Cowboy and Cuddly Dog. They all smiled at him. “You seem to be having lots of fun, Little Toy Train,” said Cowboy. “Indeed, I’m doing something different,” he answered. “How about giving me a ride?” asked Cowboy. “I’ll sit on top of your guard’s van and pretend I’m riding a horse.” “Alright,” said Little Toy Train.
With Cowboy on his guard’s van, Little Toy Train raced across the floor. Suddenly, there was a big round object in front of him- a red rubber ball. He knew he would never be able to stop in time to avoid an accident. But when he crashed into the ball, a very funny thing happened. The ball just rolled away. It was so funny that Little Toy Train did it again and again. “This is more fun than horse-riding!” exclaimed Cowboy. When Little Toy Train rammed into the ball again, Cowboy laughed so much that he fell off the van. He decided that he had had enough riding, so Little Toy Train went on alone.
He chugged past some toy soldiers and a drum, past a doll’s house and an airplane. He was enjoying himself so much that he didn’t realize that his headlight was out again. He didn’t realize until he discovered he could see nothing at all. Even the moonlight was gone. He had zoomed into a toy tent. “I’m lost,” he said. He went round and round trying to find a way out but without a light, it was impossible to see anything.
Suddenly, someone rubbed against him. It frightened him. He asked for help. “Don’t be scared, Little Toy Train. I’m Furry Kitten. With my green eyes, I can see in the dark. I’ll help you! Let me hook my tail into your bumper, and I’ll pull you out.” And sure enough, Furry Kitten did that. He pulled Little Toy Train back to the very spot where his night’s adventure had started.
Later that day, after someone had put him back, Little Toy Train again chugged up and down the hill, through the tunnel, across the bridge, and through the village to the station. Now his bell tinkled more merrily and his “CHUG-CHUG!” sounded happier than it ever had before. Little Toy Train’s wish had come true- he had done something different! First of all, I decided to study Russian in order to know a Slavic Language. I love learning languages as a hobby. I enjoy practicing languages while traveling.
I am learning Russian for a few years. During this time, I have been using several materials, especially audios and vídeo-lessons, and few textbooks about grammar.
Personally, having very little free time is one of the main difficulties to study Russian as well as having bad memory to remember new vocabulary. Russian words are very difficult for me to memorize. I need lots of repetitions.
I like so much “Russian through stories” because the program is based on the “Storytelling method”, which is my favorite method to learn foreign languages. Crazy short stories help me remember words associated with situations, not just isolated words. At the same time, using short stories, after many repetitions, I can reproduce language structures and grammar automatically, without thinking. This is the best way to be fluent in any language.
I would like to recommend the “Russian through stories” podcast course to anyone interested in studying Russian. You can even learn many cultural aspects of Russian culture by using this course. You can hear the lessons anywhere: while cooking, while driving while practicing sport. I especially like the short version of the lesson, which is very useful to focus on repetitions.
I will dedicate myself to studying only with this method until I finish all the letters.
Thank you very much for your incredible work. Very professional.
Translator, teacher, polyglot
I’m very interested in Russian literature and the Russian countryside (and its culture).
I love how the language sounds and Russian-speaking people always seemed to be very friendly to me. And I like tea and vodka 🙂
I mainly use Dmitry Gurbatov’s Storytelling-method, and I try to combine those courses with the abundance of learning material available online. For now, the only method I use that actually includes active talking is the Story-telling method.
The main difficulty I encountered during my (ongoing) learning process was to learn the vocabulary and the vocal stress (and the lack of accent use in the written language…) – the grammar was fine for me as a native German speaker.
I think Russian podcasts are very good. I like to listen to them when I go for a walk! The quality is great, and I especially enjoy the lessons with Jan (Reverse translation part)
I like the interactive aspect of this program, the clear and entertaining explanation (opposed to the usually very boring explications you’d get in many other language courses) and the rapidly advancing degree of complexity (without becoming overwhelming) – the material is quite dense and enables you to use the language quite fast if you stay put and study with some discipline.
I started to learn Russian for travel. I want to visit Russia and see all that beautiful stuff that I see on TV.
Usually, I use YouTube videos by Real Russian Club and others, and sites like pen4pals and Masterrussian.
The main difficulty I encountered was mostly poor memory and a bit of lack of time.
In “Russian Through Stories” program I like that it solves the issue of lack of time, since I can listen whilst going to work, and while doing my work.
Also, I liked this method of Storytelling, even before the story began I was already learning things about Russia, like in the first one where you explain the relation of vodka and perestroika. The second one about the Dachas and so on. Cultural knowledge it’s very interesting too.
I think listening is very important, as long as practicing with native speakers, writing and/or speaking.
