The Leading Hotels of the World

Leading Hotels of the World, Ltd. ( LHW) is a hospitality consortium owned by Hotel Representative, A.G. with more than 430 hotels and resorts in over 80 countries.

LHW is headquartered in New York City, US and maintains offices in 25 cities worldwide.

History

The company was established in 1928 under the name «Luxury Hotels of Europe and Egypt». It initially had 38 member hotels, including Hotel Negresco in Nice, the Mena House in Cairo and King David Hotel in Jerusalem.

Leading Hotels of the World started as a reservation service for independent hotels, and later supported sales and marketing, advertising and public relations, financial services, quality control, and hotel inspections for its member properties. The company does not own hotels; most member hotels are independent, though some are part of chains.

As of 2011 Andrea Kracht, proprietor of Baur au Lac in Zurich, Switzerland, was the chairman of Hotel Representative, A.G., and Theodore (Ted) Teng was the president and chief executive officer. The company had 24 offices around the world.

The World (archipelago)

The World or The World Islands (Arabic: Juzur al-Alam) is an artificial archipelago of various small islands constructed in the rough shape of a world map, located in the waters of the Persian Gulf, 4.0 kilometres (2.5 mi) off the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The World islands are composed mainly of sand dredged from Dubai’s shallow coastal waters, and are one of several artificial island developments in Dubai. The World’s developer is Nakheel Properties, and the project was originally conceived by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai.

World

World is a common name for the whole of human civilization, specifically human experience, history, or the human condition in general, worldwide, i.e. anywhere on Earth or pertaining to anywhere on Earth.

In a theological context, world usually refers to the material or the profane sphere, as opposed to the celestial, spiritual, transcendent or sacred. The «end of the world» refers to scenarios of the final end of human history, often in religious contexts.

World history is commonly understood as spanning the major geopolitical developments of about five millennia, from the first civilizations to the present.

World population is the sum of all human populations at any time; similarly, world economy is the sum of the economies of all societies (all countries), especially in the context of globalization. Terms like world championship, gross world product, world flags etc. also imply the sum or combination of all current-day sovereign states.

The World (film)

The World (Chinese : 世界 ; pinyin : Shìjiè ) is a 2004 Chinese film written and directed by Jia Zhangke. Starring Jia’s muse, Zhao Tao, as well as Chen Taisheng, The World was filmed on and around an actual theme park located in Beijing, Beijing World Park, which recreates world landmarks at reduced scales for Chinese tourists. The World was Jia’s first to gain official approval from the Chinese government. Additionally, it was the first of his films to take place outside of his home province of Shanxi.

The World was a joint-production by Jia Zhangke’s own Xstream Pictures, Japan’s Office Kitano, and France’s Lumen Films. It received additional financial support from the Shanghai Film Studio and several Japanese corporations including Bandai Visual and Tokyo FM, among others.

The film premiered in competition at the 2004 Venice Film Festival on September 4, 2004, but failed to win the coveted Golden Lion, the festival’s top award, which ultimately went to Mike Leigh’s drama Vera Drake, but which Jia would win two years later with Still Life. The World also premiered in 2004 at the New York Film Festival and would go on to receive a limited release in New York City the following year on July 1, 2005.

Да, мы, The Leading Hotels of the World, появились на свет в 1928 году, когда группа владельцев роскошных европейских отелей решила привлечь к себе заграничную публику. Если вы смотрели сериал «Аббатство Даунтон», то можете себе представить обстановку в этих отелях. С момента создания LHW число наших инвесторов выросло, но многие из тех, кто стоял у истоков, до сих пор с нами. Шли годы, мы начали расширять сферу своего влияния, открывали офисы по всему миру и в итоге пришли в Россию. 17 лет назад мы открыли здесь свой первый офис.

Я наблюдаю взлеты и падения на вашем рынке, я вижу, какие есть проблемы и преимущества. Несмотря на то, что прошло уже почти 20 лет, стадия активного развития отрасли в России так и не закончилась. Мы продолжаем наблюдать бурный рост. То, что за границей происходило на протяжении десятилетий, в вашей стране развивается во много раз быстрее. И сейчас наблюдается большой интерес к отелям нашего уровня — в luxury-сегменте. Наиболее важным периодом я бы назвал последние два года. Наши прибыли выросли практически на треть.

— Сколько отелей в настоящее время входит в консорциум LHW и где они расположены?

У нас 410 отелей по всему миру, больше половины из них находится в Европе. Это обусловлено тем, что традиция отельного бизнеса в Старом Свете изначально больше подходит к нашему стилю ведения дел. В Европе много несетевых «независимых» отелей — и это основная клиентура, ее сердцевина, можно сказать.

