As she explores her newfound independence with her roommate Jen (Curda) and falls in love with a girl named Karly (Capri), Abbie is torn between her new life and the guilt of leaving her brother as her family struggles to care for him in her absence.

“We are excited to be working with Connie Cocchia on her directorial debut When Time Got Louder,” said John Bain, Head of Distribution of levelFILM. “We are eager to see Connie’s vision come to life.”

When time got louder

When Abbie (The Hunger Games’ Willow Shields) moves to California to attend school on a full-ride scholarship, she discovers a sense of independence that she had yet to experience back home in Washington with her family. While pursuing her passion for animation, Abbie meets an enticing woman named Karly (Ava Capri of Love, Victor) whom she begins to fall for. Back home however, her parents Tish (Elizabeth Mitchell of Lost and Gia) and Mark (Lochlyn Munro of Riverdale), struggle without Abbie’s help to care for her teenage brother Kayden, who has autism and is non-verbal.

When Abbie returns home for the holidays, it becomes clear that she will have to choose between her newfound independence and her devotion to her brother, the person she loves the most in the world. Featuring extraordinary performances as well as welcoming newcomer Jonathan Simao (who was cast authentically as someone who is on the autism spectrum), When Time Got Louder combines a coming-of-age story with a moving and heart wrenching drama. Director, Writer, and Producer Connie Cocchia drew upon her own experiences growing up with a sibling impacted by autism as the foundation for her powerful and timely first feature.

EXCLUSIVE: Director and writer Connie Cocchia’s debut When Time Got Louder is set for a world premiere at San Francisco’s LGBTQ+ film festival Frameline, and we’ve got a first trailer for you here.

The coming-of-age title, which stars Willow Shields (The Hunger Games) will screen at 12.30pm PT on June 20 in the Castro Theatre. It follows female lead Abbie (Shields) and her family as they navigate the trials and tribulations of raising her brother Kayden (Jonathan Simao), who has autism and is non-verbal, and is inspired by Cocchia’s experience within the autism community.

The Cocchia Pictures film shows how Abbie is torn after she departs for college, leaving her parents, Mark (Lochlyn Munro) and Tish (Elizabeth Mitchell) with her brother while she explores her newfound independence with her roommate Jen (Piper Curda) and falls in love with a girl named Karly (Ava Capri). Watch the trailer above.

“I have always had the desire to create unique and honest content around autism that enlightens our society on the profound effects autism has on an individual, their family, and their community,” said director Cocchia. “Not only is this a coming-of-age film where the main character explores her sexual identity, but it’s also a film that touches on the realities that those with autism and their families navigate on a daily basis.”

“I’m thrilled to be part of a film that cares so deeply about authentic casting, and representation within such a meaningful story. Working with this cast and crew is something I’ll always be very proud of,” added Shields.

Back in May 2020, Deadline revealed Canadian rights to the film had gone to LevelFILM. The Cocchia Pictures team will be taking meetings at Frameline, which has unveiled its full line-up.

Shields is repped by ICM Partners and Authentic Talent and Literary Management, Mitchell by APA and LINK Entertainment; Munro by Northern Exposure Talent Management Group and Alchemy Entertainment; Curda by Hyperion and Curtis Management; Capri by Gersh and More/Medavoy Management; and Simao by RED Management.

Drone – Review

Review: ‘Drone’ is an Exploitative and Haphazard Thriller

The pitch “after a drone bombing in Pakistan, a Pakistani man flies to America to seek vengeance on the operator of the drone and his family with a bomb in his briefcase” is one that is steeped in hot button exploitation, and eye-rolling tackiness. Regardless of what twists and turns of morality are presented therein, that core conceit — the one that perhaps draws one to the film — will stand under this framework of fear-mongering and xenophobia. That’s a steep hill to climb for Canadian filmmaker Jason Bourque with his latest thriller Drone. This isn’t to say it’s not a hill worth climbing, if the filmic structure tackles the subversion of expectations, therefore using the initial pitch as bait to indulge people’s fear of the other before showing them why it is wrong to think this way.

Within the first act, it seems rather clear which side

Poster and trailer for thriller Drone starring Sean Bean

Ahead of its release next month, a poster and trailer have arrived online for the upcoming thriller Drone, which is directed by Jason Bourque and stars Sean Bean, Patrick Sabongui, Joel David Moore, and Mary McCormack; watch it below after the official synopsis…

Drone pilot and family man Neil (Sean Bean) has spent his career conducting deadly, covert missions overseas all from the comfort of his suburban hometown. When an enigmatic, Pakistani businessman (Patrick Sabongui) shows up at his home seeking revenge, Neil must confront the consequences of his actions.

Drone is set for release on May 26th.

Drone Trailer Places Sean Bean In Control Of An Ideological Missile

Sean Bean stars in Drone, the new military thriller from director and co-writer Jason Bourque which sees the actor playing Neil, the blank-faced operator of a deadly drone that drops bombs in the Middle East.

As shown in the newly released trailer, Neil is a private drone contractor who appears callous in his destructive missions overseas, only to return to his family to live out a familiar suburban life with his wife and son. The movie itself is about Neil facing the unexpected consequences of his actions when a Pakistani businessman (played by Patrick Sabongui) shows up on his doorstep with a briefcase and perhaps some bad intentions.

From there, Drone checks off the list of quick cuts and rapid escalation that you’d expect from a psychological thriller, but it’s made even more poignant and uncomfortable by how increasingly relevant this topic has become in lieu of recent