Thank you two for spending your time to help people!
My name is Maribel Garavito, I’m Colombian. I really liked your method because it is very interesting, it’s not boring and I can learn about Russian culture.
I am 35 years old. The reason I decided to study Russian is that at the moment I live in Moscow and am going to study at Russian State University for the Humanities. I am currently learning from books and grammar exercises, but it can be very difficult to learn this way, and therefore I am happy with your learning method. I recommend it because it is very easy to learn when you understand and can hear every word.
I’m learning Russian because I want to live in Russia.
I’m doing my best to learn, except watching movies. I`m listening, reading.
Overall, the major challenges I encountered were motivation and humility to learn from mistakes.
In your program, I loved the didactic and interactive way of learning through dialogues and stories.
The lessons are interesting and fun, the theme is topical and there are lots of interaction with dialogues and appropriate vocabulary;)
My advice to those who also want to learn Russian is to have perseverance, humility, and motivation.
I started to learn Russian because initially, I was interested in the culture of the post-Soviet block as well as wanting to communicate with Russian-speaking friends.
I did it on my own through textbooks and private lessons through iTalki.
The main issue I encountered was a lack of time. At the time I was studying full time at university and had different obligations. It was hard to properly devote the time needed to study Russian.
In Russian Through Stories «от А до Я» I like the fact that the stories about the letters of the Russian alphabet are presented in a very interesting way.
The dialogues are appropriate for lower-intermediate learners and are interesting.
I would recommend this program, together with supplementary iTalki lessons and a good grammar reference guide.
I live in Bogota, the capital of Colombia. I’m 35 years old. I’m learning Russian because I’m going to a Russian university.
I’m using a lot of scholastic materials like textbooks and lectures. The problem is it’s boring to learn a language this way. I also have relatively poor memory and vocabulary doesn’t stick.
“Russian through stories” program is different. It’s very interesting and it teaches you the language in a completely different way. It’s something you want to listen to. And this is exactly what one needs when learning Russian.
You should know why you’re actually doing this, what is your goal. And since It is not the easiest language to master you should really love it. That’s where your program helps!

Times, fares & tickets in Russia.
The Russian rail system is one of the largest in the world, and trains serve almost every town and city in Russia. Train travel is a safe, comfortable and inexpensive way to get around. In fact, it can be safer to use Russian trains than internal flights! It will certainly be cheaper and far more interesting. This page will help you understand Russian train system, choose the right train & on-board accommodation for you, and buy your train tickets securely online from a reputable source.
IMPORTANT UPDATE: The Foreign Office now advises against all travel to Russia because of the war between Russia & Ukraine, see www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/russia. I have left this page as is, but Real Russia is no longer trading because of sanctions and the Russian Railways website www.rzd.ru is currently unreachable.

How to check Russian train times & fares.
There are several ways to check train times & fares for journeys within Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and the other ex-Soviet republics:
Use the Real Russia online booking system. This links directly to the Russian Railways database for train times & availability, although the prices shown are those charged by Real Russia, which include their booking fee (typically 15%-23% above the ticket office price). You can use this to book online with Real Russia, a good option as they offer good English-language after sales service.
Use the Russian Railways website, www.rzd.ru. This shows up-to-date train times & availability, plus the actual Russian Railways price that you’d pay at the ticket office. It used to be available only in Russian, but since 2013 it’s had a (somewhat hidden) English version.
Booking tips
Booking opens 90 days ahead for most trains. From April 2019, a handful of trains including the Moscow-St Petersburg Red Arrow and (for summer) all Sapsan trains will open up to 120 days ahead.
Train fares in Russia are not particularly expensive, although there have been significant price rises over the last few years. Moscow-St Petersburg on a top-quality firmeny sleeper train such as train 1/2 Krasnaya Strela costs around 3,200 roubles. On a lower quality Moscow-St Petersburg overnight train such as train 56, you can find kupй tickets for as little as 2,260 rubles, platskartny berths for 1,400 rubles, though I’d still recommend taking the better trains.
Look for trains described as firm, short for firmeny which is the top quality category of long-distance fast train with the most modern coaches and a high standard of on board service.
Russian fares vary by season. Higher fares are charged at Easter, New Year, July & August, lower fares in January & February. Higher fares are charged for the fast high-quality firmeny trains, lower fares for slower unnamed low-quality trains.
On the best trains you can buy tickets either ‘without services’ (no meals) or ‘with services’ (meals included, either served in the restaurant or in your compartment). A number against a knife & fork logo on the Real Russia booking system or a ‘У’ with a number in the ‘category’ column on rzd.ru indicates the total number of meals you get with a ‘with services’ ticket, it might be just one or two even on a journey lasting several days. An example of the sort of meal served can be seen in these photos from the Moscow-Irkutsk-Vladivostok Rossiya.