Владельцы отелей высокого уровня готовы очень много в них вкладывать. Отель для них дело всей жизни, зачастую являющееся семейным бизнесом для многих поколений. Логично, что таких локаций больше в Европе с ее многовековой историей. Однако в последнее время аналогичные отели появляются и в Америке, и в Азии.

Новые отели стремятся не столько к европейскому формату, сколько к описанной мною концепции. Но для ее создания, для отлаживания всех процессов им нужен менеджмент высокого класса. Вот тут мы и выходим на сцену. Этот алгоритм в гостиничном бизнесе стал трендом.

— В чем основное отличие LHW от других гостиничных брендов? Что такое философия LHW?

За 90 лет у нас не могло не появиться своей философии. Она заключается в том, чтобы не разрушать, а созидать прекрасные истории отелей, помогать им сохранить лицо, неповторимый индивидуальный облик. И хочу отметить, что с сетевыми цепочками мы, определенно, не враги.

Во-первых, сфера гостиничного бизнеса не такая большая, как вы можете подумать, мы все друг друга знаем, и ссориться нам невыгодно. Я уходил из этой области на несколько лет, а когда вернулся, многих старых знакомых застал на тех же местах.

Во-вторых, у нас с сетевыми отелями очень разные клиенты. Не лучше и не хуже — просто разные, с другими целями.

Давайте я опишу нашего клиента, чтобы легче было понять. Итак, кто выберет отель, с которым работаем мы? Ведь отель «штучный», нестандартный, он является интересным местом сам по себе… Я бы сказал, что это будет человек с репутацией любознательного путешественника. Для него отдых — это процесс получения новых знаний и впечатлений.

Многие из наших отелей в далеком прошлом были замками, дворцами. Разумеется, эти здания обладают богатейшей историей, как и их окрестности. В них останавливались короли, политики и прочие известные личности. Останавливаясь в подобном отеле, человек, можно сказать, сам становится частью этого увлекательного прошлого, и мы всегда готовы поделиться историями с нашими гостями.

К примеру, парижский «Ритц» тесно связан с биографией Коко Шанель — она жила там 37 лет. В отеле есть потрясающая коллекция ее фотографий.

— Каковы критерии для тех, кто хочет стать частью LHW?

У нас очень высокие требования к потенциальным компаньонам. Список состоит из 800 критериев, допустимый минимум соответствия — 85 процентов. Но на самом деле важнее всех цифр — ощущение. Мне сложно описать это словами. Что ты чувствуешь, заходя в холл отеля? Уникально ли это место?

Лично для меня сразу при входе в отель важнее всего два момента: во-первых, атмосфера гостеприимства, а во- вторых, то самое чувство, когда ты проделал долгий путь, наконец добрался до его финальной точки — и оказался в «своем» месте.

Обычно владельцы отелей подают заявку на сотрудничество, и сначала к ним приезжает один из наших специалистов, чтобы составить общую картину — приглядеться, прочувствовать место. Если специалист видит потенциал, то разбираться в деталях (вспомните 800 пунктов!) приезжают уже другие люди. Хочу отметить, что если отель нам однозначно интересен, но у него есть некие проблемы, мы готовы к диалогу, готовы помогать и взаимодействовать.

Мы без проблем приезжаем в отели, которые еще только готовятся к открытию или, наоборот, закрыты на ремонт. Владелец может договориться о сотрудничестве хоть за два года до старта. Тогда мы работаем над подготовкой вместе, а после открытия инспектор в течение года наблюдает за работой отеля, чтобы были исполнены те самые 85% договоренностей. Мы вообще больше ориентируемся на качество, чем на количество и скорость. Перед нами нет задачи расширить ассоциацию на тысячу отелей за пять лет.

— Насколько я знаю, вы обновили свою программу Leaders Club. Что ждет новых клиентов?

Для постоянных клиентов Leading Hotels действует двухуровневая программа лояльности. В конце сентября мы представили нашим гостям ее обновленную версию, которую создали на основе отзывов наиболее лояльных членов клуба Leaders Club.

Программа сохранила те преимущества, которые наши гости ценят больше всего, среди них возможность повышения категории номера при заезде в отель, ежедневный континентальный завтрак для двоих, ранний заезд и поздний выезд, бесплатный wi-fi.

Кроме того, мы дополнили программу Leaders Club новыми важными для наших гостей привилегиями: теперь за каждое бронирование проживания членам клуба будут начисляться баллы, которые впоследствии могут быть потрачены на проживание в отелях ассоциации. А в зависимости от статуса членства — Club или Sterling — клиенты могут еще до момента заселения в отель подтвердить повышение категории номера.