Trains used to run to Moscow time in Russia, even where local time was 7 hours ahead of Moscow, and Russian rail timetables used to show Moscow time for all stops. However, after over a century RZD Russian Railways ended this practice in August 2018, and you should now find online booking systems and station timetables showing local time at each stop. It makes things a lot easier to understand!
Children: In Russia, one child aged 0 to 4 travels free, children aged 5 to 9 travel at half fare, children aged 10 and over must pay full fare. Important: Note that unlike trains in most of Europe, on Russian trains even infants and babies travelling for free must have a (free of charge) ticket with their name on it.
Moscow to St Petersburg by train: A quick guide.
Moscow-St Petersburg is the most popular route in Russia. This trip has traditionally been made overnight by comfortable sleeper train (with a hotel bill saved!), though Sapsan high-speed daytime trains are now making their appearance with the journey time cut to as little as 3 hours 50 minutes. Incidentally, in 2010 train travel had a 77% share of the Moscow to St Petersburg market (48% Sapsan and 29% sleeper & other trains). Air travel accounted for just 23% of journeys.
Sapsan high-speed daytime trains, introduced on 18 December 2009: The first Sapsan (Peregrine Falcon) 250 km/h high-speed daytime trains were introduced between Moscow & St Petersburg in December 2009, taking just 3 hours 55 minutes. There are now 5 services daily in each direction, with a 99% on-time performance and an average load factor of 83% full. The Sapsan trains are built by Siemens and based on the superb German ICE. See the Russian railways Sapsan video.
Overnight sleeper trains: The most historic Moscow-St Petersburg overnight train and still one of the best is the Krasnya Strela or Red Arrow, train 1 southbound, train 2 northbound, see the photos below. This was Russia’s premier train in Soviet times, and still leaves both Moscow (Oktyabrskaya/Leningradski station) & St Petersburg (Glavny/Oktyabrskaya/Moskovskaya station) at 23:55, arriving around 08:25 next morning. It has high-quality 2-berth an 4-berth sleepers, plus an expensive deluxe sleeping-car with 2-berth en suite compartments. Ticket office fare around 6,000 roubles (Ј125) in spalny vagon (1st class 2-berth) or 3,000 roubles (Ј62) in kupй (2nd class 4-berth). It’s now been joined by a couple of other quality ‘Firmeny’ trains running to very similar timings, train 3/4 Ekspress and train 5/6 Nicholaevsky Express. There are many other less-prestigious overnight trains on the Moscow-St Petersburg route, too.
Moscow to St Petersburg option 1: By Sapsan high-speed train in 3 hours 55 minutes.
All baggage is X-rayed before you board a Sapsan, so arrive in good time for your train.
Buy tickets online from Real Russia.
You can buy tickets online in plain English from www.trains.realrussia.co.uk, with good after-sales service if you need it. This system is good for checking Russian train times, too, even if you plan to buy tickets at the ticket office. You can use it to buy Russian train tickets wherever you live in the world. If you live in the UK they can also sort your Russian visa & visa support.
|
Which tickets can Real Russia sell? They sell tickets for any mainline train journey within Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, Belarus, Lithuania, Kazakhstan and the other ex-Soviet states, also for international journeys to or from those countries, for example Moscow to Berlin or St Petersburg to Helsinki, and also for Russian sleeping-car services within Europe, for example Paris-Moscow, Paris-Berlin or Budapest-Sofia.
Reservations officially open 60 days before departure, but Real Russia allow you to request tickets up to 180 days ahead and they will contact you for payment when the price is confirmed.
Can anyone buy tickets using this system? Yes, you can buy tickets online with a credit card whether you live in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, or wherever.
How are tickets delivered? If your train is e-ticketable, an e-ticket will be emailed to you. If it’s not, tickets can be collected free of charge at Real Russia’s offices in Moscow or St Petersburg or they can be sent to any address worldwide. Postage to a UK or EU address costs around Ј12-Ј15.
Who run this service? Is it reliable? This service is provided by Real Russia, a reputable joint UK-Russian company which has got very good reports from users. Real Russia can also sort out your Russian visa & if necessary, Belarusian visa.
Booking tips: Look for a train marked Firm if there is one. Firmeny trains are the best ‘quality’ trains, with modern coaches and good on-board service. ‘TBC’ means the system cannot provide a price for that particular train automatically, but they’ll contact you with a cost by phone or email. Note that even babies & infants need to have a ticket booked for them, even though they travel for free.