Также надо помнить о том, что зачастую наши клиенты — люди, что называется, высокого полета. Они привыкли к определенному отношению, и мы даем им это внимание, но не в смысле лести и низкопоклонничества, а в смысле искреннего интереса к их жизни. Такая политика действует везде, в том числе и в наших отелях в России. Мы создаем базы данных. Мы помним, когда у клиента день рождения, стараемся следить за важными событиями в его жизни и всегда предлагаем дополнительные услуги, если помимо отдыха в отеле нужно организовать какой-либо праздник — свадьбу или юбилей. Если клиент хочет сделать сюрприз друзьям, жене или детям, мы всегда приходим на помощь и вместе придумываем нечто уникальное.

А еще мы стремимся, чтобы наше сотрудничество не ограничивалось рамками отеля. — Пожалуйста, расскажите подробнее о программе DestinationExperience и ее перспективах для российских клиентов.

Программа Destination Experience, или «Опыт путешественника», — это обширная и кропотливая работа наших сотрудников по составлению гидов для клиентов по интересным местам, которые находятся рядом с отелями. Уникальность этой программы в том, что всю информацию мы берем не из книг по истории, не из статей в интернете и не из мишленовских рейтингов, а из опыта и знаний живых людей.

Мы общаемся с местными жителями, они рассказывают нам о том, какие места на своей малой родине они считают самыми интересными, в какие рестораны ходят, как развлекаются. Мы даже фотографии для наших guide’s book берем у этих людей. Только живое общение, только знания, проверенные жизнью. Ведь клиенты наших отелей — люди одновременно и любознательные, жадные до новых впечатлений, и немало повидавшие. В наших гидах вы найдете не только перечень интересных мест — в них есть все инструкции, как до этих мест добраться, приведены различные детали.

Также, если речь идет о чем-то труднодоступном или экстремальном, сотрудники отеля всегда готовы организовать поддержку. Но замечу, что далеко не все места в наших гидах обязательно удаленные или элитарные. Зачастую это местечки, куда совсем несложно и недорого добраться, просто о них мало кто знает, потому что это местная фишка. Подобные гиды часто помогают заново раскрыть даже те места, про которые, казалось бы, написано и рассказано все, что только можно: тот же Рим или Париж глазами местных выглядит совсем иначе, чем глазами туристов, и каждый район играет новыми красками.

А затем наше взаимодействие с клиентом выходит на следующий уровень: мы просим гостей делиться историями из своих путешествий и тоже публикуем их в своих гидах. Причем в гиде по одной стране может быть напечатан рассказ клиента о путешествии в совсем другую — этим мы побуждаем людей путешествовать больше и, разумеется, пользоваться нашими услугами.

Часто мы привлекаем к работе над гидами местных знаменитостей или просим местного фотографа поработать с нами — в общем, делаем все, чтобы раскрыть то или иное место с новой стороны, показать, как его видят люди, которые долго живут здесь, которые любят его.

Мы также разрабатываем интересные групповые сервисы. Сейчас это очень активно развивающаяся часть нашей деятельности, мы постоянно придумываем что-то новое. Вот, например, идея, осуществленная нами в отеле на горнолыжном курорте в Швейцарии. Мы сотрудничаем с частным аэропортом и с автопарком. Когда человек приезжает на место, он встает перед выбором, как же ему подняться на гору, где находится отель: и тут к его услугам потрясающий выбор автомобилей и даже целый вертолет! Разумеется, такой досуг, скорее, для компании, поскольку подъем сразу превращается в небольшое приключение.

Сейчас мы рассматриваем Россию как площадку с большим потенциалом, но все еще на стадии развития. По сравнению с Европой рынок турбизнеса в России — средних объемов, но мы видим массу перспектив, при этом хотим развиваться не только в Москве и Санкт-Петербурге, но и по всей стране. В России много хороших отелей, и мы намерены сотрудничать с ними, в ближайшие два года планируем увеличить свой бюджет здесь как минимум вдвое. И разумеется, Россия представляет нам безграничное поле для экспериментов в туристической деятельности — столько гидов можно составить, столько интересных маршрутов.

— Давайте разовьем тему ваших ожиданий от российского рынка…

В России среди владельцев luxury-отелей много людей, которые, по сути, являются нашими потенциальными идеальными компаньонами. Это люди, которые хотят придерживаться стандартов лучших сетевых отелей высокого класса в своем бизнесе, но при этом хотят, чтобы их заведение было независимым, уникальным. Они стремятся к тому, чтобы их отель стал воплощением понятий «гостеприимство» и «лакшери сервис», чтобы превратился в «место с историей». Им просто нужны опытные менеджеры, которые помогут добиться поставленной цели.

С другой стороны, нужно отметить, что Россия все чаще привлекает внимание богатых клиентов из-за рубежа, которые хотят получить некий уникальный опыт, прочувствовать душу вашей страны и при этом совместить путешествие с привычным для себя уровнем комфорта и обслуживания.

Благодаря интернету человек теперь не обязан брать то, что первым попадается на глаза, — он может посвятить время поиску и обнаружить тот самый «уникальный отель с историей», в котором захочет остановиться. Тут мы ему и пригодимся.

Через десять лет мы отметим свое столетие. Я бы очень хотел, чтобы за это время в России появилось гораздо больше наших отелей, и не только в двух столицах, а по всей территории, потому что вашей стране есть что предложить миру. И конечно, я хочу, чтобы наш бизнес здесь рос и развивался.

Если же говорить о развитии The Leading Hotels of the World в целом, то, во-первых, хочется больше сотрудничать с известными и интересными личностями, которые будут делиться своим уникальным опытом для наших туристических программ. А во-вторых, есть сильное желание полноценно открыть какой-нибудь новый регион. Например, мне лично весьма многообещающей кажется Африка — и в плане отелей, и в плане туристических продуктов.

— Господин Хо, есть ли вопрос, который я Вам еще не задала?

В финале нашего разговора я хотел бы обратиться к владельцам отелей в России. Есть вы хотите создать заведение с уникальным образом, стать независимой «иконой стиля» в этой сфере бизнеса, мы готовы помочь.

Сделать это можно двумя путями: во-первых, мы рады сотрудничать с крупными управляющими компаниями, которые на местах занимаются независимыми отелями luxury-сегмента и, будучи «аборигенами», очень хорошо знают специфику рынка. Так мы действуем, к примеру, в Париже.

The Leading Hotels of the World (LHW) is an exclusive collection of more than 400 luxury hotels and resorts in over 80 countries. LHW does not own hotels; it rather offers a reservation service for independent hotels and supports sales and marketing, advertising and public relations, financial services, quality control, and hotel inspections for its member properties. LHW has several iconic properties in its portfolio, some of them ranking among the best hotels in the world. Here’s a list of my 10 favorite LWH properties in the world.

10. FASANO RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL

Located on Rio de Janeiro’s legendary Ipanema Beach, star designer Philippe Starck’s first hotel in Brazil pays homage to the golden age of bossa nova. Channeling the heyday of Jobim and Gilberto, the staff wears Ocimar Versolato–inspired uniforms. Distinctly Brazilian materials like Îpe flooring and the enormous piquiá tree stump used for the reception desk are mixed with Grecian marble, 19th-century Argentinean brick and Chinese onyx. The guest rooms have Sergio Rodrigues furnishings and Starckian ear-shaped mirrors and come with private balconies affording sweeping views. Overseeing the Al Mare restaurant is a chef from Florence’s Michelin-starred Enoteca Pinchiorri, while the Renata de Abreu Spa offers La Prairie treatments.

На заре своего становления, The Leading Hotels of The World включала 38 отелей, из которых что ни отель, то легенда. Среди первых членов организации были и знаменитый отель Негреско в Ницце и отель «Царь Давид» в Иерусалиме.

Изначально прирост отелей осуществлялся за счет исключительно Европы. Затем, в 1970-х годах было принято решение расширить влияние сети на весь земной шар. В итоге к концу 1980-х The Leading Hotels of The World уже включали 235 отелей в США, Индии, Австралии и Южной Америке.

Стоит отметить, что компания не предлагает отелям вступить в ряды ее членов. Владельцы сами подают заявки и в The Leading Hotels of The World лишь оценивают то, насколько уровень отеля соответствует стандартам организации.

Сегодня The Leading Hotels of The World – это уже не просто организация. Это бренд, который позволяет отелям позиционировать свой сервис как уникальный, а клиентам получить гарантии высокого уровня обслуживания. На сегодняшний день The Leading Hotels of The World предлагают своим отелям партнерам широкий спектр услуг – от брендирования до разработки стандартов отелей, оптимизации расходов, управления продажами и маркетингом.

В рамках организации The Leading Hotels of The World предлагают программы по стандартам для отелей, среди которых Leading Spas (лучшие спа-отели мира), The Leading Small Hotels of the World (Лучшие малые отели мира) и Leading Green (лучшие зеленые отели).