Is it cheaper to buy at the ticket office? Real Russia charge the normal Russian Railways fare plus a mark-up to cover their costs (all agencies charge a mark-up). There’s a 2.5% charge for credit card payments, but you can easily avoid this by calling their UK office to pay by debit card when your tickets are confirmed. The fares shown include the mark-up, but not the credit card charge. By all means buy tickets at the ticket office if you’re flexible, but Russian trains can get fully-booked so it’s good to pre-book if you want a specific date and train. Russian Railways offer online booking but it’s only in Russian, so it can be worth the extra to quickly and simply organise your Russian rail tickets in English.
Buy tickets online at rzd.ru.
You can also now buy Russian train tickets direct from Russian Railways at www.rzd.ru which now has an English version. It’s a bit fiddly and not as user-friendly as Real Russia, but there are no fees and it does work if you persevere. It accepts some overseas credit cards, though not all. It may currently reject US-issued cards, though perhaps not all.
How to buy tickets at the station.
The cheapest place to buy Russian train tickets is at the station reservation office. Here are some tips:
Remember to take your passport, even if you only want a Russian domestic train ticket.
Russian train reservations open 60 days before departure, you can’t buy tickets before reservations open.
Russian Railways have an efficient computerised reservation system, and you can book any journey within or out of Russia at the reservation office at any Russian railway station.
To avoid language problems if you don’t speak Russian, it’s a good idea to learn the Russian alphabet so you can write down the journey and date you want to show to the ticket office staff. When writing dates, use roman numerals for the month, or example for ‘3 June 2008’ write ‘3 VI 2008’.
People often ask me, «If I go to the ticket office the day before I want to travel, will I find tickets available?». Well, if you know the Russian alphabet, you can check how many berths in each class are still available on any train on any date within the next 60 days using the Russian Railways website, www.rzd.ru. So you could see how many berths are left today on trains from (say) Moscow to St Petersburg tomorrow or the day after. This will give you a pretty good idea of how many places are likely to be available if you ask at the station a day or two before departure.
Many main stations have a ‘servis tsentr’ (service centre) where you pay a small fee (about 100 rubles) to book your ticket in a relaxed air-conditioned environment. The extra 100 rubles can be well worth it!
Other agencies who can arrange Russian train tickets.
You can also arrange train travel in Russia through several Russian agencies, including:
What are the trains like?
The three types of train.
There are three main categories of long-distance train in Russia:
Firmeny: These are high-quality trains, often with a name such as Krasnaya Strela (Red Arrow) or Rossiya. They have the most modern carriages, often painted in that train’s own special colour scheme, usually air-conditioned and with good on-board service. These are easily the best trains to go for, although the fare is a little higher than for other trains. They usually have low-numbered train numbers such as ‘1’, ‘8’ or ’10’, and they usually have a restaurant car serving drinks, snacks and affordable complete meals. They generally have spalny vagon 2-bed sleepers, kupй 4-bed sleepers and sometimes but not always platskartny open-plan dormitory sleepers. See below for a description of classes.
Skory: Express train. These usually have spalny vagon 2-berth sleepers, kupй 4-berth sleepers and platskartny sleepers, and many have a restaurant car. They normally have one or two-digit train numbers, for example ’11’ or ’26’. Cheaper than travelling on a Firmeny train.
Passazhirsky: Ordinary passenger train, often relatively slow and usually using older carriages. They typically have 3-digit train numbers, for example ‘904’. They usually have kupй 4-berth sleepers and platskartny, but not usually spalny vagon 2-berth sleepers. The cheapest option, but not recommended!
The three classes of accommodation.
Long-distance trains within Russia and the former Soviet republics have three main classes, all designed for both daytime and overnight travel given the distances covered by many trains:
Spalny Vagon (1st class)
2-berth compartments, 9 compartments per coach, with both beds at the lower level either side of the compartment. Washrooms and toilets are at the end of the corridor. It’s twice the price of travelling kupй, although you get twice the space per passenger, so it’s recommended for those who want extra privacy and space and who can afford it. SV is also known as ‘myagky’ or ‘lyux’. On the best ‘firmeny’ trains you can often buy tickets with or without ‘service’, meaning with or without bedding and meals included.
In addition to the normal 2-berth sleepers, the best Moscow-St Petersburg overnight train (the ‘Krasnaya Strela or ‘Red Arrow’) also has two deluxe sleeping-cars with 1- & 2-bed compartments with private toilet and shower and TV / DVD entertainment system. These deluxe sleepers were introduced in 2004.
4-berth compartments, 9 compartments per coach. Washrooms and toilets are at the end of the corridor. Kupй is recommended as the class chosen by most visitors to Russia. On the best ‘firmeny’ trains you can often buy kupй tickets with or without ‘service’, meaning with or without bedding and meals included.
Open-plan dormitory cars. There are 54 bunks per coach, arranged in bays of 4 on one side of the aisle and bays of 2 along the coach wall on the other side of the aisle. Recommended for the most budget-conscious and adventurous visitors.
Strictly-speaking, you’ll also find basic seats on some long distance trains and on local or suburban trains, known as ‘Obshchi’, but this isn’t intended for long-distance travel and is not recommended. There are now a number of daytime expresses between cities such as Moscow and St Petersburg, and these have comfortable airline-style seating in ordinary and ‘business’ classes rather than the sleeper-based classes described above.
Life on board Russian trains.
Security. Are Russian trains safe for families or single women?

European Rail Timetable & maps
The European Rail Timetable (formerly the Thomas Cook European Timetable) has train & ferry times for every country in Europe plus currency & climate information. It is essential for regular European train travellers and an inspiration for armchair travellers. Published since 1873, it had just celebrated 140 years of publication when Thomas Cook decided to pull the plug on their entire publishing department, but the dedicated ex-Thomas Cook team set up a private venture and resumed publication of the famous European Rail Timetable in March 2014. You can buy it online at www.amazon.co.uk (UK addresses) or www.europeanrailtimetable.eu (shipping worldwide). More information on what the European Rail Timetable contains.
Rail Map Europe is the map I recommend, covering all of Europe from Portugal in the west to Moscow & Istanbul in the east, Finland in the north to Sicily & Athens in the south. Scenic routes & high-speed lines are highlighted. See an extract from the map. Buy online at www.europeanrailtimetable.eu (shipping worldwide) or for Ј9.67 at www.amazon.co.uk (UK addresses).
Recommended guidebooks
You should take a good guidebook, and a phrasebook can help too. I think the Lonely Planets and Rough Guides are about the best there are for the independent traveller, and you will not regret buying one of these!
Click the images to buy the book from Amazon.co.uk.
Hotels in Moscow & Russia
My favourite hotel search site: www.booking.com
Tip: It can pay to compare prices across multiple hotel sites: HotelsCombined.com is a price comparison site which compares hotel prices on Booking.com, Hotels.com, Expedia, Accor, Agoda and many others. Though if there’s not much in it, I prefer keeping all my bookings together in one place at www.booking.com.
Other hotel sites worth trying.
www.tripadvisor.com is the place to find independent travellers’ reviews of all the main hotels.
www.booking.com is my own preferred hotel booking system (Hotels Combined being a search/comparison system). It has a simple interface, a good selection in most countries worldwide, useful online customer reviews of each hotel, and decent prices, usually shown inclusive of unavoidable extras such as taxes (a pet hate of mine is systems that show one price, then charge you another!).
Backpacker hostels.
www.hostelworld.com: If you’re on a tight budget, don’t forget about backpacker hostels. Hostelworld offers online booking of cheap private rooms or dorm beds in backpacker hostels in most cities at rock-bottom prices.
Travel insurance & VPN
Always take out travel insurance.
You should take out travel insurance with at least Ј1m or preferably Ј5m medical cover from a reliable insurer. It should cover trip cancellation and loss of cash & belongings up to a reasonable limit. These days, check you’re covered for covid-19-related issues, and use an insurer whose cover isn’t invalidated by well-meant but excessive Foreign Office travel advice against non-essential travel. An annual policy is usually cheapest even for just 2 or 3 trips a year, I use an annual policy myself. Don’t expect travel insurance to bail you out of every missed connection, see the advice on missed connections here. Here are some suggested insurers, I get a little commission if you buy through these links, feedback always welcome.
www.staysure.co.uk offers enhanced Covid-19 protection & covers you even if the FCDO advises against non-essential travel.
If you have a pre-existing medical condition or are over 65, see www.JustTravelCover.com.
You can use www.confused.com to compare prices & policy features across major insurance companies.
If you live in the USA try Travel Guard USA.
Get a Curve card to save on foreign transaction fees.
Banks often give a poor exchange rate, then charge a currency conversion fee as well. A Curve MasterCard means no foreign transaction fees and gives you the mid-market exchange rate, at least up to a certain limit, Ј500 per month as I write this. The balance goes straight onto one of your existing debit or credit cards. And you can get a Curve card for free.

Behind Enemy Lines, Ukrainians Tell Russians ‘You Are Never Safe’
Clandestine resistance cells are spotting targets, sabotaging rail lines and killing those deemed collaborators as they seek to unnerve Russian forces.

ZAPORIZHZHIA, Ukraine — They sneak down darkened alleys to set explosives. They identify Russian targets for Ukrainian artillery and long-range rockets provided by the United States. They blow up rail lines and assassinate officials they consider collaborators with the Russians.
Slipping back and forth across the front lines, the guerrilla fighters are known in Ukraine as partisans, and in recent weeks they have taken an ever more prominent role in the war, rattling Russian forces by helping deliver humiliating blows in occupied areas they thought were safe.
Increasingly, Ukraine is taking the fight against Russian forces into Russian-controlled areas, whether with elite military units, like the one credited on Tuesday with a huge explosion at a Russian ammunition depot in the occupied Crimean Peninsula, or an underground network of the guerrillas.
Last week, Ukrainian officials said, the partisans had a hand in a successful strike on a Russian air base, also in Crimea, which Moscow annexed eight years ago. It destroyed eight fighter jets.
“The goal is to show the occupiers that they are not at home, that they should not settle in, that they should not sleep comfortably,” said one guerrilla fighter, who spoke on condition that, for security reasons, he only be identified by his code name, Svarog, after a pagan Slavic god of fire.
In recent days the Ukrainian military made Svarog and several other of the operatives available for interviews in person or online, hoping to highlight the partisans’ widening threat to Russian forces and signal to Western donors that Ukraine is successfully rallying local resources in the war, now nearly six months old. A senior Ukrainian military official familiar with the program also described the workings of the resistance.
Their accounts of attacks could not be verified completely but aligned with reports in the Ukrainian media and with descriptions from Ukrainians who had recently fled Russian-occupied areas.
Svarog and I met over lemonade and cheese pastries at a Georgian restaurant in Zaporizhzhia, a city under Ukrainian control about 65 miles north of the occupied town of Melitopol.
He spoke with intimate knowledge of partisan activities, providing a rare glimpse into one of the most hidden aspects of the war.
The State of the War
The Ukrainian military began training partisans in the months before the invasion, as Russia massed troops near the borders. The effort has paid off in recent weeks as Ukrainian forces are pressing a counteroffensive in the south, although Russian forces, with far greater advantages in heavy weapons, still surround Ukraine from the east and north.
Ukrainian officials warned on Tuesday of the threat of a potential Russian attack from Belarus, noting a buildup of missile systems there, and said Russian forces were expending tens of thousands of rounds a day as they shelled hundreds of defensive positions in eastern and southern Ukraine.
With little movement of the front lines, insurgent activity is now intensifying, as the fighters strike stealthily in environs they know intimately, using car bombs, booby traps and targeted killings with pistols — and then blending into the local population.
Before the war, Svarog occasionally joined weekend training with Right Sector and National Corps, a branch of the Azov movement, both of which are aligned with paramilitary units in Ukraine. They were just two of dozens of organizations running military training for civilians throughout Ukraine during the eight-year war with Russian-backed separatists.
Svarog said he was among the trainees in these public programs. Behind the scenes, Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces were forming a more structured, and secret, program that included instruction on sabotage, explosives and stashing weapon caches in anticipation of Russia’s attack.
After the invasion, Svarog said, he was directed to a storage shed outside Melitopol, where he found slabs of high explosives, detonators, Kalashnikov rifles, a grenade launcher and two pistols equipped with silencers.
Melitopol, the southern Ukrainian town where Svarog operates, has since emerged as a center of the resistance. He recounted the careful casing of targets, followed by attacks.
By Saturday, partisans had struck with explosives seven days in a row, according to the town’s exiled mayor, Ivan Fedorov, who boasted of the achievement to Ukrainian media as part of the more public embrace of partisan operations by officials.
The attacks have been going on for several months. This spring, Svarog said, he and several members of the cell in Melitopol sneaked through the town at night to booby-trap a car in the parking lot of a Russian-controlled police station.
Carrying wire cutters, tape and fishing line, the fighters moved through courtyards and back alleys to avoid Russian checkpoints.
What we consider before using anonymous sources. How do the sources know the information? What’s their motivation for telling us? Have they proved reliable in the past? Can we corroborate the information? Even with these questions satisfied, The Times uses anonymous sources as a last resort. The reporter and at least one editor know the identity of the source.
They first cut an electrical wire, blacking out a streetlight, then dashed quickly into the darkness where they planted a bomb, wrapped in tape with the sticky side facing outward, into a wheel well. The fishing line was taped both to the inside of the wheel and to a detonator, rigging the bomb to explode when the wheel turned.

A: To create a new IRCTC login ID, visit the official home page of the IRCTC. Right below the login box, there is an option to sign up. When you click on it, a registration box will open. Now enter your user ID, password, security question, and preferred language, followed by personal information like name, gender, Aadhaar card number, PAN card number and your residential address. After you enter all the information, click on submit. For the verification of your IRCTC login account, a link will be sent to your registered email ID. Your registration process is now complete, and you are ready to use your IRCTC account. Watch this video to see all the steps described above
A: Making your login ID is a one-time registration process. Once you have registered, you cannot change your username or the login credentials for a given email address.
A: For IRCTC login, open the ixigo app and just log in using your registered username. Next, select the departure and arrival destinations, date of travel, the class you want to travel in, and your traveller details. Then, click on ‘Pay Now’ to complete the payment. Once it is successful, the app will ask you to enter your password. Do this, and make your booking.
A: As per IRCTC, maximum number of bookings allowed per month = 12 and maximum number of passengers booked per ticket = 6. So, a maximum of 36 passengers can be booked in a month from IRCTC ID.
A: You can find your login details on the IRCTC welcome message sent to your registered email. To locate this mail, use search terms like ‘IRCTC’ or ‘ticketadmin@irctc.co.in’ in your inbox. If you don’t have this mail and wish to reset your password, go to irctc website, then Login and then Forgot Password. Submit the required details and enter the OTP received via email/SMS to be led to a new page. Enter your new password here, and click on ‘Update Password’ to complete the process. Your username can be recovered similarly, by going to irctc.co.in, then Login and then Forgot User ID. The existing user ID will be sent to your registered email. Watch this video to follow all the steps described above
A: You can book railway tickets on mobile by using the ixigo trains app, or by visiting websites. Simply choose your route, date and preferred seat; update passenger details (including the IRCTC user ID); and make the payment to book your ticket. During COVID-19, you must also share your destination address, for contact tracing as per government regulations.
A: If a railway booking is confirmed, it can be cancelled up to 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train. As per IRCTC website, tickets booked online cannot be cancelled after the chart is prepared.
A: Children under 5 years of age are not charged for a train journey. Children between 5 to 12 years of age are charged fully if a berth is sought for the child separately. However, if a berth/seat is not required for a child between 5 to 12 years of age, then only half of the adult fare will be applicable.
A: TDR refers to the ticket deposit receipt. Passengers who have a ticket but have not travelled, and want to apply for a refund, can file for a TDR. The IRCTC provides facilities to file TDR online. If the train chart is not prepared, users can cancel their ticket online. It is only after a chart is ready that a TDR needs to be filed for a refund. Some different scenarios where an IRCTC TDR can be filed are:
•AC failure in train coaches.
•No room for passenger after chart preparation.
•Change In Reservation Status from confirmed to Waitlisted/Part Waitlisted/RAC after chart preparation.
•Fare difference if the passenger travelled in a lower class.
•Fare difference in case a proper coach is not attached.
•Passenger could not cancel because the chart was prepared at the originating station or a previous remote location.
•Partially Confirmed/Waitlisted tickets, but all passengers did not travel.
•Partially Confirmed/Waitlisted tickets and waitlisted passengers did not travel.
•Passengers partially travelled, before the journey was terminated short of destination.
•Passenger did not travel as reservation was provided in a lower class.
•Passenger did not travel due to RAC ticket after chart preparation.
•Train being diverted, so it cannot touch the boarding station.
•Train being diverted, so it cannot touch the destination station.
•Train being late by more than 3 hours and the passengers not travelling on it.
•Train missed as connecting train was late.
•Train terminated short of destination.
•Being wrongly charged by the TTE.
A: In light of COVID-19, the IRCTC has issued some new rules and safety precautions for passengers travelling on trains. These rules state that:
• You can get your favourite food at your train seat via e-Catering available at selected train station.
• Face masks and face covers are mandatory for all passengers at entry and exit during travel.
• All passengers are requested to follow the covid guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and concerned State/UTs on the subject from time to time.
User Stories
User stories are part of an agile approach that helps shift the focus from writing about requirements to talking about them. All agile user stories include a written sentence or two and, more importantly, a series of conversations about the desired functionality.

What is a user story?
A user story is a short, simple description of a feature told from the perspective of the person who desires the new capability, usually a user or customer of the system. User stories typically follow a simple template:
User stories are often written on index cards or sticky notes, stored in a shoe box, and arranged on walls or tables to facilitate planning and discussion. As such, they strongly shift the focus from writing about features to discussing them. In fact, these discussions are more important than whatever text is written.
200 User Stories Examples
Can you show some user story examples?
One of the benefits of agile user stories is that they can be written at varying levels of detail. We can write a user story to cover large amounts of functionality. These large user stories are generally known as epics. Here is an epic agile user story example from a desktop backup product:
Because an epic is generally too large for an agile team to complete in one iteration, it is split into multiple smaller user stories before it is worked on. The epic above could be split into dozens (or possibly hundreds), including these two:
How is detail added to user stories?
Detail can be added to user stories in two ways:
When a relatively large story is split into multiple, smaller agile user stories, it is natural to assume that detail has been added. After all, more has been written.
The conditions of satisfaction is simply a high-level acceptance test that will be true after the agile user story is complete. Consider the following as another agile user story example:
As a vice president of marketing, I want to select a holiday season to be used when reviewing the performance of past advertising campaigns so that I can identify profitable ones.
Detail could be added to that user story example by adding the following conditions of satisfaction:
200 User Stories Examples
Who writes user stories?
Anyone can write user stories. It’s the product owner’s responsibility to make sure a product backlog of agile user stories exists, but that doesn’t mean that the product owner is the one who writes them. Over the course of a good agile project, you should expect to have user story examples written by each team member.
Also, note that who writes a user story is far less important than who is involved in the discussions of it.
When are user stories written?
User stories are written throughout the agile project. Usually a story-writing workshop is held near the start of the agile project. Everyone on the team participates with the goal of creating a product backlog that fully describes the functionality to be added over the course of the project or a three- to six-month release cycle within it.
Some of these agile user stories will undoubtedly be epics. Epics will later be decomposed into smaller stories that fit more readily into a single iteration. Additionally, new stories can be written and added to the product backlog at any time and by anyone.
Do user stories replace a requirements document?
Agile projects, especially Scrum ones, use a product backlog, which is a prioritized list of the functionality to be developed in a product or service. Although product backlog items can be whatever the team desires, user stories have emerged as the best and most popular form of product backlog items.
While a product backlog can be thought of as a replacement for the requirements document of a traditional project, it is important to remember that the written part of an agile user story (“As a user, I want …”) is incomplete until the discussions about that story occur.
It’s often best to think of the written part as a pointer to the real requirement. User stories could point to a diagram depicting a workflow, a spreadsheet showing how to perform a calculation, or any other artifact the product owner or team desires.

Germany sends jets to Indo-Pacific
The German Air Force has deployed a fleet for its first-ever mission in the Indo-Pacific, where the aircraft will first stop in Singapore before holding several days of exercises with Australian counterparts.
The Luftwaffe deployed six Eurofighter jets, four A400M multirole aircraft, and three A330 tanker transport craft from Neuburg Air Base on Monday, hoping to make the 6,200-mile (10,000km) journey to Singapore in just 24 hours with only a single brief stop in Abu Dhabi for a pilot change.
“We want to demonstrate that we can be in Asia within a day,” said Lieutenant General Ingo Gerhartz, the air service’s chief of staff, while its official Twitter account dubbed it a 24 hour “Luftwaffe challenge.”
“The Indo-Pacific is of great importance to Germany. We share the same values with many partners in this region,” Gerhartz added.
Symbolically bearing the flags of Germany, Singapore, Australia, South Korea, and Japan, the Eurofighters and other craft will then head to Darwin, Australia to participate in Canberra’s biennial ‘Pitch Black’ exercise running from August 19 to September 9.
Guten Tag 👋 The German Air Force, known as the ‘Luftwaffe’, will participate in Exercise #PitchBlack22 for the first time! Travelling to Australia as part of #RapidPacific2022, @Team_Luftwaffe will arrive with over 200 personnel and 10 aircraft. 💪🇩🇪➡️ https://t.co/saFJuftsiSpic.twitter.com/uxqc7AvqPG
During that time, the fighters will conduct air-to-air drills, practice ground attacks, and fly in larger formations with allied aircraft, the air force said.
After the conclusion of ‘Pitch Black,’ the German warplanes will take part in the ‘Kakadu’ exercise alongside the Royal Australian Navy between September 12 and 26, where they will train defending naval assets.
The Luftwaffe’s busy training schedule does not end there, however, as it is also expected to drill with Singapore’s air force, as well as sending detachments for visits to South Korea and Japan.
While Gerhartz noted that the drills with Canberra would offer a chance to learn more about the US-made F-35 fighter jet, which Berlin recently agreed to acquire from Washington, a Luftwaffe spokesperson told Defense News that there are no plans to discuss the F-35 or interoperability with Tokyo or Seoul.
Much like the US and other Western allies, Germany maintains that it has vital interests in the Indo-Pacific, warning that the impairment of sea lanes in the region could have “serious consequences” for its prosperity. Though its military presence there is nowhere near the level of Washington, which routinely sends warships through disputed waters in the South China Sea and elsewhere in the region, Berlin has also cited nuclear powers in the Indo-Pacific, such as China, India, and Pakistan, as potential security risks.
